Script of GitF or as much as I can stand of it:
My brothers in Christ, I don't know how far I'm going to be able to get, but I will try.
And here we go, because anyone above 30 can't be a thrilling beauty.

Gee, think Moffat had a thing for Reinette?? "cleavage that could start a war..."
Also, Moffat likes to use exclamation points. Like, a lot. Like it's sounding sadly desperate, how much he's using exclamation points to describe the action.
Tumblr media
Oh, you have got to be KIDDING me!

Ok, honestly, it wasn't as bad as I had thought--mainly because I can read fast. So, basically this all confirmed what we all knew: Moffat hates Rose and has no fucking clue.
Now I'm properly pissed off enough that I might end up having to give my contribution to a fix-it fic for this episode. God knows, I can't do any worse than Moffat.

So the way Steven Moffat wrote The Girl In The Fireplace, now that we have access to that script, is odious, particularly in the way he handled Rose in between dialogue. Was surprised to learn he is a writer every bit as childish and pompous as the episode makes him seem.

When you rewatch doctor who reruns of Doctor/Rose era, do you skip over girl in the fireplace?
Hello, friend!
To tell you something......I've only ever watched Girl in the Fireplace twice. Once in 2019 when I was half-delirious with pneumonia, and once in 2021 especially to write what I dislike about that episode when someone asked me about it. So, yes...GITF is a skip for me!

Rose's look in GitF is so cute with the wavy hair and tshirt I'm in shock that Ten wasn't shaking with barely contained [love, lust, secret third thing?].
I really never hated the episode (aesthetics were on point, Rose was cute, her and Mickey were friends, Rose put the Doctor in his fucking plac) despite being clinically insane about Rose/the doctor....I don't know? I always saw it more like the Doctor was infatuated with a historical figure, it wasn't the same as Rose. Now I do wish we didn't get the episode the way it was, it felt like a waste of the precious little time we had with Rose when we could have had more of them being besties in puppy love like in Tooth & Claw...
...but if we had more time with Rose, I'd have loved to see her meet a historical figure she comes to fancy, and she gets to kiss or even flirt with, Ten get grumpy and pouty about it, and her get to say "One word, Doctor: France."

i'm sorry i am so MAD. sophia myles is a complete idiot. to say that noel never hurt me and he is my friend which apparently makes the over 20+ women accusing him of sexual harassment and bullying null and void is complete horseshit. to call them 'nobodies'. she was literally dating david, THE STAR OF THE SHOW! of course he didn't touch you! an unnamed actress literally said he harassed her and when she turned him down he bad mouthed her in the industry. he had naked auditions. FILMED them without consent. shared it with his friends. production workers had to be moved into different departments to get away. for her to discredit them in the most misogynistic way because she apparently wasn't even at her "fittest" back then so of course he wouldn't have touched her...she is a complete lunatic. and to host a twitter space you dare call a 'safe space' with NOEL IN IT. and block people who rightfully called you out? get in the bin.

see normally i try to avoid and dislike using "they're ooc" as a criticism bc it's been historically used to flatten out a character's flaws. i want to use any possible in universe route to explain what's going on regardless of whether it aligns w authorial intent or not. anyway i think ten is ooc in girl in the fireplace

Something I've been thinking about if Reinette had come aboard the TARDIS in The Girl in the Fireplace; would she have replaced Rose as the Doctor's love interest or would the Doctor try to have his cake and eat it by having both Rose and Reinette on the go at the same time? Quite frankly, I don't either option would reflect too greatly on the Doctor, as romancing two women at the same time is a disgusting, misogynist thing to do, but then so is ditching someone you've been close to for some time for someone fancier. I don't know; the more I think about the Doctor's characterisation in that episode, the more I think Steven Moffat needs an education on what is and isn't acceptable when it comes to writing relationships. GITF certainly raises a lot of alarm flags about Moffat's attitude towards women. Anyone else got any thoughts on how having both Rose and Reinette in the TARDIS would've worked out?

The post about GitF has briefly revived my Moffat saltiness lol
Every single contribution he made during RTD’s era (aside from Blink) involved introducing a love interest for the Doctor or Rose, I mean come on!
I’m actually surprised he didn’t have Sally reveal she fell in love with the Doctor, but...GitF and the Library episodes are just so out of place 😭right smack in the middle of their respective seasons’ arcs suddenly here’s someone Ten is now apparently in love with and someone he’s going to marry sometime in the future😭 they really do feel more like Eleven episodes
and in s1 with Rose being so...idk how to word it maybe “ditzy” around Jack- like the lines about fainting or getting swept off her feet or how he’s talking to her about a bomb and she’s going “promises promises”
it always rubbed me the wrong way, she didn’t act that way around Adam (if anything he’s the one that fainted lol), Mickey or the Doctor
there was something just so passive about how she was behaving there compared to how fierce she was in ‘The Unquiet Dead’ or “Rose” or “The Long Game”
ok if I don’t stop rambling now I’m going to write an essay haha

"nine would never do what ten did in gitf" nine is a fictional character who would do whatever he was written to do. it's an ooc episode bc moffat wrote it and he has a pretty overt dislike of rose not because nine is better than ten or more in love with rose or whatever. it's licherally that simple.

no but it’s so funny how with every ship i ship except one i’m like ‘people are entitled to their opinion about their headcanons and metas and i can appreciate differing opinions if i disagree’ but when it comes to the doctor and rose? fellas i have been thinking about these two for years and my takes are Right and that’s that on that
