Hello! This is kinda a “panic” ask as you would put it, but I just wanted to ask. I know about the whole scandal lately and I recently talked to my mom (who knows more about Chinese culture and media than I do since I grew up in the US and she grew up in China). She told me that gg has been accused of a lot recently and because he hasn’t been appearing in many shows/performances lately, people are suspecting him even more (while dd’s projects are going great and he’s appearing a lot in public). I thought dd was the one who was going thru a bigger scandal, but it seems gg is experiencing a lot too. Obviously, I trust both of them utterly but I’m really concerned about gg especially because it seems that less people are believing him and I’m scared the scandal might get out of hand. I really don’t want something like 227 to happen again. I was wondering what you know about this situation and your thoughts? So sorry about this long ask.

I think it's important to remember that our impressions about things can be radically altered based on the company we keep, the news programs we watch and the online circles we run in. Someone who watches BBC News and reads the New York Times is going to have an entirely different perspective on what's happening than someone who listens to Joe Rogan and watches Fox News.

If your mother is spending a lot of time on YouTube gossip channels or rubbing elbows with anti circles or hanging out in certain Facebook groups, she's going to get a very distorted idea about what's happening with GG.

Yes, it's true that there are some people out there who genuninely believe some of the rumors about GG (and about DD), but that just goes with the territory. When you have antis out there trying to infect people with bad ideas, sometimes they'll get a hit. This is a huge part of why I'm always telling people to stay away from anti rumors.

These 'doubts and suspicions' aren't as widespread as your message makes it sound. GG and DD always have antis, and they will always be out there trying to smear them both. It's just part of being a star at their level. It's true that the latest attacks seem to have been pushed harder than we're used to seeing, but they aren't getting so much traction that fans need to start panicking.

There will always be credulous people who believe crazy things, but as I said recently, I think the fan wars and their resulting backlash are a far bigger threat than these anti messages are.

I know you said that you believe in GG and DD and I don't doubt it, Anon, but I still feel the need to point out the obvious: The idea that GG has a sugar daddy is completely ridiculous to anyone who gives the issue a moment's coherent thought.

'Sugar daddies' in the industry are big money backers with a lot of political and financial influence who can buy opportunities and bend rules to ensure that someone becomes a success. They can open doors for a wannabe star and put them places where they have no business being based on their level of ability and degree of popularity. They pave the way for someone's success.

Which begs the question, if GG had a sugar daddy looking out for his career, why has his career path been so damn rocky and so much of an ongoing struggle?

GG has had constant setbacks and barriers, and has caught no real breaks. The biggest break he had was CQL, which no one thought was going to be a huge project. It was the quality of the storytelling and the strength of GG and DD's chemistry that made that project a success. And shortly afterward he fell into a scandal that nearly destroyed his career - one that still haunts him to this day.

If anything, it's his lack of solid backing in his earlier career that led to a lot of struggle and probably still makes it harder for him to get his foot in the door at times. He's had to prove himself far beyond what a lot of other actors - even traffic stars - have had to. He wasn't some well-connected baby face fresh out of acting school. He was an inexperienced, untrained outsider coming into it as a second career, later in life than most.

Coming from where he came from, he's done really well for himself. But he had to work hard to get where he is. And he's had to endure a hell of a lot of BS.

And GG is massively, massively popular. He doesn't need to buy his way into anything. He has a lot of dedicated, active fans. He doesn't need someone to wrangle him endorsements or roles. The roles will come to him because people like to make money. The endorsements will come to him because any product he endorses sells out within seconds. He has a massive influence on brand sales. Other artists can't even come close.

GG is in many ways a victim of his own popularity. His fans are constantly causing problems for him and drawing attention to him at times when he least needs to be in the public eye. In fact, THAT is why I suspect GG has been laying low lately. Not because he's 'cowering amidst some sort of scandal', but rather because now is not a time to be taking up a lot of oxygen in Chinese media.

