honestly. half the fun of fantasy aus for me is the Food Descriptions

just had a pastel de nata so fresh and hot and flaky and creamy that i think it's changing/saving my life a little bit. like even beyond the fact that it's 2am in the morning it is just Really Good

#and its not even from a pastry place or anything i had v low expectations since i just got some as a side for my burger #the burger was also great it had not enough vegetables but i just took bites of lettuce and pickle in between so it worked out #hated the onion rings but rarely are they all winners. 10/10 meal regardless

I've seen other people say the season 5 finale felt fan service-ish. They're so right saying that.

I don’t know what fans it’s servicing, because it’s certainly not anyone on tumblr.

I think it’s Bones-service, because the only people in the world who have no complaints are those over at studio Bones (no hate towards the animators though, they worked so hard and deserve a hundred raises)

I’ve reached a milestone at the coffeeshop I go to every Sunday.  They know my name!  I’ve finally become a Regular™.  My latte and croissant:

It’s funny.  The cardinal is the state bird of my home state of Ohio, but I see SO MANY in Kansas.  I have an app that’s pretty good at identifying bird calls, and 9 times out of 10, it’s a cardinal.  

Along the trails, there are some nice spots for you to sit and take in the view.  I just thought this scene was pretty.

I have found a new favorite bird.  A blue-gray gnatcatcher!  The are so TINY and ADORABLE.  They also like to hop around and not stay still, lol.

I ALSO SAW A NEW BIRD!!!  A rose-breasted grosbeak.

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this here but I’m a Mexican-American currently studying to be a pastry chef. Why do I suddenly bring this up? Because I just watched “Mexican Week” in the Great British Bake Off. Overall, I just feel greatly disappointed. This show was one of my inspirations to go into this career path. Sadly. I expected more. It takes one google search to find hundreds of amazing delicious rich baked goods that would’ve been great to highlight. Instead they didn’t do any of that. They made no effort in giving Mexican baking the respect or praise it deserves for it unique techniques, flavors, and qualities that is only seen in Mexico.

I know that some of you will argue that they just didn’t know and that they didn’t mean to offend people, but that’s no excuse. They just didn’t care. They make such a huge effort in highlighting the baking history and techniques for other cultures like French and Germany. Just because they aren’t familiar with it doesn’t mean that they can’t google it, hell, hire a Mexican pastry chef to  consult and provide advice to the production and crew. There is no excuse that in the year 2022 something like this should be acceptable.

However, from all of this, I have been inspired once again. I’m making a promise to myself to study and give Mexican baking the respect it deserves. I’ll make it my goal to prove to people that Mexican baking is worth the effort to learn and isn’t just a stupid gimmick. So maybe call that a win.
