Medicine: Jason Todd x fem!reader
Tumblr media
***
„I’m home Ja…..”
The sentence dies on her lips before she can finish it, just because of the view in front of her eyes.
“Jace? What is all this?” she turns around looking at the freshly cleaned apartment and her boyfriend in an apron, standing by the oven, making pancakes. “My birthday are like a month away….”
“Y/N!” he smiles “you’re home….”
“Yeah, I…. um….What?” she frowns in confusion
“I thought I could make you some comfort food. You’ve been working so hard lately and I gotta take care of you.”
“… I..um…” she’s struggling to find words “Thank you… I guess?”
“Come sit, baby. Let me serve you.”
“serve me? Jason, what is going on here?”
“Can’t I just spoil my girl?”
“You can, it’s not like I’m complaining, but…..”
“No buts, baby…. Let me take that…” he takes the grocery bag from her and put it on the counter, grabbing her hand and leading her to the table “and greet you properly” he leans forward and kisses her softly, gently, caressing her cheek.
“Jason…..”
“Shhh….” He put fingers on her lips and kisses her again, wrapping arms around her and pulling her closes. She doesn’t understand a single thing of what is happening, but melts into his touch and ministrations.  Her palms land on his chest, feeling his heartbeat and warmth. But she can also feel something… desperate, longing, coming from him.
Of course, the easiest way to find out would be just to ask him, but Y/N know Jason well enough to not do that. Todd was never known to be straightforward when it came to feelings. She would just have to wait and see, probably using some of the girlfriend tricks.
“How was your day princess? Work still kicking your ass?”
“I’m all better now…..” she smiles “you did all this just for me?”
“all the best for my pretty girl…” he caresses her side gently, looking deep into her eyes “do you like it? Do you want to try some pancake?”
“Of course I do, baby…. In fact, I didn’t have time to eat the whole day, so….”
“You what?!” Jason is appalled by what’s she saying  “My poor girl, you must be exhausted, let me……”
“Jason Todd!!!” she cried out when he lift her off the floor, picking her  bridal style and carrying to the table “put me down, I can walk!”
“No you can’t.”
“Jason!!”
“Can’t risk you fainting on me, baby. I want to take care of you. Let me….. please?” he pouts and stops in the middle of the room “please?”
“You’re using the puppy eyes on me?” she laughs “I invented that technique Jason!”
“pretty please?”
“You’re crazy….” She chuckles “but ok, I’ll let you carry me to the table. Just beware the moment when I get used to it…..”
“I can carry you whenever and wherever you want.” He sits her down on the chair gently making sure she’s comfortable. “just stay here. I’m about to bring you dinner.” he rushes to the oven and brings her a ton of freshly made pancakes, putting them on her plate.
“Jason?”
“Yes?”
“You sure you’re ok? This is not how you normally behave…..”
“Normally?” his eyes widen “I don’t know what you mean. I am acting completely normal. If you don’t want my pancakes………….”
“I do! Damn, Todd. You’re not taking those away from me! I love your pancakes!”
“you do?”
“Of course I do! I love everything you made for me!”
“You do?” his whole face light up
“Mmm….” She mutters taking the first bite of the dish and rolling her eyes at the taste. “So delicious….”
“I have more!” he almost jumps on the chair, super excited like a little kid.
“Ok. Enough, Jason.”
“Why? What? What did I do?”
“We need to talk.”
“Talk?” he says this word as if someone punch him in the face. “Can I hug you first?”
She smiles at him. Oh, she knows what this is about. He just gave himself away.
“Come here….” She moves towards the couch, patting the spot next to her. “Come on Jason, don’t just stand there looking at me like I’ve grown a third eye. You wanted to cuddle, didn’t you?”
“Yes…..” she rushes to her side, wrapping arms around her tightly. Too tight….
“Jace?”
“Yes?” he holds her like a giant, talking teddy bear
“You… um… you’re kind of crushing me…..”
“Oh, oh! Sorry…I’m sorry….” He loosen the grip almost completely, then holds her more again and then loses his composure completely.
“Jace….” She sighs “what is with you today? What’s with the insecurity and doubts?”
“What!? I’m not….insecure…..” he mutters looking down on the ground
“Look at me” she grabs his chin and make him look up into her eyes “talk to me. No bullshit Jace. Talk to me.”
“Maybe…. I am a bit insecure…..”
“Why?” he looks down again “Why, Jason? Come on, it’s me…talk to me.”
“I don’t want you to leave me……” he admits
“You what now?!” to say she’s dumfounded would be an understatement “Why on Earth did that come into your pretty head?”
“I’m……” he trails, but instead of finishing the sentence he captures her lips again, the kiss conveying all his neediness and desperation. And as if that wasn’t enough, both his hands circle around her waist pulling her closer to his chest.
“Jason Peter Todd…….” She tries to pull back, but he doesn’t let her, his lips not leaving her. She’s so soft, so warm, so perfect and he can’t let her go. Never. And if that requires kissing and holding her for eternity he’s more than happy to do that.
“I love you so much, Y/N…..” he mumbles kissing her cheek, softly, It’s not easy for him to put that feeling into words, and he hopes it would be enough to make her stay ”Please don’t leave me…..”
“Ok, wait, hold back, rewind…” she pulls back again, this time successfully “Leave you? Have you been talking to dick again? Did he made you doubt yourself? I swear I’m gonna kill the Nightwing.”
“It wasn’t Grayson. I was just …. Thinking…..”
“Oh no, dammit. That never ends up good for you….” She laughs brushing hair out of his face. “come on, tell me what have you been thinking about?”
“nothing….”
“Jace…..”
“Why are you with me?”
“Why….. “ she sighs “Jason…. I love you… just because….You don’t just love someone for something. You don’t have to make me pancakes or clean the whole apartment or carry me around. It’s nice, really, but you don’t have to do this. I’m not gonna leave you…..”
“You’re not?” he looks at her with vulnerable eyes, almost begging her to say it again
“Do you see that look in my eyes?” she asks and he nods, a bit confused “Good.” She grabs his hand and put it on her chest “do you feel that? My heartbeat?”
“Yeah…. But….”
“It’s pure love Jason. I only have eyes for you. My heart beats only for you. Don’t ever doubt my love.”
“I’m sorry……”
“Don’t be sorry, baby…. There are so many people in this life, in Red Hood’s life that will try to use us against one another, turn us against one another, break us… you cannot doubt me, cause sure as hell I don’t doubt you. Ok?” she asks softly
“Ok….. Y/n? I love you too, can we stay like this some more? I just want to keep hugging you.”
“Are you less insecure now?”
“Might have to get some more of my medicine for that….” He smirks and falls onto his back dragging her with him, so she lays on top of him. He holds her tight, one hand on her back, the other caressing her hair and kissing the top of her head repeatedly “Yeah, I think it’s working. It definitely is working.”

carmen berzatto x reader | 2.2k | 18+ minors dni | tw: smut, more smut & tooth-rotting cuteness
prompt was: Carmy doing something mad cheesy and cute for his girl on v-day like he tells her that he has to work on valentines just to surprise her with a super romantic evening like you get home and there’s nice music playing there’s heart confetti in the entry way leading to the dining room and a huge bouquet of roses and a cute teddy bear is on the table and he’s in the kitchen finishing up something looking straight out of a Michelin star menu and he’s like “ oh I bought you new comfy clothes and I got your favorite movie ready for us “ and there’s candles and champagne and you’re just over the moon happy bc he would just do it for his girl bc he wants her to be happy and feel loved and not just bc he wants his dick wet (even though I mean after all the effort he’s ofc getting a big reward) but I could see him totally not even caring about the sexual part and just wanting to worship his girl that day and appreciate how much love they share - as requested by the very lovely and extremely talented @thecapricunt1616 if you don't go check out their work then..you are missing out, go read the bear & his honey it is phenomenal 🌼
this is a valentine's themed story, and i may not be posting it on actual valentine's day but i am posting it on galentine's day which is, frankly, the superior day anyway 🌼
🐻
As much as you didn't really care about Valentine's Day, part of you was still a little disappointed when Carmy told you that he'd put himself down to work a late shift, having forgotten what day it would be. Nobody could swap with him and you accepted that it would just be a regular day.
It wasn't like you and Carm never had dates or didn't do romantic things for each other but..it would have been nice to spend the evening together, even just relaxing on the couch.
From the moment you woke up on the 14th, there was seemingly no escape from the fact that it was Valentine's Day. Every song on the radio was a love song, social media was already flooded with endless posts of love heart pancakes, it was a little much.
Then there was work. At first it was a little cute, the management had arranged for everyone to get a little rose, and there were a couple of boxes of fancy chocolates in the break room. But then there was a seemingly unending stream of couriers dropping off huge bouquets of flowers, giant teddies, endless cards. You were sure some of them had been sent by the recipients anyway, rolling your eyes as yet another excited shriek sounded.
It wasn't that you were jealous, it would actually be pretty mortifying to have to stand there while some random guy belted out a song or recited a horribly cheesy poem at you. It was more of a reminder that you were just having a normal day, you wouldn't get to go home and spend the evening with your boyfriend, feel immense love and happiness.
At the end of the day, you could barely breathe in the elevator, cramped in at the back, surrounded by teddies and flowers, the scent overwhelming. You looked up to the ceiling, taking a deep breath and trying to tune out the chatter happening around you.
‘We actually got reservations at Ever’
‘We're spending the night at the Peninsula’
‘I definitely think he's gonna propose, I found a Tiffany brochure in the nightstand’
When you got to your car, you took a moment to enjoy the silence once you sat in before hooking your phone up to the speaker and blasting your least romantic playlist.
You stopped off at the nearest supermarket on the way home, picking up a bottle of wine, a frozen pizza and some already half-off heart shaped candies by the cash register. There were at least three men ahead of you in the line, all frantically checking their watches as they clutched slightly wilted bouquets and expensive cards.
By the time you got home all you wanted to do was sink into the bath with your bottle of wine, and forget about the day. You took your phone out as you left the car, sending a quick message to Carmy as you made your way into the building.
‘Hey babe, hope work is going okay. Love you ❤️’
You tucked your phone into your pocket before reaching into your bag for your keys, jostling the grocery bag in your other arm.
As soon as you opened the door you could sense something was happening, raising a brow as you heard music playing. The lights were on, dimmed low. You closed the door, looking down at the ground and turning slowly.
There were rose petals strewn across the floor in the shape of a heart, with more loose petals leading down to the living room. You smiled to yourself, biting your lip as you shook your head. Either you had a boyfriend who'd told you a white lie or a very romantic burglar had broken in.
You set the grocery bag down in the hall, taking off your coat and hanging it up before walking into the living room. You couldn't help but laugh with joy, placing your hand over your mouth as you found the biggest bouquet of roses you'd ever seen sitting on the middle of the coffee table.
Sitting on the couch was a stupidly large teddy bear, wearing Carm's beef t-shirt that was more often worn by you anyway. You walked over to the couch, smiling as you touched the teddy's soft head. You looked over your shoulder as you heard a familiar voice, finding your boyfriend leaning against the doorway, his sleeves rolled up and a dish towel over his shoulder.
“Hey,” You grinned. “could've sworn you said you had to work tonight.”
“Well..about that,” Carm grinned, holding out his hand. “there's a chance I was lying.”
“Just a slim chance, is it?” You raised a brow with a smile, stepping closer and taking Carm's hand before he gently dragged you into the kitchen.
“So slim,” Carmy nodded, pulling you in for a kiss before you pulled back and took in the sight of the kitchen. The lights were dimmed low, candles dotted about on the counter and the table, a bottle of wine you knew was super expensive and two glasses waiting.
“Hope you don't mind.”
“I suppose I can forgive you,” You murmured softly, unable to stop smiling as you looked back at your boyfriend. “just this once. This is all..incredible, I can't believe you've done this.”
“I can be romantic when I want to be.” Carm winked at you, walking to the oven and slowly opening it.
You took a deep breath as you took everything in, your hand over your heart.
