lol remember when eivor was like "i will not be captive to another man's gaudy design. my destiny is mine to weave." and then she. proceeded to be captive to a man's idea of what she should be and did not, in fact, weave her own destiny because she was too busy following the old god in her head despite having previously expressed blatant disinterest (and that's putting it mildly) in doing so. and then after finally finding safety and comfort among her people after a lifetime of scrounging and clawing for every ounce of happiness she ever got she then proceeded to die alone on the opposite side of an ocean from everyone who ever loved her and who she loved in return.

Crack AU concept: Every Second Age Finwëan apart from Galadriel doesn’t actually have the origin they’re commonly purported to have:
No one is sure of Gil-Galad’s parentage because he’s actually a highly competent Green-Elf who looked around at the general chaos and destruction near the end of the First Age, sighed, rolled up his sleeves, and decided that someone had to start taking responsibility for this shit.  Look, he never actually stated that he was anyone’s son, it’s just that people are more likely to listen to someone named “Scion of Kings” than they are to a random (if exceedingly capable) elf, and the assumptions kind of snowballed from there.  His favourite pastime is dropping contradictory hints about his parentage and watching the ensuing confusion.
The fact of the matter is, Celebrimbor is a popular name among Elves.  There was a Celebrimbor of Gondolin and a Celebrimbor of Doriath and even a Falmari Celebrimbor, formerly of Aman, who insists that he was the first Celebrimbor.  They also all happened to be very skilled craftspeople so maybe there’s something to the name after all.  So when a dark haired Elf with incredible skills in craft shows up in Lindon after the war calling himself Celebrimbor, son of Curufin, the only part that anyone bats an eye at is the “son of Curufin” part because who would knowingly associate themselves with the House of Fëanor in this day and age?  Surely nobody would lie about that, and if they wouldn’t lie about that, why would they lie about anything else?
When it comes down to it, nobody really understands what it means to be peredhel, and especially not when it comes to their lifespan and aging.  Furthermore, nobody really knows what happened to Elwing’s sons after the Third Kinslaying; everybody just assumed they were taken hostage and/or killed.  Therefore, when during the War of Wrath, a pair of grown, clearly half-elven twins with a strong resemblance to Lúthien wash up in Balar, everybody assumes (with more than a little wishful thinking) that they must be Elwing’s sons, miraculously spared by the Fëanorians.  As for the twins themselves, they feel more than a little guilty about assuming the identities of the nephews they never met, but they also figure that if they told the truth of their survival, they might be disbelieved or taken for spies of Morgoth, so they’ll go along with it for now and if their nephews do turn up, they’ll deal with it then?
(They did actually turn up a few decades into the Second Age, having been in the East where Maglor sent them before shit really started going down.  They’re honestly just delighted to have living family more or less on this side of the Sea, and agree that it’d be too much of a bother to reverse the identity confusion now.  One of them decides to go back east to the Greenwood where he’d made some good friends with the Silvan elves there, the other stays on with “Elrond” as a councillor and ambiguous “kinsman” who helps him fill in any missing details in the story)
Out of all of them, Celebrían is actually the child of Galadriel and Celeborn.  Sometimes people are a little confused because they heard once that her parents had a son, Amroth, but it’s chalked down to poor communication and confusion with Amdír’s son since Amdír was friends with her parents.  Celebrían thinks it was incredibly tacky to give your child the same name as your friend’s child, so really, she was doing her parents a big favour by renaming herself Celebrían.  And honestly, while they don’t mind being Amroth (the superior Amroth because Amdírion is an idealistic romantic with his head in the clouds), they also like being Celebrían a little more.
(Galadriel concedes that naming them Amroth was not the most creative move and that Celeborn possibly lost a bet with Amdír before their birth, but she also thinks that Celebrían could do better than the lady of a little valley in the middle of nowhere, so really, Celebrían’s had enough of her mother’s advice for the next long-year or two)
+Gildor never claimed to be Finrod’s son, he’s just never actually disclosed how they’re related and since none of the other Finwëans (real or otherwise) have ever said anything about it, people just sort of follow their lead and assume it’s a non-issue.  It’s actually the most mundane thing ever - his parents were among Finrod’s retainers in Aman and crossed the Ice with him; when they were both slain in the Dagor Aglareb, Finrod took the young Gildor on as a ward of his House.

I have really mixed feelings about the small proportion of F/F fiction (original or fanfic), because yeah sure, people have their desires, they should write what they want, I get it. It all works out when I hear it from person to person. But somehow the logic only ever applies in one direction? "There are more male protagonists because men only care about male characters! Women also mostly care about male characters, because that's the majority of characters they get!" And then somehow we also yet kvetch when men write female characters (because it's incorrectly or something, nevermind if women are writing male characters correctly). Why don't we expect gay men to feel compelled only by femslash for the same reasons (but gender swapped) as the lesbian slashers/fujoshi? All of those very rational justifications are applied selectively, "for me for not for thee," and it all only leads to "idk I just don't wanna write femslash", for Reasons. Do we get to call them microaggressions yet?
--
No, you don't get to call other people's fantasy life a microaggression.
That is indeed "for me but not for thee" in the sense that you get to want what you want but other people aren't supposed to follow their id.
Do you also police gay men who spend too much time on drag and obsessing over female divas? That's an actual real world behavior that's somewhat equivalent. It frequently goes unchallenged, at least by progressives, because men are allowed to do whatever they want with chick stuff, while women are "stealing" if they dare to stray into dude stuff.
(God, I've seen so much more policing of drag kings being ~problematic~ for acting out stereotypical gender than policing of drag queens for the same. It's nuts!)
Fujoshi are often queer, but it's absurd to think we're mostly lesbians. We tend to be bi or asexual women with gender stuff going on, though there is a mix of everybody, including lesbians. There are also a lot of AFAB non-women who get lumped in with us. On the rare occasions I find a man willing to admit to being a similar demographic, he usually does like gender play in his hobbies and entertainment. It's just that men face even more pressure than women do to fit into tidy categories. Bi women get told we're whores. Bi men are told they don't exist.
Yes, I know plenty of lesbians who write more m/m than f/f, but in the big picture of all of AO3 or all of fanfic or all of media, they aren't the demographic driving these numbers. They're vastly outnumbered by the bi women, the asexual women, and the straight and gnc women.
The men we should be looking at as an equivalent aren't cis gay men but bicurious soy boys and the like.
Do most of us fujoshi object to equivalent men doing an equivalent thing? I've seen it sometimes, and I agree it's hypocritical. I'd like us to afford men the same ability to play and take on identities in their art. I remember enjoying Ranma fandom back in the day and reading quite a lot of f/f that was probably by men. It had some of that same sense of distance and fantasy that I so enjoy in m/m aimed at fujoshi. (I do consume some by-cis-gay, for-cis-gay content, both m/m and f/f, but it's often too literal and too bound up in specific named identities for my taste.)
On average, the people I see complaining most about men producing f/f material are the same people who think that because I have a clit, I should center my life around women exclusively. In other words, people spouting radfem ideology, perhaps on purpose or perhaps without realizing.
