the idea of "georgina gets irritated with geraldine of all people because the way esme says sweet things to geraldine just to get geraldine to do what she wants and georgina is vaguely jealous" is extremely funny, which in turns irritates beatrice baudelaire because beatrice is aware that georgina never cared about her and considers her irrelevant and while beatrice does her best to get some reaction out of georgina, jealousy or hate or otherwise, she never succeeded and georgina just did not care about her at all, but then there is this smalltime petty reporter who came out of nowhere and georgina takes notice of her and is bothered by her in a way that she has never been bothered by beatrice's existence, and beatrice is so, so annoyed.
and then r, who adores beatrice and is definitely on her side for everything, is also geraldine's coworker (at DP) and she's like B i am absolutely sympathetic but also this is. kind of funny you have to admit.

title: all the news in fits of print
word count: 1.9k
geraldine julienne & moxie mallahan, referenced kidnapping and minor character death, (character death is not explicitly canon but after researching for this fic i am 90% convinced that it is canon)
@whoslaurapalmer's prompt fill for the @asouefanworkevent
Moxie Mallahan took a sip of her now cold tea, sighed, and looked back at the title and byline of the article she was studying from yesterday’s mid afternoon edition of the Daily Punctilio.
Baudelaire Orphans at Large, by Star Reporter Geraldine Julienne.
Moxie was—she suspected—the foremost expert in meta journalism, and her familiarity with the Daily Punctilio through that lens was peerless. This article—the additional title in the byline, the sloppiness of the reporting even by the standards of the Daily Punctilio—struck her as suspicious. Something out of the ordinary might be going on, and Moxie had built her life around investigating suspicions that others might ignore, as was her job as a journalist.
She folded up the newspaper, packed up her portable typewriter, straightened her waistcoat, put on her jacket, laced up her boots, checked the angle of her hat in the mirror, and walked out the door to begin her investigation.

The R - Part 1:
What is the connection between Mr Remora and Duchess R [of Winnipeg]?
One of the many mysteries that Lemony Snicket has left behind for readers (and viewers, to a certain extent) is 'What does the R stand for, in "Duchess R" ?' I am going to attempt to answer this question using any resources available, under the title 'The R'. This will be over a series of unfortunate posts, in this format.
Firstly, we must look for any and all clues that can give us even the slightest hint as to what R might stand for.

Now, let's rule out everyone who does not have a name beginning with R, or is unclear: (again, feel free to skip ahead)
Bald Man with the Long Nose
Mrs. Bass
Henchperson of Indeterminate Gender
Incredibly Deadly Viper
Kind Editor
Man with a Beard but No Hair
Mr. Remora
White-Faced Women
Woman with Hair but No Beard
Wart-Faced Man

Beekeeper
Duchess R
R's Mother
R's Father
Young Rölf
Mr. Spats
Mrs. Spats
Town Fathers
As the title states, we'll keep some focus on Remora, but we'll eliminate all other minor characters:
Bald Man with the Long Nose
Henchperson of Indeterminate Gender
Incredibly Deadly Viper
Kind Editor
Man with a Beard but No Hair
Mr. Remora
White-Faced Women
Woman with Hair but No Beard
Wart-Faced Man
Madame diLustro
Monty Montgomery's Sister
Bertrand Baudelaire's Cousin
Robinson
Duchess R
R's Mother
R's Father
Young Rölf
According to Various Fan Deductions:
TMWABBNH & TWWHBNB are Gifford & Ghede
The White-Faced Women are Zada and Zora
Lemony's Kind Editor is Moxie Mallahan
Madame diLustro is Sunny Baudelaire
This rules out the 4 of them.
Bald Man with the Long Nose
Henchperson of Indeterminate Gender
Incredibly Deadly Viper
Mr. Remora
Wart-Faced Man
Monty Montgomery's Sister
Bertrand Baudelaire's Cousin
Robinson
Duchess R
R's Mother
R's Father
Young Rölf
Logically speaking, why would there be a connection between Ink and Duchess R? Let's eliminate unlikely possibilities:
Mr. Remora
Monty Montgomery's Sister
Bertrand Baudelaire's Cousin
Robinson
Duchess R
R's Mother
R's Father
Young Rölf
Monty Montgomery's sister would be (_insert name here_) Montgomery. This, to me, rules her out too... and the same logic applies to Bertrand's cousin.
Mr. Remora
Robinson
(Duchess R)
(R's Mother)
(R's Father)
Young Rölf
Obviously her family are related:
Mr. Remora
Robinson - Islander
Young Rölf
So, the above names are generated. I will, henceforth, analyse a link between each character and R, starting with Remora.
POINTS:
a. It's known that a few characters in the Snicket-verse have alliterating names, such as Quigley Quagmire, Beatrice Baudelaire.
b. It's also known that some characters have WEIRD connections to others, such as Quigley's 'relation' to Mr Poe.
THEORY: Given a. and b. to be true, Mr R _______ Remora, has some abstract connection to the Duchess.
This connection can only really be established if one goes by Netflix canon and assumes Nero's surname to be Feint, and combines this with ATWQ:
Duchess R is Remora's boss' ancestor's murderer's friend.
R's friend is Lemony, who murdered Hangfire, who is the ancestor of Nero, Remora's boss.

Eoy fic asks: 10, 14, 15!
10. shortest wip of the year
88 words (unfinished drabble so that's either one more sentence or 'fuuuuuck i need to start over slightly differently' length. it's from when i was brainstorming reasons for jaskier to be that buff, and the answer was because geralt believes sword form practice is the answer to all emotional distress and has forcibly imposed this on jaskier)
14. a fic you didn't expect to write
all of them? i expected to finish the yendelion fic--which i did not do, at all--and write something to fill in the gap between witcher season 2 and 3, which I have 10k of but it is still not done! (it's ok, it has a narrative shape, and plot beats now (at least relative to what a meandering character study ought to have), we're getting there.)
i guess the most unexpected was all the news in fits of prints, even though i wrote it for an exchange that i very deliberately signed up for, and selected the prompt i was going to do immediately upon looking at them. i am immensely proud of it, it gets across many things that are immensely important to me in A Series of Unfortunate Events canon, it fits the prompt, but i did not mean to write that! i did not think i thought of geraldine julienne quite like that, but after re-reading large chunks of Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorized Autobiography and timeline plotting, i realizing something i had forgotten and it was the only fic i could write.
15. something i learned this year
i can write longer fic. even if it takes an approximate eternity. i had thought i had only gotten through my only other 10k+ fic by breaking it into normal (for me) fic length chapters that could be written and edited semi-independently, but i am so close. i can do this.

BEGGING FOR ESME CONTENT
!!!! here's another piece --
esme uncapped her lipstick with one hand, the top falling back into her purse, her other hand already raising her compact up to her face. if she angled it just right, she caught geraldine julienne’s eye across the lobby. she could see geraldine standing stock-still in the corner of the reflection, caught and wavering in esme’s hand as she did her lipstick. when she was done, she snapped the compact shut, and geraldine was hurrying to her side.
“geraldine, darling,” esme said, “i’ve got this brilliant idea for a new punctilio column. something the people have just got to know.”
