Here's how i view the hashira as:
Mitsuri is the bestest big sister ever no i don't accept no everyone loves her and there is a reason
Kyojuro would be the cool big brother along with tengen (his wives would love to take care of you as well)
Sanemi is the mean insane looking uncle that's actually soft for you and only you (he's still mean tho )
Obanai is kinder to you in comparison because mitsuri loves you and he doesn't want to make her sad (he grows to love you but is too shy to accept it)
Muichiro and giyuu are your silent siblings that you go to when you need to be alone but not completely alone y'know like they don't talk much so it's perfect for some quality time
(i don't know enough about gyomei to make an assumption rn)
I was bored so um,,, here you go?
the hashira as a big found family.
summary. the hashira, but with found family dynamics.
trigger & content warnings. no applicable warnings.
tropes, pairings, fic length, & other notes. found family, fluff. mitsuri kanroji & reader, kyojuro rengoku & reader, tengen uzui & reader, sanemi shinazugawa & reader, obanai iguro & reader, muichiro tokito & reader, giyuu tomioka & reader, gyomei himejima & reader, shinobu kocho & reader. 0.7k words. no pronouns for reader.
author's thoughts. 100% agreed!!! i had to make a post based on this ask, it was super cute to me hehe <3 thank you for the idea!!
Tumblr media
mitsuri is the kind and supportive big sister. she is well beloved for a reason, indeed. she's the one you can go to if you need encouragement. oh, some people said that you're bad at your hobby? that you're bad at your job as a demon slayer, if you happen to share her occupation? don't listen to them! you're doing your best, that's all that matters. she won't rudely confront anyone being mean, but she will confront them if necessary. she's just very kind about it, about everything she does <3
kyojuro and tengen are the guy equivalents of mitsuri. kyojuro is so so supportive, just like mitsuri! tengen is also very supportive, but he's the one to lovingly bully you (and later get scolded by his wives for it. he looks like a kicked puppy every time they yell at him LMAO). he's also one of the "no-one can bully them except for me!!" types. it's okay, though. if tengen's being too mean, just go hide behind kyojuro or tengen's wives! kyojuro will laugh joyously and just... hoist you up and run away. he probably takes you out to eat! the wives can and will bully tengen back if you choose to run to them.
sanemi is definitely that uncle. the words he spits towards you in front of everyone else are mean and cruel, but behind closed doors, he's much gentler. gives you little headpats. he feeds dogs with you as a pastime. also he is SO protective man. if someone fucks with you, just go to sanemi. he will chew them OUT. he'll tear them a whole new asshole. he's the second "no-one can bully them except for me!" type.
obanai is an interesting one, i think. on on hand, he is kind of like sanemi in that he's a little mean and harsh with you, but he's generally much gentler than sanemi. he's kind of like a reserved older cousin. you don't see him much, and you don't talk to him as much, but he loves you nonetheless. he's just too shy to admit it. bro also doesn't want to make his wife mitsuri sad, so yeah, he's a lot gentler with you than sanemi is. he will also be so mean to anyone who harasses you.
muichiro is definitely the quiet, absentminded brother. if you just want to quietly watch clouds or listen to the wind, feel free to sit beside mui when he's doing it! you don't even have to bother announcing your presence. he knows you're there. he doesn't mind. mui is also a bit possessive. you're his sibling!! do not ignore him pls, he will be sad. probably clings to your sleeve, regardless of if you're older or younger. another one who will be VERY mean to anyone who harasses you.
giyuu is the reserved brother. he's another one you can go to if you need quiet time. he might offer to share food with you, maybe he'll ask what's on your mind. he's awkward with showing that he cares, but he really does! he cares a lot. he's like... the quiet guardian. he's nicer to anyone who bothers you, but he will confront them and will be very firm about it. he won't bully them back like sanemi or obanai, but he won't be kind like mitsuri.
gyomei is the father of the group. as the oldest hashira, he is the one that has to stop any shenanigans going on. you want to do something stupid with tengen? no. do not. you will make gyomei sad if you get hurt :c he seems like he would give really really good hugs. also, if you fall asleep on his arm, it's okay. he'll stay there with you for a bit, or he'll carry you to bed. he watches out for everyone's health and safety!
shinobu is the responsible big sister. she is ON TOP of your health and will absolutely tear you apart if you fail to take care of yourself. also she is SO mean LMAO... she bullies you lovingly. she also falls into the "no-one can bully them except for me!" category. if someone is mean to you? oh man. oh boy. they had better beg for her forgiveness. an angry shinobu is a scary shinobu. she can be very sweet, though. if you're having a bad day, she will definitely hug you tight and tell you it's okay to feel angry or sad (hypocrite...).
please consider reblogging, it helps me out quite a lot!

