It took a little over two days, but I finally beat the Parade Master and made it to Hotel Krat.
The sad thing is, that's the first boss that everyone says is easy. And it took me a day in a half to even reach him in the first place.
I hate souls type games, but this one is so fucking pretty it makes it all worth it.

Starting a dev log
Hello everyone, this will be my first post here, for quite some time now, I we been working on a side project for which I would now try to start a dev blog about.
The project is a digital version of a board game my friend has created which I am building in React.
React is probably not the best tool to use to create a digital board game, but I wanted to try to stretch my web dev skills by applying them to something a bit unconventional.
I would humbly say that I believe that along the way I’ve built some interesting solutions that I’ll be sharing here to both keep myself motivated and hopefully to inspire and teach someone reading these posts something new.
For my first example, I’ll share a piece of the code which is fairly central to my entire setup, the whole game works by a series of reducer actions which modify the global GameState, using just “vanilla” React contexts and reducers for global state management with a small custom TypeScript actions setup around it.
The entire game logic was huge to just directly write in to the reducer, so I first started to extract some helper function outside of it, but it was still quite a mess and returning back to a piece of code after a while was not the most pleasant experience.
The following code example was my solution to try to bring some order in to the codebase, which made it a lot more easier for me to manage.
I created something like a facade pattern, so that my reducer at first glance hides the complexity and cleanly describes what is happening at each step while providing me with an option to more closely examine any of the steps and dive in to its implementation details separately.

Lies of P blogging:
Alright, managed to get past the White Lady. It involved a lot of slipping past her attacks and then chipping at her on the rebound so she wasn’t able to parry me and it took maybe a dozen tries? But I got her.
The next section, though, I did not care for at all. The lovelorn guy was fine—his puppet wife was easy to find, so that bit was easy. But the climbing around in the tunnels was unpleasant—dudes flinging shit at you and dropping from the ceiling and what not. I did manage to get the quartz in the lower tunnel, but just barely. It’s not that the miniboss in there was that challenging per se, it’s that the room was extremely small and there were, at one point, three other crawling guys in there with me and him.
So then, okay, out of the tunnel and BAM. There’s a headless dancer puppet coming at you with an uninterruptible nine-hit combo. That’s fun, that’s fine. Okay. Then a bunch of maids and bombers and butlers and the usual. Couple of em got flamethrowers, that’s fine.
But then, after just barely dodging a rolling boulder, I’m just going down the street, minding my own business and I see this:
Like, “oh, that can’t be good.” And folks, it wasn’t.
This guy has never heard of downtime between attacks. I got pretty good at baseballing back his extendo-fist, but that twirly spin that closes distance on you—fuck, man. In the end, I only beat him by running past him (and the half-dozen other enemies in the street) and leading him up to the opera house entrance area. Then I just kind of baited him around one of the bushes, Smough style, chipping at his health and then getting out of the way and using the environment to block his attacks. It took a while, but it worked.
Also did not enjoy the opera house itself because you know what I don’t like? 1) spiders and 2) insta-kill mechanics. Guess what there’s both of in here? But alright, I poked around, did my due diligence.
And now I’m fighting the King of Puppets. Figured this one was gonna be a 2-phaser, both because it seems narratively significant and because the first phase isn’t that bad with a specter to break aggro. Stick to his ass, punish, get clear, repeat. But then Romeo comes out and he’s both very fast and hits like a truck. I think I can see how to get past him, the dance of it, but I haven’t been able to pull it off. Yet. I’ll put the headphones on later and we’ll see how it goes.
Not much to report story-wise, in this section. Although the puppet reenactment of… my creation? was a bit unnerving. Also who is this Romeo kid? What’s his deal? Remains to be seen.

Well that Nintendo Direct was definitely a thing that happened. Felt kinda fillery, like Nintendo is trying to bide time for their next console (which will be soonish most likely).
Nothing I was personally super excited about that I didn't already know about but I'm sure Mario fans are happy right now.

Really trying to close the primary loop of my game now , I have found one of my favourite things is adding “juice” to my games. It’s very satisfying adding all the little touches that make things feel good.

I have decided to use this account to post my thoughts on games I have played recently. It seems like a fun way to put my thoughts out even if I don't have a following on here. That being said, if you do this type of thing on tumblr let me know so I can follow you. I like horror, mystery, and puzzle games (not limited to that) and would like to find more people!

large zionist blocklist below
i've compiled a list of all the blogs positively interacting with the @/israel-palestine-bingo blog
there's more info about how the names were complied under the read more, but just to get an idea of how vile the blog is, i just want to quickly mention that the first prize offered in their pinned post, "eight hours of memi mamtera," is the song used in the viral israeli tiktok trend of kidnapping, humiliating, and torturing palestinians in the west bank.
and the "grand prize," which needs no explanation, is "all of palestine! for free!"
some quick info: all the names here have either approvingly replied to, reblogged from, or liked one or more of @/israel-palestine-bingo's posts. for likes, i've only gathered names that appear under their original posts; mostly ones that have not been reblogged, and some with 2-3 reblogs that have not left the immediate sphere of zionists. i've also made sure that these are blogs who have either liked more than one posts from them, or who frequently reblogs from other zionists.
you can also quickly look through the blog yourself (it doesn't have that many posts), or check out any of the names on the list with a quick 'israel' or 'palestine' in the search bar or their blogs.
there are more screenshots at the end of the posts, including ones showing who made the blog (ani-lo-daredevil / katenotbishop), and the bingo board itself (ashenpumpkin).
blocking tip: fastest way to mass block users (on desktop) is to go to settings -> the blog your blocking them from -> scroll all the way down to 'blocked tumblrs,' and then copy-paste the name your blocking
