Finished TGAAC around 2 1/2 weeks ago but only finished the doodles today. but still, here ya go!
#caluuart#art#dgs spoilers#dgs2 spoilers#tgaa spoilers#tgaa2 spoilers#ace attorney#the great ace attorney#tgaa#dgs2#not tagging characters bc it's a lot#RAMBLE TIME. so ever since I finished dgs2 I have been listening to the soundtracks and MAN these bang so much#esp as a person who plays the piano and likes music. it's just. good. yeah. some of these do give me psychological dmg tho lmaoo#like kazuma's nocturne theme or his prosecutor theme. or the secret trial theme.... the partners - the game is afoot! theme.... I am normal#WHICH SPEAKING OF! man I love the sholmes + mikotoba partner twist so much even if i got a bit spoiled about it. i just think they're neat.#The partners of all time I think.#Also also the found family!?!?!? I am A SUCKER for found family. they fed me so well.#funny thing was the barok character development surprised me despite the fact that I also expected it since the first game lolol.#I do think he's an interesting character and probably one of the best character development in the game. And that I find his design cool.#oh yeah I didn't draw it but when I saw that albert mentioned that barok is “the darling of the van zieks family” I was genuinely like.#huh? wdym. like man at the time “van zieks” and “little darling” feels wrong in the same sentence. that was until I saw his pre-#-trauma pictures n well. albert isn't wrong. which was a slight surprise to me.#In conclusion: I liked it a lot. and now occupies parts of my brain along with my other brainrots.#They fight for priority in my brain whenever I try to sleep or disassociate lol. Well at least there's more material to think about.#off topic time: arlecchino animation. for the sake of the tag's length I'll just say a few things:#I am very very interested in her story and oh my god father.#My brain has stopped braining now; good night my fellows

Summary:
I absolutely love this game. It's so charming and sweet with a fun story surrounding puzzles. I love the characters and I love their little quips. I love the range of puzzles and how some of them have historical context. It's such a simple concept that was executed very well. Although the story isn't ground breaking, it was still really fun and shocking. It reminds me a lot of an ACD Sherlock story as it's just another one of Layton and Luke's wacky adventures. It is also set up in the perfect way to allow both sequels and prequels (which is what did happen lol). There's a ton of added replayability such as bonus puzzles, finding every furniture piece and arrangements, finding the charms, etc. It's so interactive and doesn't punish the player at all. This is an amazing puzzle game and there's no shame to not knowing the puzzle answers. You don't get full points if you mess up but that's fine as the picarats don't affect main story gameplay. I am so exccited to see how the sequels expand on the characters, especially Flora! She seems like a very unique character and I am so excited to see more of her. I am also just so happy to finally experience the beautiful music I have been listening to for years in the game. The music is so incredible and charming, it makes me want to find a nice, small European town to explore. What a great game and I am excited for what's next! Hopefully in time for the New World of Steam!

battle of the battle themes
I've been following these poll tourneys very closely and got an idea for one of my own! I love video game OST's and thought it'd be fun to make one about that, especially since music has been a less explored venue than characters.
Qualifications:
Must be from a video game
Must coincide with some kind of battle with the video game's enemies. Something that hypes you up and makes you feel unstoppable!
General battle themes or boss fight themes welcome
Some examples I had in mind: With Twilight of the Gods from Shadows of Valentia, God Shattering Star from Fire Emblem Three Houses, Song of the Ancients (Fate) from Nier Replicant/Gestalt
Y'all can submit those or whatever you want! In fact I'm excited to find new OST's to listen to!
Rules:
I won't tolerate any rudeness or toxicity. Any offenders will be blocked.
No botting/cheating either, please. Let's just have a fun time here.
No video games that are very NSFW in nature please!
You can only submit your song once but you are free to send in multiple. Basically, no flooding with a repeat confession.
Propaganda is welcome, especially during the submission phase if you want a song submitted- though for the most part the music will be speaking for itself I think!
This is something very new for me and I don't rlly know much about tournament seeding or w/e so it'll probably be randomized. Please be patient with me!
Submissions have been closed early so I can include more people- sorry about that!
Other poll tourneys that inspired me to make one:

My Ttte Human Designs (Gordon):
Tumblr media
Headcanons:
Proud, arrogant, boastful and strong. But he's secretly a softie and is extremely to his friends. Over time, his soft side really began to show.
Loves pulling the Express and being competitive.
His human age is 47 while his actual age is 102.
He is an Asexual Gay man.
Kinda hates to admit his mistakes but he's working on being more humble.
Since Edward is a lot more chaotic in this AU, Gordon is really the only one keeping the Steam Team together.
Jesus Christ, how many siblings did Gordon used to have?!?!
Gordon was very close with Pretty Polly and Scotsman when he was young and so hearing about all of his siblings die except for Scotsman was very heartbreaking.
"I am an Express Engine, I don't go slow!"
Scot likes to call Gordon "Little brother" just to piss him off because Gordon is actually Scotsman's older brother.
Has a massive crush on BoCo and they managed to become fiancés. Unfortunately, that also means he has to take care of the bastards-I mean bees.
Loves classical music and plays the piano. Is a God at it.
Likes anything that tastes like blueberry.
Is the tallest in the Steam Team.
When he came to Sodor, he was quiet since he had a speech impediment, was very shy, curious and liked to stay out of trouble. And like he said, he also used to be green. Redward was the complete opposite, leading to some really funny interactions with the two.
Knows ASL because he used it as a way of communicating when he was green.
Toby is his best friend and they're always seen together. They're so close to each other that they both became each other's wingman when they went out to their first date with their partners.
Will kill and die for his adopted daughter, Emily.
He is Henry's half-brother.
An massive Ace Attorney fan. Has played all of the games and watched the animated series. His favorite character is probably Miles Edgeworth.
Does not know the meaning of "casual wear" He will show up on a date WEARING A FANCY ASS SUIT.
Closest Friends:
BoCo (Fiance), Toby (Best Friend), Edward, Henry, James, Thomas, Percy, Emily, Scotsman, Mallard, etc.
Enemies:
Ryan, Diesel, Spencer, Diesel 10 and Bill and Ben (Sometimes).

