💡What is an easter egg in the game that I find funny or interesting...
The Bigfoot one. I just find it funny how there's a grown man in a suit dressing and running around as the Bigfoot and when he talks to Franklin it's just so funny. Even more funny when it's revealed he's not the real Bigfoot, the real Bigfoot is actually in the woods during the predator mission. I sniped him by accident thinking he was a O'neill brother, only to realise afterwards. But yes the bigfoot easter egg is the one I find funniest.
🧠 What is something I wish the game had more of or had done differently?
Hmmmm hard to say as GTA 5 is such a great game I find it hard to find a flaw in it, but if I had to think of something I would say more map markers, especially when it came to the Strangers and Freaks missions such as the UFO pieces, the bounty hits, Leonora's letters and Abigail's dead husband. So many of the Strangers and Freaks missions didn't have the map markers of the clues marking where they were. I know some people don't mind this and like a challenge, but this really bothered me.
When I play a game, I want to have fun as a form of down time and relaxation, I don't want to get frustrated or stressed having to find the location myself when the game could of marked it out for me like they do in so many other open world games. Even looking at the game guide it is still tricky to find the actual location in the map. That's the only thing they could of done differently was that one in my opinon. Other than that it's a perfect game.
❤️ What is your favourite GTA V ship?
Call me a Crack shipper for this one but it's got to be Tracey and Franklin. I know not many people ship F and Tracey here but outside Tumblr I've seen quite a few fans who have in the world of fanfiction and even fan made edits and videos on Youtube. I don't know something about the idea of Tracey and Franklin dating just appeals to me.
I don't mind other ships though. I'm very chill when it comes to other ships. I'm a Ship and Let Ship person so long as it doesn't involve pedophilia or blood related family members I'm not really going to say anything. You do what you want as long as it makes you happy. My other close favourites in the fandom would be Framar (Franklin/Lamar) and Trikey.

Of course! I love Chop, I always have done. I take him out in the car with me whenever I go out around Los Santos and Sandy Shores, I love him. He's even protected me in game when several construction men started on me around Route 68 (Where the dinosaur diner is). I didn't even need to get my gun out because Chop had already handled them for me (He bit them for me). I also take him on walks with me sometimes and played fetch with him too. So yes I do play with Chop while using Franklin.

Los Santos - Progress Report 2022 - Part 4b: Back on track talking about roads

Okay now again...
This is a pretty in depth, technical and passionate talk about road textures I guess
During last years work on Los Santos (which was mainly september... Okay actually I think it was only september. But hey I haven’t made that much progress in any other year!) I replaced some road textures and reworked some road layouts that already existed. When a project is stretched out in such a long time window (2016-now) you not only work in one direction (from start to finish) but you also occasionally completely rework stuff from before. In all these years from 2016 this has been the only CAW project I’ve worked on. With every year I’m learning new quirks and tricks about the game and caw.
Now this is the point where I diverge from Part 4a
My issue with the previous roads is that they were compelety random textures grabbed from everywhere (GTA V Assets, Store Worlds, Internet and more...). They kind of looked like what I wanted them to look like but they didn’t match that well across the board.
If there was one single thing that I could change about how the worlds work in The Sims 3 it would be the road system. Don’t get me wrong. The roads in The Sims 3 are miles ahead (haha miles) of what we got in say The Sims 2. Sims 3 Roads can curve, run in any angle to the world grid, have different textures, working bridges,... Thats all stuff that Sims 2 can’t. At least from neighborhood view. In lot view roads can be a bit more flexible. But still I’d say that Sims 3 Roads are superior. Yet they only have one lane per side. They always have a sidewalk. They always have the same width. They are completely flat and normal maps can only do so much. I mean it’s okay. Its not Cities:Skylines or SimCity but things could be better.
My new roads work around many of the issues that I previously had with Sims 3 Roads. The new road textures are AGES ahead of the old ones and I spent like 2 weeks making and adjusting the textures (shoutout to the Pixelmator Pro developers for creating an Image Editor that doesn’t drive me crazy)
But let me go into detail:

The difference in detail when you see before and after next to each other is simply astonishing even for me. Look at how much more grungy and used the new roads look. Also note the asymmetric nature of them.
The old textures for this road were mainly modified roads from Roaring Heights. I had then made minor modifications by adding a curb to give the road more dimension. I originally picked that road because I liked the yellowish sidewalk which is also in Sunset Valley I think and it was the only one that also had these red plastered crosswalks that LA is so famous for.