You wanted to tell Carm that he was always romantic, even when he didn't think he was. Like when he would bring home a dessert for you, when he would let you steal his clothes, dance with you in the kitchen after a long day, spend whole days wrapped around you when you just needed him to be there and couldn't go anywhere.
You wanted to tell him he didn't need to do so much, but..you loved that he did. Yes, it was a slightly ridiculous made up day that had driven you crazy but when it was Carm making such an effort to treat you..it felt important and real.
“Oh, before I forget,”
You snapped out of your thoughts as you heard Carm's voice, looking over to him.
“I know you said you didn't need it but..I got you that hoodie you wanted,” He smiled. “with the..letters and all that. It's in the bedroom.”
“I don't know what to say,” You smiled, tears starting to well in your eyes. “I..”
“Then don't say anything,” Carm shrugged with a grin. “Just enjoy.”
“That I can do.” You nodded, stepping closer to give him a kiss before heading to the bedroom, your heart achingly full.
Sitting on the floor by your bed was a pink gift bag, red tissue paper with white hearts placed on the top of it. You pictured Carm carefully arranging the paper, wanting it to be perfect.
You went to the bag, carefully moving the tissue paper and reaching inside it to pull out a ridiculously soft hoodie, tears starting to spill from your eyes. You had mentioned, weeks back, when you were laying on the couch with Carm one evening that you had seen a hoodie you liked, lifting your phone to show him. He'd asked if you were going to buy it and you said you'd think about, but it was a little too expensive.
And suddenly there it was, in your hands. You carefully laid it on the bed before going for a shower, laughing to yourself when you thought about how lucky you were, barely able to believe it. After your shower you put on your new hoodie, letting out a relaxed sigh at how soft it felt.
Once you were ready you went to the kitchen, just in time for Carm to hand you a plate and a glass of wine.
“It's just pasta,” He smiled, kissing your cheek. “Come on, I got the movie ready to go.”
You looked down to your plate, raising a brow. In theory it was just pasta, in reality it was a work of art.
“This is too beautiful to eat,” You grinned, looking over to Carm as he got his own plate. “But I'm willing to ignore that.”
As you walked into the living room, you laughed softly as you saw what was waiting on the screen, looking over to Carm.
“We don't have to watch it again.”
“I know, but we will,” He grinned. “It's your favorite.”
“You're my favorite, you softy.” You smiled, sitting down on the couch beside the teddy and resting your plate on your lap. Carm went to sit beside you, picking up the teddy and carefully setting it aside.
“Sorry buddy, she's all mine.”
After the most perfect dinner, you laid down on the couch, your head in Carm's lap as he trailed his fingers along your arm.
“I love you,” You murmured softly, turning to look up at your boyfriend. “kinda feels like I should tell you, getting that vibe today.”
“That's so funny, I got the same vibe,” Carm grinned, moving his hand to touch your cheek gently. “I love you too. So much.”
You sat up, gently touching Carm's cheek as you leaned in for a kiss, your heart swelling as you felt him smile against your lips.
After a while you found yourself sitting in Carm's lap, your hands gently moving through his hair, his hands under your hoodie and gently stroking your waist.
It was slow and intimate and perfect, but you could feel a growing need for more.
As if he could sense your rising desire, Carm pulled back and smiled as he touched your cheek, his eyes focused on you.
“We don't..we don't have to do anything, if you're not in the mood,” He murmured softly. “I'm having the time of my life just being in the same room as you.”
You could have cried. Cried because you knew he truly meant it. He never did anything for you because he expected something in return, never made you feel like you owed him something. Even on a day that basically forced couples into bed, you knew he wouldn't be upset or push you if you said no.
“Look at you,” You murmured with a grin, touching Carm's cheek. “you are so perfect it makes me worry that you're actually a psychopath. Luckily you're a chef so I don't have to worry too much about that.”
He laughed and kissed you deeply, your arms winding around his neck.
“I'm serious,” He smiled as he rested his forehead against yours. “just because it's a certain day it doesn't mean we need to do anything.”
“I know,” You grinned, pulling back and moving your hand to gently stroke Carm's hair. “but I would want to be with you no matter what day. And I haven't given you your gift yet.”
“Oh yeah?” Carm raised a brow, unable to hide the grin on his face. “What is it?”
“A surprise of course,” You teased, getting up from the couch, holding your hand out. “come with me and find out.”
He does.
You take him to the bedroom, after a couple of stops for one of you to pull the other in for a kiss.
You tell him to get on the bed, you stand at the end of it.
Despite the slight nerves, you relax when he smiles at you. Your leggings are slowly peeled off, your hoodie pulled away to leave you in a lingerie set that, judging by the way Carm's jaw fell open, was absolutely worth the money.
You give him a full view, turning around in a slow circle before crawling onto the bed and into his lap.
It's quite impressive how speechless he is, taking a moment before he surges forward and kisses you deeply.
His hands are everywhere, fingers digging into you in the most wonderful way. It doesn't take long for marks to bloom on your neck and chest, for you go be laid out on your back, panties tugged aside. He stops you when you go to peel them off, tells you how pretty they make you look .
He takes his time, tongue working you over slowly. You beg for more, he gives you more. His fingers stretch you so perfectly it's almost enough but not quite.
You see stars, breath catching in your throat as you cry out. He moves on top of you, you pull him in to taste yourself.
He's pushed onto his back, you graze your nails over his jeans, tell him to take it all off, slowly. He obliges, a deeper hunger growing in you as he reveals himself to you. Every time feels like the first time, fills you with desire.
Your hand grips his wrist as he goes to take off his shorts, you tell him you got it. His hand moves into your hair as you taste him, endless praise spills from his lips.
Your hands grip the sheets, your back arched as you moan louder than you ever thought possible. His hand moves along your back, his touch firm but full of love.
You lay side by side, hands reaching out to touch each other as your heads turn and eyes meet.
There are no words, but you both know what they are.
After a while you slip your hoodie back on, give Carm a wink as you leave the room.
As you sit between Carm's legs, his arms wrapped firmly around you as you look back and feed him a half-off chocolate, you think maybe this Valentine's Day thing isn't so bad after all.

Bringing Them Breakfast In Bed (Brothers + Undateables)
↬  Genre/Content Warnings: Fluff. Someone gets a boner.
Tumblr media
LUCIFER:
When you walk in balancing the breakfast tray Lucifer is already sat up in bed checking his D.D.D for any important news from RAD, but his attention is quickly diverted to you. The spread you offer him? Buttered toast, two different types of jam in cute little decorative jars, a full wine glass, and a cup of tea.
"Wine in the morning? What do you take me for," he chuckles putting his phone down. Grinning you tell him that it's just grape juice to which he laughs and accepts the tray from you with a sincere thank you. Finds it incredibly endearing and can't stop smiling - calls you his good girl/boy with a wink. Will definitely put him in a good mood for the rest of the day.
MAMMON:
"For me? All of it? Really?"
Yup! He's flabbergasted, blinking stupidly with his mouth hanging open as his cheeks redden before eventually catching himself and clearing his throat, putting on his usual bravado.
"Well damn, I definitely deserve this huh, being the Great Mammon after all!" Cheeks are still red despite his demeanor change. Takes the tray and starts tucking in with gusto.
"Ya gonna help me with this right? Here, I'll feed ya a pancake look--"
He does, insisting on feeding it to you by hand and is a happy bubbly fella all morning. Why? Because his human pampered him and he feels s p e c i a l. (Because he is, of course.)
LEVIATHAN:
Shakes off his tiredness in an instant when he realises what you're handing him.
"Is this that Limited Edition Ruri-chan cereal!? WHOOOAAH!"
A million thank yous before he takes a million pictures to post on his social media (probably with cute captions like "I have the best gf/bf lololololol") and is loathe to eat it but it looks so good and ohhh man he's caved already and it IS good. You can't help but laugh at him as he eats it with his eyes closed, humming happily.
"I can't believe you got these. Just for me? Really? Like, the whole box, you don't want any at all?" Blushes reaaal hard once it dawns on him how difficult it must have been for you to get and that you made all the effort for him and him only.
"What if I feed you a spoonful? They're really good." Blushy blush, hide behind that fringe cutie pie.
SATAN:
"Ohh well well well, what have we here?" A smirk as you hand him his tray. Freezes when he sees what's on his plate and his cheeks redden quickly. You can't help but grin as he just stares. Cat pancakes. Cat-head shaped pancakes with syrupy faces.
"You okay there?"
"I....they're..." He clears his throat and blinks up at you.
"Cute right?" Your grin widens as he nods.
"I don't know if I can eat them..." At his mumbled confession you laugh and plop next to him on the bed, offering to feed them to him which has him blushing more. What can I say, sleepy morning bedhead Satan is easily flustered.
ASMODEUS:
"Oh darling this is amazing! But really all you had to do was show up nude and that would have been all the breakfast I need--"
"ASMO!"
He giggles and licks his lips at the delicious looking spread laid before him. "G A S P, is this GLITTERY JAM!?"
"Yes! Isn't it cool?"
Squeals and tucks in, rolling his eyes in his head. "Oh my gosh it tastes as good as it looks. This would make a good lipstick colour, we should go looking for one later." Uses it as an opportunity to gossip and get a few little flirtatious moves in before the day has even started. Dabbing jam on your nose just to lick it off making you snort with laughter and shove him away.
BEELZEBUB:
Presented with a full English breakfast, a giant stack of pancakes, and orange juice - his eyes are the size of saucers as his pupils flick from the food to you.
"What's wrong, handsome?"
"I'm trying to decide what I want to eat more right now - the food or you." Because yes the poor sausage is overwhelmed and gets hard with excitement over all the deliciousness before him. Ends up shoving some egg in his gob followed by a pancake and half of the orange juice before pouncing on you. "Lemme love you!"
"BEEEL-!" He's grinning and smothering you with breakfasty smooches leaving you a giggling mess.
(Would want to finish his breakfast with you wrapped in his arms after because hugs and food are the best.)
BELPHEGOR:
"I've never seen you eat breakfast so I didn't know what to make you therefore I am serving myself," you say, gesturing to yourself with a flourish.
"Perfect." Instantly grabs you and starts biting and gnawing at you making you erupt in a fit of giggles and try to push him off. "Mmmm human, so delicious!" Keeps going, pinning you down and climbing on top.
"BELPHIE STOP THAT TICKLES." Evil grin plastered on his face, eventually ends the antics with a kiss on your nose. Then bites it.
"Just for future reference though, I love a good omelette. Make me one of those and I'm yours forever."
"You're not already mine forever?"
"No, you suck, make me an omelette." Collapses on top of you so you can't go and make one even if he wasn't just winding you up.
DIAVOLO:
Has a massive grin on his face the moment you set foot in his room, getting even bigger when he sees you've brought food. You serve it professionally, pretending to be Barbatos and making him laugh.
"Your breakfast, young Master."
"Ooo, my birthday must have come early? OH! Is that...a foam Cerberus in my coffee!?"
Devours everything eagerly, insisting on sharing with you no matter how much you protest.
"Come now, you deserve to taste the fruit of your labours. It's wonderful!" Like a big kid, smothers you with kisses when he's done. "I'll have to think of a proper way to repay you..."
BARBATOS:
Completely taken by surprise - it was usually him that was serving meals after all and here you were up at an even earlier hour than him handing him a breakfast tray? Doesn't know what to say at first, eyes roaming over the food you'd prepared for him until he spots the little flower-shaped strawberries you'd cut for him - something he'd done for you once to cheer you up when you were sick.
"Seeee," you say with a playful nudge as you settle next to him. "I've been learning."
"You have...this looks wonderful, thank you." He leans over to press a delicate kiss to your lips and you mumble a quiet you're welcome against them. The two of you share a rare moment of solitude chatting idly and enjoying each others' company before another busy day at the Palace begins.
SOLOMON:
Eyes you and the food warily. "You trying to poison me again?"
