As someone who love collectible blind box figures and Monster High, i have always been very captivated by G2's Monster High Minis. I love a lot of the concepts they came up with, and honestly, some of them were wasted being just minis, and should have gotten dolls. Then again- I would not trust G2 to make these waves look good.

I would, however, want to see these ideas in the style of G1 dolls! I wanted to take a moment to share some of the minis i found cute, and how I think they could be made into an adorable doll.

I only have plans for this one post at the moment but I MAY do a part two if this one goes well!

Mermaid Catty Noir

If Great Scarrier Reef was a little better- I think they could have made the idea of mermaid dolls work. This Catty mini is super cute, and i love the shade of yellow they chose for her tail. I think that she could make a cute doll, if they made her swim top with similar ruffles to her core doll's shirt, but in silver, and perhaps having the hair fall in loose curls- something a Catty doll has never really had. This Catty would be in the style of a G1 Doll.

Candy Ghouls Lagoona Blue

Sweet Screams was a very small but beloved line, and I think that some of the themes for the Candy Ghouls minis could be adapted wonderfully to suit this theme- and my favorite idea would have to be this bubblegum Lagoona Blue. The bright blue hair with yellow streaks, paired with a ruffly yellow and pink polka-dot dress would be such a fun doll concept, and i'd love to see a Neptuna quite literally made as a bubble. I also think she could sport an adorable pair of heels with circular pumps. This Lagoona would be in the style of a G1 Doll.

Glow In The Dark Venus McFlytrap

This Venus mini is absolutely adorable, and the skeleton pattern reminds me a lot of early 2000s scene, which I think could be a fun vibe for Venus. They could keep her skeleton tee, but add some fishnet gloves, and a big green-and-pink mesh skirt, held up by a chunky belt, and some big platform shoes. Of course, she'd still glow in the dark too. This Venus would be in the style of a G1 Doll.

Fruit Frankie Stein

It's a crime that not many doll lines don't do fruit-themed lines, and I that Monster High could do an awesome job at this concept. This Frankie would be so cute with a Kiwi-themed headband, and brown and green streaks in her hair. I would give her a kiwi-themed jacket and green shirt, and change her skirt to be brown, as well as giving her some tights and jewelry. This Frankie would be in the style of a G1 Doll.

All Of The Space Monsters

I adore space themed lines, and this was a big missed opportunity! I would have loved to see all of the characters included in holographic, spacesuit inspired fashion. I think that large boots, fun skirts, clear plastic accessories and cute visors could have made this wave. And honestly- I think G3 could do an even better job at it than G1! All of the characters in the wave are in G3 and it would be such a cool line to see them make! This line could be in the style of G1 or G3 Dolls.

Monster High Headcanons

I haven't finished the diaries yet so some of the G1 headcanons might not fit with them.

G1 Twyla (And maybe G2 and G3? I haven't decided yet) is the Sandman's niece. He's really cool with her, but the last time he saw her dad a fight nearly broke out.

All three versions of Frankie are all trans in some way. Of course, G3 is canonically nonbinary, but G1 is trans and G2 is still figuring things out. What G2 knows for sure though is that she uses she/they pronouns.

All three versions of Clawdeen are gay. G1 Clawdeen specifically is an arospec lesbian.

The only reason Moanica wasn't expelled after Welcome to Monster High is because everyone thought it best to keep her where they could keep an eye on her.

G1 Frankie still has the electrical marks she got towards the end of Freaky Fusion. Likewise, G2 Frankie has their own after the events of Electrified, though they're mostly around her neck. Only time will tell if G3 Frankie ends up with their own.

G1 Twyla has to make a conscious effort not to daydream. If she isn't being careful, her mind will literally wander into someone else's daydream.

Alivia is the president of Monster High's new fearbook committee. Currently, the only other members are Fangelica, Cleo, and Spectra.

G3 Cleo loves human monster movies. They're hardly ever accurate to real life, but that's what makes them fun!

On the other hand, G1 Draculaura can't stand human vampire movies. They almost make the monster made ones look historically accurate.

G2 Spectra is Ari's cousin. Like Ari, she was initially masquerading as a human nearby a news office, then later joined Monster High to start a school newspaper.

G2 Twyla and Frankie are dating! They were all blushy and awkward around each other for weeks until Alivia bluntly told Twyla about how often Frankie said they liked her. Frankie was initially mortified but was thankful that Alivia at least had the sense not to say it in front of the whole school.

