Eochaid of Cyrodiil

Race: Imperial (Dragonborn, Werewolf)

Backstory: Orphan, grew up as a blacksmith apprentice for the legion before becoming one of their soldiers. Got caught while abandonning his position and was arrested for being a deserter.

Main Skils: Heavy Armor, Two Handed, Smithing (legendaryx2). Everything else is 100

Quests/Factions: Main Quest, Dragonborn, Companions, Dawnguard (Hunters) (have completed pretty much the whole game though)

Vel'adonna (take 2)

Race: Dunmer

Backstory: Grew up in Windhelm and really, really hates Ulfric Stormcloak. Only goal was to see him dead. (Deleted her save but started over)

Quests/Factions: Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Civil War (Imperial)

Summer Reading/Writing/Arting Tag!

Okie dokie, I’ve been tagged by the sweetest @blossom-adventures to take part in this tag game, which I really thank you for it 🌸🌸🌸 I will let anyone participate in this game!! Because I don´t want anyone to feel pressured :)

1) Describe one creative WIP project you’re planning to work on over the summer. Hhahahahahahahaha *SWEATS PROFOUSEDLY* Like I hope I will finish all my current wips.(I HAVE SO MANY!!!) Because I owe you all from the asks. But I also have this need to write Titus/Glauca drabbles when he´s either your father or you´re kidnapped by him and it will went kinda toxic romance. (But depends If i will have the energy and skills for that) and ermhmhmgf ... I am still planning to do the dirty headcannons about glaives.

2) Recommend a book. Books from the world Of Guild Wars 2, namely Edge of Destiny, Sea of Sorrows and Ghosts of Ascalon. I love this game and the books are good ( not the best, but I like to read it anyway. And it´s great for some light reading and chilling with cold lemonade.)

3) Recommend a fic! Haha, really just one? Okay ... eh, I am really obssessed with It´s Running Onwards, To the Hope of a New Day by CarminiteWyrm or Wish upon a start by Loki_chan.(This one is so lovely and painful. It´s also Cor/Nyx) Oh, I almost forget The Party in Question by Awlwren and Crossfire by Sorianis. Holy guacamole, I am an idiot. HEARTH OF THUNDER by @ertrunkenerwassergeist I really like that fic very much! (Also re-reading it too much) And also many mooore, but I do always forget them, when I am suppose to recommend :(

4) Recommend music! Uuuu, for this summer I recommend Innocently annoying by Elysewood. And Valhalla calling me by accapella group Miracle of Sound. (The range of their voices!)

5) Share one piece of advice! Do whatever you like, and don´t care what may people think about you. Life is too precious to not enjoy it.

Who’s your favorite OC right now? What’s their most appealing traits/themes to you? 👀

I got a couple favs at the moment but Ryan definitely takes the cake right now. She's a relatively old OC but I recently got back into the game she's from (guild wars 2) and all her shit got brought at the forefront of my mind again and I'm like (shakes fist)

there's so much I love about her, I'm not even sure where to start lmao

she's a sylvari, a race of plant humanoids who emerge fully grown and retain the knowledge of the sylvari before them, to a degree, they're not a hivemind though, each sylvari being its own person. besides being mentioned that they don't have a heart but do have a digestive system in one (1) article, how the sylvari work is largely unknown which is great for headcannons

I'm really pleased with her visual design as well, but I think at the end of the day the thing that really appeals to me about her is the story, both what I've created for her and the actual gw2 story

she's technically only 15years old as a sylvari, though she'd likely be in her late 20s - early 30s as a human. She emerged from her pod with her twin brother Wyn and went straight into a proto-reality world war (whatever the fuck means, wiki) where they fought for 5 years, losing her brother in the process. Coming back from that, she was thrust into commanding and then leading an alliance against the dragons trying to destroy the world, along with every other world disaster and none stop crisis for like 10 years so like my girl ain't got no fucking sleep

and the plot points or things she's been through that literally drive me insane thinking about are, pretty major spoilers SO IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET SPOILERED FOR GW2 GET OUTTA HERE

