Sablé Breton, (sob-lee breh-tone) is a classic, very buttery cookie coming from the Bretagne region (Britanny) in the North-West of France. The region is famous for its indulgent use of butter, in particular salted butter. The word Sablé is French for sand and refers to the butter being incorporated into the flour. It actually feels sandy after mixing. The cross hatch design on top is the traditional finish. Don't mistake the simplicity of this cookie as just another butter cookie. The French make the best butter cookies, including Petit Beurre. Sablé Breton are another of their superb cookies that are in a class by themselves. Four ingredients make up the cookie with salted butter being the most important one and Brittany has the best sea salt as well as butter. "The history of salt works on the peninsula stretches back 2,700 years; Brittany’s “white gold” was a sought-after luxury product as early as Roman times" according to the Taste of France magazine. These make a perfect holiday gift, especially since they can be made ahead and baked when needed. Why you want to make this cookie They are really easy to make with just 4 ingredients. How can you go wrong? These cookies can be made well in advance. Simply cut out the cookies, freeze, wrap and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Sablé Breton are like no other butter cookie you'll ever eat. They are absolutely addictive. I can say that from personal experience. They're perfect with coffee or tea, as a snack or just because they are so good. They make an exquisite gift for someone special. Variations Add a lemon or orange rind to the dough. A chocolate version can be made by removing 1/4 cup of flour and substituting 1/4 cup Dutch cocoa. Add 1/2 cup of any nut and process it along with the flour. Increase the egg yolks to 3. While these are usually served as single cookies, they can be sandwiched with jam, nutella, or buttercream. Any size cutter can be used. Recipe Ingredients Sablé Breton Dough FRONT ROW: European Salted Butter, egg yolks BACK ROW: All-purpose flour, granulated sugar Egg Wash Egg Yolk, Milk The butter I used is Kerrygold Salted Butter. It is a European butter that has a higher fat content (82%) which gives a richer taste and color to the cookie. However, it softens faster when rolling out but a quick trip to the refrigerator or freezer firms it up. Granulated sugar is used for the sandy texture that is indicative of this cookie. I have seen recipes with powdered sugar but that defeats the sandiness of the cookies. The egg yolks enrich the cookie and add color. They are essential to the texture. The egg yolk and milk glaze adds shine and a pleasant glow to the cookie as well as being traditional. Be sure to see the recipe card below for the exact ingredients & instructions. Step by Step Instructions Step 1. Kerrygold is just one of many European butters either imported or made in America. The bold package holds salted butter while the silver package is for unsalted.Step 2. Cut the butter into small pieces. The easiest way is to cut is legthnwise and crosswise into about 8 cuts. The butter has to be very cold before continuing. Step 3. Add the dry ingredients to the processor and place the cold butter over them. Step 4. Process until the butter is indistinguishable. Step 5. Add the sugar to the processor. Step 6. Process to incorporate. Step 7. Add the egg yolks. Step 8. Process until the dough comes together. It does not have to form a ball. Pour the dough onto your work surface. Step 9. Gather the dough together and form into a flat round. Step 10. Divide the dough in half to make it easier to roll out. Step 11. If the dough is really soft, chill until firmed up somewhat. Do not let it get hard. Roll one piece between wax paper. There is a great tutorial regarding rolling dough between wax paper and why I prefer this medium over others. You will find it in my post Cut Out Cookies Using the Wax PaperTechnique.
Step 12. After chilling or freezing, cut the cookie out in the desired size. Leave them on the bottom sheet of wax paper and freeze them. Step 13. Make vertical lines from the top to bottom of the cookie with the tines of a fork. Step 14. Draw diagonal lines across the vertical ones. Step 15. After the first set of lines is drawn, line the fork up leaving the appropriate amount of space and continue across the cookie. Step 16. The cookie should be chilled at this point. When ready to bake, combine the egg yolk and milk and brush each cookie. Alternative Directions with a Mixer The dough may be made in a mixer with a few changes. All the ingredients remain the same. However, the butter should be softened instead of refrigerated. Beat the sugar and butter until combined. Add the egg yolks, mixing in well. Add the flour, mixing on low. Shape into a flat round and chill if too soft to roll out. Continue as above, rolling between wax paper. Recipe FAQ's What is a Sablé Breton?  The word sablé means sandy in French. The word breton refers to Brittany, France's northwesternmost region. Breton shortbread literally means Sandy Cookies from Brittany. What makes this cookie different from other butter cookies? The butter used is salted unlike most butter cookies that call for unsalted butter. The salt is an important ingredient as well as the butter. For authenticity the butter should be of the European type which has an 82% butterfat content vs. American type butters which are mandated to be at least 80% butterfat. The higher butterfat content makes the cookies even more buttery. What is the texture of the Sablé Breton? The cookies have a crisp and crumbly texture with an over the top buttery taste and a melt in your mouth quality that will have you reaching for more than one. Expert Tips The butter should be refrigerator cold when adding it to the dry ingredients. To cut out the cookies, chill the dough until firm. Do not freeze. Roll between wax paper. Cut the cookies into the desired size. Without removing the cookies from the surrounding dough, freeze the whole thing keeping it on the bottom paper. Simply pop the cookies out. Bring the scraps together when thawed, re-roll and continue to make more cookies. The cross hatch design and brushing the cookies with the egg wash gives them the traditional Sablé Breton finish. The Dragon God of Renewal, Vorel
Tumblr media
Vorel, my dragon world's god of renewal and new life, son of Io resurrected by Tiamat, patron saint of whelps!
Anyway, here's some more context, and maybe a story:
Sometimes on Twitter I'll write little dragon scenarios and worldbuilding that I can't seem to draw out at my glacial pace, nor get commissioned with my light wallet. I notice Easter comes around and I want to do one related to it, but I feel it awkward doing Easter in a world which while the holiday is based in Christianity, the world has tangible gods. These tangible gods I basically ripped off the ones from DnD (Io, then Bahamut and Tiamat), and gave my own spin on them. This is where I find a blurb that says that Vorel was Io's creation earlier than Bahamut and Tiamat, more innocent than the two but still loved by Io all the same. Indeed, just as it is there, the feud between Bahamut and Tiamat builds because of the latter's jealousy over the former giving so much love and attention towards Vorel, and just the same Tiamat kills Vorel and frames Bahamut, but Io knows all and banishes her. Just the same, this starts many years of rift and history between Tiamat's chromatic dragon army and that of Bahamut's metallics.
Here is where D&D and I converge: Fast forward to the waning days of the medieval era. Many wars, famine, strife, and glory not only of dragons but of many races later; but now the Black Death has come and ravaged the medieval population all over. Tensions between dragons and humans already strained, for the next couple of centuries humans would start hunting down dragons in a fever pitch, metallic and chromatic alike. Indeed, a weary Tiamat, her cunning and evil worn down by the changing times, does what she previously thought unthinkable; go to Io's temple and ask for his and Bahamut's forgiveness in one last desperate gambit, knowing full well that she had done too much over the many ages to warrant it. However, Io and Bahamut are more than forgiving, the latter willing to open his heart back up even to the most intense of rivals. Bahamut and Tiamat embrace, and Vorel's ghost appears to them; he also embraces the dragons and especially Tiamat. Vorel then offers to be resurrected as an egg as a token of his forgiveness, and Tiamat, though unfamiliar with feelings of love and motherhood, accepts. The desperate gambit is a success: Bahamut and Tiamat create a new distant world along with Io, with many diverse landscapes, double the size of Earth, and several smaller moons.
Once they get to the new world, Tiamat lays the egg, and sometime later, Vorel hatches anew and begins his second chance at life. This signals a fresh start for both Tiamat and Vorel, and of dragons as a whole; distinction between chromatic and metallic becomes blurred, and both types live together, beget each other, and enjoy their company (of course, some factions that resent this union will exist, but that's another story for another time). Indeed, she raises him as her son, learning how to love and how to be a mother. And they visit Bahamut, and even Io, a lot, too!
Vorel, being a dragon god, focuses on renewal and of new life, as well as being a patron saint of childhood too; many holidays that celebrate these concepts he loves to celebrate as well, and involve stories involving him and the elder dragon gods. Some say his adoration for bunnies is the source of the dragon world's concept of Easter, or in some places within known as "Voreltide". While his scales are light blue and silver, they give off a bit of a rainbow sheen; his pupils, horns, footpads, sails of his wings, etc. shine with each known color and possible dragon color; the tailtip is diamond on one side, spade/heart on another, club on another, signifying the possible tailtips dragons can have. Dragon gods have a special birthmark which can sometimes be hard to see, but is prominent somewhere on his body; Vorel's is of a dragon's egg right by the base of his tail. While he's been alive for several hundred dragon years (also as long as the dragon world has been around), he maintains an innocent and childlike mindset, and very rarely seen outside of a whelp form.
So of course, it's very hard to translate all of this when you're working with colored pencils, but I hope this does it well enough. Hope you enjoy!

The Unknown Muggleborn - Chapter 10
Tumblr media
3rd Person POV
Quirrell, however, must have been braver than Harry, Ron, and Hermione had thought. In the weeks that follow he did seem to be getting paler and thinner, but it didn't look as though he had cracked it.
Every time they pass the third-floor corridor, Harry and Ron would press their ears to the door to check that Fluffy is growling inside.
Whenever Harry passes Quirrell he gives him a small smile, and Ron started telling people off for his stutter.
Hermione and (Y/n) had more on their minds than the Sorcerer's Stone. Hermione had started drawing up study schedules and the two had been color-coding all their notes. Ron and Harry watch in amazement as (Y/n) launches into some complicated Potions thing at Hermione's request and the brunette begins jotting down notes.
Harry and wouldn't have minded, but Hermione kept nagging them to do the same.
"Hermione, the exams are ages away."
"Ten weeks," Hermione snaps.
"That's not ages," (Y/n) pipes up, "that's like a second to Nicholas Flamel."
"But we're not six hundred years old," Ron reminds her. "Anyway, what are you four studying for, you all ready know it all!"
"What are we studying for?" (Y/n) exclaims. "Are you crazy? You realize we need to pass these exams to get into our second year? They're very important, we should have started studying a month ago."
"I don't know what's gotten into me," Hermione chimes in.
Unfortunately, the teachers seem to be thinking along the same lines as Hermione and (Y/n). They pile so much homework on them that the Easter holidays weren't nearly as much fun as the Christmas ones. It is hard to relax with Hermione and (Y/n) next to you reciting the twelve uses of dragon's blood or practicing wand movements. Moaning and yawning, Harry and Ron spent most of their free time in the library with them, trying to get through all their extra work.
"I'll never remember this," Ron bursts out one afternoon, throwing down his quill and looking longingly out of the library windows. It is the first really fine day they'd had in months. The sky is a clear, forget-me-not blue, and there is a feeling in the air of summer coming.
Harry, who is looking up "Dittany" in One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, didn't look up until he hears Ron says, "Hagrid! What are you doing in the library?"
Hagrid shuffles into view, hiding something behind his back. He looks very out of place in his moleskin overcoat.
"Jus' lookin'," he says, in a shifty voice that gets their interest at once. "An'what're you lot up ter?" He looks suddenly suspicious. "Yer not still lookin' fer Nicolas Flamel, are yeh?"
"Oh, we found out who he is ages ago," says Ron impressively. "And we know what that dog's guarding, it's a Sorcerer's St —"
"Shhhh!" Hagrid looks around quickly to see if anyone is listening."Don' go shoutin' about it, what's the matter with yeh?"
"There are a few things we wanted to ask you, as a matter of fact," says Harry, "about what's guarding the Stone, apart from Fluffy -"
"Don't rope me into this," (Y/n) says, not looking up from her potions notes.
"SHHH!" says Hagrid again. "Listen - come an' see me later, I'm not promisin' I'll tell yeh anythin', mind, but don' go rabbitin' about it in here, studens aren' s'pposed ter know. They'll think I've told yeh-"
"See you later, then," says Harry.
Hagrid shuffles off.
"What was he hiding behind his back?" says Hermione thoughtfully.
"Do you think it had anything to do with the Stone?" Harry wonders.
"I'm going to see what section he was in," says Ron, who'd had enough of working. He comes back a minute later with a pile of books in his arms and slams them down on the table. "Dragons!" he whispers. "Hagrid was looking up stuff about dragons!Look at these: Dragon Species of Great Britain and Ireland; From Egg to Inferno, A Dragon Keeper's Guide."
"Hagrid's always wanted a dragon, he told me so the first time I ever met him."
"But it's against our laws," (Y/n) comments, still gazing down at her notes, Snape had told her that he was giving her a more advanced exam than everyone else's. "Dragon breeding was outlawed by the Warlocks' Convention of 1709."
"Everyone knows that," Ron agrees. "It's hard to stop Muggles from noticing us if we're keeping dragons in the back garden - anyway, you can't tame dragons, it's dangerous. You should see the burns Charlie's got of wild ones in Romania."
"But there aren't wild dragons in Britain?" asks Harry.
"Of course there are," says Ron. "Common Welsh Green and Hebridean Blacks. The Ministry of Magic has a job hushing them up, I can tell you. Our kind have to keep putting spells on Muggles have spotted them, to make them forget."
"So what on earth is Hagrid up to?" wonders Hermione wonders aloud.
. . .
When they knock on the gamekeeper's hut an hour later, they are surprised to see that ll the curtains are closed. Hagrid calls, "Who is it?" before he had let them in, and then shuts the door quickly behind them.
It is stifling hot inside, and (Y/n) rolls up the sleeves of her shirt and Fang jumps into her lap.
"So - yeh wanted to ask me something?"
"Yes," says Harry, seeing no point in beating around the bush. "We were -"
"Not me, just to be clear," (Y/n) interjects and Hagrid glances gratefully at her.
"Wondering," Harry continues, "if you could tell us what's guarding eh Sorcerer's Stone apart from Fluffy."
Hagrid frowns at him. "O' course I can't," he says. "Number one, I don' know meself. Number two, yeh know too much already, so I wouldn' tell yeh if I could. That Stone's here fer a good reason. It was almost stolen outta Gringotts — Is'ppose yeh've worked that out an' all? Beats me how yeh even know abou' Fluffy."
"Oh, come on, Hagrid, you might want to tell us," Hermione begins."But you do know, you know everything that goes on around here," she finishes in a warm, flattering voice. Hagrid's beard twitches and they can tell he is smiling."We only wondered who had done the guarding, really," Hermione continues. "We wondered who Dumbledore had trusted enough to help him, apart from you."
Hagrid's chest swells at the last words and Harry and Ron beam at Hermione, (Y/n) scratching Fang behind the ears.
"Well, I don' s'pose it could hurt ter tell yeh that . . . let's see . . . he borrowed Fluffy from me . . . then some o' the teachers did enchantments . . .Professor Sprout — Professor Flitwick — Professor McGonagall —" he ticks them off on his fingers, "Professor Quirrell — an' Dumbledore himself did somethin', o' course. Hang on, I've forgotten someone. Oh yeah, Professor Snape."
"Snape?" Harry asks.
"Yeah — yer not still on abou' that, are yeh? Look, Snape helped protect the Stone, he's not about ter steal it."
Harry knows Ron and Hermione are thinking the same as he is. If Snape had been in on protecting the Stone, it must have been easy to find out how the other teachers had guarded it. He probably knew everything — except, it seemed, Quirrell's spell and how to get past Fluffy.
"You're the only one who knows how to get past Fluffy, aren't you, Hagrid?" asks Harry anxiously. "And you wouldn't tell anyone, would you? Not even one of the teachers?"
"Not a soul knows except me an' Dumbledore," says Hagrid proudly.
"Well, that's something," Harry mutters to the others, (Y/n) rolling her eyes. "Hagrid, can we have a window open? I'm boiling."
"Can't, Harry, sorry," says Hagrid. (Y/n) notices him glance at the fire, and she looks at it, too.
"Hagrid — what's that?" But she already knows what is. In the very heart of the fire, underneath the kettle, is a huge, black egg. She nudges Fang off her and crouches in front of the fire.
"Ah," says Hagrid, fiddling nervously with his beard, "That's — er . . ."
"Where did you get it, Hagrid?" (Y/n) asks, studying the black egg.
"It must've cost you a fortune," Ron pipes up, crouching beside (Y/n).
"Won it," answers Hagrid. "Las' night. I was down in the village havin' a few drinks an' got into a game o' cards with a stranger. Think he was quite glad ter get rid of it, ter be honest."
"But what are you going to do with it when it's hatched?" wonders Hermione.
"Well, I've bin doin' some readin'," says Hagrid, pulling a large book from under his pillow. "Got this outta the library — Dragon Breeding for Pleasure and Profit — it's a bit outta date, o' course, but it's all in here. Keep the eggi n the fire, 'cause their mothers breathe on 'em, see, an' when it hatches, feed it on a bucket o' brandy mixed with chicken blood every half hour. An' see here — how ter recognize diff'rent eggs — what I got there's a Norwegian Ridgeback. They're rare, them."
Hagrid looks very pleased with himself, but Hermione doesn't look pleased at all. "Hagrid," she exclaims, "you live in a wooden house!" But Hagrid isn't listening. He is humming merrily as he stokes the fire.
. . .
So now they have something else to worry about: what might happen to Hagrid if anyone found out he's hiding an illegal dragon in his hut.
"Wonder what it's like to have a peaceful life," Ron sighs, as evening after evening they struggle through all the extra homework they were getting. Hermione had started making study schedules for Harry and Ron, too. And it was driving them nuts.
Then, one breakfast time, Hedwig brings Harry a note from Hagrid. He had written only two words: It's hatching.
Ron wanted to skip Herbology and go straight down to the hut, but Hermione wouldn't hear of it.
"Hermione, how many times in our lives are we going to see a dragon hatching?" Ron asks.
"We've got lessons, we'll get into trouble, and that's nothing to what Hagrid's going to be in when someone finds out what he's doing -"
"Shut up!" Harry whispers.
Malfoy was only a few feet away and he had stopped dead to listen. (Y/n) turns to give him a glare and the blond scampers off, reminding (Y/n) of a little ferret.
Ron and Hermione argue all the way to Herbology and in the end, she agrees to run down Hagrid's with the other five during morning break. When the bell sounds from the castle at the end of their lesson, the three of them drop their trowels at once and hurry through the grounds to the edge of the forest. Hagrid greet them, looking flushed and excited.
"It's nearly out," Hagrid ushers them inside.
The egg is lying on the table. There are deep cracks in it. Something is moving inside; a funny clicking noise was coming from it.
The five draw their chairs up to the table and watch with bated breath.
All at once there is a scraping noise and the egg splits open. The baby dragon flops onto the table. It isn't exactly pretty, Harry thinks. It's spiny wings are huge compared to it's skinny jet body, it has a long snout with wide nostrils, the stubs of horns and bulging, orange eyes.
It sneezes, a couple of sparks flying out of it's snout.
"Isn't he beautiful?" Hagrid murmurs. He reaches out a hand to stroke the dragon's head. It snaps at his fingers, showing pointed fangs. "Bless him, look, he knows his mummy!" exclaims Hagrid.
"Hagrid," says Hermione, "how fast do Norwegian Ridgebacks grow, exactly?"
Hagrid is about to answer when the color suddenly drained from his face - he leaps to his feet and runs to the window.
"What's the matter?" (Y/n) asks.
"Someone was lookin' through the gap in the curtains - it's a kid - he's runnin' back up ter the school."
(Y/n) bolts to the door and looks out. Even at a distance there is no mistaking him.
Malfoy had seen the dragon.
. . .
Something about the smile lurking on Malfoy's face during the last week made Harry, Ron, Hermione and (Y/n) very nervous. They spend most of their free time in Hagrid's darkened hut, trying to reason with him.
"Just let him go," Harry urges.
"I can't he'll die," Hagrid says. "He's too little."
They look at the dragon. It had grown three times in length in just a week, smoke furling out of its nostrils. Hagrid hadn't been doing his gamekeeping duties because the dragon was keeping him so busy. There are empty brandy bottles and chicken feathers all over the floor.
"I've decided to call him Norbert," says Hagrid, looking at the dragon with misty eyes. "He really knows me now, watch. Norbert! Norbert! Where's Mummy?"
"He's lost his marbles," Ron mutters in Harry's ear.
"Hagrid," says Hermione loudly, "give it two weeks and Norbert's going to be as long as your house. Malfoy could go to Dumbledore at any moment."
Hagrid bites his lip. "I — I know I can't keep him forever, but I can't jus' dump him, I can't."
Harry suddenly turns to Ron."Charlie," he says.
"You're losing it, too," said Ron. "I'm Ron, remember?"
"No — Charlie — your brother, Charlie. In Romania. Studying dragons. We could send Norbert to him. Charlie can take care of him and then put him back in the wild!"
"Brilliant!" exclaims Ron. "How about it, Hagrid?"
And in the end, Hagrid agrees that they could send an owl to Charlie to ask him.
The following week drags by. Wednesday night found Hermione, Harry, and (Y/n) sitting alone in the common room, long after everyone else had gone to bed. The clock on the wall had just chimed midnight when the portrait hole burst open. Ron appears out of nowhere as he pulled off Harry's Invisibility Cloak. He had been down at Hagrid's hut, helping him feed Norbert, who was now eating dead rats by the crate.
"It bit me!" he says, showing them his hand, which was wrapped in a bloody handkerchief. "I'm not going to be able to hold a quill for a week. I tell you, that dragon's the most horrible animal I've ever met, but the way Hagrid goes on about it, you'd think it was a fluffy little bunny rabbit. When it bit me he told me off for frightening it. And when I left, he was singing it a lullaby."
There is a tap on the dark window.
"It's Hedwig!" (Y/n) says, hurrying to let her in. "She'll have Charlie's answer!"
The six of them put their heads together to read the note.
Dear Ron,
How are you? Thanks for the letter — I'd be glad to take the Norwegian Ridgeback, but it won't be easy getting him here. I think the best thing will be to send him over with some friends of mine who are coming to visit me next week. Trouble is, they mustn't be seen carrying an illegal dragon.
Could you get the Ridgeback up the tallest tower at midnight on Saturday? They can meet you there and take him away while it's till dark.
Send me an answer as soon as possible.
Love, Charlie
They look at one another.
"We've got the Invisibility Cloak," says Harry. "It shouldn't be too difficult - I think the cloak's big enough to cover three of us and Norbert."
It was a mark of how bad the last week had been that the other five agree with him. Anything to get rid of Norbert - and Malfoy.
There was a hitch. By the next morning, Ron's bitten hand had swollen to twice its usual size. He didn't know whether it was safe to go to Madam Pomfrey - would she recognize a dragon bite? By the afternoon, though, he had no choice. The cut had turned a nasty shade of green. It looked as if Norbert's fangs were poisonous.
Harry, Hermione, and (Y/n) rush up to the hospital wing at the end of the day to find Ron in a terrible state in bed.
"It's not just my hand," he whispers, "although that feels like it's about to fall off. Malfoy told Madam Pomfrey he wanted to borrow one of my books so he could come and have a good laugh at me. He kept threatening to tell her what really bit me — I've told her it was a dog, but I don't think she believes me — I shouldn't have hit him at the Quidditch match, that's why he's doing this."
The other three try to calm Ron down.
"It'll all be over at midnight on Saturday," says Iliana gently, but this didn't soothe Ron at all. On the contrary, he sits bolt upright and broke into a sweat.
"Midnight on Saturday!" he says in a hoarse voice. "Oh no — oh no —I've just remembered — Charlie's letter was in that book Malfoy took, he's going to know we're getting rid of Norbert."
The others didn't get a chance to answer. Madam Pomfrey came over at that moment and made them leave, saying Ron needed sleep.
. . .
"It's too late to change the plan now," (Y/n) murmurs to the others. "We haven't got time to send Charlie another owl."
"This could be our only chance to get rid of Norbert," Harry adds. "We'll have to risk it, and we have got the Invisibility Cloak, Malfoy doesn't know about that."
They find Fang sitting outside with a bandaged tail when they go to tell Hagrid, who opens a window to talk to them.
(Y/n) crouches beside the large boarhound, scratching behind Fang's ears.
"I won't let you in," Hagrid puffs. "Norbert's at a tricky stage — nothin' I can't handle."
When they tell him about Charlie's letter, his eyes fill with tears, although that might have just been because Norbert had just bitten him on the leg.
"Aargh! It's all right, he only got my boot — jus' playin'— he's only a baby, after all."
The 'baby' bangs its tail on the wall, making the windows rattle. Harry, Hermione, and (Y/n) walk back to the castle, feeling as though Saturday couldn't come quickly enough.
. . .
They would have felt sorry for Hagrid when the time came to say good-bye to Norbert if they hadn't been so worried about what they had to do.
It was a very dark, cloudy night, and they were a bit late arriving at Hagrid's hut because they'd have to wait for Peeves to get out of their way in the entrance hall, where he'd been playing tennis against teh wall.
Hagrid had Norbert packed and ready in a large crate.
"He's got lots o' rats an' some brandy fer the journey," says Hagrid in a muffled voice. "An' I've packed his teddy bear in case he gets lonely."
From inside the crate comes ripping noises that sound to (Y/n) as though the teddy is having his head torn off.
"Bye-bye, Norbert!" Hagrid sobs, as Harry, (Y/n), and Hermione cover the crate with the Invisibility Cloak and step underneath it themselves."Mummy will never forget you!"
How they managed to get the crate back up to the castle, they never knew.Midnight ticks nearer as they heave Norbert up the marble staircase in the entrance hall and along the dark corridors. Up another staircase, then another— even one of Harry's shortcuts didn't make the work much easier.
"Nearly there!" Harry pants as they reach the corridor beneath the tallest tower.
Then a sudden movement ahead of them makes them almost drop the crate. Forgetting that they were already invisible, they shrink into the shadows, staring at the dark outlines of two people grappling with each other, ten feet away.
A lamp flares.
Professor McGonagall, in a tartan bathrobe and a hair net, has Malfoy by the ear. "Detention!" she shouts. "And twenty points from Slytherin! Wandering around in the middle of the night, how dare you —"
"You don't understand, Professor. Harry Potter and (Y/n) (L/n) are coming — they've got a dragon!"
"What utter rubbish! How dare you tell such lies! Come on - I shall see Professor Snape about you, Malfoy!"
The steep spiral staircase up to the top of the tower seems the easiest thing in the world after that. Not until they'd stepped out into the cold night air, did they throw off the Cloak, glad to be able do breathe properly again. Hermione does a sort of jig.
"Malfoy's got detention! I could sing!"
"Don't," (Y/n) smiles warmly at her sister. "You know that's my thing."
Chuckling about Malfoy, they wait, Norbert thrashing about in his crate. About ten minutes later, four broomsticks come swooping down out of the darkness.
Charlie's friends were a cheery lot. They show Harry, Hermione, and (Y/n) the harness they'd rigged up, so they could suspend Norbert between them. They all help buckle Norbert safely into it and then Harry, (Y/n), and Hermione shake hands with the others and thank them very much.
At last, Norbert was going . . . going . . . gone.
Harry and Hermione slip back down the spiral staircase and (Y/n) grabs the Invisibility Cloak. She darts down the stairs when she hears a noise coming from the end of the hall and throws the Cloak over Harry and Hermione.
As the figure steps out, Filch's have looms suddenly out of the darkness. "Well, well, well," he leers at (Y/n). "You are in trouble, aren't you.
Harry and Hermione watch in shock and horror as Filch grabs (Y/n)'s upper arm and begins dragging her down the corridor.

