Percabeth antis grind my gears so much because they never hate Percy, nono, even though he's arguably done more questionable stuff than Annabeth. Not everyone who hates her is doing so because of a mlm ship— the Perachel stans claim that Annabeth is a misogynist. However, basically everyone that isn't trying to ship her boyfriend with Rachel is trying to ship him with Jason, Nico, or her old friend Luke. They make her out to be this horrible abusive girlboss(derogatory) that she's simply... not. She doesn't insult Percy for having ADHD just because she's highly intelligent. She doesn't physically abuse him, and doesn't lay a finger on him outside of training. She's really devoted to him in a non-anti-feminist way. They just hate her for 'getting in the way' of Nico's convoluted attraction to Percy, or Jason's close friendship with him, or Luke's rivalry with him. But those relationships all flourish the way they were intended by the author: non-romantically. It's not Annabeth's fault for being intelligent or capable or jokingly snide or determined or any of those non-stereotypically-feminine qualities. She's just out here existing and people hate her for not being a man. Sorry for the rant.

She's canonically in a relationship with Percy Jackson for most of the books they're in, but he often gets paired in canon with other male characters, such as Nico di Angelo or Jason Grace. In fan fiction (especially yaoi focused ones) she's characterized as being a stuck up know it all, but she gets into plenty of shenanigans in canon and can be pretty goofy and sweet!

Her husband is gay and her author doesn't know how to write women. So many people say she's the worst but she. DESERVES. BETTER!!! Save her from this franchise.

Its well known now that Book 7 will heavily imply familial messages and from what we seen with Shroud Family so far, is that they were very communicative and supportive of each other in the loving way possible.

i am a new high school teacher and i would love to hear from you about how you feel like teachers could improve handling your accommodations! it’s a tough system to get any benefit from as a student and i want to make it easier at my school!

im going to assume youre talking about the whole english class thing bc that's what i've been talking about lately lol. in case you didn't catch the whole thing, basically what happened is i missed a day of school bc of a field trip and on the day that i missed we were scheduled to finish the book we'd been reading and in one of the last couple chapters there was a really graphic description of csa. my teacher is really great and always gives warnings for anything potentially triggering in anything we were going to read but again i didn't hear the warnings. anyways next day i came in and started to finish the book, she didn't notice i was reading it so she didn't warn me, and i was totally caught off guard by the whole thing. i actually only read three words of the first paragraph that started the description but it was enough to trigger a really awful flashback in the middle of class lmfao. so i had a panic attack in class, my teacher was very nice about it, she let me leave class and was sorta talking me through it (and sent my best friend to find me in second period after i couldn't find him first period), etc etc. next day i got my teacher to skip past the description, tried to keep reading from there but it was mentioned a couple times after and i had another panic attack. she was very nice about it again, asked me about my birds to distract me, and then told me the ending bc i couldnt finish the book. anyways she wanted to show the movie adaptation of the book and it's pretty faithful to the book so she let me go somewhere else so i don't have to see it. anyways. idk. it's a lot easier to identify the accommodations teachers should take when they don't take them lol. but idk just. believe the students. like just never assume students are doing whatever in bad faith or are actively trying to make your life hard. some of us are at different levels of maturity so just never treat us like children even if you see some of us act like children (including those that are acting like children. it won't help to disrespect them). accommodations like the ones i'm getting to prevent further flashbacks n things like that really aren't hard to deal with. we're trying our best, we're still very new to the world, "problem kids" have way more problems than what they're making for you, you have no idea what else we're dealing with at home, socially, or in other classes, and high school is probably the hardest thing (academically at least) most of us have ever done. don't treat us like children but keep in mind that we're still learning. i'm very open about the reasons i need my accommodations but a lot of people aren't, so if someone says they can't/don't want to read a book or watch a movie and they won't tell you why, don't treat them like they're trying to get out of doing work. give them an alternative. it usually works out

"Yeah, its just Nat just called and told me they might have a plan on how to take down Thanos, and she wanted me to go with them to his garden to collect the stones." He exhales softly as he puts his phone on the table and sits down. "I just don't think its a good idea that I leave you here by yourself like this."

She was due to come home that afternoon so you looked up and asked “Hey Jarvis, any status on Nat and when she’ll be home?”. “Good afternoon Agent Y/L/N, the quinjet should land in about 10 minutes. Agent Romanoff however seems to be in some state of panic, her heart rate is elevated and her breathing fast and uneven. Would you like me to alert Dr. Banner?”, the AI answered and your smile fell.

Once you grabbed one of her hoodies and threw it on before you quickly walked to the landing pad. You were pacing nervously until you saw the quinjet. Once it landed you waited patiently for Nat to come out, scared to see in what condition Nat would be.

As she slowly walked out you could already see that she was pretty shaken up but did thankfully not seem as panicky anymore. Whatever happened on the mission hit her hard. Eventhough you’ve been a couple for over a year already you’ve never seen her in that state. Almost like she lost all of her self control so you knew you had to be careful about your next steps.

Walking to her slowly you said softly “Hey Natty”. You could see her green eyes finding yours as she tried to give you a small smile, stopping in front of you. She seemed smaller than usual. “Can I touch you?”, you asked not ready to take any risks in her fragile state.

Hesitation crossed her face for a moment before she nodded slowly. It broke your heart to see her like this. You gently laid your hands on her arms and rubbed them softly, feeling her shaking under your touch. “Come on let’s get you inside”, you whispered and pressed a light kiss to her head before walking her inside.

As you reached the common area you shot the others a glare and shook your head before they could even say something. She didn’t need any comments from the others that would upset her even more right now. Tony closed his mouth again and gave you a small nod, knowing better than to mess with you when it came to Nat.