having to climb up a seemingly endless tower built like a maze, full of hallucination inducing poison, having to fight enemies she's not even sure are truly there, just to get to the top to put a stop to it

trying to save a city that no only was bombarded to hell and back, but was also filled with a toxic miasma, which still affects people near a decade later - bonus points for all the civilians screaming in the background while you're trying to find your way around the ruble

sylvari turns out are, or at least were, dragon minions and the dragon they come from straight up just talks in their head while they're trying to kill him (you don't get that if you're playing as another race)

the commander (aka Ryan) literally, straight up died to the hands of a fire god, who toyed with her the entire fight, and she then had to claw herself out of the underworld, spurred on by the anxiety of what will they do without me

this antagonist throwing it in her face that everything she's done in a desperate attempt to save the world is actually making it worse and the world actually needs saving from her

almost canonically died. again

there's probably more but like you get the point - she's not alright 🙃

My new headcannon for the Norn is that they are shapeshifters. I know, I know, no duh they can turn into bears. But not just that, that they adapt as a whole like super quickly, like 1-2 generations quickly. Boom, the reason norn even look human is because once upon a time they lived more closely with humans in the past maybe? They are tall as all balls because they then lived with the kodan and charr nearest them? Canthan faces? Boom some norn made it to Cantha as they went south and adapted. A few of my norn are minimum height, who is to say it’s not because they’ve been around humans for so long again and that’s slowly dropping their height? I seem to remember them being taller in GW1 too come to think of it.

Idk, just a random thought I had at midnight.

I’ve never really had a cosplay character, and what with all the cosplay contests going on this time of the year decided lucky number 38 would get to be one! I give you Tiffany Miyamura!

Her name’s a mashup of the names of her VA’s in the anime, English and Japanese, and the character is Asuka Langley Soryu from Evangelion! Of course that meant I had to get a shot of her on the made up to look like an Eva skyscale lol.

My personal Gorrik headcannons !

Hi! these are my personal headcannons for Gorrik ! Please enjoy, and remember these are headcannons, it’s my personal takes on what we know, and what the game gives us. So with no further do, let’s begin !

- He is stronger than he looks like, why i say that ? because of this:

Excuse me Gorrik, 5 CAVALIERS ??? So yeah, don’t mess with Gorrik (nor Blish nor Taimi) if you don’t want to get your ass kicked .

- Gorrik have lots of scars on his left arm. It’s due to his experiments (remember Petey growing under his skin) and since he study insects he might sometimes get stinged by them.

Which not only make his left arm less viable (i imagine him as originally ambidextrous), but also more resistant to maybe some venoms/poisons)

- Gorrik is an Holosmith, that mean he can technically wield sword, not that he would want to, but he can. Do what you want with that info.

- This phrase that Gorrik say:

makes me think that Gorrik himself got disappointed by somebody, i don’t know who could it be, but for me it might be the reasons him and Blish joined the Inquest. Again do what you want with that info.

- Gorrik is not used to compliments coming from people other than his brother

I swear that’s how you react when you are not used to such compliment, GORRIK YOU ARE BABY.

-He can be and is a picky eater, it fit the fact he is on the spectrum, even if just looking at him and the way he act makes me think that.

- Last and non the less (it kinda is related to a ship but honestly i feel like it’s going to be cannon a day or another): Taimi calls him “Cuddle Bug”. Like... come on... im 100% sure that would be a fitting name, he may not look like it, but he definitely is a loving person, who got lots of love to give, in his own way of course.

Sometimes Taimi, when talking to other peoples about him, let slip accidentally that nickname, which is embarrassing for both of them. It’s cute and funny, leave me alone.

Ok i’m done with my headcannons for now, hope you like them ! Again, Gorrik is baby!

small headcannon

Norns are spread out in homesteads all across the Shiverpeaks. Hoelbrak is like a central hub thing. Mainly, these homesteads all share the same main religion (Spirits of the Wild), but they all have different cultures and physical appearances. The further North they are, the more culturally different they are. Also hc that Norns from the far far North are darker in appareance.