After finding out about Halloween, the G2 ghouls absolutely went out into town for the holiday.

Speaking of G2, monsters are kind of an open secret to Normie Town after Electrified. But since the monsters haven't said anything about the zombie attack and they clearly aren't all like Moanica, the humans all pretend they don't know. Well, most of them.

After Werewolf Weekend, Clawdeen ended up giving all of her friends a crash course on humans in case they ever needed to go into human territory.

G3 Twyla and Howleen are dormmates. They're not as close as their G1 counterparts, but they'll get there eventually.

Vampires can use their echolocation in their... I hesitate to say human forms. Anyway, Draculaura once had to use hers during a blackout. It was hell on Clawdeen's ears.

This one is more of a retcon than a headcanon, but G2 Clawdeen only has three younger siblings; Clawd, Howleen, and Pawla. They didn't live in a cave either because what the fuck were the writers thinking with that?

Draculaura was Moanica's gay awakening (And maybe vice versa? It was either Moanica or Ari/Tash), though she would live before she ever admitted it. Like seriously? Of all the ghouls it had to be, why her?

I wouldn't go so far as to say that G1 Draculaura is a neat freak or a germaphobe, but she goes to a lot of trouble keeping her space clean (Y'know, aside from the decade's worth of clothes crammed inside her locker). After nearly dying from the plague before being turned, she really isn't keen on getting sick.

Alivia has a habit of charging her cameras with her head bolts, despite Frankie telling her not to waste her energy on them and just plug them into outlets.

After her parents found out about Alivia, Frankie wasn't allowed in a lab alone for a while. They're happy to have a new daughter, don't get them wrong, but they'd have liked it if Frankie hadn't gone off and made her on their own.

Ghoulia and Elle are Robecca's unofficial guides to the modern world. She's a quick study and currently knows about as much as Frankie or Hoodude, though iCoffins are still a mystery to her.

There's a knockoff brand of iCoffins going around known as iCaskets. They're awful, even worse than normie cell phones. They're expensive as hell and very few monsters have kept theirs intact for longer than three days.

I don't have any feelings towards Ari Hauntington as a doll as she's more so a nothing burger to me in how she replaced Spectra rather than did anything drastic with being a new character in G2, as opposed to Silvi or Moanica. 

But after working on Moanica and Silvi, I wanted to revisit Ari Hauntington and give her a new look, as there is potential in a popstar ghost character, and I wanted her to look as different to Spectra as possible.

Of course, after wiping Ari, I was surprised at what a nice sculpt was lurking underneath and how much it looked like 2015-era Ariana Grande. So I leaned heavily into that inspiration and gave her glam makeup and more defined features. I also wanted to bring back the spooky ghost eye element that G1 Spectra had so her sclera is a desaturated form of her hair colour.

I also leaned towards pinky-toned purples rather than cool tones to also make her as distinct from Spectra as possible.

Ari Hauntington might not be the most popular, but I'm glad to make her more G1 for my collection...

Let’s talk about Lenore…

Okay. First things first.

she has a great design.

However, let me counter that with, Why?

I genuinely have zero clue why they came out with her. Who is she the daughter of. What’s her backstory? The poem doesn’t have rhythm at all. She just???? Became a ghost cause she visited a garden? That’s not like accurate to monster lore.

also?? WHY? AGAIN? I don’t think people who loved G1 were currently like ‘yeah you know what? Instead of getting more lore for our favorite characters, or seeing someone who ISNT draculaura be made into a doll we can treasure, let’s have an entirely new random ass character with zero backstory. None of the original g1 nostalgic format. Expensive a shit. And absolutely ZERO context! Whooo!’

LIKE COME ON I FEEL LIKE ITS REQUIRED YOU AT LEAST HAVE HER BE THE DAUGHTER OF ??? SOMONE??? They really took away everything that made G1, G1. Slapped a poorly formed poem (btw. I could write a better poem in my sleep. Very curious about what writer looked at that and thought it had a good rythym and rhyme scheme) and then made it expensive as hell.

I’m not saying it doesn’t look pretty. It does. But they came out with this new character, one that we have ZERO personal connection too, took away everything that might make us love her, and then? Expect us to buy it 💀

One of the most salvagable things from G2 was Frankie's sister; Alivia Stein.

Change my mind.