Summary:
I'm afraid I won't have enough room to describe how much I love this game. I don't even know where to start :'). This game is a masterpiece of masterpieces. Easily comparable to FMAB in terms of incredible storytelling, foreshadowing, mystery, tragedy, comedy, score, design, you name it. I have never genuinely been so shocked by the surprises in this game, but they were all so well made and fit in the story seamlessly. The tragedy and comedy, the two most important aspects of a story to me, were not only very well balanced, but were used as expert emotional devices throughout the game. The character design is incredible. Small details such as Ryuu's arm brace or Enoch's mechanisms or Iris's dolls add such character and personality even if some of these details aren't plot relevant. Each character has a unique body type, face shape, facial features, etc that it is easy to identify each character without their hair or clothes. The deigns are also so brilliant that it even taught me how to not only draw older people and children, but to be able to distinguish between teenagers and 20-30 year olds in my art (instead of all looking the same age). The animations are beautiful and so ridiculous. I always looked forward to interacting with Herlock and the witnesses. These games also have one of my favorite scores, especially the way they are able to turn established themes on their heads. The music does an amazing job at establishing setting, character, tension, emotion, you name it. Now for the story telling. Holy fucking shit. Holy shit. You don't even realize how important every small is until it hits you in the face. This is a story that will rival my 1st place spot of FMAB [in terms of all media]. It is so beautifully designed and thought over that I can only say the writers at Capcom are true geniuses to make this story. It doesn't hold back any punches but also comforts you. It toys with your emotions and is smth almost evil, but it also gives you hope and confidence and lifts you up so that you can scream to the world. The key to this is Ryuu. He's no avatar like Link but you and him share a strong bond through shared experience. It was an ingenious move to have the first story be Ryuu accused of murder, you learn the hardest way possible how to become a defense attorney of true integrity. His relations to others is this game is incredible too. The betrayal, the longing, the tenderness. Him and Susato have an incredible "sibling" bond to where I truly felt anxious without her. Not to mention Kazuma. A human through and through. Once thought to be the righteous angel, he had later fallen from heaven just to learn the truth of who he and his father really are. Even as the game has ended, I still sit and contemplate on these characters. Although it was the right decision for Kazuma to stay, I am still in pain from their separation. I really wish I could say more but it's also hard to put into words all my feelings with so little space. If I could forget this game just to experience it again, I would. An outstanding work of art. I highly recommend. My new favorite game.

Year Summary #3
We're going with games today so without further ado!
The ones I've started and finished: 1. Pokemon Moon - Second/third time that I played it. I had started a save a long time ago, but I borrowed my 2DS to a dear friend of mine, so I just started everything from beginning. I enjoyed it as much as the first time actually, getting different Pokemon this time - or kind of? This is also where I discovered that tiny Pancham looks like Paul McCartney. Don't ask me from where I took it, but yeah. I named my Pancham Paul XD
2. Final Fantasy IX - I figured out that there has to be at least one Final Fantasy game during the year and this time it happened to be this one. Again, a replay, third fucking save. I had a new pc at that time, had to install Moguri again but you know. The worst was the fact that the old saves were gone, along with the one where I almost did everything in the time before the final boss. My first, almost complete save was gone, I was sad about that. That didn't discourage me tho, I played the game again, only to regret that I didn't use other names than default - it would be so fun, I have to do it next time. Anyway, I still love this game, I will gladly come back to it at any day really - crying at the end again, God, the credits song ;A;
3. Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc - I think this platformer will come back to the list of "play at least once a year". I love this games to bits, first platformer, my entire childhood and beginning of being a nerd is stored there - and again, Polish dub in this game is *chef's kiss*
4. Rayman Legends - replay after a few years and as much as I love the musical levels, the game itself is fun to certain point, I think halfway through, it gets kind of repetitive - or it might be me who played this game way too much in the past. Either way, I'm not coming back to it anytime soon. Had fun nevertheless tho <3
5. Murder by Numbers - got Epic Games Store, got my hands on free games and there I went, choosing this one as the first one. It has repetitive mechanic over finding clues - it's a detective kind of game, similar to Ace Attorney, but much more tame - but like, if you're bored you can cheat through them just to get on with the plot. I did that at the very end and really, I enjoyed the plot, characters, music. The tiny computer who helped the main heroine was adorable <3
6. Earthbound - you thought I will forget to play it? HAH, jokes on you! The end of year is nearing and my mind is already set on to play it again! I will never grow bored of this game and this time the team consisted of Ringo, me, John and Paul, Beatles themed team and truth be told, I WAS SO FUCKING UNLUCKY ON THIS SAVE. Like, I even did simplest mistakes, forgetting about the freaking shields which got me an instant kill. Had to repeat the last cave three fucking times, I never had such a bad playthrough in my life! Ringo borrowed his luck this time it seems
7. Spyro the Dragon - what did I do when I got a new PC? Downloaded PSX emulator and played Spyro. I'm a whole mood as my friend described me and honestly I don't regret this decision, even if I had to take this game in parts. The camera made me sick to my stomach - oh God I hope it'll be better in later parts and in the remaster - but like taking one level per day was a good idea to solve the problem. Plus the soundtrack - Copeland my beloved! - is just so good. One of those games which soundtracks I'll be listening to when I have time. ...Which reminds me that I have to make cleaning on yt with the games' music. MAJOR CLEANING *looking at my young self* You did fucked it up
8. Deponia - Oh yes, I came back to his fuckery and now I'm having a break before tackling the second game which I don't like very much, but about this one! The beginning is kinda long, but once out of town the game shows what it is capable of with puzzle solving, plot, humor, characters. I still love it and will probably nerd the third part like I usually do, because it's my favorite, but this time I did one major change. I've played with English dub, not like always with German and fuck, it is better somehow so I'm sticking to that <3
Now to the ones I've dropped: 1. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Being younger I loved this game, but this time I just couldn't get into it anymore. Might be because my smart ass thought about erasing the save I didn't finish years ago and starting a new one, but who might know. I do regret I didn't finish the game for some weird reason those years ago, but maybe it was for the better? Either way, I sold it with a few other Nintendo Wii games, leaving only two Kirby games for myself so yeah
2. Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time - now I really had high expectations for this one. I always heard good opinions about it and so I started it, curious, only to discover that I'm bored of it in the long run. There's not much variety in the battle mechanics. You either do that or this and push buttons. There's no excitement like it is in Final Fantasy for example, it's simpler, much much simpler and the same goes too...
3. Super Mario RPG - while having an amazing soundtrack, this game suffers the same thing as the previous. Repetitive battle mechanics and like this is probably the worst thing you can do to rpg. I know a lot of people love it and I can see why. The plot is great, dialogues, characters and world building is amazing, but for me if the battle mechanics ain't anything good, then I'm gonna drop the game and move on
4. Kirby Mass Attack - I always wanted to play this game. It was actually the first ROM I've downloaded on Nintendo DS emulator right after getting new PC and I had fun in the first world. I love the mechanics with the touch screen, the fact that there's 10 tiny Kirbys running around, but what threw me off guard is the fact that even if you have 10 Kirbys, you're gonna end with one at the beginning of the next world. I felt like all the progress was lost and I had to start from the very beginning. It somehow didn't feel fair you know. This was a big let down
And the ones I'm playing now: 1. Cave Story - first time after hearing what a good game it is, and I finally agree with an opinion! It's smooth, like the older games, the graphics are cute, music is amazing, plot simple, but engaging somehow. And true, some part for a new player are difficult - I'm playing on easy, I don't think of myself as of a great gamer and I still find it difficult. One boss was really unreadable for me, the one who was driving, I don't know the name of it, but like I had to have a few tries to figure out what to do and that is the only complaint I have about this game. Second would be no checkpoints between bosses at the very end, but like there was a chance for me to get a life refill, but like I didn't know about it, so I screwed myself on my own wish. Plus, I'm having a break from it because I'm stuck at final bosses. In the meantime I jumped to this one:
2. Yooka Laylee - which I bought on sale on steam and honestly, I don't remember when I had such a great time with a 3D platformer since Rayman 3. I know a lot of people are saying that it's not the same as Banjo-Kazooie - which I didn't play YET - but like, is it really worthy to compare instead of having fun with a game? I mean, the plot is simple, characters are fun, mechanics are great, the moveset is good, it's not limiting the player at all, the freaking soundtrack is a whole orchestra really, always giving the vibe of the world in a great way. There are a few bugs here and there, but they are not game breaking or anything. I was only throw off my guard when I learned that I need 100 pagies to get to the end. Guess what I am doing as of lately XD
And that would sum up this year. Thank you for reading all of this and i wish all of you a Happy New Year <3