As you reached your shared room you helped her take off her jacket and saw that she was bleeding at her shoulder and side. Looking into her eyes you asked “Tasha you’re bleeding. Can I take care of them?”. Natasha’s eyes found yours as she shot you a confused look at first and only then realizing she was hurt. She nodded softly and let you guide her into the bathroom.

Nat watched you carefully as you made her sit on the closed toilet seat and got out the first aid kid. She could never tell you how much she appreciated your gentleness and carefulness. Once you cleaned her wounds, them thankfully not being that deep so you could just patch them up you brought her back to bed and helped her change into a pair of your pjs.

Getting some water for her you squatted down in front of her and handed her the bottle as you asked “Can you have some water for me?”. She took the bottle and drank a few sips before giving the bottle back to you with shakey hands. Placing it aside you took her hands in yours and asked softly “Can you tell me what happened Natty?”.

You didn’t wanna pressure her but her behavior worried you to say the least.

It took her a minute, playing with your fingers and getting herself ready to open up. You just let your hand go limp in hers knowing playing with your finger brought her the comfort she needed right now.

„It was more or less a trap. I got in without many problems but they knew I was there. On the way out I was exposed to some synthetic gas, a new weapon from hydra. I could hear the voice from one of them telling me that I’m about to relive my worst nightmares and Y/N he was right“, she started and I could tell it was bringing her relief but also pain to talk about it. Tears built up in her eyes as she continued „“I saw all of the faces from the people I’ve killed. Kids starring at me innocently before I killed them. All of the pain that I managed to forget from the red room washed up again. I somehow made my way out but it reminded me of how much red is still in my ledger“.

It broke your heart as she said that. Sitting down next to her you took her into your arms and gently dried her tears as you calmed her down. Once she was a little calmer you took her face in your hands and said „Natasha, I need you to listen to me now okay? All of this is in the past. Yes you did bad things then but you’ve done more good. You wiped out all of the red in your ledger as brought down the red room. It’s clean and you’re a good person. I’m sorry they made you go through that again but I need you to know that this is not who you are anymore“.

You could tell that Nat needed those more than she’d ever admit. „Thank you“, she mumbled and you gently kissed her forehead. You could tell that it helped but she was exhausted and still a little shaken up. Dwelling on the topic wouldn’t help so you suggested „How about I make some tea now and then we’ll cuddle up in bed and watch a movie?“.

Nat just nodded at that so you pressed another kiss to her forehead and quickly made your way into the kitchen to get her her favorite kind of tea and her favorite snacks. Once back in your room you cuddled up in bed together Nat in your arms as you put on her favorite movie.

You knew from the start that she wouldn’t last through the whole movie but as Nat realized she couldn’t fight off the exhaustion much longer she slowly moved out of your arms and said „I’ll probably have nightmares tonight. Maybe you should sleep somewhere else, you need your sleep“.

However you were having nothing of it. Taking her face in your hands you looked her deep in the eyes and said „Listen Natty. I’m not going anywhere. I’ll always be here for you and if you’ll have nightmares tonight I’ll be there to calm you and comfort you. I don’t care if I won’t get much sleep tonight. I promised you the day we got together that I’ll always keep you safe even if its from the demons that haunt you at night. I’m not breaking that promise. I’ll keep you safe, I’m not leaving“.

A sleepy smile appeared on Nat’s lips as she said „I know, you’re my safe place. I love you. Thank you“. She cuddled deep into your arms and you wrapped your arms tightly around her as you mumbled „Always, I love you more“.

You felt her smile into your chest before you kissed her forehead and she fell asleep. You couldn’t feel happier that she felt safe with you, helping you rest easier as you drifted of as well, ready to face whatever the night will bring.

i take a Lot out of the book "sun circles and human hands: the southeastern indians - art and industry" (2001 edition, not the 1957 one) which i have a physical copy of and i have sticky notes tabbing out out and also annotated highlighting every mention of the chickasaw and of sites where i know the chickasaw [or our ancestors, like the chicaza and other early mississippian/SE ntv cultures] so i can reference stuff i know would be from us, but i also take inspiration from all the designs in it because we were all a part of an interconnected cultural network of art

if you are from a tribe that would be from mississippian culture or the southeastern ceremonial complex/southeastern cult as it used to be called, or you know your people wouldve come from places within that like spiro or moundville, and you want to bring more native styling into your art this is THEEE book i would recommend. it is insanely useful. i cant vouch 100% for the text of it, and the second half is mostly kinda grainy b&w scanned photos of pottery and other items lmao, but the first half has lineart depictions OF designs found, with the attribution for the site they were found at. it is a Massive wealth of symbols and style and has been the best thing for wanting to study and emulate SE ndn art. for real i lent a copy to my grandma and then couldnt find where it was and i had to just order a new copy bc i use it so damn much

like i would post pages of it, and before i bought it i survived off the pinterest pics of scanned pages, but i cannot say enough just buy the book and look through it bc its just perfect its so useful. just posting a few pages doesnt do any justice to the wealth of style and art in it. ive tried to make myself some mock style/symbol guides from it, but even those fail to capture the variety of stuff in there and its why i still have it on hand for reference bc every time i get stumped theres so many ideas in there

i had done sinti homma, the red snake earlier, and i wanted to do a little motley of other simple transparent animals to go with it. so i did! ive got a few different animals that i played with doing, but a lot of them ended up veering too much off of the more hardline ntv style i wanted to do, and the others didnt fit the guideline i had made - i wanted them all to have a pointed tail that pointed to some corner of the frame, and curl around in the square a bit to have more of a sense of motion. i was thinking deer, turtle, spider... but none of those really fit that. so i flipped thru SC&HH for some ideas and came up with some :3

