Zonnia Pokedex: Larvader, Grisalis, and Scornery
Larvader
Tripwire Pokemon Bug / Poison Wurmple + Venipede
Appearance
Larvader are cylindrical insect Pokemon, grub-like and measuring a foot and a half in length. Plates of glossy dark red carapace run along this Pokemon's back, stretching forward over the top of the head like a horn, and reaching all the way to the tip of its tail, where it forms two smaller spikes. When Larvader curl up, the underside of their body's front and back halves press together, creating a thick covering of carapace with little access to the softer inner body.
Aside from the red carapace, Larvader's body is purple, and rough to the touch but not particularly tough. The underside of the Pokemon is cream-coloured, though it's often difficult to see this. More visible are the two cream-coloured circles that appear on the Pokemon's sides - one on each. These circles are hollow, with the regular purple colouring within them.
Larvader have a collection of small feet along the length of their body, ten in full total. These feet are simple black curved points, and are used more for gripping to surfaces than moving with speed. The head of Larvader consists of two dark yellow eyes, with circular black irises, and a slightly pointed beak-like shape to their mouth. Inside the mouth is a pair of fangs, emerging from the upper lip and pointing downwards.
Ecology
Larvader are another species primarily located within the Zonnia Basin, with the Pokemon embracing the uncommon role of a Bug-type with a low reproduction and high survival rate. Larvader are born singularly, often with no more than one from a mated pair of Scornery per year. And while the survival rate for this Pokemon itself is middling, once it achieves its first evolution a long life is almost entirely guaranteed.
Slow to move by traditional means, Larvader navigate dense underbrush and bury themselves in fallen foliage, before shooting out a thin strand of thread from their mouths to attach to a nearby tree or rock. This thread then serves as a tripwire - any other creature making contact with it alerting Larvader to potential prey.
When Larvader does sense contact with its thread, it immediately shoots out a much thicker mass along the same angle, aiming to strike whatsoever touched its thread. On connection, Larvader will then reel in the thread, causing either the target to be pulled to it or, more often, it to be pulled towards its target.
Curling up, so that its armour plating almost entirely protects it, Larvader will bite down upon prey as soon as it is within reach, releasing a paralytic venom from its fangs. This venom is slow-acting, requiring continuous injection for a proportional period of time to the target's prey, but thanks to its armour protecting it Larvader are not easily motivated to release their bite and give up.
Once its prey is fully paralysed, Larvader will use its sticky thread to wrap and bind them, slowly dragging them to a nearby storehouse of all collected prey. Once it has enough, Larvader will cocoon itself surrounded by its tightly bound prey and begin the process of evolution into Grisalis.
Field Report
While Larvader's hunting mechanism can be intimidating, it is its hard armour that grants the species long-term survival prospects far more than its actual predatory nature. Larvader don't discriminate in going on the assault once their tripwire is triggered, leading to the Pokemon often attempting to bite down on a Tempersuer or Ribbishine - both of which being species more than willing to consume an errant Larvader - as much as a Khorusect or Gracehopper - which are far more the regular prey a Larvader is interested in.
The Pokemon's slow movements similarly make it easy to steal prey from for larger species, with Impecki quick to raid a Larvader's hoard if given the opportunity. As for personal defence, in the case that one is wandering the Zonnia Basin without the protection of Pokemon that could easily drive off a Larvader - not recommended - it takes time for the paralytic agent to be effective against humans and one has more than enough time to grasp a wieldable rock or branch and stun the Pokemon by banging against the top of its carapace head. While it should be treated after the fact, thanks to its paralytic agent Larvader's bite does not hurt in the moment.
The Zonnia Region boasts numerous Bug-type Pokemon, allowing for specialists of such to thrive. The final evolution of Larvader, Scornery, is a high-speed Pokemon able to compete with other members of Zonnia's fastest such as Dij'igenesis, Furnacede, and Erupture, thus motivating Trainers to raise it. Larvader raised by Trainers should be given the same opportunities as those in the wild to build storehouses of trussed up food - it is just that the food does not need to be captured alive for this Pokemon as it is in the wild.

Just to hop in on the embarrassing writing train I once started to write (when I was very young) a story about two gracehoppers that basically was a Romeo and Juliet retelling but I also hadn’t known anything about Romeo and Juliet
that’s cute i did something like that when i was in elementary school most of the stories i wrote where like the first page of a first chapter. because until i was 14 and voluntarily when to a writing class, i thought that because i have dysgraphia i was bad writer. which is a lie
I thought I heard a clatter below us
*-Wait, X, do you hear that?
I asked hoping that it was just me X looked around the room everyone else was sill sleeping. There was a massive crash,
his eyes enlarged to the size of hockey pucks
“They re here”
he whispered voice shaking I fell backwards onto Ari.

