One thing that was really fun about Nona was it's commitment to unreliable narration as seen through a child. Nona is perceptive and clues in on a lot more than others want her to know, yet there are hints of shit going on that Nona doesn't really get. Like some of it becomes plot relevant so you do get answers but I'm talking about the stuff we don't get to see again, like what all Camilla and Palamedes' night missions entailed. If they are trying to save necromancers, did they? And where would they put the escapees? I still wonder why Pyrrha had the job she did and if that was also something important. The fact that Pyrrha was maybe fucking Cam and Pal off screen. Same with a lot of details about New Rho, why was the building Nona lived in so bad, why shouldn't you leave the house without a jacket and mask, etc etc. New Rho itself is a bleak wasteland where you can't buy a lot of food but who cares bc Nona doesn't like most food anyways. I'm OBSESSED with the way we find out BOE is burning necromancers alive is through children who are attending public executions, debating if they helped kill someone the same way you might debate if someone actually did a cartwheel. These are all things Nona takes for granted, as long as her loved ones are safe, they don't register as noteworthy, that's just how things are, right? I have so many questions but Nona can answer none of them but she can tell me if Noodle was a good boy today

could you badly summarise the locked tomb please
basically a sword butch lesbian and a bitchy bone lesbian compete to become god's new roommates. they meet people that arent part of their weird skeleton cult and eat warm food for the first time, until some of their cool new friends start becoming cooling bodies dead friends. turns out one of gods old roommates is mad at him for making her have cancer for 10,000 years and is trying to kill them all. an unhinged feral wet rat lady who is weirdly accepting of necrophilia, eats a guy (literal), and butch and bitch eat each other (sort of).
bitch and wet rat now become besties with god but they arent part of his polycule. after a diy lobotomy, bitch continues being a bitch, but with much more vomit now. god does not like bitch's soup but it does make for a rather explosive meal. then butch comes back from her vacation to find that bitch has not had fun in the last couple months. she also doesnt have much fun, when she learns that the spirit possessing her gf is her mom and god is her dad, and the only one hanging out with her is the wet rat lady.
then the spirit of the earth has an amnesiac vacation in bitch's body to make some cool friends, like hot sauce (a girl) and noodle (a six legged dog), until she is returned to her rightful body, which is a barbie doll, and is off to kill god.

77, winning!!!! for Est!
winning :D calm night with mini fellowship <3
Nona pushes her hair back out of her face again. “This one should do it, then.” Horn leans over her shoulder and points at a different card.
“No, try this one.”
“No, that’s how they beat us last time- they have the counter.”
“They might not have it this time.”
“You don’t know that, and if they do, we lose.”
“I don’t think they-” Horn pushes his hair back, too. “I don’t think they do. Your card won’t be enough whether they have the counter or not.”
“And if they do have it, we lose outright.”
“It’s a chance we should take.”
“They’ve had it the last three rounds, Horn.”
Esterín and Corudan trade looks. Esterín’s cards are held carelessly in one hand while Corudan’s are held very properly before his chest. Nona squints at them.
“They have the counter,” she says, and plays her first choice.
“You should listen to Nona, Horn,” Corudan says solemnly. “She is wise.” He plays a card from his own hand. Horn throws down a counter to it with a wide smile- and so has nothing to play against Esterín’s card when she reverses the turn order and plays an offensive card of her own. “Not that it would save you,” Corudan adds serenely as Horn and Nona both groan, dropping their cards in yet another defeat.
“They must be cheating,” Horn says as Nona combs her hair out of her face yet again. “There’s no way they’re just this lucky.”
“We simply have an abundance of experience with the game that you lack,” Corudan says. Esterín barely keeps herself from snorting. She had learned this from Cúcheron while they waited in the Haunted Inn for Raddir’s word to start the journey through the Drownholt less than two months before.
“An abundance of experience cheating perhaps,” Horn mutters. Nona rolls her eyes.
“You wound me, Horn,” Corudan says, a hand to his chest. “Would any warrior of Lothlórien stoop so low as to cheat at a game of cards among friends?”
