Annabeth Chase Fanart: Clothing

Caryatid Statue in the Erechtheion, 400 BCE

Drawing clothing has always been pretty difficult for me, so I studied ancient Greek statues for help. The Greeks put great care into carving statues, so it’s easy to understand how these fabrics were draped on the human body. This particular statue is wearing a “peplos” body-length garment and a “kolpos” for the top. I painted Annabeth in a similar fashion, but ended up customizing it as I went along.

I am about to have another surgery and needed some childlike creativity to help me process the impending pain, recovery and other horrid grown-up stuff. So I went to the LEGO store at the local mall and made these mini figurines. SO MUCH FUN. Me and a bunch of 7 year olds who took me very seriously and helped me find the right teapot heads and stripy tops in the perfect shade of blue.