Humans are Space Aliens “Your Planet”
Some of you guys wanted to learn a little more about Krill and his planet. It was a difficult subject to write about, and I think I missed a lot, but this might as well be a start.
As always questions, comments critiques, ideas, messages, and prompts are all welcome. I try to write the stuff that is most requested, so if you want  something written its best to request it :)
Descent into atmosphere was as smooth as ever, the atmosphere parted around them under the light of the constant sun-stream. The transport ship rattled maybe once or twice upon entry passing through the rare pockets of cloud that dotted an otherwise open sky. Krill sat buckled into his seat next to Captain Vir, who sat next to a large duffle bag reading a magazine.
All around the transport ship, eyes stared at the strange pair, wary of the towering human. This wouldn’t be the first time humans ventured onto his planet, in fact this would be the captain’s second time, but this would be the first time any outsider would be experiencing an extended stay. Shore leave had come sooner than expected, ad with human colonies cropping up further and further away from earth, it became only fair to let those members of the crew home for a holiday.
Since captain Vir had nowhere to stay, Krill had offered to show the man his planet in more detail. The man seemed pleased and had readily agreed to the idea. The captain had at first wondered if Krill wanted to go back after they had treated him so poorly the last time. Krill honestly did not understand the question, despite their treatment, they were still his species, and he had a duty to return, to be connected, and besides, next to the captain, he wouldn’t seem half so intimidating.
They exited the shuttle near the location of Krill’s hatching, he could see the distant incubation building from atop the landing pad. He ushered the captain follow him quickly, the man got distracted very easily, and he was notoriously hard to rein in. As they went they paused crowds and drew staring. Krill made his way up to the receiving window allowing them to run identification on him.
“Krill, will you be returning to your duties I the surgical suite during your stay.” Vrul asked.
“Yes, of course.”
The Vrul craned his neck upwards at Vir, “And will your friend be staying as well?
Krill nodded.
“Where would he like to apply his services?”
Krill looked up at Vir, and Vir looked down at Krill a confused expression on his human face. Krill wondered for a long moment about that. He knew the man was a pilot, but from what he understood about the human ideas of flying, no one would really appreciate his skill, “Um…. Demolition….. He’s very good at that.
The Vrul gave a curt gesture and sent them off.
Vir looked down, “What was that about?”
Krill looked up at him, “The nature of our species is communal, as long as we are here, we work together for the common good; everyone has their strengths and their abilities, and must apply them for the common good. While I am here I must provide my services, and as a guest you must too.”
Vir tapped a finger on his chin, “Sounds like communist propaganda but ok.”
“What?”
“What?” the human waved him off, “Never mind, I can destroy things, that’s cool.”
“I thought you might think that.” Krill muttered
They walked down the ramp and onto the city street krill pointing out things as they passed by, “That is the seat of the populous council, every seventh cycle we are expected to meet there to make decisions for the city, all of us, it’s mandatory.”
“You have mandatory democracy?”
“Yes? You may not like it, but our system of government is far more effective than yours.”
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear you over the sound of my freedom.” The man grinned at Krill who just shook his head.
“Over there are the incubation chambers, ever year after mating season, all the eggs are housed there.”
The man paused, “Uh, Krill, I know that this is us a weird question to ask but….. I don’t think I ever asked if you were you know…. Male or female….. I suppose I probably should have.”
Krill waved it off, “My species doesn’t find those things as important as humans, mostly because we don’t have genders in your sense of the word. Under certain circumstances any member of my species can lay or fertilize an egg. However laying an egg takes much more time, so my work doesn’t allow for it.”
“Wow…. That’s…. that’s really weird…. So you don’t have…. Families?” The human seemed rather uncomfortable at that thought
“Traditionally we never did, but upon meeting other species we were introduced with new ways of doing things. Some of our number choose to raise their own offspring and many choose the traditional method. Either way children tend to be raised by the community.
“How many…. Children do you have?”
Krill gave a small shrug, “I don’t know, could be a hundred could be none, I’m not sure. Thousands of eggs are laid and thousands of them are fertilized, but it take the perfect conditions to hatch and even more perfect conditions to keep the young from dying. We lose hundreds every season, and that’s why many of us choose to do things the traditional way. It’s less painful if you don’t know which one was yours. However, after that you can petition to keep one of the grubs and raise them to maturity, generally everyone who has a job that allows for it must participate. Since my job is so demanding, I have never been asked, and have never asked.”
They stepped off the ramp into the street the human staring at him in wonder and confusion, “So I don’t get it, do you or do you not have families.”
“Depends on your definition. If you are talking about like your family, than you have to understand that my species does whatever makes sense and is logical for the survival of the species. Other species in the galaxy have families like yours, so it is logical to conclude that there is some benefit to doing it that way, so SOME of us follow that line. Others raise children by themselves with the help of the community, and sometimes you pare off with someone you like. Personally, I was raised by two such Vrul, and, as for you definition, I have a few other siblings.”
“So…. With all of that being said, does that mean you…. You could potentially have kids with any of these people.” He motioned around to the passing Vrul and their staring eyes.
Krill laughed heartily like the idea was absurd drawing a few eyes as they moved on, “No, no. As you know our species needs the perfect incubation to grow and thrive, however, there are subperfect incubation that allows for someone to be born, but allows some…. Deficits, most of these tend to be cognitive. Some are no more than children, others cannot understand abstract concepts and so on. Luckily for me, I remain a member of the class with four functioning cortical zones which makes me a member of a higher class. Due to the genetic likelihood of cortical malformation, they generally encourage members of my class to produce offspring together.”
Vir seemed to shuffle uncomfortably, “That seems kind of messed up, that seems like discrimination against the disabled, don’t you think.”
Krill shook his head, “to the contrary, each level is as important to society as the others. None can function without the duties performed by the others, however you need abstract concepts to build rocket ships. Though, unlike humans they are not treated less, and have the same pull in our council as anyone should.”
They passed by another set of staring eyes. Vir scratched the top of his head, “Wow, I never knew that about you guys…. Kind of makes me sound like a jerk doesn’t it?”
He paused, “Speaking of things that will make me sound like a jerk, is there anything I should avoid doing while I’m here.”
Krill snorted, “Probably avoid being human.”
The man snorted and nudged him playfully to the side, “You know what I mean, anything particularly rude or offensive I should avoid doing.”
Krill gave a sigh, “Captain, by virtue of being you, you are bound to scare someone absolutely sh*tless, but if they use logic like all of us do, than they will know that you can hardly help it. For me, on the other hand, it is quite rude to act against anything that is not species specified. The more human mannerisms that I pick up, the more I am forced to regulate my behavior.”
Captain Vir went silent just then, he felt bad for Krill, he didn’t mean to make him something that he wasn’t supposed to be, but what was he supposed to do? He took it as his only real option to watch and learn about this new planet. He had been here before, but now he was more fully able to drink the whole thing in. The sky was a soft pastel orange fading towards pink near the horizon. The ground around was awash strange white stone that glittered with crystal. Distantly he could hear the sound of rushing water, watching as a strange blue grey plant waved languidly from the distance. The distant mountains were a faded purple color.
In the sky two moons glittered.
It was a shocking and strange new world unlike earth in many ways. Compared to earth it was particularly vanilla for a habitable planet. Its weather conditions were downright affable 459 days out of its 461 day solar year. The creatures there were almost as affable as the weather. Due to the climate the idea of competition so rife on a planet like earth was almost nonexistent here. For every ecological niche there tended to be one primary filler of that category, or several who performed different variations of the same thing, never crossing paths.
As for the Vrul, they were also very affable. They had no definable religion as far as Vir could tell other than science and logic. Their society revolved about being a good citizen of the community. Everyone had their job and their place, and everyone was expected to contribute, anyone who could not follow those rules was quickly ostracized.
The buildings were made from the same crystalline stone that lined the streets, though they separated themselves form their surroundings with delicate architecture. The buildings didn’t tend to reach to high towards the sky usually one or two floors. As far as he could tell, transit consisted mainly of floating or walking, anything out of the city was completely public transit.
They didn’t have any form of currency mostly subsisting upon the idea that the most logical way to live involved everyone contributing equally to the societal good. It was a society that humans had been striving for, and failing for, for thousands of years always corrupted by greed. Communal ideations broke down in favor of greed, and the only way to survive in this world was by way of capitalistic ventures.
But there was an undertone to all of this, an ostracism towards the different, and the unknown or the unorthodox. It was subtle, but poignant. Krill may not have seen it, but he was a definite example. Perhaps that’s why Vir was here, because it made Krill stand out less in comparison. But it wasn’t just his human-ness that set him apart, there was something different, something that had already been there, something that had made him leave his planet to become a trauma surgeon and make the illogical decision to join a human ship.
It seemed interesting, that a curiosity, so common in humans, could be so rare in other species.
On this perfect planet, with its logical structure, communal goals, and perfect weather, they were missing something quite profound, love, companionship, joy?
Because you can only find light in the dark, so you can only see joy compared to pain.
Krill was different, Vir didn’t know how to put it into words, but Krill was surprisingly human in his inhumanity, and that made him special.

