☾ WIP REINTRODUCTION — GUARDIANS OF THE GODS, BOOK ONE: T H E  T H I R D  G E N E R A T I O N ☽

SETTING: The city of Starlite on the West Coast of a fictional America, and the village of Arus on a far-off planet

POV: 3rd Person Limited, with a preference for Bez Jackson & Snowella Garcia’s POVs

☾ SYNOPSIS ☽

Like any sane person would, Bez Jackson had always doubted the existence of magic—up until she started having visions at the tender age of twelve. Seemingly out of nowhere, these visions came and began infiltrating her mind with images of a girl she had never seen before simultaneously wielding and being consumed by unfathomable magic power.

She was left to combat these cryptic visions for three years on her own—then fate stepped in and brought her face to face with the girl of her clairvoyant dreams: Snowella Garcia.

Soon after meeting Snowella and two of her closest friends, the four of them are thrust into a new world defying everything they thought they knew about the universe. Then a demigod grants them magical powers and sends them on a mission as humanity’s newest generation of Guardians.

Their task? To protect the descendant of an ancient Guardian from a woman seeking to use him as the vessel for a lost soul. The problem? Bez’s visions link Snowella to the soul this woman is hellbent on unleashing. The most important rule? Keep their Guardian identities secret.

☾ CHARACTERS ☽

BEZ JACKSON: The main MC with the Curse of Clairvoyance. She is determined to figure out what exactly is going on with Snowella—she’s just not sure if she’s willing to do it by any means necessary.

SNOWELLA GARCIA: The secondary MC with the Curse of Duality. She’s been aware of the existence of something dwelling within her core since before she could write her own name. As far as she knows, it’s a dormant power. Unfortunately for her, that just means it needs a catalyst.

ROSE PETULIA: One of Snowella’s closest friends and the kindest soul you’d ever meet. She’s known Snowella since they were five, yet somehow was completely unaware of the extra presence she carried until she was formally exposed to magic.

CORRINTHIA CLINE: Another of Snowella’s closest friends and an artist with a passion for fashion design. Like Rose, she’s known Snowella since they were young, but that’s as far back as her memories go. Strange. It’s almost as if her prior memories have been suppressed.

YUCA: The descendant of a Guardian that lived centuries prior. He is very intelligent, compassionate, and more than willing to lend a hand when asked, but like anyone else, he’s got a few secrets of his own.

THE ORACLE: The (Demi)God of Light and a symbol for righteousness, justice, prosperity, and life. They are often linked to the four elements—water, earth, air, and fire—and is associated with Blessings. But don’t let the fancy title fool you.

Worldbuilding Wednesday: ♢ Magic ♢

“Magic has been around since the birth of the universe. It exists almost everywhere, but can only be detected by those born or blessed with it. We call these people the Cursed and the Blessed. To be given magic is a blessing, but if you’re born with it...that is the result of a curse.” －The Oracle

In my series, Guardians of the Gods, magic is a supernatural force that only certain individuals are exposed to. Magic can be expressed in numerous forms, but every type of magic is derived from water, fire, earth, air, the light that binds them together, or the darkness that keeps them apart. Those known to wield magic fall into one of two categories: the Blessed, or the Cursed.

The Blessed: Magic bearers that weren’t initially born with their powers are considered Blessed because their magic is given to them by the Oracle, who is revered as a supreme deity and the Epitome of Light. These individuals are usually sought out by him to become Guardians, a group of warriors who fight to oppose the forces of darkness. Their magic typically revolves around the basic four elements, though occasionally one member is deemed the Keeper of Light.

Because only the Oracle has the power to bestow magic upon others, the Blessed/the Guardians are regarded as a rare phenomenon. In realms where magic is studied and appreciated, they are held with high regard and admired with as much vigor as the Oracle. You are quite literally “blessed” if you’re chosen to become a Guardian. After all, why else would a demigod select you, out of the billions of others in the universe?

