I’m SURE someone’s pointed this out but-

It’s very clearly a Clawthorne relation thing, which begs the question-

Did Belos/Philip seriously fully take and use the symbolism of his brother’s lover to torment countless iterations of him? Was it a sort of penance in his eyes i.e. wearing chains while you repent for your actions? Was it to remind himself of what was “taken from him” and by who? Or was it just sick cruelty for the hell of it? Or maybe a way to distance himself from the golden guards, so he doesn’t get attached to them being as he seems to have despised every single one. TLDR; Belos is fucked up and I am DESPERATE to know the meaning behind the mask.

How Belos’ Intense Gaslighting/Abuse Accidentally Lead him to Raise the Most Goodest Boy Possible

I’ve seen takes about how Hunter and his predecessors were just naturally good person because the person they are all cloned from was a good person regardless of his upbringing. Perhaps there could be some merit to that assessment (the whole nature vs nurture and all that) I think it’s more about how the Golden Guards were raised that just put them in the path to rebel. Regardless of Belos efforts (or lack there of depending how you look at it) it’s pretty clear how his obsessive control would only push the Grimwalkers to “betray” him. In Hollow Mind, we see brief appearances of two other Golden Guards and even if it was just for a few moments, we actively see a slight difference in how Belos talks to them and the major difference he handles Hunter in comparison to them.

The first Golden Guard we see is during the aftermath of the “wild witch attack.” At the very start, we see Belos scolding him harshly for setting off the explosions so close to the stage. Then he just immediately brushes pass to go to the next town to most likely have a similar performance, and when the Golden Guard stutteringly asks what to do with the other explosives, Belos just simply tells him to “put on a better show.” During those days, Belos didn’t even try to hide his malicious intentions from this Grimwalker, and he also had no qualms in expressing his annoyance to him so bluntly. This Golden Guard seems meek and unsure despite him ultimately going along with the destruction of the town. Coupled with how Belos treats him, it’s not surprising for this boy to someday stand against Belos because Belos doesn’t even try to give him a reason not to.

Then we have Golden Guard number two during the coven sigil scene. This moment is much more subtle, but the way Belos answers his “they’re still alive” with a “then we still have some work to do” he sounds more soft spoken. He isn’t as aggressive to this Folden Guard compared to the one we saw previously. However, he is still doing little to hide the his insidious intentions from his young protégé, and while he walks away, we see the Golden Guard hover over the poor woman before moving to follow. The motive to rebel against someone who would do such a cruel thing still plants in this boy’s heart.

Before we get to our current bad but sad boy, I feel like Darius’ mentor at least deserves an honorable mention. We unfortunately have not actually seen any scenes with the Golden Guard that came right before Hunter, but for him to seen as a mentor to Darius implies that he at least made it to his late teens, maybe even into his adult years. Going by what little we know about the man, he seemed to be one (if not the sole) inspiration to Darius becoming a rebel. Hunter openly defying Darius in favor of defending his new found friends lead Darius to state that he would make his predecessors proud. The fact that Darius used the plural form rather than just speaking specifically about his mentor leads me to believe he is at least somewhat aware of the true nature of the Golden Guard position, but I digress. What I’m getting at with this is the fact that Darius’ Golden Guard could possibly be one of the oldest any of the other Grimwalkers could have gotten before getting replaced.

Which leads us to our very own Golden boy himself, Hunter. Coming off the tails of one of the oldest Golden Guards, we have the youngest scout to ever be given the title. Belos is already trying to improve his manipulation techniques from the get go by inducting Hunter so young into true hierarchy of the Emperor’s Coven. Unlike the other past Golden Guards we are shown, Belos is for the most part very calm and “gentle” when speaking to Hunter. Only sounding more firm when he actively scolds him for failures, but even then the tone Belos takes is much more authoritative rather than openly scornful. Instead of openingly displaying his malicious intentions, Belos paints himself as the savior to all of the Boiling Isles. Sure he still loses his temper with Hunter, but even that is explained away by lying to Hunter about the nature of his “curse” so his nephew just sees him as his poor uncle who needs his help. Hunter is very much isolated in order to keep the lies planted in his head from breaking, thus keeping him devoted.