The National Congress is just a month away, and it's a time when certain officials want to be #1 in the hearts and minds of the citizens, and to look good in front of peers. It's not a good time to be stealing the spotlight or reminding people that you are widely viewed as the biggest traffic star with notoriously disruptive fans - something that the government has heavily targeted in recent policy as they try to rein in fan behavior and fan culture.

GG is a smart man. He's not going to do anything to put his career in jeopardy. Laying low is his best move right now.

And GG went through 2/27, surely the most 'cleansing' experience any star could go through. Let me tell you - if there was any dirt on GG, it would have come out then, when everyone was out to get him and he was on the brink of being cancelled. If there was any dirt on him, he would not have been able to recover from the scandal the way he has. Slowly, painfully.

And if he had big backing there's no way he would have been dragged in the media and online as hard as he was, or for as long as he was, during that scandal. He wouldn't have been made a scapegoat quite the way he was during that scandal.

Anyone who genuinely believes those hateful anti rumors needs an urgent brain transplant (no disrespect to your mother).

Everyone needs to take their own path as a fan. Everyone needs to decide for themselves what they believe, what they want and need from fandom, etc. etc. I can't do those things for other people. I wouldn't even want to try.

When we become fans we make our own choices about where we stand with our idols. We either believe in them, or we don't.

Doubt is understandable, wariness is understandable. It doesn't take a lot of years or life experience to have found oneself the fan of someone whose worthiness turned out to be questionable. I think we all need to realize that there is a lot more to our idols than we will ever be aware of (than we ever should be aware of).

But anti messages... they're just bullshit. Most of it transparently so. Like I said in my recent post about this topic, the same so-called 'evidence' is being photoshopped to implicate GG, to implicate DD, to implicate other stars as well. It's all blatantly fake.

Some antis have been spreading around pictures of GG with an older man who is pampering and preening GG, claiming it's 'the official who was his sugar daddy' when in reality the man in the photos is the makeup artist GG has been working with for years.

They don't even try to make the 'evidence' realistic, because they don't need to. They know that a lot of people will eat idiotic claims up without doing even the barest minimum of analysis. And turtles are the credulous victims of this kind of thing all the time.

People need to cultivate some critical thinking skills and develop intellectual self-defense. There is 'having healthy skepticism about artists and being realistic about fandom', and then there is 'being incredibly gullible and susceptible to anti messaging'. Too many people flatter themselves that they're doing the former when they're actually doing the latter.

As for GG and his well-being, Anon, GG is tough as nails. He's been through a lot, he's learned a lot, and he is surrounded by people who are highly qualified to give him expert advice.

I trust him to know what is best for his career. I trust him to take care of himself and do what is best for him. He has a highly capable team working for his best interests, and friends and loved ones who support him. I leave it all in their capable hands.

The best that any of us can do is just trust him to handle his shit. If he hasn't already proved his ability to do so, then no one can!

If you were to rewrite gossip girl, are there any "problematic" scenes or arcs that you would keep in?

ahhhh, I recall other writer friends (hi guys I love you all) answering this ask a while back, and I have to concur with their findings.

which is: I don't think I would scrap something just because it was Problematic. i don't think plot and inciting incidents and events that move the narrative forward are the "problematic" things about gossip girl, the thing that I, as a viewer and analyst of this silly soapy show, take issue with is this that there's a constant revolving door of salaciousness, with the show's pacing never giving the characters enough time to grapple with the events and how to deal with them.

which is just to say, I don't think I would scrap the tough parts, but I would like to sit in them a little longer, take more time to untangle them. the differences would not be in the incidents but in the reactions. like for example, any shitty thing chuck did. he can still be shitty, but the show will treat the shitty thing for what it is: shitty. no trying to warp the backstory and the wills of the characters so that his terrible behavior is reframed as good.

so, to conclude, I think I would keep the "problematic" arcs in, but the aftermath of them would be handled with what I think would be the proper gravity and accountability.

"I've never seen her come to a campaign before," said Mike. "Maybe she's new?"

Eddie walked in a moment after you, grinning. He flung an arm around your shoulder and whispered something in your ear that made you laugh.