A Rabid, Song-by-Song Analysis of Turnabout Musical by Someone Who Knows Jack Shit About Music
TRACK 2: AUGUST DAY
Here we are at the true start of things!
God, I fucking love August Day. I don’t think I can even put into words how much I love August Day, but I will try my damnedest.
So I just want to say right off the bat that I adore Matthew Taranto’s performance as Phoenix in this musical. You are going to be hearing that about every performer in this musical, but I think he’s special because it actually took me a while to warm up to. So many characters I was sure about from the beginning, as soon as I heard them, but Phoenix was the one where I was kind of like “Hm… interesting” until it bloomed into this outright love I have now. This is the voice I write him in half the time when I’m making fanworks of my own, I’m impossibly endeared. He’s got that sarcastic, bitchy, semi-pathetic but also passionately determined character voice down pat.
August Day opens up with Phoenix doing what he does best: being a fucking mess. The whole song is a mad bike through the streets of Japanifornia as he tries to talk himself down from a panic attack and swerves to avoid hitting pedestrians who eye him with general derision. It’s like a cynical, messy, big-city version of Belle from Beauty and the Beast, it’s fucking gold. Is this a cliché way to open on a musical? Don't answer, I've decided I don't fucking care.
The music box melody it opens in on, pleasant dreams grinding to an abrupt halt as Phoenix throws himself out of bed and struggles to keep his nerves about him, it’s so quintessentially him. Everything is going wrong, but he’s not going to let that stop him, because he is Phoenix Wright. The whole song feathers back and forth between this contradiction in him, this tiff he more or less has with his own internal voice. Within the very first few lines of the song, we know exactly who he is—steely, big-hearted, and most importantly of all, imperfect.
I’m very fond of these lyrics:
Can I bring justice to light? Can I fight? I'll try, and if I don't cry, then I'll do alright!
I don’t really know how to explain why I love these lyrics so much. The vulnerability in them is very special to me. Phoenix is vulnerable for this whole song, he doesn’t exactly try to hide who he is from the audience—but in all his sarcasm and dry wit, I think a lot of representations of him do lose sight of the fact that he is a deeply emotional person who loves with his whole heart. If you strip Phoenix of everything he is, that is what you would find at his core—devotion, follow-through, and love toward that which matters to him. It’s the reason he became a lawyer to begin with.
My favourite part of August Day is how the rest of the cast is incorporated. Every single line of dialogue and music flows perfectly into the next, the banter is quick-fire and catchy, and I adore how Phoenix is singing about how much he wants to help and serve his community while they all bitch about him. That’s it, that’s the heart of Ace Attorney—a man fighting odds that are stacked against him for uncooperative people. But he keeps trying! ‘Cause it’s what he loves to do!
Again I need to shout out Taranto’s performance as he’s playing Phoenix weaving in and out of traffic. In particular the far off “COMIN’ THRU” fucking takes me out every goddamn time I hear it.
As Phoenix is making his way through Lotta Hart and Jack Hammer (rip king) we hear a familiar tune—Happy People from the games! When I first realized this I was completely giddy. In particular it is the segment of the song from 0:16 to 0:29! TM is actually very, very reluctant to use songs and leitmotifs from the PWAA series itself, a choice which I’m actually really fond of. It focuses on having its own identity and keeping the feel of the games without relying too much on easy shortcuts like that, and in my opinion it succeeds! But this also has the added effect of making those rare moments of the actual PWAA OST so much more special. I’m going to try to point these out every time I notice them, because they make me froth at the mouth every goddamn time.
While more generic lines are given to most of these characters, I really adore how the most prevalent character in this song besides Phoenix himself—Gumshoe—is given an exchange that effortlessly tells us almost everything we need to know about him:
DICK GUMSHOE:
Today's the day My paycheck comes in the mail!
MAGGEY BYRDE:
You won't need to borrow bus fare From the guys in jail
GUMSHOE [spoken]:
That’s right!
Absolutely obsessed with the triumph in how Joel Williams reads that final line. I love Joel’s Gumshoe, as well, it was one of those voices that I instantly fell in love with.
With the introduction of Cody Hackins and Penny Nichols we get our first simultaneous, and god in fucking heaven does this musical do those well, yet ANOTHER ramble I have planned for another song. Cody and Penny playing rock paper scissors in perfect rhythm over Phoenix singing these quick and breathy notes, bleeding into Furio Tigre doing his loan shark work streetside, then into Gumshoe trying and failing to shoot his shot with Maggey before the ensemble kicks in.
THE ENSEMBLE KICKS IN!!!!
Oh, I love you, ensemble. And it doesn’t help that it kicks in on what are probably my favourite lyrics in the whole song:
EVERYONE [sung]:
So will this phoenix take flight...
PHOENIX:
...off the ground?
PHOENIX (CHORUS):
I'll soar with glory, My story will be renowned!
Something about it just gets me in my dumb gay little heart, man. The way the music rises and swells and makes me feel that fire in my chest. Yes! I want Phoenix to succeed! I don’t even know what he’s fucking doing, (except I do, this is a bit) but god I want him to win!
August Day is a perfect start to a perfect musical. It does a perfect job at introducing us to our main character and humanizing him. I think everyone has had a day like this, so Phoenix is already relatable. The world is alive and moving as he exists in it, there is a sense that he is just one piece of something much bigger and he is proud of that fact, proud to exist even as just one misshapen cog that makes the powers that be crack open the machine to reassess its blueprints.
The movement in this song is just incredible. I am right there with him. I can see this world, when I close my eyes. Hugs August Day. I love you, August Day.
[Turnabout Huh? What do you mean there’s an Ace Attorney Musical?]