Alright so here’s what I’m thinking
A plot B plot structure because you KNOW your girl can’t resist an A plot B plot
A plot: while sparring and bickering a little, Giyuu accidentally calls Sanemi ‘Sabito’. Sanemi, being Sanemi, who doesn’t know who Sabito is, automatically assumes Giyuu was trying to insult him (not helped by Giyuu’s stubborn refusal to elaborate). As fate would have it, shortly after they’re assigned to a mission together and Sanemi makes it his mission to get Giyuu to explain who Sabito is. We cut back and forth between this and B.
B plot: Meanwhile, the mistake stirs up old feelings for Giyuu and the B plot is centered around him meeting Urokodaki and Sabito for the first time, Sabito’s initially coarse behavior and how it was always undercut but a real tenderness for him. We span several years, showing Giyuu and Sabito’s relationship developing from a sibling-esque rivalry to the beginnings of first love, and finish the B plot probably the night before final selection.
Finally after their mission Giyuu is injured and they both find a Wisteria house to patch up. Sanemi finally demands to know why Giyuu “insulted” him and Giyuu immediately takes offense to the notion that being called Sabito’s name is anything but an honor. His temper takes ahold of him and he finally tells Sanemi exactly what Sabito meant to him. Sanemi immediately feels bad for his assumption, especially given his own history as a big brother.
And then they. Idk. Kiss or something. whatever

ft giyuu and the ghost of a plot
something about you seems familiar..
Giyuu doesn’t think much of anyone when he finally returns from his mission in the mountains. He doesn’t even know you exist before deciding to pay Urokodaki a visit on his way back home, when you– and I mean this is the most abrupt sense possible– try to kill him.
How long has it been? Since he visited his old Master?
The sun is setting earnest by the time he reaches the last few traps set for intruders at the base of his old mountain home. From afar, Giyuu’s tired eyes land on rising smoke and a thatched hut in that familiar moss patch. A few lines of laundry hang in a clearing off to the side.
“Excuse me?” He rasps once with the realization he hasn’t spoken a single word the entire solitary journey. That was normal, surely. “Master?” He tries again. This time the words bounce out the way they’re supposed to and still no one answers. Someone must be tending to that fire, he reasons, and steps closer. A rustle here, a crunch there– there’s someone in the house.
“Urokodaki?” Giyuu peers into the one-room home from an open window and sees nothing but warm firelight and two zabuton near the fireplace. Two swords too, rest inside by the front door and he’s sure Urokodaki is here and even has company over. The damp smell of laundry leads him around the other side of the building. This is getting ridiculous. “Hello?”
And then something pokes at his senses through the damp. Sweet and floral, but not enough to belong to the cloth hanging up to dry. He spins into the laundry maze, pushing the thin summer futons aside. There are yukata hanging up too, and patterned towels. He walks through a familiar robe and parts two pillowcases like curtains in a straight line to that familiar smell.
But at the same time as he ducks under the last sheet, you appear in his blindspot from an angle too awkward for him to defend against. Pop right out from the linens to his left. With a single silent step he doesn’t even hear you before he smells that nostalgic lavender in the breeze your movements carry.
He’s quick enough to sidestep and you’re quick enough to pull the momentum from your swing, but neither of you are fast enough to completely register your shock in time to stop the attack. The hairpin you pulled from behind your ear is already fully through the meat of Giyuu’s hand from where he’s only half heartedly tried to stop you. Giyuu gapes at you in silence if only because of Sabito’s mask resting loosely around your neck. It still smells like his lavender.
“Oh my– you’re– you’re the water Hashira.”
Giyuu means to respond– and if he were the one to recall this story he would say that he did– but no sounds quite make it past his lips. You mean to apologize and pull your makeshift weapon out of him, but he appeared so suddenly and all you ever hear about from your Master and those training around you, is of this, the current water Hashira you’re trying to succeed.
You have a scar across the middle of your face and you’re wearing his mask. You smell like his sachets. You are brave and he’s a stranger. He closes his fingers slowly around the long pin as thoughts grind and gear inside his head.
You’re too embarrassed to move. You thought he was an intruder! This cannot reasonably be your fault. He’s in shock, surely. He never even took his hand off his sword. You always pictured him glum, since all anyone ever remarked upon was his speed or general monotony, but like this above you, he almost looks on the verge of tears. Getting poked through your hand must hurt, that’s fair. Now would be a terrible time to ask to be his tsuguko right?
Giyuu extends his free hand from his sword absentmindedly to the mask around your neck, “This isn’t yours.”
And you’re still so stunned all you can even manage is a quiet, honest answer, “My friend gave it to me.”
His fingers shift from your neck to your face, to the scar across your nose. He traces it with a finger and thumbs your cheek as if he can’t believe you’re something he can actually touch.
“Giyuu? That you, Airhead?”
And then you’re both looking at each other in absolute horror because that’s Urokodaki’s voice– and then it’s Urokodaki’s arm lifting a futon up so that he can find his goddamned pupil. The old man steps out from under the last line of laundry and stops before he can fully straighten himself back up to standing and still he figures, he shouldn’t be surprised.
“What happened?” His eyes roll in his voice. Your eyes dart to your Master and before you can explain–
“My fault.” Giyuu musters. Your hand is still on the other end of the long metal pin and neither of you have made to move an inch. And gods help you, he still hasn’t taken his hand from your face.
i'm working on reqs right now and this got so far away from me i can't even use it because it's so off topic 💀💀, but what do you guys think about a little miss sabito incarnate fic? send me ideas if you want it bc IM BOOKED