I do agree that some of the ways of expressing a lack of desire to write femslash can get pretty douchey. I want us to move away from some of the less accurate ones like "There are no compelling female characters" because of this.
But the reason for all these jerkass explanations is that women and people perceived as women who like m/m are constantly asked to explain ourselves. These aren't usually microaggressions: they're openly hostile. People get defensive and try to answer with important-sounding reasons about identity and pain because society at large won't accept "I like this" as the true explanation.
Pleasure is never enough of a reason for a woman to do something.

What the TWST Boys wear to bed
Riddle Rosehearts
Classic simple button up pajamas set. Probably red and soft, like satin or some other nice fabric. Does not wear them anywhere but in his room, except on the third Tuesday of every other month, according to the Queen of Hearts Rule #629. He even has a little night cap.
Trey Clover
A simple man, he wears an old white shirt and red pajama bottoms with cupcakes designs on them. He follows the Queen of Hearts rules for pajama wearing, though if he gets the urge to bake at 3 am he’s not putting on regular clothes to do it, only adding some slippers to the mix. Riddle just sighs in disappointment when he catches Trey breaking the rules.
Cater Diamond
He had a normal pair of pajamas packed, but then his sisters raided his suitcase. Now he’s stuck in this frilly pink nightgown. He’s glad that it’s long sleeved and to his ankle, with an admittedly cute swoop neckline. He ends up borrowing a pair of pajama pants from Trey and sleeps in those when he absolutely can’t stand it anymore. He only wears the nightgown in his room.
Deuce Spade
He’s a good normal boy, who wears good normal boy pajamas to bed. And by that, I mean it’s a blue plaid pajama pants and a matching shirt with a cauldron on it. He really loves cauldrons, okay? He would wear it around the dorm if Riddle doesn’t yell at him for breaking the rules.
Ace Trappola
He falls into bed wearing whatever he was wearing for the day. He will take off his shoes, jacket, and tie, but that’s it. It’s really gross when he drops into bed with his basketball uniform on.
Leona Kingscholar
He sleeps nude. Ruggie is so tired of waking up Leona and seeing his bare butt. If he MUST go out, he throws on a silk robe that reminds you that he is a rich prince.
Ruggie Bucchi
He’s poor and can’t afford regular pajamas. He sleeps in an old threadbare shirt and boxers until the shirt ripped too much, then Leona gave him an old shirt to replace it. He can and WILL wear them around the dorm because he doesn’t give a shit.
Jack Howl
A simple boy, he choses the classic plaid pajama bottoms and that’s all. He will put on a shirt if someone needs him after jammy time.
Azul Ashengrotto
He wears a nice set of silken lavender pajamas.
Jade Leech
Like Azul, wears a nice set of silken pajamas. His are black, like his heart, with little mushroom designs on them.
Floyd Leech
He wants to sleep naked but Jade says no. Instead he goes for the classic gray sweat pants or basketball shorts, even if he hates them.
Kalim Al-Asim
We all know what this boy wears to bed. That nice little halter style red shirt and white shorts. Whore (affectionate). He actually hosts pajama parties for the dorm.
Jamil Viper
A simple classic boy, wears a set of red sweat pants and a white tank top. Has been forced into these pajama parties against his will.
Vil Schoenheit
A GNC king, he wears a beautiful spaghetti strap long purple night gown, with a sheer robe to cover it. He also uses a purple headbands to keep his hair out of his eyes and of course his nightly face mask.
Rook Hunt
Surprisingly, he doesn’t go all out with his nightwear. A white shirt and a pair of black basketball shorts, pajama pants when it gets too cold.
Epel Felmier
He’s a MAN, a MANLY MAN, who wears only the manliest of man pajamas: nothing. Or at least he tried, until Vil yelled at him. Now he wears the apple themed pajama set his mama packed.
Idia Shroud
Some kind of anime merchandise inspired set or some kind of RSA Ignihyde theme assigned PJ set. That is under the assumption he DOES sleep.
Ortho Shroud
Is robot. He doesn’t need clothes.
Malleus Draconia
He is a fae prince and he is dressed like one would think a fae prince would for sleep. It’s black and green, dramatic, making you question if it even is pajamas. But it’s so soft and silky.
Lilia Vanrouge
Spaghetti strap hot pink shirt, a pair of black shorts, and neon green socks. I don’t know why but he gives me these vibes.
Silver
Half of his wardrobe is pajamas. All designs, all types. He randomly picks every night.
Sebek Zigvolt
Wears a classic black pajama set with lightening bolts on the pants.

Can you do headcanons for a Red Son and Macaque’s reaction to the Reader bring Inked away by Azure during the final Battle. Like As if instead of Red Son it was the Reader?
I would like to thank you for this ask it has been on my mind all day.
Reader is GNC.
Trigger warnings: slight depictions of violence (if I missed anything then please let me know)
Tumblr media
🔥Red Son🔥
Time moves by so slowly when you see Red Son launch himself at the towering Lion. His flames are bursting forth from both his head and hands. And then you see Azure Lion go to grab at Red Son and…
…You’ve always been aware of how Red Son feels about his head being touched. He’s not a fan, even the most tentative of touches leaves him flinching for a moment before he relaxes into your hand. Despite that though he’s still very bad about guarding his head. You know all of this. You know your impulsive beloved leads with his head. So when in that split second you see Azure Lion lift his hand ready to grab at Red Son you act without thinking. Because you know he doesn’t like his head being touched.
Azure Lion is taken aback for a moment when it’s not the traitor’s son…but you that he’s grabbed. This hadn’t been what he was expecting but he doesn’t waste time disposing of you. He lifts up one of the tablets and activates it.
“Very courageous of you. But also very stupid. I am sorry for this.”
You’re painfully aware of everything all at once. The painful grip on your head, an all too familiar scream begging Azure to stop, your existence being assaulted by whispers of all your past failures as the ink seeps it’s way into your entire being…and an intense heat at your back.
In a moment you feel yourself dropping to the ground. Azure Lion is holding his wrist as a dark red blazing fire surrounds you. But everything is getting fuzzy now. You can see angry red blisters on Azure’s wrist. Did Red Son do that? There’s a voice you can almost make out through the haze of ink. Red Son is reaching out to you desperate to pull you out of the ink but he’s just not fast enough. His hands goes right through where yours were as the ink finishes it’s job and is quickly sucked back into the tablet.
“No! NO stay with me (y/n)! You can’t leave me! I need you!”
He’s prepared to burn Azure to ashes when he’s pulled back by the rest of the gang. Red Son is angry. Did they know this was happening? Where have they been? Why couldn’t they have gotten there sooner?
He’s giving the rest of the team burns as he’s struggling against them demanding to be let go. Screaming profanities as he swears that he’ll make Azure Lion suffer for all he’s done. He almost outright attacks Tang when he teleports them all away.
Nezha doesn’t even get the chance to get a word in before Red Son is screaming at MK and the rest of the gang.
“SEND ME BACK. DO NONE OF YOU REALIZE HE HAS MY FAMILY? THAT HE HAS (Y/N)? I’M NOT LEAVING THEM. YOU! THE FREELOADING MONK! SEND ME BACK IMMEDIATELY!”