Welcome! My name is Melanie/Mel (call me whichever you like) and this is my place to shout into the void about things I'm way too obsessed with. I'm 25, female, pan(demi)romantic asexual and also autistic/ADHD as hell. I post about a variety of things but here are the fandoms you're most likely to see (in no particular order):
Pokemon/Pokeani
Ace Attorney
Bleach
Inuyasha
Animal Crossing
Stardew Valley
Love Nikki
Undertale
Other things to know about me:
Personal posts will be tagged as [#mel's musings].
I have two tags [#little songbird] and [#forest for the tree] for my OCs Sylvia and Denise, respectively. They're my two pseudo self-inserts reflecting different aspects of my personality that I can throw into whatever fictional universe I'm hyperfixating on in the moment for my own enjoyment. Specific details about the plotlines I create are for me to know (aside from any brief ramblings I may leave in tags) but if you're curious about the characters themselves I'm more than happy to talk about them! I love my girls <3
In addition to the fandoms listed above I am also EXTREMELY autistic about music—I have a background in piano/classical singing and have been in choirs all my life since 4th grade. I have been bestowed with the blessed (and sometimes cursed) combination of absolute pitch as well as pitch-color synesthesia. The former is the ability to identify pitches without a reference note and the latter is a phenomenon where my brain associates certain musical keys with certain colors, temperatures and scenery among other things. It is a HUGE special interest of mine—ask me questions about it and I will literally love you until the end of time I'm serious. Even if it's as simple as sending me a song and asking what color it is or asking me for thoughts on video game OSTs because I have a LOT
A follow-up to the above point: I love all things music theory and analysis and whatnot but in my excitement I have a tendency to get a bit TOO technical sometimes. I will do my best to make things as accessible as possible in my personal posts or when answering questions directed towards me (unless you specify it's not needed) but if that's not your niche any posts of this nature will be tagged as [#music nerd shit].
BE WARY OF FOLLOWING IF:
You are weird about multishipping. I like many ships for many different reasons and there's a lot of overlap between characters (just as an example: for Ace Attorney I am primarily a Narumitsu/Wrightworth shipper but I also enjoy Krisnix, Feenris, Gumworth and Langworth and I will make posts about all of them). All ship posts are tagged as such but it's something to be mindful of
You are a minor. You know yourself and what you're comfortable with better than I do but be aware that I'm an adult who posts about adult topics sometimes, and should you choose to follow me I am not responsible for you stumbling upon content that you are not ready for (and should you choose to complain to me as such I've got a block button with your name on it). This is the only warning I will give on this topic so please heed it accordingly
You dislike long tag ramblings. I tend to do that a lot, so if that's not something you can just Ignore than this blog may not be the place for you (side note: if my tags on a post ever don't make sense there's a decent chance I'm just having a conversation with one of my mutuals through tags because some of them Do That. Deal with it)
You are overly invested in pro/anti discourse. I have things that squick me out just like anyone else but if I see something I don't like I just block and move on. It is not my job to police the behavior of random strangers on the internet and I don't need any of you weirdos trying to convince me it is please for the love of god go outside
KEEP YOUR TERF/RADFEM BULLSHIT, EXCLUSIONISM OR BIGOTRY OF ANY KIND THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME. IF I SEE ANY OF THAT SHIT I WILL BLOCK ON SIGHT
If you follow me and need anything specific tagged (whether it be for spoilers or other reasons), shoot me a message and I'm more than happy to oblige.
My askbox is always open if you'd like to talk about anything at all whether it be fandom shit, music nerd shit or otherwise. If you'd prefer me to answer privately please specify as such when writing your ask.
If we are mutuals and you'd like to get to know me more, feel free to message and ask for my Discord! I'm not a part of any servers at the moment because that sort of thing intimidates me, but I do enjoy talking to my friends there and you could be one of them. If you'd like. But you need to make that clear to me first so hmu if you're interested <3
And that's about it, really! Enjoy your time here and I hope something nice happens to you today <333