Here you can see more of how much more detail the roads have. The curb has proper coloring compared to the sidewalk and there is a *whatever you call that part between the curb and asphalt* which has a dirty appearance while not looking too repeated.
Note: The curb has no seams and seems to be like one super long piece of curb (new insult unlocked you pice of curb) because the road detail texture repeats three times in one sidewalk til. If there was a seam the curb pieces would be super small.
A difficulty with repeating textures is always making them look detailed, contrasted and sharp without making them look too busy and repeated.
The sidewalk texture is a blend of the default sidewalk texture and a concrete texture. I then changed the color and added details by hand like the all the cracks and irregularities. Notice how the sidewalk gets very slightly darker to the seams too add more depth. Something like this has to be done very subtly so it doesn’t get overdone.

By crafting the road textures myself I can also work around issues that I had before.
I was actually a bit sad replacing the road texture in the vinewood hills area since that light road texture was the very first I used in this world. It was here from the start you could say. The textures were sourced from Lucky Palms where they’re used as freeway.
Now with the new roads I can fix the crossings that can’t have transparency on the sidewalk. The corners have the dirt/sand texture painted onto them so It gives them the illusion of transparency and they blend with their surroundings.

The road details are also handpainted. The yellow lines in the middle and the white borders. In the newer picture you can see how this unifies the different types of roads. The darker old road had white lines in the middle, while the lighter road had yellow lines that were also bigger.
Notice how the old roads were all over the place. The dark and light roads had no actual connection to each other. I mean they were connected but there is no relation between them. They could very well be in two completely different worlds. They don’t tell a story. The new roads do. You can see how these two roads are subject to the same law. The lines have to be the same as that’s how they are meant to be. You could think about how the darker roads are more fresh and how they were paved onto the lighter roads because they were too broken but they didn’t pave the road completely because of financial constraints and other parts still being okay.
It’s laughable but you can really think of an entire story just for a section of a road.

Now onto my favorite part about the new roads! I got really excited when I realized I could do this. Using the road detail overlay I created road sections that are bicolored. In my opinion this little detail makes the world look so much more realistic. It just gives it that extra layer of depth and I love it.

Previously I only had roads connected to each other that had completely different colors (top picture). Now I am able to connect these in a way that makes them look like only one side got new pavement and the other lane was still okay so they left as is. This one road you see in the bottom picture looks completely natural like one road that got new pavement in some areas, when it’s actually technically 3 different roads:

How much a neighborhood can change when you replace the roads. Kind of funny how clean perfect roads were replaced with cracked used roads yet the crappy roads make the area look better.

Some roads in Los Santos are really, really broken and in dire need of complete repaving! Why do I even pay taxes??? I wanted a road that resembles just that! Look at how broken the road is. Full of seams filled with tar and how each tile is colored a bit differently. Also I alternated the direction of the road every now and then to break up the repetition. Do you notice the thin lines that run on each tile?
I feel like this was the hardest road to not overdo. It’s a really busy pattern but in my opinion it still looks good. For each road I had to balance the textures between GTA V’s art style, Sims 3′s art style, my desired art style, and reality. I wanted to make them look as good and realistic as I could without making them look completely out of place. Always remember: They need to look good with a Sim standing on them, a house being next to them and a Sims 3 basegame car on them. All of these have to fit together without making any one of them looking edited in. I cant replace every single game asset after all. Or could I? *Vsauce music starts playing*

Now after my TED Talk about Sims 3 Roads is over I may have come to the conclusion that the roads are the single most important thing to mind when creating a world (next to terrain). They are the connection between every single point in the world and a gateway into the heart of the created world. When you see the roads, you know what kind of place the world is trying to represent. Just take a look at all the different EA worlds and how different the roads can be (e.g. Monte Vista vs Twinbrook).