Meant To Be (In Any Form)-2
So, this isn't really holiday fic (I was going to but muses are fickle things) but I've been working on this all month (in reality it's probably only taken me a few days but yay for procrastinating!) Anyway! This particular AU's background in vague and foggy because I really just wanted to write fluff, but I've put in hints of what I have thoughts of. If you have questions, feel free to ask but I do plan to eventually do a sort of 'How it all started' oneshot at some point but for now, please enjoy the fluff.
AU: How To Train Your Dragon
Chapter Summary: It's Poppy's first hatch day on the island and she spends it with Branch showing her all the adorable baby dragons.
Previous Chapter/Next Chapter; AO3/FF.net
@writerofberk-HTTYD AU no one asked for but I did anyway??? I thought of you when this AU came to mind XD
~*~*~*~*~*~
“Whoa there!”
Poppy gasped as she was suddenly pulled backwards and the angular head of an angry dragon appeared out of nowhere in front of her. She gaped at the red dragon, with it's long, wide horns and draping, leafy appendages as it narrowed large yellow eyes at her, a low growl emitting from it's throat as it bared it's fangs. Branch kept one arm wound tightly around her waist as he angled her away from the dragon and carefully held out his own hand. It still amazed her how he could be so fearless when faced with one of these dangerous reptiles, having been such a cautious viking, never mind the fact that he was alive after missing for five years. Everyone had thought the worst when that flaming hut had collapsed and his body hadn't been found.
Shaking her head away from those terrible thoughts, it didn't matter anymore, he was alive and well now, the young woman focused on the dragon tamer as he softly spoke to the dragon in front of them.
“Hey...It's okay. We're not gonna harm your hatchlings...” Branch slowly reached out toward the Changewing, praying to the gods that it listened to him. He tipped his head back toward Poppy as he spoke, “She didn't know any better, your babies are safe, you can relax...”
The Changewing growled, preventing his hand from coming any closer before hissing and curling around the tree where its nest sat, disappearing just as quickly as it had appeared. Branch breathed a sigh of relief before he quickly tugged Poppy away, hoping the dragon wouldn't change its mind and decide they needed to have an acid bath. He continued to pull her away, trying to put as much distance between them and the mother dragon as possible, even as Poppy tugged at his hand to stop.
“Branch! Branch, come on, stop!” She panted as she was dragged along, “What kind of dragon was that?” She hadn't seen anything like it yet! “Are there anymore of them?!”
Branch suddenly stopped and whirled around, hands clutching her shoulders as his eyes roamed her for any injuries. Finding none, and he knew that deep down there wouldn't be any, he sighed, shoulders dropping, “That was a Changewing... And are you insane?!” He shook her slightly, “You don't just go up to a dragon's nest like that!!” And he hoped to Thor there weren't anymore on the island.
“Hey!” Poppy cried, pushing him away and placing her hands on her hips, “I didn't know that dragon was there! I thought those babies were abandoned or something! I just wanted to check on them!”
Branch opened his mouth to retort before pausing and sighing roughly, running a hand through his dark hair. Of course Poppy would want to do something like that, she was far too kind to leave a clutch of hatchlings alone if their parent was no longer around. Never mind she was still learning the basics of interacting with dragons. Running a hand over his face, Branch looked at her with icy blue eyes, “Look, you can't just go up to a nest without first determining if the parents really are gone and not coming back. I know dragons can seem docile but they're still dangerous creatures with fangs, claws and breath weapons that can kill you if you're not careful!!” He held up a hand as she started to make a retort, taking a deep breath to calm himself down. Thor this woman had always known how to push his buttons without even realizing it, “However...I also know you are far too kind not to help something in need and are still learning things. So...if you promise to be more careful around them and their nests today, I'll try to actually teach you more quickly than I have been.”
Poppy blinked, surprised at not only how Branch had not really yelled at her like he used to but also his promise to teach her more. Especially after he had been so adamant about teaching her slowly, partly due to his own reluctance. And, she had to admit to herself, he was probably also just trying to protect her from doing something reckless like she was prone to do...again. Smiling softly, the young woman nodded, “Okay. You got yourself a deal.”
Shoulders dropping as he sighed in relief, Branch gently took her hand and began guiding her once again, “Thank you. Now the most important thing you can remember about Changewings, besides their ability to blend into their surroundings, is they're not like some of the other breeds. They're mean and we're extremely lucky that mother let us go. I know there can be exceptions to anything but I haven't met one yet.”
“Okay,” Poppy nodded, happily trotting beside him, “So if they can be one with the scenery, do you think there are more here? Also where are we going now?”
“Gods, I hope not. They really are some of the more unpleasant dragon species. Honestly, it's rare that they leave their island during mating and breeding season.” He then flashed her a smirk, “As for where we going, you'll see, but I have a feeling you'll like it.”
~*~*~*~*~*~
Poppy blinked as she looked around them, taking in the warm, rocky terrain with some sporadic pools of water. Branch had led her to the more warmer side of the island, a few miles away from the hot springs they had visited a few times but apart from a few Gronckles and Deadly Nadders, she couldn't see why. Glancing at Branch confusedly, she asked, “Why are we here?”
Chuckling, he pointed toward a green Gronckle, pushing what looked to be rocks into one of the pools of water, “Just watch.”
Blinking confusedly, Poppy turned back to watch the dragon finish pushing the rocks into the water. She still wasn't sure what was happening until a moment or two later when the water seemed to boil and out popped small Gronckles in varying shades of color. The strawberry-blonde gasped in delight as she watched the tiny reptiles crowd around their mother happily before turning back to Branch, who was watching her reaction. “Those were eggs!” She exclaimed in awed excitement, smile wide before pursing her lips, “But why'd she push them into the water?”
Chuckling, Branch grabbed her hand and started walking toward the new family of dragons, fetching a good sized rock along the way as he explained, “Gronckle eggs explode when they hatch.” At Poppy's gaping shocked expression he nodded, “I know. And don't ask how I found that out. Anyway, Gronckles will push their eggs into shallow water to hatch because of that.” They stopped a good ten feet away from the boulder class dragons and Branch gave her a little push forward, “Go on. I know you want to see them up close.”
Poppy looked over her shoulder with a raised eyebrow, popping a hip out to rest her hand, “Weren't you just making me promise to not go toward dragons and the nests?”
Branch rolled his eyes, “Okay, yes. But we both know Gronckles won't attack unless threatened and I can guarantee that one won't. I've ran into her a few times, she's a local.”
“Oooh...” Poppy exhaled, turning back to face the herd before biting her bottom lip. As excited as she was to learn she was right that dragons weren't just murderous creatures, it was still little nerve wracking to just go up to one, even though she trusted Branch. But as she was Poppy Meadows of the Savage Singing Troll tribe, she wasn't about to back down from a challenge. So taking a deep breath, she carefully approached.
“Greet the mother first,” Branch coached her softly from behind as she came closer to the happy, wiggling mass of baby dragons.
Breathing in, Poppy carefully reached out toward the mother, who had started watching her curiously before speaking softly, “Hey there, pretty mama.” The Gronckle's warm breath tickled Poppy's hand as she sniffed at it before laying her rough, warm nose against her palm. Poppy let out a breath she didn't know she was holding, still amazed whenever she made contact with these creatures before gently scratching at the dragon's scales. “Hi~” She cooed, “Do you mind if I take a look at your babies?”
The Gronckle purred lightly before rumbling at her hatchlings, which Poppy took for a 'yes' as the dozen small, round, multi-colored dragons suddenly rushed around her, happily sniffing at her. She dropped to her knees with a coo, reaching out to pet the closest ones, grinning and giggling as she was surrounded by them. They all crowed around, some bouncing and trying to crawl on her, others licking her with their warm, wet tongues and Poppy didn't care as she happily held as many in her lap, scratching them where ever she could reach. They were all so adorable, with their big, wide eyes and grinning maws, some trying to hover in the air in their excitement before dropping down and trying to get their own pets.
Branch chuckled as he watched her, smiling at how happy she looked surrounded by the tiny horde of small reptiles. Coming closer himself, he offered the rock to the mother dragon, who happily ate it before licking his palm and purring as he scratched her behind her head wings. Still petting the larger dragon, he looked over and watched Poppy get knocked onto her back by the hatchlings, laughter echoing around them as she was showered with affection. When she had disrupted his somewhat peaceful life six months ago, he hadn't been sure letting her stay and learn would be a good idea but she was adamant about showing their tribe dragons weren't as horrible as they believed. Not to mention his deep seated crush had reared it's head again with her reappearance. But now...now he wouldn't change her company for anything. He had to admit it was nice having another person around to talk to, rather than the draconian company he usually kept, and to hear her sweet singing in the mornings or her laughter echoing around as the Terrors trying to charm extra fish from her or a million other little things that he had come to notice. Odin above, he truly loved this woman.
Branch was just starting to get lost in some of his newer daydreams when Poppy's cut through his thoughts, “So what's her name?”
“Hmm?” He blinked, focusing on the woman still covered with a pile of baby dragons.
“Mama dragon there,” She nodded to the Gronckle, “Does she have a name?”
“Well...no...I don't run into her that often.”
Poppy pursed her lips, dissatisfied with his answer, “Well she deserves a name, I think.” Taking a good look at the content reptile still getting pets from Branch, she thought for a moment before her eyes lit up, “How about Spring?”
“Spring, huh?” Branch mused, moving his hand to scratch along the newly dubbed dragons neck scales. He had to chuckle, trust Poppy to want to name a creature she now considered a friend, and rather fitting name too. Shaking his head, he flashed her a small smile, “I suppose that works.”
Poppy grinned, wide and bright, before sitting up and dislodging the pile of baby Gronckles as she gestured for the mother to come close. Spring waddled over and let Poppy scratch under her chin before licking the viking's cheek in a very wet display of affection. Poppy squealed and laughed as she carefully wiped dragon drool off her cheek, “I think she approves!!”
Branch shook his head again and walked over to offer Poppy a hand off the ground, “Come on, Giggles, we've got more to see.”
“Really?!” Poppy gasped in delight as she let Branch hauled her up. She danced excitedly from foot to foot, ignoring the drying drool on her clothes, “What other hatchlings are we gonna see?!”
Branch just rolled his eyes with a smile and gestured with head. Turning around, Poppy spotted a group of Nadders close by and giggled, “Oooh~!” She laughed as Branch simply took her hand and started to take her closer before she turned to wave back at the family of Gronckles, “Bye-bye, Spring! You take good care of those babies!”
Branch chuckled lowly as he watched Poppy happily skip beside him as she turned back around, “You are a very strange viking, you know that?”
“Oh, shush!” Poppy scolded, bumping her hip against his, “You're strange too. I mean...you figured out how to tame dragon's! Most everyone else...well...” Didn't think these magnificent creatures were worth getting to know.
“Only because someone never shut up about how there was more to them than what we feared.” He squeezed her hand gently, knowing where her thoughts had gone.
It was Poppy's turn to roll her eyes but she squeezed back to show she appreciated the gestured, “Yeah but it took you getting saved by a Night Fury for you to see that.” She then shook her head, hair flying over her shoulder, before smiling at him, “But let's not talk about that anymore. Everything's good right now and we've got some Nadder babies to see!”
Huffing out a laugh, Branch nodded, “Alright, alright.” He led her up to the flock of Deadly Nadders, their scales glittering in the sunlight and gently pushed her towards them, “Let's see what you remember about Nadders.”
Poppy nodded, steeling herself up, as she looked at the dragons in front of her, “...They like to be complimented?” She looked over her shoulder at Branch and saw him nod, a proud smile adorning his face. “Right.” A deep breath and she was walking closer but didn't get too far as a trio of hatchlings poked their heads over their mother's back before rushing closer to Poppy. She cooed at the sight of them and held her hands out for them to sniff. They were all in varying shades of blue and she couldn't help giggling as they hopped around her, sniffing and chattering at her. “Look at you three~ You're all so pretty~!” She reached out a pet one under the chin, causing the other two to headbutt in for scratches of their own.
Branch watched on, arms crossed, standing back and letting Poppy get to know the baby Nadders. He felt safe enough around the dragons on this side of the island to just let her interact and learn on her own but would step in if the need arose. Of course, he'd feel even better had his own dragon partner been beside them on this venture. But Celeste, the very Night Fury that had saved his life and he had bonded with, was watching her own set of to-be-hatched eggs back at their little homestead. Blinking his thoughts away on how much of a surprise it had been to find Celeste had had eggs, Branch focused on the present as the mother Nadder of the three got up and walked up to Poppy.
Poppy blinked as her vision was suddenly filled with a large snout and warm breath was being blown in her face, “Oh...Hello~” She reached up and held the adult dragons chin as she began to gently scratch at her scales. “Aren't you a beauty? And you have some gorgeous babies~ They're so lively!” She said calmly, making sure to keep eye contact as she spoke. The mother Nadder gave a low purr before gently nuzzling her head against Poppy's in thanks for the compliments. Poppy giggled and rubbed her chin in earnest, cuddling the dragon best she could as the young ones chased each other around the two.
Branch chuckled at the scene before titling his head as an idea entered it. Approaching carefully, he spoke up as he held his hand out to the mother, “You know...she'd be a pretty good match for you. Or Spring, even. Both are even tempered and I'm sure you could easily bond with either.” Not that he or Celeste minded riding with Poppy but he knew she wanted a dragon partner of her own.
Poppy hummed as she continued to pet the Nadder before shaking her head, “No...I don't think...” She paused, thinking on how to phrase what she felt without sounding like she wouldn't be happy with either, “They're both wonderful but I just feel like...neither are really meant to be my partner. I know I could easily bond with them but...something just tells me...to wait till I meet that right dragon.”
“...You do know we're talking about dragons and not finding a lover, right?” Branch said in a deadpan voice. He got what she was saying but he also couldn't resist teasing her a little for being so serious. Which was another thing she brought out in him, he never liked to tease like this back on their home island.
Poppy scrunched up her face before sticking her tongue out at him, “Oh shush! You know very well what I meant. Plus...” She slipped over next to him, eyes shining mischievously, and leaned up to whisper in his ear, “Why would I need to look for another lover when I've got you~?”
Branch's face grew red and he sputtered for a response before shouting, “There are hatchlings about!!” He couldn't-well no, he could believe she'd use their newfound relationship against him like that, he just didn't think it'd be quite as unexpected as it was.
Poppy laughed, the dragons looking at her in confusion as she wrapped her arms around Branch's to keep herself upright, “Hahaha!!! You should see your face!!” She tried to reign in her laughter, more snickers and giggles escaping before she managed to get a light hold of herself in order to say, “I don't think the dragons really care about our human mating rituals.” And then she was giggling all over again.
Branch glared at her with a pout, face and ears still red, “Ha. Ha. Very funny.” Rolling his eyes, he grabbed her hand and started pulling her away, “Come on, we're losing daylight and if want to see more baby dragons, we got to get going.”
“Aww...” Poppy attempted to whine, smile still a mile wide on her face. “Bye, cuties~!” She shouted to the family of Nadders before turning around and following Branch. Before they got too far though, she quickly hopped up and kissed his warm cheek, “Forgive me? I was just teasing a little. You know that, right?”
Branch sighed, shoulders dropping as he did so, “Of course, I know that.” He turned then to glare playfully at her as he wagged a finger threateningly, “Just watch it in front of impressionable young dragons!”
Poppy snorted and nodded, “Oh, yes. Of course, sir. Whatever the expert says.”
Rolling his eyes, Branch tugged her back on course to their next destination, ”Come on.” Poppy was one ridiculous woman but he wouldn't change her for the world.

They spent the rest of the afternoon observing and playing with all sorts of hatchlings. Branch had taken her to a group of Monstrous Nightmares after they had left the Nadder family where she found a whole host of excitable and mischievous little dragons. Of course that was only after the titan wing leader had loomed over her and Branch in attempt to appear intimidating, and it had almost worked, before Poppy had complemented his mate and babies. The larger than normal Nightmare was then absolute putty in her hands as he rumbled approvingly and let the blond scratch behind his horns. They then spent a good time surrounded by the willowy reptiles, Poppy playing with the hatchlings as they chased and nipped at her while Branch watched on and checked a few of the surrounding dragon's health.
Eventually the group had gotten larger as a few Zippelbacks had wandered over to enjoy the warm rocks. Poppy had learned then just how much of a handful the two headed hatchlings could be, they fought more constantly with each other than the adults did and were some of the most clumsy dragons she had met! She had been playing a game of tag with the babies, some Gronckles and Nadders joining in when one Zippelback, or two if you counted the heads separately, had tripped over a few Gronckles and rolled right into a Nightmare. The two young dragons had almost fought with each other, snapping and growling while Poppy tried to stop them, when Branch stepped in and calmed both of them down. After that, he had suggested they leave the dragons to themselves and that he had something else he wanted to show her.
That something had turned out to be a grove of trees where the Terrible Terrors made their nests and after greeting a few Poppy had been treated to the pleasure of seeing and holding the babies. They had been, of course, the smallest she had seen so far and she could easily hold four at a time in her arms. She had almost cried from the cuteness as she cuddled the tiny dragons. After finding the strength to leave all that cute behind, she and Branch had made they way back to their home base, the sun having set before they climbed up to a warm hut and simple meal. Poppy had been falling asleep in her food, tired from a full day of walking and playing, while Branch made a quick check on Celeste. After that they had both fallen into bed, asleep long before their heads hit fur.
~*~*~*~*~*~
It couldn't have been more than a few hours later when Branch was being rudely awoken by tiny claws tugging at his hair and a small reptilian body colliding with his. He made the effort of tugging his arm from around Poppy to bat at the Terror to leave him alone. The green Terror, Trouble as he was known, cried in his ear and redoubled his attempts to get his tamer awake. Branch groaned and after attempting to wave Trouble away again, simply pulled the furs up higher around him to ignore the tiny claws trying to drag him out of bed. He wasn't falling for whatever the dragon wanted right now, he was tired and just wanted to sleep.
Poppy stirred next to him as he wrapped his arm around her again, awoken by his fidgeting. “Wha's goin' on?” She slurred as Branch tugged her closer.
“Trouble is earning his name.” Branch growled as the Terror continued to jumped on him and yell in his ear. That's when another small weight could be felt landed on their bed and a softer cry could be heard. Oh great, now Dawn was joining in. “What!?” Branch snapped as he sat up and glared at the two dragons, “What do you two want?!”
Both squawked at him at the same time, seemingly trying to tell them something when a deeper more louder cry sounded from the direction of the stable. Branch blinked, Poppy sitting up beside him rubbing her eye, as he listened again. When the cry registered to Branch as his Night Fury calling he quickly got up with a 'It's Celeste' to Poppy before he was down out of the loft. Poppy quickly scrambled after him, shivering as the cold night air met her bare legs with the Terrors following after her. She jogged into the stable's open door and found Branch standing there in front of Celeste's pad with the Night Fury herself curled around two rocking eggs.
Celeste warbled happily now that her two humans were present for the birth of her hatchlings and went back to watching the eggs move. Branch blinked, coming out of his shock that it was happening, and sank to the floor with a sigh as he gently tugged Poppy down with him. Smiling, she scooted close and laid her head on his bare shoulder as they watched one of the eggs, the darker of the two, wobble more and more. Soon a crack formed with more quickly following before a loud crack sounded and out popped a small black form of a dragon with too big wings and floppy head fins. Poppy cooed as Celeste carefully sniffed at her hatchling as the baby Night Fury rolled around to it's feet.
Sitting up, the small dragon cocked it's head to the side as it gazed at Branch and Poppy with bright blue eyes. Curious, it clumsily climbed over it's mother's tail and approached them, nostrils moving as it took in the new smells. It looked almost identical to Celeste but there was a small patch of white scales on it's chest. The newly hatched dragon boldly came close enough to sniff at Branch's offered hand before giving a small roar and climbing over his lap. Poppy laughed as it happily climbed up Branch's chest to his shoulder before perching it's upper body happily on Branch's head and giving a victory warble.
Branch glared halfheartedly up at the it as it ran it's snout into his hair, “Really?! This is happening?” He sighed when the hatchling made no response to move.
Poppy and Celeste both laughed to Branch's dismay before Poppy held out her hand for the baby to sniff, “What do you think it is?”
“It's a boy.” Branch answered with certainty, “His build's a little different from Celeste's.” Said mother dragon crooned in agreement before turning her attention to her second egg.
Poppy returned her gaze as well, letting Branch deal with his little friend, to watch and see what the second hatchling would look like. It took a little while longer but just as Poppy was getting worried something was wrong a crack appeared on the smooth surface of the egg. The shaking got a little faster, though not as violent as the first's had been, before more cracking sounds echoed around them. Soon enough a nose broke through the shell and a small glistening white dragon fell out. Poppy cooed again as she watched Celeste tend to her newest baby as Branch laughed softly.
“So that's where she went.”
“Hmm? What do you mean?” Poppy asked, looking at Branch.
“We've come across a Light Fury a few times in the last few years. I guess Celeste decided he was worthy of becoming her mate. Though I'm surprised he hasn't been around if that's the case. I've heard Furies tend to mate for life.” He explained, petting the male hatchling as it finally settled down.
“Hmm...” Poppy hummed, “Well maybe he likes just likes to travel and knows Celeste wants to stay by you?”
Branch chuckled softly, amused by her theory, “Who knows. I may have learned a lot but even I don't know everything yet. They're still so mysterious,”
Poppy nodded and turned to look at the smaller hatchling as it cried out softly. Celeste carefully picked it up and placed it upright so it could look at Branch and Poppy. Poppy held back an excited coo, this one was almost cuter than its brother, with its bright green eyes the same shade as Celeste's, and she carefully held a hand out. The hatchling, smaller and more streamlined looking, shyly backed up before looking up its mother. Celeste carefully nudged it toward Poppy and it slowly approached, eyes watching Poppy's every move. When it was close enough, it sniffed at her palm before giving her a shy lick, which made Poppy giggle softly. Blinking, the small reptile decided her lap looked warm and carefully crawled into it, curling up and closing its eyes. Poppy's heart melted then and there and she promised herself and all the gods that she would do anything to protect this precious bundle. Well, bundles, she'd protect the little boy too of course.
“Looks like you've made a friend.” Branch said softly, the male hatchling happily gumming at his hand as he laid in his lap.
“Yeah...” Poppy gently glided her hand across its back, electing a small purr, “Tell me...is it a girl?” She thought so but she wanted to be sure.
Branch nodded, “She is.”
Poppy smiled, letting her head fall back onto his shoulder as she gazed at the small female in her lap, “They need names.” When Branch hummed in agreement, she bit her lip in concentration before smiling, a perfect name in her head. “How are about Freya? I don't think the goddess would be too offended at this beautiful little girl being named after her.”
“Fitting. Very fitting.” Branch said as Celeste rumbled her own approval. Looking down at the little Night Fury in his lap, the dark haired man made a suggestion of his own, “How about Bitey for this one?” Celeste snorted and growled her rider for the ridiculous suggestion which had Branch chuckling, “Okay, okay...How about Storm? Appropriate?”
Celeste rumbled, finding the name suitable, before climbing off her pad and curling around the two humans. Settling herself down, head beside Branch and tail curling around them, she let the two leaned back against her as they held her hatchlings. Poppy yawned and shifted slightly, feeling her eyelids grow heavy now that they excitement was over. This had been one of the best days in her life and she couldn't wait until the next year when it happened again. She felt Branch lay his head on top of hers and smiled lightly, she was getting to experience all these wonderful things because of him.
“Thank you,” She mumbled, sleepily.
“Mmm...welcome.” Branch murmured back before they settled down, safe and sound surrounded by their draconic family and each other.

