Re: Micky Mouse in horror projects apparently getting a bug up people's butts:

I'm not up on whatever projects are in the works, but please understand: some of the impetus for using Mickey in horror projects is a middle finger at the control of corporations.

I don't have any particular beefs with Mickey as a character, but I do have a lot of beefs with him as a symbol. I would love to see him ripped apart by demons or whatever and have someone who isn't Disney make money off it because fuck how out of control copyright is, and fuck how so much of it specifically Disney's fault.

It's catharsis, in the same way as a lot of other horror. It is seeing a Symbol burned in effigy because burning the real thing would be unethical. It's not like we can or should line up the corporate lobbyists, high-ranking corporate officials, rich Disney shareholders, and the like who got us into this situation and execute them. As a group they might be greedy scumbags who are destroying the commons for a single corn chip, but they're still people. Even if I was into the death penalty, and I'm not, "doesn't let people use things that should rightly be the public's domain" doesn't exactly rise to that level.

But there is a lot of real, justified anger at the whole situation with copyright here, and that has to go somewhere. Taking out your intrusive thoughts on fictional characters is a time-honoured and safe way to sublimate anger.

I'm not saying any given project has such high-minded goals in mind, but, like. There is an audience there. Some of that audience is irony-poisoned folks looking for lulz, and some of that audience are folks who want to throttle that fucking mouse because of what he symbolizes. (And some of that audience is just going to be folks curious to see what people do with a new public domain character. The fact that this is where people are going and wasn't particularly when, say, The Great Gatsby fell into the public domain undoubtedly says something interesting.)

If that doesn't do it for you, that is completely fine. I'll probably enjoy more wholesome public domain Mickey Mouse stuff, too. Like I say, I don't have any particular issues with the character as a fictional person. He seems fine.

But for fuck's sake, let people have their chew toy, too. Maybe if Disney hadn't been such a shitty company there wouldn't be this anger to work out, but here we are.

(every name from now on is character unless specified otherwise)

from his perspective, it makes sense. i mean, none of them are real, right? they either aren't real, or they are and they're out to get him. and we don't know if that's true or not, either

and if they're not real, why should he care about morality? just to get an advantage, really. the only reasons he has to be nice to people is if doing so would benefit him. because they don't care, they aren't real. they're just coded to seem as if they do, as if they are. and maybe sometimes it works and it feels painfully real, but they aren't, in the end—they're all just code. it's all a façade, it's all fake, it's not real.

and yet—

graecie: yknow.. maybe.. it's because it matches the energy that you give to it. d'you ever think about that?

graecie: do you ever think about how a little bit of kindness can go a long way, in these seas.

martyn: we've tried that, it doesn't get us anywhere.

gracie: have you? have you tried that? have you tried that, really? have both of you tried that?

martyn: from day dot! first thing that happened when i got here was i got swindled by scar!

martyn: then there was all this factioning business, we saw aimsey literally perish, and everyone was just "ohhh i think we'll listen to the robed figures and we'll just leave"! nobody's tried anything to save one another here, it's just all been selfish, me me me me me, gold gold gold, glory glory glory, HONOUR HONOUR HONOUR!

—he doesn't like it when others are selfish. because they're supposed to behave like everyone is real. they should be nicer people, they should be better, they don't have an excuse like martyn's.

and he's tired of trusting people without reason, of getting taken advantage of, of being nice just to end up worse off in the end.

and he doesn't get attached to anything or anyone, because there's a very real chance he'll lose it, especially in his circumstances. and feeling any sort of attachment is dangerous.

martyn: i've got the stone. i've got a lead. i know cruppy's trigger word now, so if it ever decides to come near me again... can easily get rid of it.

martyn: idiots. all of em.

and he's happily petty and stubborn about things. he happily takes advantage of others' discomfort to get them to do what he wants or at least lower their confidence in doing anything else.

martyn knows how to trigger cruppy, even, and has no problems with utilizing cruppy's triggers (and what is very possibly trauma) to get what he wants.

and as much as cruppy may have done some shit, as much as cruppy is a perfectly reasonable thing to worry about—cruppy doesn't act out of pure unprompted malice, and definitely doesn't deserve to be tortured and triggered over and over again.

and i don't doubt that martyn knows this. he's able to identify trauma responses—both others', and his own:

—he's able to effectively utilize that knowledge to get what he wants. i think martyn is aware that what he is or at least was doing is wrong.

i just think he doesn't care that it's wrong. because if nobody else is real, if nobody else is actually experiencing any of this, then it isn't wrong, right?

martyn knows he's manipulative, he knows how to gaslight and knows he's good at it, and he's not afraid to utilize that.

martyn is his own top priority. he'll do what he has to to get what he needs. it isn't actually harming anyone, from his perspective. it just looks like it is. they aren't real, it doesn't actually cause harm.