The Pet Shop Boys Video Game

You may know about West End Girls being in GTA V, or the various songs that have been included in karaoke and rhythm games. But that's just tracks included in the game, not an entire game with the central focus of the Pet Shop Boys. Surely nothing like that exists...right?
Our story begins on a late Saturday night, in a Discord voice call. @condylicious, knowing my obsession with PSB, had jokingly searched for "Pet Shop Boys video game" on Youtube.
What we found was an enigma that plagued our lives for the rest of the night. So now I present it to you, dear reader, in hopes that this curiosity is documented for posterity.
This is PSB Game (1992) for the Commodore 64.
(Full essay below.)
Part 1: Gameplay
Lucky for all of us, not only is the PSB Game available online, but it's playable right out of Archive.org! I recommend adjusting the emulator's joystick settings so that the controls work properly.
Intro
Upon loading up the ROM, the first screen we're presented with has an animated color border, the name Riff Raffs, the label Pet Shop Boys +6, and a scrolling message in the middle.

Quick tangent: this first screen that we've been presented with is a crack intro. To quickly summarize, breaking and removing a software's copy protection oddly enough has a culture around it, complete with entire teams that work on cracking programs. Not only do they remove the copy protection, but they add their own little flourish at the intro. The Riff Raffs here are one such team.

The second screen is a cheat menu, also added in by the crack team. For my playthrough I gave myself infinite lives because I'm bad at video games.
Title Screen
With all of that out of the way, it's time to start the game!

Other than the big text declaring PSB Game, there's the credit of 1992 S Pearson (we'll come back to this later), and an indication that Neil is Port 1 and Chris is Port 2. The title screen also has an extremely loud clashing noise playing over it. Listening closely though, it's a few second loop of the beginning of Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money).
I'm gonna be honest, these visuals combined with the clanging bitcrushed audio is uncannily similar to the supposed Polybius title screen. If the Men in Black show up at my door five days from now and start asking me synth-pop related questions then this is why.
The Stages
Pressing fire on the title screen starts the game. Whichever port you used to start will be the port you can play on. You can press fire on the other port at any time to have a second player join in.
Neil and Chris can move left and right. The fire button shoots up a comically large bullet upwards.
Getting hit knocks off one block from the health meter, as well as make our heroes flail their arms in distress. If the health meter drops to zero, its game over for that player. If both players lose, the game boots you back to the title screen. But I gave myself infinite health earlier so I won't have to worry about that during this playthrough :)
There are twelve stages. Most of the stages take place on this Launderette screen:

On these Launderette stages, large gray rectangles attempt to squish our heroes. They are also impossible to shoot, leaving you with no choice to dodge them. After two stages of the Launderette screen, the game changes the stage to a different screen with different enemies. It switches back to the Launderette screen for another two stages, then to a new screen, and so on until the game ends. Here are all the unique stages.

It's the sleeve for the Love Comes Quickly single! Being rendered so minimalistic has somehow made Chris more ominous than he already was.

A bald, sunglasses-wearing man with a shirt that says "Video Fall". I'm not sure who this character is supposed to be, but he's throwing VHSs at us. Luckily these VHSs can be destroyed with a couple of shots, one of the few things that you can actually shoot.

The word UNFAIR is turned to its side, while a strange creature attacks our heroes. This stage isn't any more unfair than the other stages though, so I'm not sure what that's about.

I have no idea what this is supposed to be a picture of. It's possible that since Stage 3 was a picture of Chris that this might be a picture of Neil. But it's so mangled by pixelization that it's anyone's guess really.
Ending