“It was our only option! We weren’t prepared to fight-“
“THE ONLY OPTION SHOULD’VE BEEN TO LET ME BURN HIM OUT OF EXISTENCE”
When MK presents Wukong’s tablet to the group it is of little comfort to Red Son and only serves to fuel his anger further. He grabs by MK by his sleeves and screams loud enough to hurt his eardrums.
“YOU HAD TIME TO GRAB THAT BROKEN THING BUT NOT (Y/N)’S?”
“There wasn’t time! Our best chance at getting (Y/N) and everyone else back lies with The Monkey King. He’s the only one who’s successfully stood up to the Jade Emper-“
“THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN TIME IF YOU HAD BEEN THERE EARLIER. WHERE WERE YOU? WHERE WERE ANY OF YOU? DID YOU NOT HEAR THE BATTLE? DID NONE OF YOU LOOK UP FOR EVEN A MOMENT?”
Everyone let’s him scream and rage. MK has no defense for what’s happened and he knows it. Nothing he could say would convince Red Son that a tactical retreat was the best option. So he lets him nearly burn holes into his sleeves as he gets it out of his system.
When his energy is spent Red Son falls to his knees as angry tears begin to stream out of his eyes. Once again his family is lost to him, and this time so are you. He doesn’t know why it is that he somehow continues to come out the only one in his family that gets to escape but he hates it.
And when he at last comes to his senses he gets up, dusts himself off and swears that this will be the last time anyone takes his family from him again.
He’ll get you back. Redson will stop at nothing to ensure you and his parents safety.
Tumblr media
🐵Macaque😈
(I actually struggled a bit with this one due to the timings of events, I hope this turned out ok!)
You and the gang had arrived ready to do what you could to stop the Camel Ridge trio, and when you saw Nezha lunge for Azure you knew it would end badly. You didn’t want anyone else to get hurt. So you yanked him back and haphazardly tossed him to the rest of the group, who did their best to help him. Unfortunately Azure had still been targeting him, and that didn’t stop just because his target had switched last second.
“I am surprised to see you here. I am sorry it has come to this.”
You feel the ink consume you in a few agonizing seconds as the others look on horrified, unable to get close to help you. You see them almost wanting to reach out to you, to do anything at all that would help, but your last thoughts before you disappear are of Macaque instead. Wondering how he would react to this.
The rest of the monkey kids already knew what would happen if they tried to help, they had already been through it once day. That didn’t stop it from hurting any less, but it was the middle of a battle and they couldn’t stop to think about that, they would get you back just as they themselves had been saved and it would be fine. They were sure everything would be fine just as it had been fine one hundred times before. As they prepared to fight back MK quickly burst on to the scene and after grabbing Wukong’s tablet, called for a tactical retreat. No one was happy about it, but MK knew best in these moments.
When they arrived at Wukong’s home and after Nezha yelled at him for abandoning the field, they heard a presence drop down from one of the trees. “Hey Kiddo! You made it back! See I knew you could do…it.” Macaque’s otherwise cheerful facade dropped as he looked over the group and noticed two things. Wukong was still stuck in the tablet…and you weren’t there. “Hey uh, where’s Y/N?” He had a feeling he already knew the answer as he looked to each of them, and none of them looked back at him. He didn’t want to be right, please gods don’t let him be right- “They…they got taken. They got taken trying to save me.” It was Nezha who spoke up. Clearly not thinking highly of himself in the moment as he looked down at the ground angrily.
He wasn’t staring at the ground long however, as Macaque immediately jumped him. Using his shadow powers to force him against a wall. “It should have been you. It should have been all of you before it was them- WHAT THE HELL WERE THE REST OF YOU DOING!?” He’s angry. He’s angry at everyone who went to the celestial realm and didn’t come back with his Y/N. But mostly he’s angry at himself for not being there. He should have been there. He could have protected you. But he wasn’t. He wasn’t there, and now you weren’t here. And it was all his fault.
As the others pried him off of Nezha and he in turn wrenched himself from their grasps, he felt MK’s hand on his shoulder, giving him a stern look. “We’re going to get them back. We’re going to get everyone back, and we’re going to take down Azure Lion.” He’s not sure he believes them. He knew what they could do, hell he fought with them as brothers once upon a time. But he slowly looks at MK and nods.
But he’s not going to let anything stop him from getting you back. Even if it kills him a second time he’s not going to stop until he gets you back.

resident short king invests in platforms. they give him extra inches and some woke points for being gnc, but they will also likely give him a fun trip to the ER.
(close-up of the little falling Tophers under the cut bc they’re so cute)
Tumblr media
when I was 14, I wore these huge platform heels to school for the first time and was doing so good all day, then rolled my ankle to a perfect 90° angle after the heel got caught in a subway grate on my way home LOL. I straight up looked like lil homie on the left, but somehow came out unscathed (save for the fear)

Hi..... Can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from JJK? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series (until now)? Thanks....
No problem. It gives me a great excuse to whip out this image of my top 9 jjk faves
Tumblr media
They're not in order here, but compared to other categories, I don't actually have such a hard time ranking characters.
Kenjaku
I've talked about them a bunch, most recently on the last ask about my favourite characters, so I'll just summarize what I love about them: mad scientist + family drama + trans + chill & genre-savvy + Japanese history + body snatcher
2. Yuuji
Also like him for how he's a pretty unusual shonen protagonist. He's not overpowered, he doesn't want to become the jujutsu king/kage/president and almost every shonen mc trope he does exhibit gets punished or beaten out of him. He nontheless doesn't lose his base compassion for people. That compassion is also what will drive him to kill if he has to, something for the few people he actually hates. He's selfless to the point of suicidal. His whole character arc(s) revolves around him finding a satisfying way to die and now being forced to also find a satisfying reason to live (with how jjk is going, I don't think he'll find that but he's not able to die either). His conflicts with the villains are deeply personal, he doesn't just challenge them on the basis of them breaking the law or being some nebulous depiction of a bad person. That's how it starts out, but he can't beat them on that basis alone. He was only able to really hurt Mahito and defeat him after he accepted their personal connection and similarities.
3. Tengen
Problematic conservative grandma. She's really the root of all of the problems in jujutsu society, she's the one who build up the entire basis of the series from world building to the antagonists. Without her Kenjaku wouldn't be who they are right now, they would likely not try to challenge the system and forcefully advance humanity in the way they do and might even be dead for hundreds of years. Gojo wouldn't exist without her either. Riko wouldn't either and she also wouldn't have died the way she did. Same for Yuki. Sukuna might largely be influenced by her as well. She's responsible for so much of what's happening in the series, but gets all too easily overlooked both in-universe and outside. Her whole backstory is so fascinating, her relationship to Kenjaku drives me crazy and I do find her stubborn, kinda grumpy personality quite charming. Also gnc as fuck.
4. Uraume
While in Sukuna's case I really care more about his backstory than him as a person and find his personality not that exciting, it's the opposite for Uraume. I do want that Heian flashback and also see where Uraume came from and how they met Sukuna, but what I really like about them is their personality. At first glance they appear so calm and collected, just a loyal servant without much autonomy, but they're actually so much more. There's so much passion in them, they are so easy to tick off and always ready for violence. Especially in combination with Kenjaku they are so entertaining. I need to see them cook more often. Preferably human. That brief glimpse we got when they prepared Sukuna's bath was so good. The way they pinned down and sliced up those curses without destroying them...I want to see them do the same with humans.