Sanegiyuu prompt
Okay, so I was thinking of Gomez and Morticia's relationship dynamic while scrolling through SaneGiyuu content. T
hen I thought about ho awesome if we could get that dynamic with them but specifically the part where Gomez appears wherever Morticia is to worship her whenever she speaks French.
And I was thinking, how do I apply that here??
Then it came to me, Giyuu's hair. We never see his hair down and I think there would be instances where he'd have to let his hair out or the tie breaks but maybe other people have other ideas. This is just some SaneGiyuu brainrot.

i think sanemi would be very blunt when complimenting giyuu. like,,, giyuu would caught him staring at him and point it out and sanemi would just say "you're just really pretty." giyuu blushes as if that didn't at least 3 times a day and sanemi smiles by how cute his hubby looks.

Pale Imitation
Hello everyone! Happy RenGiyuu Wednesday! This is way later in the day than I wanted to post this but uh let's roll with it and pretend I didn't forget about it. Enjoy, gays and theys
TW: Mentions of Death, Blood, Brief Mention of CPR.
Tumblr media
A gasp tore through the warm layer of haze that settled in the humid house. The window was open, inviting the summer air in, producing trails of cold sweat to clung to Giyuu's skin.
He sat up quickly, throwing the blanket off a side to feel the cold carpet under his feet. He held his head in his hands, keeping his eyes open to chase away the haunting images of his nightmare.
Kyojuro's hand was still warm when it touched his face. It was warm when it fell and when Giyuu begged to God as a nonbeliever. Never in his life did he pray so much. Not when he lost Sabito, not when he lost himself.
Kyojuro's sweat was still warm. Kyojuro's blood was still warm when he packed his wound with gauze. Kyojuro's skin was still warm when he beat blood back into his heart. Thump, thump, thump; artificial heartbeats are pale imitations of a working heart.
Giyuu put his feet back on his futon. The cold wasn't as comforting as it should have been. He felt a tear fall on his wrist, and that's when he noticed he was crying.
Of course it was Kyojuro. It had to be his love that had to fight an Upper Moon. He was alone. If only Giyuu was a little faster. If only he was there when it happened--
"Giyuu?" a hand touched his leg and Giyuu flinched away. He looked over. A warm hand remained where it had grazed Giyuu's thigh.
Giyuu looked away, unable to look into those eyes. Kyojuro took his arm and pulled until he could hold Giyuu's hand. "Are you alright, dear?"
Giyuu couldn't talk. He knew that if he even attempted to open his mouth, the only noise he could make would be croaks of pain. He nodded.
Kyojuro shifted to sit up next to him. "You had a nightmare, didn't you? The same one?" Giyuu nodded. Kyojuro held Giyuu's rough hand in both of his. He brought his knuckles to his chapped lips to kiss them. He pressed Giyuu's palm against his chest, right next to his wound but directly over his heart.
Giyuu could feel Kyojuro's pulse under his fingers. It was strong, the strongest it's been since the accident... the accident...
He needed to stop describing it as an accident. It wasn't an accident.
His body relaxed at the physical reminder of Kyojuro's good health. His mind wasn't as fortunate. Kyojuro noticed. He tucked a hair behind Giyuu's ear and held his chin, guiding the man to look at his lover.
"I'm here," Kyojuro reassured, bringing his sleeve up to wipe Giyuu's tears away. His sleeve was soaked after cleaning his cheeks.
Giyuu looked down. His tears could be heard beating against his blanket.
Kyojuro tilted his head back up and brought him into a loose hug, "I'm here now, and I'm alive. That's what matters, isn't it?"
Yeah, Giyuu guessed that's what should matter to him. Kyojuro survived. He survived and he was alive now to kiss Giyuu's temple. Giyuu dropped his head against Kyojuro's shoulder.