"Oh my gosh," Dustin whispered.

Eddie led you over to Hellfire's table and pulled you onto his lap. "Hey guys," he said, running his ringed fingers over your thigh. "This my girlfriend, (Y/N). (Y/N), this is the Hellfire club."

The club members gaped at you.

You waved nervously. "Hi."

"You have a girlfriend!?" Dustin blurted out. Mike hit his shoulder.

Eddie shrugged. "Yeah."

"I mean…" The boys began to stammer, struggling to explain themselves.

"You're just so… pretty," said Mike, immediately wincing. He scratched his head. "I would've expected Eddie's girlfriend to be more…" He struggled for a way to finish the sentence.

"More of a punk nerd?" you suggested, doe eyes wide.

"Yes!" Mike narrowed his eyes. "No?"

You laughed. "I'm just playing. Don't worry, I'm just as much of a freak as the rest of you." You leaned forward conspiratorially. "I read fantasy novels and play D&D too," you whispered.

Mike and Dustin grinned.

"All right." You slapped Eddie's thigh. "I'll be right back, I need food."

Eddie kissed your cheek and you got up and left. "So, what do you think of her?"

"Your girlfriend's cool as hell, man," Dustin appraised.

i was supposedly gonna address this by end of month and with my april candy round up but i think might as well do it now. only because it is being shared primarily on international platforms and i feel the need to put out this reminder. i wouldn’t even dream about controlling how one chooses to participate in this fandom but sometimes people need a wake up call.

so, there has been a video going around of GG filming Legend of Zanghai and there is a staff there that people are saying is WYB. it showed this person talking to GG while he is on standby and shooting etc. first of all, these two are notoriously good at hiding and being professional in their workplace. especially now. i doubt they will flaunt each other on set with one acting like a PA for the other. not only that, they both hate to cause any disturbance on set or have unnecessary eyes on them — much worse, gossip, so this is a no.

and in the very low chance that it is WYB or that whatever rumor we have of XX visiting XXX on set is true, the last person who should be outing their secret meetings shouldn’t be turtles. if there is one thing i really miss from the beginnings of this fandom is how much people protected them. even if at times we became obnoxious, you know that the reason is because we wanted to keep them safe. nowadays, i feel like more turtles don’t even care at all. they will show off anything to prove a point. but at what cost? seriously, how far would you go? how much disregard for their rights as human beings will you allow?

which leads me to the main problem here: sharing leaks. i personally sometimes can’t avoid it, especially on weibo cause it depends on who you follow, it will come up. or worse, the leaked videos/photos goes on hot search. xz has been very vocal against proxy shooting for this project so idk why some turtles continue to disrespect his wishes. it’s one thing to see it accidentally, but for international fans to share it and then make it out to be this “scandalous” video proof is so questionable. what makes them different from professional weibo paparazzis who out celebrity couples? who follow them in their homes and even their parents? how are they different from ss who put trackers on their cars and obsess over their personal itinerary? it’s so sus to call yourself a fan who care about them but applaud this kind of behavior. these kind of fans honestly don’t see xz and wyb as people. leave them the fuck alone. i don’t think i can stress that enough. let’s speculate all we want from the materials they willingly give us and try not to make it harder for them to live their personal lives.

i understand how material like that can make someone happy and affirmed but think about them first.

and if you are someone who needs solid video proof to support the boys and be on the bjyxszd train, then please leave this fandom now. i can tolerate alot of behaviors but never ones that endanger them like this. this need for constant validation is dangerous. it’s their relationship, not ours. they are real people and not fictional characters.

A lot of fans are posting excitedly on Weibo about GG's latest endorsement, because it makes him the only Chinese celebrity to have endorsements with six luxury brands.

This also puts him ahead of DD for the first time in number of endorsements (32), making GG currently the celebrity with the most endorsements.

Thinking back to 2020 when he was losing all of his endorsements and we were worried about how he would ever come back, and now here he is very clearly at the top of the endorsement podium. So proud of him!

