New York City Course Map
There are 16 public golf courses in New York City. Queens has the most courses (6), followed by the Bronx (5), Staten Island (3), and Brooklyn (2). There are no courses in Manhattan. This map depicts the outline of the property for each of the courseAs – the variation from site to site is striking.

Charles Blair MacDonald with Mssrs Blackwell and Linskill. CBM is on the left. A divisive character, his work with #SethRaynor continues to impress. So much great #golfarchitecture emerged from 1909-14 on both sides of pond. Was this the pinnacle of the Golden Age?

18 Days of the Sandhills: A Countdown Day 15 The 15th hole at Southern Pines starts the homeward stretch in earnest, a long, straight par five to a deep, elevated green with more back to front tilt than you'll be comfortable with if you're on the wrong section. The Dormie Club's 15 hole varies greatly depending on what tee you play from. From the back tees, it's a tough left-to-right bending hole with a forced carry off of the tee. From more forward tees, it's a straight-forward, almost driveable risk-reward hole with tough L-to-R pitch. Mid Pines' 15th hole is a long, narrow ribbon of a roller coaster par five featuring a tremendous right-to-left slide of the fairway. Dodging the trees and sand with the drive is crucial for any chance to have success. #golf #GolfTrip #golfarchitecture #NCSandhills #SanityBreak (at Southern Pines, North Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIPd3zVFlDU/?igshid=d9utnintriu2

Buffalo Ridge Golf Course at Big Cedar Lodge. Hollister, Missouri. Where the buffalo roam. It's hard to get noticed with Ozarks National and Payne's Valley right next door, but Buffalo Ridge is no slouch. Designed by Tom Fazio Buffalo Ridge holds its own with its higher profile neighbors.

Rock Spring Golf Club
I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about Rock Spring Golf Club. This year, I finally made the day trip from the City to West Orange, New Jersey to play.
The course, designed by the legendary Seth Raynor, is incredible. The greens are absolutely massive, and they are generally guarded by collections of deep, picturesque bunkers. So while the tee shots are mostly fair and forgiving, you have to hit precise approach shots to score well. Overall, the course is fun, interesting, and filled with compelling angles and memorable long lag putts.
Unfortunately, I played on a cloudy day so I couldn’t capture any photos of the New York City skyline, which is usually visible from the course. Hopefully next time!

The Golf Club of Houston. Tournament Course. Humble, Texas. Hole 18, Par 4, 487 yds. This was taken while walking the course during a fog delay at my son's high school tournament. The former home of the PGA Tour's Houston Open, the 18th hole on the Tournament Course at the Golf Club of Houston was a perennial fixture on the list of the PGA Tour's toughest holes. It follows C.B. MacDonald's Cape template and is almost identical to the 18th hole on the Blue Monster course at Trump Doral.