The Cursed: Magic bearers born into their power(s) are considered Cursed because their magic is connected to Odin, a disgraced demigod regarded as the Epitome of Darkness. These individuals are unfortunate in that them having magic is the result of existing within a cursed bloodline. Their magic is dark at its core and more gruesome than elemental magic. There is greater variation in the types of abilities that can fester within Cursed people. And while not every Cursed mage wishes to obtain world domination, the nature of their magic forces others to see them as a threat that must be eradicated.

Though they’re born with their powers, the Cursed usually aren’t aware of their abilities until a traumatic or catastrophic event triggers an “awakening” within them. The amount of bloodlines affected can extend deep into the future, so long as the Cursed keep reproducing. Magic bearers with these unfathomable powers are usually said to be afflicted by Odin’s Curse, because in the past the only region of the universe that venerated Odin had found a way to “mirror” his assumed abilities through the extensive practice of witchcraft. Ultimately, them and all their future offspring were Cursed with the powers they praised so dearly.

Physical Magic: Only the Blessed and the Cursed can wield magic from their bodies, but since magic exists almost everywhere in the universe, ordinary humans can harness them through ores, the physical embodiment of magic. Ores are chunks of concentrated magic power that are most prominently fused with weapons to give ordinary swords magical abilities. They can be found in any area with a high concentration of magic, or farmed through extensive mining. They’re a convenient way for magic-less humans to stand against magical foes.

A more unknown type of physical magic is referred to as glitter, but in reality it’s concentrated magic particles gathered from highly-concentrated magic areas. Very few people are known to wield glitter as the purest form of physical magic, and those who do are said to be on par with the Blessed and the Cursed.

TTG Side Characters: ♡ The Oracle ♡

THE ORACLE is a mysterious side character in my WIP, The Third Generation. To millions across the universe, they are regarded as a supreme god who keeps the universe stabilized with the aid of the Guardians, warriors they elect to battle against the darkness threatening humanity. Before inducing a dreamworld that led Bez Jackson, Snowella Garcia, Rose Petulia, and Corrinthia Cline to discover they would become the third generation of Guardians, the four had no prior knowledge of the Oracle’s existence. The Oracle isn’t too keen on revealing the full depth of their identity, either, but that won’t stop them from forcing the Guardians into their new roles.

Age: exact age unknown, but is considered to be “as old as the universe”

Birthdate: unknown but worshippers celebrate their continued reign on New Year’s

Gender & Pronouns: Non-binary; they/them but doesn’t mind he/him

Sexuality: N/A

Nickname(s)/Title(s): The Epitome of Light or God

Type: Demigod

Even if the odds are stacked against them, the Oracle will simply manipulate fate to work in their favor. They are extraordinarily deceptive, wise, and power-hungry. The full extent of their power isn’t known to man, but they are so powerful that they reside in a world of their own, away from humanity. The Oracle is a go-getter who hates losing even once, and has an ego as expansive as the universe. To delegate Guardians is to toy with human life, and they are willing to sacrifice them over and over if it means erasing the existence of Odin and his Curse.

All magic has laws, however, and the Oracle is not immune to death should they defy these laws.

MEET THE MCs OF “The Third Generation”: ♡ Snowella Garcia ♡

SNOWELLA GARCIA is one of the main characters in my WIP, The Third Generation. Her life has been seemingly perfect up until she crosses paths with Bez Jackson, a strange girl whose presence unearths secrets about the universe Snowella didn’t even know possible. But what truly is “possible” anymore? After all, magic wasn’t supposed to have existed.

A fateful encounter and the unfortunate opportunity of coming face to face with a demigod leaves Snowella, Bez, and their friends Rose Petulia and Corrinthia Cline with new identities and a grueling task that, coincidentally, can only be completed by them. There’s something about the four of them that garnered fate’s attention, and even greater secrets lurking within both Bez and Snowella are the key to understanding just how shaken up the universe truly is.

Though she’s unsure what to make of the essence lurking in her soul, Snowella has never once backed down from a problem. She is aggressive, courageous, and persistent in all that she does, but the threat of harm to her friends or family turns her protective and short-tempered. Her naturally outgoingpersonality has deemed her the leader of most situations, but she’s willing to step down and follow Bez’s guidance when confronted with uncertainty. The mention of the mystery lurking within her brings out her fear, but overall she is determined to uncover what lies within her soul.