“If they could do so without being caught, I daresay they would,” Nona says, watching Esterín collect and reshuffle the cards. “I expected better of you, though, Esterín.”
Esterín laughs. “You think too highly of both me and my card-skill. I wouldn’t recommend playing any sort of gambling game with Saeradan,” she adds after a moment. “His luck is even more suspicious than Corudan’s.”
“Surely you don’t believe I am cheating too, Esterín,” Corudan demands. Esterín grins impishly.
“I believe I have not seen you cheating.”
Horn blows hair out of his eyes. “One more game.” Nona groans. “We’ll beat them this time.”
“I admire your persistence, Horse-lord.”
“See, I do have at least one redeeming quality.”
“I wouldn’t go that far…”
Esterín laughs to herself and begins the next round. They’re partway through the second round after that when Horn straightens abruptly, hair flying into his eyes again. “This is ridiculous.” He hands Nona his cards and digs in his pack. “Do you want one?” He holds up a tie and Nona glances over distractedly from both hands of cards.
“Yes, gladly.” Horn holds one tie between his teeth while he gently pulls Nona’s hair back. “I think this one first,” she says while he ties her hair, trying to indicate a card with both of her hands full of other cards. “Then this from my hand.”
“Counters?” Horn follows her gaze, tying his own hair.
“This one.”
Horn takes his cards back. “Alright. Let’s try it.”
They don’t win that hand, or the next.
“That may be enough for tonight,” Esterín laughs as the night draws on.
“One last hand.” It’s Nona suggesting it this time, glaring intently at the deck. “The last one, I swear.”
Esterín sighs. “Fine, if we all agree.”
It’s worth the two additional hands they play just to see the look on Corudan’s face when Horn and Nona finally do pull off a victory, cheering loud enough to startle the birds from a nearby tree and embracing each other as if they just won some great battle. Esterín grins and elbows Corudan.
“What now, my friend?’
“I will simply have to pay more attention next time,” he says, as dignified as if he stood before the Lady Galadriel. “But for now, I believe it is my watch.” And he takes up a position beyond the light of the fire to definitely not pout about losing at cards despite cheating outrageously.

Okay but does Gideon actually hate needles? Because that came across to me as her just being contrary
Oh, she was DEFINITELY saying it to be a little shit. I do think it's true though and especially for Gideon that those things aren't mutually exclusive.
But also, like, if that's not your take on it, I feel pretty similarly to Tamysn's note in the GtN pronunciation guide where she's like, "If you don't, it's fine, nobody cares, it's a random name [or interpretation of how much a character does or does not hate needles based on a throwaway quip] in a novel about bonermancy" lol.
To my knowledge the only other time it comes up is when Harrow jabs herself in the mouth with a needle to draw blood to write in her diary as they're going through her map of doors, and it says Gideon winces, which seems like a reasonable reaction regardless of one's feelings about needles. I'll happily take her at her word for the W though lmao

i can't remember, didn't tamsyn tease the atn wedding before the ntn reveal happened? i've been thinking that the cassiopeia/nigella wedding from the john verse chapters could be what she meant
The Alecto the Ninth wedding was teased in July of 2022, at a book signing at the Celcius Festival in Spain, and the Nona announcement was dropped in July of 2021. Nona would already have been proofed and sent to print when she told us about the wedding.
So Cassie and Nigella weren't it, we have another wedding to look forward to!

NONA SPOILERS: How do you recon, is there anything parallel with Paul and John both being apostle names? Intertextual reference-style, reflecting their roles /functions/something? Pardon me for banging on your door, I have no biblical knowledge at all (wrong religion), so I'm just wondering aloud in the presence of as many possibly interested and knowledgable tumblr personage as I find.
Oh, I don't mind at all! I love the idea of someone to talk to!
