I’m fascinated about Tessa’s dancing past 💕Did she take dance classes when she was very little and before meet Scott?

Is it true that she was invited to participate in a Nutcracker ballet at Canada's national ballet? 😍

Yes she was put in dance classes and gymnastics at about 3 (following after her sister) I’m guessing she did most styles but took a liking to ballet. When she was 9 she attended the CNBS summer school in Toronto which was a month long program. At the end she was offered a permanent place there but at this point she and Scott had been together about 2 years and she chose their partnership over the school. She says in her 9 year old little brain she figured choosing skating allowed her to ‘have it all’ because she could still dance and ballet would really help her skating but going to the school she wouldn’t be able to keep skating- ballet in a very narrow focus and career path and there are very few other activities you can participate in that won’t jeopardise your training. Let alone moving to Toronto and dancing 5 days a week after school there would be no time to skate let alone with Scott 2+ hours away. But a big part of that decision even unconsciously was she really felt a strong connection with him and what they were creating together. She went to the summer school again the following year and they again offered her a place but she said no again (I’m pretty sure when she went this time she didn’t stay for the full month long program because of skating commitments).

So she continued to dance at her studio in London (her teacher was Jennifer Swann who choreographed Carmen as well as some of their exhibitions) I’m assuming until they moved to Kitchener/Waterloo because she said she went on pointe which is usually at around 10/11 yrs. After that they both would’ve been doing ballet classes several times a week as part of their training schedule in K/W and Canton.

Yes she was it was a walk on role in 2014 or 2015, so she wasn’t “dancing” like on pointe with the company dancers or anything but she still got to be onstage with them which is really cool that company remained part of her life.

To bring it full circle their last program Wish You Were Here was choreographed by Guillaume Cote, a principal dancer with CNB and they learned it in the company studios which is just so beautiful to me.. she gave up this place for Scott 20 years ago and now they would learn their last dance together in this place she could’ve had but is probably so glad she didn’t because she had had this incredible journey with Scott instead ❤️

#the company is actually called ‘national ballet of Canada’ but I don’t want to confuse peeps with the acronym ‘NBC’

I go in to eat just before eight and take a seat at a table of six. Escargots are placed in front of us, the aroma of garlic rising thickly like mist off a lake. It takes time for us all to look up from our plates, and to acknowledge we are in this experience, together. Wine helps. I pour out Cote du Rhône into my neighbours’ glasses. We smile. We make comments about the food in French and English and Spanish, because we’re a mix at our table. Chicken coming now. Salty crunchy skin and tagliatelle with a morel sauce. I don’t like dessert but I do like cheese. A wheel comes towards me with every stink of fermentation on it. How long you staying here? I’m asked. Not long, I say, and I surprise myself. I’m going home, I say. In the taxi back to the mas, I feel well fed and well drunk. I look out on to the rugged black landscape, the gold of Les Baux shimmering to my left. I ask the taxi driver to stop and he pulls over to the side of the road. I roll down the window and breathe in the garrigue. I think about home. But, mostly, I think about them. These are my last thoughts, the ones I remember, before I fall asleep. I leave with the last rays of warmth, as October light creeps in and begins to flatten out the days. Marion and Guillaume wave me off in front of the sheds. I feel them watching me as I walk away. At the gate, I turn back for one last look, one last wave. The clouds pull away and the sun bids me farewell. On the train, I doze, wake, doze, and I paint the Provençal landscape in my mind for Dora, one last time. The green complementing the deep blue of the sky, the air fizzing with energy. White stone sheds interrupt the scene, and there beyond the sheds, a glimpse of yellow, shouting. And in the foreground, the quiet shape of two lovers. Always two lovers. Shadowed in memory.

Do you know if there are any other videos of Scott (and Tessa) in dance class other than with Sam? I don’t think I’ve ever seen video of them doing ballet, for example, but I’m not sure how much of that they did towards the end?

i don't know of any - i used to daydream of all the W footage the production team of their reality show filmed of them that never made it into the episodes-- all the skating, probably dance classes, workouts, much more bts - there must be a hundred hours if the camera crews followed them around for entire days over a period of months

during the comeback, there's that video of Tessa and Craig McMorris doing tango with Gigi Cournoyer in a studio in MTL - like VM must have worked with her on tango - we saw a little bit in the Roxanne video, though with Sam, but it would be fascinating to watch them do a full class. there was a snippet of Tessa and Guillaume Cizeron doing a hip hop class in 2016 i think? and those tiny bits of VM with Guillaume Cote off ice and/or doing some of that Wish You Were Here choreo off ice, but that was already the dark days. Max Trankov mentioned being surprised skaters were getting up to take local dance classes on their off time during RTR - i feel like Scott mentioned taking dance class another time, too. i wonder if they miss it all

one of my favorite little exh's of VM's is that Festa on Ice ballet barre program - that's lovely. but yeah, i wish there were more videos of them dancing off ice

Сегодня мы отмечаем важную годовщину: 10 марта 1997 года на телеэкраны вышла первая серия «Баффи», легендарного сериала 90-х о девушке, которая боролась со всякой нечистью в своём городе и пыталась при этом жить нормальной жизнью, как и все остальные.