BABY DRAGONS!!! Look at all that fluff, hope you all got cavities XD So yeah, it was (and is) a little hard to put Branch and Poppy into this verse as Viking's were very different from fun loving trolls but hopefully I've done alright with the little clues I put in there concerning where  these two come from. Anyway, You will see more of Celeste, her babies and the Terrors in whatever future fics that are set after this one, alongside Poppy's eventual partner dragon (I'm keeping a secret until said shot, heeheehee) But here's a list just so you know who's who;
Branch's dragons; Celeste (Night Fury), Trouble (Green Terrible Terror)
Poppy's dragons: Dawn (Pink Terrible Terror)
Celeste's babies: Storm (Night Fury), Freya (Light Fury) (And don't get me wrong I love the Night Lights, I just wanted less mixed babies)
Anyway, see you all next year! (Haha, new years joke XP)

Thoughts about Trolls, gender roles, and how Dreamworks gets my approval by going against cultural norms
Tumblr media
Two guys dancing together in Dreamworks’ Trolls: The Beat Goes On - episode ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Hugs’.
One of the things I truly admire about DreamWorks is how they are subtly endorsing a more inclusive, non-judgmental attitude regarding a lot of stereotypical behavior and ideas relating to gender, unlike some competing companies. For example, there are quite a few comments/jokes in both Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph (both are still favorites of mine, though) about ‘unmanly’ traits in the male characters that I really wish had not been said. Kids pick up on that kind of subtle disapproval and incorporate it into their view of the world.
But in Trolls they seem to make a point to go against cultural stereotypes in a way that I really like, that makes you realize just how ingrained they are in most of us, such as ‘pink is for girls and blue and green are for boys'. (I know Poppy is pink, but honestly I cannot imagine a character as energetic and almost irritatingly optimistic as she is as any other color.) And yes, Branch has stereotypical ‘boy’ colors and interests – he likes science and building things and is very athletic -but Poppy is also superbly athletic, AND is the leader of the village.
So there are a lot of examples in Trolls of deliberately going against the norm that I absolutely adore. I like how in TBGO they have a recurring male glitter troll character who is pale ice pink with pale lavender hair, yet he has a perfectly masculine voice. Both village doctors and the highly-respected Nova Swift are female. Whenever any of the male characters say or do something sentimental, it’s seen as natural by all the other trolls. In the Ask Poppy short on Youtube, Branch is willing to dance with Guy Diamond and doesn’t seem to think there’s anything strange about dancing with another guy.
The character Smidge, who has a guy’s voice and is very tough and strong and does bodybuilding as a hobby, looks and is referred to as female by the other characters. So there’s a blurring of boundaries here that I find myself admiring quite a bit.
Two of the male bergens, Chad and Todd, appear to be dating, since they are shown in Trolls Holiday skating together. (As an aside, I especially like how none of the troll or bergen characters are what we would call conventionally beautiful, but they see themselves and each other as attractive, which makes me want to try harder to see people for who they are, not what they look like.)
In Trolls 2 World Tour, Guy Diamond, who (we assume) is male, has a baby (an egg pops out of his hair and hatches). So here’s another example of Dreamworks going against the (human) social and biological norms.
Makes me wonder, though – is it just glitter troll males who have baby trolls, or do all troll males give birth? If so, the very idea of ‘male’ and ‘female’ is no longer set in stone. Does that mean troll females take on the role of males in the human world when it comes to making babies – giving seed? How? With their hair, maybe? How many of these questions will be answered by the movie?
In any case, one of the reasons I’ve been so drawn to the fascinating world of Dreamworks’ Trolls is just how much it makes me think, and be more accepting of people and ideas outside the norm. And since this movie/series is aimed at children, my hope is that it makes them grow up into more open-minded people.

JIMPSTERS!
Jimpsters are a Mod Fox Lorelei exclusive! This means they can only be adopted through Mod Fox at Lorelei’s!
Jimspters are fun loving lizard like pals! They are 5 feet tall with blue eyes and pink and blue scales. They are very community oriented and love to play around. They are very strong, craft, and nimble with a love for climbing and traveling to new places.
For more information, click read more!
Appearance: Jimpsters are lizard like-friends! They stand 5 feet tall with scaly pink and blue scales. Females have a pink stomach and blue back while males have a blue stomach with a pink back, much like the one pictured in the image. Females’ stomach will also extend up to color under their chin pink as well, while male’s end at chest level. While there are only two “sexes” of Jimpster, gender means little to these reptiles and their language doesn’t have pronouns. When translated to English (or another language) the majority are fine with any pronouns that we use for them. Homosexuality is also something that’s not mentioned just because it’s common and apart of life.
Their scales are normally dry like a lizards, but when it is extremely hot they will secret water and rub themselves with their tongue to help keep themself cool. A Jimpster’s saliva is extremely thick and more like a clear syrup than a liquid. It’s often used as a temporary glue in projects as it is very hard to get off of objects. Luckily, Jimpster’s have control over their tongues and they never get their saliva where they don’t intend to put it. They often use their tongue as a 6th appendage and when they hold things, they can make sure not to get it wet at all.
In addition to their tongues, Jimpsters can also use their tail as an appendage, giving them 6 in total. While their tail is mostly used for balance much like a kangaroo, when standing still, their long tail can reach out in all directions to nimbly hold onto objects or use items.
Jimpsters have two modes of walking. First is faster where they hop like a kangaroo would. When traveling like this, they may ram their tail into the ground to give them a taller jump which can be used to avoid obstacles or leap into trees. The second mode is slower and more like a walk to us. They put all of their weight on their toes and appear to be sneaking as they lean forward. They often use this when holding something with their tails to prevent it from getting damaged or dropped. These are the two most common modes of movement, but they can also use their tail, tongue, and claws to climb and swing in trees, cover themselves in saliva to stick to walls or ceilings, jump on their tail much like Tiger from Winnie the Pooh, or curl into an awkward ball and roll.
Personality: If it weren’t for the size difference between adults and children, it might be hard to tell them apart at all. Jimspters are a very fun-loving species that will do silly things throughout their entire life. When important, work will come first, but otherwise it is common to see Jimpsters doing literally almost anything else. For example, walking up to a food stand only to find it’s owner several feet above you in the trees, several birds sitting on them as they covered themself in bird seed. However, their work will always be done and they don’t make agreements or promises they cannot keep.
They are friendly and open with everyone they meet. Visitors and outsiders are welcomed in eagerly and shown around. You will always leave a Jimpster settlement with arms full of goodies and gifts, and people waving goodbye as you make your way out. They value community and if you decide to live among them, they will learn about your culture and respectfully try to integrate it into the settlement to help you feel more at home.
While every Jimpster has their own personality and interests, they generally really enjoy traveling and farming. With a strong sense of community and home, Jimpsters typically will not leave for long periods of time and will always come back, but they love traveling and seeing new places. At home, it is the skill of growing and producing food and plants that captures the heart of many Jimpsters. It is not organized growing, but just about any Jimpster could point out where exactly what is being grown.
Life Style: Their homes are made from trees that resemble bamboo. As Jimpsters live in wetter areas with trees, their buildings are mostly just storage for items that they may have and other things that should be kept out of the rain/sun. Jimpsters live in trees or underbrush, unbothered by the weather and other creatures.
Days are spent playing around, enjoying life, exploring, and what their designated job is. Important jobs, such as a doctor, are taken very seriously and Jimpsters will work all day diligently to help others. Most other Jimpsters will contribute when they want to while spending their time playing around or hanging out with others.
They live in settlements of 50 or so Jimpsters. They will know everyone in their settlement very closely and consider everyone that they live with their family. Should a Jimpster (usually one that recently turned into an adult) decide to leave for good, usually 5-6 will go with and either make a new settlement, or join another smaller one.
Traditions: Hatching days are a huge deal for Jimpsters as incubation period can be as long as 10 years. Parties are also held randomly for no reason other than they haven’t had a gathering and celebration in a while. Holidays and celebrations of visitors or members of the community that may not be Jimpster are celebrated in full swing as well.
Magic and General Skills: While Jimpsters have no natural magical ability, they are blessed with a very strong body. They can lift near 5 times their weight with their tail, and double their weight with their tongue. Provided it’s small enough to fit in their hands, they can hold their weight in their hands, but with short claws and short arms, it’s not always easy.
In addition to strength, a Jimpster’s hands and tongue are extremely nimble and great for crafts. Birdhouses, tools, trinkets, and other items are built with exact precision. Jimpsters can identify length down to the centimeter with little error and so building things comes as a natural passtime.
Habitat: The plane that Jimpsters originally come from is only one biome. They live with large, tall trees, daily rain, and no real seasons.
Outside of their home plane, Jimpsters typically live in areas with very rich soil. They like places that have lots of trees to climb and space to run. They also like wet weather and dislike the cold, though the extreme heat is far more dangerous to them than the cold. They like 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit, but can survive in 10-100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Relationships: Relationships are very important to Jimpsters. The entire community is one big family. They would never do anything to hurt someone in their community. However, when a Jimpster finds their mate, that Jimpster is someone even closer than their community. The entire community will support two who decide to stay together for forever.
While two Jimpsters that are together are called mates, Jimpsters also do have what we as humans would call a one night stand kind of deal and that’s normal and common. There is no dating, or anything, so it’s just a really big deal when two Jimpsters decide to spend together forever. No break ups have ever happened!
If two Jimpsters (mated or not) decided to have a child, they will build a place to stay and for the egg to stay for several years. The building of this home is a several year process and really gives Jimpsters a chance to think and talk to make sure that they both want to be parents. Should a Jimpster become mated to another who is not the other parent, it’s no biggie. They both care for the child and do thing as though nothing has changed, even if the mated Jimpster spends more time with their mate.
Young: Eggs are about a foot tall and are always a light pink color. When a Jimpster first hatches, they are pure white with red eyes. They will gain color slowly through the first 10 years of life and their eyes will change to the blue of adults when they reach about 17. Despite their small size and limited knowledge, about an hour after hatching, a Jimpster is ready to run and play just as much as adults.
Jimpsters never hatch alone and are monitored closely by the parents for the first few years as their immune systems haven’t developed and many get sick or injured as they are still figuring out their own size, strength, and speed.
At about 3 years, Jimpster parents stop watching their offspring as closely since the entire settlement is the child’s family and will help watch, so the parents don’t have to follow with every step. The community as a whole will teach the children how life works, what to eat, and everything a Jimpster needs to know. Even though the entire community cares for, raises, and loves the child, even to the point of the child sleeping and staying with others, the relationship between a child and their parents is strong. They will always return to their parents, even decades past becoming an adult and living on their own. Siblings are also loved just as deeply as their blood family.
Life Span: Baby: While in egg (anywhere from 5-10 years) Child: 0-24 Adult: 24-84 Elder: 84-110

Praise fuck, it’s ch 7! Here be babies and we are done!
~~
It felt like the Weyr was shaking the humming was so loud, or maybe that was just the effect of dumping a load of musical dragons into a single cavern with very good acoustics. It was Time, and as was to be expected K’vin was still halfway up the tunnel to his weyr, trying to get his second best outfit on.
You are late!
I’m coming! Do you know how hard it is to put on pants and run down the stairs at the same time?!
Make it work!
Really, she was overeacting, this shit could take hours to get going, it could take days
It could start right now.
K’vin just about broke his neck trying to move faster.
He skidded to a stop at the bottom of the stairs, mildly resenting the other queenriders for certainly being in the stands by now, and got to work quickly setting himself to rights. Fixing his jacket, fixing his hair- he technically outranked the Weyrleader in an emergency, he could not go out there looking like a wreck, no matter how much he felt like one.
Mine!
Right here, babe!
Confidently, and only a little bit hurriedly, he strode into the Hatching Cavern and took his position at her foremost leg. Good news, the candidates hadn’t yet started filing in, so at least he’d beat them to the most important event of the turn. Bad news, a fair chunk of the stands were already full, which meant he’d still been late.
I told you.
Hush.
Out on the sand, the eggs were getting active, most wriggling and shaking, one already showing signs of cracking. Shards, this was going to be a fast one, they hadn’t given any sort’ve warning had they?
They are ready.
But they couldn’t be ready half a candlemark from now? Really? I mean-
As if summoned the clutchsire finally arrived, and the sight of his rider nearly falling off his neck in a scrambling bid to hit the sands and take position, bounding forward to take K’vin’s free hand as the dragons crooned at each other, nearly made him laugh through the nerves. K’vin’s other hand was firmly pressed against Beirith, as if she might vanish in the chaos of it all if he didn’t keep a firm grip. He knew she wouldn’t- shards, queens had been known to live without their riders for the sake of their eggs, wasting away on the sand until the last babe was Impressed and she could jump Between to join her beloved lifemate- but, it made him feel better. It made Beirith feel better. And it meant they could feel each other’s pulses quicken when the candidates hurried onto the sand, each dressed in robes nearly as white as the queen in an effort to make things easier on the hatchlings.
Heh, probably would be a bitch to be born and immediately have to hunt through a sea of color.
I would’ve found you.
I know you would.
He didn’t know she would, but she was good enough to let that slide. They had bigger things to worry about. Like did they have enough candidates? What if they didn’t? What if the hatchlings couldn’t find their riders and threw themselves Between? What if somebody got hurt, people had died on the sands before? What if some of the eggs failed to hatch? What if they didn’t get enough mutants for any similar children that may have been thrown, and they had to try to find a partner among those that wouldn’t understand-?
Normally another dragon in K’vin’s mind felt wrong, like it was imposing on Beirith’s position, but an exception could be made for the clutchsire, draping calm over the anxious frenzy the pair were building themselves up to. His rider squeezed K’vin’s hand, and he squeezed back, taking a deep breath and releasing it. Too late for worries, too late to change things, there was only time for now.
The first egg hatched as soon as the last seat in the stands was filled, like she’d been waiting for a complete audience. It shattered like glass, leaving behind a strutting little green, perfectly normal (no, no, don’t think like that, just because ones like Bei and Euth were obvious with their extra parts and such- after all, nobody’d know Oebbeith was a mutant without seeing how M’hael didn’t carry firestone into Fall, looks meant nothing) who looked around at the assembled candidates like a lady searching for a bolt of fabric. At least, until her eyes lit up and she bolted forward, right into the legs and arms of a girl, probably not older than fifteen who immediately burst into tears for the both of them.
“Her name is Iwhuith,” she cried and everything else happened fast enough it may as well have been a blur. More and more eggs broke open, some crumbling, some shattering, some falling away in large chunks. Greens, blues, browns, bronzes, some appearing normal, some the wrong color, some with too many limbs, one blue with too few- using his hindlegs and wings to move about (“His name is Wouth!!”) (They’ll be fine, Bei, his wings seem strong). It felt like no time at all was passing and yet everything was happening in the world that consisted only of this place at this time. K’vin was crying and Beirith was crooning and neither knew when they’d started.
The gold egg was the thirty-first to hatch, falling open without ceremony to reveal a shining little star who stepped out and beelined into the remaining candidates. Some tried to approach her, before remembering their lessons and stepping back at the last moment, but she ignored them all. She knew just as firmly as her dam had exactly where she was going, and that was to a boy, maybe thirteen, who had been staring hopefully as one of her bronze brothers removed a piece of shell from his tail. Who knew what she said as she nudged his hip, or what passed between them when he turned around, but soon he was crying for the joy of it, arms wrapped around her neck.
“Uth!”
(We’ll keep an eye on them, Mine)
There wasn’t much left to the hatching after that, two blues, a brown, and a green, the latter two more yellow than anything else. And when the little yellow green ran into the crowd, jumping into the arms of a young man who probably would’ve aged out of candidacy before the next clutch, all there was left was a cry of
“Her name is Uhiuth!”
And it was over.
Like mating flights, nobody ever really knew how long a hatching took. The only reason they knew it wasn’t days was because nobody rode out to yell at them for not flying Fall. Or maybe it had only taken minutes, done almost before it began. One moment there was a clutch full of eggs, the next there was nothing but empty shells and babies being stuffed as full of meat as they could stand. Every egg had hatched. Every hatchling had Impressed. Lizbet and Jeson- now J’son- would both ride blue, as predicted.
It was like every holiday in one.
They are perfect.
Just like you said theyd be.
Just like we said. K’vin chuckled and leaned against her, paying no mind to the Cavern emptying around them as they watched the newly bonded pairs, playing over in their minds that moment she’d sunk into him, fitting every nook and cranny of his soul like they were two puzzle pieces set together. The best thing about hatchings was getting to share in that moment.
My K’vin? She let her hunger wash over him, and he had to snort at the little recreation.
“Are you coming?” There was a tug at his hand, and K’vin turned to smile at their companions. Mates no more, not with the eggs hatched, but maybe again some other time.
“Beirith is starving,” he answered. “We’ll meet back up at the Hatching Feast.” There was a knowing smile, and a nod, and they were alone with time enough for K’vin to climb onto Beirith’s back, for her to fly them to the herdbeast pens for a good meal.
Tomorrow they would check in on the new weyrlings, make sure they were alright. Then, Beirith would get the nice long bath and oiling she deserved.
And the day after, K’vin could get back to work on his flamethrower design, and life could get back to normal for a while.

