Welcome to Galar!
Hello everyone! This is the official blog of the Galar Region’s Pokémon League!
Here, we will send out announcements about all kinds of events, public announcements, dangerous weather alerts, and more.
The Galar Region’s Pokémon League is home to 18 Gyms. 8 Major League, 10 Minor League. Minor League challenges are available to all, but are not included in the main League. Major League challenges require an endorsement from an important person in Galar itself, or just a city/town in Galar. If you wish to sign up for the Major League, please visit Motostoke with an official and signed endorsement.
And with that information out of the way… please follow us for further updates and information on the Galar Region and its League system!

Hobo in the Wood Sweeps Galar League 18.6.22
Leon finds Ingo just kinda chilling and living in the Galar woods with no idea how he got there. He was trying to go home from Hisui and somehow ended up in Galar instead.
Leon decides he likes him, and gets himself adopted they become friends, and then after a while Leon accidentally convinces Ingo that he needs rescuing from the position and stresses of champion.
Leon doesn't even know Ingo can battle.
Ingo climbs out of the woods, brute forces his way into documented existence, gains entry to the League, and precedes to just absolutely sweep through them much to their shock and alarm —without using agile and strong styles, he's playing by their rules after all—, as he aims for the top.
A continent away Emmet is verrrry confused. By the time he manages to get his nonsense together and get on a plane his brother is the Champion of Galar.
Rose was not prepared.

i saw a tiktok giving the gen 9 gym badges cool & fun names like the old games did so here's my headcanons names for the galarian gym badges + explaining the thought process behind them under the cut!
MILO — the herd badge
NESSA — the dew badge
KABU — the ember badge
BEA — the bout badge
ALLISTER — the fright badge
OPAL — the mab badge ⤵︎
BEDE — the puck badge
GORDIE — the monolith badge
MELONY — the frostbite badge
PIERS — the rebel badge ⤵︎
MARNIE — the rally badge
RAIHAN — the wyvern badge
《 BONUS 》 PEONY — the rivet badge
here's some in-depth explanation on each badge's name!
THE HERD BADGE : comes from turffield's gym challenge.
THE DEW BADGE : from nessa's water type specialization & how some makeup looks are called "dewy", connecting to her modeling work.
THE EMBER BADGE : from kabu's fire type specialization & his journey as a gym leader. embers may be a sign of a dying fire, but they still can burn you & rekindle into a blazing fire, (much like how kabu fell into the minor league before rekindling his passion & strength to regain his place in the major league.)
THE BOUT BADGE — pulled from bea's in-game dialogue, connects to her fighting type specialization. also, alliteration is always fun.
THE FRIGHT BADGE — from allister's ghost type specialization & how he's shown to enjoy spooking people (giving them a fright) he's friendly with in masters.
THE MAB BADGE — pulled from william shakespeare's romeo & juliet, mab is described as a fairy queen. meant to connect opal's fairy type specialization & her history in theater.
THE PUCK BADGE — pulled from william shakespeare's a midsummer night's dream, puck is a fairy much like mab. meant to signify bede's fairy type specialization & his connection to opal as her student + successor as gym leader.
THE MONOLITH BADGE — pulled from gordie's in-game dialogue, connects to his specialization in rock types.
THE FROSTBITE BADGE — from melony's ice type specialization & severe training style.
THE REBEL BADGE — from piers' dark type specialization & his "odd one out" nature as a gym leader
THE RALLY BADGE — from marnie's ability to rally people's support around her & stir up a crowd. also starts with an r, showing her connection her to piers.
THE WYVERN BADGE — from raihan's dragon type specialization, wyverns are often used as emblems in english coats of arms. we'll just ignore that wyverns aren't considered dragons in english folklore, though.
THE RIVET BADGE — from peony's steel type specialization, this was the name of his badge before he left the league.