Similarly for Charr, different 'groups' of Charr will share specific physical aspects.

rezzes you to 99% during combat and just fucking runs off

abandoned all morals to fully devote their life to baby aurene (understandable)

spends HOURS leveling up their cooking skill. you’ll always find them either at the cooking station or harvesting random shit in different areas

Something that Ive noticed on Guild Wars Tumblr

I noticed that a lot of people ignore the fact that Trehearne died after HoT, but I abosultely LIVE for the AUs people have for their commanders if Trehearne was still alive.

And ive got to say, keep up the good work! Although we dont know for sure if Trahearne is dead (ive read many creative theories that he is still somewhat alive) I love reading all the ideas and stories about Trahearne.

I think it’s time i rant why i ship the Commander with Caithe.

And not specifically MY commander, but the general commander character. (which is why i don’t care that my Commander happens to be male)

I don’t even know where to start... i guess for clarifications:

I personally don’t feel either way for Caithe. I guess i like her but she wouldn’t be on my top 10-20 favourit character list.

When i first played Guild Wars 2(yes my main character is my first ever character) i played through with the mindset that i am this charr and i will make the choices that i think will save the most lives(lel.... later on i learned it didn’t matter). So when i plowed through the personal story of the Commander i was in the mindset of “I AM A CHARR!!! AND IN THIS WORLD OF CONSTANT BATTLE I AM THE DEADLIEST WEAPON OF ALL!” (also mild Denalien influence but Denalien is intertvined with my being so... let’s not go into that)

I LOVED that Rytlock was badass and unflinching and angry i guess in simpler way: Charr = GW2′s version of orks(WoW) which means Rytlock = Thrall but actually badass.

By pure coincidence i made the choices that made me meet with mainly charr characters and it made me believe it’s because i chose charr that i meet charr. Later on i learned that... no... i just chose the paths that made me meet charr.

Queue in the story instances from 10 to 80, and past-kehideni notices a pattern. Rytlock is not the one that your character connects to the most.

I know, the letters you get are all from Rytlock when you are a charr, but the one other person Arenanet pushes your Commander to connect with is- you guessed it- Caithe.

Twilight Arbor- now you would argue Rytlock Logan and Caithe but Rytlock leaves before you start fighting any nightmare court and Logan after just a bunch of spiders. Canonically, it’s just the Commander and Caithe. Nothing actually that i’d noticed when playing through because the Commander only asks questions from Caithe that i’d want to know anyway. However this instance literally has established a connection between the two that later on gets referenced in a throwaway speechline with someone you’ll be surprised by. We’ll get to that.

Sorrow’s Embrace- Eir, Zojja and Caithe: the Commander asks Caithe for information (of course, who else. Not like they can ask Zojja at that moment, but these are all just starting off things)

Honor of the Waves- Eir and Caithe: the Commander tells Caithe to shut up and let Eir come to the right conclusion herself which makes me laugh to this day xD (This is where my personal meme comes from “Shut up, Kyle Caithe!”)

Ruined city of Arah- the Commander sasses Caithe. Basically in the story instances the Commander and Caithe work towards the same goal, to reunite Destiny’s Edge.

Things happen in the between though: There is this quest where Trahearne and the Commander enter a vision of the Pale Tree. In there, the Pale Tree tells the Commander that they MUST reunite Destiny’s Edge and this is where Twilight Arbor greets back a bit.

When you walk past the members you hear them talk to each other, blame each other.

Caithe however stands out because she isn’t talking with one of her friends, she talks to Faolain. The crazy part is that in this vision you are not supposed to AND can’t talk to any vision-npc.... that is except for Faolain herself. But let’s see what happened beforehand:

Narratively speaking when a character says they are alone and tired, it’s supposed to elicit protectiveness from the viewer and/or empathy.

“So here i am a bulky a** charr, why is her love life any of my buisness?” - very emotional quote from kehideni of the past

Aaaaaha... sure whatever you say Trahearne, but wait.. because here comes the kicker. The ACTUAL kicker where past-kehideni went

“Wait jus- hold on just a minute here...”

