I STRONGLY headcanon garrett as Irish who left Ireland for the Americas with his mother and sister after his father died. When he got wind of the revolution, he was only too stoked to take up arms against the Brits. That’s why he’s still so anti-Brit even in modern day 🤷🏼‍♀️

That’s also why he’s hot (💁🏼‍♀️) and why he’s so attracted to badass women (he grew up around them). Garrett was born in the mid-1700s which would have been a particularly poverty-stricken time in Ireland — the Protestant Ascendancy was probably at its peak about now meaning very few Irish people owned their own land, and Protestant settler estate owners had Catholic Irish tenants work the land for export. So the country was producing mass amounts of good food to be eaten elsewhere (which the colonial presence profited from rather than the Irish people who worked the land), while its actual people were hungrily reliant on potatoes and grain. There had also been a famine in the 1740s — not the big famous potato blight one of the 1840s; another one. gotta love colonial decimation! — so it’s absolutely plausible Garrett would’ve been raised in an Ireland where anti-British sentiment was ever-increasing as a result of widespread poverty, which would also allow for him to emigrate. From here on out, Garrett is renamed Gearóid. Thanks everybody, you can all go home now!!!