Cactusverse Galar League Challenge Headcanons
Just an infodump Galar League Challenge headcanons from cactusverse The Galar League challenge last from 90 days and typically starts in late summer and ends in early fall. The official start of the gym challenge isn’t really the opening ceremony it actually begins 5 days prior. This is to allow for travel for both challengers and leaders to the opening ceremony area (usually Motostoke, but it has been Hammerlocke in the past) as well as pre-challenge interviews. Often the chairperson, current champion, some gym leaders and challengers will have interviews before the opening ceremony. It’s a good idea for challengers who want sponsorships (as those are separate from the endorsement letters) to arrive early so they can settle in and snag an interview. Most gym challengers arrive 3 days prior to opening to check in, get their uniform (and get it adjusted if needed) and to make sure all of their accommodations (such as noise reducing headphones, exemptions from certain gym tests) are in place. All gym challengers need to be registered by the day of the opening ceremony or risk disqualification. Leon on his gym challenge just barely made it due to his habit of getting lost. The day of the opening ceremony is a huge moment in Galar and many people often pay good money to get a seat in the stands that day to see all of the gym challengers, leaders and champion in one place. The champion often gives a speech once the gym challengers walk out onto the field. As soon as the opening ceremony concludes the gym challenge portion officially begins. However most challengers and leaders stay the night at the hotel (all paid for by the league) before heading out. The first week, challengers are actually not allowed to challenge the first gym even if they get to the city early. This is to allow for trainers who don’t have at least 3 Pokemon to catch some in the wild area or along the routes. This also gives time for the gym leaders to go over challenger list and make sure accommodations are ready (for example challengers to Milo’s gym who can’t wrangle Wooloo will be given an alternate less physically demanding test). The gym challenge portion lasts 8 week, one week per gym. Challengers challenge the gym on a first come, first serve basis. They are scheduled at certain times for media coverage and having time for the gym leader and gym trainers to rest per challenge. If a challenger fails either the test or loses the battle against the leader they can not re-challenge in the same day, they’ll have to come back. Also those who have to retry are given lower priority than those on their first try. Also each challenger can only fail 3 times period before being disqualified. This can be either failing three times to a single gym test/battle (this happens a lot to people challenging Kabu) or failing at 2 or more gyms (a lot of trainers strike out by failing against Kabu, Gordie and then Raihan). At 6 weeks, gym challengers who don’t have at least 4 badges are often asked to quit their challenge as it may be unlikely they’ll catch up in time as the gym challenge portion has a hard cutoff at the 8 week mark. This is to allow for the gym leaders to have time to prepare for the upcoming champion’s cup. This is especially crucial in years where there is no active champion as all major and minor league leaders will be invited to compete for the champion title. After the 8 weeks for the gym challenge is up there’s actually a 2 week gap between the gym challenge and the tournaments. This is to allow for travel to Wyndon and for training for the remaining challengers and leaders. This is often the time you’ll see challengers headed to the isle of armor or crown tundra or doing intense training in the wild area. Others may decide to give interviews during this time as a last bid for sponsors. The last week of the league challenge is the tournament. Depending on the number of challengers remaining there is either 1-2 days given for the challenger’s cup. On average 8 challengers typically make it to Wyndon although some years it’s been as low as 0 and some as high as 14. There’s two days given for the champion’s cup where the remaining challenger and the gym leaders face off. The match between the reigning champion and winner of the champion’s cup happens on the last day of the challenge followed by the closing ceremony. If it’s a year that there is no active champion then there is just one massive tournament that is held between major leaders, minor leaders, and any challengers to crown the champion and this usually takes 3 days to complete.