Faolain that was awfully possessive of you, i’m a big a** charr. What competition would i be in this future-vision to you? And then the Commander says “I won’t let Caithe fall into nightmare.”

A little bit of extra:

“Pft... whatever... you’re just her ex.” says the Commander. :v

In Arah Caithe thanks you for saving Destiny’s Edge (also interestingly she is the chosen companion npc as she’s the one that resses you if you get downed) and at the end of the fight she says that all of Tyria is in the Commander’s debt. Ok ... casual stuff. She’s been thanking the Commander left and right that day. As if she didn’t drive home the fact that she’s grateful she thanks the Commander once again at the end party and also is the one to suggest the Commander should go after the rest of the Elder Dragons too.

The next you meet her is the Aetherblade path in Twilight Arbor, the narrative distances Caithe from the Commander. By this time canonically they are friends, duh. So it’s like a friend has a side the Comm didn’t know so far. Nothing interesting yet, let’s hurry on.

She attends the summit, of course she does. You can’t talk with her.

In Echoes of the Past Comm saves her, their talk is still friendly but distanced. I do want to note that Canach and Caithe are so similar in attitude xD

Tangled Paths: Comm goes up to her to talk and she says “don’t mind me” and proceeds to follow you around and friendly-mocks you as “boss”. We know NOW why, but not back then. This is important because not long before this i realised that the Comm can’t possibly be me. It’s MassEffect’s case of Commander Shepard. You controll them but they are their own character and your choices have only slight weight in the story because the Commanders’ choices are already set in stone by the actual writers. What you CAN do is write the WHY parts, and this is soon the part where my writing interferes with actual canon but you’ll see my reasonings.

When the Comm talks with Caithe she’s the most civil with them among their allies. (We later learn it was to keep the Comm. in the dark.)

The beauty of this scene is that Caithe WILL learn why a mother can’t keep their eyes off of their children.

“Is that a problem?” “Not for me.” Still can take this line as civil but kinda funny line in hindsight. (Get it? Because it will be a problem for them.)

So Caithe’s betrayal happens, and the Comm is FURIOUS!

Lol my charr is too tall, but the shot was meant to place the Comm face to face with Caithe because in the next shot she looks them in the eye and goes for the egg.

When Marjory notes that Caithe is a Sylvari the Comm goes defensive “So? What are you trying to say?” Their friend would never do that- is what narratively they want to convey, but later on in HoT the Comm reacts so harshly to her betrayal i took the wheel a bit.

I mean let’s add up what the Comm knows: Mordremoth created the sylvari, he has mental access to them, he can mind controll them, fool them if they are too strongwilled to do his bidding. Caithe is a sylvari with a strong will. If she betrayed them it’s not of her free mind. It’s like the victim-blaming when a girl gets drugged and they take her body to do as they please. Try as she might she wasn’t clear in the head but she made it clear later on that she didn’t want to betray the Comm. Why would she after all she can be thankful for to the Comm?

So what gives? Well in my mind, the only way to rectify Anet’s nonsense writing(they should really stop reading GW2 reddit forums, not a good place to be influenced with) is to give the Comm a reason to take it to heart a bit too much, say... if they were harboring feelings for her. In my mind it adds up.

So HoT happens, and Caudecus is making his move.

Where next you meet Caithe: Out of the Shadows. (fitting title for her, huh?)

At this point the writing of GW2 seems to take a chillpill so i go with the flow. The Comm realising that he overreacted inspects himself: Why? This is the part the Comm realises that “oh sheet, they got them feels.”

Aurene hatches, Caithe is there.

The first time the Comm is voiced in LW and he jokes around with a character it’s with Caithe.

Comm: “I’d feel better if someone i knew was watching the chamber.”

Caithe fishing for the one line that would reassure her that the Comm talking with her actually means that they are ok with her now: “Someone you trust?”

Comm: “Yeah, so... could you ask Taimi to get her right away?”