5. Angel
Heian era's craziest paladin. I just love how hypocritical and bloodthirsty she is. She has her sense of justice and right and wrong, she doesn't pretend like everyone has to agree with it, but she will still mercilessly kill everyone in her way or who she just doesn't like for one reason or another. If Kenjaku is a social butterfly, she's a social caterpillar. I miss her just blatently telling the protagonists that she doesn't care about their goals or innocent people dying. She must have been wonderful to witness in politics. I'm really curious how her relationship to the Abe clan looked liked. It's such a shame that all that got toned down, so Sukuna didn't get one-shotted and Gojo could be freed. The volume 24 extra show though that Gege does care about her or at least her technique, giving me some hope that she will actually get something to do again soon. Once we get her backstory, she could easily rank above Uraume. Btw, I want more panels where Angel is just a mouth. No Hana, just that mouth with a monotone background and overly detailed teeth. It looks so fantastically creepy.
Favourite Moments
1. Kenjaku talking to Kogane
Tumblr media
It's just such a good moment that does a lot for Kenjaku's characterization, their goals and relationship to Tengen (and arguably also Yuuji). Still feeling pretty ambivalent about ch222, but this was undeniably a highlight. It has had a tight grip on my mind ever since. I could write whole essays about it, starting with the scenary of it all. Kenjaku sitting alone, the only one in focus and the only one in the light, while being in front of a game console with two controllers that remain untouched and without a game running while talking to someone/something that/who can't hear them or can't understand them. Kogane is basically just a computer. It can't give insightful answers or challenge Kenjaku's beliefs, while Tengen has also lost all autonomy and most of her personality I assume. She also can't talk back, probably can't hear them and isn't even there, but Kenjaku still directs their musings at her, knowing she won't/can't answer, but still asking for her input, challenging her and leaving space for what would be her own words. They hate her, but also want her to do better and this scene really shows that while Kenjaku's plans my succeed, they probably won't get what they really want.
2. Yuuji chasing Mahito
Tumblr media
Pretty easy pick. I'm really looking forward to seeing this animated soon. It's not just the beautiful imagery or how their roles have now reversed, but also what leads up to it. Yuuji accepts who he is, how he is not so different from Mahito. He discards any pretence of high and mighty reasons for why Mahito should die and embraces his hate. He's not pretending to be any better than Mahito, no "I'm not gonna kill you because I'm not like you", he says with absolute senserity that he will kill Mahito as many times as it takes. He's gonna hunt him down just like Mahito did. It's also the start of Yuuji giving into the role jujutsu society has put him in and starts thinking of himself as a cog, a mere object that serves others and blindly obeys its function (killing curses). I think getting Sukuna out of his body was the start to him evolving past that thinking, but this was a very necessary step. He needs to be broken down before being build back up. It was a great end for Mahito as a character as well.
3. Kenjaku & Tengen get Sukuna's body
Tumblr media
This whole scene is so interesting. Like in the first moment it's basically just Kenjaku talking to their hand puppets again, but this time there's a bit more outside input. Ngl, the mere fact that Kenjaku and Tengen are together, talking to each other and working with each other excites me already. There's not much of Tengen's consciousness left and she can't actually refuse anything Kenjaku does, but their interactions were still very fascinating. What's also interesting is how they (both of them) treat Sukuna's corpse. They stroll up to it so casually, as if they have done it in the past. Kenjaku asks Tengen if they can take it and she says yes, but neither of them consider Sukuna and his wishes in all this. Kenjaku even jokes that it's their souvenir for him. It makes me so curious about how they are connected to him and what kind of relationship the three used to have. It gets even better now that we know that Tengen was the one who prepared his corpse (without his knowledge) and Kenjaku was the one who turned Sukuna into a cursed object. These two have clearly passed around Sukuna's corpse between them before. "Do you mind if I take his fingers?" "No, go ahead, I don't need them" This scene gets better and better as the story progresses.
4. MCs meeting Tengen
Tumblr media
Speaking of scenes that get better with time, ch145 and 146 have been one of my favourites for a long time. They have to be on this list for how many times I've reread them alone. The more information and backstory we get, the more interesting this whole info dump becomes. There are always little phrases and moments that become a lot more meaning full on a reread. We also got so many hints. Tengen's connection to the Star Plasma Vessels and Six Eyes, Yuki being able to hear the other SPVs, Tengen and Kenjaku's relationship (many hcs were spawned by Tengen casually calling Kenjaku a child and I'm happy to see that many of them are turning out to be true), the first hints at Kenjaku's plan, even though a lot of depth was missing of course and Tengen underestimates some of their reasoning and end goals, and Tengen's utter failure to understand Kenjaku as a person (they aren't even that shy to talk about their reasons, especially to her! grandma please...).
5. Noritoshi preparing to die/visiting his mother
Tumblr media
It's this scene of Noritoshi finding his mother again plus the context of her side of the story at the end of the Sakurajima colony and Maki's advice re matricide that really moves me. Probably Noritoshi's best scene so far. I really hope the reason he isn't with the others is because he went back to his mother to finally talk to her openly. I swear, these two are so horrible at communicating. It's so heartbreaking to see Noritoshi lose all will to live and being ready to die in battle to do at least something useful with his life. He dedicated everything to changing the Kamo from within for his mother, only to get kicked out of the clan and find out that his mother has moved on. Everything he has done so far becomes meaningless. However, it is what comes afterwards that makes it even more clear how toxic his mindset was. Noritoshi thinks poetic words about how he's gonna die for his friends, only to be interrupted by Daido and Miyo. It shows that this way of thinking is entirely unnecessary and something he has to break out of. It's what sets him on the right path to reunite with his mother. Kenjaku forced him out of the clan and gave him no way to return. His mother showed him that there is a way to live a happy life despite the abuse both of them suffered from the Kamo clan, it is possible to move on. Daido & Miyo disrupted his suicidal thoughts and took over the fight for him aka he has to rely on others and accept their "help" without giving anythign in return. Maki taught him that there might be a way to reconnect with his mother and that he should ask all the questions he has for her regarding his purpose and name openly. I really didn't care much for Noritoshi before, but this whole arc elevated him so much for me.

Round 1B: The Lion King 1 1/2 (2004) vs. Mulan (1998)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda:
The Lion King 1 1/2:
“This movie is about Timon and Pumbaa raising a child together”
“Just 2 dudes raising their son and dealing with commitment issues. The movie heavily leans into the bit that Timon and Pumba are like a couple. Timon is voiced by gay icon Nathan Lane. This movie was my childhood.”
Other propaganda for the original movie with the same idea:
“Simba was literally raised by a gay couple (Timon and Pumba…Timon even literally wears drag in the movie)”
“Timon and Puumba are a queer couple that raised simba into adulthood. Scar is a mean gay. Nuff said”
“Timone and Pumbaa are Simba's gay adoptive dads.”
