“I implore you, brethren, never to break or despise the rule of this prayer: A Christian when he eats, drinks, walks, sits, travels or does any other thing must continually cry: ‘Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me.’ So that the name of the Lord Jesus descending into the depths of the heart, should subdue the serpent ruling over the inner pastures and bring life and salvation to the soul. He should always live with the name of the Lord Jesus, so that the heart swallows the Lord and the Lord the heart, and the two become one. And again: do not estrange your heart from God, but abide in Him, and always guard your heart by remembering our Lord Jesus Christ, until the name of the Lord becomes rooted in the heart and it ceases to think anything else.”
Someone in the crowd said to him, 'Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.'
Jesus replied, 'Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?' Then he said to them, 'Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.'
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23
In Luke 6:25 Jesus states that is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks. If there is abundant good in our heart, then we will speak good. If there is abundant evil in our heart, we will speak evil. If you want to know what is in a person's heart, keep listening to what they say. Sooner or later the true nature of their heart will be revealed.
It is so important that we guard our heart and what we allow into it, since what fills it will fill our life. The movies, shows or videos we watch, books, magazines or other material we read; music, radio stations, or other material we listen to and the company we keep, all can shape our heart. Too many Christians allow their hearts to feed on things that are not good for their spiritual growth or spend more time with unbelievers than they should. This leaves them stale and distant from God instead of fresh and in close fellowship with him.
Guard your heart. Keep it clean and pure. Your life flows out of your heart!
"Besides guarding the peace in your hearts, practice standing before the Lord. This means being unceasingly aware that we are standing in the presence of the Lord and that He is watching us all the time. We must learn to awake with the Lord and go to sleep with Him, and eat, work, and walk with Him. The Lord is present everywhere in all things."
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23
With all the attention we are taught to give our external appearance it hard to remember that it is what goes on internally that determines how we live. Whatever is inside will eventually show up on the outside if it is allowed to take root in our heart and mind:
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. Proverbs 23:7
Proverbs repeatedly encourages us to watch our thought life. That which you focus you thoughts on will manifest itself in your life. That is one reason the apostle Paul gave this advice:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
As someone who hasn’t always guarded my eyes ears heart and mind, don’t watch things like supernatural or demonic or witchcraft, because it’s so hard to stop thinking about it and once you allow it in it honestly 100% is welcoming that mess into your life, I’m just glad I didn’t go too far into it, because who knows what would’ve happened if I got further than just watching the tv shows and YouTube videos
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Proverbs 4:23
