How i see them getting together

Kai is oblivious to Max’s affection, he thinks it's just Max being Max when the blonde starts clinging to him and touching him. He does think its weird that Max has all of a sudden started touching him so freely. He brushes it off Max isn't scared of him anymore or intimidated by him

Max grows increasingly frustrated by how dense Kai is. And works to find more obvious ways (without straight out saying it) that he has a crush on Kai. Showering a confused Kai in praise ("Oh Kai, you’re so handsome with huge muscles" because he opened a jar) [insert Rei and Hiromi rolling their eyes] and affection (practically sitting in Kai’s lap while they're all on the couch watching a movie. 

(watching their little game is a serious form of entertainment for everyone else. they make bets on it)

Max confiding in Rei, that Kai is actually kind of dumb and he doesnt understand why Kai cant see Max's crush. (And rei being like 'why dont you just tell him outright?' "BECAUSE THATS EMBARASSING")

and THEN Kai confiding in Rei about Max’s odd behavior and them laughing/giggling at him.

Okay so. Kai finally FINALLY puts two and two together when one night it’s just the two of them, everyone else has disappeared at the dojo. Sitting together. Alone. Max says somethings that go over Kai’s head. And Max has had enough and grabs Kai’s cheeks in his hands. His thumb smudging Kai’s painted cheek.Telling him to push him away if he’s not okay with it. And kissu kissu.

When they get together, Kai has to get used to how touchy Max is. He’s not used to it at all. He’s not used to gentle touches or the way Max will smoosh their cheeks together and affectionately rub them up and down. It makes Kai go red and a little embarrassed to be so loved on so openly in front of the others. (He does get used to it.)

They show affection in different ways. Kai’s is more muted, while Max’s is obnoxious and obvious. In your face affection. PDA expert. The first time Kai initiates them holding hands it shocks Max.

Kai knows that Max is touchy but Kai is the only one who has his heart. It doesn't bother him (initially it did) when Max clings to Rei and Takao. Doesn’t mind when Max cuddles up with Rei on the couch. (Also because as soon as Kai sits down, Max find his way into Kai’s lap)

Max on the other hand? Is kind of insecure (DONT KNOW WHAT FOR). He hates the way people will look at Kai with hungry eyes. He hates that people don;t take him seriously, and continue to flirt with (an oblivious, uninterested) Kai.

Also the idea of Max’s eye twitching over Kai’s obsession with Takao. Is so… funny.

IMO it stems back to Judy, so now that Max has someone who clearly loves him and gives him his attention, he refuses to let go or let anyone take that from him. 

Kai doesn’t think that Max is possessive/jealous and that its him showing affection. 

Idk it’s funny to me if the ONLY ONE that makes Kai a little nervous (read: jealous) is Rick. Like that’s the only person Kai does not like Max getting cozy with. Something about it makes Kai itch. 

Max is always able to get Kai to do things he would NEVER do otherwise. (I picture them wearing matching animal costumes with fluffy hats with ears. Max getting Kai to eat really cute. 

Max pouting is Kai’s biggest weakness. (He cannot say no to Max, in general, but the pouting? Seals the deal. Kai is so weak to it. Max makes him so soft)

A Date with Death Review

Time Played: 3.7 hours

I just finished playing (and streaming) this game, so I figured now is the best time to compile my thoughts. I only played through one ending for now, but I will play the rest off camera.

Spoiler-free review below.

Who doesn't want to date the Grim Reaper? Death Incarnate? Someone who doesn't judge you for your plushie collection?

Grim is absolutely my type. He has tsundere moments, he's incredibly kind, and he's always honest. I like that he has a balance of grumpy/edgy and sweet/innocent vibes. He's a pro at unintentionally sweeping anyone off their feet.

It's hard to resist teasing him though- his reactions are funny every time. Plus the pouty blush is priceless. It's endearing to watch him try to learn "internet lingo" to communicate with the mortals. You're doing great, babygirl.

The MC's options to tease him constantly really made this game enjoyable to me. They have the grump x sunshine trope going on, and that's one of my favorite dynamics of all time. I'd be happy reading conversations between them anytime.

That said, I'm also thrilled with the extensive customization options for the MC. Pronouns, appearance, typed biography, etc. You can even customize their bedroom! How cool is that? I loved adding little details that showed their personality, like bookshelves and plants. The addition of a pet melts my heart too. I adore my pet, so I'm glad the MC can have a pet they adore.

