Grief is love’s souvenir. It’s our proof that we once loved. Grief is the receipt we wave in the air that says to the world: Look! Love was once mine. I love well. Here is my proof I paid the price.
What a DAY! Guests on We Can Do Hard Things AND out with a new RE CAP show . . .
Listening to them back to back you get some resonances, talking about their relationship (!) and their college experiences. The WCDHT conversation really highlights why they have been so private for so long - they actually like each other, and probably had a feeling of dread and terror the first time they heard "Preath" 😁
Very sweet and informative. Listen to both wherever you get your podcasts. Catch the video if you are a member at Re-Inc. Happy times for Preath stans.
You can hide from the sun, but it won't take you personally. It´ll never, ever punish you for hiding. You can stay in the dark for years or decades, and when you finally step outside, it´ll be there.
I am a human being, meant to be in perpetual becoming. If I am living bravely, my entire life will become a million deaths and rebirths. My goal is not to remain the same but to live in such a way that each day, year, moment, relationship, conversation, and crisis is the material I use to become a truer, more beautiful version of myself. The goal is to surrender, constantly, who I just was in order to become who this next moment calls me to be. I will not hold on to a single existing idea, opinion, identity, story, or relationship that keeps me from emerging new. I cannot hold too tightly to any riverbank. I must let go of the shore in order to travel deeper and see farther. Again and again and then again. Until the final death and rebirth. Right up until then.
We Can Do Hard Things | 271. Christen Press & Tobin Heath Protect What Matters Most
Three soccer legends and Glennon go on an epic double date! Our beloved Pod Squader, Christen Press, is back with Tobin Heath to share their revolutionary reimagining of what life and love look like when you protect the sacred – and the resistance in doing things quietly and privately, especially within the queer community.
How to be free and independent inside a relationship – and Tobin’s seven-year contract idea;
Christen and Tobin describe each other as soccer players and as people outside of sport – and how they handle conflict; and
Why they say, “Don’t look at us, look at our work” – and their current mission to build a sports media house for women.
Listen to this episode from We Can Do Hard Things with Glennon Doyle on Spotify.
1. The moment Abby – as Christen’s USWNT roommate – walked into their hotel room and knew Christen was very different than any soccer player she’d ever known.
2. The boundary that helps Christen love her people while protecting herself.
3. Christen’s take on death and how to keep the people we’ve lost alive in our lives.
4. How to show our people (including our little athletes) that we love them for who they are, not what they achieve.
5. The day Christen knew she was ready to fight for – and win – pay equity for the US Women’s National Team.
About Christen: Christen Press is a two-time World Cup Champion and Olympian, as well as a leading forward at Los Angeles Angel City FC. An entrepreneur and advocate for inclusivity, Christen, along with US Women’s National teammates – Megan Rapinoe, Tobin Heath, and Meghan Klingenberg – launched their company re—inc, a purpose-driven, global lifestyle brand. Christen was one of the key players leading the charge for the “Equal Play, Equal Pay” campaign to highlight the pay discrepancy between the women’s and men’s national teams, which led to the new CBA agreement – and to her role as Player Representative for the US Women's National Team Players Association.