Mulan:
“Trans awakening for so many of us”
“Well Mulan gives off very non-binary vibes”
“Literally listen to the music also Li Shang”
“just what your intro post said - Milan being trans (or gnc) coded and Li Shang being bi coded. like come on do i even need to explain? I’ll just add that I was listening to “Reflection” on repeat cuz the lines “Who is that girl I see staring straight back at me?…When will my reflection show who I am inside?” we’re stuck in my head. So with that song on loop I decided to finally chop my hair short in true Milan fashion (ok that’s a lie, I didn’t do it myself, but the PRINCIPLE) so not only is Milan trans/gnc coded but I can’t be the only one the movie inspired to finally go for The Haircut or something else related. sry that’s very rambly”
“gnc. bisexual. what more could u want.”
“Both trans and gay coded. Shang was so into Ping that he couldn’t stand to execute him for his “crime”. Also includes drag saving the day!”
“This is less a competition for the queerest movie and more a competition for the second queerest movie. Just *look* at every aspect of Mulan and tell me it’s even a contest.”
“Not only is mulan super trans coded but Shang is definitly bi”
“I know it's the obvious pick, but Mulan is so gender and Shang is so bi. 💯💯💯”
“Mulan is very trans coded. Li Shang is totally bi. Dude absolutely had a thing for “Ping” before learning he was actually a woman (Mulan). Also watching that movie as a young egg made me feel less alone about the fact that I didn’t fit into the “girl” role everyone around me pushed me into. Mulan was kind of my hero and sometimes listening to Reflection makes me tear up a little bit because it’s such a mood but also such a TRANS mood. It’s probably my favorite Disney movie song. “Why is my reflection someone I don’t know” made me THINK as a kid. Disney may be evil but they did the world a great service with Mulan.”
“It is obvious why”
“If movies could turn you trans this one did it to me”
“I mean I assume this one is going to be there, but what if we all think “oh everyone is going to put mulan so I won’t” and then nobody does?”
“it’s mulan”
“Gender”
“Mulan is so trans, however you want to read her (as a trans man, genderqueer, genderfluid, etc.) and Shang is hella bi. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk”
“This movie is SOOOOO trans coded. Captain Li is a bisexual icon. As an Asian queer person I have sat and cried to Reflection by Lea Salonga while staring in a mirror too many times to count. Can I be my authentic self without making my parents who I love hate me? It's too good.”
“My little asian tboy awakening”
“Can be read as transmasc- he finds his true purpose/calling in life by presenting as male- or as transfem- she goes against everyone’s expectations for her by revealing her true self as a woman. A very trans movie. Also just a very good movie in general.”

why is no one talking about how peter is gender goals????? him,,,, him fantasizing abt olive (mmfbfjfdjjfmghmhmhhh oliiveeeee<33333) its so exactly me I'm screaming
except I'm transmasc and constantly worried that me fantasizing about my... well, my own "olive" or wrong or something, so I guess we suppress it for different reasons :)<3 loving the perfect gender rep
peter being gender goals is the topic of 90% of all conversations i partake in - which is WONDERFUL because for the longest time, wade was the gender champion, and i think he's a little mad that peter's dethroning him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i don't think you have to be transmasc to have complicated feelings about femininity - but i do write a lot of my weird transmasc feelings into peter parker.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i think we've all got to play around just a little bit - it's all fine to have a way that you want the world to see you, but - but it can't be everything. as soon as you start feeling shame over things that could be making you happy - that's when it starts doing more harm than good, i think.
i think peter's always going to be he/him and fervently identify as a man (a spider-man) - but he's not going to let it dictate what he wears and what he enjoys. gnc king...

I was tagged, kindly, by @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels, and then I lost track of this (sorry.)
Rules: List ten books that have stayed with you in some way, don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard - they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.
Gaudy Night, Dorothy L. Sayers (obviously. Formative text of all time. Truth at all hazards, education, gender, sexuality, music, literary allusions.)
Beauty, Robin McKinley (it was very important to 8-year-old me to have this bookish, snappish, gnc protagonist. Also important to 18-year-old me.)
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (...look, I grew up to become a medievalist. And I still love the novel's sense of wonder, and possibility, and the many ways it values courage.)
The Once and Future King, T.H. White (...look, I grew up to become a medievalist. I bought this with my own money at age 12 and became haunted by it.)
The End of the Affair, Graham Greene (I love Maurice, the disabled protagonist who hates God; I love Sarah, who prays for a miracle to the God she hasn't believed in since she was seven; I love the prose, and the stained glass in the door, and the taste of peaches on Sarah's skin and in Maurice's mouth, and the rain on the heath, and...)
Les Trois Mousquetaires, Alexandre Dumas (also a formative text of all time tbh. I'm hardwired to love fictional characters with great one-liners and no sense of self-preservation and I blame the boys.)
Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë (my sister and I were on the phone recently, and she said "I felt it was the right decision to make because I am not a bird or whatever that line is," and I knew exactly what she meant. JANE. Love that mystical Anglican weirdo. Support her and her weird husband and their dog.)
The English Patient, Michael Ondaatje (HNG. The Bedouin healer who reminds Almásy of St. Michael the psychopomp in the window of an English church which he remembers because it was his wife's childhood church... except of course it was K's and he has never been there to see the light slanting through the angel's wings... just end me. And there are multiple passages like that!)
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (obviously. All is well when I am with my Baker Street uncles and it is 1895.)
Embers, Sándor Márai (I feel I've been taking too long over this, and also this book has stayed with me as one that opened my eyes to possibilities of narrative and relationship ethics and tangled desire in ways that fiction hadn't previously done. Also the atmosphere.)
Tagging in a no-pressure sort of way: @lettersfromthelighthouse, @bluestockingcouture, @tollers-and-jack, @tinydooms, @bookworm-of-camelot, @amarguerite, @shredsandpatches, @the-moon-loves-the-sea, @mercurygray, @the-forest-library

yeah fuck it. the way each saiki k character i care about is queer (i don't think any of them are cishet. not sorry)
saiki kusuo himself: trans (generally masc leaning, though gender is putty able to be molded to whatever), and im tugged between him just generally being queer (undefined) and ace, and aroace. i dont really wanna decide on one, i think both are good :)
nendou riki: just queer !
kaidou shun: transmasc and gay :3c
kuboyasu aren: bi! thats all
hairo kineshi: also just queer!
teruhashi kokomi: im partial to my transmasc hc for her honestly, but i also really love lesbian teruhashi! either way i think shes a woman lover at heart
yumehara chiyo: utter bi disaster.
mera chisato: aroace :3c
toritsuka reita: bi for sure! i really enjoy transfem or just generally gnc tori, but typically in my brain i do tend to default to him being cis. i loooove playing around with the other ideas though :)
aiura mikoto: pan!! i think she loves drag too, for sure an awesome drag king in her spare time
akechi touma: tbh im typically torn between trans and cis for him, but my biases tend to lead me towards trans akechi :) maybe nonbinary, idk, hes just kinda trans to me regardless. either way, hes demi !
saiko metori: just gay. nothing more to it
saiki kuusuke: greyro/ace gay! i really enjoy seeing transfem kuu but thats not my default for him typically

Given that Hunter was introduced to anime in the Human Realm (canon), what do you think some of his favourites would be? Any he wouldn't like as much?