the bottom left one on the first pic there gave me a good idea of what to do with a rat tail, and on the bottom right of that same pic is the Fattest fucking fish and i lifted a lot of that design to use for my fish (and while we're here, the rattler tails on the top right of that pic were what i used for sinti hommas tail), and the bottom left on the second pic gave me the idea for the lizards legs/feet shape, and then i used the chickasaw vocab flashcards of animals to think of animal ideas and so i used the pinti from there to jump me off into doing a rat

theyre all named after the chickasaw words - sinti (snake), shunti (rat/rodent), kanunuk (lizard, specifically green striped lizard, which is why i made it green with stripes lol), nunni (fish) . i use the chickasaw dictionary webpage a lot these days though i should use my dictionary copies more bc they use the spelling style i dont prefer lol

i also want to do maybe a sort of pop art style big print of them, like repeated with different colors behind them? and/or them in a medicine wheel? but those are still wip so we shall see!

Leverage Log: The Long Goodbye

So here we are, at the end of the line. Lets see how this story's original run ended. --- Oh we're stealing a cure for Sam's disease. And a picture of a Sam-aged child as well, give Nate the chance to fix his greatest failure. And just in case the audience didnt figure it out yet, Sophie spells it out to Hardison. --- Ok so the problem isnt the company, its the building they store stuff in being shared with FBI CIA and Interpol servers and everything is classified to high heaven. Also coms are being blocked.

Oh its the return of SuperAI, one of only 3 things they never defeated (alongside Sterling and the Supermarket chain as a whole). Sophie is going to book the theatre next door for her Macbeth play. Parker knows something is wrong when Nate doesnt go on a self-destructive rampage for this one.

Nate and Sophie kiss --- Back to the interrogation, we get a fake-out line (Nate is trying to convince his interrogater the con went South. or at least further South then it actually did)

Everything about this scene screams fake. And i mean both Nate and the Interrogator are lying. I've seen Nate fake enough hospitalbeds and interrogationrooms to know when one is being faked. ---

Nate reasuring Sophie that the play is part of the Con cause he knows its the secret to unlocking her powers.

They beat the steranko with the power of social engineering. --- Call back to the elevator clothing change in episode 1.

Hardison falls down the elevator. (remember, this is not what actually happened, this is the lie Nate is spinning to his interogator. Who disapointingly, isnt Sterling. Feels like he should be in the season finale) Cop carries a back-up around their knee and shoots Elliot (might have really shot him, but no way that standard cops carry shoeguns)

We're at the bridge and Parker Hardison and Elliot are dead in Flashback!Nate's memories.

Nate and sophie pull a Thelma and Louise and try the bridge-jump, car stalls on the bridge. --- Interrogation, Nate slams the table with his fists. Interrogator claims the identity of Hardison Parker and Elliot have been confirmed from the bodybags. (not like we havent faked a corpse ID before).

She leaves him, she goes to verify Elliot definitly got shot but no way a tiny shoegun is gonna beat kevlar.

She thinks they entered through the elevator shaft (my guess: they didnt, elevator is their exit. The CCTV footage of elliot getting shot is a fake) and feigned a roof access with the balloon.

Their real goal is the data on the server as well, or at least its a side-goal. (not saying nate gave up on the cure, but the cloud itself?) Interrogator admits its not a hospital room, asks what told Nate. He goes full Sherlock.

Flashback shows Parker hacking into servers (cause of course). Turns out apparently she did break in through the elevatortunnel (i still say thats a getaway, must've been a third entrance im not thinking of.) Did i just notice a shot from within a vent during Sterlings entrance? Parker is watching. --- Wait is Nate stealing the 2008 financial crisis? Thats what they're stealing. The ultimate "and the adventure continues"storyhook.

"Justice or Order, and one day you're going to have to make that choice". 9/10, guess that Interogator isnt Nate's mark Jim is, he's priming him to betray Interpol.

Turns out this is the real reason they moved to Portland. Nate had Hardison track down the weakest link in the cloud so they could steal the cloud. They're stealing THE CLOUD, and making it look credible.

The lock is biometric. But its also a STERANKO, Parker and Hardison couldnt crack it, so they're tricking Jim into opening it to get to Parker who isnt in there. The rest of the team is alive and pretending to be Interpol. Jim just opened their doors. If the file only entered the server now that means they're stealing it now otherwise they'd have mistimed the entire heist (and they're too good at that) --- Thats a convincing fake Hardison... but Jim sees through it instantly.

Sophie didnt go on stage (of course she didnt), which means she was the one performing when Investigator went to the theatre. Nate was Shooty GunGuy. Parker entered as a detective (the ballon was real) I maintain the elevator is their exit.

Anyone reached by phone was Sophie, (im stupid for not realising that sooner) I was right (they faked a failed heist to get Jim to open the servers). I was also right about the tunnels being the exit not the entry. Interrogator thinks our heroes will escape in the audience, they're actually actors.

Jim isnt stupid, "now we're even, tell Sophie to drive carefully"

"actually, Justice is always easy". Simple line, 8.75/10 --- Nate is gonna propose.

"you have always had my back... Now, be on my side" great line. 10/10.

"Did you steal it?" "No... but I'll steal the first aniversary ring" Nate knows he's fucked up, (seriously Nate, you're better then this.)

And we get an answer to the "Sophie's real name" mystery. (Laura, except it isnt) --- And we're back to the Original Leverage Speech, given by Parker (affirming my suspicion that she was Nate's successor.)

--- Good season finale. Nate is alive, Leverage International is a thing? (i dont actually know what it means, but i think i'll see when we get to the reboot series) and the adventure continues.