Zonnia Pokedex: Gracehopper and Locurst
Gracehopper
Grasshopper Pokemon Bug Murkrow + Skwovet
Appearance
Gracehopper are small, insectoid Pokemon with long bodies and notably pronounced hind legs. Reaching up to a foot in length, the body of Gracehopper consists of three specific segments: a triangular-shaped head, a cylindrical thorax, and a long tapering abdomen that ends in two points. Gracehopper are covered in a carapace shell which is green all over, besides a dark brown-black underbelly. Key features of Gracehopper also boast yellow colouration, which will be identified in the description below.
The head of Gracehopper, which has a triangular shape with the flat side at the top and tip pointed downward, has a pair of eyes, antenna, and external jaws. The eyes of Gracehopper are circular and black, with a white circles within them. The edge of these eyes has yellow colouration, making them appear larger. The antenna of Gracehopper are flat and rectangular, sticking up from the top of the Pokemon's head and ending in two points on each. The points of these antenna are yellow, while the larger part is green. The jaws of Gracehopper curve out and around from the base of the Pokemon's head, forming a circular shape.
The thorax of Gracehopper is the largest part of the Pokemon's body, from which its legs emerge. Gracehopper's six legs come in three pairs of increasing size: the frontal pair which act as hands for the Pokemon, the middle pair which stretch directly out from the Pokemon's body and assist in climbing and attachment to surfaces, and the rear pair that stretch along the Pokemon's length and is used for powerful leaps. Each leg has the same basic shape: a significant joint at the 'knee' which causes the leg to bend downwards, forming an upside-down 'V' shape, and a slightly hooked foot. Gracehopper do not have wings, and rely on jumping as their primary means of moving any notable distance. A number of yellow circles occur along the thorax of Gracehopper's shell, with variable positions unique to the individual. In addition, each 'knee' of Gracehopper is defined by a yellow round node.
The abdomen of Gracehopper is of equal length to its thorax, tapering to a two-tipped point. These two tips are defined by two distinct ridges that run along the underside of Gracehopper's abdomen, while the top of the abdomen is smooth. The green-colour of Gracehopper changes to yellow as it reaches these tips.
Ecology
Gracehopper are a Pokemon that occupy one of the lowest rungs of the food chain in the Zonnia Region, being a species that is both diverse in habitat and quick in reproduction. Many other species of Zonnian Pokemon predate upon Gracehopper to a large degree, and thus the Pokemon exists as one of the backbone species of the Region.
Strictly herbivorous, Gracehopper eat all manner of plant matter - including but not limited to: leaf, flower, fruit, root, stem, vine, bark, wood chip, and sap. Despite this impressively varied diet, the Pokemon itself is not particularly voracious, and a Gracehopper that settles upon a single plant it favours could stay with that plant unthreatened for weeks to months. The Pokemon are loosely communal, and communicate with one another by rubbing their hind-legs along the side and underside of their abdomen. By this manner Gracehopper reassure one another that things are fine where they are, and generally eat alone knowing there are others nearby eating as well.
Being an easy-going Pokemon, Gracehopper often appear as team-members of fresh Pokemon Trainers, lacking significant drive to avoid others. It is this nature that also makes Gracehopper easy prey for many other species, however the Pokemon is prolific in reproduction, and so the species itself remains in consistent numbers within the Zonnia Region, barring the interference of its evolution, which will be discussed in its relevant article.
Gracehopper reproduce in response to the monsoon season of the Zonnia Region, delaying or advancing their breeding cycles based on the arrival of the great rains that raise the Three Great Rivers over the spring and summer months. While they cannot fly, Gracehopper are surprisingly effective travellers, and can move to other areas within the Zonnia Region with impressive ease. While a majority of the species are found relative to the waterways of Zonnia - the Zonnia Basin and Hanuri Wetlands especially - they reproduce around any water source, and the rains of Zonnia's monsoons do not discriminate in where they fall. Thus with each year's rains, Gracehopper flourish, and so too do those species that consider them prey.
Field Report
Gracehopper have long served as symbols of blessing and vitality within the Zonnia Region, owing to their appearance across the Region following rains, and the thriving of species that predate upon them. In both physical and oral inheritances from previous civilisations of the Region, the importance of Gracehopper as a symbol of Zonnia's health is made mention.
The greater cultural implications of Gracehopper are tied into its evolution, Locurst, and its own position in symbology as a sign of destruction wrought by overplenty. Gracehopper are seen as a blessing, while Locurst represent “too much of a good thing” becoming bad. While many other species of Zonnian Pokemon are more flashy and exciting, few compare to the magnitude of impact upon Zonnia's cultural and biological development as Gracehopper and Locurst, who have provided the definition of careful moderation in the environment, care and observation of nature, sustenance and development of numerous species of predator Pokemon, and no small amount of parables and folktales around the consequence of unchecked consumption.
Pokemon Trainers who raise Gracehopper will find them evolving into Locurst in due time, however the evolved Pokemon are, generally, of similar temperament, having evolved from experience and training as opposed to a biological swarm trigger. Neither Pokemon is particularly strong, however they are quick, and some few Bug-type experts of the Zonnia Region have shown notable accomplishments using this Pokemon.
