100 Days of Music - Music Challenge
Day 97 (11/25/23)
Tumblr media
Good afternoon. I bet you can kind of guess what Eddie Van Halen has to do with our theme today.
Share a song or songs that you love that have awesome (in your opinion) guitar solos. It doesn't have to be a rock song, just one with a great guitar solo.
Like a Rock - Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band (I absolutely love the slide guitar solo of this song
youtube
Feels So Good - Chuck Mangione
youtube
Hotel California - Eagles
youtube
Just Let Me Be in Love - Tracy Byrd
youtube
Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton
youtube
Some of mine are very well known guitar solos, and others are just personal to me that I like. What about you?

Reliving my younger years just recently. It occurs to me that this (and many others on my playlist) was released before most of you were born. What really drives it home is that I saw many of these groups live on the tours that promoted the release of these albums...
Anyhoo, Wishbone Ash was an English rock group that, unusually for that time, had two lead guitarists, which made for interesting solo breaks. Argus, released in 1972, won awards for its cover design. Throw Down the Sword segues on from Warrior, the preceding track, and features one of their most memorable solo duels.
The lyrics of this particular track seem especially fitting for a young lady (ykwya) and her beau who have been fighting their own battles of late, and this is for them.

Guitar Solos - Fred Frith
Fred Frith's Guitar Solos is an album of improvised guitar solos for prepared guitar. Prepared guitar involves doing alterations to the guitar to change the sound, and the back cover of Guitar Solos on vinyl you can see what looks like a few alligator clips on some of the strings of the guitar as well as what looks a mirror or something instead of a guitar pick. This is similar to prepared piano which is a process that John Cage had come up with where a variety of things are put inside of a piano to get interesting rhythmic sounds and stuff. This is definitely a bit of a weird album, but I think if you are a fan of things like John Cage's prepared piano or other strange music I would suggest listening to it.

So there’s an article in The Guardian today ranking Steely Dan songs (in honor of 50 years since the release of their debut album) and this came in at number 4 . . . it’s higher up for me, but to each his own. 😏

I’m not anon who sent that but I agree with you that I’m not a fan of guitar solos. Feels like wasted time that could be spent on another song lol. Don’t blame me solo is good enough and short enough to be acceptable 🤙
Yeah, they just don't keep my attention generally - I can appreciate the skill, but I'm generally ready to move on much faster than it finishes! (Pretty much the opposite of your url!!)