Ace attorney fic recs please please plea
oh my god i got you holy shit (these r in order from personal favorite to least favorite of my list) (also basically all of these have no nsfw bc i Don't Like It and mainly narumitsu bc i those r my guys) (also also ones in green most likely have spoilers for lategame aj and dd/soj stuff i didn't check but its likely)
and the tree was happy - my personal fave atm, really neat character study especially of phoenix and trucy, its sort of canon compliant but it twists everything around and its great (AJ SPOILERS THO)
project matchmakers - literally like just a bunch of fun. fluffy shit and it has a whole bunch of characters from different eras meeting each other i had a lot of fun with it
running in the shadows - really cool superhero au where edgeworth is a daredevil type hero and phoenix is a detective and they rewrite a lot of the first game to work in a universe with supers in it and its really cool
the phantoms curse - PIRATE AU MY BELOVED i havent read this one in so long but it is so much fun i adore it
turnabout sole - silly little bodyswap fic that doubles as a casefic it is goofy it is wacky it has trucy AND franziska in it what more could you ask for
angel of the screens, demon of the courtroom - aa1 except phoenix is a celebrity this one is still ongoing ive read like the first 4 chapters i think? but its really promising and also mia is there and i love mia so much
the playwright - this one is so funny to me and it also explores phoenixs head during aj i like it a lot and its by one of my favorite authors
da capo al fine - its also been forever since ive read this one but i am such a sucker for really vivid descriptions of music and this has it and it delights me. as far as i remember there was nsfw in part of one chapter but there was a warning before so you could skip it
the wedding planner - the only reason this one is so far down is bc it has a couple typos but like its so charming its so endearing phoenix does not like fondant
how to court a fool in under three months - this one is a classic edgeworth has three months to ask out phoenix or else phoenix starts seeing a mystery person picked by trucy ooooooo its literally just a rom com but with ace attorney i enjoy it immensely
fire in snow - violently overdramatic high fantasy au that i enjoyed a lot i dont normally like royalty scenarios but this one is Neat
legal partners - i am actually legally bound to put this here it is like THE ace attorney fic. its not my favorite in terms of plot (theres a whole liar revealed plotline and i personally do not like those) but like there are so so many good scenes i still come back to the board game night one and cherish it with everything in me

Ever since I accidentally picked up and played DGS, I knew I needed to play PLVSPW. I decided to alternate playing ace attorney games with professor layton games until I finished the main trilogies for both and could finally play plvspw, and it was so worth the wait. I love this game so much it is everything I could have hoped and more, so so so much more. Highly recommend to honestly anyone!!!

Summary
This game is everything I hoped it would be. yes it's a Professor Layton crossover, but it also has the charm of DGS x Princess tutu x tunic. The ending was very layton-esque, along with all the reveals. I truly had such an amazing time playing this game. I was initially introduced to this because I heard that DGS was inspired by it, so it was my mission to play both aa and pl's original trilogies before playing. And I am so glad I did bc the wait was so worth it. You can absolutely see the influence this game and professor layton had on Shu Takumi. There's so much passion and creativity between plvspw an dgs that makes playing them all the more enjoyable. I loved how all the main characters interacted with each other, I especially loved how hershel and phoenix swapped assistants. The new characters were also so fun. Espella, Barnham, Darklaw, the story-teller, they were all so unique and enjoyable to interact with. The animation was stellar. This 3D style really works for both PL and AA and im so glad both series took inspiration from it. The music and art was phenomenal, this game honestly should win awards if it hasn't already done so. I also love how any character pulled into an aa game will have their gay moments: phoenix x hershel and espella x eve especially. I can't wait to make art or even write for this game, I will definitely add scenes from this to my ballet au ^^! What a phenomenal game, what a fun premise with the most convoluted layton-esque ending. It was so perfectly I highly recommend!!

!!! tell me 3 things you like about the great ace attorney!
The story is pretty great- some of the characters are really goofy and I love it! Herlock Sholmes is the most stereotypical dumb blonde British idiot I’ve ever fucking met and that’s ok! Iris is so smart and yet she’s so adorable- also she’s such an accomplished ten year old. Gina made me cry like a baby at the end of the last case and i wanted to give her the biggest hug! Kazuma was so cool- his headband was so flappy and just aaaaa! He’s definitely one of my favorite characters of all time. Susato was just an all around sweetheart when she wasn’t THROWING your ass across a room (it’s called the Susato Takedown). Barok Van Zieks needs to FUCKING CHILL- sir please get your Wellingtons off the table the iron heels might scratch it- AND STOP THROWING WINE BOTTLES IN COURT! Ryunosuke honestly grew on me- you can see the resemblance to Phoenix Wright in his sprites and design which makes sense because Ryunosuke is his ancestor.
The new mechanics! Technically they aren’t REALLY new since this game has been out in Japan since 2015 and just got its an official release a few years ago due to the existence of the character of Sherlock Holmes (changed to herlock sholmes due to American copyright laws). Specifically the dance of deduction is something i REALLY enjoyed in the first game and I’m hoping to see more of it as I enter into the second game. Dancing around the room with Herlock is such great fun! Though his logic does need corrected half the time!
GOD THE MUSIC- THE MUSIC IS SO FUCKING GOOD!!!! The Dance of Deduction theme is so fucking catchy it’s SO FUCKING GOOD!!! Oh oh oh and we can’t forget about this

subverting expectations & doing this instead of music... heres Top video games i played in 2022 no order
1.) Cruelty squad.... obsessed. gnarly, gunky, gross. genuinely gets me laughin + I actually really love the controls + level design. only complaint is no multi-player. Give me a grappendix irl.
2.) Vampire survivors... don't even talk 2 me ab this one. far far far too many hours on this... time killer supreme.
3.) Risk of rain 2... another one I've played an stupid amount of hours. and wouldn't you know. I'm still god awful at it. great game. rex my beloved
4.) SMT Devil Survivor 2... I love strategy RPGs. neat story + good characters + satisfying game play!! Still not done w/this bc there's more endings i haven't gotten but still love it. Don't remind me there's probably never gonna be a 3rd ....
5.) Minecraft... can u believe I only started playing this game this year?? one of the hardest games of all time. shoutout Andrew for always playing w/me !
6.) Ace attorney trilogy... oooo yeah baby that's the good stuff. Looking forward to playing the rest of thee series. Hilarious.
7.) Hades... rougelikes will be the death of me. Probably gonna sink hours into thee sequel as well .
8.) Hylics 2... haven't finished it yet still lol but WOW. unmatched. thee absolute best art style/aesthetics on this list hands down.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Smash ultimate... so fun. I can fall into the rabbit hole if I play too much. Also awful at it. Better with friends but loads of fun regardless
Killer 7... I enjoy this quite a bit but I haven't finished it and I'm really shite at it! Love the concept and the story is weird . Ticks all the boxes but yeah.
Morrowind... absolutely brutal. playing w/no mods. have barely scratched the surface and probably won't for a while. I respect it more than I enjoy it
20 minutes til dawn... vampire survivors but more clicking. mixed feelings ab this new "hoard of enemies" type of game that VS seems to have inspired but I got decent milage out of this.
Libble rabble... wheeee!!!
Automaton lung... just started this yesterday. 40 minutes in and it's a stone cold classic.
But yeah that's all I got for ya! got a big backlog for 2023.