However, for as long as Philip has been perfecting this craft. For as much enough he put into making his latest Golden Guard the he loyal and loving nephew, it’s these practices that actually lead Hunter down the path of rebellion just like the others, perhaps even faster than his predecessors. Hunter being inducted into the coven so young and so completely made him truly believe that all of his actions no matter how harsh is for the sake of the greater good. Because he has no one else other than his Uncle (initially) it just motives Hunter to aid his uncle in every possible way he can, and because he was taught to do everything “for the greater good” that just inspires Hunter to research wild magic for the sake of Belos’ “curse” even though it goes against Belos’ orders. Hunter is willing to face potentially harsh punishments because he ultimately believes it will aid his Uncle. Hunter is so isolated that when he actually does gets love and support from people outside of Belos, it hits him like a truck and latches strongly onto his heart, which leads him to want to do his best for those person, despite it putting himself in harms way.

Perhaps the actual reason why every Golden Guard ultimately turns against Belos is the fact that it’s impossible to have complete control over a person ni matter how much effort is put into it. In trying so hard to keep his Grimwalkers in line, Belos has only pushed them on the path of “betrayal” due to his abusive methods catching up with him. Even the most loyal of the Golden Guards can only believe in him so much of Belos is nothing but a self righteous monster too consumed by his mission that he fails being a decent person to his “kids.”

Remember when I said I was gonna write EVERY POSSIBLE WINQUOTE that characters were missing in GG Strive in classic Guilty Gear win quote fashion...

Well, here's my first attempt:

(I wrote all of these In-Character to the best of my knowledge… you can take them with a grain of salt… but I hope you appreciate the attempt all the same!)

At first, prev. GG went along, because he had been indoctrinated and truly believed he was bringing in criminals, people that would be a danger to society. He believed that by helping Belos he was helping the people of the Boiling Isles.

But then Belos started to become more and more aggressive in his fight against wild magic. And prev. GG could no longer lie to himself and realized the truth: That Emperor Belos was the biggest threat to witch society.

Having a lot more experience than Hunter, maybe prev. GG. worked against Belos for a while before Belos discovered his "betrayal". Or maybe prev. GG confronted Belos himself, hoping he could solve things through diplomacy, as he had for most of his career.

Belos killed him. Probably blamed his death on wild witches and used it as an excuse to introduce even more restrictive laws. Then started on the next grimwalker.

TLDR: If the prev GG was created around 50 years ago, he might have survived a lot longer because Belos was more focused on earning the loyalty of the Boiling Isles than hunting wild witches and didn't need to involve GG in his secret research any longer.

How would you headcanon that they got to where they got? Rio joined a gang, seemingly in prison, and worked his way up. Meanwhile Nick went the blue collar crime route. What do you think their partnership would’ve looked like before Rio was king and Nick was city councilman? Tbh I want a prequel!

Hi! Sorry it took me a minute to answer this one! It's a really interesting quetsion.

I think it was likely that Nick was the connect in those early days. The flashbacks in 4.08 showed that Nick was really building his relationships with the wealthy guests of the golf club and acting as a sort of gopher for them. He's always been depicted as pretty parasitic, but I think in those early days he was focused on making himself indispensable to a particular sort of guy, and as he built up their trust, he was able to utilise that.

It's likely that at least some of those guys were probably interested in drugs, and we know that's where Rio started because of his conversation with Beth way back in 1.06, and I can see that being a way for Nick to prove his worth (and gain a degree of control) by connecting that crowd to Rio and the gang's business. While it wouldn't afford Rio the same degree of protection Nick's capable of later, it probably does already give them a bit of security given Nick would at that point have enough dirty laundry over the golf club guys to give him leverage.

I feel like in that sense, Nick became a sort of plug for those guys fairly quickly, and likely could work as an intermediary between the gang's affairs and the guys through Rio, and once Rio was moving up and into money laundering, I think Nick was probably able to help broach a lot of those relationships. It makes sense for instance that Nick would have those sorts of dynamics with the owners of the Fine & Frugal chain from operating in that sort of crowd for as long as he had, and as a result be able to sort of lubricate the business dealings to get them washing Rio's gang's cash.

What that means for Rio and Nick's relationship I think is really what we saw on the show. They were fairly symbiotic in many ways, and I think the main reason their relationship was tense was less about the business and more the fact that it had been built on the trauma of Nick having him arrested in the first place. Nick deliberately forced Rio into this particular life, and then he used him in it, and while Rio turned that into something that worked for him, I imagine there's a lot of fury and pain attached to that still too.

You have an idea when they'll release Season 2 DLC? I figured they would show us a DLC character once DNF Duel was released.

I'm no expert on game announcements nor am I capable of predicting the future, but it would be too risky to show more content of Guilty Gear in the midst of another Arc Systems fighting game making debut.

