It's been said before, but I do really love how VnC seems to have taken it upon itself to spend time on every one of the classic themes associated with vampire literature.

Vampirism as a disease? Vampirism as seduction and/or sexual assault? Vampirism as an excuse for othering and xenophobia? Fear of the corruption of natural death? It's all there. VnC vampires aren't traditional vampires in any part of their actual lore, but god, Mochijun knows what she's doing on a thematic level.

#the corruption of death thing hasn't been as big a theme quite yet. but it's lurking around the edges #particularly with Misha's desire to resurrect luna and the way that concept is portrayed #and I suspect that idea is going to connect back to teacher's own fixation on luna and/or whatever's going on with the queen as well #and there's the fact that vani's going to die at the end. and that that's preferable to whatever the Mark will turn him into #god I love this series #vnc #vanitas no carte #the case study of vanitas #english major hours

Knowing Nora it was probably intentional that in each book someone was intentionally hit with an exy racket on screen (three times). Its in the similar vein of how the books mention of two intentional deaths in a car makes us question Kayleigh Day’s death in a car and if it was an accident

thinking about how the sisters grimm series has some of the best written characters, arcs, plot, and relationships. Dont let the fact its a kids series trick you, its a beautiful work and i think it deserves to be more popular.

The main character is a pre-teen/teen girl (who’s actually written really well for a male author) and shes so real and i adore her. Sabrina is my GIRL

Sabrina and puck’s relationships is so <3 the progression of their friendship and eventually romance is SO well written and makes sense for them as characters.

One of the characters, Prince Charming has probably the best redemption arc i have EVER read. I hated that mf in the first book and by the last book i loved him and was crying cause he had a happy ending.

If yall want a really good fairytale retelling series PLEASE READ THE SISTERS GRIMM THERES BARELY A FANDOM

For anyone who doesn't know, we now have one video from Bertha's perspective:

From this we learned a few different things:

Bertha was the one to leave the threatening signs outside of Lauren's and Joey's houses for promotional purposes. She was hoping they would be intrigued and call the number... it obviously didn't work.

Scott can apparently bring pets back to life now, as he brought back Mertha, Bertha's pet goat.

Bertha has a very obvious soft spot for animals and can seemingly communicate with them. This could imply that she once was a nature witch, back when she still was a witch.

On that topic, Bertha is no longer a witch (she put on a witch hat and lamented how much she misses being able to wear it, so it seems obvious) and now mostly defines herself as an entity that is "No one and everyone, everything and everywhere all at once". Also, she's genderless and canonically uses every pronoun because of this!

We also learned that most likely the past Supreme Witch was her sister, and she did something to Bertha that Bertha still hasn't forgiven, and that seemingly prevented her from becoming Supreme Witch. Previously to that, they apparently used to be best friends

My current theory on the last point is that it's a situation similar to Eda and Lilith from TOH. With the less capable sibling cursing the other one in a way that would take away their magic so they can get the title they were aiming at. It seems to be implied that Bertha was the better witch from the fact that she mentioned that teachers would tell her that she would become the new Supreme Witch.

The difference here is that Bertha knows about the curse (or whatever else that something her sister did to her was) and never forgave her sister for it. Plus, if her sister really is the Supreme Witch as it seems to be implied, she's dead now, so there's no longer a chance for reconciliation, which is kinda sad to be honest...

@xiranjayzhao just released the spectacular new cover art for their new book Heavenly Tyrant.

Me a useless fuck who’s addicted to iron widow has focused on a few things from it.

this is the full cover, and i’d like to draw attention several things.

1. the string binding Zetian and Qin Zheng together. both a joke with the red string of fate, and the fact that they both control each other now. they are irrecoverably bound together.

2. the positions of the hands. Zetian’s right hand is raised as though reaching up to something or as i’m interpreting she has a free right hand in Yizhi. Qin Zheng does not. He knows no one and nothing and has very few allies. but also, Qin Zheng’s left hand is laying upon the dragon. he’s source of power which gives him all the power to keep Zetian from killing him. Zetian has the Vermillion bird but she’s missing her other half although Yizhi could also attempt taking it over.

and 3. their clothes. Obviously they’re both wearing spirit armor, both covered in gold (which @xiranjayzhao rants about the quality of the fabric) and both are clearly sharing the power of emperor. but it’s the chest that has me most intrigued. Zetian has an open/glowing heart, i believe it to be a sign that she has hope still. Qin Zheng has a diamond, a hollowed out but still glowing diamond, i see it as his apathy to new world around him and his interest in Zetian specifically as a rival.

and that is my amature analysis of Heavenly Tyrant cover art. it might mean something it might mean nothing who cares? (me, i care)

I’m on page 139 of the Golden Enclaves and I have a THEORY!

(If I’m right, don’t tell me until I’ve finished the book) SPOILERS AHEAD IF IM RIGHT

But El is the one taking out Enclaves because Enclaves make Mawmouths. Since apparently Enclaves are built on Malia, that Malia creates Mawmouths and taking out that Mawmouth takes out the Enclave.

So Bangkok went down a few weeks before graduation, which was when El took out her first Mawmouth. But no Enclaves were hit the whole year. Then just when Graduation occurred, Salta and London were hit. Salta had only been made a year before, and the Mawmouth El took out to save the Argentina kid was incredibly tiny. Then that same day, Patience took out Fortitude, and fortitude, as powerful and strong as it is, is definitely London. (Patience has to be New York. It would be narratively fitting since that’s where Orion is)

Then the exact morning El took out the large Mawmouth, not quite as big as Patience or Fortitude, but still incredibly sizeable, Beijing went out.

This is how El is fulfilling her prophecy of tearing down Enclaves and causing massive death and destruction. Because she is taking out Mawmouths
