My Thoughts on GUTS

The album

It’s perfect it’s one of my favorite pop releases of 2023. I actually really enjoyed it more than I thought I Would the production is clean, crisp but rough around the edges it’s got angst and a bitter sweet nostalgic feeling at times. Lyrically it feels like a diary documenting the end of Olivia’s teen years but at the same time it is relatable to everyone that’s been a teenager in someway the lyrics are polished but not too perfect and well written she gets her point across in a way that is refined and relatable.

Songs

This album is a no skip I literally cannot wait to hear the deluxe tracks. The song I claimed was teenage dream but the one I keep going back to is get him back.

Get him back is incredibly catchy and doesn’t miss its so different from her usual style but yet it holds her signature early 2000s pop rock inspiration.

All American B*tch is one I really love more than I thought I would it’s a song that is girlhood and I love that

Lacy is one of my favorites I love that it’s about someone but we don’t know who like it’s not too obvious my guess would be Sabrina or Madison beer but that’s neither here nor there the soft guitar the lead vocal it’s perfect

One song that I wasn’t a big fan of is pretty isn’t pretty I think it’s good reflection of pressure and expectations thrown on females today but it’s too on the nose I think. So it’s just okay for me

Plagiarism/ inspiration?

Y’all I’m tired of defending miss Rodrigo for These allegations but I will do it 🫡. There is a difference between stealing and taking inspiration. No one artist can own a set of chords which was proven during the Ed Sheeran lawsuit. All American does sound like Miley’s song yes, however it’s a different interpretation of the song it’s not like she took Miley’s song and threw a new lyrics over it the verses sound NOTHING alike. As for Deja Vu and cruel summer they sound nothing alike the screaming at the bridge is all. Misery Business and Good 4 you are pop/rock songs that’s it man.

anyone else have multiple traumatic memories associated specifically with holidays/family vacations? because that is a topic I never see discussed in all the So You Had A Shitty Childhood, Now What? self-help books i've been reading. but for me, it was a significant thing. and the more i think about it the more it seems like this would be an (unfortunately) common experience. would be grateful to hear if this matches other peoples' experiences...
