@whumptober #22: Toxic
Fandom: Marvel (MCU Spider-Man)
Characters: Peter Parker (Tom Holland)
~
“Help! Help me, somebody…Is anybody out there?” Peter choked out, the weakness of his voice making it futile to begin with. His tongue and throat were swelling up, burning with the sickeningly sweet taste of the gas pouring into the room. Nails digging into the grimy floor, he crawled as far as he was able, chains rattling around his bruised wrists and ankles as they drew taut.
These manacles were intended to keep him anchored to his only companion in the room: an industrial tank attached to the nearest wall, the source of the toxic leak.
Whatever the substance was, it turned his stomach to the point that his next ragged breath became a dry heave, though there was nothing in his stomach to bring up.
He slumped briefly, forehead thudding in an attempt to pound out the storm swirling in his senses. Everything was a blur. He could barely think, much less muster his strength to break free, and even if he did, he might only hasten the process.
If he put up too much of a struggle, the tank would likely be swept along with him, torn off the wall to crash open when it hit the ground, letting the gas permeate the room in even greater excess—not to mention the risk of a stray spark.
Where could he even go? The room was spinning too wildly for him to make out any exits. No escape, no windows, no doors, no lights…or maybe it was just his vision that was dimming.
Somebody…please…