I WAS GONNA ASK ABOUT STEEL RESOLVE i want you to talk about it more. or preff just because i miss it so dearly. or price of living on because slutch. up to you
SO I WROTE LIKE A WHOLE THING ABOUT THIS AND THEN TUMBLR'S EDITOR CRASHED OR SOMETHING AND I LOST ALL OF IT
👍 GOOD WEBSITE
anyway i'll try to recreate it. steel resolve my good friend steel resolve! i'll get back to it someday, i think, so i don't want to reveal too much so as not to trick my brain into thinking i've written it already. i will say though i made that title when i finished chapter 1 and if i could go back and change it i would absolutely put the word dragon in there somewhere i feel like i've made a metaphor of ryunosuke being a dragon or like a dragon at least once a chapter
major dgs/dgs2 spoilers under the cut!
so Steel Resolve is an AU of dgs where, on the SS burya, kazuma reveals to ryunosuke his true purpose in london: as not just a lawyer, but half of an assassin exchange. when kazuma "dies" on the burya, he leaves ryunosuke to have to perform that mission, too.
given that it's an AU of the whole duology there, it follows the events of the games pretty closely, with notable exceptions popping up here and there for important "divergent" moments, i.e. his relationship with karuma and susato, his meetings with lord stronghart and tobias gregson, his pursuit of law, kazuma's "revival", and so on. most of the big events are generally the same until of course the final cases, which are, without getting too far into it, absolutely going to feature the time-honored ace attorney tradition of putting a lawyer named naruhodo on trial for murder.
that final trial is what i've probably been thinking about the most since there are some of the dgs ost songs on my Music Library that just bring it to mind every time (most notably Reaper of the Old Bailey and Revival of the Great Prosecutor), and i really hope to write it someday. i've never written an ace attorney style mystery before, and i think it'd be a ton of fun!
all of steel resolve that exists is already on ao3 except for the chapter i'm currently working on, so here's an excerpt from that chapter just for fun!
"Continue," Lord Stronghart interrupts, sharply enough to snag the rest of her objections in her throat. A sneer seems to ghost across his face for a moment. "And speak up, for God's sake."
Naruhodo-san grimaces again, fidgeting with Karuma. By the time he settles his hands, they've both somehow found their way to its hilt, braced and faintly trembling. Susato furrows her brow, because something in her is insisting that the way he's holding the blade looks rather familiar—
"My—my position hasn't changed on that either!" he blurts out, as if the words need to be forced from his throat. He bows, stiff and awkward around the blade in his hands. "...My lord."
It strikes her then, like the chime of a clock.
That's one of the stances I taught him.
something i really enjoy doing with steel resolve is reflecting a subtle detail that dgs does already, which is having the use of honorifics as opposed to english titles ("naruhodo-san" as opposed to "mr. naruhodo") to denote what language is being spoken in or thought in by the character. it's a really cool trick for showing that off in a game that is, y'know, translated entirely into english.
with a fic like this, i also get to implement the different names characters use in their narration to refer to other characters (for instance, when referring to ryunosuke naruhodo, susato's POV chapter uses "naruhodo-san" while kazuma's used "ryunosuke") in order to reflect their different relationships! it's very fun i love to do a little trick

For my 1k milestone...
First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Wtf, I can't believe this has happened, but I'm certainly not complaining, I hope I can continue to make stuff that yous get along with.
Below I'm going to share a little of my interests by which I mean other blokes I mentally whore myself for, think of it like a watchmojo top nine of some of my shameful lustings. That and also me humanising this blog a little lmao.
no.1 Michael De Santa - GTA V
Like I'm not even lowkey obsessed with Michael it's and 24/7 365 full-time job at this point. I don't know if it's because he's a crook, or mid-life crisis age, or married, or violent, probably a mixture of all that, but yeah I'm addicted. I only recently got back into Gta V, I was a kid when it came out but used to sneakily play it on my mate's stepdad's xbox. We'd have to dig out the disk under empty boxes of L&B Blue lmao.
Reminiscing aside, Michael De Santa has been a fixation of mine for a long time and the lust is out of hibernation. I'd sell my soul, or whatever is left, to be his little bit on the side. If he was uh yk... real.
Tumblr media
no.2 Rafe Adler - Uncharted 4
Oh my god, Rafe. Like they knew exactly what they were doing with his design and characterisation, he's just lush. A spoiled, rich boy with something to prove? With fucking bangs? Who FENCES?! What's not to like? I think he's got a little short man syndrome and I'm crazy for that shit lmao.
And bro, the climax fight scene where he's all sweaty and bloody is just otherworldly hot.
Tumblr media
no.3 Capt. Boomerang/ George Harkness - (The) Suicide Squad.
Another crook, huh? He's just very nice, especially in the first(?) Suicide Squad (the one with Will Smith), bros got his biceps out and he's hairy and rough as a dog's arse. I mean Jai Courteney is just gajhdoifljkwjouhjlj. Also uh GOLD TEETH. He's so much fun too, the shafting of Slipknot just to see if the implants are real? The constant larger drinking? Gold. They should call me boomerang the way I bounce back to this guy all the time.
Tumblr media
no.4 Johnny Cage - Mortal Kombat franchise
I'm always at a toss up between Johnny and Kano, I like both a lot but Johnny takes the cake. He's fun to play as, his lines are great. And he looks like that. The tattoo of his name on his chest, I just love men who are in love with themselves, ego for the win.
I've always been a Street Fighter lass but I'd turn coat for Johnny boy any day.
Tumblr media
no.5 Mile Edgeworth - Ace Attorney
Ik I'm sorry, I just love the trilogy and he's so flamboyant and silly I just can't cope. I swear I'm not the kind of person who pashes on a bloke who unironically wears a cravat, but Edgeworth hits different. Also the reoccurrence of Ms. Oldbag makes me laugh too much. Ergo, Edgy-boy is making the list.
Tumblr media
no.6 King Dice - Cuphead
The style, the pizazz, the showmanship; I LIVE. I just love him, the obvious nod to Cab Calloway is much appreciated, my nana used to listen to his old records all the time.
That wholesome bit out of the way, I'm a sucker for the era Cuphead is set in, all the fashion and music and early animation, it's still brilliant. And KD being the kind of guy who takes his coat off before he kicks the shit out of you with a designer shoe is just wow. Oh and moustaches are just fucking great, aren't they?
Tumblr media
no.7 Tanner Grayson - Scrutinized
I love Tanner and his silly little jumpscare where he pops up in front of the camera. His character is the right mix of goofy and seriously menacing, just the lengths he goes to in the game are scary. Fuck syringes in general are scary. When he peeps around the corner before hiding in the cupboard- the first time that happened to me I was bricking it BIG time. But then he jumped on top of me/Luna and all was forgiven.
Tumblr media
no.8 Frankie Donovan - Empire of Sin
Okay this might be an obscure one, ever played Empire of Sin? I found it on game pass a while back and was hooked, I tell you. 1920s prohibition gang life in Chicago, the history nerd in me vibrates with excitement. The characters are just smashing (literally sometimes), not just the bosses but the mobsters too. Frankie is by far the funniest boss to play as, he takes the piss out of everyone, swears like a sailor the whole time, he's just a ten out of ten experience. And the fact that he's always got scuffed knuckles and a bloody nose, just gets me going ngl. I wish I could be 'ina chara beag aige'.
Tumblr media
no.9 Sammy Lawrence - Bendy and the Ink Machine
I sense an early 20th century theme here. Look, Ik nothing abut the game lore, I never played it, only watched Jacksepticeye and the like play the first game when it came out. But I do know a pathetic, screw-loose maniac when I see one, and I do here. The scene where he nabs the player and they wake to him monologuing about Bendy like he's some sort of god is brilliant and highkey turns me on.
Tumblr media
All these are "gents" I've thought about writing for, but idk if it'd be any good lmao.