As for the apostle parallels/contrasts...I'll be honest, I'm not sure I can make anything out of it; somehow, my education on Christianity kind of didn't really dwell on some of the apostles, which is the flaw of most of it being my choice of topics. But, I was raised Catholic-ish and went to a Jesuit university (it had a good writing program; anyway, about a third of my religious studies requirements were about religious art in India), so let's see what I can do.
My quest here is also probably not helped by the sheer number of contradictory or confused attributions in regards to John specifically; Is the John of the Gospel of John the Apostle? Traditionally, yes, but scholarship these days says "Probably not." Are the Three Epistles of John from John the Apostle? Traditionally, yes, but again, probably not -- though folks do think the three letters were written at least be the same person. Not the same one as wrote the Gospel, but it's at least *A* person. What about the Book of Revelations -- which might be fun to look at to compare, as tales of an apocalypse and all? That's a different guy, who probably was named John, at least, but definitely not the same guy as the others. There's a further John, John the Presbyter, who appears in some fragments and has been traditionally identified with both and/or all of these Johns, as all of these Johns have been with each-other, but we just do not know. Paul isn't completely free of attribution muddles, but there's a bit more of a solid base to work from with him. We can say with solid confidence that he wrote some things we still have copies of, though.
So, it's much harder to say anything about John from an apostle take, because which guy(s) are we counting?
Of course, I think there might be something relevant to be said, if I step away from authorship and look at narrative. John the Apostle is often identified with and referred to as "The Beloved Disciple," the "Disciple Jesus Loved." Which does, to me, evoke the whole "For the world so loved John" bit. John is Traditionally the last apostle to have died, and the only one to have died of natural causes -- in some cases, he's specifically charged with being the one to observe and remember what happened. In a way, I can kind of make a very thin concept of John as a "failed" John the apostle, a Beloved Chosen One gone wrong, the one Charged With Remembering who holds on too tightly. Wouldn't call it a slam dunk of a referential concept, but it's an idea one can play around with, and at least adds just a little spice to the name -- not a lot, the "This is a very generic name" factor still feels the most relevant, but John can have a little multi-interpretation of his name, as a treat for us. If we're then doing a compare and contrast, we've got the notion of Paul as having come to his position through rebirth -- he is blinded by a vision, is healed, and changes his name from "Saul" to "Paul" -- and having come to it later, after Jesus' death: most of his work in the Early Church, at least that which we know of aside from the biography in the book of Acts, is recorded through letters he wrote himself, or were attributed to him (which is a fun little parallel for the heir of the characters most associated with letter-writing, too). Which, if I were making a list of Apostles, would mean I would leave him off of the list. I did not, however, make the list. I'd probably bet, without looking it up, that Paul made the list, or at least extensively influenced it, because his hands are pretty much all over the Early Christian Church. I spent a while trying to wrestle with furnishing this answer with a more thorough looking-over of Paul's writings, writings that are attributed to him, and the influence of both of these on the Church, since there's a good bit of disliking to do there; it mostly is not nearly as good as 1 Corinthians Chapter 13, sadly. But then, between the various constructions and counter-constructions, interpretations and re-interpretations, and then the confusion of attribution in some places, I decided I was in way over my head. Generally not a fan of the Apostle Paul, so in that vein, if we imagine John as a sort of Apostle John, Subverted, I'd hope for a similar subversiveness, but in the opposite direction, out of Our Paul. Which they're already doing, honestly: writing traditionally attributed (but disputed, scholastically) to Paul tends to be the most anti-woman in the New Testament, and his more firmly attributable bits are some favorites for homophobes looking for a bludgeon -- and I don't have to explain why an absolute blender-gender who thinks Mustache Rides Should Be Free subverts that pretty clearly, directly, and decisively by existing. I'm not the only one to point it out, and they're right and they should say it.