Джосс Уидон, автор этого сериала, — довольно стрёмный дядька, которого много в чём обвиняли. Об этом важно не забывать, но при этом сам проект, который растянулся на 7 сезонов, — великолепен: вывод жанра научной фантастики на новый уровень, увлекательная драма со стильными диалогами, прекрасный актёрский состав.

Самое главное — сильная и яркая главная героиня. Этот проект чётко доказал, что можно делать длинный сериал с женщиной-героиней и вызывать при этом огромнейший зрительский интерес. Без «Баффи» не было бы множества известных телесериалов 21-го века с женщинами-протагонистками. Баффи Саммерс в исполнении Сары-Мишель Геллар — важный художественный образ и ролевая модель для тех из нас, кто взрослели в конце 90-х и начале 2000-х (сериал показывали в России на федеральных каналах, его можно было достать на видеокассетах).

A Randan, les aînés ont de la bouteille

En Ehpad, les ateliers mots croisés, gym douce, lecture et jardinage ont la cote. Pourtant, à Randan, la Villa Claudine bouscule les codes : les résidents fabriquent eux-mêmes leur breuvage fermenté à base de malt, de houblon, de levure et d’eau.

Au sein de l’Ehpad la Villa Claudine, ne parlez pas « d’après-midi Joe Dassin ou d’atelier mandala », ici, les résidents préfèrent brasser de la bière. Une activité insolite qui réunit une quinzaine de participants.

Pour la deuxième fois dans l’histoire de l’Ehpad, les résidents participent à l’atelier brassage de bière. Et, une chose est sûre, cette activité plaît au plus grand nombre. « C’est une initiative unique en France, ça change totalement des ateliers habituellement mis en place dans les Ehpad », assure Guillaume Fanget, directeur de la Villa Claudine.

Des moulins à café anciens, des bols et du malt : voilà les ingrédients essentiels à la première étape de la préparation de la bière. Outre la fabrication, cette activité permet aux participants un retour en enfance. Le matériel utilisé rappelle de bons souvenirs à certains : « Ils sont vieux comme Hérode ces moulins, les vieilles machines aux vieux machins », sourit Renée, résidente de l’Ehpad la Villa Claudine.

Prendre son malt en patience

Armés de leurs moulins à café, les résidents y versent le malt et commencent à moudre. Un peu d’huile de coude, de la détermination et les résidents se transforment en véritables brasseurs. Très concentrés sur leur tâche, ils sont déterminés à fabriquer la meilleure bière de Randan. Le concassage commence et chacun y va de sa technique. Certains coincent le moulin entre leurs genoux pour le stabiliser, quelques-uns utilisent un rouleau à pâtisserie pour écraser le malt quand d’autres se mettent à deux ou trois pour tourner la manivelle du moulin. « C’est quand même sacrément compliqué, on n’est pas sorties de l’auberge », avoue Renée. Avec Rose et Liliane, elles essaient de se coordonner pour être les plus efficaces possible. « Et tourne, et tourne la manette », chantonne la résidente. « Vous allez vous faire des muscles là », plaisante Caroline Tantot, animatrice à l’Ehpad. La recette d’une bonne bière ? La patience.

Et, lorsque certains résidents ont des difficultés, l’animatrice n’est jamais très loin : « Je veux que tout le monde puisse participer et se sentir intégré à l’atelier. C’est important. » Cette séance singulière permet aussi aux résidents de développer leurs sens. L’odorat, le toucher, et bientôt le goût. « Ça sent les céréales, les champs », affirme un résident, « Oui, mais il y a aussi une autre odeur particulière », lui répond un autre. « Ça sent la bière », tranche son binôme.

Plusieurs semaines de fermentation

Et, lorsque la question sur la dégustation se pose, les réponses sont unanimes : « Évidemment qu’on va goûter la bière, il ne faut pas mourir idiot », plaisante Jean-Louis. « Moi je ne bois jamais d’alcool, cependant, là, ce sera l’occasion », avoue une résidente. Mais, pas d’inquiétude, la bière de la Villa Claudine devrait tourner autour des 4° d’alcool. « Le but ce n’est pas de s’enivrer, sinon on ferait du whisky », blague l’animatrice. Peut-être une idée de futur atelier ?

Une fois tout le malt passé, il faut désormais le transférer dans un grand bocal. À l’aide d’un entonnoir, tour à tour, les résidents y versent le contenu de leur bol. La tâche est simple mais longue. En presque deux heures, ils ont réalisé la première étape de la fabrication de la bière, mais aussi la plus importante. Désormais, il va falloir patienter pendant quelques semaines. Les étapes de cuisson et de fermentation se feront hors atelier.

Bientôt, les résidents se retrouveront à nouveau pour la mise en bouteille et la création d‘étiquettes. Pour le moment, le nom de cette bière made in Randan n’a pas filtré. Une fois le breuvage prêt, les résidents auront enfin l’occasion de le goûter au cours d’un repas. « Un moment convivial et très apprécié de tous », d’après le directeur de l’Ehpad et « la meilleure étape de la fabrication », d’après de nombreux résidents. Au sein de la Villa Claudine, les aînés ont de la bouteille.