"Sweetheart, are you done with the computer?" You peek your head into the room, watching his gaze melt when you enter the room. Kaiser turns his chair to face you, arms instinctively reaching out to hold you by the waist. You get his message, straddling yourself onto his comfortable lap.

"Mhm," Kaiser releases his gentle grasp on you, allowing you to shift around and face the computer. "Playing games, eh?" Kaiser whispers to you, fingers traveling to your hips as he rests his chin on your shoulder. You nod, "I've been bored all day and you've done nothing but work so..."

"Let me watch then," Kaiser hums, leaning back to give you space. Cracking your knuckles, you excitedly drum your fingers against the table as your favorite game loads in.

You hear congratulatory whistles from the man behind you every time you got a headshot, pulling your hair out of your face whenever it bothers you. Honestly, it felt more like he was staring at your focused expression than the game itself. He couldn't help but tease you, a cheeky grin forming on his face when his hands travel from your waist down to your hips and rested comfortably on your thighs.

An irritated groan escapes you when you die again due to the same guy, smashing your mouse against the mouse pad, "I'm gonna shoot your house down," You continue to swerve your mouse around, unaware of your boyfriend, absolutely stunned by your words. (He's played games with you... what have you said about him without him knowing?)

Normally, he would laugh his ass off at you dying again

"Yeah, that's right, eat my ass!" You jump in your seat, a victorious cheer escaping you the moment you kill off the last guy. Kaiser blinks at your sudden words, eyes widening when you innocently type in an innocent 'gg!!' in the chat.

You turn your head to him, a satisfied look on your face. Tilting your head, you asked, "Something wrong?" Kaiser recovers from his shock, a frown on his face. "You can't go saying that to strangers, Meine Liebe. I only want to hear you saying that to me."

Kaiser feels an elbow nudge him, a flustered face looking back at him. Don't expect to receive an apology though, he was 100% serious about what he said.

Sae Itoshi

Normally, Sae would expect his lovely significant other to greet him home with warm arms and a kiss - especially after a long trip away from home. It's been so many nights and days since he was in your arms, he'd really love to receive a good hug from you right now.

However, all he received when he opened the door was the sound of gunshots and ecstatic shouting. Almost instantly, he knew you were on that game again. Sighing, he closes the door. All the sounds he made were drowned out purely by how loud the game was.

Softly opening the door, he looked inside the room. A small smile unconsciously forms on his face, watching you with a competitive grin on your face. Judging by your expression, you seemed to be winning by a landslide.

Leaning back on your chair, cheers erupt from you and your teammates as the game ends. "Hold up, let me get some snacks," Your teammate says, typing 'afk' in the chat.

"Hm, I'm craving Sae's lollipop." Sae's smile twists into a stare of disbelief, jaw dropping. Did you really... really just say that out loud?

Sudden gunshots ensue as you arch your back to lean forward to your computer. Urgently clicking on your keyboard whilst you run away from the players chasing you down, "(Teammate name), get back here and help me! Ohmydaysohmydays,"

"AAA, you better stop shooting me or else I'm going to shoot your whole family down!" You scream at the computer, "I hope both sides of your pillow are warm tonight!"

You feel a hand press against your forehead suddenly, stealing your attention away from the computer as you blink incessantly at your husband. "Oh, Sae! You're home, already?" Your aggressive tone dissipates as if it never even existed - you completely switched characters.

"...Are you sick?" Your fingers glide around Sae's hand against your forehead, feeling around your face and shaking your head. You hear sad music from your computer and your attention returns to the computer, "Fuck, I died."

Sae's hand cups your cheek, fingers digging into your skin a little harder than you'd prefer. His hand snaps your neck to gaze back at him. He rests his forehead against yours for a few seconds, closing his eyes. Your lips part for a moment, in awe of the man you married in front of you.

Sae suddenly breaks the tension, standing back up. "If you're not physically sick, you have to be mentally sick for saying that." You scoff dramatically even though you had a grin planted on your face, turning your chair back to face the computer. Reviving yourself, you won the round in a short amount of time, your mouth zipped shut.