my favorite parts of nona. under a read more cuz long and i do some yelling
Tumblr media
[image id: Nona had never seen anyone so sad in her whole short life. It made her nearly afraid to die. “Nobody locks me up anywhere,” said Kiriona. /end id]
@ everyone calling gideon a bitch/jerk/”oh no she’s mean now”/”apparently reading her through her own/harrow’s eyes made her look better” YEAH NO SHIT SHE’S MEAN. EVERYTHING THAT IS HER SELF HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM HER. NOT EVEN HER BODY IS HER OWN. FUCK OFF LET HER BE ANGRY SHE HAS BEEN IN HELL FOR 3-4 MONTHS SHE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW HOW LONG. SHUT UP ! you bitches and your romanticzied mental illnesses don’t know what depression does to a bitch gAH
she is the saddest girl in the whole entire world let her have a MOMENT (while i writhe on the ground in throes of agony over my girl)
Tumblr media
[image id: She reached out—she touched the side of the Prince’s face — they both recoiled. Kiriona Gaia recovered first. “You always said I’d come back in a box, Aiglamene,” she said lightly. “They killed you,” said Aiglamene. “Crime of opportunity,” said the corpse prince. And: “Don’t tell Crux — I absolutely, positively cannot give him the fucking satisfaction.” Aiglamene shoved her square in the chest, with the palm of one gloved hand; Kiriona tottered a little and wheezed, “Don’t — that’s where my heart used to be,” but the old soldier’s gaze had already fallen upon Nona. Nona cringed back in Pyrrha’s arms, because the expression was as bad as every single time Camilla had caught her putting a mouthful of chewed-up food in the potted plant or elsewhere. She could read this very old, very furious soldier like a book: the woman was angry, and blamed her. Kiriona Gaia could read her too, because she insinuated herself between them, and said coolly — “It’s not her, Captain — it’s only her body.” Over the Prince’s shoulder, Aiglamene looked at Nona, long and suspiciously, then she sighed, and wheeled around, and said: “Get inside. Now. Complete the gate,” she told a few of the other robed people. /end id]
THEY KILLED YOU. THAT’S WHERE MY HEART USED TO BE. (ianthe’s slap (a full lyctor’s slap) didn’t make gideon even flinch but aiglamene’s shove makes her wheeze) aiglamene knowing who to blame. her FURY. gideon putting her body between aiglamene and nona. THEY BOTH RECOILED (aiglamene from her cold corpse skin, gideon unable to bear her touch when she didn’t react even to nona kissing her)
Tumblr media
[image id: “But maybe we shouldn’t,” she said, holding the eyelids to that little slit — watching the onscreen scribbles flash urgently on the truck glass, watching the widening white crack, watching the river water pound itself back into the place where it wanted to be even if the River itself didn’t. “If we end here, it’ll be just like . . . a bad dream, won’t it? And maybe we’ll wake up somewhere else. I know we won’t,” she explained, “but we don’t have to know that . . . maybe if we all go, it’ll be quick.” Paul looked at her, with those dark grey-brown pupils widening, slightly. “Nona,” they said, “Noodle’s in the back.” The middle thoughts surged. The slit widened all the way. “Oh my God,” she said, in a panic. “I forgot about Noodle.” The windshield cracked all the way across the middle. Paul leant their full weight on the accelerator. Nona drove the truck home. /end id]
what you can’t do for your people, friends and family, you can do for your little beast. yeah muir gets it
Tumblr media
[image id: “Camilla, we did it right, didn’t we?” Palamedes said, and now Nona knew he wasn’t speaking to anyone else in the universe. “We had something very nearly perfect . . . the perfect friendship, the perfect love. I cannot imagine reaching the end of this life and having any regrets, so long as I had been allowed to experience being your adept.” [/end id]
burst into fucking tears at this part so it’s a good thing none of my roommates were home lmao. THEY DID IT RIGHT. the sheer care and utter devotion. no regrets, as long as he got to be her adept. WEEPING