PROTAGONIST PRAISE

As I said before, I'm glad this game allows customization of the MC. You can pick plenty of options to shape their personality and background, so your playthrough might not be entirely the same as what I described above. I think you can easily self-insert or create your own character with the options available. Have fun making a protagonist you want to see!

OVERALL THOUGHTS

This is one of the best games I've played! I kept looking forward to playing more. I feel obsessed now that I've finished one ending and it's probably only going to get worse from here.

I appreciate this being a free game with DLC options. I hope to see more DLCs added in the future too.

If anyone's looking for a free game filled with heartwarming, bittersweet, and hilarious moments, then you should give it a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed with this lovable Grim Reaper. (Plus he's very pretty to look at.)

OP….OP….IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED….

Their name is Loch Atramento (name Not final) and as you can most likely guess they WERE my self-insert but then evolved into their own character! He’s the fourteenth (?) grumpus on Lizbert’s expedition and Snaxburg’s (self proclaimed) resident therapist!

Originally, he was a therapist in New Grump City who went on vacation for…reasons…and was bound for a cruise ship to Grumpwaii. Unfortunately, he boarded the wrong ship and ended up on Lizbert’s boat. You’d think they would have noticed, but Atramento just walked on board and into a room and nobody noticed until he went out to the deck, saw everyone and Lizbert went something like “who the fuck are you.”

He ended up just. Shrugging and deciding fuck it, so he stayed. They also took one look at the cast and thought. ‘these people are not mentally stable huh. welp!’ and proceeded to turn his hut into a makeshift office.

He’s a very polite speaking grumpus, always referring to people by their last names such as ‘Mrs. Lottablog’ or ‘Mr. Funkbun.’ They even referred to Filbo as ‘Mayor Fiddlepie’ for a fun awhile. Filbo is actually the only one Atramento refers to without honorifics. He’s also decently unphased by a lot.

Once, he had a teacup thrown near his head, missing by an inch and barely flinched, simply asking if the person wanted another cup of tea. Their also ridiculously vague about personal questions, always giving half-answers or vague responses. It drives Beffica in particular crazy.

Despite this, he’s decently good at his job! He does offer advice based on the experiences his patients have gone through and help them with it. He can also sometimes tell things based of their body language. He also serves them hot cocoa made from the chocolate sauce on Wambus’s farm (or tea, if they prefer), and plushie, if they like (thanks to Gramble and Filbo!) He does genuinely want to help, even if some people don’t like opening up. Even if he doesn’t follow his own advice a good portion of times..

That doesn’t mean he doesn’t dislike others, however. Floofty Fizzlebean is particularly a pain for him, as his emotional logic and their rational logic often butt heads.

If you want to find him in game, you won’t need to! He’ll be right smack in the middle of Snaxburg, as he stayed with Filbo, and he’ll be happy to learn you’re bringing people back!

His favorite Bugsnax is Sprinklepede and his least favorite is Sweet Fryder! He’s not one to indulge in bugsnax much (hard holding things with donut arms) but he does enjoy some of them!

I could go on about his relationships and the role he would play…buttt this post is long enough as is. Thank you for asking tho! I’m always willingly to talk about this goober :D

Banamble is my self-insert/grumpsona and journalist character. I made him about a little over a year ago, and he has become one of my main characters overall.

Some general pieces of trivia are that he is autistic (like me!), he was almost pink (turned into an alternate palette for him rather than it being his main one), he majored in biology (once again, like me lol), and he hates ketchup because it's all he ate during his first week on Snaktooth (he grows to like it again later)

So for now, they are going to put a PICC line (peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) into my arm and setting me up to get the antibiotics at home. And then...depending on what timeslot the cardiologist chooses, I will be back in Toronto for the surgery.

Heyo, the name's Neo! This is my sideblog for Rain Code where I'll be posting all about the game, whether it be with character analyses, AU/canon divergence discussion, or memes!

To break the ice a little bit, I'm a non-binary biromantic asexual; I'm currently 21 years old and my birthday is on January 30th. My hobbies include voice acting, singing, creative writing, gaming, and audio editing. I've been a Danganronpa fan since 2022 (came in during the Game Grumps playthrough era) and have been into Rain Code since the first Nintendo Direct trailer released. 2. What is your favorite paragraph from (insert story title you want to know about here, or leave it blank for writer’s choice)? Is there a reason it’s your favorite?

Going to go with my most recent fic for this one. The final paragraph from What the Future Holds haunts me a little ever since I posted the fic:

Her heart throbs when he flips his hand around and interlaces his fingers between hers in a tight grip. It’s all they can do for now as a cloud passes over the moon and the laughter continues outside.

