There need to be more Gender fluid people in fiction. Gender Fluid people should be seen and see people like them. I open a book and look it is person with one gender, again. I want to see people we more than one gender. People who change gender. People like me. I don’t want to see someone who has a single fixed as much as I do. I want to see people like me! Why don’t I have that? Why don’t I see people like me? Hummmmm!!!??? I am valid. And I am here. So show me people who have many genders! Show me people who change genders like the sea changes! Like the wind and the land and the season! Show me people who are like me and like many other who are not seen ever!
I am here and I will be seen.
So show me myself.

The genderfluid representation I personally really want to see one day is a reoccurring background/supporting character in a movie/series that just sometimes presents feminine for a few days but then that same character presents masculine next few days, then one feminine day again then you can't even tell
and everyone just uses whatever pronouns for them and noone says anything about the changing presentation the character just exists there and we know it's still the same character and noone calls them genderfluid it's just commonly understood this character is fluid and it's no big deal no profound struggle no "true" sex or gender reveal it's just Sam from the coffee shop he makes the best lattes and she gives a discount to the main character for protagonist reasons
Alternatively every character that knows them thinks they're a different gender Stacy thinks Sam's a girl and has a crush on her, Billy is convinced Sam's a guy and does a handshake with him and they call each other bro, Max is too embarrassed to ask so they just always use they/them pronouns for Sam
It's never "revealed" which pronoun is right because they all are sometimes

Here is why many people dislike Sylvie. Not everyone who dislikes her is misogynistic or shit. As you can see from my pfp and my posts I like her, but this part of her character should have been written by someone who actually knows what genderfluidity is.
Here is a post who explains why she and the Sylki ship are a bad genderfluid representation:

Okay, question:
So I'm writing a book where one of the main characters is genderfluid and I am not sure what the best way to write that is. I myself am genderfluid so I know like the experience of it but I cant figure out how to show that to the readers.
So... genderfluid writers... tips?
Also, do y'all have any good recs for genderfluid rep in books?
I figured I should ask <3

More random headcanons about Marvel characters, all revolving around their mental health and sexual/gender orientation. This time it's Wanda, Loki, and Clint!
TW: Mentions of self-harm in Wanda and Loki's bit.
Tumblr media
Wanda is also pansexual (Like Tony, if you read my other post). That's part of the reason she was so open to her feelings towards Vision, she just... doesn't really care? As long as they treat her well and are overall good people, it doesn't matter if they're human or what their gender is. She has severe anxiety, crippling depression, and severe PTSD. Since she got her powers, and especially since the event in Africa with Steve in CW, she's been incredibly afraid of herself and her powers. For the longest time after that, she refused to use her powers for trivial things like she used to, and even when on missions, it took a lot of encouraging to get her to use her powers unless absolutely necessary. She was trained in hand-to-hand combat by Steve and Natasha, and she was also taught how to use weapons like guns and knives by Natasha, so, for the most part, she could get away with not using her powers. Clint, who took her in during her hard times and basically acts like her father, also gave her a few lessons on how to use a bow-and-arrow, even if she's still not very good at it. I also headcanon that she self-harmed for years, mainly using cutting as her outlet for her stronger emotions rather than other healthier or worse coping mechanisms. Pietro never really found out about the extent of it, as she always wore long sleeves, and once he did find out, she simply stopped cutting her arms and moved to her thighs. She also picked up smoking a little before her and Pietro found Hydra, quit a little after AoU after a lot of convincing between Natasha, Steve, and Vision, picked the habit back up after CW and just... hasn't quit since, even if she really wants to. Somedays she can't even get out of bed just to get to the bathroom, relying on Vision or whoever else you headcanon as her lover to aid her in tasks such as eating, using the bathroom, showering or taking a bath, brushing her teeth, or other small tasks that take a lot of effort for her during her depressive episodes.
Tumblr media
Now, this is canon, but Loki is genderfluid and bisexual. They use all pronouns, depending on how they feel day-by-day, so I'm going to be switching between he, she, and they. Loki has PTSD, severe anxiety, and severe depression. The anxiety and PTSD mainly is about his abandonment issues, coming from the way Odin lied to them and then threw her down into the dungeons. Loki is incredibly good at hiding her depression, though, always creating an illusion (no pun intended) of being this mischievous, sarcastic, rude person instead of the broken-down man that they are. Loki, like Wanda, has a long history of self-harm, alternating between cutting and burning. Whenever their feelings would get a bit too much for her to take, they'd pull out their trusty blade and mutilate their arms and, sometimes, his thighs or stomach. And whenever their feelings got way, way too much, to the point where cutting was no longer helping or relieving the mental pain coursing through him, the would turn to burning. In Asgard, there aren't cigarettes, but instead cigars and pipes. As the youngest daughter of the royal family, they always got the expensive gold-crested cigars. He would simply light the cigar up, smoke for a few minutes and maybe blow some of the smoke in Thor's face just to bother him, before scurrying away to his room and doing what he felt needed to be done. For years, he only ever wore clothing items with longer sleeves, but after a few years, they just... stopped caring if anybody saw his scars. She figured, if the general public just saw them as a monster, who'd care if they had scars?
Tumblr media
Clint is obviously hard-of-hearing, and while that's not related to his mental health or sexual/gender orientation, I absolutely despise the way the MCU basically got rid of that part of his character until Hawkeye, so I'm gonna mention it anyway. Clint is straight but has ADD, severe PTSD, anxiety, and depression that can sometimes become crippling if triggered. The only people who understand the extent of his depression are his wife, Laura, and Natasha. The older Cooper and Lila get, they seem to notice when their dad won't get out of bed and take a shower or when he seems so... down, like he's just a shell of a person for a few months. Him and Laura are pretty sure they've figured out what's wrong with their dad and are trying their hardest to shield their little brother, Nathaniel, from seeing their dad like that, which Clint appreciates greatly. Whenever Clint gets in one of his depressive episodes, he tries to beg Fury for more missions and acts a lot more recklessly because of how lost in his thoughts he is during these times. Laura only clicks her tongue, sighs and debates whether it's even worth lecturing him about before lovingly patching up her husband's bullet, arrow, or stab wounds. Whenever Clint gets overwhelmed, he turns down his hearing aids or just entirely turns them off, handing them to either Laura or Natasha to keep safe because he always ends up losing them or breaking them and having to ask Tony to make him a new pair. His anxiety usually comes in when he meets new people, always thinking that they're gonna hate him and think he's the worst person to ever walk this earth. It also spikes up when he thinks of maybe the people he loves the most, like Laura, his kids, and Natasha, suddenly changing their mind about him and thinking that, because of his past mistakes, he's a horrible, horrible person.
That's it, guys! This is going to be a series of sorts, I think. So far, I've done Tony, Bruce, Peter, Wanda, Loki, and Clint. I'm also planning to do, in no particular order, Natasha, Steve, Thor, Rhodey, Sam, VIsion, Pietro, Bucky, Yelena, and Kate, along with a few other random characters that I don't personally consider Avengers. Anyways, Bye, see you all sometime soon!