I mean I agree. I think Alivia's being into photography and potentially being more artistically oriented rather than science-y like the rest of her family is really interesting. Also Frankie making themself a sibling just cuz all their closest friends seemed to have at least one is SO funny and in character. I could see any generation Frankie do this. I mean, they made hoodude afterall lol

Not quite a counter but a followup argument to yours though is that a Lot of those gen 2 exclusive characters had a lot of potential!! Personally I really like Raythe and hope he gets brought back for g3 cuz ge'd fit in SO well. But Moanica's human hating "monsters should stay hidden and i hate your dumb school" outlook on unlife could be brought back too. Its an outlook more characters would share with her in g3. But compared to g1/2 it made her fairly unique. (plus her army of undead boyfriends is real funny to me)

Ari having a secret ghostly identity despite being a "human" popstar is such a cool piece of lore in g2. How many other monsters chose to cope via pretending to be human rather than isolating themselves for eternity?? How does that affect the wider culture arouns them after the reveal??

Also draculaura and clawdeen being stepsisters couldve been SO cool like!! It was only hinted at but its canon(in g2) to me

Do you think it's weird that MH G1 "music" theme doll lines neither Operetta and Holt

Think about it...

2013: Music Festival: Venus, Clawdeen, Draculaura, Clawd and Abbey

Before I continue... I know you gonna say:

What about 2015: Boo York Line...

True ( Operetta's outfit is more suitable for tourists and she doesn't have much role in the movie aside post credit scene)

But what about Holt?

After the Halloween disaster, he doesn't get to travel as well. He could help Catty with her music or something.

I know its absurd but I have a theory: The only reason Operetta was included in Boo York's line is that her dad is one of the most famous musicals in history meanwhile Jackson/Holt's grandfather only made a decent musical: Jekyll and Hyde 1990

2016: Fierce Rockers: Venus, Jinafire , Clawdeen, Catty and  Toralei

At this point in time MH got 2nd reboot and only brought Operetta back in webisodes and TV specials.

2016: Music Class:  Cleo and Ari Hauntington

This year in Monster high G3: There gonna realize Monster Fest line which is their version Music Fest

So far its confirm: Frankie , Cleo, Clawdeen, Lagoona and Draculaura

I dunno know if Toralei Meowlody & Purrsephone or Catty Noire will join later

Still no signs of G3 Operetta or Jackson/Holt

Who knows maybe both will appear later this year or next. Only time will tell.

TLDR: It's weird for me that neither Operetta and Holt appear in doll lines concerts or music-related activities.

There's technical in fandom terminology for all of this but I don't know it, sorry for being a cringefailwaifu or what have you.

I am trying to keep a family alive for 10 generations of short lifespans. This is a known style of play, but IDK the word.

Anyway, I'm on Gen 7, it's going so good, I just wanted to note everything down before I forget.

Gen 1 (founding family):

I decided to populate the world with rainbow pastel sims, and began play with a werewolf version of @arionwind, who ultimately bred out with a pink pastel sim. Conveniently, because werewolves can achieve immortal status, this Ari sim is still alive.

Meanwhile, the pink sim turned out to be a witch, a genetic trait allowing the character to use cheat codes "in universe" as magic.

This meant all children would be either genetic witches or genetic werewolves.

Gen 2 (banananananana):

The first child of G1 would ultimately be our throughline. Because of my exceedingly, violently modified game settings, this one came out a trans man autonomously on age up, so that's fun. Although born with human skin, I modified him to have pastel yellow, beginning a trend throughout the subsequent generations of picking a theme color for all of the kids skin, hair and eyes in a generation. All other genetics were left unmodified.

His name was Syrene and he was the first one to be named Serrano as well. A real trendsetter, he determined a lot of things about future generations' play styles.

He also had 7 children, including 2 sets of twins. My man was Never Not Pregnant.

He was so happy about being a parent that he funded the family money tree, which rapidly became the primary source of income in the game. A money tree is a garden object you can buy with reward points for making your sim happy. At higher levels, it pays 22,500 dollars a day.

He personally funded 3 of them.

Cheerful as fuck.

Gen 3 (grape):

Ultimately I elected to follow the youngest of the younger set of twins, Rori. Her twin, Augustin, was the last natural born werewolf in the family line, as he never had children himself. However, he remained Rori's close friend throughout her life.

Rori sired many children in her life as a world travelling magical duelist, and ultimately raised a handful of them while paying double child support to the rest.