Caithe relieved her relationship with Comm is safe: “You’re joking with me, i take that as a good sign.” They talk around a bit more, they are healing and that’s adorable.

Later on she thanks the Comm for letting her prove herself to them by looking out for Aurene.

Path of Fire happens, she’s like throwaway-ly mentioned by Taimi.

I was all, “Well, goodbye Caithe you got Zojja’d, it was a good headcannon while it lasted” but THENNNNNNN ARENANET THROWS ME THIS

Like... are you fkin’ kidding me. This line alone means that she’s been stalking the Commander IN STEALTH ATLEAST since they met Zafirah in Sun’s Refuge!!! THE BARE MINIMUM SHE SAW FROM STEALTH WAS THE COMM GOING IN ON A SUICIDE MISSION, HOW ABOUT SOME HELP YOU CONNIVING VEGETAB- sorry... my personal annoyance at her came out.

Back to story, after this All or Nothing happens where the Comm and Caithe are confirmed parents of Aurene. When Aurene branded Caithe only the Comm asked if she was still herself, not even Rytlock nor Logan, the actual two people who know her longest. The Comm and Caithe are constantly paralleled next to Aurene as her “champions” because dragons apparently don’t have parental bonds*sarcasm* :V

Requiem happens and Rytlock himself says he sees it now. Coincidentally as of writing this he is going through the very same trauma Caithe and Comm went through when Aurene died.

Caithe calls for Comm to return to her because she needs them, and the Comm tells everyone they should go and spend whatever time they have with people they love. Implying that Aurene is who Comm loves but then again Caithe is there too. The 3 of them were going to spend the last of their lives with each other. (not saying they don’t love the rest of the group, but had they decided to leave, the 3 would still stay together.)

As from War Eternal to till now their co-parental connection is getting stronger.