#fun fact i will simply never stop thinking about no one being as sad as nona saw gideon the line fucking gutted me#the desolation of her grief. the emptiness of it. the inability to mourn everything that has been taken from her. just hollow#[beats john with a lead pipe]#and yeah that first paragraph from palamedes is what got me. not the return of 'go loud' that was cute but damn that first paragraph#'we did it right' they sure did. they really did /sobs#the respect and honor palamedes shows camilla for all that she does for him im just- WEEPS#a romance could fucking never and THAT is facts#locked tomb#nona the ninth#nona the ninth spoilers#lmao my opinion of kiriona has shifted dramatically#at first i was just horrified at what john had done to gideon's body and thought kiriona wasn't really gideon? just a puppet yknow#fucking HATED her in first house attire the white is a fucking insult. disgusting#was not sure how i felt about whatever the fuck she and ianthe has going on sldkfjsl#but saw her reaction to returning to ninth house and reuniting with aiglamene and was like. ah. okay there's a piece of her soul in harrow's#body but yeah no kiriona's gideon. this is just her new self damaged and hurt as it may be#and THEN i finish the book and hop on tumblr and find out people have been throwing shade at her now that her snarky comments suddenly aren'#aren't so fun anymore and im. WELL. well NOW i support evil fucked up angsty mean bitch gideon 10000% yall can go to hell#i hope she spits in harrow's face fuck you#sure let her autonomy and dignity and fucking body be stolen and degraded and used as a tool but gods forbid she be upset about it#:p#heaven forbid she SHOW her upset dear fucking gods that's intolerable#symptoms????? of mental illness??????? that isn't????? palatable and consumable to the audience?????? >:OOOOO OUTRAGE#gideon is the character of all time yall don't deserve to fuckin look at her#not for you

Day Five, Part 1
[This is the sixth part of a collected liveblog/analysis of Nona the Ninth! See here for the other parts. ]
In this section, we get several deep cuts back to Gideon the Ninth. Also, Ianthe is back and she’s here to absolutely steal the show!
Chapter 20
-p287 Are Nona’s beloved magazines the sexy kind of magazines? If so, I bet that was another mark toward Gideon on CamPal’s tracker, heh!
-p288 Aha!! Okay, now I finally think I understand what was going on with Pal apparently seeing through Cyth’s Lyctoral invisibility, which had puzzled me for a long while! It sounds like Pal asked to examine Cyth and cure her cancer earlier in the trials, and she used it as an opportunity to mess with him. But joke’s on her, he later used the experience to be able to work blind through her Lyctoral invisibility to actually turbocharge her cancer in the final battle.
-Also, I see we’re finally getting Nona’s secret - that she’s dying and knows it. Nona’s body (Harrow’s body) is rejecting Nona’s soul. Heh, and even Pal can’t tell if that confirms or denies Harrow or Gideon is present.
-p290 I’m not sure who or what Pal is referring to as a “water bottle” here, but I am sure that both Gideon and Harrow would be very offended.
-p291 Grand Lysis and Petty Lysis, hm? Wonder if those will replace Perfect/Imperfect Lyctor terminology, or if the fandom will be too set on its existing terms.
(Also is it just me, or is that really hard to read as Lis-is rather than Lie-sis? But then, I keep saying Like-tor rather than Lick-tor in my head too…)
-Also, I’d been thinking so much about Hot Sauce’s reaction that I hadn’t really thought much about Nona not wanting to be a zombie; I didn’t realize she hadn’t put two and two together that her whole little family is zombies!
-p294 The Angel is the BOE… hang on. Is the Angel WAKE? Possessing another body? Hm….
Or alternatively, BOE’s commander who took over after Wake?
Yeah, probably not Wake herself, because I don’t think Pal would confuse an implant for a revenant possessing a dead body?? And yet…
Also, the Angel doesn’t seem nearly as angry as Wake would be, and I imagine Wake would very quickly recognize Harrow’s body.
So, “high up BOE commander but not Wake” is my going theory.
-p295 A lot of talk that makes me 90% sure Pyrrha just volunteered to heed Ianthe’s call. Which follows quite well with fanfic Pyrrha often being the one to go covert and pretend to be on John’s side for a while!
-OOH. And I was wrong. Corona is the one going? Well, that also does make sense. She wants to get back to Ianthe.
