HI. BIG OVERVIEW OC POST THING. IT'S RAINFOREST FLOODS.

have you ever thought to yourself "hey wouldnt it be cool if there was an oc story made by two guys and it was about a haunted waterpark slash arcade in a fake town in a real state". you probably haven't. but if you have youre in luck! more under the cut ok.

rainforest floods is a terrible no good ocverse made by me and my good friend crawford @dykeseesgod. everyone in it sucks and is horrible except maybe one or two side characters. it's set in the podunk middle of nowhere town of timberline, new mexico, and more specifically a waterpark/arcade called rainforest floods (title drop).

also the waterpark SUUUCKS like its budget is nothing they are in debt. the managers havent paid taxes in 15 years. anyway these are the employees. theyre bad

and these are the co-managers. theyre even worse (and also toxic old man yaoi. these refs were drawn by the aforementioned crawford)

anyway yeah. they get up to wacky hijinks in what will ideally be a tv show coming out in one million years. they're also horrible and tragic. most of it is bruce's fault. some of its not though!

ok also here's some other side characters.

^ running gag that nobody knows her name except kelsey who has a huge crush on her.

^ unnamed girl's younger brother who is constantly faced with horrors and torment at the hands of the rainforest floods employees. dont get me wrong hes annoying as fuck but he didnt deserve to run on that hamster wheel. (ref also drawn by ford)

^ jeff's girlfriend. also the coolest person in timberline new mexico. worlds most unimportant minor character but she is wonderful and loved by the producers (me and cosmo)

FUNNY OUT OF CONTEXT THINGS THAT SHOULD MAKE YOU MORE INVESTED IN THIS OCVERSE

rainforest floods stupidity logic is a thing me and robbie came up with to explain why all the characters are idiots who dont find things out that are important to the plot too soon.

there's a chain gimmick restaurant that andy's whole family runs except him. its like italian food but its like also magicians. their tagline is "so good its practically magic". andy hates it.

kyle has a curse on him so that nobody remembers or recognizes him outside of like. his family. so the rff employees arent even targeting him for their shenanigans on purpose theyre all just weird freaks.

kelsey gives unnamed girl the company landline as her phone number because shes stupid and a ghost and doesnt have a phone.

the employees all get together on wednesdays in the breakroom and compare evidence on whether or not andy and bruce are together romantically. its the one thing that truly bonds them all together.

vincent: is a watchmojo fan, had his first kiss as beethoven in his 12th grade production of dog sees god confessions of a teenage blockhead (2004), gets really christian in some episode subplot, is not a swiftie but he is a gaylor, wishes he was jonathan sims sooooo bad, types like a toddler who was just given a keyboard.

also there's a brand account that we run and post on whenever we feel like it. its more of a sounding board for ideas we may explore more in the future. its fun but it may be a bit difficult to get the full idea with the execution so :-( sorry you wont fully understand our wonderful and hilarious visions

Hi! I'm Joshua. I like to draw and make stories that I mostly keep to myself and to some of my friends LMAO. I do post oc content from time to time with little to no context, and there are some things that I put in the drawings that only a few will catch if they're actively hunting out for lore crumbs from my drawings alone HSHHSSHS

I find joy in my creations, and I hope that one day, if I get enough courage to openly talk about my characters, people will enjoy them as much as I do! For now, I will introduce my ocverses and provide little info about them without spilling too much! I'm not sure if I'll be making tags for each of them, but I'll see if I'll need them in the future.

I have gotten permission to talk about my OCverses so take some Starwood Forest ramblings to start!!

I've classified the universe into three 'stages', each representing when the tone of the OCs changed.

The first is the the beginning stage! This one was created during when I was about 12 (I'm 15 now) because I needed a way to express emotions and what better way to do it then animals! This early stage took a lot of inspiration from series like Warrior Cats and Wings Of Fire, which is very noticeable in the first wave of OCs.

Many of these OCs were shallow figures without much thought behind them, and many have since been forgotten about. This stage has gotten slightly revamped overtime, fleshing out certain characters.

Overall this stage was the calmest, one made to pass the time without much thought to how it worked. There were some darker elements, but most of it was suitable to middle schoolers.

(I should also mention the first OCs in this wave Fallen, Goldie, Jay ad Rusty, were based off FNaF OCs. No plot relevance but something that I feel is vaguely important.)

The second stage (The Seas and Skies stage)

This stage was when I started experimenting with darker topics, such as child abandonment, child abuse, homelessness, death of a loved one, and trying to find out your place in life.

