Fanbinding: A Private Universe by AuroraNova

My latest mini hardcover is the first book in the Private Universe series by @aurora-nova-fic. This is a fantastic series with a really cool concept behind it - highly recommend checking it out if you haven't read it. I picked up this fabric a while ago and have been looking for a project to use it on, and I thought it suited this one well.

I cut the bookcloth from a precut fat quarter (100% cotton) I picked up at Joann's Fabrics and backed with paper. The cover text, DS9 silhouette and spine are all HTV: Cricut Everyday Iron-On (gold and silver) and Cricut Foil Iron-On (violet). The DS9 silhouette on the back is borrowed from the Niners logo (my edit is available here if you're interested in using it for anything). The fonts on the cover, spine, and title page are DS9 Title and DS9 Credits from st-minutiae.com, and most of the rest of the text is 12 point Sabon.

I'm not sure if or when I'll do the rest of the series, though I did just pick up a bunch of other spacey fabrics on sale, so…

The Play's the Thing by @ernmark gives me all the best emotions. Garashir fake dating and mutual pining, my beloveds!! The way they both played themselves so hard, the absolute fools! <3 Every time I even remember this fic exists, I immediately go reread at least one chapter of it so that I can feel warmed to my core!

🧠 What’s an idea you have that you can’t quite call a WIP yet?

Ohhh this is a tricky one, because due to my patented writing workflow process (that is to say, due to the adhd) I need to start on turning an Idea into a WIP as quickly as possible before the motivation and inspiration leaves me, at which point work on a WIP becomes much much slower lol... But a WIP is at least something I can chip away at, unlike a blank document for a still nebulous idea that I've lost the initial spark of inspiration for.

OH, okay, wait, I thought of one: I promised @bashir-my-beloved-my-beloved a Morn/Garak fic, but I have not yet put any words on paper lmao, nor do I know exactly what it will entail. It's probably gonna be a PWP though, or else what's the point?

A while back I finally went down the rabbit hole of Deep Dish Nine, where I discovered several excellent fics, including “Disconnect.” This one is a happier story than that one and I just love how it has our boys (who in in the DDN universe are human) getting to know one another better by entering an environment they haven’t visiting together before. Garak sees Julian on what’s much more of his “home turf” and through that learns a few things, like personal camouflage, and meanwhile Julian learns a few things about Garak. Thanks, @tinsnip, for entertaining us!

Investigate your target, Elim. "Julian, forgive me for asking, but I'd like more information."

Julian looked over, expression mild. "Hmm?"

"What can I expect at this place? What are we going to do?"

Now Julian looked a bit bemused. "Well, I plan to drink a bit too much and dance like an idiot. That is what one generally does when one goes dancing." His look was just a bit questioning.

Gah. I'm pathetic. Oh, well, play to your strengths –

Garak sighed his most pitiable sigh. "It's been a long time since I've done anything like this. I hope you don't find me too sadly out of practice." Poor me, so very lost; don't you want to teach me?

"Oh, I think I'll loosen you up easily enough, Garak." Julian's answering tone was almost flippant, not at all what Garak had expected. What? Are you -

Garak looked curiously at him, but Julian was already looking back out the window, and he'd started humming to himself again, that same repeating motif; in his mind, he was already dancing.

Fanbinding: Had We But World Enough, And Time by Philosopher_King

I have two new mini hardcovers to post this week! The first is my favorite fic in @philosopherking1887's excellent The Spy Who Came In from the Cold series: Had we but world enough, and time.

The cover is a printable cotton canvas backed with green cardstock using an iron-on adhesive. The cover image was cropped from this panorama of a section of Skyline Boulevard I found on Wikimedia Commons, which I brightened up and oversaturated to give it kind of a too-shiny holographic recreation fakeness vibe. The little embellishments added to the text are also from Wikimedia (winged hourglass and Helios' chariot). For larger books I like to put the AO3 tags in the copyright page, but since that doesn't really fit on the mini books, I tried adding a separate AO3 Header page this time. I also combined the beginning and ending notes into a single Author's Note page.

The text is in 11.5 point Sabon (because 12 point fucked up the formatting of the poetry), and the title fonts are DS9 Title and DS9 Credits from ST Minutiae.

A couple of you may remember how I recently vowed I’d be getting back to what I’m supposed to be doing -- rec’ing Garashir fic. So, why not start off with something easy, like something just posted and DELIGHTFUL? I mean, I for one cannot recall any fic with Garak and Julian getting a cat, let along one that is so goddamn in character. I can just picture it, too. (Also, as several commenters mentions, I want art!)

Excerpt

Garak woke up to an insistent yowling outside the bedroom door. Julian had wanted to let the cat sleep with them but he had been firm: it was staying in the living room. The doctor had grudgingly moved the basket after some back-and-forth, but now it seemed the cat was registering a protest.

"Be quiet!" Garak hissed, opening the door to scold it. It really was an odd-looking cat, with large, mismatched blue and brown eyes, large ears, a strangely wrinkled skin, and an almost-reptillian tail. Was this how all the other mammals looked under their fur?

Gul Whiskers ignored him and blithely sauntered inside their bedroom, hopping onto the bed.

"Get down from there, cat!"

The cat slowly positioned itself on Garak's pillow, giving him a slow blink.

"Shoo! Shoo! That's my spot!" The cat gave a yawn and immediately curled up to sleep. Garak briefly contemplated picking it up and throwing it out, but he knew Julian would never forgive him if he did so. With a sigh of defeat, Garak squeezed himself onto the space not occupied by the feline.

"I'll get you yet," he grumbled as he settled down. He was fully prepared to have a hard time falling back asleep, but he found the cat's warm purring soothing. His last conscious thought was that the cat's eyes were like his and Julian's.