The Grinch 2: Happy New Year Capter 2-Agatha Galido
Somewhere in the big universe, the Earth is one of the planets of the Solar system, and our home planet or home world. The world of the Whos is quite different from our world, the world where we lived in. The world of the Whos is probably from other solar system or other galaxy. It's like a dimension. And in Earth, in the country called Philippines, there was a woman named Agatha Galido, a.k.a Aggie.
This human girl is born with large insect-like fairy wings and is the only human around with such wings. Ever since she was a child, she was always loved by her family and relatives, but never have good friends in school because of being so different, making her feel miserable and friendless. When she was almost old enough, her father invented an interdimensional remote control that can open portals or gateways to many different worlds in the whole universe. Using this remote, Aggie made lots of friends that are different and unique species than her. Some are also humans like her, some are animals, and some are like cartoon and animated characters from TV. Some are also super heroes and magical creatures that weren't exist in Aggie's world. When she started making friends, like when she was 10 years old, Aggie created a team, called the Imaginary team, a.k.a. the I team, that can spread love and friendship in different worlds in the universe, and showed to everyone how friendship is important to everyone and everywhere. Since Aggie made almost more than 200 friends, she created groups according to the respective worlds where her friends lived. Since there are 36 groups, she also divided the whole team into three division; Main, Honorary, and Back-up. 22 groups in Main, 10 groups in Honorary, and 4 groups in Back-up. Aggie became the leader of the whole I team, despite that her teammates themselves are her mentors. Aggie and her team became the new owners the most power elements in the universe; The Elements of Friendship. Each group owned just one element. Some group shared the same element, according to which they represented. As the leader, Aggie represented the leading element: Imagination. Because of her position, Aggie have to look out for her team, and she loved them all like a family.
When she was 21, Aggie received a family heirloom that was originally owned by a dark god of the Land of the Forgotten in Mexico, and it's called a wand staff. Aggie's family heirloom was protected and kept by five families; Galido, Borra, Resano, Mondejar and Besares. Aggie belongs to these five families, with Galido (at her father's side) and Mondejar (at her mother's side) as her major families. Even before she received a wand staff with different magical powers, Aggie already developed super and magical powers from her powerful friends by giving her half of theirs, like sharing powers. The wand staff has been a magical heirloom of the five families, required with a spell book that contained the histories of the previous owners and magical spells they have written in it.
For many years that the I team kept organizing, the team had increased their status that each group was called by their respective element to fix a friendship problem that is related to their element either in their respective world or in other worlds that they never visited just yet. So, Aggie asked her dad to make more interdimensional remote controls for her friends, but it's quite impossible since the remote needed more energy and power for the remotes. Since the team has magical wishing members, like fairy godparents, Aggie wished for a interdimensional remote control for each group, and the leader/s are in-charge to hold the remote.
Since it was so many years, Agatha Galido is now 43, got married with one of her friends from another world and her third-in-command, which is was a red bird named Red, when she was 24, got three children and one egg. Ever since she has the power to transform into any form, she was an albino bird when she got pregnant with her 4th child, and laid an egg. The egg was five days old, so it won't be hatch so soon. Today, after Christmas, Aggie was having a great resting time with her team and family in their secret I team HQ under her and her parents' house. Aggie's parents are not as old as we thought, so they are still alive. They didn't mind of their daughter taking care of her team and family under their house. Aggie and only the Main division were sitting on the meeting table that shaped like a big letter 'I'.
"Wow, that was the best Christmas party ever we had last night," Lily said.
"I know! I can't wait for another party next year," Blueberry Pie jumped up in excitement.
"That's too soon, Blueberry," Cubby chuckled.
"I thought this is called 'Hearth's Warming day'" Gemstone thought.
"Christmas, Hearth's Warming, they're the same," Poof corrected.
"Everyone's always excited for Christmas, including us," Jet added.
"It's a good thing you two didn't ruin Christmas again this year," Saltor scoffed.
"Because Jet and I learned a lesson that we should respect our holiday; Halloween," Jack Skellington stated proudly.
"Well, at least you survived. I almost cried when I thought you two were dead!" Aggie cried out loid.
"You're 13 that time. You always cry," Sally Skellington reminded.
"Thank you for reminding me," Aggie replied sarcastically.
"It's quite shame that Mom, Dad, Phineaks and Israbellra didn't spend Christmas with us," Marie Flynn said.
"Yeah, neither do Uncle Flerk and Ferb," Maren Flynnto added.
"Yeah, well, your parents had to go to back to your world and to Switzerland for the award ceremony next week," Aggie explained. "And even Ferb and Flerk are still in Camp David. Those guys are very busy. At least Vanessa, Varessa, Thomas and Themas attended."
Marie sighed dreamingly, "Yeah, Thomas is so sweet."
Frantis almost barfed in disgust, "Uh, you do know you guys are cousins, right?"
"Umm, their fathers are stepbrothers. So, their not related," Tootie corrected.
"I just still don't get why Basil wasn't in a mood to celebrate Christmas," Jerry said. "Sure, he attended, but he doesn't seem to have fun with us."
"You already know detectives, like Sherlock Holmes, Basil was not in a mood for Christmas joy. He's always been like that for years," Pilair replied.
"So, any plans for New Year? We only have five days left," Skenda asked.
"We can have colorful fireworks," Roo suggested.
"Fireworks can be nice, but no fountain, no firecracker, no harmful firework stuff. They might blow your fingers," Leia warned.
"She's right. We don't want to have fireworks incident in the team, just like what happened to Aggie's neighbors last year," Chet agreed.
"Yeah, lots of fingers blew up last year," Smantha added.
"We can use my Pixie dust Snow ball Firework Shower spell. That's safe," Aggie lifted her wand staff.
"How about the candles? You know, the sparking ones and colorful flame ones." Fred Figglehorn inquired.
"As long as they don't explode," Azul was concerned.
"But, where can we celebrate?" Lola questioned.
"Grandpa Leo and Grandma Bernadette invited us upstairs," Amaranth Red raised her hand. "The backyard is so wide, so there's enough space for all of us to watch the fireworks in New Year's Eve."
"Close enough. We didn't celebrate New Year with Mr. and Mrs. Galido for a while," Blossom nodded.
"Okay, so we already know where we will celebrate and what stuff we will use, any more ideas?" Baby Bugs asked as he listed in the what-to-do list about New Year plans.
"How about a song for New Year?" Chyna got up from her chair, and then, pointed Aggie, "And Aggie will sing!"
"What? Why me?" Aggie asked.
"Come on, Aggie, you haven't sing a song every New Year for years. You only counted on us. It's your turn," Miley explained.
Aggie sighed, "Fine. I'll try my best. I'll just find a perfect song."
"Great! All we have to do is to invite the Honorary and Back-up divisions here for the New Year," Perry said.
Just then, Crimson Red noticed his mother's element on her I team ID began to glow.
"Mom! Your element! It's glowing!" He pointed out loud.
The whole Main I team heard the half-bird as Aggie looked down at her ID where she saw her element glowing and blinking.
"Sweet Celestia, Aggie!" Rarity gasped. "You were called. This means there is a friendship problem!"
"How come there could be friendship problem after Christmas and before New Year?!" Red growled.
"Everyone has problems all the time, Red. Including you before you became a hero," Stella recalled.
"Yeah. Thanks for telling me that, sis," The red angry bird rolled his eyes.
"Kowalski, Kelda, activate the map!" Skipper commanded.
The tall penguin and his adoptive guardian or wife saluted as they pushed two buttons together, and the table showed the hologram of the Earth.
"Alright then, where the friendship problem could be in my world?" Aggie looked up at the Earth hologram.
"Let's see here," Kowalski swiped the hologram of the Earth to rotate it and find a friendship problem, "So, there's no friendship problem in your world, Aggie."
"How about all of our worlds?" Captain Jake inquired.
When Dr. Blowhole and Dr. Blest typed something on the keyboards, the hologram showed a live footage of every world that the I team lived.
"Okay. The New York City and Central Park Zoo is okay. No friendship problem," said the reformed villain dolphin.
"Not even in Halloween town," Samuel checked on the footage of his and his family's home world or home town.
"The Hundred Acre woods is always peaceful," Rabbit said.
"Fairy world and Dimmsdale is fine," Timmy added.
"No monsters, crime or even quarreling happened in Townsville," Bubbles said about her world.
"Bird Island is still peaceful and happy community," Hal told them.
"Webster High and Z-tech is still good," Fletcher looked at the footage of his and his two friends' old and current schools.
"Our world is okay," Tom announced.
"So was ours, and Kat and Kit's home planet," Coop gritted his teeth, not wanting to mention his former enemy's home planet.
"Our world seems good too," Oggy said.
"So was Danville, O.W.C.A., and other countries," Pelry concluded.
"Including the 2nd dimension," Dofelia added.
"Pixie Hollow and the Winter Woods are still balance," Tinker Bell stated.
"Neverland is still clean," Skully scanned the footage of Neverland.
"Acme Acres in the future has no trouble," Petunia announced.
"Not even at our home," Baby Petunia added.
"Hollywood is still shining," Oliver made a thumb-up.
"My home town is also good," Fred Figglehorn nodded.
"No Devinos attacking in our town," Serio pointed.
"The Do-Jo and our world weren't affected by the master," Yin said.
Her brother, Yang, cleared his throat, "Umm, it's because there's no night master anymore, remember?"
"Shut up," the pink rabbit was annoyed by the blue one.
"Everything's fine all of the planets we visited years ago," Han mentioned.
"Starlight City has no trouble at all," Skidmark said.
"Equestria is also good," Twilight looked at the footage of Equestria.
"Did you guys check the worlds of the Honorary and the Back-up?" Aggie asked.
"Yeah, the chickens, the Kids Next Door, the herd of sheep, Pasadena, Transylvania, Zootopia, Mousedom, the garden gnomes in their world, Stork Mountain, and cars world are all okay and safe. No friendship problem at all," Clover Scarlet answered her mother.
"The Danger HQ, Smurf Village, the Lands of the Remembered and Forgotten, and the ocean where Marlin, Nemo and Dory lived are in peace too," Roy added.
"If none of our worlds have any friendship problems, then we have to search the whole universe," Aggie suggested as the whole team nodded in agreement.
When the hologram map extended, showing the hologram of the whole universe, there was blinking white light on another galaxy, just beside Aggie's home galaxy.
"There it is!" She pointed.
The hologram zoomed on the blinking white light, and showed a town with lots of houses.
"Wow, that's a pretty cool town," Bubs commented.
"And snowy!" Crimson Red exclaimed, then frowned that there's no snow in the Philippines, "Lucky!"
"Oh well, I think I have to go dimension travel again," Aggie stretched her hands and arms.
"You mean, right now?" Piglet inquired, "But what about the plans and New Year?"
"I'm sorry, Piglet, but this is very important." Aggie apologized. "But this is very important."
"Are you not going to celebrate New Year with us, Aunt Mom?" Rebecca made a sad face.
"Of course I'm going to celebrate with all of you guys. Don't worry. When I'm done with the friendship problem, I'll be home in no time."
"That's right, Rebecca," Ruby patted her daughter's head. "Your step-mom is going to spend New year with all of us. She does this every year."
"Thanks, Rubs. Now, I have to bring my wand staff and my interdimensional remote control." Before Aggie gathered her things, she was interrupted for a moment.
"Just a moment, sis," Joseline halted her, "It's snowy in that world and the town. You need to wear your winter clothes."
"Don't worry, I got this," With a smirk on her face, Aggie wore a gray jacket and warm gloves to prepare herself before going to that world where she was called.
"Is that all you have to wear?" Lumpy asked.
"It was never snow here in the Philippines, so this is all I've got. Don't worry. I'll warm myself when I get there." When Aggie opened the portal with her remote, she turned her wand staff into a sled.
"Since when Xibalba taught you how to turn your wand staff into a sled?" Periwinkle inquired suspiciously.
"He didn't. I made the spell myself. Hey, I'm the owner of the wand staff now, so it's my turn to create my own spell," Aggie explained to her wing sister, "Oh, that reminds me…" She grabbed a backpack, then her big spell book, and put it inside of her bag. "Can't use my wand staff without a little guidance from the spell book!"
"Are you sure you have to do this?" Red looked at his human wife in concern and worry.
"I have to, Red," Aggie answered with a sigh. "It's my duty."
Her bird husband exhaled in defeat. Red truly respected Aggie's duty. Then, he pecked her on the lips, "Just be careful out there."
"I will. Thanks," Aggie kissed him back and waved at her team and family, "Bye guys!"
"See you soon, Aggie." Bomb waved.
"Bye, Mom. I love you!" Amaranth Red did a flying kiss gesture.
"Be safe," Wands added.
Aggie waved one last time before she stepped into the portal until her body disappeared as the portal closed.
When the whole Main I team was left behind, they still felt sad for their leader and best friend that a friendship problem called her just before New Year.
"Man, this is a rough New Year for Aggie," Matilda said.
"I know. I feel bad for her, too," Screwball added, worried for her adoptive aunt.