Some notable OCs from this time: Ocean, the pirate cat! They were the one I struck with some heavier topics, but mostly left alone. They are the captain of a pirate ship, and just in general a badass. May be non binary. Same case as Seahorse, listed below. Seahorse. Who I explicitly stated to have been abused as a child. First OC to have confirmation of this in front of my parents. Well. I also may have accidently wrote her to be trans coded? Like I didn't mean it but it also fits with her story. So yeah. mtf first mate. she's got a partner. Winter the ghost fox! I love him. I love him so much. He's just a funny ghost fox who lives with a circus. He died from falling off a cliff btw.

This stage was named due to the focus of the oceans and the circus, which included many winged animals, hence the name. There was a lot of escapism stuff, which looking back on it was me trying to find a happy place to escape too when my siblings came after me.

I have gone through and revamped many elements of this stage to comply with the main timeline, as well as adding more queer characters!

One thing I should mention before moving to stage three, is two OCs that belong somewhere between stages one and two. They were created during the first stage, but didn't get fleshed out until the second. Their names are Peppermint and Thistle and they are lesbians and that has always been their relationship since I made them. They basically adopt the kids in the circus that Raven can't take in, so they have a lot of children that stop by!

It was also at this point in time that I started drawing the characters more humanoid, when they had been fully animal before hand.

On to stage three (the King, the Lab, and the Child Soldiers)

This stage is so fucking dark! What was 13 year old me thinking! We've got experimentation, more child abuse and neglect, death, suicide, child soldiers, child death, fighting arenas, corrupt people in power, and quite a bit more on top of everything talked about in stage two! Take this as your fucking trigger warning!

This stage was developed based on a creepypasta OC I had made, and then turned into something so much bigger! We've got a kingdom being ruled over by a queen who is making prisoners who were experimented on fight each other to the death, most of whom were children. We've got Finn, the ball of trauma who ends up ruling the kingdom but only after he kills himself! We've got a hoard of dead kids, one of which can time travel, a bunch of ones that were street kids who were brutally murdered, and group that was fucking child soldiers?????? What the fuck was 13 year old me doing. What the fuck was I doing.

Anyways, this stage is where I ended up putting this OCverse out of main activity and started moving onto the CrossOCverse and the Minecraft OCverse, all of which were just as dark btw. If not more. Remember that the Starwoods forest was something I created with my parents knowledge. Admittlly they didn't know a bunch of details (like anything related to the queer characters because homophobic parents suck) but still.

q about your ocverse: does barrier, protection, or deflection magic exist in any capacity? intuitively it feels like would be low penetration, but i'm uncertain about the other factors

These sorts of magic do exist, but they tend to operate on a personal level, due to the way emission works, and how you purpose them depends entirely on who you are. Let me explain.

Magic emission works exponentially, not linearly: Let's say I want to cast a barrier in front of me, and I have the capacity to sustain it as well as the knowledge to coalesce the mana into this purpose (keep the word purpose in mind), or, in other words, know the spell. This is easy, as the mana is being purposed right in front of you, close to you, close to your 'core', or its origin. Now let's say you want to cast the same barrier 2 meters/6 and a half feet away from yourself, to shield someone or something else. This wouldn't be impossible, but it surely would be more arduous and would require a deeper well of mana as well as either expertise and deep familiarity with the spell to keep the mana dense as it travels ('learned emission' or 'artificial emission') or just be someone with an innate higher aptitude towards magic emission ("natural emission').

Now, let's say you want to cast this very same barrier, but 4 meters/13 feet away from you. This would be far, far more difficult, as the farther away you wish to purpose mana, the harder it is to keep it dense so it can actually coalesce, exponentially, meaning, the difference in difficulty between making a barrier in front of you vs, making a barrier 2 meters away from you is not the same difference in difficulty between making it 2 meters away from you vs 4 meters away, it becomes far, far more difficult very quickly the farther you go, because mana, stable when it's inert, immediately becomes very unstable the moment it's tampered with, and it has a natural reaction to try and go back to being inert, which is where the user's aptitude to keeping it dense and active comes into place. The farther away the mana is from the core that is trying to use it to cast something, that is, that is activating it, directing it, and then coalescing it into a purpose, the harder it is to keep all of these checks into control. Domestic magic, with minor, mundane effects is easy, but purposeful magic is difficult and the object of professional study and research!