The game ends rather unceremoniously after Stage 12. It rapidly flickers the words "THE END". After flashing it for a little while, the game loops back to Stage 1.
Truly, the best that gaming has to offer.
Part 2: Who is responsible for this
As I mentioned in the intro, the first part of this journey began with a youtube video of PSB Game's gameplay. IMO it's not as good as mine, but it did start me off on this entire journey, to which I must thank it.
After going through every stage of grief upon watching this video, I began searching for more information about this game. I found two Commodore 64 databases had entries for the game. Here is the Gamebase64 entry, and here is the CSDb entry.
What's the title of the game anyway?
You might have noticed that the game appears to go by several names. CSDb, the original youtube video we found, and the cracking team itself calls the game "Pet Shop Boys +6". But the Gamebase64 entry calls it "PSB Game - Pet Shop Boys", and the game's title screen simply calls it "PSB Game." To confuse this further, the Archive.org file has "+6" tacked on at the end of the file name. My best guess is that the +6 part is related to the cracker team themselves? If anyone knows Commodore 64 terminology can explain this, feel free to let me know. Update: I've learned that the "+6" attached to the title refers to the 6 cheats available to use on the cheat menu before the game loads. Here is a video that explains the concept in more detail. Personally, I've decided to go with the name PSB Game since it appears on the title screen.
Back to figuring out who made this
I realize it's a little bit late in this essay to point out that this game is a fan creation and completely unofficial. But uh, I thought I'd bring it up just in case.
The CSDb entry has little else other than the download link and credits the cracking team Riff Raffs (more about this in a bit) but has no credits for the game itself. The Gamebase64 entry gives us a little more information, noting the year it was published, as well as two names: Shaun Pearson. and Chris Yates.
Chris Yates is a red herring. As seen in the publishing info, PSB Game was created with SEUCK, which is an application that can be used to create shoot 'em up games. Chris Yates is one of the programmers for that application. Essentially, it's like if you credited a game made with RPG Maker as being created by RPG Maker itself.
That leaves us with Shaun Pearson.
Gamebase64 lets you search by creator. Searching for the name Shaun Pearson brings up a few results, mainly other SEUCK projects. What caught my attention was that they appear to have worked on a game as recently as 2020.
Now where this gets particularly interesting is that searching the same game on CSDb credits to user Wile Coyote instead. I'm not entirely certain if Wile Coyote is Shaun Pearson, but if they are, then they're active to this day. I'm not sure how to get into contact with them to confirm this because CSDb's forums were too confusing for me (I'm bad at technology I know), but if they are in fact the same, I think it's pretty cool to know that they're still active. If anyone can find me a way to contact them (or hey, if Shaun/Wile Coyote is currently reading this and want to contact me), feel free to reach out!
Part 3: Conclusion
As is, I think that's all there is that can be documented about the PSB Game. Before I go though, I do have a few requests.
One, if there is a physical copy of PSB Game laying around somewhere (unlikely, but you never know), I'd like to see a picture of it.
Two, if anyone knows how to rip C64 sprites, I'd love to have the sprite sheet for this game. Especially tiny pixel Chris and Neil flailing their arms.
And finally, Shaun, if you're reading this, I'd just like to say thank you so much for creating this strange little game. I had a blast uncovering it and learning a bunch about the C64 in the process. As I said, if you're willing to reach out, I'd love to hear more about this game from you!

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 27 total. I should have MORE.
2. What's your total A03 word count? 551,012 words.
3. What fandoms do you write for? The only fandoms I have written for as far as fanfiction goes is Grand Theft Auto 5 and Star Wars, though back in the day I used to RP all kinds of stuff with my friends in the good ole' AOL chatrooms. Pretty sure I also used to post to RP forums.

It may not be super longwinded or elaborate because I may not know what to say, but I always try to return a comment with a thank you at least, because they are very much appreciated.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Oh, I can't tell you because it isn't finished yet. >D In fact, I am a slut for angst. You can just go ahead and expect terrible things to happen if I'm writing it.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Hm, probably something with Shriv Suurgav, actually. He's a total sweetheart, and if I am in the mood for fluff, he is usually my go to. Better than Candy was always one of my favorites. You get what you want and Shriv gets a blowjob. ;D
8. Do you get hate on fics? Nope. So weird to see it happen to others. Like, what?
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Are you kiddddding? LOL That is basically all I write besides PWP - which is pretty much the same thing - angst/hurt, and sometimes a little comfort fic here and there. Though I am not sure what you mean by what "kind." I am all over the place.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? No. Not into it, really. AU's are a little different, but I like to still be as canon compliant as possible without deviating too far from the original characterization. Maybe they're more like silly little "Crack" scenarios.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I don't think so.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not to my knowledge.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not exactly, though I brainstorm and talk about Cad Bane and Hondo with my internet BBF like every fucking day nonstop ( we're obsessed ).
14. What's your all-time favourite ship? BANAKA! I will scream it from the rooftops, preach it from the pulpit, rub it in your faces (not really), and force you to see the perfect relationship that is Cad Bane x Hondo Ohnaka if it is the last thing I do. I also really like Cad Bane x Jango Fett, and Shriv Suurgav x Cad Bane, and even Shriv Suurgav x Poe Dameron. >D
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I want to finish all of them, but sometimes I wonder if I will get around to finishing "Handcuff Marks and Stubbleburn." I haven't been in a GTA V mood lately, but I really DO wanna finish All the wrong places. I can't just let it go at chapter 94. AHHHH.
16. What are your writing strengths? Characterization and descriptive language. Also not too shabby with dialogue and plot. I sort of just come up with shit as I go along by the seat of my pants. Sometimes, I will take a few notes down or make a rough outline, but that's about it.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Perfectionist. Being a little verbose on occasion, but honestly IDAGAF and write what I want.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I won't do it unless it is a "fake" language, such as Huttese or Durese. I am not above making up words and using context clues to figure out what a character is saying, such as Jabba the Hutt. They basically did that in the first three Star Wars movies. If we can deal with Chewie making his Wookiee sounds and using Han as a translator, I feel like it's fine to do it in a fic.
I think I tried to write ONE line in French to be funny, as Trevor Philips is French-Canadian, but I won't do so otherwise, and especially not in a serious context. Google translate isn't the most accurate, I hear.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Probably Hercules the Legendary Journey's or The Vampire Chronicles back in middle school.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written? Hmm.
I really liked writing Trigger Happy, which Cad Bane masturbates aboard his ship alone in the darkness of deep space, thinking about a warm, mammalian reader who is lightyears away...
I also really loved writing Better than Candy. I love writing for Shriv and his self-deprecating, jaded sense of humor. I wanted him to get a little "treat," and was quite happy with the results. I had the idea on the way home from work; I was sucking on a lollipop in traffic. >D

