Dubourg, the wife of the painter Henri Fantin-Latour, specialized in portraits and floral or fruit still lifes. In this work, Dubourg has arranged gladiolas, anemones, chrysanthemums, dahlias, carnations, marigolds and snapdragons in a vase, and the detailed palette of their depiction speaks of the artist's love for flowers. (via 1st RECORDING OF: Little Darlin’ - Gladiolas (1956)

It was written by Maurice Williams with both melody and doo-wop accompaniment strongly emphasizing the clave rhythm. It was first recorded by Excello Records in January 1957 and quickly released as a rhythm-and-blues song by Williams' R&B group, the Gladiolas. The song is noted for its spoken recitation by the lead singer ("My Darlin' I need you..."). The Gladiolas, featuring Williams, were from Lancaster, South Carolina, where they had been together since high school. Their original version of the song was on the small Excello label. (Excello primarily recording "swamp blues" songs in Crowley, Louisiana.) The Gladiolas song peaked at No. 11 on the R&B charts in April 1957, but barely dented the Hot 100. By 1959, Williams' group became "Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs" with the rock 'n roll-R&B hit "Stay."

UPDATE 06/18/2022

Hello all, apologies for the absence as of late. My health has been really wonky between a chronic health issue and the awful heat wave that's been going through it's been taking me longer to get better with flair ups. Wich in turn ends up with me taking longer to get updates completed.

Anyway here's some flowers that are growing in the front garden area!

A few different colored gladiolus :

We've had pinks before but the white and peach are a new variety we got in a mixed bulb pack that we honestly had forgotten we planted so they where a very nice surprise!

Our tallest sunflower! We think it's at least 8 to 9+ foot tall and might still get taller, we plan on harvesting the seeds to replant again and continue growing as we absolutely love how they look and since it has multiple heads we get more seed for both us and the wild birds that live in our area!

Multiple sunflowers on a slightly shorter sunflower, we also plan on replanting these as well

Some Hollyhock variations

There was a light white and pink one that had bloomed but I didn't get any pictures before it wilted under the heat, I plan on saving seed from that one and planting more into the flower bed.

I'm going to try to post an update on some of the stuff thats going on in the backyard this week!