Astro Boy
Voltron Defender of the Universe (the 80s one. He eats it up. Its his cocomelon)
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
Gus also enjoys Sci-fi type stuff so this is what they watch together <333
Sailor Moon/Cardcaptor Sakura/Whatever other cute wholesome power of friendship magical girl animes that you can think of. I just believe he loves Magical Girls. That is a headcanon that is attached to my brain like a leech.
Pokemon. He loves cute little creechurs, they're silly and they remind him of palismen <33
I imagine that he really enjoys sports anime. Especially the ones with intense homoerotic friendships. He loves Haikyu and Free, god bless. If you dare to open your mouth during Yuri on Ice, he will kill you.
As a guy who is a bit awkward, passionate about his interests, a little bit on the gnc side, and into making clothes, I think he'd like Princess Jellyfish.
I think when it comes to anime he WOULDN'T like, I think maybe....slice of life shojo high school stuff. Ones that are deeply rooted in experiences that Hunter cannot connect to. Not that he hates that stuff. He just struggles to relate. Also, as introspective, sensitive and emotionally mature as I imagine Hunter to be, I also think that his attention span cannot be held by a show that focuses on feelings/romance alone. Bro is like "I want SPACESHIPS!! I want SPORT!!! I want POKEMON!!!" There's gotta be some exciting angle to keep him entertained.
Something I'm a little unsure of is what Hunter's relationship is with gore/horror/edgy type stuff. Because we know he was a fan of Ruler's Reach, which was written by an edgelord 8 year old and was packed with gratuitous violence. Considering he was not only a teenage boy (who tend to gravitate towards depictions violence because of societal influence) but a child soldier who was unnervingly desensitized to brutality, it does make a lot of sense. Ruler's Reach also seemed to be something of a masculine power fantasy written by one boy who felt small and powerless in his own life, which connected with a boy who felt similarly. King wanted to be feared, Hunter wanted to be respected.
However, this was during the time that Hunter was trapped in a very bleak situation, one that he didn't even fully understand was bleak. And he coped by hyperfixating on a book that normalized the cruelty.
But what I wonder is, would he still feel the same way about that book now, after everything? He's been woken up to how horrific his life was until this point. He's aware of the atrocities and he's deeply uncomfortable with all of it. Things are drastically different now. Hunter is drastically different.
Personally, I think Ruler's Reach was something that comforted him when he needed it. But as he changes as a person, its just not his taste anymore.
Hunter can certainly stomach gore and violence. He's seen more disturbing sights than anything an anime can show him. But I don't think he actively seeks it out. I imagine that he prefers stuff that's lighthearted. Not that he doesn't enjoy tension/excitement/high stakes. Just not the kind of stuff that will make him extremely upset.
Like Fullmetal Alchemist for example. Absolutely amazing anime, but not something Hunter would enjoy sitting through. It's good to have fiction that makes you feel something deep in your core, the way FMA does to people. But Hunter has experienced enough real life trauma and existential horror for a lifetime. He's felt enough!!! He doesn't need to see that weird fucking dog!!!!! Leave him alone!!!!!
So ya in summary, I think he likes fun, semi-lighthearted stuff. But he doesn't really wanna watch anything that's gonna make him sit in the shower for over an hour and rethink everything. He is already mentally exhausted. He once learned made of a dead guy's bones, that's enough for him.

ranpoe headcanons part two!!
a/n: maybe i should become a writer...i have too much fun with these.
•poe is weak as shit. my man has noodle arms. ranpo on the other hand, pretends he's weak until he scoops up poe and walks around with him like a ragdoll
•poe isn't a much of a fan of sweets, but loves to make them for ranpo. that usually ends in poe being force fed bites of cake tho <3
•ranpo always has casual wear on around the house. he is the KING of stealing hoodies. poe doesn't wear his hoodies too much though. he just wears his fancy-ass goth clothes 24/7
•ranpo has called poe his "big titty goth gf" at least once, despite poe being amab as all hell (i'm not saying cis male because cmon, this man is the most gnc mf alive)
•"oh, they would have cafe dates! oh, they would have-" NO. MOVIE DATES. (they would still have so many kinds of dates tho) ranpo making popcorn while ranpo scrolls through the entirety of netflix. its been 30 minutes and they still haven't picked a movie because of ranpo's indecisive ass. the popcorn is half gone from a mix of ranpo eating it all and poe tossing bits to karl.
•they ended up deciding on howl's moving castle
•"ranpo, dear, didn't we watch this last week?" "i'll let karl sit in your lap this time." "...deal."
•ranpo falls asleep on poe's lap halfway through while poe's watching the movie like it's the first time he's seen it
-a/n: lemme know if you want a fic of the last scenario teehee

Hello may i ask why you are against the transfem vil hc but isn't agaisnt the genderfluid & bigender one? /genq
ok this will be a bit long cuz like even though ive answered tis before, i don't think i have given an answer that expressed myself as good as this one
it's because i understand the bigender / genderfluid hcs, in all honesty they make sense, i could def see vil as not being cis, plus, they r only be adding rep to ppl. there's no problem w the genderfluid or bigender hc because it's easy to see someone who is agaisnt gender roles to be trans and it's easy to see vil as someone who identifies with more than one gender
however, the transfem hc is bad because it goes AGAINST vil's character.
had vil not been a character that explicitly says he despises gender roles and even gets angry at the mention of dance moves being "too feminine" for a man to make by epel, there wouldn't be any problem w it, because it makes sense to see a character that presents in a feminine way as a trans woman just as much as it does to see them as just a cis dude who likes to dress feminine. but the whole point with vil's character is that he dislikes and refuses to follow gender roles, hence why he wears makeup, uses dresses, heels and acts in a way many consider feminine, because he wants to fight back the mindset that men need to be masculine and women need to be feminine. the transfem vil hc goes against that because it takes vil, a character that is constantly mentioned to be a man that fights the way society views men, and says "he's actually a woman" all because of the way he acts. do you get it? it's pushing gender roles in the one character in twst that explicitly hates it, it's literally doing what he has been fighting through his career. in the jp game vil calls himself by a gender neutral term, one that is commonly used by women, because he doesn't believe there is such a thing that is "exclusively for women" in the eng, the way they translated was by making him call himself a queen, that is a term made for women but that now days you see being used as a gender neutral term, it doesn't make sense to use those two things as "transfem coding" because literally a quick research on vil's character will show you that he used such terms BECAUSE he is a man and uses them as an attack to the gender roles. if vil WERE to be a trans woman, she would act masculine instead, call herself a king and use terms like handsome, because by following the logic, despite the way he identifies and was born as, he'd still hate gender roles and would fight them, especially because people think that transfem/transwomen HAVE to be feminine, and the ones that aren't get invalidated and hated on a lot of times by their OWN COMMUNITY. the transfem vil hc just simply doesn't make any sense at all and it was made to push gender roles onto a character that was made to break them, furthermore ppl that hc this r like normally super fucking annoying and keep pushing it as canon as if they played through all of vil's stories with their eyes closed and didn't actually take anything he said in.