#Just Paradigm Shift Interior Design
A thought that occurred to me as I went to sleep last night (/this morning) is that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they decorate their living space. The Castle of Lions comes pre-decorated, and since much of the castle is a common area, it can’t be personalized by one person too much. But bedrooms can be, and while everyone’s room starts off looking the same, I started thinking about how each of the Paradigm Shift revolutionaries would decorate their rooms over time. So without further ado, given a few decaphoebs time to accumulate things and do a bit of redecoration . . .
Lotor:
Swaps out the standard twin bed that was in the room with a king-sized bed at some point. I’m thinking four poster, wooden frame, one with shelving built into the headboard so he can have books there to read before bed. (He reads books on a tablet as well, but some texts haven’t been digitally archived yet, so he has to read them as they are.) Has a sheer canopy up top, perhaps, but it doesn’t dangle over the sides. The mattress isn’t anything particularly special, but the sheets and comforter are soft.
Also built into the headboard, behind a slideable wood panel that is very easy to miss, is a monitor synced to the camera just outside the door so he can discreetly see who has come to visit him whenever anyone has. You know. Just in case. (There are no enemies in the castle, he’s sure, but . . . just in case . . .)
The headboard is pushed up against the wall, but there is free space on either side, so being on the bed doesn’t equate to being backed into a corner.
A knife is kept under the mattress, in the middle, near the headboard. This makes it easily accessible (for him), but is not an easily guessed hiding spot for others.
There’s a large desk in the back corner of the room with a very comfortable chair. The desk is neatly organized, but the surface can barely be seen beneath the computer, books, (neatly stacked but sometimes spread out) papers, et cetera. Every drawer on the desk is locked and can only be opened with both his fingerprint, and a specifically traced pattern (different pattern for each drawer).
There’s a board on the wall next to the desk that has a collage of different things pinned to it. Some of them are inspirational quotes pertaining to war or revolution, and others are cryptic clues or puzzles to things he’s been working on in his spare time (e.g. the Oriande riddle). Others are just words or turns of phrase that came to him and he decided to write down and pin up. You know, whichever. To pretty much everyone else on the team it looks like a gigantic mess, but Lotor assures them all it makes perfect sense. (To him, at least.)
There’s also a grand bookshelf in the room that stretches floor to ceiling and takes up at least half of the wall. It does have many books on it, but it also has various gifts and other mementos he has received from those he cares about. For instance, a single pressed nimbusilde flower in a frame from Acxa, or the tall, glass display case on a plainly visible shelf, inside of which is a series of tiered platforms, each one covered with a soft material, on top of which rests a die. The dice, a full set, were custom-made from malernite, an ore which was historically ever found on Altea, and were specifically designed after the die pictured in texts describing a historically important game in which Princess Fayli shattered the dice with a single throw and, in the act, successfully defended her peoples’ lives from the tyranny of her brother, Prince Indric. It was a piece of Altean history that Lotor had discovered and, in his excitement over learning something new, had shared with Keith in a conversation that Lotor soon after forgot having (so much was going on), but Keith had evidently not only remembered, but had managed to track down the ore, take the page from the text that Lotor had learned this from to show a smith, and had the dice recreated, after which he gave them to Lotor as a gift the following holiday. Keith had thought Lotor would want to recreate the experiment (and it was tempting), but Lotor had acquired a display case and put them on the bookshelf instead. Keith was embarrassed. To this day, Lotor still doesn’t understand why he should be.
Speaking of display cases, there’s also a tall display case across from the bed full of ancient relics and other artifacts Lotor has discovered over time. He intends at some point to return them to the people from whom they were taken (i.e. Lotor didn’t take them from the people; he found them in ruins or in Empire storehouses and liberated them), but untll he can, he keeps them safe in a display case where they won’t be ravaged by the elements or destroyed by Empire soldiers. (Also, tbf, they are nice to look at and study. He’s careful with them, though.)
Quite a few decaphoebs down the road, Lotor finds a vrensyr egg. Vrensyrs were draconic creatures native to the planet Daibazaal, and believed to be extinct. However, this egg somehow survived---and when Lotor finds it, he not only keeps it, but he hatches it. The newly hatched vrensyr imprints on him immediately, and as a result becomes his new companion. He names the newly hatched creature Erebus.
Vrensyrs look somewhat similar to what an Earth wyvern looks like. They’re covered in scales, have small, claw like appendages on their wings, and razor sharp claws on their feet. When born, Erebus is small enough to ride on Lotor’s shoulder (and he does). Give him a few centuries, and he will be large enough to raze cities with little effort should he so choose. Erebus can breathe fire (he is being trained on when it is appropriate to do so), and he can change the color of his scales on a whim. His eyes, meanwhile, are always a very vivid purple.
When Erebus is hatched, a stone basin is acquired for him as his bed, since Vrensyrs like to sleep on stone (and a particular type of stone, at that). He also has multiple perches installed along the walls and ceiling of Lotor’s room for him to use whenever he chooses.
Lastly, after their relationship does become romantic and Keith starts spending more time in Lotor’s room, sometimes Keith’s jacket, or his boots, can be found tossed onto the floor. It happens.
Keith:
Keeps the standard twin bed, but does allow Acxa to talk him into a memory foam mattress cover. It’s real comfy.
As mentioned in Revolutionary, he has a collage of photos of him and his team taped up on the wall beside his bed, courtesy of Ezor. Specifically:
There was one of him and Acxa simultaneously drinking pechaya juice while using their other hands to try and block Ezor’s camera; there was another of Zethrid lifting him off the ground in a massive, full-body hug as he gasped out that he had ribs she was breaking; there was one of him and Narti having fallen asleep on the sofa together, Kova curled up on his chest; one of Ezor herself pouncing on his back so she could take an impromptu selfie with him; one of him and Lotor playing a game of Crowns & Claws, Keith’s brow furrowed in concentration as he studied the board before him, and Lotor smiling at him from across the table; and other snapshots of the rest of his teammates, from one the many selfies Ezor took of herself dancing with Narti, to one of Acxa after she had fixed new barrettes in her hair to keep her bangs out of her eyes, to one of Zethrid arm-wrestling Lotor.
After Ezor spreads the word that Keith hadn’t decorated his room practically at all, the others started getting in on it, too.
Courtesy of Acxa, he gets a potted ticarius in one corner of the room. A ticarius is a plant pretty similar to our Earth cacti (it even comes from a planet that has a pretty arid climate), except that it doesn’t require sunlight, is very dark purple in color, and the spines (which are rainbow-colored) are actually very sweet tasting, and it’s good for your teeth and gums if you suck on them. The spines grow back relatively quickly, and the plant doesn’t require very much maintenance. The ticarius  is nearly tall enough to touch the ceiling, and Keith likes to use the spines like toothpicks whenever he’s working on something.
Courtesy of Zethrid, he got a small weight lifting kit that he only sporadically uses (but that she got specifically for him to use to bulk up so that he’d stop complaining about her breaking his ribs with her hugs). It’s up against the wall on the other side of the bed.
Courtesy of Narti, he got double-reinforced screws over the vent in his room so that Kova would stop sneaking in during the night and pouncing on his face. He also got a painting, painted by her, specifically, which he put up on the wall above the weight lifting set.
And courtesy of Lotor, he had a feature added to his room so that he can, whenever he wants, have a display of what the galaxy looks like around them on his ceiling. Keith has spent enough of his life locked away where he can’t see the sky, so this was really appreciated.
He has a wardrobe pressed into the corner opposite the bed. The wardrobe is fairly large, because it’s split neatly into two sections: casual wear, and armor. Keith generally doesn’t care much about what he wears, but he’ll be damned if he’s going to have to spend time looking for his armor when there’s a fight to get to, so he keeps his wardrobe very organized so that he doesn’t have to think, he can just reach in, grab it, and go.
Likewise, he has numerous storage bins in the compartment under his bed where other things are kept. There’s one for books, one for clothes that don’t need to go into the wardrobe, et cetera. Anything he’s not actively using is always packed up and put away. (Unless, of course, it’s been left on the floor of Lotor’s bedroom.)
Speaking of things being left in Lotor’s bedroom, Lotor doesn’t tend to leave things in Keith’s on purpose, but one day shortly after their relationship became more intimate, Ezor was in Keith’s room when they went there to retrieve his tablet, and she sat on his bed while talking on about something, and fell silent mid-sentence. This was odd for her, so Keith looked over with a frown, and found that Ezor was holding up several strands of long, white hair. She looked at him, her eyes wide. He looked back at her, his eyes widening as he realized what she had found and the conclusions she was reaching, a blush rising in his cheeks. “Ezor---” But she bounded up from the bed and bolted through the door, shouting, “Oh mY GODS, NARTI!! ZETHRID!! IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!” And Keith, swearing oaths and shouting her name, was left with no other options but to take off after her and attempt to take her down in a full body tackle. (This, incidentally, did not make things look any less interesting to the parties Ezor was determined to spread the gossip to.)
(Also incidentally, Narti already knew because she’s a telepath, so the moment she spent more than three ticks in Keith’s and Lotor’s presence after they kissed for the first time, she knew their relationship changed and was quite happy for them. However, she also has tact and manners, and so she kept quiet and didn’t share this news with anyone, because she figured they’d tell everyone in their own time. Ezor is quite miffed with Narti when she learns that Narti knew the whole time and said nothing to her, of all people, about it. Like, she’s not surprised that Acxa didn’t say anything to her even though Acxa knew about it as well because both Keith and Lotor told her separately, because of course Acxa wouldn’t tell her, but Narti?? Narti, how could you??? Betrayal of the highest order, tbqh. Anyway, this is off-topic.)
Quite a few decaphoebs down the road, Keith finds and befriends a teleporting, wolf-like creature. She was an orphan, left wandering and trying to fend for herself after her pack was killed, and after forming a bond with her, Keith decided to take her in. He named her Nyx, and once she comes along with him, she gets her own large, round, plush bed in his room . . . that she usually ignores in favor of sleeping on his bed, cuddled up with him instead, regardless of whether that leaves him squished into the corner or just barely hanging onto the edge of the bed or not. Okay, Nyx.
Everything is covered in her dander from that point forward.
Though Keith’s not really a fan of most of the “Earth culture” things Ezor tries to “teach” him with (namely, anime), he is a fan of the CD player she bought to “teach” him about Earth’s music, and over time has built up a respectable collection of CDs, which he keeps in a case next to the player (which is itself pretty big and on a table he put in his room specifically to hold it). He also has a smaller, portable CD player, as well as a large pair of headphones, that he likes to listen to and relax with when not in his room.
Later on down the road, Zethrid discovers that humans on Earth invented something called an MP3 player, and she gets it for Keith as a gift. After they figure out that he can put all of his CDs on it and then some, he tells her that she’s allowed to give him one (1) rib-crushing hug at any time of her choosing. She grins and chooses right that second.
He still keeps a knife under his pillow, and his bayard just under his bed. He also eventually has several swords that he acquires from around the galaxy that he thought looked nice up on display stands on his walls, also above his bed. Make no mistake, however: They’re there because he thought they looked cool, but he keeps them sharp and in good condition. He can, and will, use them if necessary.
Acxa:
As could be surmised, Acxa really likes plants, and flowers specifically, because her grandmother used to keep a tiny plot of flowers, and would teach Acxa their names and meaning when Acxa was a little girl. Obviously that time has long since passed, but Acxa has collected books on flower meanings from around the galaxy and tries to tend to whatever plants and flowers she can. (She does, in another room of the castle, have a little garden going.) In her room she has a vase of antiriums (which don’t require any sunlight), and she also has a very tall vase in one corner with celestaries in it (which do require sunlight, but she has a special light fixed into the wall above the vase to simulate sunlight during the day, when she’s not in her room and it wouldn’t bother her). A small amount of flowers, maybe, but important ones. The antiriums, which naturally grow on a planet that can’t sustain any other life for long, symbolize life even in the most damning conditions, and survival through the harshest of hardships. They represent living when literally everything in the universe says “give up.” The celestaries, on the other hand, are kept partly because they’re pretty, with their large, vibrant red petals, but also because they symbolize remembrance for the departed, and the belief that those that die can still live on and watch over those still living. Acxa keeps them mostly in remembrance of her grandmother, but also her parents and brothers.
The nimbusilde is an extremely rare flower native to the planet Stradozyx. It only blooms where lightning has struck the ground twice. Acxa found one, pressed it, and gave it to Lotor as a gift because it reminded her of him.
The ticarius isn’t a particularly rare plant on its home planet of Haridel, but what gives the ticarius its meaning is that it not only survives in extremely harsh conditions, but that it also has the nutritional properties mentioned before---that it sustains not only itself through adversity, but also others, despite what is perhaps an intimidating appearance due to its prickly spines. (In fact, those spines are a good thing; that ferocity, that tough quality . . . that’s good.) This reminded Acxa of Keith, hence why she gifted him one when she learned via Ezor that he needed room decorations. (Also, she cares about him, so the nutritional value is good, too.)
She has several albums full of pressed flowers from all over the galaxy, the names and meanings written out beside them. They’re on a bookshelf in her room, directly across from the bed.
She upgraded her bed to a full sized bed, with a memory foam mattress, a super soft quilt, and three large pillows. She never had a proper bed before the castle and so, as soon as she could, she took the opportunity to upgrade and get the softest things she could. She loves sleep.
On her nightstand, next to the vase of antiriums, she has a small music box that Narti gave to her as a holiday gift. The tune is a lullaby Acxa’s grandmother used to sing to her. Narti heard Acxa humming it, and had it recreated in a little music box. Acxa plays it on nights when she has trouble falling asleep.
Next to the bookshelf she has a dresser, and on top of the dresser is a jewelry box filled with earrings, rings, and a couple bracelets, because sue her, she likes sparkly jewelry, even if she doesn’t often wear it because it’s a liability in battle. She also has numerous hair barrettes, including a pair that Keith got her after she first discovered that, due to things that happened on Revender, her hair won’t grow out anymore. She was depressed about it, and he bought her the hair clips as a way to try to cheer her up (to show that, hey, short hair can be nice, too). To be honest, the barrettes he chose are kind of . . . not to her taste, but he picked them out in earnest and was genuinely trying to make her feel better, and so they’re honestly her favorite barrettes even if she rarely actually wears them.
There’s a rack resembling a coat rack on the wall next to her bed. It holds her bayard and holsters for her other guns. The door at the base of her nightstand also opens to reveal polish and other tools necessary for weapons upkeep.
Ezor:
Ezor’s room is full of “I saw this once and had to have it For Reasons” things.
Giant tapestries of all types of colors are strung up across the ceiling like canopies, hanging at various lengths. They obscure the lights and are just sheer enough so that a multitude of colors is thrown around her room whenever the lights are on. The tapestries remind her of the market where she spent the eight years of her life after losing her miralean mother, but before meeting Keith and the others.
Her bed has tons of stuffed animal plushes on it. Most are at the foot of the bed, but a couple of Ezor’s favorites are up near the front. (Her bed, mind you, is just the standard twin.)
It’s not uncommon to find a small critter of some kind crawling around the room. These critters are not always brought there on purpose by Ezor herself. Sometimes they are, but most of the time they’re not, and after the fourth time Kova ate one Ezor had decided was going to be a pet, she stopped letting herself get attached.
Her actual pet ends up being Kaltenecker the cow (not that she knows Kaltenecker is a “cow”) after she and Narti got her “for free” at the Earth store when Ezor was there buying stuff to “teach Keith about his heritage.” Kaltenecker puzzled everyone in the castle, including Keith himself, and ended up gathering a crowd of the primary team and all three Auxiliary Teams as everyone tried to figure out what she was. At one point she spontaneously mooed and startled everyone to the point where most reached for weapons just in case that was a sound of aggression and she decided to attack. (She didn’t attack, but she was glad the crowd backed off a little.)
Ezor’s favorite thing about having Kaltenecker for a pet is that this is one pet that Kova cannot eat. (Not, however, for lack of trying on Kova’s part.)
Keith never asked Ezor to “teach him about his heritage” and Ezor never even asked if he wanted to learn. She just decided that, once they knew that part of his heritage was human from Earth, obviously they had to teach him, so she went to the Earth store in the mall to buy materials. These materials consisted mostly of anime, which Ezor is 99.9% positive are realistic depictions of life on Earth and are also quality Earth cinema and art. However, she has also purchased numerous Earth musical records, toys (such as Super Soakers) and other things as part of his “education.”
Speaking of, her bookshelf is full of anime DVDs and box sets (the actual DVD player was something she also purchased at the Earth store since the castle did not come with one), as well as other assorted Earth things (she loves Earth waaaaay more than Keith ever will, particularly since he honestly . . . doesn’t . . . really care much about it at all).
It is one of her life goals to name a child Sasuke, because he’s her favorite character from her favorite anime (which she is also convinced is the absolute height of Earth art and cinema and thinks it’s beyond baffling that none of the team recognizes what a cultural, planetary treasure they have in the castle simply by virtue of her finding and buying the box sets, honestly).
It’s difficult to see her floor because of all the clutter. Most of the clutter comes from her laundry, which is spread everywhere, but also she has random assorted things all over (various weapons that she doesn’t even use; weird, creepy statues or trinkets, and that sort of thing). Roughly 80% of the things in Ezor’s room are things she stole simply because she could and she wanted to. The remaining 20% is either Earth store stuff (she respects that store enough to spend her money there) or stuff that Keith or Acxa caught her stealing, and then made her go back and pay for, because “it’s not the Empire that suffers when you do this, it’s the employees who are punished for your shoplifting.” Ezor always grumbles that this is why they’re known as the Fun Police.
Ezor is a prolific writer (of RPF that she posts on a GalaxyNet website known as Repository of Our Own), and as such she always has her tablet right by her bed, since she does her best writing (in her opinion) when curled up for the night. She also has a folder under her bed of printed out, positive reviews she has received on her fics, so she can have quick access them whenever she’s feeling down. (The folder is very thick, because she’s a---nay, the BNF for her particular RPF OTP, which she actually started shipping and writing for as a joke and also spite, but then got invested . . . it’s a long story.)
Zethrid:
Also upgraded her bed to a king-sized bed, because you know why? Because she deserves it, that’s why. No noticeable frame, though; it does have one, but no headboard or anything like that.  Looks like a giant mattress when you walk in the door. She loves it.
All of her walls are covered in maps of whatever galaxy they’re currently in, with notes all over the maps marking out points of interest. Some things are notes from her days as a bounty hunter, others are more relevant to the mission at hand. Either way, she’s constantly updating the maps.
Has two large whiteboards, over which she has covered schematics for upgrades or tweaks she plans on making to either the Yellow Lion, the Sincline ships, or some new smaller ship she’s working on in her spare time. They’re in the back of the room, but they’re not pressed up against the maps on the walls.
She also has a large trophy cabinet, inside of which are some legitimate trophies or awards she’s won from various, spontaneously entered contests around the galaxy, and some of which are tokens or souvenirs she picked up at various places around the galaxy that are important to her. (For instance, she can’t really go back to the WcGoofy’s that Olliges owns, but she did swing by there once and took the drive-thru sign to keep as a memento. That’s in the trophy case.)
She also has a pretty large vanity table with a big mirror. The vanity table has various perfumes, but also a lot of make-up, because she doesn’t just kill in battle (if she does)---she serves killer looks, too. Her lips aren’t naturally green, that’s just her favorite shade of lipstick this phoeb. Those yellow splashes near her eyes? Eyeshadow. (She also, for the record, has a kit with luxury soaps and bathbombs that she uses whenever she gets time for a longer bath that she keeps on the vanity table so that none of the Auxiliary Team members (or Ezor) get bright ideas about sticky fingering them.) She lived a rugged life for a long time, so now that she has the opportunity to pamper herself some, she takes it.
On that note, armor aside, her favorite clothing item that she owns is a very plush bathrobe. On the very rare occasion they all get a day mostly off, she likes to take a long, luxurious bath, and then just relax in her robe. It’s amazing.
Related, but for her birthday everyone chipped in and got her a day at a spa planet. It was the best birthday she ever had.
Narti:
Narti swapped out the traditional twin bed for two alternatives.
The first alternative is best called a scoop bed, which is what she slept on for most of her life, back when she still lived with her mother. Narti is half-galra, half-espiridan, and the espiridan people sleep in little nooks (or “scoops”) that are built into the walls of their home. They essentially look like ice cream scoops that are built into the walls, with the wall carved out to provide an overhang to partially block the bed from view. They’re cushioned, and are naturally insulated so they’re quite warm and cozy. Obviously that’s not really possible to do in the castle ship, but everyone pitched in with trying to find a replacement, and while it’s not exact, they managed to find (and then modify) a bed so that it’s almost like a little scoop, and it’s placed up against the back wall.
Until they had the scoop, Narti had a beam that was hung from the ceiling. She would hang from the beam by her tail and sleep that way, kind of like an Earth bat. (She put the mattress from her bed under the beam in case she accidentally let go while sleeping.) Sometimes she still sleeps from the beam, if she’s having trouble with her scoop for whatever reason.
Kova has a cat tree in the room that is honestly ridiculous. It started in one corner, but now rings the room, with varying levels, little hidey-holes, and easy ways into the vents no matter how much Narti tries to stop him. This tree started as one Lotor bought him that Kova refused to use because Lotor bought it, was expanded on in a really haphazard way by everyone else, and now is something Kova loves because he can’t remember which part specifically came from Lotor. (It’s a small victory, but Lotor will take it.)
Narti has three easels in her room that she uses for her paintings. Each one is in a different corner, because each corner carries a different energy (according to her, but no one questions her on it).
There is cat hair goddamn everywhere. Even in Narti’s scoop bed, however much she tries to get the dander out of the bed.
She and Keith like to put puzzles together in their spare time, and the first one they ever completed was a 10,000 piece puzzle of the Alloran system. Because it was their first one, Narti framed it, and has it hanging in her room above her scoop, so she can see it (through Kova’s eyes, naturally) first thing whenever she enters her bedroom.
On the other side of the framed puzzle is a framed picture of pressed lyrdenia flowers that Acxa gave her. Lyrdenia flowers are actually singing flowers that will sing if you stroke their petals. Acxa gave them to Narti in a vase once, because while Narti is blind and mute, she is not deaf, and can appreciate singing flowers. However, Kova knocked that vase onto the floor. He then did it with the second and third vases, and so Acxa gave Narti the flowers pressed in a frame. Kind of ruins the singing, but it’s the thought that counts.
Her wardrobe is filled with various different hoods and cloaks of different styles and colors, because Ezor said she needed to branch out. This includes several in various shades of green to match her armor, as well as one with the Uchiha flag on it that Ezor thinks would be super cool if Narti wore, but Narti will not because no matter how much she adores Ezor, she just will not go out in public with that. (However, she has told Ezor this is because she doesn’t wish to get it dirty or torn, and this soothed Ezor’s feelings quite quickly.)
Narti keeps her stuff picked up, but Kova does not. He has no shortage of toys spread across the floor, along with pieces of kibble, and sometimes feathers or patches of fur from whatever little creature he has terrorized this movement.