Why he was a Prisoner Ethaniel took on what he thought was just a handful of Thalmor, thirsting for vengeance after they had cut the entire LaChance family line down to just him, his mother, and sister. He managed to kill several of them, but he was no match for one unidentified altmer mage that took him down effortlessly. Deciding that he should be made an example instead of killing him on spot, the severely wounded and weakened widow was bound and sent off to Helgen. 3. “Half”-Elf Ethaniel’s family tree is a colorful bouquet of people; his maternal great-grandmother is a Nord and his paternal grandfather is a Breton (Hence the name “LaChance”), but he is predominantly Imperial/Dunmer (Malkhai jokingly calls him a 'Dunperial’) While there is a fairly even inheritance of both his mother and father’s aesthetic traits, the hood he wears most of the time (which was his father’s) covers his ears and casts a dark shadow over his eyes, so at a first and quick glance he’s seen as an ordinary Imperial or Breton. It works well for him in places like Windhelm, where the Nords are wary at best of merfolk, but works against him in places like Gray Quarter where the dunmer are just as quick to treat him like an outsider. But there are more pros than cons– he can use both the “Voice of the Emperor” and “Wrath of the Ancestors”; he also has a strong resistance to fire, which he owes a lot of thanks to for surviving almost 200 years of encounters with sworn enemies like the Justicar (whom apparently like to burn everything) and the Dragon Crisis that followed. 4. The Companions Through his work with the Companions he was able to recover the health and strength that was severely damaged by the Thalmor mage. He embraced Lycanthropy as a gift, believing it to be a valuable power against the Thalmor, dragons, and other major enemies. But something happened that the Companions did not expect, because they did not know he was the Dovahkiin (Not even Ethaniel knew he was at the time); raging inside this elf was the wild soul of a dragon, and to combine it with the spirit of a wolf made him ever more aggressive. He ventured out into the wilderness on his own for many weeks between Companion tasks to find ways to regain control of his humanity, only to lose more of it to his hunger for human flesh. It was with Aela’s help that he learned how to manage himself, but by that time he had already sought out satisfaction through the Dark Brotherhood. Knowing that he could not remain a true Harbinger as a Listener, he gave that position to Aela, whom he had taken as his wife shortly after the Emperor’s assassination. 5. Religious Belief / Alignment Ethaniel is an Omnist; he acknowledges and respects all deities, believing that each one plays an important role in a well-balanced universe, even Sithis despite being told that he is 'chaos’ and 'discord’. Embracing chaos as something essential to balance he is therefore himself somewhat chaotic in nature, but one can always count on him to be truthful, honorable, and respectful (even as an antagonist in most cases.) Though his parents devoted themselves completely to the ways and beliefs of the Dark Brotherhood, and he assisted survivors of the Thalmor invasion for over a hundred years, Ethaniel never officially joins them until 4E 201. Malkhai and Lucien, while wishing to be completely honest about the guild, refrained from dishonoring their vow by revealing what is meant to stay within the ruling body, so until then he knew no more about the DB than the average initiate. The spirit of his deceased father guided him, providing wisdom that came to him in his dreams. He compelled Ethaniel to enter the abandoned house in Windhelm (to speak to Aventus, of course), and make the fateful decision to kill the abusive old woman in Riften. But it is when he was called to follow the Way of the Voice (long after the end of the main questline) that his alignment shifted- in time he returned position to Malkhai with a heavy heart, for it meant that he had to forfeit the ability to summon the spirit of his father. But Lucien didn’t take it as hard as you might imagine- Fulfilling his destiny by 'restoring the Brotherhood to greatness’ had assured him eternal love and favor from the Dread Father and Night Mother, which can only be lost by betraying it. 6. Detail-oriented Like his father, Ethaniel is a very detail-oriented person. Everything must have a place, if a mess is made it must be cleaned up right away, upon receiving a task he will learn everything he can about the mission and the people involved before carrying it out (So in-game he will listen to the long and detailed dialogue and won’t disengage until the NPC has nothing more to say). 7. Personality Ethaniel is generally quiet and contemplative. Determined to be a good gentleman, he avoids being boastful, keeps crude jokes within the small circle of close friends/family members, avoids going into unnecessary details during awkward discussions or avoids them altogether if he can (i.e. past relationships, political stances, etc…) or honest opinions that might alienate or antagonize people unless someone drives it out of him (i.e. when he was asked for his thoughts on the civil war while the prominent figures of both sides were present and put him on the spot; he said flat out that he thinks they’re all morons and went on to give them a long-winded explanation for why). Throughout most of his life he’s avoided confrontation and violent reactions to minor offenses, but once he became a werewolf it became increasingly difficult- he began to secretly hope for someone to give him a reason to kill them (The racist nord in Windhelm that shouted insults and threats in Gray Quarter- he’s essential, but in my headcannon Eth kills him). 8. Voice Ethaniel has a deep and lulling voice, much like his father (Think Brian Bloom (normal); without the accent or poetic twist in his speech. Because of this he does very well as a bard whenever he works up the nerve (and has the time) to work as one for extra coin.

Into Chaos ( fanfiction file no. 1)

It was cold in the hall. The Priory could be a great place for knowledge and experience, but not for confort. Well, the weather was great for preservation. No brain would go rotten there, for sure.

This time, however, Cassidie was there not to read books or make any experiment. She had gotten a letter from the steward, and it sounded urgent. She hated that. Urgent letters made her feel unconfortable, like she had done something wrong and was about to hear about it. There was no motive: her missions where done and all reports were redacted and filed in the archives.

"Magister, i require your presence in my office for a urgent matter."

So, the asura was now looking at the office doors, nervous. There were voices on the inside, and her perception of life forces told her there were others with Steward Gixx and Ogden. More than that she could not infer.

A deep breath. And a push to the doors.

"Ah, Magister Cassidie, glad you came. I trust you already know Councillor Suzzia."

"Magister."

How could she not know her? Her nice face, her fair brown hair well done, the soft skin. She could be the nicest asura on whole Tyria, and to most she certainly was. Hardworking, sympathetic to most, well educated, and tolerant. Cassidie hated her, an hate that grew deeply within. It all started when they where no more than meere young progeny...