Kyojuro knew how difficult it was for Giyuu to process his death and his... undeath. He was dead for two minutes. He lost a quarter of his guts and his whole eye. Giyuu expected him to be dead. He did die, but he was alive. He lived.
Kyojuro laid them down, resting Giyuu's head against his chest. Giyuu looked up at him, worried about his injury. Kyojuro didn't react to his worry, simply petting his hair and silently convincing him to lay his head down.
When he complied, he instantly knew why. Thump. Thump Thump. It was so loud in his ear and Giyuu could feel how hot Kyojuro's chest was with life. Since when was he shirtless? Giyuu couldn't answer. He felt like he was melting against his lover's embrace.
Everything of him and within him melted. He sighed physically, shakily to represent how much the daily nightmares affect him. Each night, Kyojuro comforted him without frustration or complaint.
Giyuu thought he had prayed for God to save just his boyfriend. He was foolish to think that God would kill one of his angels so easily.
Kyojuro pulled the thin blanket over them again and held Giyuu as he stirred. He didn't realize how close he was to falling asleep again. When did it become this easy?
"I'm not going anywhere, just getting comfy. Are you comfortable, dear?" Giyuu didn't bother to give him an answer as he wrapped an arm around Kyojuro's waist.
Kyojuro chuckled. Damn. The sound was beautiful and rich. It made Giyuu's heart synchronize with Kyojuro's, pounding hard and strong against his chest. He loved his laugh. Giyuu mentioned that Kyojuro had slept through their one-month anniversary and pretended to be upset about it. Kyojuro had laughed so hard that one of his stitches tore. Giyuu didn't apologize enough by his standards.
Sleep came easy yet again. Giyuu knew that more nights against Kyojuro's bare chest were guaranteed, and Giyuu couldn't find a single reason to complain. Just as he was seconds away from falling asleep, or maybe it was the beginning of a nice dream, he heard the words Kyojuro had yet to confess to him:
"I love you."
So, with as much strength as Giyuu could gather:
"I love you too."
Giyuu must be living a dream.

Okay, I'm having Senjurou thoughts because he's never been able to completely master flame breathing, right?
He can probably perform all the forms without using the actual breathing style, as a Rengoku, he might even be born with a body that's more adept to breathing styles.
But his sword has never switched color. Ever.
He thought that he just need to train more, because surely he's just lacking the skills, right? You only get a sword after you've completed the entrance exam. He is skilled. He is qualified. Senjurou can kill demons, he has the ability and affinity to, but he just can't do flame breathing. He just cant.
So what if Kyojurou was like "Damn it, this is obviously not working, and I have to make sure my brother is not lacking for whenever I'm away." He sees how Mitsuri took his Flame breathing and turned it into love breathing, maybe Senjurou needs to do the same!
Luckily, he knows someone who might just be the key. Someone who can weather and soothe Senjurou's mellow, and often melancholic temperament, and refine it into a form he can use. Someone he can also trust to take care of Senjurou, because at the end of day, he is still his precious brother.
He takes no shame in having another teach his younger brother. If he is lacking, then let him find another who can provide.
And so starts the story of Senjurou Rengoku, the First Water breather in Rengoku history.

you can’t tell me that Giyuu Tomioka doesn’t randomly just look at you and say “I’m grateful you’re still here” and then go back to being himself like he hasn’t spoken at all. When he’s in love, his inner monologue is word-for-word Nothing, by Bruno Major. Most days, he can barely hold eye contact with you when you’re smiling, but just being with you in the quiet is Giyuu’s kind of love
there’s nothing like doing nothing with you <3