Gonna get myself a little break for now. But will definitely go for the sequel series at some point in the (probably very near) future.

slavery tw, rape tw, and pedophilia tw just thinking on something that i once wrote about and to this day am appalled and angered by

so probably like 5-ish years ago i got so furious with my history textbook's "good slave owner" angle that i willingly wrote an entire paper (which i turned into my teacher to look over) about the dynamics between slave owners and the enslaved. title was "Romanticization of Slave Narratives: Why Slaves Couldn't Consent to Their Masters." looking back it wasnt the most comprehensive but doing the research for it was so fucking miserable because of how ubiquitous the belief that there were good slave owners is. the most fucking anger and rage inducing is the recorded life and depictions of Sally Hemings, a woman owned by thomas jefferson (yes the "i oppose slavery" thomas jefferson who btw at one point owned over 500 people). like the reality of her position and status as an enslaved girl to an increasingly more politically powerful man is so often fucking ignored? theres an instance where jefferson sent for Sally (who i should mention is also his wife's half-sister) to accomopany his daughter to see him in france. at the time slavery was illegal in france, which left a great many idiotic white people to ask "well why didnt she leave? 🤨 if she really didnt want to be with him she would have left and not gone back to america with him". conveniently forgetting that at the time she was 14 years old and returned to the states pregnant.

a child who has spent her entire life enslaved, who now finds herself pregnant is supposed to run away in a foreign country to "prove" that she wasnt okay with being regarded as fucking property? like the narratives around this are so fucking disgusting because so many sites and books and biographies say "was this rape? who knows..." in regards to her "relationship" continuing until his death. but how is it not fucking obvious that it was rape?? we have like. laws and stuff (maybe youve heard of them) where we say that a child cannot legally consent to intimate relations with an adult even if they say they were willing because of the power dynamics at play. a 14 year old supposedly can consent to having a relationship with a man 30 years her senior (who legally OWNS her) that would result in multiple pregnancies and being essentially confined to one room in a house for the rest of her life?

like even IF he didnt legally own her (which shouldnt be ignored considering even if she was an adult at the time he first assaulted her my argument is the same that she could not consent) their dynamics would obviously be considered grooming. she had no fucking agency at any point and the question of "did they love each other" DOES NOT MATTER! it doesnt matter if he loved her or she loved him, because at the end of the day she was his slave! she couldnt actually consent because her safety was no guaranteed if she refused. she also couldnt consent because once again she was a child. white americans want sooooooo desperately for the image of the founding fathers to be squeaky clean and their faults minimized that they just ignore obvious evidence that suggests the contrary. and theyll rewrite history to have people believe that they were good, moral men. did you know that there was a miniseries called "sally hemings: an american scandal" that used to be called "...an american love story"? real great stuff, thanks for that sam neil

like for gods sake the fact that is still to this day even a debate as to whether or not it was consensual is getting tiring because it views consent in this context as just whether or not Sally said "yes" to him. viewing consent as just a "yes or no" situation is 1. an enduring part of rape culture and 2. so incredibly, astoundingly ignorant of the true nature of slavery. many historians and creators of media are so willing to let their adultification bias shape their view of the situation. a white girl in her position would undoubtibly be viewed today as a victim, but a black girl? she was mature enough, surely. and then to add insult to injury she gets victim blamed for not leaving or ending the relationship! god! the misogynoir is astounding really!

the lies white people tell themselves about chattel slavery have just become tiring at this point. how did i, as a black child, have a better understanding of the dynamics of slavery better than a white historian?

How many books did you read this year? Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones? I am currently at 156 books read out of my GR goal of 80, so I met and surpassed my goal by a lot but i include DNFs and this year i read a Lot of short books, several short poetry collections, more graphic novels than i normally do, etc

Did you DNF anything? Why? What is the most over-hyped book you read this year? Yeah lol. If i get bored if a book if something shitty happens if a book is lame etc etc. I started the year desperate for Any book to catch my interest and wasted a lot of time reading very bad romance books recommended by various instagram reels. basically all of the really dumb ig reels romance books that had bad plots annoying characters and a million fans saying it was SoOoOo SwOoOoOnY is most overhyped to Me.

Did you reread anything? What? Notable rereads includes: keturah and lord death by martine leavitt (fun but cheesy as always), book lovers by emily henry (less enjoyable but still good), and Nimona by N.D. Stevenson (which i reread for the first time since i read it in tumblr webcomic format and for the most part held up even if my recollection of what the story was and how it ended was Not Accurate)

Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to? Yeag,. I have So Many books i intended to read but either didnt want to start at the wrong time, couldnt find, or just like. Wanted to But Didnt Want to Read.

Any books that disappointed you? yeah lots. one that was annoyingly disappoint was happy place by emily henry bc shes normally a reliable Fun RomCom Author for me but i just could not get into it at all the whole premise annoyed me the characters were annoying etc etc etc. it was annoying bc i knew the plot didnt interest me at all but i was still giving it a chance bc shes a reliable author but then i hated it. there were a few others that i was excited for bc they sounded thoughtful and weird and then they were just shallow and derivative. OH and bitter medicine by mia tsai! i wanted to like it so much and large chunks of it were reallllly good but the swapping pov was just annoying and the main characters felt inconsistent depending on whether they were the pov or not. and the relationship didnt develop well which was annoying bc i really wanted to like it. the girl who fell beneath the sea by axie oh was one that i was really enjoying until the conclusion and then i was like. Oh Okay Guess That Was The Ending, which was Very Annoying to experience lol. oh also not really disappointing comma bad book but disappointing comma not for me was I'll Go On by Hwang Jungeun which just wasnt the type of story i like wasnt enough like one hundred shadows (which, my enjoyment of that one was the only reason i tried it)

What books do you want to finish before the year is over? i have 29 books on my currently reading and i do Not think im finishing most of them before end of year and there are a bunch on there that should be on my year end best list but im just. not gonna finish. this includes stuff ranging from the idiot by elif batuman, untold day and night by bae suah, open city by teju cole, house of cotton by monica brashears, and like. a lot more lol. Trust by Hernan Diaz is on my year end list and my currently reading.....