"Dude it was just gone-off milk it wouldn't have killed you. Also that was a whole year ago why are you still holding that against me?"
"Yeah well..." Sniffs it just to be sure then flashes you a playful smile. "I'm just messing. This looks really good - thanks."
Halfway through tucking in: "Y'know I'd offer to return the favour but you'd probably die so I won't bother."
"Yeah please don't," you laugh, resting your head on his shoulder.
"Although....what if you were my breakfast next time? Worth a thought," he mused, tapping his spoon against his bottom lip as you rolled your eyes.
SIMEON:
Oh...this is awkward...
You both are bearing breakfast trays intended for the other, and you both burst into laughter before making your way to his room where you swap trays and tuck in.
"I can't believe this..."
"We're too in tune with each other," Simeon smiles, sipping at his tea.
"Yeah, I guess we are." The food was delicious - heavenly even and you found yourself closing your eyes from pleasure while eating it. "This is amazing, Sims."
"Glad you like it," he replied with a grin. "You've made these eggs perfectly."
"I'll have to make them for you more often."
"I'd like that a lot."
Simeon definitely tries feeding you at one point, laughing sweetly at your eagerness to take it from him.

Praise and worship
I finally figured out the meaning of the Standing Next to You MV!!
But first, did Kookie wax his pits or does he always have that landing strip of hair there?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, sorry for the immediate digression but you know it is imperative to dissect everything, even pit hair.
Back to the MV...
The opening scenes include this very non-inclusive sign:
Tumblr media
Only limos, no sportscars, SUVs, pick up trucks, family sedans or mopeds welcome here. They are keeping the riff-raff out. ONLY LIMOS THEY SAID CAN'T YOU READ THE SIGN?
Obviously makes sense when we see this dystopian scene where less than a dozen people are walking around inside some sort of derelict compound. A FORTRESS FOR ONLY THE STRETCH LIMO PREFERRING POPULATION!
Tumblr media
Incidentally, stretch limos represent 1 percent of the options available from limo companies in the U.S. (I googled it).
Amazing that they found this many in Budapest.
What was once a sign of affluence has now fallen on hard times... hence the decrepit dystopia pictured above.
Enter our female antagonist. Who does she represent? I'll get to that later...
Tumblr media
Our antagonist is antagonizing beautifully throughout but starts off antagonistically in her leather coatdress and 1980's heavy black eyeliner and bobbed hair. After all, the song is a throwback to that era of the late 70's/early 80's. All she is missing is the peach blush in the hollows of her cheeks. Hand me a Maybelline Blooming Colors Blush Palette and I'll fix it.
Then the dark angel makes his appearance. Ah, yes, sweet angel, come closer.
Tumblr media
I think he has come down or up from where ever dark angels habitate in order to correct an injustice... the injustice being the duck-billed cups of this atrociously antagonistic dress our antagonist is made to wear:
Tumblr media
For real... they couldn't find a better fitting dress? At least grab a roll of toilet paper and stuff those titty cups to fill them out? They are so sad and droopy looking... props to her Maybelline Expert Eyes Turquoise eye shadow though.
Tumblr media
I suppose the stacked pancakes... I mean bra cups... could have meant to be an homage to another 80's icon: Madonna and her cone shaped bra... but ... nah... try again. They look like hamburgers. Now I can't unsee it. So, so sad.
We do a lil spin and our protagonist spins himself up into a jewel encrusted, crotch grabbing, finger pointing master of his game.
Tumblr media
I think he's here to conduct a worship service.
It's time to be churched:
Tumblr media
Stretch limos (because no riff-raff remember?) enter the opening in a temple-of-Petra-like giant wall emblazoned with JK's sacred heart logo. Very symbolic.
In they go to gather for worship. Others sit in theatre seats while Ms. Antagonist sits on the car like a hood ornament.
Tumblr media
So... who is she and what's going on here?
No clue. She sits haughtily and antagonistically on her outdated stretch limo, while her little minions sit in the rows watching the object of their desire preaching the holy choreography.
However, Mr. Protagonist is about to really lay down the religion.
But first, gratuitous shot of Kookie prancing in heeled chelsea boots.
Tumblr media
Back to religion... the religion of Bangtan dance... one of these is not like the other.
Tumblr media
(*covers Hobi-hyung's eyes* Don't look its too painful.)
Did they not monitor this mess?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't meant to be disrespectful and I know these guys are some of the best dancers in the industry but next to Jungkook, they look like a herd of elephants. Just sayin'.
Anyway, Protagonist proceeds to become angry at the sloppy choreo and all the limo drivers gather for a gang-brawl in the middle of the church. Probably arguing over the spelling of chauffeur. I couldn't find an urban slang reference for limo, limousine or limo driver. I'm sure some exist but being the innocent thing I am, I don't know what they are.
Tumblr media
Mr. Protagonist brings down the wrath and puts the fear of Hobi into his crew:
Tumblr media
Then the climax of the whole darn thing: a dance break. Holy communion commences with serious thrusting into crotch grabs (some are enjoying it more than others):
Tumblr media
Service concludes and I wonder how many takes before they got one where Kookie didn't bust out laughing with his bunny giggle?
Tumblr media
But seriously, the MV does seem to be an homage to an era where Michael Jackson thrilled us with his brilliant music and dancing. Jungkook is continuing to pull us and BTS as a group along, forging new paths for them in the music industry. Like Kookie, I am anxious for them to reunite and get back on that stage together. And like Yoongi, I too believe they will devour the world.
(It's humor, y'all.)

Not beta read
[Series Masterlist][Main Masterlist]
It’s a little easier now since they let you sleep on the end, but it’s still a chore to roll out of bed with your heavily pregnant belly in tow. You sit on the edge for a moment trying to soothe yourself as the kicks come in quick succession.
You try as quietly as you can to make your way out of the bedroom, stealing a glance at Ben’s large form sprawled across Frankie in the most uncomfortable way.
You're wrapped up in your fluffy red robe, an early Christmas gift from the boys that you’ve been living in for the last month or so while you grow out of everything else you own.
The house is quiet and warm as you shuffle down the hallway and smells like cinnamon apples from the pies you made for Christmas Day.
A peek into the spare bedroom shows you a glimpse into most of your nights when it's Santiago’s turn to put the kids down for bed.
He’s snoring in the chair that sits between Camila and little Santiago’s beds. Both children slumbering away as they dream about the most exciting day of the year.
Some rustling is coming from the living room and you round the corner to a site that will never cease to make you smile. The boys take turns being Santa every year and they never do anything halfway. Your arms are crossed as you lean against the wall staring at the rich, dark red velvet material bent over in front of the tree. Deliberately placing gifts from the giant red bag in various spots.
You let out a low whistle as you make your way towards the bearded man. “Santa has a nice ass.”
He chuckles and stands gesturing with his arms for you to come to him. It’s a bit of a struggle now to be held but he still makes you feel all warm and fuzzy as you sway in the living room in front of the lowlights of the tree. You humm as he rubs your belly, somehow the kicking stops as if the baby taking up home inside knows whose hands are caressing you.
“How’s mama doing?” He asks as he kisses your neck, the fluff from his beard tickling you slightly.
“I’m tired…someone keeps kicking me.” You sigh into his touch as he drops to his knees, his fingers kneading that spot in your back that he knows pains you throughout the day.
“Hey little guy.” He speaks so softly in some adorable voice he’s made up.
“He’s a big guy, Will…a very big guy.” You know well enough having been told ad nauseum Miller babies are big.
“Hey big guy…I need you to give your momma a rest so she can enjoy tomorrow okay?” He holds his ear to your belly and nods. When he looks up at you all you can make out is those piercing blue eyes nestled between the red hat and white beard. “He said okay.”
A small tear escapes as he kisses your belly and stands again. You can’t even blame it on the hormones.
“Go lay down, I’ll bring you some tea when I finish here.” One last kiss to your lips and he’s shooing you away so he can complete his Santa duties and enjoy his peanut butter cookies special request.
  ****
Frankie stacks the pancakes high on the plate next to the stove, as he moves on to the eggs and bacon.
Ben hasn’t said a word just eyeing the food as you enjoy your morning tea, surprised the kids haven’t graced you with their presence yet.
Santi’s creaking bones enter the kitchen before he’s seen as he cracks his back in the hallway. Frankie laughs from the stove as he flips the bacon perfectly somehow never burning it.
“Laugh it up hermano.” He leans down and kisses your forehead before heading over to the fresh coffee pot.
“I’m not the one that keeps falling asleep in the chair.”
You hear the sound of hurried footsteps down the hallway as Camila quickly emerges into the kitchen beaming from ear to ear. She barrels into Frankie hugging him from behind as he reaches around and ruffles her long black curls. “Buenos Días papá.”
  “Buenos Días mi amor.”
Frankie kisses her forehead and she makes her way over to you and Santi to say her good mornings and receive hugs and kisses.
She climbs into Ben’s lap forgoing an open seat as she waits for breakfast to finish. The way the two of them could eat you were worried about welcoming another Miller into the household for lack of food resources.
“Good Morning daddy.” She wraps her little arms around him and it’s a feeling he’ll never get used to.
“Good morning honey.” She stole your nickname early on when she could look so sweet at them and instantly get her way.
There was a rule from the beginning that there would be no distinction unless medically necessary between the fathers. They were all fathers and that’s all that mattered.
“Sweetie, where's Santiago?” She looks slightly uncomfortable as she leans in and whispers something in Ben’s ear.
“He’s not coming?” Ben looks over to you as Santi looks to Frankie now done cooking breakfast.
She leans in again whispering something as Ben’s eyes widen. He has to bite his cheek to keep from laughing at the situation that he knows will need to be handled swiftly.
“He doesn’t want to open presents from a home wrecker.”
You’re grateful you hadn’t taken a sip of your tea or it would’ve been all over your new robe.
Frankie flicks off the stove and heads over to the table. “How do you even know that word, young lady?”
Ben leans in whispering something in her ear and she relaxes slightly.
“Well…ugh.” She’s in the hot seat by way of Santi much like her father often does to other people. You lay your hand on hers and wince slightly cursing this baby for picking the most opportune moments to make himself known.
“Camila it’s okay, you can tell me…you’re not in trouble.”
“Tia Marí said Tio John kissed a homewrecker and that’s why they’re not together anymore.” It comes out all rushed and flustered and you're trying not to giggle at her panicked confession.
Frankie points at Santi while he still looks on confused. “Your sister is off babysitting duty for a while.”
Santi scrubs his hand down his face. “I'm still not following.”
Ben places his hands over her ears so she can’t hear. “Will was Santa last night.” He grits out as she giggles.
Santiago must have woken up and seen you kissing “Santa”.
“Daddy I can’t hear anything.” He starts tickling her as she squeals in delight.
“Good because if you did, you wouldn’t get any presents.” They continue their giggles as you let out a long sigh.
“We’re gonna eat breakfast while you two go handle that.” Frankie starts serving up plates as Ben and Camila clap in excitement.
  ****
Santiago is face down in the blankets when you enter his room. He was a deep sleeper so it was pretty obvious when he was pretending. His little breaths are coming in shallow like he just ran here and plopped himself down.
You have a seat on the edge as Santi sits in the chair beside him.
Santi rubs his back hoping to calm him a little before he speaks. “Hey bud, you want to tell me what’s wrong?”
Inaudible mumbles come from the pillow and you bite down on your tongue at the mirror image. Payback for all the time Santi made someone chase him for a simple misunderstanding coming back ten fold.
“I didn’t hear you mijo, que pasó.” He slowly rolls him over as Santiago rubs his red eyes.
“I…don’t want…I don’t want.” He’s sniffling and Santi tries to calm him so he can catch his breath.
  “Deep breaths bud.”
He shakily inhales and wipes his little hands on the blanket. “I don’t want Santa to break up our home.”
You could kill Maria for almost ruining Christmas morning, but you know one day you’ll get to tell this hilarious story to your children when they’re all grown up. You let Santiago take the reins even though you did kiss Santa. This was not your mess to clean up.