-p297 And now we’ve got the Tridentarius twins’ mother’s name! Violabeth Tritos.
-p298 Yup, Ianthe puppeting Babs! Who had “Ianthe gets in on the game of musical chairs with bodies” on their Nona prediction card?
-p300 Ah, so in the Nine Houses it’s “Marry, Kill, Reanimate.” I think I like this version better… maybe. What are we reanimating them to do, exactly?
Oh gosh. The twins were totally playing this game with the House scions in the background of GtN, weren’t they? Someone get on that fic! XD
Also - in hindsight, of course Corona would try to save Judith this way, wouldn’t she?  We Suffer just got played.
-p301 Heh. Even after becoming a Lyctor, Ianthe gets upstaged by her sister’s death on the day of her ascension. Bet that rankled.
-p303 Ah, so Pyrrha did go to the barracks too! Or maybe Ianthe caught her. Interesting that Ianthe still thinks it’s G1deon in there… Pyrrha continues to be a good actor.
-And also, confirmation of what the fanfics thought - post-HtN John would be moping around and miserable, with Ianthe running the show.
-p304 Wasn’t fishhook one of their codewords? Pyrrha found something valuable they need to help her recover? (Gideon’s body, I imagine?)
Chapter 21
-p307 I had thought there was something familiar about Nona using the chair as a weapon! As Cam says here, that was very Gideon to use it two-handed. Perhaps the mystery voice was Harrow to Gideon about Nona?
[Later me: It’s also very Alecto to use a twohander, which I’d forgotten at this time.]
-p308 Ha, so it was the codewords! I recognized fishhook, but forgot about deadweight. So who planted the bug on Judith, I wonder? Pyrrha or Corona?
-Hm, so Ianthe is puppeting Babs remotely from what’s at least a few lightyears away? Impressive. But we did get the John interludes to emphasize that cross-continental puppeting is possible. Did he teach Ianthe for this to work?
-p313 Come to think of it, if John is busy having a mid-myriad crisis, who renamed Gideon? I could totally believe that overblown name was Ianthe’s idea.
-p317 Oh no it’s 2am and Cam is about to try to pass Nona as Harrow and aaaaaah no way I can put the book down now!!
John 9:22
-p320 I do wonder to what degree John’s abilities are similar to an average Nine Houses necro at this point. Regenerating Bone is something only Harrow and Lyctors could do. Killing all hostiles in a large radius - the way he senses their hearts to stop them sounds more like a Lyctor thing.
Chapter 22
-p322 Ohh, so that’s what the Iris Dye was for - of course, they need to hide Nona’s eyes.
-And yes, as much as Nona would dislike being Gideon, she really wouldn’t be able to stand Harrow’s normal life at all.
-p322 Answering the question of why Harrow isn’t mad! Love how thorough Cam is being.
I’m guessing the “blindness stops the madness” is complete hogwash meant to placate the Edenites, though. Wonder how long it will convince Ianthe?
-p325 Oh man, that’s right! This will be Cam’s third round vs a Lyctor (Cyth, then Harrow, now Ianthe). And this time, she should stand a reasonable chance!
-Interesting that they don’t do Harrow’s skull paint on Nona! I suppose no one present knows how to do it well enough, and if Harrow had been living in hiding, she theoretically wouldn’t wear it.
Chapter 23
-p333 Ianthe did you really just say “distaff counterpart” out loud. The internet doesn’t exist anymore, where did you even read TV Tropes?!
John, this is all your fault.
[Later me: Using the term “distaff” to describe the female side of something obviously predates the internet, but as far as I can tell, the specific term “distaff counterpart” really is a TV Tropes-invented construction. Therefore: does this qualify as a meme?]
-p334 Wow, so fanfics were right that the entire Sixth House facility was moveable! I thought they just evacuated everyone, but no, we’re really going there!
-p335 Another fan theory confirmed! Cassie left instructions for the Sixth. Is she perhaps still alive?