Did any books surprise you with how good they were? One Hundred Shadows by Hwang Jungeun Please Please Please read this book everyone hey everyone have i told you how much you should read this book yet hey everyone!!! a few other Surprising Faves this year but that one is my indisputable #1 book of the year. others that were better then i expected include the invoice by jonas karlsson, mona by pola oloixarac, whereabouts by jhumpa lahiri, fever dream by samantha schweblin, and lots more lol i tried to read Good Books this year bc so many fun books were bad and unenjoyable. my only standout Fun Books That My Brain Liked of the year was the Heaven Official's Blessing series by Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù

What reading goals do you have for next year? EYE am going to be doing a Lower goal next year even tho i read the most books since i started doing the GR reading challenge but i think im just gonna maintain a baseline goal of 50 books. also i want to clear out my Currently Reading and i want to not have it all cluttered the way it has been for months.

TW Child Abuse & not believing victims

A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer meant a lot to me as a kid. While my abuse was not as extreme, the psychology of the abuser and the abused was so intimately familiar. I saw my Mom in that woman. Im not saying my Mom was that bad, or was exactly the same, Im saying I saw the same psychological state of being emotionally out of control and twisting it into sadism against a child.

It disturbs me revisiting this book that the author is accused of fraud. And the accusations aren't based on solid evidence, not any that I can find.

The article that started these accusations of lying, in 2002 in the NYT, is behind a paywall and Im honestly not going to the effort of going around it, I am sure the kids today know how to go around paywalls but I don't want to read it and get all upset that badly tbqh. It's by a sportswriter, Pat Jordan, who dabbled in true crime who somehow got to say that for the New York Times but the secondhand sources citing it dont show that Jordan actually provided evidence. They also claim Jordan had a hostility towards therapy. Jordan has his own memoir out where he accuses his own father of being a con artist. So it kinda seems like he is someone who would be hypervigilant to thinking someone is grifting.

The reasons people give for not believing him just read like a laundry list of all the reasons people call all abuse victims liars. Some of his relatives say they think he exaggerated, but still say there was abuse, like a 90 year old grandma who lived in another state and some - not all - of his brothers. The other scapegoated brother confirms the abuse in his own book. Well, that's typical. The other kids were both privileged by the abuser and separated from the rituals of abuse and Dave's life in general, young, brainwashed. Lots of times the "golden child(ren)" deny abuse. They're meant to. The abuser has arranged it that way. They're kids, they're warped by an abuser, they are in denial and feeling guilty. The majority of the abuse of the scapegoat will be entirely in private, as Dave's was.

People point out that the memoir of his childhood going only up to age 12 reads.... like a memoir of childhood memories does... as the.. memories of a child. Like, yea some stuff might have seemed "exaggerated" to him. The amount of time something took, for example, would be really common for a child to misremember. He says in the forward it is meant to capture his childhood memories!

Dave also says openly he changed names. The book is - a book. It's carefully written and edited. It's presented to the reader. It's... a book.

To get attention? Yes! You grew up abused and that was hidden and you want the world to see it! You want to save other kids! That is understandable and not a bad thing. Yes, he is bringing attention to child abuse and to his life. And yes, he's making money from it. He wants to make money from telling his story, it's hard, time and energy consuming work and in this society it's really hard to do anything you can't monetize, frankly, we should all know that by now. The man has a child, a child he devotes himself to giving a completely different life from his, one of love and safety and peace, - god forbid he makes any money from writing a book.

As Dave DETAILS in his book not just very openly but clearly to educate us on how abuse works, abused kids have to learn how to deceive and appease to survive the abuser. To tense part of your body before a punch, to cry when that will help or show no emotion if that will help, to steal food, to lie about injuries.

So could Dave's adult work as a motivational speaker, could his story telling, come off as someone with some skill in some manner of audience manipulation? Sure dude. Everyone does that sometimes, every writer and actor does that when performing. That doesn't mean someone just made up their whole life story.

People say he couldnt have survived all that. Unfortunately, and fortunately, people have survived worse. And again, yea sure, maybe the week he remembers eating nothing he did actually eat a bite somewhere. Maybe the time he got stabbed it wasnt as deep as the book makes it sound, it seemed deeper to a kid. Sure, maybe a couple little details are off.

eta: another claim is that he "doesn't have PTSD" and functions well in life. If you read his follow up work, he does struggle with PTSD, and even if he didn't, not everyone who, say, comes back from war has it, it clearly depends. And the idea that survivors will never function and thrive is false and insulting. Look at Oprah, Maya Angelou, Elie Wiesel ffs. People CAN survive! /eta

The other main claim is "how did she get away with it? Her kid coming to school every day with bruises and dirty clothes and no one did anything?" Yea dude. Especially in the 70s. Yes. Children get murdered by abusers to this day after a CPS failure. And that's when it gets reported at all. The teacher in the afterward who was one of Pelzer's saviors said he didn't even have any understanding of child abuse back then. It hasnt even always been illegal to abuse a kid. To this day, hitting and verbally abusing your kids is largely legal. There's a line, there's been progress (BECAUSE of people like Dave) but a lot of abuse is still legal.