(it's what martyn tells himself, at the very least. it's not like he can concretely tell, it's not like he can confirm. but he'd rather believe they aren't real than are, because if they are... well, he's a bit too deep into this mess to worry about that now, isn't he?)

The thing no one likes to tell you about being traumatized, especially when it comes to romantic relationships, is that there are going to be times you miss or even crave the toxic shit that happened

I don't really have a "before the trauma" part of my life, because my entire life has just been traumatic. I was taught very very young that love hurts, and to my young mind that translated so easily into "if you aren't being hurt, you aren't being loved"

And so throughout my life whenever I've found myself in a healing place, I self sabotage so quickly by finding a relationship and seeing red flags and ignoring them

I retraumatized myself so many times before I got to a place where I was actually able to start healing

And that doesn't change the fact that I got fucking traumatized by those relationships. They were awful and abusive.

I looked for the relationship, but it doesn't change that the relationship caused me harm.

Because it was a form of self harm

I'm so tired of people acting like "well they put themselves in that situation" changes the fact that "that situation" is still traumatizing

I'm in a place i can heal now. And I am healing. I still get that feeling of missing that hell I was used to. I've got a support group now though, and they help me with that shit.

I'm just so sick of people just never talking about the fact that trauma trains you to think that it's normal. And when you think something is normal, suddenly what's actually good for you is horrifying and not right. That's going to cause issues and bad coping mechanisms.

People just don't address it and it sucks because it's something that people should talk about

Villain whumpers who aren’t interested in captivity. They just love to antagonize the hero, do they care about stealing or blowing up the city, no not that much. But they love getting on hero’s nerves and beating them and mentally dragging them down until they can hardly do it anymore, and then just moving onto a new hero when it gets to boring for them

Androids, or human whumpees inside mech suits that get ripped to shreds during a fight so that the circuitry is exposed

Average whumpees, whumpees who aren’t super muscular and have more realistic proportions, whether they are large, medium, or small

Caretaker with some sort of trauma already in their past, and they’re desperate to protect whumpee, who’s probably someone older. The caretaker— having been scarred and trying to grasp at any bonds they have made as comfort— takes care of the person who should probably be taking care of them, and then, when the whumper comes in and does what they know best, the caretaker goes ballistic. They do unexpected, dangerous things to themselves behind whumpee’s back. They get themselves so deep in their deals with whumper just to be able to get whumpee out, because caretaker would inflict pain on an entire continent before letting whumpee go. And when the whumpee’s out, caretaker is too far in to turn back now… maybe they’ll force the whumpee back, they’ll be safer with them anyways…

Monster whump. More claws, wings, fur, long ears, tails

More queerplatonic Whumpee/Caretaker relationships

Female whump (that isn't non-con). Ladies can break their arms and get kicked in the gut too

Being conditioned into submission and having trouble shaking it, i.e. even days after the shock collar has been removed they still almost never speak unless spoken to

That trope where the group has to explore their loved one’s mindscape to save them and secret trauma is revealed in their memories

Being presented with a fear that is wholly mind numbing and the annoying character not poking fun at the one that's scare

“Phantom pain” but not in the traditional amputee sense, e.g. whumpee’s arm gets cut off in a corrupted video game and he still feels the pain of it IRL despite his real-life arm being intact…or alternative forms perhaps being: sharing a soul with someone and feeling the pain that they feel, characters with past lives feeling old injuries from their predecessors, or a mecha story where damage done to the mech is felt by its pilot

The plot allowing enough time for a newly disfigured character to process and grieve over their new appearance, e.g. Spiderman 3; the worst/best part is Peter did this to him, which adds that best-friends-do-permanent-damage-to-each-other-but-they-remain-good-friends layer. They could overcome that sense of betrayal, even if Harry ended up dying

Character getting kidnapped while sick

Teams saving someone from hypothermia

Colleagues as caretakers

Seizure aftercare

Dehydration after a long spell somewhere hot, like working hard outside, and whumpee doesn’t feel the heat exhaustion and dehydration creep up on them, which can lead to a fever

General extremes of heat, when someone pushes their own body to the limit and doesn’t realize until it’s too late, and their coworkers and friends have to pick up the pieces, leading to some pretty difficult conversations about looking after yourself and listening to your own needs

Whumpee leaves or disappears and after some time is found again with a big injury by caretaker with no context

Brainwashed Whumpee randomly switching between their brainwashed personality and their original one. Top tier: the original is stoic and grouchy but the brainwashed is either really goofy or lovey-dovey - and their loved ones go from finding this funny, to finding it unsettling because the original personality is reacting to it with terror

Shapeshifting whumpers. Whumpers that can effortlessly infiltrate and adapt to whumpees' friend circle even before (or after) whump. Whumpers that shapeshift into whumpee's loved ones during whump. Whumpers that basically catfish whumpee by turning into multiple different people and all "befriending" Whumpee, just to see the look on whumpee's face after the "I have friends who will find me" moment