Uh 2021 Games List A Whole Year+ Late
Whoops, forgot about this since time hasn't been real for the last couple of years. I rank based on enjoyment of a game, not if the story or gameplay are particularly great, and to me a 3=pretty good. But it's a vague and nebulous system, it's all fake anyway. In order from March to December 2021:
Tumblr media
Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire - ?/5
Obsidian Entertainment, 2018
A more quippy and light-hearted tone than its predecessor, it feels like a tabletop game with every character trying to outwit each other and make the snarkiest comment. Some people like that, I don't so much. The true interesting story of colonialism is kneecapped by the generic main plot involving gods that already had their time to shine in the first game. Combat is more polished and fun and the AI improved and the environments are gorgeous. Companions are interesting but have underdeveloped sidequests and awkwardly implemented romances, and some companions just drive me so crazy I couldn't stand to even hear them. The PC's background and opinions never felt relevant, even in places that they really should have been. I never finished this game, as the main plot simply could not grab me enough once it was all that was left. I loved PoE 1, but despite my disappointment with Deadfire I admit it's not a bad game, just not my jam. I didn't rank it because I want to revisit later, I think I can enjoy this game just not right now.
Tumblr media
Persona 5 Royal - 1.5/5
Atlus, 2020
Much needed gameplay improvements and social additions are undermined by a thematically inconsistent final act and questionable character writing. The new characters are clunkily forced in resulting in a love 'em or hate 'em feeling, and a lingering thought that perhaps they should've been saved for a spin-off rather than tacked onto an already complete game.
Tumblr media
Persona 5 Strikers - 3/5
Atlus, 2020
The Persona series' strongest sequel (Eternal Punishment doesn't count) focusing on the friendship between characters and slight rehashing of original game themes with a twist. The new characters introduced far exceed Royal's new additions, and meld into the exhisting cast with more ease. Overdone tropes and a particularly bad moral lesson regarding child abuse give a mixed-postive takeaway.
Tumblr media
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective - 5/5
Capcom, 2010
Oh, to live in a world where Ghost Trick got a million sequels instead of Ace Attorney. A fun puzzler with a cute gimmick and fascinating characters with stellar music and the best animation on the DS. A few eyeroll moments in the last hour may harsh my vibe a bit, but not much. Like most wacky detective games, it's more fun playing with other people instead of alone.
Tumblr media
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines - 4.5/5
Troika Games, 2004
Considered a classic for a reason, with a myriad of roleplay opportunity, tons of interesting characters, and some of the best voice acting I've ever heard in a game. The latter half of the game is much less polished and a combat slog, but the first half more than makes up for it. I didn't appreciate the very aged early 00's humor, complete with some edginess and off-colour "jokes" - Chinatown is a bit of a Yikes. Still great fun, jank and all, and deserves a modern installment. Pour one out for the almost surely dead sequel; this franchise is truly cursed. On my biannual replay list.
Tumblr media
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - 4/5
Eidos-Montréal, 2011
Adam Jensen is by far the most interesting protagonist in the Deus Ex series, and you can feel that this game's world is on the precipice of massive upheaval and change. It's the calm before the storm, and then when the storm hits it hits so hard. I love how there's no good ending in this game, I love how much it leans into media personalities influencing the minds of a populace, and I love the gold filter! Maybe I like this one more than the original Deus Ex because it takes place during the growing period between a modern world and the cyberpunk dystopia it's destined to become.
Tumblr media
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - 3/5
Eidos-Montréal, 2016
Opposite of the original Deus Ex, I expected this game to be bad due to its reputation. Perhaps that lowered expectation allowed me to be pleasantly surprised by it instead. The story isn't the best, and it desperately needs another game due to the abrupt ending, but the gameplay is a blast. Felt nice unleashing on the police once night fell. Prague is so so so fun to explore, probably one of my favorite game hubs I've ever played in. Still hoping for that third game to close out Adam's story.