WIP - Info dump, [TBN project]
-
About the world -
It's similar to a ren faire, there's a mix of the midevial and modern worlds, where wearing a wizards cloak is as common as wearing a t-shirt and jeans, there's modern technology as well as old, and a mix of magic and science. Their earth is different than our own, they have two moons and a pink sky, their grass is blue and there are multiple species that inhabit the world, humans live there, but so do fairies, giants, elves, centaurs, manticores, and many more.
-
About the town -
Their town is known as Tradeskeep, it's a small town where travellers and adventurers often pass through, the town has a multitude of shops for anything an adventurer may need, such as potions, weapons, and more. There's also a tavern and an inn, so those passing through may rest. This town has older technologies and relies more on magic than science, and acts as a rest stop, it's sort of a small town, a good place to lay low during your travels, though beware of the wildlife, and know that all sales are final. The locals are all very friendly and used to tourists, but dont take kindly to thieves or those who incite violence.

Holidays/celebrations -
*Winter holidays:
*Fire festival - Cold blooded folks gather to celebrate fire, giving thanks to the warmth that helps them survive during this time of year. It's an ancient tradition hundreds if not thousands of years old, said to have started when dragons first began breathing fire. It's celebrated by gathering together in a festival, the festivities include fire dancing, shows, traditional foods and deserts, music, and games! It also includes watching the dragon migration that flies overhead the festival, and on the rare occasion a dragon lands to rest, it's customary to offer it food. Cold blooded families have celebrations in their homes, exchanging gifts and having a large meal known as "the feast of flames."
*Troploch - A day celebrated by all! On this day hundreds of years ago, the tribes of different species came together and made peace, exchanging offerings and having a great feast to celebrate. This holiday is very meaningful to everyone, the way different species and cultures have come together, it'd be hard to imagine life any other way, especially since most people now have friends and family of other species. This day is celebrated in a simple way, friends and family come together and appreciate that they can be together. This can be celebrated in multiple ways, many people give each other gifts, come together to eat a feast, some sing songs, some do all of the above! However it's celebrated, it's just important to appreciate those around you, as it hasn't always been this way. Many also participate in the traditions of other cultures, for example, a human and a draconic may celebrate both Gjivun and the Fire Festival together.
*Oge'hnn - A silly tradition started decades ago by a child concerned about their borrower friends, but now everyone does it. It's mostly a holiday for borrowers; food, treats, and small trinkets are left out in an offering for borrower families, ensuring that small families have full bellies during the holidays, and even the tiniest of children get a present.
*Jeidiku - A religious holiday, a week is spent fasting before a large feast is had, but it's customary to read from the texts before eating. This is usually a time to repent for any sins, forgive those who've wronged you, a make resolutions for the next year
*Gjivun - Another religious holiday, for this holiday, trees are decorated and presents are put under it for the entire family, there's also a large meal on this day. On this holiday, the day starts by an elder reading the text before beginning the festivities.
*Other holidays throughout the year:
Civirillii - Long long ago, giants were seen as savage monsters, often hunted or hurt for simply existing and trying to survive. They never fought back, many died, and the rest became good at hiding, leading many to think they were nearly extinct. It wasn't until a young human found and befriended a young giant that this changed. He defended his giant friend, and changed the minds of his village, leading to the idea that giants could be trusted. This small village ended up making a huge difference to giants all over the world.
Mjfnor -
A coming of age ritual, where one officially becomes an adult, celebrated by nearly every culture, but some have different names for it, such as Ednder, Giftnik, etc.,
Infinahgan -
A holiday celebrated by elementals, simply a celebration of life, where they tell tales of their ancestors and Infinahgans long ago
Celebrations:
Anniversaries are celebrated, days where couples first met or wed, days where one first came into the world, etc.,
Species notes (basically pokedex entries lol):
*Draconics:
The subtype [TBN] are one of the most common types of Draconics, their skin tones are typically a snowy shade of white, and their scale colors ranging from red-pink-purple, this species of Draconics are fire breathers, and are mildy venomous. Their tail tips are shaped like arrows, an easy way to tell if a Draconic is venomous. In this species, both the males and females have tails, but there's a difference between them; the males have short tails, whereas once females reach maturity, they typically have longer tails, another difference between the two is that only the males have wings. In this spieces, they reproduce sexually and lay eggs, the eegs are large and are often spotted like a sparrows egg. There's no way to know if the egg is male or female until it hatches, and the egg takes about 9 months to hatch, having to be kept warm at all times. Once hatched, they are quite large, about the size of a three month old, and are able to open their eyes, and though uncommon, some have teeth, ready to eat food, but besides those traits are raised like any other child. This sub species of draconics are cold blooded, and their temperature should be considered at all times, as it could mean life or death. Draconic scales are very strong, and it's said that if a Draconic should show you their underbelly while laying down (ESPECIALLY ABSENT MINDEDLY) that they trust you with their lives, as that is their biggest weak point, it means that they see you as family, and in certain circumstances, it could potentially mean that they see you as a partner.
[In the Draconic species, there are many variants, far to many to be described. There are various species of Draconic, some breathing fire, others ice, and even energy and electricity, some have wings while others don't, some have spines and different types of scales, but here I'm mainly discussing Avery's particular subtype, and eventually return to fill in the other variants/subtypes]
*Giants:
Giants are basically large humans, they aren't much different, they just require more space, food, & patience
*Fairies: Fairies are born about half an inch tall with small wings, having their wings grow with them as they age. They can get from 4-7" tall, and at age 15 can gain minimal size shifting, from their regular size to about 4-5' tall, this is exhausting and short lasting, but it's a good ability to learn. Fairies can't fly when their wings are wet, and can't change size when contained.
[This is for my own version of fairies, as everyone has their own interpretations of them]
*Anthropomorphics:
They walk up right, wear clothes and have poseable thumbs, they're a lot like people; but still look like animals, traits from their species, and at times have animalistic behavior. Examples of this include rabbits having good hearing, cats being able to see in the dark, etc., Animalistic behavior is mostly displayed at a young age, and is usually grown out of at a couple of years old. Though sometimes their animalistic (or "savage,") behavior comes out when it's triggered, often when feeling they're in a life or death situation, it's an adrenaline rush that is displayed differently in their species.
*Borrowers:
Borrowers are born very small, and with very protective parents. Typically young borrowers aren't even seen until they're 3-4 years old, as parents try to keep them safe until they're old enough to understand how fragile their species is. When around this species, be aware of your surroundings, your actions, your movements and tone of voice, from the perspective of a borrower everything you do matters.
*Elementals:
There are several classes of elemental; Water, Fire, Earth, Air, Cloud, Slime, Wood, and Electric. This species is genderless, and they have a strange way of reproducing, though as they get older they may choose to assign themselves a gender. Many go by they/them pronouns, and that's sort of the default, but many choose to go by different pronouns, it's sort of an issue among elementals. There's not much anatomy, they're entirely made up of one substance, they have no bones or organs, or eyes- so they sense vibrations to "see," they can't smell either, but they can feel and can sense movement. It can be hard to tell if a bucket of water is sentient- but in this world you have to be careful, when sleeping, elementals revert to the natural form of their element, for example, a water elemental becomes a puddle of water, often choosing to sleep in buckets, fishbowls, cups, etc., this is especially common for very young elementals, they'll sleep wherever they can, in whatever they can. Unknown to most, elementals have a "tether," something that holds them together, so if a water elemental is submerged in water they're not lost forever. Most elementals choose a small clear marble to be their child's tether, as it's not obvious where it is, but really anything can be used. If a tether is taken, the elementals form is lost. If a tether is broken, the elemental dies. So many choose a clear tether, or one not easily found, in an effort to protect their children, as it can be seen as a huge weakness, that some cruel individuals would take advantage of.
[More species information will be updated as it is available]

Note
hey I'm here for a Christmas drabble! 🎄 how about charlie/rolf/luna?
Charlie was running as fast as he could, the freezing wind making him feel like his face was being slashed open. It was starting to snow, and he knew that the gripping charm he had put on his own shoes wouldn’t hold up for much longer if the ground was covered in snow, so he sped up even faster. He could feel something moving inside the bundle of blankets he was carrying with both arms, and his heart was about to explode with worry.
It was needless to say that his trip to Greenland was not going all that great. His group got separated during a storm as they searched for the cave where an outbreak of bad influenza has spread among the dragons of the region. There were supposed to be dozens of sick dragons, but they hadn’t been able to locate a single one, and no bodies either. Then, after the storm started and Charlie found himself alone, he saw it. A single, deep purple egg hiding near thermal waters terrain. The sick mother must have left the egg there, feeling the warmth of the ground and knowing it was the best chance for the newborn dragon to survive, away from the disease.
When Charlie picked it up, he immediately felt the thudding heartbeat inside, and knew that it would hatch soon. But the storm was worsening by the second, and this dragon had no way of making it if snow started to fall on him.
So logically, he wrapped it in one of the blankets he had on his backpack and started running.
He didn’t know where was the cabin they were supposed to be staying at, as he had arrived directly to the vicinities of the cave to look for the dragons, and he was certain he couldn’t apparate back to Romania carrying an illegal foreign dragon; the authorities would know within seconds of his apparition.
His only choice seemed to be to keep running in one direction and hope that something or someone would appear on his way, and get help from there.
The sun would set soon, and the light from Charlie’s wand was not going to be of any help. The dragon could hatch at any moment now and they were below freezing temperature. Charlie started to panic, thinking of someone that he could send a patronus to and maybe find a solution.
Suddenly in between the falling snowflakes, Charlie saw a flicker of light. It was still very far in the distance, but it was there, beckoning weakly through the storm. Charlie gathered all his strength and speed, praying that the creature in his arms held on a little longer.
The light was coming from a stable literally in the middle of nowhere. Charlie could see that there was a road under all the snow, but nothing else. He wasn’t even sure that they’d be someone inside, since it didn’t look fit for human habitation.
“Hello?” he yelled at the top of his lungs as he approached, still running.
No one answered. He reached the big double doors and knocked mainly thanks to his extreme politeness, but then his common sense kicked in and he pushed the doors open with his body without waiting for a response. He was instantly greeted with a comforting warmth that engulfed him and the still-moving egg in his arms. He finally stopped and stood for a moment, doubling over and trying to catch his breath as much as he could. He didn’t even notice that the doors behind him were no longer open until someone spoke.
“Hi there.”
Charlie spun around, clutching the egg to his body like someone was trying to take it away from him.
Right in front of the door there were two people, looking at him without any hint of surprise or fear. One was a man perhaps slightly younger than Charlie, with dark brown hair and eyes behind square spectacles, and wearing a scarf that seemed to be made out of hay. His first thought was that it must be ridiculously itchy. His second thought was that the man looked handsome in a rather eccentric way. Next to him was a witch. Charlie was sure of this, because her wand was stuck behind her ear and because there were strange amulets hanging from different parts of her dirty blonde hair.
“Sorry to barge in like that,” Charlie apologized, still out of breath. “I’m in the middle of an emergency and I need shelter. Can I stay here for a while at least?”
The other two people nodded at the same time, but it was the witch who spoke. “You’re Ron’s brother Charlie.”
Charlie blinked at her. Now that he looked more closely, she did look strangely familiar. “You’re a friend of Ron’s?” He asked, but then he started to look around the stable, trying to locate the right place for this dragon to be born.
“Yes. I’m Luna. This is Rolf,” she said, most likely referring to the wizard.
Charlie turned back to them quickly. “Nice to meet you. Sorry again for being so rude, but I just need to-” He stopped mid sentence when he saw an improvised fireplace in the corner. It didn’t look like it belonged there, so he guessed that these two people had made it. Charlie ran towards it, feeling great relief at the sight of flames. He kneeled in front of it and carefully unwrapped the egg, placing it in front of the fire. It was shaking slightly, and the wonderful purple that used to color its shell was now a pale lilac. That wasn’t a good sign at all.
“Shit,” Charlie murmured, pushing the egg even closer to the fire. All he could do now was wait and until it warmed up.
He was so worried that he didn’t notice footsteps behind him. “Is that a dragon egg?”
It was Rolf asking. Charlie merely nodded.
“It doesn’t look too good,” Luna said. “Try rotating it so it receives heat evenly.”
Charlie did so, thinking that it was a good idea, but not questioning why she even knew something like that. He could feel the two people behind him getting closer, bending over to take a closer look at the egg, and even holding their breaths alongside him as very slowly, but surely, the color started returning to the shell.
Charlie smiled. He continued rotating the egg in his hand and felt a sudden jerk inside. A barely visible crack started forming from the very top of the shell and all the way down. He felt Luna kneeling beside him to his right and Rolf to his left, both quiet in the mesmerizing miracle that was watching a dragon hatch. Charlie had seen this hundreds of times, but it still took his breath away every time.
He didn’t find it strange that these two people he had virtually just met were suddenly huddled so close to him. He could feel Rolf’s knee right up against his, and Luna’s hair brushing the top of his hand.
There was a small gasp from Rolf right before the small head poked through the side of the egg, screeching weakly and trying to come out completely. Charlie felt bad for the little creature that didn’t have a mother to help him right now, but it looked like it was healthy and strong.
They watched the baby dragon struggle his way out of the shell for a moment. Charlie was already thinking of ways to find him some food when Rolf’s head popped into his field of vision. He was looking at Charlie’s face curiously.
“You’re bleeding,” he said, reaching a hand to Charlie’s jaw to make him face the other way and examining his cheek. “The cold cut into your skin. And your lips.”
Charlie hadn’t really noticed until now, but he did feel some pain in his face.
“I have some dittany,” Luna mentioned and got to her feet. Charlie took this opportunity to look more closely at Rolf, because now he also seemed weirdly familiar to Charlie.
“Do I know you from somewhere?” he asked.
Rolf looked down at the dragon that was now curling up next to a log in the fire. “Some say I look a lot like my grandfather Newt.”
Charlie repeated the name in his mind. Newt. Newt. His eyes went wide.
“You’re Newt Scamander’s grandson?” he asked, astonished. the resemblance to a young Newt was now uncanny, Charlie had seen so many pictures of him while studying.
Rolf nodded and pushed up his glasses. “Yes. I’m here on a field trip as part of my training on snow creatures, but I got separated and wound up here. Luna was already inside.”
Charlie looked round. Luna was coming back, a small bottle in her hands. She kneeled next to Rolf and in front of Charlie.
“Why are you here, Luna?” Charlie asked as she soaked some tissues with dittany. Her big pale eyes found his and for a second Charlie felt out of breath. He had never seen eyes like hers.
“I’m on a holiday,” she answered simply and shrugged one shoulder. She started dabbing at Charlie’s wounds with the dittany. “I rented this empty stable from a man in Nuuk so I could spend Christmas here.”
Charlie and Rolf briefly looked at each other and then back at her.
“You traveled here alone for holidays?” Rolf asked her.
Luna nodded. “I thought I might get to see some interesting creatures. And I have.” She nodded towards the dragon, that was now yawning gently.
But Charlie couldn’t stop thinking about something else.
“Christmas?”
Rolf and Luna nodded.
Charlie had been so preoccupied with this trip that he had completely forgotten that Christmas was coming up. He wasn’t with his friends or family, and he didn’t even think about writing to anyone.
Luna finished with Charlie’s wounds and sighed contently. “I have some mulled wine and cheese if you’d like. And I think I’ve seen small insects that this girl will like.” She looked down at the dragon again, and as Charlie took a good look at the small bumpy scales along the tail, he realized that Luna was right. This was a female dragon.
They sat more comfortably around the fire, eating cheese and crackers and sipping on some very bad wine, but wine nonetheless. They took turns feeding roaches and other insects to the baby dragon, and they spent hours sharing stories about their different travels and encounters with magical creatures. Charlie had never met such incredible individuals; their lives were like taken directly from an adventure book, and he’d thought he had had a pretty eventful life so far. The more he heard and looked at them under the warm light of the fire, the more he wanted to know about them, and the less he wished he was somewhere else.
“You’ve seen a Runespoor?” Charlie asked Rolf in awe. “That’s one of my dreams!”
“And mine,” said Luna with a smile.
Rolf opened his mouth to speak, but a very high-pitched screech made them all look round at the small animal by the fire. The dragon was looking up at them, walking slowly away from the fireplace and to the middle of the circle between them. Luna gave her a tiny moth, but she rejected it flapped her wings a bit. She was closer to Charlie, and with a big effort she jumped clumsily and landed on Charlie’s crossed legs.
“She recognizes you,” Rolf said with a smile. The dragon looked at him and screeched again.
Charlie laughed. “And you.”
The dragon climbed higher and Charlie offer her his arms, so she curled up there as Charlie carried her like a baby.
“What are you going to name her?” Luna asked softly, reaching a finger to pet the tiny head of the dragon.
Charlie looked up. He stared at Luna for a moment, and then at Rolf. Something inside him sighed contently, just like the dragon in his arms. “Maybe Eve? because she was born on Christmas Eve.”
Rolf frowned. “It’s Christmas Day today.”
Luna laughed and Charlie started. He was even more clueless than he gave himself credit for.
“But I like Eve,” Rolf continued, and scooted closer to Charlie to look at Eve.
Charlie had a feeling that something else was born in front of the three of them that day besides Eve, and he couldn’t wait to see it would become.