I loved how this turned out. I love the bittersweet image it conjures up in my mind. Toshiro and Momo sit silently against the wall in darkness, lamenting on the future and trying to find hope, all the while the world continues on without them outside - the moon, their only light source through the gap in the doorway, vanishes behind a cloud, and the Shinigami carry on around the fire, laughing and chatting and being normal. It's a sharp contrast that puts their situation into perspective, and somehow makes them even more lonely in their struggle. The future only has one certainty at that point: that Toshiro will die sooner than he should. All they can do in the present is hold hands and hope in silence.

20. Is there anything about any one of your fics that you have been dying to discuss but haven’t had the chance to?

The process for writing On the Shoreline was absolutely wild! I allude to it in the author's note, but seriously, this fic just kept transforming until it reached to what was posted.

My original intent was just to do a purely fluffy fic about Toshiro and Momo going to beach by themselves, doing all the typical beach stuff - shaved ice, walks on the beach, swimming the ocean, collecting seashells, and so on - with Toshiro being a grump but wanting to be supportive for Momo's sake. Momo gets caught up in the excitement of being at the beach and wanting to do all the typical beach things she read about in World of the Living magazines and books, but seeing Toshiro isn't coping 100% well with everything she wants them to do, tries to steer the activities into things that involve cooling him down.

However, midway through writing a scene at sunset, an image of Toshiro just standing in the water, staring out on the horizon, and Momo unsure how to approach him, suddenly came to mind. It interested me, because I don't think the beach would be a place where Toshiro would contemplate something - he'd be too bothered by the heat and everything he doesn't like about the beach - and Momo looking unsure what she should do. I pursued the idea, and at first came up with the idea that he's reflecting on something he'd done on a mission, on a failing of his. He came to beach with Momo because he wanted to escape thinking about it, but it only made it worse; not only is reflecting on this failing, he's also self-critical about trying to not think about it and 'escape' from it. I came to a halt with this idea though when I got stuck on the moment Momo wades through the water to get to him, and I didn't know what to write to get him to say what was on his mind to her; it felt like he would be really guarded about this.

I have this section of scene tucked away still in the deleted scenes of the fic:

With her lips in a tight line and a fist over her heart, Momo walks down to the shoreline. She concentrates on Toshiro shadow, watching it ripple and warp with each wave that bobs and crests to the shoreline. She raises her other hand to shade her eyes against the sunset's glare. Even when she finally wades through the water, he doesn't turn around.

She finds the edge of his reiatsu's influence, the water around her shin's becoming icy cold. With a shiver that rattles her teeth, she lets out an iota of her own reiatsu. It's take several seconds, but when the the sea's temperature is bearable, she continues towards him.

She thinks to speak up, alert him to her presence if he isn't aware, but nothing comes out of her mouth, even as she stops an arms length away from him. He hasn't moved a muscle, as if he'd turned into one of his own ice sculptures. Somehow, though, she knows he's aware she there. Maybe it's in the fact he hasn't turned to her, that whatever is making him like this is something he wants to hide from her.

If that's the case, she should turn around, go back to the inn and wait for him. But she can't move, doesn't want to.

She does what feels natural, and lifts her hand to his shoulder. "Hitsugaya-kun?"

So then I went back through what I'd written prior, and realised all this fluffiness it now didn't fit with the later scenes. I went through and edited them to include hints that Toshiro was being troubled by something, but it didn't work.

I returned back to the scene in the water, and wrote backwards from that scene. I then had a fic set during the ten year timeskip where Momo wanted to take a break from the Soul Society reconstruction and Toshiro came along. However, this didn't get too far as I thought it'd be out of character for them to take a break like this in the World of the Living, specially if it's over multiple days.

I thought more on the fic in the next few days, with a few images coming to mind - Toshiro fanning himself outside an inn while a commotion is going on inside, Momo and Rangiku shopping for clothes in a store and stepping out to a beach view, and Toshiro walking aroudn the inn to get fresh air, ending up in a courtyard with Renji also awake. For those that read the fic, you'll know the first idea made it into the fic, the second one didn't (but may or may not be included in a future sequel fic ;D) and the last got modified with Renji not involved - I think this idea came to me because I think an interaction between Toshiro and Renji would be interesting.

The image of Toshiro outside of the inn again showed him being pensive, reflecting on something. Again I got to thinking what would make him be like this, at a beach of all places! But then I thought about the commotion going on. Was he annoyed by the noise? What was the big deal that caused whoever was in there to get into an argument?