Deus Ex - 2/5
Ion Storm, 2000
Maybe I'm just too much of an radical but nothing this game said felt very mindblowing or earth shattering. The gameplay was passable, stealth was fun, but I think I was just too late to the party on this one. The fandom needs to chill out on reccommending this to everyone as "the best game ever made", because it just creates expecations that won't be met. I obviously chose the "Dark Age" ending; I was surpsied, it assumes the worst of humanity and thinks we'll go back to the dark ages from losing technology that didn't exist prior to the 1910s. But again, maybe I'm just too much of an radical and can tell when the leftist ending is written to appear worse than it really would be. Honestly this feels like a game that a lot of libertarians built their entire personalities off of.

Crusader Kings II - 3.5/5
Paradox Entertainment, 2012-2018
A fun rpg hidden in a grand strategy game, and this wonderful combination has spoiled me for every other grand strategy. Base game is servicable but restrictive; DLC and mods are what make the game shine. Massive timesink game, never truly ends. The total for the many packs of DLC is quite expensive; I'm not a fan of Paradox's business model. Score lowered due to the DLC prices as well as bizarre mechanics with some inter-religious stuff. Does anybody actually take part in the Crusades in this game? I sure don't. Too busy plotting against my liege.

Bloodborne - 5/5
FromSoftware, 2015
I loved this game so much that I started a second character while still in the middle of my first playthrough. This game was the gateway to FromSoft titles for me, after years of being on the outside looking in. It's no longer my favorite Fromsoft title, but it will always have a place in my heart. Fighting the Bloody Crow is in my top 10 game moments, easily the most fun duel I've ever had. Also, the singing eyeball creatures are singing the Hunter's Dream melody! Marvelous.

A Plague Tale: Innocence - 1.5/5
Asobo Studio, 2019
If this were a tech demo that ended at the battlefield level I would have been far more entranced and liked it more. This game goes off the rails so hard in a way I can only roll my eyes at, and that's not accounting for the poor pacing and bizarre story choices. What could have been a simple story of survival and family turned into a circus of rats and murder. I don't understand how this is a darling for so many people.

Life Is Strange: True Colors - 1/5
Deck Nine, 2021
Goddammit. I wanted to like this game so much. Alex's powers are the most interesting of the LiS bunch, even if they're not explained all too well and often change the rules. Alex herself is fine enough - she's a bit of a dick, and has a personality that I enjoy seeing. But the game falls apart when it comes to story - the most interesting parts (Alex's past, her relationship with her brother and parents, the core mystery) are pushed aside in favor of larp sessions, aimless wandering, and a forced musical interlude at a festival. When the plot finally wakes back up it dives into a non-twist that was so predictable I was hoping it was a fakeout and then goes straight for completely ridiculous acts of human survivability. Alex should have died multiple times over in the last few hours of the game but miraculously walks off fatal injuries with nothing more than some aspirin and self-righteous spirit. This would be fine on its own, but the series has established what is and isn't survivable - characters in the first two games died from something that Alex shrugs off. The individual characters are some of the most interesting in the LiS series, but the story is easily the worst. I keep thinking of how good this could've been. Maybe next time Deck Nine will get it, but I'll miss Dontnod being at the helm. Also maybe I'm petty but I fucking *wish* there were small towns in the Colorado that were this diverse and inclusive where someone could get by on a meager wage. Ugh.

The Sims 4 - 2?/5
EA Games, 2015
Really only playable with mods and all the DLC. Can't believe it's still on live service in 2023.

Darkest Dungeon - 3.5/5
Red Hook Studios, 2015
Darkest Dungeon is probably my most "pick up, get bored, put down" game I've ever played. I like the conceit, I like the setting, I like the classes. I hate the grind. Even on Radiant Mode it becomes a slog after a while, but I was determined to see it through to the end. Which, as it turns out, wasn't to far off from my last "put down" spot years ago. I still think the grind is to the game's detriment, and overall I'm not a fan of vaguely Lovecraftian horror - Bloodborne is toeing that line for me - and the final four part dungeon has a brutally harsh gimmick that can blindside a player. However the final boss of this game was delightful. I kept Reynauld and Dismas in my rotation the whole game, and sent them both to the final boss. Only one returned. It was a heartbreaking moment, but a fitting one. I think the series should have ended here, to be honest.

Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye (DLC) - 3/5
Mobius Digital, 2021
As I write this I'm replaying the DLC, in hopes to enjoy it more than in 2021. Unfortunately I don't. The delightful puzzles and poignant moments are undercut by the unforgiving traversal of the new major area, a long return time, and a tedious stealth mechanic. The DLC itself is the length of a full game, and I commend Mobius for their creativity in an entirely new area in an already jam packed game. All that said, less fun Outer Wilds is still Outer Wilds, and that comes with a good time regardless. I just hope next time they leave the inky black stealth sections on the cutting room floor. Bummer we can't really tell any other hearthians about our discoveries :( I know Riebeck would like to learn about it.

Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition - 3/5
Bioware (1998), Beamdog (2012)
Baldur's Gate is an odd game to me. I played through once, and found it aged and not that great; I used to have this rated as 2 stars. But I couldn't stop thinking about the game and ended up replaying a few months later and enjoying it a lot. So, I guess I like it? I don't know, maybe it's kind of like a sugary candy where you don't like it much but you keep eating because the sugar is addicting. Perhaps I merely craved a late 90s rpg. I'm fond of all the companions I took in those two save files, and that's one of the problems: too many companions, likely because the devs didn't expect players would care for them. But I do! I would die for Ajantis, nobody knows me like Khalid and Jaheira know me, and sure I guess Imoen can come along too. So long as she understands I like Xan and Coran more than her. Probably the second biggest untwist, after True Colors. Not a big fan of the chosen one narrative in any game, but it was the late 90s so I can forgive it.

Return of the Obra Dinn - 5/5
3909 LLC, 2018
This was the last game I played in 2021, on New Year's Eve. A single shot, 11 hours straight. I loved this game so much. I honestly don't have words other than I love it. I love the gimmick, I love the music, I love the various color palettes you can choose from, I love the investigation and detective work required from the player, I love learning the story in nonchronological pieces, I love how it's a tragedy and I love how there is truly nothing else like it on the market. I hope beyond hope that something will come close to the gameplay again, but I'm more than content with just this. Very thankful to have such a stellar game to end an otherwise bad year on.
