Summary:

Bucky, a siren from the sea, hears a band playing near the shore, so he swims over to take a look.

This is when he meets Steve, a musician. At first, Bucky wants to eat Steve, but instead Bucky is adopted into Steve's band and his cabaret show. They perform together, and Bucky quickly falls for Steve.

Unfortunately, Steve is already engaged to someone else.

Bucky's siren sister comes to the surface to remind Bucky that if he isn't careful with his heart he could turn into sea foam.

Domestic Steve/Bucky, Peter being a good nephew, and a whole lot of Emotional Hurt/Comfort

“Pretty much,” Natasha replies. “He can contest it. He can refuse it. You can also never show him. Doesn’t have to matter.”

Bucky nods. Doesn’t have to matter. Doesn’t have to matter that he went to his best friend and colleague to have divorce papers drawn out, all in proper legal jargon, because he’s been thinking about divorce for months and months and told no one.

Not even his husband.

Bucky and Steve have been together all their lives. Bucky thought they would have made it, that they were the other half of the statistics. He thought they would have found their way to each other in the end. Life is funny like that sometimes.

It’s called Home Is Where the Heart Is (And Where You Get to be Yourself). It’s a sort of introspective recovery fic from Bucky’s POV, placed in Wakanda an inspired by Seb’s beautiful and heartbreaking scene in TFATWS episode 3. It features protective Steve, angst, fluff and forehead kisses!

The words register clearly enough, but it’s like the emotional reaction that should be happening, haven’t gotten the memo yet, like there is some sort of wall between his thoughts and and his body.

Or maybe it’s just that it all seems a bit anticlimactic. They’ve been working towards this for months. Having the culmination of all that work be that nothing is happening might fit the success criteria for the whole operation, but yeah.

Anticlimactic describes it pretty well.

He will never be the old Bucky again.

But at least he is himself.

As the realization of what that means begins to take over, a trivial fact arises and slowly but surely fills up his body, replacing the numb feeling bit by bit:

Every small action he makes will be his own from now on.”

Or: Bucky is rid of Hydras programming. He need a bit of time (and Steve) to process it.

Inspired by Sebastian Stan’s phenomenal and heartbreaking performance in episode 3 of TFATWS.

Wildest Dreams

I just found this thing and it’s semi-short but so sweet.  It’s a sort of 5+1 fic with domestic Avengers and some smut and just total fluffiness. It’s canon Steve/Bucky, and how everyone finds out about Steve and Bucky together, and then about how they all see it at once. Everything by this author is amazing.