She’d love to live long enough to know more than just Bez’s name, but more than anything, she wishes to quell what lurks at her core and gain inner peace.

MEET THE MCs OF “The Third Generation”: ♡ Rose Petulia ♡

ROSE PETULIA is one of the main characters in my WIP, The Third Generation. She is nothing short of an angel and is a truly humble soul. Her life has been riddled with hardships since the loss of her father when she was only 3 years old, but she has always faced each challenge with grace and an unyielding positivity. The only challenge she’s found she can’t smile her way through comes with the discovery that magic isn’t a fairy tale after all.

Maybe fate made a mistake, because not long after becoming friends with the new girl in town, she is thrown into a position she would’ve never dreamed of in a million years. Encountering a demigod forces the curtains to part, revealing a maze of secrets the universe had been hiding for centuries.

Gender & Pronouns: Female; she/her

Sexuality: Bisexual

Nickname(s): Babe (by Snowella only)

Every day eventually gives way to darkness, but Rose is not willing to let the realization of magic and the threat of unknown foes crush her spirits. She is overwhelming supportive, kind, and trusting. Any danger to her loved ones encourages her to make selfless sacrifices, but push her over the edge and a wolf will emerge from her disguise of sheep’s clothing. She is the Mom Friend™️ and an optimistic pacifist, though she’ll paint her hands in blood if she absolutely has to. She is never the leader and always a follower.

Their new identities bring chaos to the lives of Rose, Bez Jackson, Snowella Garcia, and Corrinthia Cline. If one day they can acquire peace, with all her heart Rose hopes to treat her family to a serene vacation.

MEET THE MCs OF “The Third Generation”: ♡ Corrinthia Cline ♡

CORRINTHIA CLINE is one of the main characters of my WIP, The Third Generation. Even before fate led her to become acquainted with Bez Jackson, she’d already had her doubts about the legitimacy of the universe as humanity knew it. It doesn’t help that Bez’s appearance and their subsequent encounter with a demigod brings back brief, muddled memories of life prior to her family’s move to Starlite---a life that consisted of a castle. At this point, it only takes a single statement for the pieces to start falling into place: magic is real.

She’s inclined to fully believe that fate and magic go hand in hand after she, Bez, Snowella Garcia, and Rose Petulia are made the third generation of Guardians. But this title only prompts her to question what they’re the Guardians of---and why four teenage girls are needed to do the job.

Gender & Pronouns: Female; she/her

Sexuality: Straight

Nickname(s): Corrin or Rin

She may bear a mind of deep, unanswered questions, but Corrinthia is the furthest thing from serious. She is increasingly talkative and warm-hearted, but a bit of an airhead. When confronted with new ideas, she tends to ramble endlessly or overwhelm others with her (often senseless) questions. Her passion for art is unmatched, and she’s typically seen sketching fashion designs in her notebook. Her views on life are nothing less than hopeful, and she’s always praying for the best possible outcome in everything she does. If the promise of adventure is guaranteed, she’d be more than willing to follow the lead [of anyone, really].

There’s still so much she wishes to know about magic and the universe, but even more than receiving answers to all her questions, she aspires to one day start her own fashion line.

TTG Side Characters: ♡ Yuca ♡

YUCA is a prominent side character in my WIP, The Third Generation. For years, he’s been living peacefully in the remote village of Arus as a teacher alongside his scientist husband. The villagers have always looked up to him as the Guardian of Arus, considering his rather unique abilities. So it comes as no surprise that they turn to him when mysterious plagues start terrorizing the village and a peculiar woman is spotted roaming the plains. He’s exceptionally talented, so it’s assumed he can handle it. The extremity of the situation soon proves too much for even him to bear, however, and thus, he calls upon the newly appointed Guardians.