“Santiago, no one is breaking up our home. I love your mama very much.” Santiago crawls over to you as you wrap him up in your arms, kissing his unruly brown locks.
“You promise?” Your heart breaks a little as those little puppy dog eyes look up at you.
“Yes we promise.” He exhales as he relaxes in your arms and you look up at Santi incredulously.
“Santa is my friend…he’s allowed to kiss your mama.” Santiago looks up at his dad with pure shock written all over his face.
“WHAT!” He balks at him as you burst into a fit of laughter.
“HO, HO,HO…” The boisterous sound echoes down the hallway from the living room.
Santiago scrambles off your lap as you fall back with an oomph. Your belly won’t allow anymore movements like that so you succumb to the comfort of his tiny car bed, as his father chases after him.
  ****
Camila is standing in front of the tree as Santa hands her the first gift.
“Well hello little boy, would you like a gift from Santa?”
He runs up to him with his hands on his hips as he pokes him in the surprisingly hard belly. “Next time just drop off the gifts and go.”
Will looks up confused by his son's words as Frankie and Benny are losing it in the kitchen.
Santi stands there in the same stance.
  “Don’t worry I’ll explain later.”

Garden of Lights
notes: for once, dottore decided to be romantic. I had this idea ever since I found out what the inside of the ruin golem looked like. dottore is possessing my brain at this point.
this work is part of the #marry a harbinger event
contains: dottore x gn!reader
prompt: the proposal
warnings: none

Out of the many words you associated with il Dottore, "romantic" had never been one of them. Many would describe him as cold or cruel. In the presence of others he seemed indifferent towards you. Yet what Dottore lacked in obvious displays of affection, he made up for in companionship.
His love for you showed in the little things he did. How, after a long day spent in his lab he'd join you on the sofa, reading a book with you and gently leaning against you as you could feel his tense muscles relax. Or that he was always looking out for your health; something he had never done for anyone else. How he went out of his way to buy you new pancakes at the bakery across the street when he burnt the ones he tried to make you for breakfast.
You'd exit your shared bedroom, still tired and talk to him while standing in the doorframe. "What's that smell?", you raised your eyebrows. "The usual", Dottore replied, calmly putting out the fire in the pan. "Arson?" "Breakfast."
"Hmm", you'd reply and go back to bed.
But today was different. The two of you were up early, as you were on a "business" trip in Sumeru and Dottore insisted he had something to show you. "Something" apparently required a very long hike towards Devantaka Mountain.
"Are we there yet?", you whined, trying to catch up with him. "What are you, 5?", he teased you and gave you an amused grin, "does a little walking make you this exhausted?" "If you turn it into half a marathon by having the speed of a feral Rishboland Tiger, yes it does", you sighed and Dottore laughed but slowed down instinctively to make sure you wouldn't overexert yourself. He'd let you hold his hand and decided as much as he wanted to get to the point of why you went on this journey in the first place, he'd let you take a look at the scenery and would try to make the hike enjoyable for you.
You eventually arrived at the giant Ruin Golem that decorated the landscape of the mountain. "Here we are", Dottore said proudly, "almost set this thing loose on the capital in my Akademiya days....ah, good times." You gave him a concerned look as he entered the giant machine with you. "Is this safe?", you asked, "like, a normal person's understanding of safe?" "Don't worry, I'm not going to activate it...", he said, "...not today at least." He guided you through the tunnel entrance until the two of you arrived in a huge dark space inside of the Ruin Golem.
Dottore used a switch on the side of the tunnel.
You suddenly saw the whole interior of the Ruin Golem light up. There were hundreds of small lamps that looked like they all had been attached to the metallic hall by hand. It was a beautiful sight, looking like some sort of industrial light garden. Did Dottore do this for you? This must have taken a ton of work....
You marveled at the fairy lights decorating the rusty stairs and walls and then turned to Dottore who had taken off his mask and was looking at you with an uncharacteristically gentle smile that you didn't get to see too often. You walked towards him and wrapped your arms around him, pressing your cheek against his chest. "This is beautiful, Dottore...", you smiled at him and kissed him lovingly, running your hand through his hair which you knew was an action he loved.
"Want to dance or something?", he asked casually but there was a hint of nervousness in his voice. Likely because this was so untypical of him that he didn't want you to tease him. "You're so romantic today", you remarked in surprise but took his hand nevertheless and thus his offer for a dance. "We can also terrorize a village with the giant robot if that's more on brand", he rolled his eyes and wrapped an arm around your waist. "Let's not do that", you chuckled and Dottore used what looked like a small remote. Music started playing in the background and he swayed to the music with you. He accidentally stepped on your feet a couple of times. "Do you have any experience with dancing?", you asked him. "I read a book, does that count?" "It does not."
You chuckled and tried to teach him a little until he was looking into your eyes, concentrating on the dance. You wondered what was going on in his mind right now, his facial expression was unreadable but he looked like he was analyzing the way you made him feel. He looked a little puzzled so you decided to test his reaction by giving him a soft kiss onto his lips. He didn't react at first. He just kept staring at your face.
Then he leaned in for another kiss, pressing his lips to yours and kissing you slowly but passionately. He pulled you closer to his chest and sighed into the kiss while his hand was caressing your cheek.
"So", you inquired after parting from him, "what's the occasion? As much as I adore all this, you have to admit it's a little unlike you." He shrugged. "I suppose you're right. Well, there's something I've been meaning to ask you."
He reached into the pocket of his coat to pull out a small box. He opened it to reveal an intricately designed silver ring to you. He didn't kneel down but it was still evident what he was trying to do. "I made it in my lab", he explained and looked into your eyes, "we've been together for a while now and I thought we might as well." He tried to play it cool as he was obviously unfamiliar with a situation like this and didn't really know how to approach asking you for your hand in marriage. "Will you marry me, y/n?", he asked quietly.
You nodded with tears in your eyes and pulled him into a tight hug, burying your face in his neck. Oh great, emotion, what do I do now?, Dottore thought and awkwardly patted your head. He put the ring onto your finger and gave you a forehead kiss.
"Thank you", he then said, avoiding eye contact, "for understanding me. For accepting me the way I am. And for letting me into your heart even though I'm...not easy to love." You cupped his cheek and smiled at him as you pressed another kiss to his lips. "You were an aquired taste, I admit that", you chuckled and ran a hand through his soft hair, "but I assure you, by now loving you is one of the easiest things for me to do."
You smiled down at the ring and ran your finger over it, reaching for the gemstone on it. Dottore swatted your hand away. "Careful that's the button for the scalpel."
You raised your eyebrows at him. "You included a scalpel function in my engagement ring?", you stared at him for a moment, "nevermind, why am I surprised, it's you." "Think of it as a self-defense mechanism", he shrugged.
You pulled him close again and let him hold you in his arms. "What now?", you asked quietly. "Well, we could stay here for a while. Or watch the stars on top of the machine", he squeezed your hand and grinned at you, "or we could-" "We're not activating this thing, Dottore."
"If that's your wish", he sighed and kissed your forehead, "can we use a ruin machine as our flower girl? Machines have a way better aim than children. Or Columbina for that matter." "Fine", you shook your head and leaned your forehead against his shoulder, "I love you, crazy."
Dottore chuckled. "Love you too."

Christmas at the Mansion (+ the castle)
I'm posting this now because I leave for a trip for the holidays tomorrow (and I don't know how my schedule will be), although I also have an old holiday scenario queued up for Christmas day :) If you celebrate anything, Happy Holidays, and if not, have a nice end of the year! I'll still be around to answer questions and post quotes and stuff at the very least.
Like with Thanksgiving, first and foremost, Slender is cooking and baking a fuck ton of food. But, he's got a lot more company in the kitchen this time as LJ, Candy, and Jason are all making a whole bunch of candy and cakes and other desserts as it's their time to shine. LJ actually has his own candy-pulling hook, and he makes homemade candy canes for everyone in whatever flavors they might want that year (they usually vote on them and he'll make a few batches), and everyone snacks on them while waiting for dinner to be ready.
I think they probably do Secret Santa in the mansion because there are just so many of them, and if they want to get an extra gift for specific people they're allowed to do that too, although those gifs are usually exchanged privately, although Slender gets at least one gift for every resident. They all get up early in the morning, and Slender will make a big yummy breakfast with pancakes, homemade cinnamon rolls, and hot chocolate for everyone, and they'll sit around the giant tree and exchange all the Secret Santa gifts. Some years they might do themes, but most of the time they just all try and get something that they think their person will enjoy. After they exchange those gifts, if anyone got an extra gift for specific people they usually pair off and exchange those.
After the gift exchange, it's Christmas movie time. They'll go into the big living room and they take turns picking Christmas movies to pass the time while Slender is making Christmas dinner. Everyone snuggles up with their hot chocolate and just relaxes, telling jokes and funny stories while they watch Christmas movies they grew up on, and it's fun for the creeps that were/are human to show movies to the demonic residents who haven't seen them yet. For lunch, Slender will usually have Tim prepare some food for everyone, and by that time the candy canes are usually ready so everyone snacks on those as well.
By the time dinner is ready everyone's excited and rushing into the dining room to have Slender's famous Christmas feast. Slender usually has his brothers and his mom over for Christmas dinner, Toby invites his mom over, and Natalie invites her younger brother. Everyone is happy to be surrounded by the family they love, especially since Mrs. Rogers and Slender's mom always bring extra dishes that taste so fucking good. It's one of the most lively dinners in the mansion because everyone's bantering and sharing stories about each other, and the room always fills with laughter and smiles. I think Slender's mom would probably also get gifts for all of the residents (and the extra guests) too, and she'd share them after dinner was over. After dinner, everyone normally just hangs out and plays video games or board games, especially if someone got a new one for Christmas, and they'll just spend time together laughing and having fun until everyone gets too tired to stay awake anymore.
On the other side of the Underworld, Zalgo also tries to have a Christmas for his employees as well. He and the best cooks of his employees will prepare a gigantic, lavish feast for all of the workers that reside in the castle, and they'll all eat together in the large dining room in the castle meant to fit all of them. Zalgo also takes care to provide a gift for all of his employees, and while he has well close to 100 including his castle and the employees of his assassination company, he makes sure to get them a gift they'll honestly enjoy. Of course, they always get him gifts as well, even if he tells them that he doesn't need them, but the blush and shy smile on his face at their generosity makes it worth it for them to do so. Zalgo will have to return to some work eventually, but he does his best to provide a good holiday to his workers, as he feels they deserve it for all of the hard work that they do.

xoxo,
J
Midnight Snack
Tumblr media
Shawn Mendes x female reader
Word Count: ~445
Warning ⚠️: fluff, maybe grammar error and maybe some punctuation errors.
Note: Phew 😮‍💨 it’s been a while since I last posted anything. I hope y’all love this little blurb ♥️
There was a gentle stir on the mattress as Shawn rolled onto your side more, his arm instinctively reaching for you, only for it to fall flat onto cold sheets where you were lying just moments ago.
His eyes slowly fluttered open, only to find the door to the bathroom dark with no light streaming from the inside; you weren’t there. And so he sleepily trudges around the house before eventually heading toward the kitchen.
There you were, as soft and lovely as ever while raiding for something to eat.
He leans against the kitchen door frame, observing how every cupboard is open and how you were looking like a bit of a culprit, rummaging through the fridge before closing it, not finding any tempting food items.
However, he didn’t pay attention to all that. His head is slightly tilted as he watches you, his eyes traveling down your body. He was distracted by you standing on your tiptoes; the fullest part of your butt peeks out from beneath the hem of one of his shirts.
Shawn had never seen anything so adorable yet completely and utterly sexy at the same time. He was so transfixed and continued to stare.
A smile spread across his lips as he stood there and stared at you for a second longer before slowly walking toward you. You didn’t notice his presence until he cleared his throat loudly and made his presence known.
“Need a hand?”
“Wha-what oh god, Shawn?!” You yell at him, “God, you scared me!”