People say he didnt provide enough proof to them of this hidden child abuse from when he was under 12 in the 70s. I dont even know what they expect. The only external proof I have of my own abuse are the times someone else witnessed something, most of the physical stuff was only seen by a fellow sibling occasionally, neighbors heard some yelling, that's about it. but it's not like we had phones and filmed it even in the 90s, it's not like my parents signed a form when they lost their temper. Its not like abusers take the kid to the doctor. The couple times someone called cops or DCFS they didnt do their jobs. There isn't just - collected evidence of all this stuff. That's- beyond unreasonable. At most there might have been some documentation of the child custody proceedings, in the 70s I really don't know if that would be available now.

And something that is striking about these allegations is that on EVERY forum alleging them you start to see abuse victims saying "that's very realistic actually. That's what it's like".

You also don't see the actual proof of fraud. Proof the teacher who wrote the afterward doesnt exist, for example, something like that. That is what you see with actual fraud cases. The person was actually not in the USA on 9/11. Stuff like that. That's proof of fraud.

Does it sound like that's a high bar to clear to call him a fraud? I don't think so, I think an abuse victim (or a person with cancer, or whatever thing that very rarely people lie about but most people arent lying about) should be believed or at the very least not persecuted like this unless you have extremely good evidence. I particularly think a journalist shouldn't make those allegations without doing actual journalism.

When 9/11 survivors and journalists started suspecting fraudulent "victim" Tania Head, they DID RESEARCH. They FOUND PROOF. Hard evidence. She was in Barcelona on 9/11. They didn't just start accusing her without proof. Because that would have been awful. And unlike Dave, she was being a jerk to other survivors, she was not showing mutual support, I dont see anyone so much as claiming Dave didnt support other survivors. Survivors seem to appreciate him, in fact.

Is it possible it's fake? I guess. Is it likely? No, it's not. Is there reasonable evidence of fraud? Not to my knowledge. Im obviously incredibly biased here, and yes I will be so crushed if it turned out to be a fraud, but I would want to see that evidence, Id want to know - if it is actually solid, compelling evidence, not just some redditor's misunderstanding of how abuse works.

In over 20 years, no one has gone and found actual proof that Dave lied. It's still just rumors and speculation burned onto his wikipedia and his legacy. A message to him as a survivor and every survivor watching, that we STILL are not to be believed.

Abuse survivors shouldn't have to live with the stigma of presumed guilt, of never feeling like we can ever just be believed. Coming forward about abuse should not mean you are indefinitely publicly on trial in a state of presumed guilt. You don't have to 100% believe every story you hear. But abusers thrive on the silencing of victims. At some point, if we want abuse to stop being a driving force in society causing so many problems and so much pain, we're gonna have to start believing victims.

Ok, since many nightfall readers freakin hate the train scene so much, do you guys have any ideas of how it could've been done better? Because tbh i had this question since the beginning of me hating that scene, but for some reason, i could not for the life of me imagine the train scene to be something else. Because i just knew that PD had to do something very very very weird and ugly, and over the top to amp up the "craziness" of the last book for this series. I just knew since the moment alex appeared, she would cause unnecessary drama for emmy and will, so a very very very ugly and big closure would have to happen and like i said, i cant think of anything else. I know the train scene was absurd AF, but i dont know a better scene to fix that part of nightfall.

I think pd already ruined the whole book since the moment they dropped aydin and alex in that book. And the moment alex came in, it's like watching a car crash, it got worse and worse and worse, so the ending should be for emmy, will, alex and aydin to confront their deeply ugly feelings of jealousy, envy, anger etc. etc. in a ridiculously "devils night" way. Yeah, do you get what i'm saying? If any other anons can give some other possible headcanons of what could've happened to solve emmy and alex's + will and aydin's stupid rivalry in the last moments before they ran away from BC + in the train, please do share. Readers kept on being angry at that scene (me too) but i never saw anyone actually suggesting a scene that can wrap up the whole ridiculousness of this weird emmywillalexaydin foursome problem better than what was in canon. And i hated that i couldnt give a better suggestion because those scenes were shit as hell!

I feel like a lot of things pd wrote in this series, were really just for shock values that they couldnt integrate and blend well in a more coherent plotting or characterisation. Idk, it does take me out of the story because what the hell was that for? This was the same reaction i had for all the threesomes and orgies in the past 3.5 books too.

That’s a good question, and honestly, I don’t have much of an answer. As it’s been discussed, PD particular brand of sharing doesn’t hit right with a lot of readers, so I’m not sure there is anything that could be done to change this.

However, I think if one were to attempt to write an AU for this scene, it would be important to look not at what happened, but the characters at play.

I used to think that the train scene was supposed to parallel the gym scene with Damon and Will, and for the most part I still do. In the train scene, Will becomes Emory, having to watch the person he cares about most being intimate with someone else. However, Emory doesn’t become Will, she becomes Damon. Which is an odd choice. I think it was supposed to back-up the idea that Emory is finally going after what she wants and desires; giving into her impulses without giving it a second thought or overthinking like she had before.

It’s just her desire for Alex comes out of nowhere. There really is no build-up to their friendship that would lead to this. On top of that, it’s paralleling Damon and Will’s friendship, which is supposed to be so deep that it has no comparisons in the series.

Because of these reasons, it aligns more with the Rika/Banks scene in Hideaway. Emory effectively says “All of you have had Alex, so why shouldn’t I? That would even the playing field.”

But I didn't understand why that solved the problem Banks and with Rika, and it's the same here. The Alex/Emory scene doesn’t work for so many because it doesn’t seem to offer a good reason for why their problems with each other are resolved.

If PD wanted to put Will in Emory’s place so he could experience what Em’s had to go through with him “playing the field”, Emory needed to be the one accepting pleasure, not giving. Not having it forced on her.

Wanting and accepting and inviting. From someone not Will.

Instead, PD put Emory in Will’s place, with her pursuing pleasure thoughtlessly.

But didn’t we just learn that that type of behavior got Will nowhere? So, why put Emory in that place?