He smirked in response to your new attitude, playing along, "That's my girl." You replied to his comment with a good jab to his side.

Rin Itoshi

Being quite competitive himself, he loved to play games with you. He's had his fair share of matches with you and I can 100% assure you he says the most barbaric, diabolical things. He was dragged into Roblox because of you and you made fun of him for losing to a bunch of 9-year-olds.

He would bet a lot of things whenever the both of you play games. Little arguments and disagreements like who would choose where to eat would always be settled with games. It was a boost of pride for him whenever he saw your defeated face, pouting and huffing for a rematch.

His favorite games are when the both of you can work as a team (2 player princess tycoon). An involuntary smile appears on his face whenever the both of you win, insisting that he carried the team to victory. For some reason though, he can only play as a team with you. He only takes orders from you and hates being told what to do by Isagi or Bachira.

"The last one is running over to your side, they should be low right now," Rin comments to you, who is calling him over the phone.

"Come here, Pookie!" You grin as you begin to chase the person, not noticing Rin's disgusted glare at you. "As long as you get him, I don't care what you call him," He rolls his eyes. Despite what Rin had retorted, you had always been the one calling him Pookie so it soured his mood a little to hear you call someone that.

Once you shoot off the last person, a bright victory banner appears on both of your screens. "RAHHH, big daddy wins again!" You exclaim, stretching.

Pinching the bridge of his nose, he seems almost disappointed with your antics. "I'm coming over," You let out an audible 'huh' at his sudden declaration. "W- what? Why?" The notification that he left the server does nothing but confirm that he's actually on his way.

After a lot of shuffling and background noise, Rin replied "To shut you up." What a lame excuse to come over and hang out, right? You giggle at his words, leaving the server and lifting yourself up to your feet, and fishing out your keys. Judging by the background, you guess that Rin's already close by.

Opening the door for him and leaning against the frame of it, you question, "And, how will you do that?" Out of nowhere, Rin appears in your line of vision, a hand on your chin as he gives you a passionate kiss. After he breathlessly breaks the kiss, he wraps his arm around your waist, "I'll shut you up like this."

Yoichi Isagi

Isagi had gone out to buy snacks a while ago, noticing how you haven't eaten all morning because you were too preoccupied with your game. The moment he returned home, he could hear your yells and he deduced that you still haven't gotten off that game.

"Ohmygosh, he picked me up!??!" You yelled out loud which made Isagi's movements come to a halt for a second... what kind of game were you playing now? He feels chills slither down his spine, shivers rushed through him whilst he pieces together memories of you buying this love simulator game on a whim.

"I love being held by men, especially Isagi," He heard a giddily sweet giggle from the room, making his cheeks heat up when your words repeat in his head like a broken record. He hears the voice of another woman - probably from the game judging by how... dramatic it sounded.

"You... I...!" The woman from the game blurted, "This isn't over! I'll be back. He's mine, you better watch your back." It sounded like a classic mean girl.

Isagi hears another prideful laugh, entering the room just as you state the most repulsive, foul, vile thing ever, "HAHA, suck on my big fat juicy nuts."

You hear the creak of the door, snapping your head over and covering your mouth to stifle your gasp. An awkward moment of deafening silence burns this moment into your memory, you feel your gut twist in a bad way.

You bury your flushed face in your palms in shame, profuse apologies slipping from your lips. "Aha, that's certainly not the thing I expected to hear when entering a room," Isagi plays it off, having experienced a lot of embarrassing moments in front of you too.

-Any story involving Zoro gets a lot of clicks. The other person that rivals Zoro is Sanji ironically because Sanji too was a regular fixture though at the time, he was known as Sexy Blondie before GG started calling him S officially as they did not know who he was but he was that sexy Atlanta kid that everyone wanted to date or fuck

you immediately stood up and felt like panicking. which you were.

“did anyone see my bracelet? it’s gone…” you asked, as you frantically looked through all the tables and couches in the waiting room.