“I’m so sorry, baby,” He chuckles, “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“It’s okay. Actually, could you give me a hand here?”
Shawn nodded, walked closer to you, “Here, I’ll hold the chair.” He braces you as you climb up, straining to reach the bag of flour.
“Got it?”
“Got it- - -.” you replied enthusiastically before, “Whoaaaa!” You suddenly lose balance, falling backward.
“Careful!”
As you flip, he reacts quickly and catches you in his arms, “Whoa!” You gasped, “Nice catch.”
“Normally, this looking for midnight snacks scenarios aren’t supposed to end up with one of us requiring medical attention.”
Both of you laugh at that, looking into each other’s eyes, and letting the moment linger.
“You know, you don’t need to show off how long you can lift me.”
“Oh. Right.” He chuckles, before deciding to put you down on the counter, “So…” He cages you against the counter, hands gently caressing your thighs, lips curved up into a smile and his hot breath fanning against the shell of your ear,”Pancakes?”
“Yes, please,” you grin slightly before planting a quick kiss on his ridiculous smirk face, “But, please don’t burn them, baby.”
“That was one time!”

I went back to middle school and sat in the hallway to watch my friends get chased by a giant mango rolling down the hallway, eventually it caught them and crushed them all into flat pancakes with faces.

I would wish it all away, if i thought tomorrow, they'd take you away
kinda nervous but first little ficlet thing on good old tumblr dot com
just 744 words of swiss being so incredibly in love with mountain and rain that it hurts
✭✭✭✭
under the cut or on AO3
if you were to ask "what would you change about your life?"
swiss would simply answer with a laugh and say nothing. which is true. so incredibly true.
why would he change anything in the first place? he already has everything her could possibly hope for.
every morning he wakes up next to the people he loves the most in his life. every morning he traces his thumbs over the spattering of freckles that adorn mountain's cheeks. every morning he plays connect the dots with the moles and rain's arms.
he wouldn't trade them for the world.
and when mountain eventually wakes up, swiss smiles and tells him good morning, giggles at his half conscious mumbling, and knows that it's gonna he a good day.
the two bask in the rays of sunlight peeking through the curtains for hours until rain finally rises from the dead.
swiss tells him good morning, kisses the tip of his nose, and smiles when that lavender hue spreads across the water ghoul's face.
mountain reaches over eventually, brushing the hair from rain's face before rain eventually rolls over to fetch mountain's glasses. and swiss smiles and the familiarity of their routine. smiles at the familiarity of his mates, curled up next to him, sunbathing in the morning rays.
coffee is the next most important thing on their list, after kisses of course. mountain grabs their mugs from the top shelf, specially hidden there so that a certain mr dewdrop ghoul cant steal them; while swiss grabs the coffee he knows rain would turn into a puddle without, the tea mountain made himself out of the flowers and herbs in his greenhouse, and hot chocolate for himself because he's already too awake for caffeine.
they all have it down to a science now. rain gets to use the coffee maker first. it's always been that way. swiss refuses to watch rain stand there all grumpy and tired when he has to wait to make his coffee.
only once the coffee is brewed and the princess is happy will swiss touch the machine. mountain watches the two work around each other in perfect harmony, content with just waiting for his water to boil on the stove instead of getting it from the coffee maker.
they all sit in silence afterwards, save for the occasional sniffle or tail thumping against the ground, sipping their chosen drinks in peace.
swiss loves mornings like this. when it's just them.
he still loves the others, of course. he cant go at least one day without terrorizing a grumpy little fire ghoul in the mornings. and he obviously will still reluctantly leave bed when he smells the signature scent of aether making pancakes. and who is he to deny cumulus a night of cuddling after a hard day of mindless ministry chores.
but it doesnt stop him from loving, needing, craving, mornings like these. morning where him, mountain, and rain just exist. mornings where he can curl up on the couch sandwiched between the two.
and even on days when he knows it's gonna be bad, he still won't deny mountain his snuggles or rain his kisses. and if he where to deny them of their wants, he knows they'll be waiting for him with open arms when he finally comes around.
because even on the days where nothing seems to go quite right, he knows that once he is in his favorite earth giant's arms, or his favorite siren's nest of pillows, everything will be fine.
so if you were to ask swiss what he would change about his life, he would say absolutely nothing.
even if you were to offer him the most appealing prize in the world, he would shake his head and move on.
swiss loves mountain, and rain, and his pack, and all the little things they do to piss him off, make him cry or smile.
he wouldn't trade his life even if it were to save the world.
but if it were mountain, or rain, or his pack, or his papa, then he would give all he could just to know that they would be okay.
because a world without mountain is a world without warmth. because a world without rain is a world without knowledge and beauty. because a world without his pack or his papa is dull and bleak. because a world without the ones he loves is a world that is not worth living in.

“My darling,” You groan softly, feeling someone stroking your cheek. “My heart, wake up, beautiful.” You roll over softly, groaning more as a large hand rubs your back and a tiny finger begins to poke your cheek.
“Mumma, wake up, mumma! Dada and I have food.” A soft giggle escapes your child. She presses her face against your cheek, blowing it with a kiss. “C’mon, mumma! Up! Up!” You smile, slowly opening your eyes, and you meet her wide beautiful eyes. You grab her and roll over, placing her onto your stomach and tickling her.
“Hiya, baby girl! Whatcha doing in here, huh?” You look down at her outfit and giggle as you notice the mock santa pyjamas. “Did your daddy dress you?” She nods, and her head falls back as you tickle her. Her tiny hands fall to your hands, trying but failing to push them away as your fingers dig into her chubby tummy. You bring her down closer to you, smothering her face with kisses, feeling her small hands rest on your cheeks. Your baby girl had her father’s eyes, making you love her much more.
“Dada and I made you food!” She smiles, planting a big wet kiss on your nose. “Said it was a special day!” She babbles before her head spins around and stares at her dad with wide eyes. Her chubby little hands lift as she waves at him. “Look! Mumma awake!” He chuckles, scooting closer to the two of you and pets her head.
“Good job, sweetheart.” He leans down and kisses her head, smiling widely at her. “Do you want to give mumma her food?” Ari feels his heart warm as she nods, making grabby hands, and he helps her hold onto the tray. “You did so well, sweetheart! I’m so proud of you.”
She blushes as they both turn and wait for you to sit up, placing the tray onto your lap. “Food for mumma!” You smile, place your hand on your daughter’s cheek and lean forward to kiss her forehead.
“Thank you, baby girl.” You look toward your husband, holding a hand out and placing it on his cheek. You smile as he nuzzles his cheek into your palm. “Thank you, my love.” You look down, smiling at the heart-shaped pancakes drizzled in maple syrup. A perfectly made coffee with foam shaped into a heart, a rose sitting next to the plate perfectly, and a piece of paper with a drawing of your family. You look up at your daughter, “did you draw this, baby girl?”
She smiles, nodding her head. You look back down and take in the crayon drawing of you and Ari holding each other’s hands, your daughter in the middle, with a giant smile, and she even included the elves, capturing their usual expressions in the drawing. “This is beautiful! I love it. Thank you, honey.” You squeeze her little hand before digging into your meal, simultaneously feeding the two other people in the room. As the three of you eat, you talk and laugh, listening to your daughter babble about her adventures with the elves.
Ari stares at you lovingly, and your eyes capture his as your daughter talks. A soft smile appears on your face, and you mouth ‘I love you’ to him, taking in his handsome features as the two of you continue to stare at one another. Once you had finished eating, Ari grabbed the tray and placed it safely to the side before lying down, opening his arms and letting you curl into him. You smile as your daughter curls into you. “Thank you both. I loved everything. Especially my drawing, I’m going to place it where everyone will see it.” You place a soft kiss on her head before resting your head back against Ari’s hairy chest, letting out a deep sigh as he strokes your sides.
“Dada got you presents too!” You hear a gasp followed by a loud ‘shh’, giggling as your husband and baby argue back and forth. “You did!”
“You weren’t supposed to say anything, bubs! It was supposed to be a surprise!” She lifts herself, staring at him with wide eyes. Her lips pout, giving him her best puppy dog look. “No, no. That will not work on me, sweetheart.” Her eyes widen more, lips pouting out. You giggle as you watch this unfold right before your eyes. “Ugh, fine. You win! But do not tell your mother what I got her, pinky promise?”
She grins, interlocking her pinky with his. “Promise, dada!”
You pout, blinking up at him with wide, innocent eyes. “Why can’t I know?” Ari groans, closing his eyes.
“No! No! Now, I know where she gets the look from! That won’t work on me. You’ll have to wait for tonight!”

“He’s looking at you again.”
“Let him,” you tell Maria, picking at your pancakes with your fork. It’s almost 10 PM and she took you out to eat breakfast for dinner, but it was enough incentive to get you out of the house after two weeks of no human interaction. That, and the fact that she’s paying. “He can stare all he wants, it’s not a crime.”
“Feels like one,” she shrugs, eyesight momentarily stuck to the corner of her eye where you know she’s scouting her target, her lips a tight, displeased line. “And your shoulders say otherwise, all up against your ears. You look like you’re waiting for the electric chair.”
You roll your eyes so hard it brings back to life the headache you’ve been nursing for the last couple of days. It had gently placed itself as a quiet dull in the back of your head and returns full force now.
The diner is half-empty– not an unusual occasion at this time of night, but the voices and laughter from fellow Jackson citizens only worsen the ache of the giant bruise that is your body right now.
“It would be a kinder fate, I think.”
Maria stands her ground, grimacing. “God, who even is this guy? When you said there was some bad history I thought you meant, like, a nasty ex. That man is looking like a cloud belongs permanently above his head.”
Who even is Tommy Miller? It’s a good enough question, one you never thought you’d have to answer in your life after the world ended.
You’d been in New York when the infected spread like wildfire across the country. There was barely enough time while running for your life to think about what might’ve happened to the Miller boys.
You hoped. By God, you hoped like you rarely dared these days that Joel, Tommy, and Sarah made it out safely. Guilt swallowed you whole the second you thought about it for too long.
You relinquished any rights you had on them when you abandoned them. You ran out of Austin with your tail between your legs and cut off all contact with them, one last futile attempt to put Tommy’s life back together.
Why are you being so fucking difficult?
I’m done watching you wreck your life, Tommy. I’m not picking up again tonight, or ever. Call Joel.
The first time you saw Tommy Miller again after two decades you were too in the throes of a panic attack to believe he was real.
It wouldn’t be the first time you confused the sight of a stranger for your long-lost friend. Freckles on fair skin, cow eyes so brown they could be black and broad shoulders under jean jackets; they’re more common than you’d think.
But they always turn around and the illusion always breaks. It’s your designed personal penitence, to chase after the man that knew how to hurt you better than anyone in your life, and that you let because you loved him. Love, still. Time and distance and the fucking apocalypse weren’t enough to diminish what you’ve always felt for Tommy Miller.
You loved him even when you left him. It’s why you left him, even if it killed you in the process.
But this time it was him. Along with a group of newcomers, he stumbled across Jackson and you found yourself trying to blink away the sight of a ghost in the town square to no avail. His expression was tight and distrustful, so Joel it created a vacuum of longing in your belly even through the panic.
And fuck, man, Joel. The last time you talked to Tommy was the last time you talked to his brother, too. A call right after you hung up on the youngest Miller that had him using all the curses available in his vocabulary on his brother’s name.
How many times has he done this to you?
Too many.
Fucking dumbass. Hope you keep ‘im in the doghouse a little longer this time.
I’m serious, Joel, I’m not picking after him again.
Joel had tried to convince you otherwise, but you both knew his heart wasn’t in it. You’d both witnessed Tommy’s mishaps once too many times and he knew dropping Tommy wasn’t a decision you’d make lightly.
Because it meant dropping him as well, and Sarah. It meant giving up on the realest family you had, most likely for good.
He’s gonna hate this. I think that boy would rather lose an arm than lose you.
He can live without me, Joel.