the hc is problematic to both transmasc and transfem people, especially to those who are gnc, who barely get any rep and ate constantly attacked, ppl don't seem to understand this but this type of hc it follows the made up rules bigots made for genders= men have to masculine otherwise they're not real men, women have to be feminine otherwise they're not real women
when you point out such things ppl will bring up literally anything they can and even accuse you of being transphobic whole supporting a transphobic hc themselves. people don't seem to understand the importance of gender non conforming characters but as someone that is a trans man that doesn't care about how ppl think a trans man should act or look, ive gotten invalidated and harassed because of it, sometimes even by people that are also from the trans community and it hurts, you think you've found your place, a community that will accept you, and then simply because you refuse to follow made up rules, suddenly you're not welcome there anymore, and i know im not the only one who shares such a sentiment because ive seen multiple other ppl abt how hcs like this make them dysphoric (just like me) because they relate to the character and find them to be a safe space and to be comforting because they see themselves in them, so having them be pushes into the rules of society reminds them of what happens to them and it hurts them.
to finish this off; transfem vil hc makes me genuinely dysphoric and brings me bad memories + ive literally been attacked and called the T SLUR by one of the ppl that hc that so i def don't want any ties to that community. meanwhile the genderfluid/bigender/etc hc don't interfere with his character at all and it actually make sense for his character

Hot Take Bunny Headcanons and Responses to Common Bunny Arguments that Really Aren’t Even Hot Takes Now That I’m Reading Over Them But Whatever Lol.
I’m gonna start off with some good ol’ headcanons.
Butters is a short king and Kenny is a tall king. That’s just how it is.
I headcanon that although Butters is fairly secure in his identity as an AMAB, he still finds comfort in, and even encourages, feminine pet names. Kenny calls him “princess,” “wife,” and very jokingly, “babygirl”
Butters smokes. Kenny is a stoner. Argue with ya mama. Also Kenny gets pissed sometimes because Leo gets lipgloss on his blunts and it just throws off his mojo. But he can’t stay mad at him for long <3
Bunny is a pretty couple. I don’t care they just are. Kenny has a very pretty face, very charming and very handsome. And Butters. Butters is fucking gorgeous. All of his bullies in elementary school got ugly. Him, though? He got his glow up.
I am a huge fan of flirtatious Butters. LIKE. HUGE FAN.
Bunny is ADHD x ADHD couple I’m correct I’m correct I’m correct.
I actually really like the idea of rebellious reckless Kenny. Like, that’s my shit right there. Because if he is, and he gets hurt, that gives Butters an excuse to doctor him up and be all fluffy with him.
Vic Chaos is Dr. Mccormick’s sugar mama-
Fuck y’all “Buttercup” is an adorable nickname. Nicknames in general are just adorable.
All of my other “hot-take” headcanons are inappropriate. So I’m not gonna talk about them-
What I wanna do now is take a minute (or twenty) to talk about common discourse-starters in the Bunny fandom.
But first, I wanna reiterate one more time. When I say butters is gnc, he is a gnc CREATUREEEEE. He is hyper-femme (me fr). He has meltdowns about his trauma, then covers his tears with makeup (me fr), he expresses his feelings through his sewing machine (kinda sorta me fr), has the best outfits in school (me fr), and will key your car :)
But don’t assume that I also believe he’s a meak, powerless, washed up little baby just because I headcanon that he’s gnc (If you automatically associate femininity with any of these traits, I’m gonna give you the nastiest side eye.) Butters, from what I can understand, is a slick little guy. He’s shady, he’s a gossiper, he’s prone to snapping at people, and I’m happy (<- lying) to admit that he has this weird jealousy relationship thing going on with women. Personality ≠ Hair and Makeup and feminine outfits. Those are two totally seperate things.
Protective Kenny
In terms of Bunny, people say that Kenny would not be Butters’ protector/save his little meow meow from the evil Stephen-Wephen. I’d like to argue that both of these aren’t outlandish ideas. They just need to be done right in order to seem legit.
Protective Kenny is such a real and accurate headcanon because…that’s who he is! That’s what he does! He protects his little sister from their questionable foster home and strange new school, he protects his friends from Cthulu’s clutches by stating that he’ll die for good if it means that his friends would be safe, he voluntarily goes to hell to protect the fucking world!
Question, if this boy is willing to sacrifice so much to make sure nothing harms who/what he loves, why is it so jaw-dropping to say that he would do so for his boyfriend?
I do get that this headcanon can be trivializing because, yeah, it does kinda bolster the whole “meak little overly-dependent meow meow” pretense onto Butters. Yes, Butters most likely will stand up to his parents one day all by himself, but what happens when Stephen inevitably responds negatively? I feel like Butters would double down after seeing Stephen’s reaction to being yelled at. Because snapping and delivering one loud, detailed, emotional monologue triggered by years of hurt, anger, and mental disintegration isn’t going to magically undo the complience, discipline, and obedience Stephen has drilled into his head.
Butters is going to back down and go back to obeying his father because it’s instinctual. And because of that, he needs someone to step in and encourage him to not fall into this headspace. He needs someone to let him know that what he feels isn’t disobedience, it’s his conscience recognizing that this is bullshit. And if that backfires, then yeah, Kenny’s gonna take matters into his own hands.
Now, the dramatic dinner table scene that ultimately leads to a shootout between Mr Stotch and Kenny while Butters watches on in fear while pissing his pants, and then Kenny shooting Mr and Mrs Stotch dead and running away with Butters to California (or vice versa) is kind of a stretch. But to defend the people who may see it as one big showdown: it’s South Park! You think these characters are going to sit over cups of tea and have a civil conversation? No! Sure, you’re allowed to dislike that outcome and dislike the fact that people write it in fanfics, but you can’t really blame authors for writing it this way because the source material is batshit insane. Think about it this way, if Matt and Trey were to write a scene where Butters stands up to his father and Kenny is there to back him up, do you think they would either:
A) Write it like this: Butters blows up at his dad, his dad retaliates, they eventually settle down and have a reasonable conversation, and then everything is fixed…
B) Write it like this: Butters blows up at his dad, his dad retaliates, Kenny steps in, Mr Stotch attacks him, they get into a gunfight with lasers and condoms rain down from the sky and Mrs Stotch flashes her tits and there’s totally unsubtle political commentary in the form of a satirical new character nobody cares about and Holy Shit, is that Joe Biden on a bicycle?!?!
Idk. I’m neither Matt nor Trey. So anyway, Kenny is a protective boyfriend.
Stephen-Hates-Kenny
I honestly don’t think Stephen would hate Kenny as much as Bunny fans think he would. Although he’s a crude kid and one that’s mysterious and questionable when it comes to making money, it’s not like he’d be outright vitriolic towards him at first sight.
What I think does happen is that Stephen starts to dislike Kenny because he can tell that Kenny has an obvious influence over his son. If his son doesn’t meet the standards that he aggressively sets for him, and he knows that an outside force is disturbing that process, then yeah. I would assume that Stephen wouldn’t like whoever that “outside force” is because that person is taking control away from him. Not because he’s poor, or a manwhore, or even because Stephen and Stuart may or may not dislike each other. It’s simply because he’s no longer allowed to manipulate and warp his son into what he believes should be the standard, because Butters is starting to think for his own and not living by the ideals and harsh life lessons his father is instilling in him.