One thing starting to do some battling of my own has made me realise is that Piers is like. Somehow even cooler than I thought??
Dude really looks his opponent in the eye and says 'I am going to battle you my way, and I am going to tell you my strategy while I do it.'
And then he has one of the highest win/loss ratios of the League and like. Still finds time to be a killer singer?? And an awesome big brother?? Damn where's the time come from-

What if Lance was there during the disaster in Galar?
He was actually just paying Leon a visit like a good friend. When crazy stuff happened like Pokemon suddenly Gigantimaxed, Eterneaus was released, he immediately decided to look for Leon.
Upon arriving, not only that he found Leon injured (thankfully not severe), but also he had to witnessed Ash and Goh commanding Zachian and Zamezameta to take down Eterneaus.
After Eterneaus was finally sealed and all of the Gigantimaxed Pokemon were back to normal, Lance started ranting about Ash giving him a heart attack again.
Goh and Leon wondered how Lance knew Ash. The next day, while Ash was not around, Lance started showing his PowerPoint presentation about Ash, in front of Leon, Goh, Prof. Magnolia, and Sonia.
You bet your ass Lance has every Galar representation in a meeting room for this presentation including Goh while Ash and Pikachu sleeps in

Old take, but I’m thinking about the differences between Pokémon SWSH and Pokémon SV and the way the world is presented, and I find it both hilarious and satisfying that in SWSH, the Pokémon League was a major sporting event with televised battles, giant stadiums packed with fans, uniforms, mascots (Ball Guy!), sponsorships, the whole thing, and then how could they top that in the next gen?
They couldn’t, so they went in completely the opposite direction: the Pokémon League is just a side thing. All the gym leaders have day jobs (and the task you have to complete before battling them often involves helping them with or pulling them away from those day jobs). The battle are public and a few fans show up but that’s kind of it.
I mean hell, the big post-game tournament that’s sponsored by the Pokémon League and personally attended/emcee’d by the Head Champion—in the largest city in the region, no less!—draws, like, maybe a couple dozen people to watch it. It’s a fun thing but it’s not, like, MAJOR LEAGUE SPORTS.
I just find the contrast to be very funny. Neither one is “better” in a vacuum; they serve the purpose they’re meant to serve in each game. But I still love that the decision was that they couldn’t make it bigger and flashier… so they didn’t try.

this is gonna sound so backhanded but after 3 letdowns in a row from pokemon (followed by a game which isnt terrible but i dislike because of how much it fucked up the plot of sm), then a game that i genuinely really love and want more in the style of and largely because of how it deviates from the main series, im genuinely so shocked that i love scarlet and violet as much as i do. like when i was going through that tutorial i was just cautious and waiting for the other show to drop and be bored at best, but like, graphic glitches aside, it never came. it stayed really fun and charming
#like is it acceptable that it came out so glitchy when its a $60 console release? absolutely not#i think the game has a lot of issues and i dont blame people for not being happy with it#but i think what makes this better than swsh to me is like. swsh sorta feels like it was made out of obligation sometimes#like. tpci and gamefreak treated galar like a kid would treat an art project in a medium they werent interested in#but they were being harassed for that good grade so they powered through and hated the result#and sorta just tried to hide it when they got home from school that day#not that there isn’t anything to like about galar or it has no substance whatsoever but when i played it i couldnt shake the feeling#that gamefreak was embarassed of it. like they did not want to linger too much on this game#i think the anime switching format was a good idea in the end cause just putting ash in another gauntlet after he won the alola league would#would have been weird but its veryyyy telling to me that they changed the format so drastically#that we didnt even spend all our time in galar. their home base wasnt even in galar#and in the game they emphasize that kantos got better pokemon and everyone loves them better and theres not a whole lot to do#and there was always just this feeling of insecurity and dissatisfaction with it#and for all its faults- i cant say the same thing about scvi. this game oozes with charm and care#the writing feels like someone genuinely cared about these characters and wanted the best for them and the story#the gameplay feels more involved and confident. they got more experimental with the format#idk it feels like people LIKED working on this game to a degree and wanted the player to have fun#echoed voice

Who else is hype for this Galar league run! I already met some super cool people and also like. There was some mixup at the hotel and this random stranger gave me her room? So like. That was a neat reminder in the kindness of humanity!
.. so yeah, in other words I'm bricking it but hey! Whole point here is to get out of my comfort zone!