No, he’d said, oddly solemn, like he knew something you didn’t. No, he can’t.
But he’d been wrong. Here Tommy was, stumbling into your life as if he hadn’t left it at all. He'd locked eyes with you across town like the sea of curious citizens peering at the dirty strangers from outside town didn’t exist.
Even if it hadn’t been him those thousand times you thought you saw him, in your mind Tommy was everywhere: dead in some shallow common grave in Austin, turned and without any control over his body with a bite scar on his arm, running for his life with a gun in his hand and Joel by his side, hiding behind the alcohol like he’d been doing the last time you saw him.
The possibilities were endless and terrible, but they hadn’t killed you yet.
The way Tommy’s face fell in realization almost did. You’d rubbed at your eyes and strained your eyesight as best you could, but the hallucination refused to fade. He was still there, standing tall, weary and tired and hopeful.
He’d opened his mouth, the shape of your name already on his lips when you turned around and ran for your life back into your house. Your lungs didn’t fill with a full breath until you turned all the locks and leaned against the door, heart hammering against your ribs and nausea crawling up your throat.
As if Tommy would chase after you, knocking on your door and demanding something from you, or maybe just to be mean about the same things he’s always held against you.
But he hadn’t. Hiding worked. You didn’t hear anything from him or about him from Maria, so you stood your ground. You didn’t even throw a fit when she came to force you into the shower so you could have dinner together, only to avoid more questions you couldn’t answer.
Who is he? You looked like the Grim Reaper was walking into town, do you know him? Did he hurt you? I swear to God, if he did he’s not staying, hon, I promise–
An old friend, was the explanation you’d settled on, the biggest understatement of your life. We grew up together and went our separate ways way before the outbreak. Wasn’t really a clean break.
Maria took it, albeit hesitantly, and the worried glances she’d been sending your way in the diner grew tenfold when Tommy walked in. He sat at the bar and ordered a drink with a piece of pecan pie. Something in your heart clenched when the waiter put a colorful drink in front of him and Tommy poured it down without even blinking.
So what if he’s drinking, still? It’s why you walked away from him, isn’t it? If your ultimatum meant nothing to him then that’s not your problem, even if it makes something sorrowful and ugly bloom in your belly.
You look away just as he turns his head towards your booth so he doesn’t catch you looking. Instead, you catch him more than a handful of times, his gaze hot and piercing.
It’s always been unnerving, being under his careful eye.
“I don’t think he’s gonna stop.”
Fuck, you think. “Then I will,” you sigh in mourning for your nice evening and hit the table lightly with your fist as you stand. Maria hisses your name and goes to grab your arm but you’re already walking towards Tommy. The next time he sneaks a look he finds you closer than expected.
You would laugh at the look on his face if this were funny at all.
It’s not funny. Whatever bravado you might’ve put on in front of Maria is fake and gone by the time you reach Tommy’s side. He annoyingly smells of cologne, somehow a charming like hell scent even in a post-apocalyptic world.
“You’re staring,” is your opener, less annoyed than you intended and a little bit too breathless, but a truth all the same.
The asshole has the decency to look amused, eyes glinting, and that terrible mustache he’s acquired since he got here moves in a way that indicates he’s smiling and trying to hide it.
“Hello to you, too,” he says, and the roughness of his voice sends thrills of warmth down your belly. He both did and didn’t speak like this twenty years ago, a harsher edge to his tone that you credit to the terrible decades spent between then and now. But underneath it all there’s something so indescribably Tommy that leaves you incredibly out of your depth for this moment.
“Hey, Miller,” you say with a roll of your eyes at his sarcasm, but the greeting comes out too soft, too honest. You feel like the knots of anxiety inside of you are about to snap from how tightly they are woven. “You’re staring. It’s freaking Maria out.”
“Sorry to Maria,” he says without sounding even merely apologetic, and your heckles rise so quickly you’re practically blindsided. It starts with a few cute quips and ends with him calling you to pick him up from the bar fight he’s lost this time, breath reeking of tequila. “You look good.”
He checks you out slowly, brown eyes full of intent and lacking subtlety. It feels like you’re facing a shooting battalion, waiting for them to deem you guilty.
There’s nothing suggestive or mean about it. It’s almost kind– wistful in a way you don’t remember him being. You're just having a casual conversation, even if there’s nothing casual about this encounter.
“So do you,” you say for lack of anything else, his honesty catching you off guard. His eyes fly to your face and scrutinize you like he’s trying to make sure you mean it. Whatever conclusion he reaches makes his smile widen, even if just by a little. “Can’t say I’m not surprised, though. Thought you would’ve moved on from Jackson by now.”
He shrugs, turning back to stare at his empty glass, still angling his body toward you where he’s sitting on a worn-out stool. “You don’t find this a lot these days.”
“Civilization?”
“Community,” his eyes twinkle, and, really, Jesus Christ, what’s up with the lights in this place? The man looks like a live-action Disney prince, all combed hair and bright eyes. “Reminds me of home, almost. And, well.”
He doesn’t say it, and you’ve long stopped trying to figure out what he keeps to himself, but you know what you want it to be. You’re too familiar with the way he stops himself from saying stuff he means– especially if it's kind. He’s saving himself the bashful blush that comes after but you desperately wish to hear it anyway.
And, well. You’re here, too.
He clears his throat when you only nod in response, silence stretching between you painfully. “Can I buy you a drink?”
It’s your turn to bite back your words. A firm, offended fuck no rests on your tongue, and swallowing it back down feels like gravel against your throat.
He’s trying, you guess.
You wordlessly sit on the stool next to him, careful not to touch him even on accident. Nodding at the waiter, you say, “I’ll have whatever he’s having,” intertwining your hands nervously and feeling somewhat victorious for getting anything out.
The waiter nods, tilting his head in question. “Non-alcoholic alright?”
You blink, once again losing the slight footing you’d found just now. You don’t turn towards Tommy, but you feel him shift in his seat, silent.
“I- yeah, sure.”
He nods and walks away, and you and Tommy sit in silence until he comes back to place a glass in front of you. You reach for it only to busy your hands but don’t drink from it. Anything you might take is only gonna come back up eventually out of sheer nervousness.
Tommy speaks after a beat. The anxiety in your belly keeps pushing further. “You could’ve ordered something else if you wanted. Maybe with a little more kick?”
“I don’t mind,” you promise dryly. “I, uh. I don’t drink, really. Like, at all.”
“Me either, if you can believe it,” it surprises you enough that your head turns to him in disbelief. Tommy’s already looking at you with an expression you can’t name but unsettles you all the same. He smiles at whatever he sees in your expression, gently amused. “I know. Joel made the same face when I told him I wanted to quit.”
The mention of the eldest Miller would bring you to your knees had you been standing up. “Joel. Is he…?”
You trail off but Tommy catches your meaning and his amusement dissolves.
“Alright,” Tommy confirms with a nod, taking a sip of his drink and running his tongue over his lips after, chasing the flavor. He looks suddenly stricken, but like he’s had enough of that emotion that his features have grown accustomed to it. “As much as he can be, I guess. We... lost Sarah the day all hell broke loose.”
Whatever relief had filled you is immediately displaced by nausea. Closing your eyes tightly doesn’t stop the tears from burning or the wave of grief from washing over you.
“Fuck,” you say through feelings that are now stopping you from breathing freely. “Fuck, Tommy, I’m so sorry.”
“I am, too,” he says, quiet and thoughtful and familiar. Fuck, so fucking familiar that it both soothes and shakes you even further. You feel him move again, and open your eyes to find his hand closer to yours on the counter than it was a second ago, not touching you but offering some weird sort of comfort nevertheless. “I know you loved her. She loved you, too. So much.”
Love is an understatement. You’d been the fourth person to ever hold her after her parents and her uncle, and she had you wrapped around your finger the second she held it tightly in her tiny, baby fist. You watched her first steps and her first words, went to her first soccer game and gossiped about her first crush. Nursed her first heartbreak when the men in her life were too out of depth to really help.
She’d been your family as much as Joel and Tommy had been. Any issue you had with Tommy had nothing to do with his niece or his brother. You’d hoped; stupidly, blindly, selfishly, that she’d made it even if this was never the world you wanted her to grow up in.
“God, all this time…” you cut yourself off and fight the urge to reach for his hand and intertwine your fingers. You’ve never missed him from this close. “I mean– it was always a long shot, but I thought. I hoped… If anyone…”
“I know,” he acknowledges, fingers twitching. He lets a moment pass before he says, tentatively– “I hoped for you, too.”
It would’ve hurt you less if he had insulted you. At least it would’ve been expected.
“Tommy–”
He calls your name as he finally puts his hand on top of yours, pleading. It’s too warm, sweaty, and firm on your skin, and you pull it off the counter swiftly before he can do anything stupid like squeeze it. You stand, distraught, and Tommy follows suit.
“Sweets, please–”
“Don’t,” you snap, harsher and louder than you mean to, earning yourself unwanted attention from a few curious eyes in the diner. Maria, on the other side of the room, is standing and eyeing you worriedly.
Her eyes say blink twice and I’ll kick his balls but even her support is too much. The world blurs around you and Tommy’s words from forever ago echo along with the blood pumping in your ears.
Don’t be like that, sweets. You can act all high and mighty next time, alright?
God, you can’t do this. You left a small town once to avoid this exact confrontation. Maybe it’s finally time to leave Jackson and this is God laughing in your face, screaming at you to go.
“This isn’t what I came for,” you say to the universe, to Maria, to Tommy, to whoever’s listening and is kind enough to get you out of your misery. “Just– stop it with the staring, alright? You can have my drink if you want.”
Tommy looks desperate and more unkept than he had a minute ago. His hair’s a mess even if he hasn’t even reached out to touch it, and the twinkle in his eye is made out of urgency rather than charm.
“Sweets–”
“Fuck off,” you bite, eyesight blurry with unshed tears of frustration. Tommy reels back a little. He wasn’t expecting any aggression from you. “I don’t want you to call me that.”
“I’ve always called you that,” Tommy’s brow furrows in honest confusion.
“Yes,” you say, because to you it’s as clear as glass cutting into your skin. “Yeah, that’s the fucking problem, Tommy.”
You can’t bear to look at him. How dare he be hurt about this after what he did? After breaking your heart, using your feelings against you, and then holding a grudge for two decades when you decided you weren’t gonna let him do that shit to you?
You leave the diner with those words, ignoring both Tommy and Maria calling after you. Only one of them tries to follow but you’re not in the mood to entertain either of them, even if Maria has nothing but good intentions.
God, those free pancakes weren’t even worth it.
Tumblr media
You hide at home again.
You hate that this is what its come to. Even if Jackson has become your home you’re the one who has to hide away because Tommy decided to parade in without a fucking care in the world.
It’s weird, you spent years trying to live with your guilt over ending your friendship the way you did, even if it was for the better, but now that he’s back you feel nothing but anger.
Anger over him putting you in a position like that. Anger about his own anger and inability to see how badly you were trying to put his safety over your friendship. Anger about ending up here anyway: breaking yourself in two for his sake.
Some things never change, apparently.
The weekend comes and goes after your valiant escape from the diner and this time there’s nothing Maria can say or do to get you to go out again. She leaves some groceries at your doorstep because she’s a fantastic friend, but after blatantly refusing to answer her questions about Tommy she leaves you alone, wearing a disappointed mother-like frown.
You’re trying and failing to read a book one of your neighbors lent you when there’s a knock at the door. Believing it to be Maria you stay rooted in your spot on the couch, knowing she’ll give up eventually.
Except the knocking doesn’t stop.
It doesn’t grow more insistent or lose its intensity, but rather keeps its steady rhythm; three knocks, a moment or two of silence, and then repeat. It gets on your nerves sooner than later and you’re jumping off the couch to make it stop, clad in your pajamas and fuzzy socks that almost got you shot when you were bargaining for them half a decade ago.
By the time you reach the door, you’re about to pull your hair out. Maria’s name is on your lips when you come face to face with Tommy, his fist still raised mid-knock.