And this is why I say I think the scene was supposed to parallel other scenes but I can’t say for sure, because after a while it gets confusing and tangled. I can’t wrap my head around what this scene was supposed to accomplish narratively other than being spicy.

Maybe like you said, it’s supposed to resolve the issues between Alex and Emory over Will and Aydin. But I don’t see how this puts everyone on even ground.

Narratively, I didn’t mind the shower scene (on a personal level, it's ew). I think it accomplished a lot in bringing the issue to a head. The issue mainly being that Will and Alex are too close and found too much comfort in each other. As much as the plot irritates me, Aydin proving that Alex still thinks of Will as hers, and her attachment to him wasn’t going to just disappear was a point they needed to understand.

But it goes nowhere. Instead, it’s framed as if Emmy doesn’t want it to go away, but wants to be apart of it.

So, in short, I don’t know how to fix the scene within the series as it is. I don't know who to bring in, who to move where, who should do what.

Ultimately, in all of my fix-it ideas, moving NF to the third book is still my go-to. If that were the case, we could bring Damon while he was still at his worst in to play, which might change the dynamics some. Either way, what I think should have happened was a clear shifting in who Will goes to for affection and intimacy. Not Damon, not Alex, but Emory.

Moving NF to the third book also means we don’t have to deal with Alex and Aydin’s relationship right away, which gives Willemmy some room to breathe because the series doesn’t have to resolve everything within the last 100 pages.

I also don’t think MichaelRika and Kaibanks needed to be there. That was weird and kind of useless.

(P.S. I haven’t said this before because it’s not that big a deal, but I kinda hate that Micah’s name is Micah because it means I can’t shorten MichaelRika’s ship name to MiKa. Their ship name is a mouthful as it is.)

Omgggg you are so right and I think its really annoying when adults who put childrens media down see good childrens media that they enjoy and appreciate and go "aha! This isnt childrens media then" The best example I can think of in regards to this is probably The Little Prince, both the book and the two movies Ive watched. I adore the book, both live action adaptation from 70s and the animated movie that came out in 2015 were lovely, I despise how theyre all touted as "the childrens [piece of media] for adults" like NO. fuck off, its a childrens book written with children in mind by someone who clearly understands children and the movies are the same in that regard, its just a bit unconventional, stop saying shit like that

Also, while reading your post I couldnt help but sortof connect it to another post partially about childrens media that really resonated with me (I would link it but its technically a response to dsmp discoure shit and idk if you'd wanna get involved in all that lol). Basically the OP was responding to people criticizing the storyline specifically on the basis of it having a terrible message by saying that its not a story for children, its for teens and adults, it doesnt need to have a message and its perfectly fine for "morally wrong" things to happen without some kind of condemnation because teens adults are expected to be able to handle that. And I 100% agree with that assessment because, while theres certainly a lot to be said about the dsmp, you cannot say that it was written with children in mind in any way shape or form. first of all, i just want to say that i am so very sorry  that it took me a while to reply to this message. there was just so much good stuff in here that i wanted to actually take time to reply to your entire message beyond a few sentences.

anyway, you are completely correct. i have seen a lot of posts on tungl dot hell that criticize people for being grown adults who are “too into” a children’s media. sometimes with weird takes of how long it takes to do taxes or laundry. (side rant: laundry and taxes both take minimal time to do, why is it so common to use those as retorts?) other times it’s like “you should go take care of your kids” and like… caring about the media being given to your kids IS part of taking care of kids. blogging about the core values that are shown in a children’s tv show CAN be part of finding a community with other mothers on shows to watch as a family. genuinely it is very baffling to me to see people think that older women caring about the story in children’s media is so weird. my parents tended to watch our cartoons with us, and got invested in them with us.

even outside the context of parenting, a creator is allowed to watch children’s media specifically to make children’s media. being aware of what is often marketed to kids IS a valuable thing to do. creating for children IS a worthy endeavor. and it is wild to see people treat them as they are not.

but even further, you are correct in your assessment that a lot of people see a well put together media made with children in mind and go “then it mustn't be made for children” which… uh… yes it is. a piece of media being “good” does not prevent it from being for children. i actually saw this with gravity falls & the owl house, both of which aired on a children’s network and was very clearly marketed towards children. but because they are “good”, they suddenly were not for children. it was also the argument bronies made about my little pony - that because it was “good” it was not meant for little girls.

and it is true that people tend to think of “good” media for adults and “bad” media for children. which is deeply unfortunate, because children’s media CAN be good and well written. it can be very smart. as much as i say that bridge to terabithia scarred me, it was definitely written for children in mind. it was a story written to help a child cope with grief and sudden loss, and that’s okay! like, there’s this idea that children’s media MUST be simplistic and MUST be moralistic but… that’s not true either. the goosebumps series and anamorphs series proves kids like gross out horror as much as adults do.

adults tend to think of children as inherently pure and naive and try to preserve that purity like a cut flower pressed between pages. but a child cannot be pressed between pages of a scrapbook, preserved at that age forever. a child will grow up, and books and tv shows that do not treat them like simpletons are valuable. that does not make a smartly written children’s story an adult story. it makes it a very good children’s story.