That would be a little...reckless in my opinion. If anything, I believe for right now, DNF Duel should keep majority busy while Daisuke and his buddies are working on ways to improve the experience of Strive. That survey gives me hope that they'll show more than it is be expected, but this is speculation and my dumb wishful-thinking.

I'm betting that once the DNF Duel hype and attention settles down later this month or maybe late August, we'll hopefully receive an announcement on Strive.

Hermitcraft season 6 featured an unknown individual known only as The Jingler, who conducted a series of pranks on several hermits. Those who fell victim to the Jingler's pranks were often referred to as being "#Jingled". Some pranks included (but are not limited to) vandalizing Grian's map room to say "You have been J-J-Jingled!!!", and leaving a mysterious book in Hermitville with coordinates that merely led to a sign reading, "GG You've been had! #Jingled".

The Jingler's identity was never revealed by the time Season 6 had concluded. Fans and hermits alike speculated their true identity for years. Many fans believed them to be Grian, however it was unlikely as Grian already had two prankster alter egos in Season 6, Poultry Man and The Salmon Ghost. GoodTimesWithScar was revealed to be the Jangler, a different entity entirely with no official ties to the Jingler. Rendog was suspected of being the Jingler for asking his viewers to "jingle that [notification] bell" at the end of his videos. Tango was also suspected of being the Jingler, as his returns to the server coincidentally aligned with the Jingler's pranks.

The most in-depth search for the identity of the jingler on the Hermitcraft server appears to be from Joehills. Upon checking the community mailbox, Joehills discovered a message from the Jingler left in every hermit's mailbox. Deciding that he could not let this devious behavior continue, he set out to follow a trail to reveal their true identity. He initially asks for the help of his viewers to gather intel from other hermit's videos, however this effort would prove fruitless as the Jingler carefully made sure to never reveal themselves on camera. Joe suspects a parrot by the name of Jingles to be behind the pranks, claiming that the parrot works for ConCorp. However, it is possible he was actually thinking of Captain Jack Sparrow, the CEO of ConCorp, and the lead seemed to come to a dead end.

The Jingler's identity was still unknown by the end of season 6, leaving both fans and hermits to speculate on their identity for years. Many began to believe there was no one true Jingler, but the hermits as a collective conducted a multitude of pranks under one common alias.

The Jingler's identity was finally revealed on April 23, 2022 on the Hermitcraft 10-year anniversary livestream. Cub admitted to being the Jingler, notably only after being asked directly by Jevin. Grian in particular was so distraught by the revelation that he joined the discord call from his mobile phone to comment on the situation.

Hermitcraft season 6 began in July of 2018, meaning that the identity of the Jingler was kept a secret for roughly 4 years. It is possible that this is the longest-kept secret in all of Hermitcraft history. The only known "evidence" of Cub being the Jingler is when he is seen during Impulse's Season 6 episode 32 asking if Grian has completed the infinity room. It is likely Cub was inquiring either to see if he could vandalize the map without Grian noticing, or to see Grian's reaction if the prank had already been carried out. Besides this small piece of circumstantial evidence, there was virtually no proof of Cub being the Jingler prior to April 2022. The most concerning detail in this story is, perhaps, the fact that the identity of the Jingler was only revealed when Cub was directly confronted by Jevin on stream. It is unknown if Cub ever planned to reveal the Jingler's identity on his own, and he very well may have intended to take this secret to the grave.

i never realised just how much tgb had changed how i thought about the characters (mostly vee) until yesterday when i was re-looking over my toh fan-art. You wrote them so well that i forgot that it wasnt all in the show. like how vee and gus weren't shown to being best friends, vee never got to be angry/shocked by hunter or just willow still holding a little grudge against amity. I really like Vee, and the more I think about the gang's time in the human-realm, the more I sit back in my chair and think "Ah man, these arcs are really necessary and interesting though.."

Vee also holds a lot of plot, as a basilisk. We can speculate what the reason is that they were extinct, for example (grimwalkers were extinct too).

Wat I really enjoy about TOH's characters are how easily and smoothly they weave into each other's themes and arcs. Their personalities and histories makes them all perfect friends to both build them up and break them down. It's a chefs kiss.

Vee is no different! The set-up for her character was perfectly slotted in to what the other characters needed for their time in the human-realm. And the theme I think the human-realm was supposed to embody.

The demon-realm arc for Luz was a hero's journey, but because of the foil of the trope, and that the point was that: there is no hero/chosen one actually, and the rebels didn't make it in time like in the books, and just because it's a different realm it didn't mean Luz could escape - escapism is temporary.