“Don’t close the door,” he rushes to say, hand settling on the frame just in case you decide to do it anyway. “I just want to talk, please.”
“What the fuck,” you answer out of mere surprise, body coiled tight as you try to keep your body language to a minimum. Any sudden movements and he’ll invite himself in, and then you really won’t be able to keep the line drawn between your past and your life here. “There’s nothing to talk about, Tommy.”
“Like hell, there isn’t,” he says with enough annoyance that you blink, reeling back a little. Finally, a taste of the Tommy you were expecting, short and mean and careless with your heart.
It’s almost a relief– the sweet facade was too good to be true and you didn’t believe it for a second. “We were friends once, or did you forget? And now you can’t even be in the same room as me for more than twenty minutes. I’m sure we’ve both got more than enough to get off our chests, sweets.”
“Don’t–”
“Don’t call you that, yeah, sorry,” he mimics your outcry from the other night, but he shrinks a little at the reminder, shoulders to his ears. It’s an honest enough apology that you refrain another biting comment from leaving your mouth. “See, I’d get a chance to understand why you hate it so much if you just talked to me–”
“I don’t want to fight with you, Tommy,” you say, more honestly than you mean to. He keeps pulling the truth out of you despite your best tries to give him as little insight into yourself as possible.
It comes out tired– reminiscent of the resignation you used to pick up the phone with whenever Tommy called late at night.
“And I’m not here for that,” the way he’s meeting your gaze leaves you unable to look away. You automatically preen under the warm, molten brown of his eyes. “But I– you owe me some kind of explanation–”
“Jesus,” you laugh, the sound loaded with incredulity. Just when you think you know what to expect from him… “That’s really fucking rich, Tom, really, so much for not fighting–”
“You’re the one who insists on making everything a godforsaken argument–”
“Listen to what you’re saying to me!” you exclaim a little too loudly, catching the attention of some of your neighbors and shit.
Motherfucking shit, you have no other choice but to grab Tommy’s stupid flannel in your fist and pull him inside your home away from prying eyes. You close the door behind you and turn back to him, fire at your tongue. “Fucking listen to yourself, Tommy! What the fuck would I owe you after everything–”
“Listen, just because you don’t like me anymore–”
“I don’t like you?” you say incredulously, stopping mid-path to the kitchen and trying to come to terms with Tommy standing in your home looking like he’s meant to be here. “Tommy, I mean this with the most respect I am capable of mustering for you right now, but are you high?”
It’s the sort of thing you would’ve told him when you were younger, unapologetically calling him out on his shit in the most picturesque way possible. Tommy’s eyes brighten with something– not quite glee, not quite fury– and he leans closer to you almost automatically, muscle memory pulling at strained, rusted pieces of him that are now awakening in your presence.
“Fuck off,” he snaps, but there’s something resigned about it. He presses at his temples with his thumb and index finger, hand calloused and steady and too familiar for you not to ache for his touch.
“You’re the one who dropped me like it was nothing,” he accuses. All the fight leaks out of him, leaving him curved inwards and small. “Like you weren’t my best fucking friend, like I– like I was always just– pulling you down, or some shit. Like you were just waiting for the right excuse to get rid of me.”
The words are a gut punch on their own but the way he says them– like he’s been thinking them to be true ever since you left– almost floors you completely.
You say, “Tommy,” and you can’t help it. Some instinctive part inside of you has come back to life and doesn’t know anything other than his name. “Tommy, are you being serious right now?”
“Do you know why I haven’t had a drop of alcohol in over a decade?” he demands, looking straight into your fucking soul as he waves his hands around, trying to make a point. “Because after the world went to shit all I could think about was you. I thought of you, dead and mad at me, and I wanted to be wrong about that more than I wanted to drink.”
Jesus. Jesus fucking Christ.
“You left me behind,” he says, an accusation, but it comes out too quiet for it to really be angry.  “And you just… moved on. Moved away. It felt like everything we went through meant nothing to you.”
You gape. The silence echoes in your ears along with the rapid beat of your heart and your blood rushing to your brain as you make sense of what he's saying.
“It meant everything to me,” you admit eventually, the weight of your decision still making your shoulders ache after all these years. “Jesus, Tommy, don’t you get it? That’s why I had to leave. It killed me to watch you fade away like that. And to think I was… aiding and abetting, somehow–”
Tommy shakes his head, stubborn. “The drinking wasn’t your fault–”
“You called me every fucking time,” you interrupt, voice hard.
There’s little softness about the whole thing. He was your friend and you failed him by cutting him off and not being there when he needed you, but he wasn’t exactly pulling his weight. It was you on your own trying to maintain a friendship he wasn’t interested in saving.
“At one point I only heard from you when you needed me to bail you out. I got to know more about the sheriff on guard than about your own life. It wasn’t fucking fair, Tom. To either of us.”
Tommy doesn’t have an answer for that, arms crossed and glaring at your kitchen floor. His jaw quivers with emotion but his fluttering brows tell you it’s not anger. You know what he looks like when he’s trying not to cry.
“I was a reminder of everything wrong with your life,” you continue, quieter, softened by his lack of retort and the absence of any fight. “I was stopping you from moving on by coming every time you called. As long as I came to get you you’d keep getting shitfaced. Driving drunk, getting into fights, hurting the people you loved. I couldn’t keep doing that to you.”
“Hurting you,” Tommy says, meeting your eye. There’s only a table between you now, but you’ve never felt further apart from him, and that’s saying something. “All that time, I was hurting you.”
You look away in embarrassment, even though there’s nothing about the statement that warrants it. “And Joel and Sarah. Your mom. But yeah. Yeah, you were hurting me.”
Tommy sighs. He’s looking every one of his years and reaching for one of your chairs, sitting like his body can’t hold him up anymore, his vices calling to charge their fees.
You ask, curious, grief-stricken: “What happened to you, Tommy?”
“I don’t know,” he says, lost, the sound of his voice bordering on a break. He’s crying now, you realize, not shedding tears but trying to keep himself together and failing. “I don’t know, I was just so… angry. About everything. After I was discharged everywhere I saw, it was all red.”
You close your eyes at the mention of 22-year-old Tommy, some baby fat still clinging to his changing face that was hardened by his experience overseas. You’d gone with his family to pick him up from the airport, and he’d clung just as tightly to you as you did him when you ran to meet him on the tarmac. Your lungs had finally, finally filled with a full breath now that he was back home with you, but something was off and you knew it the second you saw him.
His shoulders remained tense all throughout your embrace and the ride home. He was quiet during the welcome party in his mom’s house, and later you spent hours on his porch until the sun came back up again. Whatever it was, he hadn’t wanted to talk about it.
You don’t want to hear about all that, he’d promised, arms around his legs and cheek laying on his knee, gaze on you and far away at the same time. Trust me, sweets, I’d take this fucking heat and some Willie Nelson over army shit every time.
“I don’t know when I realized drinking made it easier,” he goes on, and you wonder if he’s stuck in the same memory as you. “I could be as angry as I wanted to and still not feel a damn thing. And I didn’t care who paid the price of it. I didn’t care about anything.”
“That night, though,” he says, expression turning wary as if expecting you to make a run for it. You’ve tried to the last two times you came face to face with him, but you’re too tired now. You’ve picked too much at this scar to do anything other than let it bleed. “When you hung up on me, it all came rushing back. Everything I’d been tryin’ to avoid just crashed into me. Hurt a hell of a lot worse than the broken nose did.”
Your surprise bypasses your quiet grief. “You broke your nose?”
“It got broken,” he pulls a sour face that almost makes you smile. He rubs the crooked slope with his index finger, thoughtful. “Not that I didn’t deserve it, but I’m pretty sure Collins had had it against me since high school.”
You snort. You remember who he’s talking about– one of the officers you had to befriend in the hope he’d let Tommy go with a warning a few dozen times. He’d been a skinny kid with braces and a hero-like worship for the younger Miller before he graduated and signed up for the Academy.
“I’m not angry anymore,” he admits, and you don’t realize how much that statement means to you until your next breath comes a little too easy, fills your chest the way air hasn’t for twenty whole years. “After the world ended, being mad about something like this felt…”
You try to help when he trails off. “Insignificant?”
Tommy’s smile is small but real, fond. “I was gonna say ‘stupid’, but yeah.” He nods at you, wistful. “Yeah, you’ve always been better at words than me. Better in every sense, really.”
You soften again against your will. “Tommy.”
“Sorry,” he shakes his head, wiping some stray tears neither of you realized had fallen. He’s not gentle about it, and you itch to reach for his hands and do it yourself, remind him that the world has punished you both for long enough to have him be so rough on himself.
“It’s different now. Being sober,” he continues, nervous. He’s tapping the table, bouncing his knee, biting his cheek– a checklist for anxious tics. “Trying to get through the end of the world without booze was shitty as hell.”
He continues, ashamed– “I, uh, I fell off the wagon more times than I’d like. Definitely more than I can excuse, even with everything that’s happened.”
Guilt swells inside you and you’re unable to dial it back. You left him. He was in trouble without a way out and your response to that was to leave him.
Even if you’d been right to do it, even if you indirectly saved his life, you’ve always been honest with yourself about how much it haunted you. It’s a small, worthless comfort, how the right choices usually don't feel so.
“You kept calling me,” it escapes your mind without your consent, but now that you’ve put it out there you can’t stop thinking about it. “I didn’t pick up, but you kept calling at first. Always after midnight, always drunk. Always in trouble.”
You meant what you said when he first came in, you don’t want to fight, but you’ve spared his feelings at your expense for too long now, and you need to know. You never thought you’d get the chance to ask, so you have to. Even if Tommy hangs his head like he’s preparing for the guillotine, you need to lay this to rest now. For your sake.
“I know,” he says, soft and regretful.
“And then you stopped,” you recall, the hurt so vivid it’s still present, still clutching at your heart after all this time. “When you realized I was of no use to you, that I wouldn’t come to bail you out–”
He says your name painfully.
“I never stopped liking you, Tommy,” you tell him, a secret to apparently no one but him. “I love you. I’ve always loved you. It wasn’t me who stopped caring.”
“Me either,” he says, suddenly firm, looking up at you with a gaze made of steel that doesn’t leave any room for argument. You wrap your arms tighter around yourself as you lean against the counter, its edge jamming almost painfully against your back. “Please tell me you know that. I was a dick and I’m owning up to that but God, please tell me you know how much you mean to me.”
Mean, he says, your mind stuck like a broken record on the present tense as if you hadn’t told him you still loved him just a moment ago. Still, still, still.
You open your mouth but nothing comes out, literally having been rendered speechless. Tommy’s expression shatters.
“Sweets,” it’s a small, tender thing, but he corrects himself immediately even if you don’t complain this time. You’re too stricken by the turns of this conversation to do anything about it. He says your name and you pretend it doesn’t kill you, laughing to himself with every loaded emotion except humor. “God, I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. I fucked everything up, didn’t I?”
Your answer gets stuck in your throat. You don’t like any of the possibilities, saying either yes or no would be a lie. There are no absolutes in this, nothing crystal clear about this thing between you.
He reads your hesitation and watches you sit opposite to him like he’s exchanging words with a haunting, distrusting and hopeful all the same.
“We were– we were good, though,” he says, like a question, voice dry. He sounds so different from the last time he asked something of you, and the dichotomy is a little too much for you to handle. “Weren’t we? For a while there, before we– I… we were good, right?”
You do the unimaginable and reach out your arm, palm up. Tommy looks at it and you back and forth, like he expects you to laugh in his face, but eventually he meets you halfway and intertwines your fingers together.
Your tears clog your throat. There are so many things you wish had happened differently. “Yeah, Tom,” you say, benevolent. “We were really good.”
His smile is sad and fleeting but his hand is tight around yours. You sit in silence on your kitchen table as the light drains from the sky, but neither of you make a move to leave or turn on the light.
Tumblr media
Your life goes on. Surprisingly, with Tommy in it.
