Indiscretion
-
I don't believe I was created
To be a bad person.
My soul was forced into this reality,
Burnt by what they called love,
Ripped apart by what you referred to
As family.
To manage the blaze,
I found a flower within the smoke.
A brief reprieve from a world on fire.
You'll have to excuse my sickness;
The way I cough up blood beside you.
To destroy another in the name of
Your own happiness?
I curl beside the flower,
My breathing labored.
It shivers in the destruction.
I don't believe I was created to be
A bad person.
But I don't know if a good person
Would long for the flower,
Rather than fall to the flames.

Have you ever read a novel and found yourself captivated by certain characters that stood out from the rest? These characters, with their distinct personalities and unique traits, often play a crucial role in driving the plot forward. In the world of literature, two archetypes that frequently appear are the White Swan and the Black Swan characters. Each archetype represents a different side of the human experience, offering readers a glimpse into the complexities of human nature. In this blog post, we will explore what these archetypes represent and provide a step-by-step guide on how to create compelling White Swan and Black Swan characters in your own novel.
Understanding the White Swan and Black Swan Archetypes
Before delving into the process of creating these characters, it is essential to understand what the White Swan and Black Swan archetypes represent. The White Swan character is often portrayed as the epitome of goodness, purity, and innocence. They are the individuals who embody moral righteousness, inspiring hope and optimism in both the story's world and its readers. On the other hand, the Black Swan character represents the darker side of human nature. They are complex, morally ambiguous, and often engage in actions that challenge societal norms. These characters exude a certain allure, drawing readers into their world of mystery and intrigue.
When writing a novel, incorporating both archetypes can provide a balanced and compelling narrative. The interplay between the White Swan and Black Swan characters creates a dynamic tension that keeps readers engaged and invested in the story's outcome. By understanding the defining characteristics of each archetype, you can effectively craft characters that resonate with your readers.
To create a White Swan character, focus on qualities such as kindness, empathy, and unwavering integrity. This character should embody the moral compass of the story, serving as the guiding light in times of darkness. Conversely, when developing a Black Swan character, explore their flaws, their internal struggles, and the reasons behind their morally ambiguous choices. These characters are often driven by complex motivations, which can range from a desire for power and control to a deeply rooted sense of injustice.
Step-by-Step Guide to Writing White Swan Characters
Step 1: Define the character's core values and beliefs. What drives them to always do the right thing? Are they influenced by their upbringing, personal experiences, or a strong sense of justice?
Step 2: Give your White Swan character a compelling backstory that explains their unwavering integrity. Explore their past traumas, triumphs, or moments of moral dilemma that shaped their character.
Step 3: Highlight their acts of kindness and empathy. Show how their actions inspire others and create a ripple effect in the story's world.
Step 4: Create internal conflicts for your White Swan character. Despite their goodness, they may struggle with doubts, temptations, or moments of weakness. This adds depth and relatability to their character.
Step 5: Ensure the White Swan character has a clear role in the story's plot. They should face challenges that test their values and allow them to shine as the embodiment of goodness.
Step-by-Step Guide to Writing Black Swan Characters
Step 1: Develop a complex backstory for your Black Swan character. What events or experiences led them to embrace their darker nature? Explore their motivations and the internal conflicts that drive their morally ambiguous choices.
Step 2: Create an air of mystery and intrigue around your Black Swan character. Their actions should be unpredictable, keeping readers guessing about their true intentions.
Step 3: Show glimpses of vulnerability and humanity in your Black Swan character. This adds depth and makes them more relatable to readers, despite their morally ambiguous choices.
Step 4: Explore the consequences of their actions on both themselves and others. This will add complexity to their character and create opportunities for growth or redemption.
Step 5: Ensure the Black Swan character's presence challenges the status quo and creates tension within the story. They should serve as a catalyst for change, forcing other characters to question their beliefs and values.
Conclusion
Creating compelling White Swan and Black Swan characters requires a deep understanding of their defining characteristics and motivations. By following the step-by-step guide provided in this blog post, you can craft characters that resonate with readers and add depth to your novel. Remember, the interplay between these archetypes creates a dynamic tension that keeps readers engaged and invested in the story's outcome. So go forth and unleash the power of the White Swan and Black Swan archetypes in your writing!

Y'know, I have increasingly noticed a trend amongst people who say "good vs evil is unrealistic" to in turn believe not only that good vs evil doesn't exist, but that good and evil aren't real things that occur in the world
Personally, I must emphatically reject this, it is not a nuanced view on the world, its just the opposite extreme of a black and white "everything is either good or bad, no in-between" view of the world
But more than that, believing there is no good and evil, or even that everything is shades of gray, is an abstention of responsibility, because if you don't believe in good and evil, then you don't have to do something to stop evil

Vigilante
A story about a student in the police university giving justice to those who were wronged. While going against the law.
This series has a total of 8 episode out of which 4 have been aired.
I mean a cop being a vigilante. And the two major twists and the cliff hanger they left us with.... 🤌🏻.
This show gets up close with all the graphic scenes. A lot of them. If you are someone who can't see much violence. This one is not for you.
Tumblr media
But for the thriller fans ( like me) I am so far liking the show. But I have a feeling that a lot of things are hurried up. It may be due to the number of episodes.
Okay the part that I loved the most was how they used the darkness well for shooting the scenes. Beautiful.
Tumblr media
SPOILER - Also this is the first show where the person chasing the vigilante knows who he is.. yet does not caugh him. Like wth is going on? At this point I have no predictions. I thought he would get away with it. ( which he did) but something tells me there is more to it. Awaiting the next episodes.

This duo. I don't know what else to name it. It's a good one. They are both smart, cunning, proud. They know of the situation well and make the best out of it.
I am interested to see where this goes.
Tumblr media
I have seen this actor in Weightlifting fairy Kim Bok-Joo and this character if a full 180 of that one. Complete opposite. I am glad to see him in this way. Though I would like to know more about him. It seems there is something left to know about the character. I hope the coming episodes will let us know more.

For emotionally immature people, all interactions boil down to the question of whether they’re good people or bad ones, which explains their extreme defensiveness if you try to talk to them about something they did.

We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people. Human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability; it comes through the tireless efforts of men willing to be co-workers with God, and without this hard work, time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation. We must use time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right.

Story Prompt 103
There stood a figure shrouded in darkness. Their desire for power and domination eclipsed any semblance of virtue or morality. They had watched as the so-called heroes paraded through, their lust for glory blinding them to the consequences of their actions.
"You!" the figure's voice echoed through the desolate landscape, cutting through the silence like a knife. "You heroes, with your hollow promises of justice and righteousness. You label anyone who dares to oppose you as villains, but I am more than just an obstacle in your path. I am your ultimate challenge, your final test."
The heroes, caught off guard by the figure's bold proclamation, exchanged wary glances amongst themselves. One of them stepped forward, their voice filled with defiance. "You think you can defeat us? You're nothing but a twisted version of what a hero should be."
The figure chuckled darkly, the sound sending shivers down the spines of those gathered. "Oh, but I am so much more than that. I am the embodiment of your darkest fears, the culmination of your own hubris. And unlike your childish games, in this battle, I will emerge victorious."
With a menacing grin, the figure extended a hand, summoning forth shadows that twisted and writhed at their command. The heroes braced themselves, knowing that this confrontation would be unlike any they had faced before.
As the battle ensued, each clash of steel and surge of power only served to fuel the figure's determination. They fought with a ferocity born from years of resentment and bitterness, their every move calculated to outwit and overpower their adversaries.
"You may have bested others before me," the figure taunted, their voice dripping with contempt, "but you will find that I am not so easily defeated."