But then came the question that more or less set the story on to it's path: why the heck are there so many characters here? It lead to me questioning what time period would this be? I think this, combined with 1) the fact I wanted to write about the revelations from the No Breathes From Hell oneshot, and 2) I had an idea to write a fic about Toshiro visiting Jushiro's grave, made me realise Toshiro was reflecting on what happened with Jushiro's Konso Reisai and what might happen if he dies before they can figure out how to stop the Captains from ending up in hell.

The rest is more or less history. So in the end, the setting determined where the fic would go. Told you it was wild! XD

So idk if all yall reading this know the Game Grumps on YouTube but they’re doing this thing on patreon where they’ll read submitted fanfictions live and I’m just grappling with the idea of like,,,,, WHAT IF,,,, yknow…..

Back when YouTubers G/T was a big thing I know game grumps weren’t the most written about people but they do have quite a few g/t fics from that era. I’ve read a lot of them because YTGT was my very first online g/t obsession and game grumps have always been my favorites even before that,

Like there’s one where Arin gets super mad at a video game and ends up scaring a Borrower Dan and he has to comfort him and it’s really cute and sweet to someone in the g/t community BUT to someone OUTSIDE the community? Especially the REAL PEOPLE inserted into the story?????

I am DYING to know what their reactions would be but I would NEVER want to actually submit a g/t fic cuz I think I would DIE of second hand embarrassment.

Also I just don’t really like the idea of the general viewing public learning about g/t, one of my favorite things about this community is the lack of harassment (that I’ve seen) and I know that’s mainly because people just don’t freaking know that we exist lmao

I don't want to pit two queens (mark and seán) against each other but it's hard not to a little bit because youtuber alterego sketches are kind of a very... niche genre and frankly i'm not a big enough fan of other people who i've seen do it (like thomas sanders or... contrapoints??? i guess????) to compare off the top of my head.

Seán is just like......... startlingly good at dramatic acting? He is, i think, passible to decent at comedic acting, but not that remarkable among his peers, but weirdly anything he plays straight REALLY sticks with me? Like... a while ago, i saw the opening sketch from some horror series or smth that i didn't even watch clipped to twitter, and it was like. This completely wordless short film of him getting a package and opening it up and finding his own severed head, and i STILL think about it from time to time because it was just made really well. It was EXTREMELY uncomfortable, but not in a way that grossed me out or felt traumatizing (i sometimes have problems with filmed horror because it's too visceral), but because it felt so mundane and convincing while still being skincrawling. Less is more. (I might have some details wrong here, idk.)

Come to think about it, his acting in the tie dye ten minute power hour with the game grumps was also really fucking good for what it was. Like. There was no need to go that hard but he carried it.

I was... maybe more tense than was merited when i watched "say goodbye" (insert zalgo text), because it really just genuinely felt like his content from the time (i was somewhat casual fan and regular viewer for a year or so back in the beginning of the green hair era, so like, 2015?), but the breaks in character were so subtle that it felt.......... extra wrong. Like weirdly in 2022, the nostagia factor made it work better.

I also like how the need for a punchline has been peeled away more and more from the ego content. It's not that there's no humor... the dialogue was funny in the most video, there were bits, but it all served characterization and emotional connection rather than Jokes For Audience To Laugh At. You could watch that video with no idea who Chase is and be 100% drawn in to the core of the character (case in point, that's what happened to corv, they were doing watercolors when i put it on our tv and had never seen any of seán's ego content, and they groked that chase was super divorced before it was said lol). A lot of mark's stuff still feels like *sketches* with occasional emotional connective tissue, which isn't a bad thing by any means, but it's notable how different of a sensibility seán has... and in a weird way, they play in the same twinned truth: the audience is an intrinsic part of this, the eyes of 10, 20, 30 million people are inescapable. Seán plays into the horror aspect of it, which could easily become corny or trite, but doesn't, because he's got the restraint to pull it off.

As for the egos themselves, i don't have any deep cuts of faves (and not... a *great* sense of most of them) but also. Unfortunately Chase and Anti are two of my Known Types: pathetic divorced man who's extremely performative but losing his ability to cope or convince others, and grinning, chaotic supernatural being who has to possess or manipulate other people to enact his will (some of the girlies like vampires or werewolves but this bitch here has a sleeper fixation on poltergeists and trickster figures...) So needless to say, i am INVESTED now that i actually put in the time to get current.