It’s an adjustment, for sure. After your heart-to-heart, he promises he’ll stick around in Jackson indefinitely, but it’s still a shock every time he comes by to pick you up for lunch. With his hands behind his back and bouncing nervously on his tippy toes, he looks like he’s about to ask your mom if you can come out to play after you finish your homework.
It freaks you out. The first time he walks you home after an awkward, stilted late morning at the diner your mind bombards you with worse-case scenarios:
Tommy leaving town without telling you, Tommy relapsing after two consecutive hours in your company, Tommy avoiding you around town for the rest of your days as if you hadn’t talked things out at all.
But he comes back. Two days later and then the week after that and so on. Both your social skills slowly but surely begin to defrost and before you know it, you’re seeing each other almost daily for periods of time too long for mere acquaintances.
You’re friends again. Still, he insists as he puts his jacket around your shoulders because a fifteen-minute walk before dinner became a three-hour talk about your years apart. We’re friends, still. I missed you every second I wasn’t with you whether I realized it or not. You were what was missing, sweets.
Today, Tommy stares at you from the other side of the room, gaze clever and unashamed, and something inside you is filled to the brim, satisfied and content.
“He’s looking at you again.”
“Let him,” you say to Maria through the rim of your glass.
She rolls her eyes in good nature and locks her arm around yours. Thus begins the slow walk around the room that inevitably ends, as everything in your life seems to, at Tommy’s side.
She’d been the one who told you to invite him. It was her party, her choice, a private but grander-than-usual affair under the excuse that not many folks get to turn 40 these days. You knew Tommy knew about it because everyone in town did, but he didn’t talk about it until you brought it up yourself after a night together.
Sunlight had been streaming gently through the curtains that swayed with the spring air coming through the window. You’d blindly picked up the closest garment of clothing you found on the floor before you went down to make breakfast.
Tommy had taken one look at you in his shirt and intercepted your path before you could leave the bedroom, hand pulling you back into bed and, consequentially, into his lap.
He’d smiled as you wrapped your arms around his neck and it was like the years vanished between you. You were young again and at the receiving end of Tommy Miller’s honest, boyish charm. Mornin', sweets.
Except you never had this before. Getting Tommy back as a best friend had been one thing, but venturing into this new chapter meant jumping in blind with only his hand in yours to guide you.
He kissed you for the first time– since last time, of course– one early morning after patrol. He settled into the routine of it quite nicely, and he became your partner for it without complaints from, anyone, really.
Stop me if you don’t want to, he’d said, close enough that his eyes were turning from side to side to stare into yours, half-lidded. It was such a callback to the last time that you had to blink several times just to check it wasn’t a dream. But when he finally cut the distance between you you realized it couldn’t be– your dreams never ended like this.
Your dreams ended, but this didn’t. Tommy cupped your head tenderly yet with an intensity that hadn’t been there three decades ago. He licked into your mouth the second you shuddered and clung to the back of his jean jacket, heart hammering inside your chest.
He’d kept his eyes tightly closed after you pulled away, out of breath and high on giddiness, his hands protecting your face from the biting, winter wind.
You good in there, handsome?
Don’t wanna find out you aren’t real. I’ve dreamt about this, I’ll have you know.
You started the kiss then just for that, the thought of Tommy yearning after you like you did him during your time apart driving you a little too crazy.
So it’d been so easy, in the end, to let things progress the way you hadn’t had a chance to after high school. Within the year he was waking up at your place most mornings, coming over for dinner, and sinking into you when you wrapped your arms around him from behind, your temple against his back.
What does a guy gotta do to get you to come home early tonight?
You know you’re invited, right? You can come with me instead of moping around. Maria said so and everything.
I don’t know. I don’t think she likes me that much still–
Bullshit–
–and I wouldn’t wanna embarrass myself askin’ for water all night. He’d rubbed your back tenderly, slowly, up and down strokes while you tangled a strand of his hair around your finger, meaningless touches full of meanings. You go have fun, baby, alright? I’ll stick around for the night and see you after.
You understood and trusted him fully about it, of course. But you still couldn’t help yourself and dialed your home number during the party, hoping to catch him before he fell asleep waiting for you.
You can swing by if you want, you said into the phone, smiling at the sound of Tommy’s voice through the receiver and feeling a little too hot under the collar. Party’s practically over.
Am I gonna be peer pressure’d into party activities? Or do they know about my… situation?
It was a joke, but you could recognize the undertones of tension from miles away.
Yeah, honey, they know you’re sober, you soothed. I mean it, you don’t have to if you don’t want to, alright? But if you change your mind I’ve got some orange juice with your name on it. And Jamie’s kids’, but still. We’d be glad to see your face.
And so here you are. Maria giving you off to Tommy like one would deliver a bride at a wedding, stepping into his open arms and feeling something settle inside of you that’s been restless for over half your life. This love, this domesticity, you never thought you’d get to experience it, let alone with Tommy.
You never thought you’d ever be this happy.
“I’m watching you, Miller,” Maria says fake menacingly as she points two fingers to her eyes and then at Tommy as a warning. “Both of you, hands above the waist, please. Keep it PG for the kiddos, would you?”
You wave her away with a loud, “Thanks, Maria. Bye, Maria,” that has her cackling with laughter all the way to her next conversation.
“Fancy meeting you here,” Tommy jokes, and any undernotes of nervousness left are washed away when you glue yourself to him, your sides touching. “You enjoyin’ yourself, sweetheart?”
You hum an affirmative, leaning your head on his shoulder. “More now that you’re here.”
Tommy grins down at you. “Aren’t you a charmer?”
You smile back slyly. “I learned from the best. You alright?”
The sigh he lets out is big but honest, looking around the room with curiosity rather than like a caged animal looking for ways out. “It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Everyone’s actually really nice.”
“Told you,” you quip.
“Yeah, yeah, you’re always right,” he rolls his eyes in good nature, shifting so he’s got his arm wrapped around you. “Last time we were at a party together I had to be the jealous boyfriend.”
“I remember,” you do, Tommy twenty-five years younger with his arm around you just like this, a tad more possessive. It's been getting progressively easier to talk about the past and not be overwhelmed by it, and you're glad. It wasn't all bad. “Gotta be honest, honey, I like the real thing a whole lot better.”
You’d never seen him smile so much when you were younger. These days it’s weird to find him without his lips turned upward, like right now when he presses his smiling mouth to your temple. “That makes two of us.”
You fall into a lull of silence, the party going on around you, disturbed only by your content hum. Tommy nudges his nose against your temple, asking quietly. “What is it?”
“Nothing,” you murmur shyly, daring yourself to meet Tommy’s eyes even if there’s no judgment in his gaze, only warmth. You reach for the hand on your shoulder and he intertwines your fingers immediately, his hand warm and a little sweaty. “Just… it feels like I’ve been waiting for this forever.”
“This?”
“For you,” you shrug, squeezing his hand. “To come home. I didn’t think there was even a home to come back to, let alone a chance that we would. And now we’re here.”
He has to kiss you for that, rearranging your positions so he can cup your face in his hands and ignore Maria’s advice from earlier. He sneaks in a little tongue and kisses you with such force you have to hold onto him when you feel your knees go weak.
You break apart when breathing becomes imminent, and he exhales against your mouth, freckled face flushed and pleased. “Now we’re here.”
He draws you back into his embrace and talks nonsense as he draws mindless shapes against your back. About what he did today and what he plans on cooking for dinner tomorrow after patrol as long as he finds the right ingredients.
It’s so incredibly mundane that you can hardly believe it, but time ticks by and Tommy stays by your side, solid and real. He sips on his orange juice and life keeps on happening, your best friend lodged back into place after years and years of flying adrift.

Pdpspsps y'all want some Kid Leo Fic scraps?
More or less what happens in the sick arc, I ended up hating the first one and restarting but then never finished sooo yeah
Leo is cold. Cold and all floppy like a spaghetti noodle. He rolled over, hands flapping all over to try and find the blanket. But he's already wrapped up in one! And his long-sleeve shirt, too!
Leo squirms a little more before opening his eyes, blinking hard at the sudden light. It's too bright. And very, very purple.
Donnie's room. No. Big Donnie's lab. It's all blinky lights and big dark screens that remind of him a evil genius.
Leo sits up and rubs at his eyes, trying to get all the blurries out. He blinks real hard and looks around. Yep, it's Cl-Big Donnie's lab. Big Donnie.
Right, he was s'posed to be keepin' a eye on him!! Leo looks around, but Big Clone Donnie isn't anywhere!!
" He was s'posed to be under my guard!!" He huffed, grabbing Lion-y and stomping towards the door. He was still cold. Even colder now that he wasn't under the blanket, but he was on guard duty!! He had to make sure Donnie didn't do anything evil!
Leo opened the door and heard laughing, aaaaaalll the way far away. He tried to remember where Micheal said everything was. Raphie's room was…was down there, and then Michael's room was…there. But they weren't in the rooms.
Ugh, Leo's head felt too swimmy to remember. He sighed, walking towards where he heard all the laughing. He followed some big stairs and then went towards where the light was. This looked really familiar!
It was probably the kitchen!
'Cause he had been there lots and lots of times already, so he remembered where it was!
Leo squeezed Lion-y tight to his chest and started running, maybe they were back to normal! Maybe everyone was small again! Or Dad was home!
"I'M AWAKE!" He exploded into the kitchen! Waving his arms in case they couldn't see him.
But everybody was all the same. Raphie was still big like a skyskater, Clone Donnie was still wearing his scary goggles, and Micheal was still…Micheal. Too big for a little baby brother.
Leo frowned, but made sure to hide his sad when Casey said good morning to him.
They were friends now, obviously!
" Morning Leo, you want some breakfast?" Casey got up and held out his hand. Leo took it and let Casey take him to the table and help him onto a chair. Even though he could do it himself, they were friends so it was okay.
Casey got a funny look on his face when he sat back down, but he just started eating his pancakes!
" Micheal, can I have…can I have syrup?" He asked, setting Lion-y in the empty chair next to him, " pretty please with cherries on top?"
Micheal smiled at him real big and sat a plate right in front of him! With three big, giant pancakes on top!
It was a lot, but Leo was a good eater! He could eat it all!
" 'course you can, " Micheal poured a whole bunch of syrup on top, then handed Leo a fork, " Eat up, Leo. You deserve a treat after last night "
Leo smiled really big at that, grabbing his fork and poking it into the pancake on top. But then Raphie stopped him and took the fork and the plate away.
" hold on, Lee, let Raphie cut it up for you "
Leo pouted at that, but let him cut up the pancake. His mouth was pretty small anyway, so smaller pieces would fit better. and then he could eat even faster!
Leo watched,

He had to make sure Donnie didn't do anything evil! His feet are really cold too, the floor is all metal and is making him shiver really bad. Leo grabs the blanket and makes it into a very warm cape.
His head is too swimmy to remember the directions, but he is pretty sure he can find Raphie's room. And then they can be on guard together! Besides, he knows Big Raphie can keep him all warm and cozy.
Leo opens the door and walks down the hallway, it's really really quiet. He is still really, really cold. But not sleepy like he usually is when he's cold. It was a turtle thing, Donnie told him one time.
He wasn't sleepy, but he wanted to lay down really bad. His legs hurt from walking, even though he only walked a little. And his arms hurt from holding Lion-y, but he wasn't even that heavy. His head hurt too, but the lights were all bright and stuff, and he probably had too much stuff in his head.
Leo sniffed, wiping at his face to try and get his nose to work. It didn't work that good, though, so he took a big breath in. It was crunchy sounding, like when Dad did one of his big sneezes and then had a stuffed up nose for the rest of the day.
That was okay, Leo could still be on guard duty with a stuffed up nose.
He kept walking and walking til he found Raph's big giant door, but it was closed. He set Lion-y on the floor really careful, but his arms hurt too bad to open the door. Leo huffed, sitting on the ground and banging on the door two times. He was too tired to do it anymore. He would just have to wait til Big Raphie opened the door by himself!