Gen 4 (bluet):

The 5th of Rori's children, a retiring homebody who ran off to a rural village when she got pregnant. She spent her life making Unusually Strong Potions due to sims of this generation and later having the Ancient Bloodline trait. She also raised llamas and kitted a lot.

A very chill woman overall, which makes the Dramatics of her child... impressive.

Gen 5 (brown on brown IDK she was born very pretty but not very fruity):

Maricela Serrano, you beautiful bitch.

Maricela died at her adult birthday of Having Too Much Fun, a known cause of death in the game.

She had recently, as in the day before, finished marrying her wife, Sidney Lalonde, of the Newcrest Lalondes (when I first populated the game in gen 1, I put in a homestuck house on an unused map and forgot about it entirely until this point).

Because both were born with the double fertility trait (heavily modded game!) both of them were able to sire and carry children over the course of their engagement, and ultimately they had 6 children together. And oh man, what children they were, raised by the ghost of a dead mom, and an Actual Lunatic Immortal Witch because oops somewhere along the way Sydney drank an immortality potion.

Gen 6 (peachy teens!):

The eldest, Romeo. The twins Viola and Sebastien. The twins Lady and Othello. And the youngest, Ariel.

Of them, Ariel quickly seemed the loveliest and the most worth pursuing genetically, however, Ariel proved the first of a dramatic calamity about to befall the family line.

Although both Maricela and Sidney were witches, Ariel proved to have no magical ability. So I set them up to be a comedy focused NPC and moved on to Othello.

Othello was an over acheiver (which is a type of teenager you can play, with specific goals) who quickly graduated high school and entered college as a teen, a thing I did not know you could do in this game until he did it.

This is of critical importance.

He went to college and on the FIRST. NIGHT. AFTER. CLASS.

He died of studying too much in the library. His brain exploded into computer symbols.

In addition to not knowing teens could go to college I also did not know they could die.

I relented to my next backup, Lady. Lady is a mean, evil, romantic sim and almost immediately dies of being too angry, another known cause of death in the game.

I am rapidly running out of peachy teens!!!!!!

I fall back to Romeo, who is at this point an adult with the goal of becoming world famous, so I make him an actor and off we go.

As part of the bit, I have him sire as many kids as possible. Every time an NPC asks to date him, he knocks them up and breaks up with them immediately. He did this himself the first 2 times, but I make it an enforced rule from then on.

He gets world famous, becomes old, and decides to meet his many children.

Gen 7 (cherry red and spring green):

All of Romeo's children were born without magic, so I picked the prettiest one and had her run away to live at the beach. She became a mermaid because I think they are pretty.

She lived an extremely uninteresting life of being a B list youtuber and raising her only child, a daughter she had via IVF with her best friend from high school.

Super chill, very normal.

Gen 8 (strawberry pink and dark green):

No idea why her child came out human and evil, but that happened. Anyway, while bringing Romeo's gravestone to the family graveyard, Sidney (the immortal Lalonde) was just like, "hey Siobhan, stand still, you're a witch now."

So I guess my vague plans of making her be a vampire are over, since you can only be one kind of magic thing at a time.

But she can still be a supervillain so that's fun!

Some more EAH and MH stuff I made!

Pic 1: Apple Bite, my take on the leaked prototype dress that @luc-elementix posted a while ago. This would have been Apple dressed as/transformed into a vampire and would have happened in The Lost Movie or been movie exclusive dolls.

Pic 2: the Scarily Ever After doll line with Draculaura as Snow Bite, Frankie Stein as Threadarella, and Clawdeen as Little Dead Riding Wolf. (I know Frankie’s doesn’t really match the art, but I tried by best.)

Pic 3: Scarily Ever After Cleo and Abbey. They only appeared as background characters in Draculaura and Frankie’s stories, but I wanted to include them anyway. Cleo is the Evil Princess (/Queen) in Snow Bite and Abbey is the Fairy Ghoulmother (Scary Godmother in my head) from Threadarella. (In other stories, I think Cleo could be Sleeping Beauty and Abbey could be the Snow Queen.)

Pic 4: Destiny swapped Apple Queen and Raven White. Honestly, I just swapped their color palettes 😅 Nothing nuance here except maybe for Apple’s purple highlights. I kind of like this AU/theory. I know some people don’t and Apple could have just inherited her hair color from her dad (he’s stated as having blonde hair in the books), but it’s just such a cool theory to me.