Homophobic Stephen Stotch
Okay, this one has takes that I both agree and disagree with. Some Bunny fans think that Stephen would be totally homophobic and unsupportive of his relationship, others believe that he wouldn’t care much in that regard and even support him. Both sides just seem fundamentally weird? To me? I don’t think that he’s homophobic, per se, but I definitely don’t think he’d support it full out.
The main evidence people use in this debate to prove that Stephen isn’t homophobic is the fact that Stephen Stotch…is literally gay himself. He has a history of going to gay bathouses and watching explicit gay films. So yeah, if this is a thing, then how would he be homophobic? Easy answer. Stephen doesn’t seem all too proud of himself for his behavior. In the same episode, he expresses to his wife that he doesn’t want to be this way. So yeah, he’s fruity, but in a “Catholic gay man is ashamed of his wicked ways and wants to undo his sins before God” way, or whatever the hell.
But that isn’t it, there’s another piece of evidence that argues that he is homophobic, and that’s the infamous “Butters Bisexual” episode. When Butters is almost tricked into sexually gratifying Cartman, his father walks in. Petrified, he sends him away to a gay conversion camp. Pretty harsh stuff, and pretty telling of where he stands in terms of homosexuality, specifically when it pertains to his son. At the end of the episode, though, he…accepts? His son for being bi-curious. And then the bi-curiosity is no longer explored nor mentioned or alluded to for the duration of the show up to season 26.
I feel like another vital piece of evidence that happens to be forgotten when having this conversation is how Stephen responds to Butters getting into a relationship period. He doesn’t seem apalled by his son getting a girlfriend at all, leaving us with the conclusion that Stephen isn’t against the prospect of his son finding a partner. But it still leaves a few questions unanswered, the main one being If Stephen is okay with a straight relationship, what would his reaction to a gay relationship be?
In my opinion, I really think it’s all a matter of perception and interpretation. The problem in this discourse isn’t exactly the idea of Stephen being homophobic or supportive. (either interpretation is backed up by canon, so it’s a matter of choice really) The main issue that people take in this aspect of Bunny is the extremity of either interpretation. Rampant Homophobe Stephen Stotch kicking his son out and murdering his son’s promicuous boyfriend v.s Accepting Healing Understanding Stephen Stotch who loves his son and embraces his son and his boyfriend with loving, caring arms. Neither of these are accurate responses to the supposed scenario of Kenny and Butters dating to me.
Raging Homophobe? No.
Accepting Ally Parent? Not exactly.
Closeted Gay Man who renounces his own homosexuality as well as his son’s? Yeah, that’s probably it. But IMO a combination of both sides of the discourse can be accurate and interesting if explored with nuance and an extra dose of consideration. I’m down with either.
Womanizer/Cheater Kenny
Uh. Idk. I do think it’s a little strange that people translate “10 Year Old Boy is exposed to sexual content and infatuated with it” to “He will grow up and get around with many girls (and maybe many boys).” Ultimately, though, it isn’t something I have extreme hatred towards, moreso something that I just. Scratch my head at. And don’t really have any need to talk about. Then again, it’s not a headcanon that has no evidence to back it up. Kenny does pursue sexual encounters even at a young age. He spent what I’m assuming to be multitudes of money to buy a concert ticket and condoms, and then he sat down and watched over an hour of said concert, solely to get a BJ from Tammy Warner. So, yeah, maybe he is seeking out stuff he shouldn’t be seeking. Plus, when you take puberty and hormones into consideration, Kenny might find himself persuing a few sexual encounters as a teenager.
One scenario that I see in Bunny fics a lot that really doesn’t make sense to me is Kenny selling himself for money. Like, yeah, okay, that headcanon is also backed up by canon. He was offered $20 (I think?) to give a popular radio host a BJ. But idk? I feel like that’s something the fandom should talk about more.
Cheating Kenny just pisses me off. Like, what? The most loyal character on this show would not cheat on any of his partners, and he sure as hell wouldn’t cheat on Butters. And you can play the “it’s for angst purposes!” card all you want, but out of all of the angsty shit both of these characters go through, you wanna take the easy way out? Yeah, no. We’re not even gonna go there.
Going Native
“Going Native had no particular moments that would ever allude to Kenny and Butters becoming a thing!”
Yeah. Exactly. That’s kinda the point of crackships. You don’t need any pivitol moment to justify the ship, you just need two characters, an Ao3 account, and a broad imagination. Besides, Going Native develops Kenny and Butters’ friendship. And where there’s friendship, there’s also potential for a romantic relationship!
Angst vs Fluff
I’m sorry, but if you base a ship’s validity/quality on the angst-to-fluff ratio, I just think that’s rather silly. People often make the claim that Bunny is a boring ship because it’s too fluffy and every time I see that take I just have to internally face palm. Isn’t that…good? Isn’t fluff a good thing?
I think the reason people don’t like overly-fluffy ships is because fluffy content in general mostly consists of nothing but cuddling, dates, wedding, domestic endeavors, and overall cuteness. Nothing about fluff makes you think, and that’s the point.
What drives them away from all of that is the obvious lack of sadness. It’s showing only one side of the story. In some cases, people wanna see a breakup, trauma, another breakup, an impromptu suspected cheating arc, character development, some more of that good old trauma, and then you can get to the cuddling. Kind of like a reward for using your brain and analyzing the characters first before portraying the romantic and silly stuff. But if you specifically enjoy the cuteness of the cuddling, then you’re neglecting to mention the characters’ dramatic backstories and placing a magnifying lense on only their good, loving qualities. Which isn’t inherently bad?
Like, yeah, I like angst too. Sometimes, I need to see my babies hurt so that I can see how they cohesively decide to move forward as a couple. Cool, three-dimensionality. But what if I just want to see Kenny and Butters rub their noses together like cute baby cows in love? What if I wanna see them awkwardly fumble and cutely make mistakes in an effort to make their first date the most perfect evening of their lives? Shit, what if I just wanna read about them having a pillow fight and playing footsies under the covers? Wanting either of these things is not a bad thing to want.
Now it’s very plausible that I’m just running my mouth here and people simply want to read about character depth in fanfics. That’s fine! We all have our preferences! But when you start disliking a ship simply because the popular consensus among the ship’s fanbase is that it’s fluffy, then I just think that’s a little silly.
In my opinion, yes! Bunny is a very fluffy ship! However, with both of these characters having a history of trauma and abuse on them, chances are you’re not going to get fluff 100% of the time. There will be fights, there will be hardships. Hell, if people are bold enough to portray such a thing in fanfic, and if it’s done in a way that is tasteful and in no way romanticized, then there may even be some abuse or manipulation thrown in there as well. It’s not a crazy concept, the cycle of abuse is a real-life thing that real-life couples struggle with.
Whether or not these struggles are portrayed is up to the author of the work. But if you don’t see any of that in Bunny fanfics, then you are capable of being the author that takes that risk and writes about it in your own fanwork!
ok thats all i can think of im gonna go drink some apple juice now