i love rdr2 as much as any other crazy teenage boy stan but because it's storyline is so good it overshadows GTA V story line since that's a cracking story

(He has long hair, small stubble, nose ring... Basically every fanarts interpretation of Trevor in the 80s).

Grand Theft Auto V, and its use of dynamic audio, by RPG.
For a decade old game, GTA V definitely stands tall within the other triple A titles released at that time; the attention to detail, whether it be with civilians who make the map lively to areas where you can explore without necessarily having to complete missions.
It is safe to say that audio is a huge part of GTA V, and its environment. Its in everything from the music that plays in cars to when civilians talk on the phone or to each other.
An example of a type of audio commonly used in games is dynamic audio, whereas you could walk into a room for example and music would get louder as you enter and quieter as you exit; this certainly is shown where you can hear the radio playing as you walk past certain buildings (and the songs are dependent on the area you are in on the map, making it even more unique and attentive to detail). The radio stations in game are sometimes divided, for example having specific radio stations for specific areas or zones; two examples of these are Radio Mirror Park and Still Slipping (Radio Mirror Park being focused in and around the Mirror Park area and Still Slipping having a very small radius just outside of Mirror Park and within East Los Santos.
Another element of audio is when characters interact with each other while passing by each other, this could be considered dynamic because it retains within GTAV's atmosphere. Civilians have varying voices, varying voice lines and different ways of approaching things; which makes the game unique in a way that it represents the lesser cared-about details within the game.
Additionally, it wouldn't be fair to not add the use of dynamic emergency siren audio; when a police car or multiple police cars are responding, you will either hear the singular one or a doppler effect of all of them together which is also variable to the distance at which they are positioned from the player.
Some very small details about GTA Vs weirdly unique and expansive dynamic audio that nobody really notices:
The use of faint car revving sounds, and the sounds of honking when in larger metropolitan areas.
Distant shooting and explosions, with bullet cracks and whizzes.
Faint but noticeable wind sounds when near wind turbines, open areas or up high.
Walking sounds dependent on surface; for example squelches when in wet mud.
Some NPCs sometimes get annoyed, and some randomly insult you; another weird detail about GTA which makes it...GTA.
Conclusively, I think the way GTA has implemented audio makes it just that more realistic; and helps build a nice and lively atmosphere to roam around in.

i've had a lovely week. the danish housemate who lives in the room next to mine has been away since last friday. i haven't had to hear him smacking his keyboard so hard the walls shake, or hear his restless shuffling and stomping in his gamer chair, or hear him yell and grunt and fake cry and cough and moan and plead for mercy from his daily 6+ hour GTA V roleplay sessions, in which he apparently plays as an old sickly man who always speaks in a very high voice to the point his voice is barely cracking and whose store gets violently robbed on a daily basis, for over a week. it's been idyllic. i have been in a good mood every day knowing i wouldn't have to try to block out the noise after 4pm.
unfortunately he came home today. and is right back on his roleplaying. it's already been 6 hours of it today. he might still go on for another 3.
i hope he chokes on his next food order