Pic 7: Howleen Wolf fashion evolution (G1 and G3). I really like her second look. I know some people don’t but Howleen’s whole thing is that she’s trying to find herself. She feels like she has something to prove since her older siblings have all done great things. Fashion is great way to do that. She’s expressing herself through her fashion. (I couldn’t get the hair poof that she has in her first and newest look so I went with the braided/cornrow look (I don’t know what hairstyle this is. My knowledge of African hairstyles is abysmal.)

Pic 8: Casta Fierce, Catty Noir, and Ari Hauntington. Honestly, these were my favorite to make. I love that MH made some pop stars. I still listen to Witching Hour and Catty’s songs are so good. I also really like her and Pharaoh. They are so cute and would definitely be THE monster pop star power couple (in my opinion). Ari also has a really interesting storyline. She’s a pop star in both the human and monster worlds.

My problem with 2nd gen of Monster High movies

As most of us know,because of Monster Highs declined sales(reason for which may be parents' criticism of the "creepiness" of dolls) Mattel relaunched its toy line,with intention to shift towards younger audience by making the dolls more colorful and soft,which in turn upset the fans of the 1st generation of Monster High, and thus this brand was canceled.So after getting that out of the way,let’s take a look at two feature movies-Welcome to Monster High and Electrified-that were supposed to introduce the audience to a reimagined world of monsters.Were they any good?Did these films have some interesting lore or meaningful message?The answer is no.

1) Change of characters

While most ghouls from original timeline were mostly unchanged,2nd gen introduced us to a few new students:Moanica D’Kay,Ari Hauntigton and Silvi Timberwolf.As names suggest they are zombie,ghost and a werewolf.The strange thing is-we already had those?In g1 the leading zombie was Ghoulia Yelps,who,unlike Moanica,wasn’t the main villain but a geek girl instead.While we know that Ghoulia had an older sister with the same name,the reboot doesn’t acknowledge that,which would’ve made more sense if they did by adding a one-liner about D’Kay having a sister or by incorporating this information in the plot.Then there’s Ari Hauntington,whose style was definitely inspired by Spectra Vondergeist,which again raises a lot of questions-why did Mattel exclude Ghoulia and Spectra from the reboot?Why have they added characters similar in style but different backstory and personality traits without any explanation whatsoever?And let’s not forget about Silvi Timberwolf,who first appeared in Electrified and had a supporting role in the 2nd movie.The problem with her is that there is already a werewolf among the main characters, and to understand why Sylvi was made the same species as Clawdeen,despite the fact that the film did not focus on their relationship,is confusing.Also,the way Timberwolf interacted with the leading trio only once,never accompanying them or helping like most secondary characters usually do felt as if the film crew didn’t know what to do with her.

2)The portrayal of friendship 

As a franchise aimed at children,Monster High constantly raised the issue of how to build strong and healthy relationships, overcome certain misunderstandings and find common ground.The second remake,however,fails to do that.While we have to take into account that g2 has only two movies and web series compared to its predecessors tons of content,it’s still no excuse for poorly written interactions between characters.Instead of showing the audience different personalities and the way the mains different outlook can crash with each other,the ghouls instantly become friends at the first meeting.Not only does it feels rushed,but it also makes monster students all the more boring; the films basically gotten rid of their flaws,leaving fully positive,24/7 cheerful cardboard versions of original ghouls.

3)The message 

Accepting yourself and others as they are has always been an important theme of Monster High,showing it on the examples of werewolves and vampires, monsters and humans.Through certain obstacles the heroes are usually able to prove that it is possible to live in peace and harmony.In the movies, thought,all quarrels are resolved thanks to an inspirational speech by one of the characters, which instantly fixes everything.And it would’ve been alright if this kind of technique was used at the end of each cartoon-it was present in most episodes of original Monster High after all- but the problem is that this happens every 30 minutes(!!).Not only that,but the way humans accepted monster kind so quickly despite it being an important theme in g1 which stretched through many series and one full length movie felt almost unfair.

In conclusion:like the doll line,the two cartoons made a lot of questionable decisions regarding its characters. Add to this a poorly written plot and the deprivation of the things that made the first Monsters High so special, such as a detailed examination of superstition and eerie aesthetics, and it's easy to see why they were so easily forgotten.

do you think if/when g3 spectra gets a doll they’ll do the original g1 spectra body where it’s a white body clear hands and legs or do it like haunted spectra/ari g2 where the whole body is just semi transparent