Now, let's go back to purpose for a bit, because we've been using this word here and there: As stated in the other post, Conditional Magic is inherently more potent than Freeform Magic. Part of of this theory also accounts for the purpose of the magic: Is the barrier spell you know a general "stop harm from coming my way" barrier or "stop physical objects" barrier? A catch-all barrier, like the former, will be very convenient, but also very weak, because it lacks specificity in its purpose: Yeah, it'll attempt to catch anything coming your way, but it will do a shoddy job at it. The latter barrier, however, will be far, far stronger, as it has the directive to "stop physical objects". It is mana reinforced with strong specificity, and it will do a great job at stopping physical objects coming your way, but of course, this is at the price of being able to only stop physical objects: A mean ghost can still curse you right through this barrier midst throwing furniture at you.

Now, with this in mind, we can go back to something we said at the start of this post: "How you purpose them depends entirely on who you are".

Ivarean A, let's call her Alice, has a high degree of natural magic emission. This is a personal talent, an aspect of hers, that she may have decided to cultivate or not, and let's say Alice did. Alice can shield you from afar with a strong, potent, specific barrier, maybe even shield herself and you at the same time if she's particularly jacked. But what if the ghost from the example is the enemy at hand? You two came into this haunted house to tell the ghost to keep those loud parties of theirs down a little, the neighborhood is complaining about them. They don't even mind the hauntings, you're just loud, ghost! But the ghost doesn't like this and negotiations fall through, so now this ghost is tossing all sorts of clown paraphernalia at you (this "house" was a clown museum). Alice shields herself and you. Great! Now the ghost is also preparing a curse. Welp! Alice will have to make a decision, because she can't keep holding two physical barriers at the same time while also dealing with that incoming curse.

Let's say that, instead of having a skilled 'emitter', you have a skilled 'weaver'. Magic Weaving, in a sisterhood with Emission and Penetration, refers to how malleable mana is to you, how easily you can purpose and multipurpose it, either off rip or adaptively.

Let's say that alongside Alice and yourself also stands the Napalm Witch, Lisbeth Elstad. She's got "witch" in there, so she must be really good at everything magic-related, right? Well, not quite, Lisbeth is actually quite crappy at most forms of magic (don't tell her we said that, though, she's moody), it's just, at the form of magic she's good at, she's really, really good at, and that happens to be Weaving. In just a second, she can weave a curseward into the physical barrier. Hell, knowing the feisty witch-slash-alchemist, she'd have opened by creating a barrier with multiple properties woven into its purpose from the get go, as her level of expertise easily allows her to condition the shield with "If curses are detected, repurpose mana into absorbing it and dissipating it". This keeps the integrity of the barrier while also giving it more versatility and adaptability against the unknown or against a large number of variables. The disadvantage to this mighty barrier is that such rapid, visceral changes in purpose quickly exhaust the coalesced mana (better than being cursed, though!), and also, Lisbeth, who has very bad Emission, would need to be next to you in order to shield you in this manner. Not that protecting you would be her first reaction, anyways, it'd be to drown the problem in napalm so it stops being a problem, but that's neither here nor there.

As for the innate penetration of defensive spells, there's always going to be little rules and caveats there, but for the most part, you are correct, they have low penetration, as most every barrier or otherwise defensive spell is intended to protect from the outside rather than the inside. Specialized spells, such as hardening your organs (VERY illegal in boxing and such combat sports!!!) exist, but they are very niche compared to your usual exterior-protection barriers and such spells.

I originally made my Twitter fandom account to follow a good friend who'd left Tumblr, but now we're both active on Discord.

Then I kept it to follow fandom artists and their developing AUs and OCverses, but the ones I most faithfully follow on Twitter also have Tumblr accounts or are members of mutual Discord servers.

I had already deleted my professional Twitter account when I got tired of the hate spewed by the Elongated Muskrat. I created a Bluesky account but have not found the fandom traction there, so if I keep it, it will become a professional account.

I don't need another Pillowfort situation, where I'm wandering around a ghost town.

So, Tumblr mutuals who also post on Twitter, please do not take it personally if I deactivate there. I'm staying put here, where I have the deepest roots.

the necromancy lore for my ocverse is btw that for a short period of time wayyyyy back when, it was REALLY popular, like, hospitals were beginning to offer it in cases where it seemed "safer" to kill and revive than to use straightforward medicine and healing.

and then there was an ideological schism among ppl who began to want to "gatekeep" (ie, demand that the soul called down to the body be the same soul who departed from it, a task like finding a needle in a haystack) vs people against "gatekeeping" who felt that it's perfectly fine to call it a revival so long as the body is restored to life, no matter whose ghost is called down to inhabit it ( borrowing from lemony snicket- so, finding ANYTHING in a haystack, the world has no shortage of freefloating spirits). eventually this leaked to the public, who justifyably freaked, and necromancy was basically eliminated overnight due to its now Very Bad Public Opinion.

also in ocverse necromancy fully restores a body to life- any soul+body properly reattatched, the hair and nails grow again, the skin is warm, one can grow old and die etc. its not like a zombie situation.