Day 48: Friday February 17, 2023 - “Photo Reel”

What my photo reel can say about how we navigated our day together:

7:08am - Stacking garages at sunrise. I may never sleep in ever again. 10:49am - Story time at the Library, shy in my lap.  Taking in the scene.  William starts school next week, so some good socialization should be useful.  I told William that Libraries are where all the books come from. He obviously had no clue we were coming to Story time for little babies instead of nap today! 11:15am - William is caught reading “Where is the Pirate?” to another little boy with a stuffed rat. Biggest cat in the room once he figured it out. 11:54am - Holy shit, did you know Peacocks can jump?! 12:05pm - When we go to the zoo we work our way back to the Elephants, and apparently Noon is a really great time to be here, because at least today, Noon was feeding time and all the elephants were right up to the gate and what do they eat?  Cucumbers.  Check that out William! 12:15pm - After seeing the elephants, I get William out to run around and see if he’ll go hit the elephant butt.  Today he came close - but did really enjoy watching the other little boys do it.  He can point out every animal on the big donor mural back there! Even the Ostrich! 12:28pm - “Want to go see the bearded dragons today?”  “YEAAAA!” 12:53pm. - Lunch time. Zoo Fries.  Dippa Dippa. Ice.  We both love this part of the day. 2:02pm - Somewhere during the hour long afternoon nap.   Audrie asked me to try to stretch the morning out and only do one nap.  I gave it my best shot!  I kept him awake until 1:30 when we started to drive home.  I pulled into Michaels Parking Lot as soon as he was out and took advantage of that time to get some work done, hotspotting into my email.  Time is a premium.  I look up into the mirror to see if he’s still asleep and saw the most precious little boy with his Uncle Louie and I thought he looked just about perfect. 3:43pm - Time outside laying on the grass playing with the ice cream truck, turned into a big whirling dervish Dog Wrestle where all three puppies practiced their best moves and defenses to see who would be king for the day, and in practiced fashion, Havarti wins.  Because Havyvys is the King of every day here at The Finca.   4:33pm - Toot Toot.  Time to go try to take a nap because this guy is asking for Thomas The Train.... or maybe he’s pretending to be an ice cream train.  Hard to say but I look at this picture now at the end of the day and can literally hear him saying “toot toot” 7:20 - Butter Noodles are served with Potatoes/Ranch Dippa, and Cucumbers (like the elephants eat).  It took some wild coaxing (I know that was a lot of french fries dude but that was literally six hours ago!).  Even Mama couldnt coax him to eat over facetime.  Finally I got serious.  “What do you want to watch while you eat? Dora?”  “HOCKEY!”  Seriously? OK!  I found the Spartans playing Wisconsin, and William clapped and said “Lets Go Blues” and ate his dinner.  Sometimes something works and I have no clue why.  Like what kind of cheat code was that?! 7:45pm - Play time in the great room to wind down and digest that food.  Get your wiggles out running that truck transporter up and down the bench seat.  That truck transporter is early front runner for toy of the year. 7:53 -”What are you playing with there buddy?” - “Mama on the airplane.”  Now thats a heart melter.   “Mama flying the airplane? While the pilot rides?”   “Yea!” “Is that why it never leaves the ground?”   “Yea!” 8:13pm - Tubby time.  He really doesn’t like getting his hair washed.  Really its the rinse that gets him.  He’s taken to playing with the rinse bucket so that I can’t sneak up on him with it.  This kid really loves his nightly tubby time though, especially since we add the blocks to make a boat out of for Ernie and Cookie, and bubbles that smell so nice.  Its a great positive kickoff to bedtime routine and I am so glad he enjoys it and its not a fight.  I suppose we can thank mama and all those early bath times for that!  Writing about it now reminds me of how funny he was when we’d lift him up and out of the bath as a little baby.  Such great memories. 9:14pm: 15 hours after it started, almost exaclty, the day was done. Sure I had to come back in and reassure him the standard few times, but I called it with a photo at 9:14.  The bed time routine went fine.  He didn’t want to get out of the tub, and so got shivery cold as he brushed his teeth and I held him tightly in front of the mirror.  I moved him to the changing table where I combed his hair real nice with a part to the left (my favorite part of the routine), then lotioned him, added a diaper, and put on his lucky “No Wake Zone” pajamas - we might need these tonight after Mama had me take out the morning nap!  Then we read 4 books (Heads, Goodnight Hockey, Love In The Wild, and First 100 Trucks), while he ate a Peach Squeezy yogurt, the only one he’ll take these days.  He sucked it dry in about 2 minutes.  I should time him one of these days, but its very efficient. I suppose all that practice with the nipple raised a superstar squeezy sucker.  We put on the sleep sack, said goodnight to the dogs and everything else we passed along the way (elmo chair, monkey, baseball, hockey game on tv). He took some ibuprofen for his teeth, chased with some icewawa, looked at me and said “Bop” - Kenny Chesney, Nick Mulvey, Renee & Jermey, Sleep Sounds, Thunderstorm.   Bop goes the weasel and finally on the third of fourth try I had him down to stay and I snuck out.  Finally time for a break.  Turned the salt lamp up, stole a pic - the best one of the day.  The trophy prize - a happy healthy sleeping baby right on time at the end of a successful day where I planned my work and I work my plan.  The picture, at 9:14pm, of successful Dad Day.

my first ever harry potter dr - forgot to script out fred's death (reading him die in the books caused me severe trauma to the point that i scribbled it out in the book and skip over it in the movie and it slipped my mind) and he died right in front of me after i remembered. if i had remembered two seconds earlier i could have saved him.

The Witcher - Geralt hurt me and in an attempt to hurt him back i ruined his friendship w jaskier, and vesemir and the others including ciri disowned him and i dont have it in myself to return (i was doing horrible mentally and i lashed out in a moment of hurt)

birth father dr - i should have listened to my mom when she told me what kind of person he was.

the orville actor dr - got too close to adrianne and scott (they were married and i played their daughter, my mom and i werent in a good place at the time so we were like a family) and then the divorce came out of nowhere and i was in the middle with both of them fighting using me as a communication vessel. couldnt escape it, i lived w adrianne at the time and worked with both of them. it was effecting me mentally and i stopped.

Steggy daughter dr - you don't want margaret carter as a mother. just don't do it.
