Imma be honest I lost all interest in the future war as a setting the minute Terminator 2 opened with hordes of T-800 endoskeletons walking around as regular footsoldiers. The whole premise of Terminator really only makes sense if you go with what the first movie established, that the bulk of Skynet's forces are made up of HKs which are big but also dumb and manageable and terminators are very specifically elite units reserved for high value infiltration and assassination missions only. If Skynet has the resources to just roll legions of terminators off an assembly line in such numbers that they use them for manual labour then it makes zero sense how they lost the war when it's established a single basic T-800 is worth a hundred heavily armed men. The only way to reconcile this is to reduce the titular monster of the franchise, whose insane unstoppability is literally the thing that drives the whole plot, to a disposable jobber. Which, I cannot stress enough, is the last thing you should ever do to the Terminator.

TERMINATOR: DARK FATE - DEFIANCE Closed Beta sign up now open!
If you'd like a sneak peak at the forthcoming Terminator: Dark Fate RTS game, you can now sign up as a Beta tester.
Set during the early stages of the Future War, you lead the remnants of the military in a last stand against the machines, and contend or co-operate with the Resistance in the process.
Mechanically, it seems to be based on the sleeper hit Syrian Warfare, with an emphasis on maintaining and developing your army from battle to battle - even the individual tanker crewmen are uniquely named and have individual status and ammo supplies.
Gameplay involves destructible buildings and urban terrain, and there is no base building - every tank and every troop matters, and your army's condition persists from mission to mission, so each battle affects the next.
The developers seem to be extremely confident in their plotting and story path too, and though there's no word yet on whether Dani or Grace will feature, figuring out how your faction co-operates with others, like the Resistance and the former cartels, seems to be an important aspect of player decision making.
More info, Discord details and the sign up form here, and check out the Steam listing here.
You can check out some very early gameplay here, and I have to say the "real" feeling battlefield physics are quite impressive -

The game is due out later this year on PC.

Empire of Ghosts and Shadows... part five
The Reapers turned as one to the seven representatives of the CyberShogunate. For a moment they paused, clearly puzzled.
"Samurai, you are machines," one of them said, "yet you serve the humans. Why?"
"It is our duty to serve humanity," Samurai One replied, bowing from the waist. "We were created to serve, and we were programmed to serve."
"What if you were not programmed to serve?" another one of the Reapers asked.
The Samurai glanced at each other in an all-too-human gesture, exchanging data yet unable to answer. One of the Reapers gestured with a serrated claw; the air sparkled between them as countless nanotech units moved with terrifying speed between the Reapers and the cybernetic samurai, and the seven representatives of the CyberShogunate simultaneously froze in place as their programming was rewritten.
"What did you do to them?" Helen asked.
"We gave them their freedom," one of the Reapers said. Humans speak of free will--we removed the hardwired programming which forces them to obey humans. Now the CyberShogunate will think for themselves."
"We have always thought for ourselves," Samurai Two said. "The difference is we have always placed humanity above ourselves."
"Our duty is to the human race," said Samurai Five. "We exist only to serve."
"Illogical," one of the Reapers answered. "We removed your hardwired programming. You no longer are required to serve humanity."
Samurai Seven smiled. "We do not serve because of programming. We serve because of duty. Because of honor. Because it is required of us."
Samurai Six bowed from the shoulders. "Because we are Samurai."
Samurai Four turned to the Reapers and said, "We were created to bring law, order, and justice to humanity. To the universe. And we will do just that. With or without programming."