i’m gonna talk about gender in good omens now, uh spoiler-y talk under the cut but i probably won’t mention anything specific, so you’ll be fine if you’re curious
it’s pretty clear that Crowley is some form of genderfluid throughout the series, with femme presenting forms over his existence (see: Nanny, and that one time near Moses times), as well as a sort of “gender apathy” in general (see “good lad/ not actually, either”), and i absolutely love the acceptance of that in the community.
Beelzebub is quite obviously non-binary, and it’s interesting to see that s1 Beelzebub is more masculine-faced while s2 is more feminine-faced, and all the while literally everyone genders them correctly. Lovely.
It’s nice to see complex representation in Good Omens, especially since there’s a bit of ambiguity around how angels and demons identify their gender, or if they’re too busy doing various things.
Uh, I don’t really have an interesting way to end this but gender is fun.
byebye,
Velociraptor :)

One thing I don't think people fully understand the importance of, is diversity shown to children.
For example, I was shopping the other day, and there was a Muslim doll, with all the other dolls. Two boys, must have been no more than five, got really excited, they were delighted to see representation of themselves
Another example, when I was younger, I read a book that involved queer characters. I fully believe that it contributed greatly to my self acceptance, and understanding of myself.
Representation is important.

We need better queer representation in shows movies and books
We need queer POC
We need people who don't want to label their gender or sexuality
We need trans people who's transition goals aren't to look cis
We need queer people with diverse religions
We need queer people who use pronouns that don't "match" their gender
We need aromantic and asexual characters
We need disabled queer people
We need queer people who use multiple labels for themselves
We need queer people who's entire personality isn't being queer
We need queer people who aren't just there because of romance
We need real and diverse queer people in the media

I'm processing a lot of emotions tonight and I keep being drawn back to Good Omens--not just because it's the new hyperfixation or because it's so good. That's what I thought it was, at first.
But this year--hell, the last 3 or 4 months especially, I finally started taking steps to accepting and being myself. I'm rapidly approaching middle age and I'm only just now beginning to feel like I'm allowed to be me. I came out to the people in my household, a few select friends, and a few select family members--most of whom were wholly supportive. I started testosterone injections. I stopped trying to be someone I'm not. I stopped hiding who I am and who I love.
What does this have to do with Good Omens? Nothing. But also... Everything.
So much queer representation is in characters vastly younger than me--and that's good! I want queer kids to feel safe and loved and accepted in ways I never did. They deserve better than we had. And it gives me hope for their futures. I bawled like a baby when I watched The Owl House with my son and he was totally unphazed by the queerness. It's just how people are to him.
But when something like Good Omens comes along and not only grabs every opportunity to show average, everyday old(er) queer representation... It just. I've never felt more seen. More accepted. More hope for all our futures. And season 2 just knocked that out of the fucking park. And the nonbinary, genderfluid, and genderqueer rep? My God.
And it's not subtext, it's not it's own separate plotline where they're fighting for acceptance or dealing with hateful bigotry... It's just... Accepted. It's normal. No one questions it. No one even comments on it.
It's people of any age (even millions of years old) being unapologetically themselves and loving who they love openly and fully (with one notable uncommunicative group of two ineffable idiots, but they'll get there).
I just.
I can't express how grateful I am to see older queer rep at this time in my life. It's been a rough year, and I expect it'll get rougher before it gets better. But I've never been happier in my own skin, and it means the absolute world to see my literary and media heroes like Neil Gaiman, David Tennant, and Michael Sheen (and Terry Pratchett and everyone who worked on Good Omens, honestly) making this beautiful, messy, adorable, excruciating, wonderful, heartbreaking, ethereal, down-to-earth tale.
There aren't enough words in all the languages of the world to express how I'm feeling. "Thank you" just feels... Insufficient.
I just hope they know how much it means to people like me, especially after a lifetime of buried subtext and overt queerbaiting and media ridicule and general lack of acceptance, to experience this story with them.
