Oooooo...I like this!
JeromyTV does something like this on SpellShots but since my character has amnesia we learn a little bit more about Key's past whenever they're near death (which ends up being quite a bit)!

Let the Platforms Burn
Tumblr media
Tumblr is seeing massive growth thanks to the implosion of Twitter and Reddit. but migrating here or elsewhere means starting all over from the beginning, which is why users so seldom make the leap away from much-despised platforms (can you say "Facebook")
in his important new piece, Cory Doctorow argues that we need to fundamentally change the way social media and other user-content platforms operate, and give users the power to easily migrate their content and connections from site to site
he argues we need to let bad platforms burn (using the metaphor of healthy fires that clear out dangerous underbrush, preventing destructive wildfires) to make room for new, better ones without punishing users for escaping social-media prison
full piece (and podcast version) here: X
a few choice excerpts:
Today's tech giants run "walled gardens" that are actually walled prisons that entrap their billions of users by imposing high switching costs on them. How did that happen? How did tech become "five giant websites filled with screenshots from the other four?"
The answer lies in the fact that tech was born as antitrust was dying. Reagan hit the campaign trail the same year the Apple ][+ hit shelves. With every presidency since, tech has grown more powerful and antitrust has grown weaker (the Biden administration has halted this decay, but it must repair 40 years' worth of sabotage).
This allowed tech to "merge to monopoly." Google built a single successful product – a search engine – and then conquered the web by buying other peoples' companies, even as their own internal product development process produced a nearly unbroken string of flops. Apple buys 90 companies a year – Tim Cook brings home a new company more often than you bring home a bag of groceries.
When Facebook was threatened by an upstart called Instagram, Mark Zuckerberg sent a middle-of-the-night email to his CFO defending his plan to pay $1b for the then-tiny company, insisting that the only way to secure eternal dominance was to eliminate competitors – by buying them out, not by being better than them. As Zuckerberg says, "It is better to buy than compete"
it's great that we're seeing such a reinvigorment of Tumblr, but this site's delight could evaporate overnight with some bad updates (presaged in recent corporate messages). better than hoping Tumblr might stay good forever is ensuring we can leave without losing everything - and knowing we can leave would help prevent the enshittification of our beloved Hellsite

They easily should've done this, like, a decade or more ago. But it's a start!

(Possible spoilers if you haven't seen Scott's newest episode!)
Since Scott is now a fungal mage, here's some random hcs i thought of
the only thing he can eat is bone meal (ik he can't eat anything but this sounds both funny and extremely worrying)
looking at the reason why he's at 8 hearts, he's a lot more frail/weaker than his transporter self
B i g mushroom hat (look, i just think it would be cool)
his footsteps have small patches of mycelium that dissapear a few minutes later
If he stands at a certain area for a while, small mushrooms start to grow nearby
his grave (aka where transporter scott died) is covered in different kinds of fungi. The fungi ended up growing so much that it covered the name on the gravestone
he does small dashes/spourous relocation a lot out of habit from being a transporter. Sometimes he tries doing things like swapping places with entities/setting up waypoints for teleporting only to realize he's no longer a transporter
new fear developed: a fear of falling :D (sometimes freezes on spot, even if it was just a small fall)
Yeah you can probably tell who i watch the most
-✨️anon
I literally love all of these ideas so much! Scott is one of my favs to watch bro.
Also the big mushroom hat is practically cannon there's np denying it now. But if he hate bone meal, would he be a cannibal in a way or no? (if it was coming from 'people'). Genuine questions I've been asking myself..
-Vicktor (Sorry for being a bit late)

Hiya, I really like the idea of a fallen Sera becoming an overlord. I was wondering do you have a masterpost of all of the main points?
I don’t but this blog is getting big enough that I need to start making one for all the AUs that have sprung up. I will work on that!

Solar eclipse jam — how to avoid getting stuck in traffic on April 8, 2024 | Space
Expect a traffic jam for the ages on eclipse day — and plan ahead to avoid it
Buckle up — there's a total solar eclipse coming on April 8 — and everyone will be talking about traffic.
Many who traveled into and within the path of totality last time around on August 21, 2017, will recall the long and tedious traffic jams on the way home after the eclipse.
The total solar eclipse on April 8, will traverse North America from Mexico to Canada via the U.S. Although another one happened less than seven years ago, this one is longer in duration, has a wider path of totality, and occurs over or close to many major cities. It will also happen in a part of the world where millions of people have either experienced or heard eyewitness accounts of how spectacular totality is. The potential is for millions of visitors to flock to the path of totality, defying predictions. ...

🌊 the problem with too much repetition
say for example you have a ritual of wishing someone peace, you say "peace be with you" every single day upon greeting someone on the street
but if this ritual becomes too common and is repeated too often it eventually gets taken for granted, it becomes unconscious and therefore loses its conscious meaning and eventually people forget what it was originally adopted for in the first place
this is dangerous! because if the ritual exists for a reason, it's important to preserve the reason for the solution just as much as the solution is important
in other words, documenting problems is just as important as documenting solutions!!!! if all you do is document solutions you're going to end up creating a situation where all the solutions get taken for granted and then you're set up for a huge fall from grace
beware of documenting all the solutions, but none of the problems...! this is when people start to take all the solutions for granted until one day somebody decides to say "ok i've had enough of these boring old solutions" and then they literally created a bajillion problems nobody could remember how to solve anymore
THIS IS WHY IT IS NECESSARY TO REINVENT SOLUTIONS AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN
because if you don't they will get taken for granted and eventually someone blind to the value of what they have in front of them will make the mistake of throwing away paradise in favor of some more interesting looking disaster
so it's safer, to intentionally explore fictional disasters constantly specifically so you can learn from them and so you can keep everyday solutions fresh and new in everyone's eyes
