Lmao I'm so happy I canceled @netflix . Just fuck them. We already know this is their approach but it's frustrating that they won't even acknowledge the flaw in it and how it specifically affects queer, Black and poc audiences. They KNOW that a queer show will likely only attract a queer audience. They know a show with a majority Black cast will attract a Black audience. Same for other POC-led projects Iike Gentefied. They know what they're greenlighting when they greenlight it. And they know how much it'll cost. They know beforehand what they could anticipate in terms of streams and obviously what a series would cost to produce. They just wanna pad their catalog with "diverse" projects. They're unwilling to adjust their expectations for the audience the content is made for (or "talks to" 🙄) and want universal audiences to tune in, and we lose that content when they don't. And they make NO EFFORT to market the targeted shows to a wide audience. First Kill had a very well-written, very tight Black family at the center of it along with the Fairmonts. We've been wanting to see this more in the supernatural genre. Did Netflix make an effort to engage the Black community besides a post or two from the Strong Black Lead social media accounts? They don't do shit to get that larger audience. They don't do shit to market to the audience it's even intended for, tbh. Cause every minority-led Netflix original I know got recognition by word-of-mouth. They don't do anything for small budget series but complain about the budget not being small enough and kill them.

To those who like The Bear (2022), I want to recommend another show called Gentefied (2020). It's on Netflix.
Gentefied also focuses on a dysfunctional but loving group of people trying to save a family restaurant. The show does lean a bit more towards comedy but that doesn't prevent it from landing some heavy emotional punches. The show has two seasons and manages to create a very satisfying narrative.

Talos' 'plan' to Gi'ah sounds so much like Casimiro having to show why he deserves to stay and become a us citizen on tv and i was really hoping we got to explore that more.
Like explore why the us (and other countries) make you, a person in need of asylum, jump through hoops to stay here when we have nowhere else to go.

Why are all the series I've watched lately featuring Mexican American protagonists and families end up getting cancelled. Ahhhhh. And on essentially cliffhangers/and or where obviously so many things are left unresolved and the series could have continued.
All the series I've watched with this being the case are:
Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion
Gentefied
Party of Five
Vida
George Lopez
Currently watching The Imperfects on Netflix, but I know that was cancelled too 😭
This is why we can't have nice things

🏋️‍♂️🍽️Joseph Julian Soria shares his basic approach to training, which dates back to his active youth and a brief period of being overweight. He focuses on his former eating and exercise discipline and his present efforts to maintain it. He hilariously recounts how rapidly things can spiral out of control when discipline is lost, resulting in unforeseen effects such as eating oneself into a "food coma."
🏅🎬His transition from athlete to actor is examined, exposing how a college theater class influenced his career path. He discusses his competitive mentality and dealing with professional lows, highlighting the value of self-belief and self-awareness. JJ embraces discomfort, learning from past experiences, and her eagerness for future prospects. He encourages listeners to embrace their brilliance and not limit themselves from reaching their full potential.
💪👫His girlfriend's observation of possible body dysmorphia. Despite not being physically where he wants to be, he emphasizes the significance of attaining inner serenity. JJ addresses his addiction to difficulties, which extends beyond fitness and into other facets of his life, including relationships and performing. He recounts personal experiences about battling difficult circumstances and getting inspiration from motivational speakers such as Eric Thomas.
🎭🌟JJ Soria has received praise for his explosive performances, most notably as Private First Class Hector Cruz in the hit Lifetime series Army Wives and Pete Ramos in The Oath. His depiction of the major antagonist, MC Wyatt, in the Sundance Film Festival-premiered film Filly Brown, which stars Gina Rodriguez, demonstrated his range and talent. Soria's performances in films as disparate as All She Can (2011), High School (2010), and Fast to Furious (2009) have constantly been compelling. Notably, his major role in the independent film Mission Park (later renamed Line of Duty) cemented his place in the business. To learn more about JJ Soria's outstanding body of work, see his IMDB page or follow him on Instagram. He currently captivates fans as Erik Morales in the smash Netflix original series Gentefied.
🌱🌟Throughout with resilience, self-awareness, and self-improvement, JJ emerges from his experiences, both inspiring and a reminder of the necessity of facing adversity and believing in oneself. The discussion focuses on the fleeting nature of life and the importance of grabbing opportunities to grow and succeed. He provides insight into his attitude and path, with motivating undertones that encourage listeners to follow their goals with tenacity and self-confidence.

March 21, 2023
Ahead of the latest study’s measurement period, the cancellation of Batwoman, Charmed, DC’s Legend of Tomorrow, 4400, Legacies and Naomi (on just The CW alone), plus Killing Eve, Claws, Dickinson, Astrid and Lily Save the World, The Wilds, Genera+ion, Y: The Last Man, Dear White People, Gentefied and Saved by the Bell (to name but a few), had already made a dent in LGBTQ representation.
But as reflected in this year’s report, the ending or upcoming ending of 54 shows such as Queer as Folk (which was home to 11 LBGTQ characters), Warrior Nun, Star Trek: Picard, Westworld, New Amsterdam, Reboot, Nancy Drew and Riverdale will result in the loss of no fewer than 140 LGBTQ characters — or 24 percent of all LGBTQ characters on TV. An additional 35 LGBTQ characters counted in this year’s study (which monitors shows that premiered or are expected to return between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023) will not be returning due to a character leaving the series or a closed-ended anthology or miniseries format.
Bisexual representation is still sad. Asexual representation is still tragic.
* Of the 596 LGBTQ characters counted across all three platforms, 35% were gay men, 30% were lesbians, 25% were bisexual+, 4% were queer, 2% were straight trans characters, 2% had an undetermined sexual orientation, and 1% were asexual.
[...]
Que
*The percentage of bisexual+ characters on TV (25%) continues to land far below the actual population of bisexual+ people, which account for 58% the LGBTQ community (per Gallup).