Dana has said grief and hope are core elements of the story, and she chose to tell it through a foiled trope of being chosen/hero's journey, layered with a religious trauma lens.

To me, looking at Luz as the main character, means looking at her as a nerdy girl in need of escapism, wanting to find purpose, and avoiding her emotions about her dad's passing.

The return to human-realm would be, for Luz, a turning point where TOH turns from being about a hero's journey and a journey about the steps of grief and healing - at the end of it, she will find the light.

Vee, to me, is kind of like a new take on the guide character. She is not a guide, in the sense that she has all the answers, but rather all the truths.

She was right when she told Luz she had everything and still chose to run away. They're not the same. Vee is also a lot better than Luz at being normal and fitting in, something Luz has been playing off and avoiding facing. Luz sees herself as being different as a bad thing, she tried to run away to a place where "weird" was normal and that didn't work out. Now she's back home and feels that it's all her fault bad things happened, because she is herself. And the person she is is different. And different didn't mean special, just different. Of course she's depressed.

The same is true for all the other characters. Vee gets to reflect their truths too, simply by being crafted, narratively, into being the guide.

Hunter gets to face his actions as the GG, come to terms with the nuances of his bad actions, whatever reason he committed what he did. Find forgiveness not just from Vee but himself too. He gets to start over, just like her. She shows him it's possible.

Gus gets someone to share his dream with, his love and enthusiasm for the human realm. A place that Vee feels is more home than where she came from. Gus gets to grow as a person, both morally and intelligently. As does Vee, she gets somebody who shows her that she doesn't just have to be a refugee, she can have a purpose here. She can be an ambassador.

Willow was set up to have an arc where she mistook her newfound magical and physical strengths (she is working out a lot in canon after she changed track), for inner strengths. Willow is a sensitive girl, and a bit of a berserk (I mean she was willing to burn her own mind just to hurt Amity). Willow having to face Vee, who isn't physically stronger than her but is significantly further down the road of being internally strong, is something Willow can learn from. Perhaps even have conflict with! (but more so a conflict with herself than with Vee, really.)

With Amity, Vee has a simpler role. I think to Amity it's more so showing that it's possible to live in the human realm, and giving her hope that going back and forth is a future for everyone who wishes to do so. Creatively speaking, I think Amity and Vee more so to bounce off one another for the plot, rather than character growth or decline.

Camila, I think, is the most interesting. Because she has now spent approximately a year with Vee, half of it thinking she was Luz and having feelings about her daughter having changed so much, the line "I'm glad youre still creative" comes to mind. As well as the terror of losing Luz again. But also, because she has had her own unseen arc and development with Vee, and them having bonded into a foster family that we never got to see glimpses of, it goes without saying that Camila has already done the internal work to take on more kids if that's necessary. I think she saw these kids by her door and thought "yep. They're mine now too." Vee, I think, is interesting to toss into the family dynamic between Luz and Camila, who seemingly are misunderstanding one another significantly. Vee sees them both, and can be a voice of reason when it comes to it. Or if it would come to it.

In Nagoriyuki's Arcade, Zato-One intends to bring Nagoriyuki to Slayer. Now while it is uncertain if they'll meet, could Slayer play a key role in helping Nagoriyuki with his vampiric impulses? Going to be frank, it'll be interesting to see how those two would interact.

We've also yet to fully comprehend Nagoriyuki's "Nightless" factor as well... it's something Slayer has never once mentioned being familiar with.

If you've ever seen the Blade movies or even the Underworld films, there are several sub-mutations of Vampire that have yet to be fully understood.

Some were born through breeding, others through genetic experimentation, though Nago's full story isn't entirely on the table yet.

Prior to this, Slayer was concerned that his people were dying out (or at least disappearing from the planet to enter the world of the Makai).

His "retirement" is more or less a formality on his part, as he mainly wanted to spend more time with his Wife Sharon and continue to watch over humans.

Interesting humans like Bedman got in the way of that, of course, but there's also his promise to fight Sol Badguy in earnest one day (even despite Sol's current situation).