The young progeny Cassidie was then a student in Thaumanova. The Thauma Magitech Labs United had a small lab dedicated to forming the progeny of their workers. Some would then stay there and just naturally enter one of their labs. In her case, her mother worked there in the Golem assembly lines, and she hated it there.

Suzzia was almost her age, and a smart young progeny. Her father was famous for inventing some relay crystal, so there she was, an example of a progeny. They became friends when Professor Tarkk assigned them a little project. After that, they where together doing projects or exploring the city and annoying the vendors.

That was, until...

When again their professor gave credit only to Suzzia, Cassidie decided she was too tired of being less considered just because her parents were not famous. Suzzia made a funny face, of someone who was trying to look cute and crying at the same time. That was it. Not only he put her in probation, as latter Suzzia ignored and started moking her with new friends.

With that she just got out of it. Ran away from that lab, and all of them. She would find a new teacher, a new lot of troubles, but hoped had seen the last of Suzzia.

Not.

She was in the College of Synergetics when she saw Suzzia again. It was a strange fate that, of all three asuran colleges, they had to choose the same. Except this time Cassidie was no longer a timid progeny, but a bitter necromancer apprentice with a bit of Inquest medling on her background. So, instead of being happy when the two where assigned a project, she dreaded it. But had to work hard for it. It was college, after all, expensive and extenuous, but rewarding.

However, during the presentation her name was cut out, like she wasn't even in the project. It was not on the papers either. It had been the last drop, and the two got out of it with a fight. Cassidie got a black eye and a suspension of two weeks.

Only much latter she found a place in Varkk's krewe, and by that time Suzzia was already graduated and gaining fame among asuras.

"Steward, Councillor... I came as soon as i could. You spoke of an urgent matter."

"Indeed. Councillor Suzzia brought us an urgent matter; they have found the cavern from where the Inquest extrated crystals used in Thaumanova. The place is still controlled by them, but an investigation would be in order, to at least understand what happened in Thaumanova. I have assigned you this mission. I trust you can do your best to enlighten us in this situation."

To work with Suzzia again... she would rather go directly to Arah completely naked.

"The cavern is located in Iron Marches, west of the Old Piken ruins. Arcane Eye agents are already securing the place. We believe some Inquest are inside. They either were displaced there when it blew up, or are preparing something. Not good. The sooner we get there, the sooner we'll get to the bottom of this."

"The Arcane Council thanks your suport, Steward Gixx."

The place was littered with Arcane Eye agents. Most of them didn't say anything when Cassidie entered the perimeter, but a few still remembered when she got Professor Gorr out. They hadn't exactly ended in good terms, even if Councillor Flax dropped all charges on her and Batanga.

"Wonder if she's here to bail her necromancer teacher out. What is Councillor Suzzia thinking?"

"I don't care what Councillor Flax said. She tries that here, i'll show her some Arcane Eye force."

She hadn't considered that. After the Thaumanova disaster, she avoided any thought on her former teacher. He was an active researcher in the Inquest facilities when the reactor blew up, and one of the many that simply went missing. No one else cared; he was old and mad, completely deranged even for Inquest standards.

And that was the motive Suzzia came to request her. She planned to use the necromancer against her old master. Well, Inquest or not a master is a master, and she did not plan to do what the councillor told her. To hell with Suzzia and her pretty plans and popularity.

If only she didn't feel like she had to impress Gixx...

Once inside the chaos was evident. Broken Inquest golems and bodies amidst the bursting crystals. The air was filled with static and strange energies. Yet, she felt it as familiar. She had grown up with that strangeness around, studying chaos within and around herself. So many questions. Would there be answers in that cave? Had her old masters the answers she seeked?

There was one researcher alive. When interrogated, he begged to be spared; he had a brokken leg, and blood was dripping from his nose. He had no idea if there were others alive, or where were they.

She had to find him before Suzzia or the Arcane Eye.

Using life force perception, there was a faint sign of life there, either to far away or to weak. They went looking on the other side of the cavern. But the chaos crystals were acting up, shrinking some agents, pulling creatures from everywhere, or even altering the course of time. For once she thought she had seen a steam creature (those foul creatures she had... well, it was better not to think about it. The Infinity Ball was stripped of power and stored away safely). And time was flowing backwards sometimes, or stopping and then jumping foward.