“no,” your member replied. “maybe you dropped it on the way here? since we came here in a hurry and all?”

you thought for a second, trying to calm yourself, “you’re right... i’ll check.” 

“wait!” your manager called out to you, but you ignored the exclamation. even with a makeup artist rushing to you to fix your makeup, you pushed past her and ran out of the room. you knew that without the bracelet you wouldn’t perform as well and you might end up disappointing thousands of people, including the rest of your group.

you ran through the hallways, eyes on the floor as you startled everyone walking by. some of them were even other groups who were also about to perform. at some point, you pushed past a large group of boys.

they were all quite tall and they had on white outfits. you recognized them but couldn’t quite recall their name at the moment.

something like… the boys?

whatever, you didn’t care, as you dodged all of their arms and legs, causing them to yelp in surprise. after you got through the crowd of them, you halted suddenly when you noticed a man. he had on a matching white outfit as the rest but he seemed to be left behind. he was distracted by something.

a bracelet on his wrist. your bracelet.

you watched as he observed it on his hand.

“it’s pretty cute…” he mumbled to himself, admiring the various shiny colors. “almost like someone cute would make it themself,” he wondered, smiling as he gazed at it.

you gasped, immediately reaching forward and grabbing his wrist in your hand. he sputtered, looking at you as he turned a light shade of red.

“wh- what are you doing?”

“that’s mine,” you exclaimed, trying to pry it off his hand.

“really?” he hurried to take it off as he bowed to apologize. “i’m so sorry, i swear i’m not a thief!” he pleaded. “i just saw it on the floor and i wanted to try it on…” he explained. when he straightened his back, that was when you realized that he was… he was cute.

he had round and bright eyes, cute cheeks, and even cuter lips. for some reason, you started to feel shy as you stared up at him. you started blushing.

“oh no!” you smiled, laughing awkwardly. “it’s okay! it was my fault for losing it so i-”

“yeah, yeah, i get it,” he giggled (adorably dare you say). he smiled at you after. “i’m q by the way. or, a lot of people call me changmin.”

you were in a complete daze as you just stared at him. 

he waved his hand in front of your face.

“hello?” he giggled.

you shook your head, “yes! yes, i’m-”

but then your groupmate suddenly came running down the hall, frantically signaling that it was time to perform.

“i- i have to go so i… i’ll see you around?” you stuttered. oh how badly you wanted to crawl and die in a hole at that moment. but then, he grinned.

“of course,” he laughed. “can’t wait to see your cute face around!” he froze. then he widened his eyes in panic. “i meant! your cute bracelet! i mean-” you heard him mumble to himself. “you’re cute too…”

you giggled and joined your member in the direction of the stage. but, as you walked away, you could hear the rowdy cheers of that same group of boys.

“changmin, you can flirt?!”

“i’m so proud of you…”

“ah, shut up!” you heard his voice yell. “i don’t even know their name yet…”

you smiled to yourself. you’ll make sure to introduce yourself properly next time.

Any idea what Brand Reputation is based on ?

Jimin has been topping it continuesly for years now. Even when he's so active with album, less active or completely ia. He was doing nothing public during end of last year, not even posting a pic on sm still he was topping reputation chart. The only times someone else topped him recently was 1) Jin during TA 2)JK during dreamers. Rest always, it's JM on top. Only BG chart- JM is on top, BG-GG chart - JM on top again. In SK it's NOT easy to surpass female idols and JM has been doing it continuously. Surpassing all IT girls of all generations.

Also I'm so surprised why JK is not in top 3/5 when he had his CK campaign came last month and made lot of waves.

He does the opposite and then says "what are they gonna do, fire me?" We love him and his unapologetic behaviour but, JK is not toping brand reputation anytime soon 😂😂 That's why he rates so low.

I used to confuse Brand reputation and sell out King too. They're not the same. Brand reputation Jimin is always first. Sell out King, our favourite couple interchanges. They are always number 1 and 2. If JK is number 1, Jimin is number 2 and vice versa.