Older pet whumpees, e.g. pets on the verge of being put down or past their prime time of use being berated for being so slow and weak and useless. Pets knowing they’re on borrowed time and knowing that their master is so merciful as to keep their worthless ass alive

Impalement through the neck/strung up by the neck

Being forced to apologize to everyone for making them worry while you were being tortured/otherwise suffering

Whumpees who aren't male and white

Redeemed villains that are too scared to ask for help and they end up hiding all their injuries from the hero(es)

Light cw for discussion of DID symptoms/accepting having DID

Honestly having DID is really scary to me, even things that I might do are still scary to come back to. I would go out on my own but it's disconcerting to find myself in a nightclub at 1am when I didn't want to go out and when I don't always know where I am or where my things are. I appreciate the fact that people acknowledge that you can live a healthy and fulfilling life with DID, but I also wish that more people talked about that during the first few years of treatment it can be really draining and terrifying. We're in a much better spot than we were, and I would say I have a pretty positive relationship with my alters at this point, but it can still be really scary to know you're forgetting things and doing things you wouldn't necessarily choose to do, and I think going through that fear after diagnosis is normal.

This picture inspired some mermaid whump thoughts. I don’t know who the artist is, but full and complete credit to them.

This post is vague but still is about whump (this is more just me ranting about mermaids and whump)

cw: BBU (box boy universe), tiny whumpee, giant whumpee, mermaid whumpee, genderless whumpee, medical whump, magic whump, drugging, training, whipping, beating, tying up (lol is there a term for this? physical restraints?), asphyxiation, and drowning. All are mentioned but nothing is crazy detailed!

- Mermaid whumpees come in all different sizes! Just like fish: Guppies, Carp, Arapaima, or Whale Sharks!

A tiny, little whumpee mermaid, small enough to fit in a metal sardine can. The packaging is ironic and amusing to Whumper, who ordered the little fishy as a way to treat themselves.

Slightly bigger mermaids the size of house cats, large enough to swaddle like a wet aqua baby!!! Maybe a little cuddle comfort after being whipped :D.

Mermaids the size of large dogs (Mastiffs or Great Danes), a little smaller than humans, so perfect for dragging around by the tail~

Giant, slow mermaids the size of whale sharks. It would be hard to keep them obedient with just the threat of force, so maybe a little magic whump, psychological whump, or medical drugging whump would be needed! Lots of interesting possibilities with giant whumpees!

- Mermaid whumpees come in all shades and colors!

Vibrant pinks and oranges like coral,

Shimmery oranges and yellow like goldfish,

Striped like Angel fish,

Light on the belly and dark on the top like sharks,

Rich purples, reds, and blues like Betta fish

Whumpers who collect whumpees want to one day have one mermaid of every color and shade to look at and touch. Or, Whumper likes to show off their mermaids and train them to perform dances and tricks based on their colors (dancing with ribbons or fans that match their colors).

- Cool features of different fish species have stayed present in some mermaid races.

The ability for tiny, clownfish mermaids to touch anemone that would otherwise harm other mermaid races.

For pufferfish mermaids to be able to blow up their tail to ward off predators. It doesn’t work well on Whumpers who capture them in nets tho :,(

Shark mermaids can’t stop swimming or else they sink! Some sharks must swim to breathe, but others can breathe while stationary. Sharks don’t have swim bladders, so they can move from shallow waters to very deep waters with no risk of a swim bladder exploding (since they don’t have one). Fish mermaids have swim bladders, so they cannot undergo extreme depth changes!

Whumper likes to force shark mermaids to stop swimming so they can watch them sink and rise and sink and rise and sink and rise. Simply for Whumper’s amusement. If whumpee sinks or rises without being commanded to do so, Whumper weighs their fins down so they can’t move anymore :]

An eel mermaid whumpees can range from 2 inches to 13 feet, like real eel species. Some eels actually breathe oxygen through the air, so they need to resurface to breathe every ≈10 minutes. Whumper really enjoys making whumpee stay under the water for until they nearly pass out to see how long they can go without air. Their record is 12 minutes and 4 seconds <3.

i feel so stupid trying to justify my mentally illlness for exam adjustments in the application proces for them like i just get the overwhelming feeling that im not actually ill enough to deserve adjustments ?? like yeah im struggling but isnt everyone struggling . i feel like i do bad because im stupid and also because i have no self discipline which isnt actually a disorder . esp because i dont have panic attacks (unless theyre insect related) or like whatever else is on the list of symptoms im just like constantly stressed and occasionally want to crawl out of my skin (which is why i literally didnt even process that i had anxiety until like. two years ago . when i spent like at least 5 years prior being the most anxious person in the world around academics but to me getting easily stressed was a completely different thing to anxiety because the words are different)
