Compounded time in nature
One of my favourite geological features are rocks within rocks like the one in the picture. For me they beautifully encapsulate passage of time at scale that is not comprehensible by human beings.
This boulder is at least 200 million years old and yet it contains other rocks that must have formed before it. So, the cumulative time encapsulated by this simple boulder is much greater than what already is vast antiquity.
Southcoast NSW, Australia.

You know, studying is not that bad. We all like to learn things, we are curious. It's classroom learning that's boring and takes the joy out of studies. So don't sit with the material you have to learn just rereading it and trying to understand what you can and memorising what you can't.
Treat your academics like a freaking fantasy book. Studying Language? Imagine yourself speaking the language you are learning to native speakers. In front of your relatives. Who don't know what the hell is going on. Science? No problem, it's even better. Imagine yourselves a part of what you are learning about- like just imagine being an electron in a crowd of them.
Or make puns out of stuff that's exhausting to learn. A cation is pawsitive cause a cat has paws. An anion is negative cause onions make you cry. Phyics is getting confusing? Close you book once you've gotten the concept to an extent and try to visualise it as happening in your room. (My physics teacher used to jump around the room making exaggerated hand gestures to help us visualise the concepts he was teaching).
Make a little song out of math formulas. Tell yourself bad dad jokes that fit into what you are learning when you are memorising the steps to solve an equation.
History and Geography could be the funnest. Imagine yourself as a giant monster looking at the Earth and scratching latitudes and longitudes on earth with your long nails, evilly laughing as you scratch the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn on 23.5° North and South 'cause the 235th King missed to send his offering. Make a story out of it. Imagine being a citizen of Mesopotamia and watching events unfold rather than rereading it again and again in hopes to remember it.
Learning and studying can never be as entertaining as mindlessly watching youtube videos, but it doesn't have to as traumatisingly bland as school taught us.
Screw the calm nerd stereotype, go crazy with the material you've got to deal with anyway. Make yourself a part of it. Make it entertaining for yourself. At the very least, it'll help prevent a burnout. At most, you might just fall in love with the subject.

how to study for social studies subjects
I’d like to think that one of my strongest focuses is social studies. I love learning about history, economics, government, e.t.c. and I do well on tests! I thought that most people had it easy when it came to these subjects, but throughout working with peers and friends, I realized that wasn’t true, so here are some tips to get through those subjects:
Memorizing will be your friend: This is one of my biggest tips that I still use for my social studies subjects. Memorize, memorize, memorize! Of course, you should first understand a concept or term before memorizing it, but it helps so much to know words. I use quizlet and knowt.io to help me memorize, but you can use a variety of ways to remember. This is especially helpful for tests, as you can help fill in the blank when reading through questions and other readings.
Trick your brain: One of the reasons I was so good at social studies subjects was because I was interested in politics and government. I’m really interested in the controversial aspect of politics, which helped me understand forms and branches of government, how the economy works, e.t.c. I’ve recently heard this tip on the internet, where people trick their brain into thinking that the subject they are learning is like lore for a tv show or novel, and it worked. Your brain will probably be more likely to learn if you make it enjoyable.
Use a variety of resources: A lot of social studies subjects will have more interesting and engaging resources to use, rather than like physics with a boring textbook and some reference videos. Topics like politics will have a wide variety of books, articles, news reports, movies, and even TV shows covering them. After understanding the concepts and things you may need to know, watching a political TV show can be a form of studying! You can learn to apply, discuss, and critique different forms and resources to apply to the thing you are studying.
Find ways to connect to the modern world: Social studies subjects are one of the easiest to connect to the media and the news; you will often find articles and reporters speaking about the economy, what's going on in the supreme court, and who is voting or pushing for what agenda. If you ever need to find examples to help you learn and study, just watch the news! It’s a great resource, and can help you apply what you are learning to the real world. Oftentimes, test-makers will give a question set in a scenario, where a country is going into a recession and you may have to explain ways to solve or help it e.t.c. so the news is a great resource to see it real time.

this is my first ever update post!! this is incredible exciting!!
the morning was spent reading the secret history - i’m officially half way through! at bough it’s taken me far too long to read (reading slump was a killer), i’m CAPTIVATED by it
today was all about group projects and coffee
sat for hours in a coffee shop working on and wrapping a geography project
i’ve never been more educated on the protection of countryside before
the winter months are here and the sun set speedily, leaving us to rely on fairy lights
today was lovely and (despite the chatting and much needed coffee orders) productive!
media of the day
starman - david bowie
glue song - beabadoobe
the secret history - donna tart
all the young dudes - mskingbean
thats the lot :) LOVE!

東経(とうけい)east longitude
西経(せいけい)west longitude
英訳 If we take a look at a globe, we can see that there are many lines drawn on it. Through these meridian and parallel lines we can point out locations on earth. First, let's take a look at the red line. It is called the equator and is at 0°. Going northward is the nothern latitude; going southward is the southern latitude. At 90° north latitude lies the North Pole. At 90° south latitude is the South Pole. The lines connecting the North and the South Pole are the meridians. The longitude 0° is today a meridian which goes through the Old Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England. From there on, going eastward is the east longitude and going westward is the west longitude. Just like adding the address when we write a letter to a friend, we can use latitude and longitude to indicate a specific location on earth.

sometimes i get a bit scared being in this old uni building late at night because it's allegedly haunted. but then i remember that 1) i don't believe in ghosts and 2) even if there were any, i can't get mad at a little guy who runs around this place late at night wishing he could leave cause that's what i do too. difference is i actually will in a few days.
have decided to focus in on a smaller number of assessments and apply to have the other ones discounted, so the total number of words needed is less than it was, but the progress i'd written on some of the now discounted assessments is also gone

Frog Rock
The frog rock is a granite boulder which was fractured and weathered by natural processes that made it develop a shape that resembles a crouching frog. This is an example of pareidolia, which is a human tendency of seeing shapes of animals, human faces etc. in inanimate objects.

Introduction To This Account
Tumblr media
I’ve never even posted on tumblr before, and I’m not entirely sure how studyblr works, but it’s what I’m going to be calling this.
My point in making this is just to help me keep on top of my school work - sort of keep myself organised but also track my habits and progress. 👍👍
- I’m studying biology, chemistry and geography at a-level
- I’m 16
- I hope to eventually go to university and study to get a career mainly biology related (since everybody knows it’s the best science by a long shot)
- I LOVE stem subjects, except for maths. I aced my science GCSEs and just BARELY scraped a 5 In maths, the first 5 I ever got. Maths is not welcome on this account 😔
- I’m super into things marvel related too, so that may end up tying into what I post
I’ll mainly be recording things I get done in the day to do with revision, and write down my goals for the next week etc. I’ll probably also track things not entirely school related, like how I’m learning French at the moment.
My eventual goals are:
- get the best grades I can in my A-Levels, though I’m not sure what that’ll be until I start in September
- get into my university of choice, which again I’m still not quite fully decided on yet 😅
- complete all my non-school related goals (such as finishing learning French, improving my crochet skills and picking up the keyboard that’s been collecting dust under my bed for 3 years)
- overall just trying to have fun while I push through the next two years 🎉