UHHH 3 autistic bitches have to solve murder cases was kind of the whole thing... later on i was going to take it into a kind of save the world emotional arc with the 4th autistic bitch direction but we stopped playing before it picked up/i knew what i was really doing

the world is like kind of normal modern fantasy just like. more haunted and scary vibe. ghosts are a very common thing and dealing with them is baked into every day life!

the characters... i dont know if i can do a proper summary of all of them because i only really own one of them but theres

syn (@bappyna, not active on tumblr though) who is a silly silly man he is from russia originally but moved to the states in his 20s i believe he likes cooking and being friends with people. he is missing a chunk of his calf because a lady ate it.

max (@crashed-on-mars) is kind of a nefarious creacher but secretly she Cares.. shes kind of a nightcrawler-esque critter. she is also some sort of wizard and likes to turn people into cats.

lizzie (@hopelesscalico) is a deeply sad and damaged and autistic girl she is 16 and sleeps with a sword every night and would often 1 hit kill every single ghost enemy because she has like 5 stat buffs against them.

eos is a fallen angel who loves humanity so so much that they tried to invent a cure for death and in the process killed like hundreds more people in ghost related incidents #OOPS its ok though because theyre sillay <3 they were the one who was gonna go kind of insane and almost explode the entire earth

Gladius!! He's an emo boy with a sword! He grew up as a betrothed concubine to the faery princess, before the fall of the fae court when he fled to become a traveling mercenary, and he's very attached to his past since that was the last time he had a stable and happy life. Would very much be a Navarre archetype if he were in Fire Emblem lololol

Let's seeeeee there's a big dreamscape sequence that's next on the list; I'm also very excited to write the villain's death: Gladius stabs him non-fatally (he abused Glad's childhood girlfriend; he deserves it) before doing a standard villain interrogation/monologue, before Mica, a faery who is being slowly corrupted/possessed by a cursed spear, reaches the scene and starts violently stabbing the villain to death. The villain's last words are asking if Mica is his father, revealing that the evil spirit within the spear is the ghost of his dead father that has been corrupted by hatred past the point of intelligence.

8.) what inspired your world building, if anything?

Okay so I KNOW this does exist, but I was just kinda thinking... why does so much fantasy either take place in Medieval England (Europe) Lite (but not even a very historically-accurate version of it) OR Just The Modern Day But There's Magic? Like there's SO many time periods I'd love to see covered in a fantasy-verse that are criminally underused. Even medieval-based ones are less Truly inspired by the middle ages and are more just direct ripoffs of Tolkien.

In any case, I picked the (19)20s although I've been debating whether it's really the right way to go. It's definitely going to be US-centric just cause... well, I'm from there. I thought for a ghost story too, the culture of the 20s where they're recovering from a world war and massive epidemic and still spiraling into even worse events to come would be kind of on the nose. I guess it hits home a bit with the modern day, too.

It's not intended to be a bleak story, though. Just a little dark.

DIFFICULT it changes? I usually say Faith, she became the protagonist after being cast as the antagonist in the last variation for a reason - I just love her a lot.

But Davy grows on me sometimes. He's probably the closest one I have to a self-insert which means sometimes I don't especially like him because we're just too similar, but he's got Vibes. Occasionally he overthrows Faith in my brain for Favorite.

16.) imagine the entire story takes place but in the meantime the characters all also have tumblr. what kind of (terrible) tumblr posts would happen?

Faith is DESPERATELY trying to Do Numbers as a Tumblr Funnyman and it isn't working. Every carefully-crafted shitpost she makes gets 10 notes or less. She doesn't seem to realize that there's no prize for getting famous on here and it's in fact a hindrance.

Davy has a main blog but he doesn't post and gets reported as a bot a lot. He also has a sideblog he runs where he posts as Smudge and it has 50k followers

Lilah has a decent if somewhat niche following and does mostly music recs, songs she's working on, life advice, and aesthetic photos. She has a few fandom blogs as well and has to be careful not to post on main cause it'd be embrassing.

Sam is dead and posts glitchy illegible posts into the void. His blog cannot be followed, but the posts will show up on your dash anyway, somehow. None of them have visible notes.