Up some pillars there was a hidden chamber. There, she saw him.

He was not physically hurt, but it was evident he would not live much longer. Feeble and breathing hard, he was muttering to himself. In the last years he had gone bald, but never lost that spark of mischief. As soon as she entered the chamber, he knew she was there, and he knew it was her, and nobody else.

"Ah, if it isn't my young gloomy little apprentice. Tell me, Cassidie, did you come to see your old master die? Have you finally gotten tired of playing good asura in college and embrace who you truly are?"

"You know that's not it. I was worried... I... I know i've been away. I couldn't stay with the Inquest. Look at what happened."

He laughed, and then started coughing hard. All of that had taken a toll on him.

"I know you better than that. You didn't look behind, and you did right. Be free, from the Inquest, from them... you don't need them. But tell me, you come for answers, don't you? In all your travels and adventures, and believe me i know of them, you haven't found anything quite like you."

"You know...?

"I can't tell you. Sorry, my young demon. It is not from me you'll hear it."

That was him. He had a dirty secret, and he would take it to the grave. Good old master, always a selfish prick.

"Suzzia dragged me here. To study the crystals. To do whatever she wants... with you. I hate her."

"I wont live long. I can already feel the final minutes ticking away from me. I'm finally going to study the Eternal Alchemy up close, touch it. What's happening here is a twinning effect. We messed up with this crystals, we were idiots to use dragon magic with chaotic material. Now, the chaos reacts to himself after the Thauma blow up. Take my things: my insignia, my research. Don't let those councillor idiots take it. Do whatever you want with them. But know this: you have something, and it's time will come too. It won't be easy, or fair. But you're not like us."

Outside she could hear the councillor and agents looking for her, as if she was an escaped criminal.

"Don't you dare to cry, you idiot. And do me a favor, and punch however that Suzzia is in her face."

"I told you councillor she would run away with him. She's no better than them."

"Quiet. Until there's proof of it, they can still be here. And we need him to..."

"He's dead." Cassidie said, suddenly relaxed, like she was just taking some tea and waiting for friends to join her. "Anything more, councillor?"

They looked like idiots. Pawns in the hand of a beauty saint-like manipulator.

"Oh dear, i'm sorry you have to go through this. It's okay Savant, you're at ease here. We're just going to get some samples, and you are free to return to the Priory. Agents, please, take what it's needed."

But not even when they were alone she dropped that mask. For that the necromancer found her absolutely hedious.

"I know you hate me, Savant, Magister, what title you wear. But that doesn't change the fact that I won prizes before you, and am by far best located among our asuran peers. You have to respond to me."

"Is it, Councillor Suzzia? I don't know what you did to ever get to the Council, or who you did. But i don't have to give you nothing. Unlike you, i'm free. And i'm done here."

One week later her report was done, and she was about to submit it to be archived. His Inquest insignia was now resting inside one of her backpack pockets, the research papers where actually a heavy binded book in her collection. She hadn't dared to read them yet. Perhaps one day latter, when all of that was but a bad distant memory.

After all that, Suzzia had come again to speak with the steward. It seemed like she had a great delight in speaking with Gixx, even more when Cassidie was there doing her obligatory Magister chores. It made her blood boil, but her mouth was sealed shut. After all, as long as she remained quiet, she had something Suzzia didn't, and that was a victory. Even if she didn't understand what the councillor really wanted from him.

She had also a headache. Not something big and hurtful, but something that remained there for days, tiring her. Could be from the chaos within the cavern. On her way to the enfermary to grab some pills, she found Historian Garrod there, getting stitches.

"What happened? You look terrible, Historian."

"We were attacked by some massive shadow creature in the swamp. What about you? I believe you haven't come to the enfermary just for a visit, Magister."

"Nothing heroic, just a strange persistent headache that's bothering me for seven days now."

"That's funny. That is exactly when that shadow behemoth attacked the swamp..."