Assuming that Nagoriyuki's powers could "provide an answer" to the needs of Vampires as a potentially Endangered Species, he really could prove to be the hope of Slayer's people!

i was supposedly gonna address this by end of month and with my april candy round up but i think might as well do it now. only because it is being shared primarily on international platforms and i feel the need to put out this reminder. i wouldn’t even dream about controlling how one chooses to participate in this fandom but sometimes people need a wake up call.

so, there has been a video going around of GG filming Legend of Zanghai and there is a staff there that people are saying is WYB. it showed this person talking to GG while he is on standby and shooting etc. first of all, these two are notoriously good at hiding and being professional in their workplace. especially now. i doubt they will flaunt each other on set with one acting like a PA for the other. not only that, they both hate to cause any disturbance on set or have unnecessary eyes on them — much worse, gossip, so this is a no.

and in the very low chance that it is WYB or that whatever rumor we have of XX visiting XXX on set is true, the last person who should be outing their secret meetings shouldn’t be turtles. if there is one thing i really miss from the beginnings of this fandom is how much people protected them. even if at times we became obnoxious, you know that the reason is because we wanted to keep them safe. nowadays, i feel like more turtles don’t even care at all. they will show off anything to prove a point. but at what cost? seriously, how far would you go? how much disregard for their rights as human beings will you allow?

which leads me to the main problem here: sharing leaks. i personally sometimes can’t avoid it, especially on weibo cause it depends on who you follow, it will come up. or worse, the leaked videos/photos goes on hot search. xz has been very vocal against proxy shooting for this project so idk why some turtles continue to disrespect his wishes. it’s one thing to see it accidentally, but for international fans to share it and then make it out to be this “scandalous” video proof is so questionable. what makes them different from professional weibo paparazzis who out celebrity couples? who follow them in their homes and even their parents? how are they different from ss who put trackers on their cars and obsess over their personal itinerary? it’s so sus to call yourself a fan who care about them but applaud this kind of behavior. these kind of fans honestly don’t see xz and wyb as people. leave them the fuck alone. i don’t think i can stress that enough. let’s speculate all we want from the materials they willingly give us and try not to make it harder for them to live their personal lives.

i understand how material like that can make someone happy and affirmed but think about them first.

and if you are someone who needs solid video proof to support the boys and be on the bjyxszd train, then please leave this fandom now. i can tolerate alot of behaviors but never ones that endanger them like this. this need for constant validation is dangerous. it’s their relationship, not ours. they are real people and not fictional characters.

so: i'm inviting you along on another journey. we're following a polite gentleman of the wizardly inclination (loïc) who is approached by a sickly woman in dire need (ysmé). all she requests, in her plea, is an escort to guide her to the nearby temple. his decision to support her may turn out to be the most important choice he ever makes.

... have you ever enjoyed the kind of narrative that traps two people with heavily contrasting motives and personalities together in an unbreakable contract? do you like stories of absolute devotion?

... are you compelled by immersive speculative fantasy worlds where the use and study of magic heavily influences the rhythm of people's day-to-day lives?

i think, if you open up your heart, you'll find yourself falling for both of the leads. It's a game that really wants you to look at it from every angle, take it apart, and ask questions about loïc, ysmé, their stories, and what they believe to be true about the world and one another. subtext -- especially the charged subtext this story throws at you and hopes you'll piece together -- is a beautiful thing.

the number of talksprites in this demo is kind of staggering

the jrpg-inspired world of the mosaic and its surroundings is as vibrant as it is profoundly lonely, color folded into every facet of its character as you move through it. appropriately, it's really invested in a lot of questions that arise not just from high fantasy as a genre, but from the modern fantasy sensibilities of jrpgs and the interrogation of what divinity even means in a world where the gods are forces you can interact with and draw power from, however indirectly.

what can i even say? that gg and toby fox's collab score for the prelude is downright heavenly and made it onto my work playlist right alongside the deltarune ost the day it came out on bandcamp? that gg's art, especially their use of light, conveys every scene with vivid beauty?

i wouldn't be posting so much of it if i didn't want to eat every CG. oh my god. he's so pretty. it's not even fair

beyond all of that, i think the game's main resonance point with people is that gg's writing is genuinely thoughtful. they use art detail and deft character writing to convey everything about the leads, using the limited time you get with it to paint layers and layers of information on who these people are and why they make the decisions they do. soulsov's roughly an-hour-and-change of text, expressive talksprites, and lush CGs is infused with so much heart and so much horror and so much intrigue that it leaves you feeling like you're a part of this world, carried along for the ride right alongside the two leads. gg clearly really adores these two, and that level of passion makes everything loïc and ysmé do shine even brighter. in spite of (or perhaps because of) all their friction and flaws, they're easy to love.

(it's really fun to read aloud as a script, too! ysmé's a hoot.)

i hope you experience it with high expectations and an open heart. i don't think it will disappoint. it is, perhaps, just a little bit magical.

i hope you see it through to the end!