25. best scene you havent yet written, but have an idea for?

Faith and Davy re(?)union at the beginning hell yeah! I have two separate ideas depending on whether to make them Childhood Friends (the standard) or strangers (new idea, playing around with it)

~ I have a new oc in the making, Thier name is Telly and they go by any pronouns. They're a ghost in a TV head machine built by dice to be a walking servant to help them do tasks around the volcano that the minions cannot. The story is that crimson has 2 exes, and she killed one of them. The ghost of her ex finally decided to get back at her and attempted to possess dice to murder her, but missed and ended up in the AI machine, and couldn't get out. Once that happened they got chased out of the volcano after attempting to hurt dice and needed somewhere to flee. After a while if running, they got into an accident that I'm still trying to peice together and it wiped Telly's memory, all they can remember is a blonde lady and a shotgun. They found the city, found a friend to stay with (Carmen) and now has a job as a news reporter

~ Crimson has murdered tons of people, some of them with her bare fists, but the weapons she works best with are shotguns, swords and plain old knives. Dice works well with snipers and pistols

~ Ben has an irrational fear of running late to things. That's why he wears two watches

~ Lady No-Name can see, everything is very desaturated and static-y for her though. Despite this, her vision is surprisingly sharp

~ Tank is really literal minded and will take lots of things literally. That's why they don't understand memes

~ Boba the clown rhymes when she's stressed. Not on purpose, it's kind of a subconscious thing

~ The mushroom family is the biggest family in my ocverse currently, consisting of two adults and 4 kids (2 of them being twins). They've lived for a long time, way before the city was actually built. Mushroonian aging is weird, but every 1 mushroonian year is 27 human years

~ Mango is from an underwater kingdom, the one that Tatiana is currently struggling to run

~ most of my ocs were born and raised in the city, and blaze knows most of their parents, after living for so long amongst the humans. She gets kinda depressed sometimes because a lot of her friends back in the day are dead now. Goddess problems

~ blaze has been redesigned, btw! She's actually likeable now, look at that

~ Dice used to work a 9-5 job before he got money through being hired to kill people. Blaze was mayor then and came in one day to make sure the building was up to code because of the developing city and that's how they met. They became pretty good friends, but they also fought a lot

~ Most mushroonians you'd expect to see if you lived in the city is...well, none actually, but you'll see mushroonians wearing red with yellow spots like red cap mushrooms since theres a village slightly close to the city full of mushroonians of that type. ~ Before I became wizard, my old persona was this ordinary nerdy girl named AJ. Since she was in no way able to protect the city, that was blaze's job. She lived amongst the humans as a protecter to them but lost her magical abilities over time from not using them. Once wizard took over she became mayor and is the new protecter to her OCS. "But if wizard is the goddess of creation and gave all these people these traumatic backstories and is the cause of all these innocent people's misfortune, What is she really protecting them from?" Grain, mostly. Do you WANT grain, the literal god of chaos to steal your soul or burn down your house??? Didn't think so

~ Dice doesn't do his evil sociopathic crimes purely because he wants blaze dead. He does it out of hatred for the world. He does it because he had a terrible life and can't recall a single good memory from childhood to age 20, and wants to feel alive. He has no idea that wizard is the reason he had such a horrible life, and who knows what might happen if he finds out

~ I have an AU which would make a really great video game. It's based on a dream I had where I was in a murder library thing (basically a library but the people there are all murderers). Grain irl hopped into the dream and I was tasked to help them get to the front desk and get them a "no kill pass" which basically was a little card that meant you couldn't be killed while you're there. In the AU, it's a video game. The players are teleported into a randomly generated maze of bookshelves (with SOME npc enemies) and it's essentially a battle royale kinda thing, only that you can respawn. The front desk is hidden somewhere in the huge maze and if you find it, you can't be killed for the rest of the round, but you CAN kill others. The players can unlock oc characters that each have their own stats, buffs and special defensive and offensive abilities (such as crimson can teleport past dead ends and summon minions). They also have their own rankings, like common, rare, epic, legendary, etc. It's literally just called the murder library au. It would make a good game wouldn't it? Also what the hell is up with my dreams

~ the free for all au is also based off of a dream I had, where my ocs randomly started trying to kill each other

~ Most of the lore for my ocs is actually thought up by grain. We work together on creating realistic and believable backstories and I can't thank them enough for it lmao

~ Erin has a part time job right now selling ice cream in the marketplace at the town square. During fall and winter though, he sells hot chocolate and brownies
