"Anyway, the first time I met her was back in 1930, when she was getting ready to collect a thousand a week as the star of George Gershwin’s Girl Crazy. [...] Anyhow, Ginger had to do a dance to a tune called Embraceable You, little number, and for one reason or another she wasn’t getting it right. So the producers called in Adele and me, the way you might call in a plumber when the tap’s leaking, and we helped her make it work" — Fred Astaire
“Finally, Fred said, ‘Here, Ginger, try it with me.’ That was the first time I danced with Fred Astaire.” — Ginger Rogers
I can't help but think of Ginger and Fred when I listen to "Embraceable You". The first time they met. The first time they danced together. The fact that they both talk about makes me think it was something special.
I especially like what Fred said: "Matter of fact, that’s the first time I danced with Ginger – on the big, thick, ugly awkward rug in the lobby of the Alvin Theatre while the stage was cluttered with scenery in the process of construction". For my delusional mind it's like he said: "It wasn't a very romantic scenario, but it's still a beautiful memory".
Sometimes I look back at Judy Garland's performance and try to imagine what Ginger sounded like performing in the 1930s.

Gotham Incorrect Quotes Pt 199
Lee: I mean, you just don't come up to a girl and say "the humidity's very high this time of year, will you marry me?"
Jim: Well, I just didn't wanna get, uh, romantic.
Lee: Oh, you just didn't wanna get, uh, romantic. What're you saving it for?
Jim: I thought we were above that dort of thing.
Lee: Oh, Jim, maybe you are. I hope I'm not.