Not As It Seems XXIV
Summary: As Hatching-tide approaches Eorzea, the Warrior of Light decides to teach Emet-Selch about a family tradition from the time she was young.
A/N: This was written for the Wondrous Tails contest.
The prompts in this one: Holiday Celebrations & Holiday Traditions
Word Count: 2162
Masterlist: here Ao3: here
I groaned as I made my way back into the city, pausing for a moment to stretch my back out. Everything hurt.
As much as I enjoyed helping people with their problems, I was decidedly getting too old for some of the things they had need of.
Saving the world? No problem.
Lifting a heavy box?
I sighed.
Problem.
The Warrior of Light- savior of the realm, unifier of nations…errand-girl.
I snorted at the thought and passed into the gates of Gridania, acknowledging the guards with a soft smile and a nod.
Of course, it was good to get back to my roots every once in a while. Working hard was how I wound up where I was now. Even if I didn’t always enjoy it, I was definitely still thankful.
With a shrug to myself, I made my way to the market to find something to eat for the night, stretching my arms and neck as I walked. Birdsong grabbed my attention and I lifted my head to take in my surroundings.
The city was awash in bright colors that I hadn’t bothered to notice when I left early that morning. The sun was still shining high in the sky though, soon it would begin its descent into night.
It was a welcome change from the cloudy dreariness winter had brought. Flowers along the paths and in the trees had begun to blossom and a cool breeze hit my back as I walked, loose strands of my hair whipping around my head as it blew.
I grinned, clasping my hands behind my back, deeply inhaling the sweet scents of new life.
The colors of autumn were certainly my favorite, but spring definitely took second.
And with the blooming buds, Hatching-tide would be upon us soon.
And here I was just thinking about getting back to my roots. I could-
“What are you so happy about, hero?”
I nearly jumped out of my skin, the words tearing me from my pleasant thoughts. I pursed my lips as I turned, swallowing my surprise, the beat of my heart thumping loudly in my ears. Emet-Selch stood next to me, wearing his usual glamour so the townsfolk would not recognize him, watching my reaction with amusement in his eyes.
I clicked my tongue and shook my head, then began walking again.
“Nothing,” I mumbled in annoyance as I passed him. He chuckled from behind me and I heard his footfalls following soon after.
Really, I should be used to him sneaking up on me by now. No matter how many times I told him not to, it just seemed to fuel his drive to irritate me further. And each time, without fail, he still managed to surprise me.
“Taking in the scenery?” he asked me, peering around at the trees that surrounded us.
“Don’t tease me.”
“And why not, when you make it so easy?”
I narrowed my eyes ahead of me, crossing my arms over my chest. “You sound as if you don’t want me to make dinner tonight. I could just leave it to-”
Immediately, he raised his arms in surrender.
“Fine, fine,” he sighed. “I concede.” A smug smile crossed my lips.
“That’s what I thought.”
“And where are you headed now?” I nodded towards the Stalls near the Leatherworker’s guild, though I was still quite a ways off.
He chuckled, holding his arm out for me to take. I breathed a laugh through my nose and shook my head at him once more, then slid mine through his and continued on our way.
When we finally reached the market, I wandered to the food stalls to see what fresh ingredients they’d gotten in for the day.
“Is there anything you want in particular?” I asked the Ascian, raising a finger to my lip as my mind sifted through different dishes with the produce that was available. Beside me, he hummed, but ultimately shrugged.
“Surprise me.”
I huffed, clicking my tongue.
“Very helpful.”
When the shopkeeper turned to me, asking what I would like, I began pointing out different foods for her to wrap up for me.
“Will that be all for you, miss?”
I tilted my head as my eyes landed on a basket of eggs sitting off to the side.
Hatching-tide…
My gaze wandered to Emet-Selch, watching him from the corner of my eye as his attention wandered to the other shops around us, before focusing back on the woman in front of me.
“Two dozen eggs too, please.”
When I had paid, I passed the bags onto the Ascian, who quirked a brow. I raised one back at him, waiting for him to challenge me, but once more, he gave in.
“Finished?” He asked as he began turning towards the door that led back outside, but I stopped him with a hand on his arm.
“One more stop,” I informed him, then took off in the direction of the dyemonger.
A while later, we finally made it back to my home in the Lavender Beds. He dumped the bags onto the dining table, though I had to quickly rush to catch the eggs before they broke in the bag.
“Careful!” I nearly cried. He snorted at my reaction and took a seat in one of the chairs, leaning back and watching me as I began setting the ingredients out. When I put the eggs and dye aside, he gave me a curious look but, instead of providing him with an answer, I simply winked at him before disappearing into the kitchen.
As I started cooking dinner- I’d decided on a nice dinner of steak, salad, and popotoes- I pulled out a set of small, deep bowls, two thin sticks of clear wax, two spoons, and an empty pitcher. I dropped the wax and utensils into the bowls. When I reached for a large, metal pot and set it on the counter, the door swung open.
“Could you help me?” I asked without turning to face him, quickly checking on the steak. A histrionic sigh sounded behind me and I rolled my eyes, turning my head to cough to mask the laugh.
“Oh, I suppose, hero,” he drawled as he stepped up behind me. “Let no one say that I am not generous . What is it you need?”
With the fork I’d just used to turn the meat, I pointed to the pitcher and bowls.
“Fill that with water, then take it and the bowls out to the table,” I ordered. “Then, bring me the eggs. Leave the dye.” He hummed as he moved to the sink to do as I’d requested, grabbing the handle of the ceramic as he did.
“What is it you’re planning now?” I tilted my head, a small grin gracing my lips as I flipped the steak once more. The sound of running water filled the room.
“An old family tradition,” I answered.
“Another Eorzean holiday?”
“Yes. One I am quite fond of.”
“You seem to be fond of them all, hero.” I chuckled, quietly.
“Is that so wrong?” I asked, leaning on the counter next to the stove, watching as he waited for the jug to fill. He examined my face for a long moment before shrugging his shoulders, though I caught the hint of a smile forming on his mouth.
“I suppose not,” he started. “If it makes you happy.”
I breathed a quiet laugh, eyes averting to the floor for a moment before I stood straight once more to attend to the boiling popotoes.
When I had the food plated, I set the pot, full of eggs and water, on the stove to cook while we ate.
After we had finished and cleaned up, I turned the stove off and set the eggs in the sink with cold water.
Later that night, when the sun had gone down, I pulled him up from the couch and went off to prepare the dye.
“You’re going to want to take your gloves off for this,” I advised him as I put a pellet of color in each of the bowls and filled them with water, excluding two. “Or they’ll be ruined.”
I watched as the dye dissolved, turning the liquid a multitude of shades. He raised a brow, but began sliding the fabric off his hands, laying them on the table. I handed him one of the empty bowls, a spoon, and a stick of wax, then placed the pot of boiled eggs between us.
I watched as he picked up the wax and examined it curiously.
“We are…doing what, exactly?”
“Coloring the eggs,” I said, simply as I plucked one from the top of the pile and dropped it into a bowl of green. “The longer you leave it in, the more vibrant the color will be.”
“And the wax?”
“Ah,” I said, lifting another egg in one hand, my own stick in the other. “If you draw a design on the shell with it, it prevents the color from latching on. So, you can draw designs.”
He frowned as he watched me doodle a pattern all over it, then let it roll from my hand into a bowl of pink water. I nodded towards him.
“Go on.”
He pursed his lips for a moment before sighing out of his nose and took the seat next to me.
“Who taught you to do this?” he asked, reaching for an egg.
“My mother,” I said, wistfully, unable to hold back my smile as I thought back to when I was a child. “These days, most people prefer to actually paint eggs because you can use more colors and they are brighter. You’ll see them soon around town, I’m sure. But, when I was growing up, this is what we did. Every year.”
I looked over to him with a soft smile. He searched my eyes for a moment before nodding, then focused his attention back onto his egg.
I dropped a few more into various colors and waited a few minutes as he began drawing a design, then took my spoon and extracted both of my first ones from their respective dyes. I set the green one in the empty bowl I’d set aside, but held the bright pink one up to show up.
“See?”
He paused, taking it into his own hand as he turned it over with his fingers.
“Intriguing,” he said, his voice nonchalant. “But rather juvenile, don’t you think?”
I puffed my cheeks out in indignation, snatching the egg away from him.
“You think you can do better?” His amber eyes lit with my challenge, the corners of his lips curling upward into a smug grin.
“I believe so, yes.”
“Fine,” I huffed, sitting back in my chair and crossing my arms over my chest. “Let’s see, then.”
For a long while, I waited as he concentrated intently on a single design, but eventually went back to my own drawings.
“What’s your favorite color, hero?”
I hummed, tapping my stick against my mouth. “Purple.”
Without another word, he dumped the egg in his hand into the purple dye, then lounged back in his seat, raising his arms behind his head. I looked down at the bowl with a raised brow.
“That took an awfully long time,” I remarked.
“Yes,” he agreed. “But you’ll find the design without equal.”
I rolled my eyes and went back to what I had been doing.
When he finally pulled it out, I sucked in a sharp breath. The smirk was back as he dropped it into my hand for me to examine.
He had drawn my initials, though they looked more like pictures rather than actual letters. Vines with small leaves and flowers curled around the lines on a deep purple background. I’d only ever seen lettering like this in old books, and certainly never seen it drawn before.
“What-,” I started. “How-”
“At a loss for words, Warrior of Light?”
“I-” I breathed a laugh as I continued staring at it. “It’s…beautiful.”
“I’ve lived a long time, hero,” he said, gently taking it from my hand and slowly spinning it between his fingers. “You don’t live as long as I have without picking up some tricks here and there.”
“I suppose…that’s right.”
He hummed and set the egg into his bowl, then went to work on some more less-time consuming patterns.
“Do you think…” I began again, pausing my drawing and lowering both hands to my lap. “Could you teach me how to write like that?”
I looked over to him as his eyes slid to me, a thoughtful expression on his face.
“I’d…love to be able to write something so elegant.”
He released a breathy chuckle at my words and nodded his head.
“Of course, hero. Anything you want.”
I grinned brightly with his agreement before turning back to finish off the eggs, refusing to draw attention to how his breath caught as he watched me smile.

Happy Hatching 1/3
Not going many places meant that eggs hatched a bit slower.  They hurried more as their holder did--it was more naturally in most cases to simply stay in a nest or den where they’d be safe, so it wasn’t a concern to him that the eggs he’d received on Easter took their time hatching.
Loch had been lugging around three eggs since the holiday, their species of varying apparentness.  The one Shu had gifted him was anonymous at first, but had begun to turn a pleasant shade of greens and yellows.  The Skorupi egg was, thus far, fairly standard as far as his research could tell, no strangeness in size, shape, or color. . . .
But the Lillipup egg grew.
And grew.
Anansior inspected it, a larger-than-normal type of Pokémon himself.  His own egg had refused to grow to accommodate him, leaving him squished and making it harder for him to push his way out.  He still wasn’t fond of confined spaces and was happy he wasn’t restricted to his Pokéball like many others were, always stretching his legs and skittering here and there to Loch’s amusement.  He couldn’t help but be jealous of this egg that loch kept saying was quite large for its contents, but he eagerly perched atop the warm shell in anticipation of his new teammate.
He’d let out a startled noise and jolted, abdomen in the air and the little face on it glaring hostilely as he glared when the egg jumped and cracked as Loch prepared breakfast.  The Admin looked over at it, pausing some conversation he was having with the grunt teaching him how to make a crepe to observe the cracking egg and listen to the frustrated whines and yelps from within.
“You okay in there?”  He asked, amused, receiving a determined little yelp in response.  He couldn’t help but smile at it, before returning to cooking, apologizing for the lapse.
Anansior crept back over and prodded at the cracks and nibbling at a loose bit of shell upon seeing the glittery interior.
The next jolt was on his way up the stairs, bringing the food to his Master, nearly making him trip from how hard it was.  Raehela grabbed him just to be certain that he didn’t fall one way or another.  They stood still to let the egg crack and pop and listened to the pawing, watching as broken bits were nudged, eventually pushed away to reveal a slightly pale paw.  The dimmer lights inside made the glitter of the fur harder to notice, especially as the paw retreated inside to tuck against its owner to rest.
“Almost out.”  Loch hummed, resuming his travel, Rae waving her ribbon arms excitedly as they mounted the stairs.
“You can do it, little guy!”  The Drifblim cheered, watching the little thing’s spirit roll over with it, no restraint in its actions and intentions.
Once food had been delivered, Loch and Rae took a trip to Maile City, teleporting to prevent the egg from hatching too much on the way.  A few more cracks opened up and the Lillipup within began to rest again, one more push going to free it for its birthday proper.  In the meantime, Loch and his squad went to a supermarket and picked up formula the newborn puppy would need.
Lillipup born in nature weren’t usually egg-born--in fact, egg births were usually a sign of crossbreeding, shininess, or some other variation when it came to otherwise mammalian Pokémon.  It made most variant mammals rare in nature--they often still needed their parents after being born, needing milk and other supports despite the safety of the egg.  Lillipup were born blind and weren’t particularly ready for the world when they came to the world, so he was looking forward to babying the puppy, something he hadn’t had to do since he was quite young.
At the checkout counter, some extras in his cart along with his trio of eggs, the Lillipup’s egg began to squeak and whine and yelp and writhe, shaking and bouncing and finally popping open with a startled kick of strong, large legs.  The size was already apparent of a Ride-Bred Lillipup, and the legs only revealed that further, bred to be born with muscle and tough pads, the back and body strong as well to support even the heaviest of trainers in the future.  Loch was already prepared with towels and wipes to clean the yelping puppy, now realizing that the world outside of the body heat-flowing environment of its egg was cold and that it was wet, and through shut eyes it could already discern bright lights.
His Lucario, Kikite, finished the transaction at the counter while Loch and Raehela minded the puppy, ensuring it got to drink at the formula and was held close to Loch’s form for warmth and familiarity, the store full of new smells and sounds that may have been a lot for the newborn.  As he cleaned and pet it while it fed itself, he admired the way its coat glittered in its pale color under the brighter lights of the store, its back fur green instead of the normal dark blue, and a little bit longer and thicker for both it and its future riders’ safety.
Shiny and a large breed.  What a thoughtful gift.

Great Gifts for 5 Year Old Girls
Are you looking for a great birthday or holiday gift for little girls around the age of five years old? Do you have a niece or little girl turning 5 years old soon? Are you having trouble figuring out what to get for her?
Whether it’s for her birthday, special event, or holiday, there are certain gifts that are always a winner amongst this age group of girls.
My niece Layla LOVED all of these toys at 5 years old. Even now that she’s 9, she STILL plays with them. These aren’t toys that kids just simply grow out of because they allow for kids to use their imagination. That’s something we should never grow out of. Just ask all the YouTubers who play with them.
Here’s a list of Layla’s Favorite Toys!
Shopkins Cutie Cars
Have you heard of Shopkins? They’re miniature food and other inanimate objects with faces on them (depending on the “Season”). Shopkins comes out with new items and calls them seasons like shows. They also give them very cute names like Kooky Cookie, Lippy Lips, Strawberry Kiss, etc. Those are Layla’s favorites.
To expand on their brand, they came up with Cutie Cars. I gave these to Layla not only because she asked for them, but because it felt like a real gift. She asked for the figures, which was fine, but then what do you do with 30 miniature food items?
I felt like I was adding a creative element to her playtime with these Cutie Cars. They’re relatively inexpensive and they’re not cheaply made. It was a sound investment.
You get 3 cars per box, and they come in different themes. I bought her 3, Bumper Bakery, Candy Combo, and Pretty Performers. Here’s the list of choices:
Bumper Bakery
Breakfast Beeps Collection
Candy Combo
Fast and Fruity
Pretty Performers Collection
Dessert Drivers Collection
Freezy Rides

Num Noms
What is a Num Nom? Well, it’s two toys in one. They are little scented creatures that are filled with other creatures. Num Noms are in the surprise toy category which every kid is into nowadays.
Nums are the outer portion of the toy. They’re soft, squishy, and hollow. They’re nested on top of the Noms which are hard shells. They Noms are either mobile with tiny wheels on them or they’re filled with lip gloss.
Like Shopkins, Num Noms come out with different characters and are featured in Series. This set below is Season 4, featuring:
10 scented Nums (outer) in a variety of flavors, including one mystery Num
Two scented glitter lip gloss Noms
Reuseable lunchbox package as a storage case
Num Noms are also great for imaginary play and are often depicted on YouTube as mischevious characters. I’m not really sure why, maybe it’s because of how they look, but it’s how Layla always played with them, often with her Shopkins.

Hatchimals
What is a Hatchimal? A Hatchimal is a robotic pet that hatches from an egg.
When you first buy the toy it’ll be encased in its hard egg shell. DO NOT put it in the microwave or try to drill it open. It will break and then you’ll be out $$.
There are directions inside on how to care of the Hatchimal to get to break through its shell to come out and play. You must care for it by rubbing, holding, and cradling it to get it to crack.
I bought this gift when my nieces and nephews were still living in Maryland and I was in New York. So although I got to see the unveiling of the gift, I didn’t get to see how long it took for them to get the egg open. However, it did come out. According to the company it takes approximately 20 minutes for the egg to hatch on its own.
What’s so cool about this toy is that it has stages of life. The toy doesn’t grow, but it’s abilities develop. Each Hatchimal will eventually learn how to walk, talk, and play games like peek a boo. There are five stages: egg, hatching, baby, toddler, and kid.
They come with everything you need: 2 AA batteries, an official Hatchibirth certificate, 4 accessories, an instruction booklet & cheat sheet.

Baby Alive
Baby Alive is a great gift for a five-year-old because she’s not just a regular doll. She’s a doll that little girls can feed and change because she asks for it!!
Little girls can practice their nurturing skills with this doll. They can make her food in the Baby Alive blender, feed her, give her a bottle, and change her diapers because she actually pees and poops.
I opted for Baby Alive Spoonfuls because the other one uses playdoh as her food. There were customer complaints about that food getting stuck in the doll and never coming out. I didn’t want to deal with that and my sister hates Playdoh so I went with this one instead.
The food is powder and is mixed with water which seems to go down pretty easily and doesn’t get stuck in the doll.
The diapers can be used a few times, but eventually they need to be thrown away. Layla got some hand me down diapers when her brothers outgrew the ones that they were in. That worked out well for her.
Note that this doll DOES NOT talk.

LOL Surprise Dolls
LOL Surprise Dolls are very popular with little girls. The LOL isn’t laughing out loud like in text. It stands for little outrageous littles. However, you might laugh once you find out the secret to each doll.
They love the anticipation of finding out what’s inside the spherical egg. The packaging of the LOL Dolls prevents anyone from seeing the actual doll. Hence the name Surprise Doll.
Each doll is encased in a plastic ball and then sealed with plastic wrapping. You’ve gotta do a little work to open them and that builds on the surprise.
Once open and revealed, you’ll find 7 surprises!
secret message sticker
collectible stickers
water bottle
shoes
outfit
fashion accessory
L.O.L. Surprise! glam glitter doll
So what does this LOL Surprise Doll do? Well, that’s another surprise. You have to put her in water to find out. After she’s been dunked in the water you’ll discover if she cries, spits, tinkles, or color changes!
It’s a fun toy since there are so many surprises that go along with this gift. The only negative is you’re not sure (when you buy more than one) if you’ll be getting duplicates of the same. On a positive note, Layla just treats the duplicates as twin sisters.
Each ball that the doll is designed for more play. It becomes a little carrying case, doll display, or hang out and bathtub.
I’m not sure how many Layla has collected by now, but she LOVES every one of them.

Littlest Pet Shop
Layla was turned on to Littlest Pep Shop toys (LPS) by her cousin Lola. Both are obsessed with animals and so it’s no surprise that they like playing with the toy versions.
They both love that you can pop their heads off and put them on different bodies. Think the puppy head should now be on the duck’s body? No problem!
This LPS toy is an Amazon exclusive with 15 pets inside!!
armadillo
4 dogs
duck
fawn
guinea pig
turtle
hippo
meercat
fox
bear
mouse
cat
What’s also special about this LPS set is that it comes with a special cat, named Ziza Glitterton. She’s a scannable pet so girls can also play within the LPS Your World app. She can play games and level up with this virtual pet to unlock new rooms and accessories in the app. It’s a cool addition to the regular LPS dolls.

I hope that you’ve found the perfect gift for your 5-year-old girl in your life. Layla loves each and every one of these toys and continues to get great use of out them. I often peek in on her to find that she combines these toys so that they all play together. Her imagination never ceases to amaze me.