Age: 25

Birthdate: sometime in August

Gender & Pronouns: Male; he/him

Sexuality: Gay

Nickname(s)/Title(s): Teacher (by his students), King, & Chief (both by the villagers)

Even if it meant putting his own life on the line, Yuca would do anything to protect the people of Arus. He is incredibly knowledgable when it comes to magic and the intertwining of magic and life, compassionate, and selfless. He is always willing to lend a helping hand or offer guidance to those seeking wisdom. Sometimes the expectations placed on him cause immense stress, however, so he may slip into sour moods or come off more bitter than he intends. Still, he is very well respected and is just as respectful of others. To the Guardians, he becomes a mentor.

If all goes well with the Guardians on his side, he hopes the village of Arus can be at peace again.

BEZ JACKSON is one of the main characters in my WIP, The Third Generation. Ever since she started having visions at 12 years old of a girl enveloped in darkness wreaking havoc, it’s been a struggle to differentiate from reality and her imagination. After all, magic doesn’t exist, right? That’s what she’d always been told.

But then fate plays its hand and leads her to befriend Rose Petulia, Corrinthia Cline, and Snowella Garcia---the girl in her visions. After a spell induces a dreamworld within twelve hours of their meeting, all their lives take a turn for the worse.

Age: 15

Birthdate: February 13th

Gender & Pronouns: Female; she/her

Sexuality: Questioning

Nickname(s): B or Bee

Despite her uncontrollable visions that often depict cruel fates, Bez is trying her hardest to live in the moment and take things one step at a time. She is cautious, observant, and crafty, but gruesome visions turn her anxious and distant. Rather than carry a conversation, she’d prefer to listen carefully from the background. She is naturally a follower, but in times of courage or desperation, she becomes the leader fate deemed her to be.

Aside from managing to survive the hell that’s unleashed after she befriends Snowella, Rose, and Corrinthia, she would love nothing more than to rewrite the futures her visions depict.

MEET THE MCs OF “The Third Generation”: ♡ Cassandra Bluestone ♡

CASSANDRA BLUESTONE is a main character who appears later in my WIP, The Third Generation. Even before Bez Jackson had arrived in Starlite and was made a member of the third generation of Guardians along with Snowella Garcia, Rose Petulia, and Corrinthia Cline, she had already been wary of Snowella and the unknown, malicious aura lurking deep within her soul. Bez’s arrival only adds to the confusion as she harbors an additionally dark aura within her own soul, leaving Cassandra to question just how it was possible. How could they already have magic if they weren’t officially exposed to it until after the fact?

She had no intention of ever confronting the two about it and had resolved to continue observing them from the shadows, but after they are deemed Guardians, she soon finds it next to impossible to keep her own identity secret. After all, what good would it do for her to avoid them when she too was a Guardian?

Age: 16

Birthdate: December 27th

Gender & Pronouns: Female; she/her but doesn’t mind they/them

Sexuality: Asexual

Nickname(s): Cass or Andy (which is derived from the “-andra” part of her name)

Weapon(s) of Choice: Rapier

As much as she’d love to do things on her own terms, even Cassandra understands the value of working as a team. This doesn’t change the fact that she is a lone wolf through and through and acts independently of anyone and anything else. She is quick-witted, graceful, and precise on the battlefield and would rather fight with her rapier than battle unarmed. Her typically indifferent attitude usually causes her to clash with Snowella, who repeatedly insists on her working side by side the rest of the Guardians. She is firm in her values and beliefs and is not willing to allow even the Oracle to sway her sense of justice. She is the daughter of a second generation Guardian and has been a member of the third generation far longer than her teammates.

Formally introducing herself to Bez, Snow, Rose, and Corrin brings an abrupt end to her solitude as all sorts of havoc is unleashed. If they can one day restore order to the universe and bring an end to all the chaos, more than anything else she’d love some peace and quiet.

**The third rendition of Cassandra is most accurate, since she has highlights.

Today I stepped back from outlining my WIP to outline the main ideas and key concepts of books of my series as a whole. And it’s a good thing I did because there’s a lot of timelines and dates I need to figure out, and then there’s the matter of deciding how many books are gonna be in this series and some of the books have tentative titles because I just don’t *know* what to name them right now... But it’s fine and pretty fun!! It’s nice to step outside of my WIP for the moment and focus on something else. Definitely gotta fill up these plot holes tho lol