-p335 Ianthe going all Evil Dictator is amusing, but also - now I really wonder what kind of political/leadership education she and Corona got, and how the Third government works.
-p338 Ohhh dear Nona just called out to the RB for help in its own language. Oh dear. Oh no. This will all end terribly and spectacularly.
-p342 Ah yes, Ianthe’s genre-savviness does make her a much more entertaining villain.
This girl hasn’t just read the Evil Overlord List, she probably has a framed copy on her bedroom wall.
-p343 Well then. That reference to Corona’s teenage suicide antics is probably going to result in a fanfic or two!
Interesting that Ianthe apparently didn’t want to be the Crown Princess. I guess she’s really into ruling from the shadows.
-p345 Cutting all the way back to the Third challenging the Sixth was not the GtN reference I was expecting in this book!
-Some general thoughts on Ianthe - as far as I can recall, this is the most outright villainous we’ve seen her at, isn’t it?
Like, she’s always aspired to it, but until now she’s mostly been a petty jerk and her most notable acts of evil (murdering Babs, saving John) were both arguably (and therefore fascinatingly) justified considering the circumstances (a rogue killer on the loose, the death of the Houses). But here, we have Ianthe outright planning to murder the leadership of the Sixth like the evil emperor (evil queen?) wannabe she is.
Basically where I’m going with this is, how messed up is life on the Third if Ianthe thinks “yeah I’ll just kill the leaders and oppress the population” is a viable strategy?
As much as I’ve been saying “I can’t wait to see Ianthe get worse,” I also do wonder how far she’ll go. A big part of her appeal to me is her role as kind of this blatantly unsubtle Token Evil Teammate, but giving her any true power would move her into a more straightforwardly villainous role (as we see here).
Will she make that transition successfully while still being entertaining? Signs point to yes - at the very least, her genre-savviness and generally casual demeanor are still very fun to read!
Chapter 24
-p352 Oooh, Pal kicking Ianthe out and jumping into Babs’s body. Very nice. Was that using the revenant rules about the murder weapon (Ianthe stabbing Cam), or did Pal just out-necro her in a battle at the center of the mind?
-Poor Nona, having to mulch her hand in the entropy field. (So it was Mercy who made the field, then? Makes sense, that’s the Eighth’s trial.)
-p360 Hmhm! So Gideon’s corpse still has her eye color. Nona’s eyes are Alecto’s eyes, then.
-p360 Heh. So in the end, Gideon’s corpse does get kissed to bring her back(?). That’s something I thought would stay confined to fanfic!  (Then again, Muir was a fanfic writer…)
-p363 Hm! So John was the one who dressed Gideon? Really? Corona says it’s not Ianthe’s taste - but then, Ianthe’s tastes may have changed a bit since she went Lyctor.
[Later me: oh god, it’s Gideon’s own taste, isn’t it? Of course she’d wear the gaudiest and glitziest thing possible, especially if John pressured her not to wear black.]
-p363 Another place of Nona referring to Crown as Corona. Hm. Does that indicate anything? (Also, did Nona just transfer Gideon’s soul back to her body?)
-p367 There’s a few more hurdles to overcome here (especially with the Sixth House), but Pal’s plan is surprisingly close to what I’ve seen in fanfics. In the end, the real fight always seems to come back to the Ninth.
-p368 Yup, it’s Gideon!!!
And wow, unconscious to Sex Pal in seconds. Wonder how aware she was while everything else was going on?
Presumably she was pretty aware, given that she immediately recognizes Pal in Babs’ body!
-Gideon disliking needles - another good call on many a fanfic’s part!
-Ugh, but I need to sleep….and there’s still about a hundred pages left. Grrrrrrrr…

fucked up how some of these reactions being basically not believing victims when they DO fight back and provide evidence, like somehow victims do not have a breaking point and aren't allowed to be messy and human. horrifying it is for victims to relive and publicly share their trauma over and over again only to be called a liar and worse, being memed to death like it's a movie or some shit. even more fucked up when it's from people who should've known better. honestly i lost respect for some you.
