CAS - service - volonteering for 'Socijalna samoposluga "Kruh sv. Elizabete" '

December 10th 2022. I volonteered for Socijalna samoposluga "Kruh Sv. Elizabete". This was my first time volonteering. I have done some volonteer work, such as painting boxes for a childrens hospital but never directly like I did yesterday. With my two friends, Ena and Maxim we stood in front of Interšpar in Tower centar from 9am to 12pm asking people if they have a minute of their time to spare to tell them about the poor community and what they need. We were collecting durable foods and necessities for the poor community, such as flour, rice, sugar, milk, cans of salsa, salt, pads, soap, pasta... We held signs and stopped anyone who entered the store. I did not find this difficult, I found it quite fun and exciting even though a lot of people just passed me, ignored me and just said 'I dont have time'. With all those 'carefree' people I also came across a wider group of people that actually stopped, listened to me and participated in the activity which made me feel a lot better. The whole time I was doing this activity I felt really good, like I was doing something I should be. I got satisfaction when people would bring over the food or necessities they bought. By the end of the shift, which passed real quick, we collected a ton of supplies as you can see in the photos. How has this activity affected me? To be honest, it completely changed my point of view. I used to pass volonteers telling them 'I don't have time' or just ignoring them completely. And now, that I was in the other posistion i realized that I should stop, listen and then decide how I can help. Taking just 5 minutes of your time to listen to somebody in need can really impact their life. From now on I will try to contribute to those in need in any way I can. In summery, I loved this service activity and would like to this more often, not only do I feel better about myself I think we made a positive impact and helped others, which is very important for the community around us. Being good to somone will get you good karma back :)!

This really doesn't have anything to do with my post but I was googling quote about Karma and I thought this was fantastic. I love Nirvana - its my go to when I'm feeling disconnected and as if I've lost my way in the world. Listening to angst helps free me from my own, I guess. But this just makes me laugh.....and I now have a positive thought to turn to whenever I'm faced with unkindness in the world.

What I wanted to write about today was something good. It feels as if karma played into it, but perhaps its just that I'm dealing with a corporate entity that is reasonable and considerate of its customers.

I bought concert tickets a few months ago for a close friend and myself. It wasn't a show I'd normally go to, but my friend loved the genre and he was fighting an illness, and I thought it would be something for the two of us to look forward to this summer.

Unfortunately my friend recently lost his health battle, and the world lost a truly kind and caring man much too soon.

Now I don't generally buy ticket insurance, but in this case, I had done so, just in case his health kept him from going to the show. So, I read through the policy (it was with Allianz) and began the process of applying for a refund. I had concerns because although my friend was my concert companion, he wasn't my partner and I'd paid for the tickets. So they were going to have to take me at my word, and these days, it was difficult for me to believe that a company would do that.

But these folks did, and in just a few days they not only responded by accepting my claim, they also expressed condolences for my loss.

This was a pleasant surprise. Allianz is already my travel insurance company, although I've never needed to file a claim. And based on this experience, I won't be shopping that policy - they have a customer for life.
