"Word of god" canon: there's no good reason for the finger tape. He just thought it looked cool, added to the character "Maybe it makes him a better guitar player?" quoted from Randy himself 🤣

... i wonder if there's, like, something to the fact that lex wears denim in black friday that links her thematically in some way to uncle wiley
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like... clearly the costume department has got it going on, as evidenced by the steph and pete / emma and paul matchiness thing-
if we take denim as a thing that would represent wiley, then, if someone is wearing it they could be seen as reflecting back some of his aspects. so, things wiley is and whether lex has those aspects: viciously anti-capitalist ( ✔ check, the wiggly materialism spell straight up didn't work on them), proficient with the black-and-white ( ✔ check post discovering her summoning power), and extremely sleazy (❌ uncheck, lex never did anything wrong and i love them)
for this analysis, then, i will assign the denim the quality that wiley displays during his villain song, Made In America:
Tumblr media
he hates capitalism, this guy. wiley sees in consumer culture a weakness that he can and will exploit for his lord.
wiley's tool to enact the will of wiggly is consumerism as represented by a doll, but... it doesn't work on lex. they're not concerned with materialism, but with the safety of their kid sister and boyfriend. if she was pursuing an acting career as a vehicle to make money, it would have been Very easy for her to highlight that she wanted to get rich during CaliforMIA. she doesn't, though - lex is not materlalist.
there is, however, one moment where lex does in fact sing about money!
Tumblr media
Our Doors Are Open is frank pricely's ode to capitalism. and in this, notably, lex buys in- she sings along, quite ferociously, give us your fucking money, give us your fucking cash.
clearly, at this point in the musical, though, she was looking for money through a wiggly doll - so she hadn't yet rid herself of the desire for it, like she manages to later. in this song, she sings along because yeah, actually, she does want that money. it'll help her.
she's not wearing denim.

Tagged by @village-skeptic to "share three random facts about yourself."
My front teeth are mostly fake! There was something up with the fluoride in the Philadelphia water when I was a baby that messed up the surfaces of my natural teeth, so five of the six top-fronts are now porcelain veneers...and the sixth is an entirely fake bridge because I'm just congenitally missing that one (ditto one sister and our maternal grandmother).
I took guitar lessons for a couple of years, mainly because my parents were like "pick an instrument but not drums" (my sisters both tried piano) but was always terrible at it and retained nothing. I cannot read music and am basically tone-deaf.
I've never been big on costumes. I love cosplay in theory, but in practice I have little interest in actually dressing up as anything with real effort—including for Purim or Halloween—and usually just fake something with whatever I already own if I absolutely must. Longtime followers may recall I've done Carmen Sandiego a whole bunch of times since acquiring a red trenchcoat about a decade ago, as you basically just need that and a hat (which I purchased concurrently for this reason) to make it work.

i don't know if anyone's brought this up yet, but in carmy's new york flashback in episode 2, all of the chefs are wearing blue aprons—the exact kind of blue apron that he introduces to the crew in episode 3.
so, not only is carmy working in an environment that can be described as mentally exhausting at the bare minimum, festering in a kitchen full of little reminders of michael that ooze from every corner like a seeping wound—he's also decided to top that off with a constant visual reminder of the other frenzied hellscape he used to work at.
i knew carmy was self-destructive, but holy shit. the worst part is, on the other side of that pain there's absolute delight. his world is the kitchen. every torment and every pleasure are met with the same amount of reverence because he has nothing else to hold on to aside from his knives, his cookbooks, and his apron.
