I Wish You Died Instead Ch. 1
[Scaramouche x Fem!Reader]
A/N: I started writing this before all of his lore came out/Before the last Sumeru Archon quest, so there will be a handful of inconsistency later on. My advice to you? Just go with it!
Summary:
You hate working for the Fatui. You hate working for Scaramouche. And you just… hate Scaramouche.
He's two-faced, incorrigible, insensitive, and has an atrocious personality. Unlike yourself, he enjoys hurting others simply because he can. You know he only recruited you because he believes you have the potential to be a killer. You didn't join the Fatui because you wanted to, you joined because you needed the resources. You don't want to be turned into a weapon, but Scaramouch didn't care.
You really… really hate him.

Chapter 1: Oh, Lore?
You smoothly fix your mask over your face when you cool off enough from the strong breeze. It was pretty stuffy in that Fatui mask despite the weather being colder than Tsaritsa's taint 24/7, you never liked wearing it. But you had no choice but to follow the regulation of keeping your uniform in check.
"[L/n]."
You look up from the report you were reading, your fellow agent was towering over you since you were sitting on a rock.
"What is it, Kazuki?" You mutter, closing the folder to hide whatever was inside.
It's not like you didn't trust Kazuki: he was the only one you could trust considering he was your best friend. But you two weren't in the same department, and you rather not expose him to the danger you had to deal with. He was special to you like that.
The pale man offers a ghost of a smile, "May I sit with you?"
You snort unattractively, "Sure, be my guest."
The rock wasn't even big enough for your ass, but maybe that was Kazuki's plan from the start. Scooting over so you're practically just sitting at the edge, the black haired agent carefully sits next to you on your conquered rock island.
You let out an undignified squeal as Kazuki's body manages to shove you off the rock. He quickly grabs your arm and pulls it against his body so you don't fall. You had to drop the report on the snow so you could steady yourself against the rock. Both you and Kazuki were laughing like morons, luckily that the other agents were inside where it protected them from the Snezhnaya weather.
"Moron," You chuckle, already feeling warm from where you and the other were flushed together, "What do you want? I don't have Mora."
Kazuki was a tall man, taller compared to the majority of people anyway. And since you're probably the one of the few people who's seen him without his Fatui mask, you can confidently say that Kazuki was, unfortunately, very attractive. His pale skin was close to perfect, minus the horizontal scar on his left cheek. His black hair was pushed back, at the front and center of his hair was pink.
His eyes were an extremely light shade of brown, almost giving it a gold hue. Though because of this, it made his tadpole pupils easily visible. This is where the pupils take an oval-like shape, though in Kazuki's case, they almost look sharp at the end.
His deep voice brings you out of your thoughts, "I don't want anything. I just wanted to check up on you since you're out here alone. I know you hate Snezhnaya weather so..."
"Aw, am I that special to you?" You tease, letting your guard down just a bit.
"Absolutely not. Go perish."
You groan, "Speaking of doing shit that seems shitty, how's it like working for Lord Tartaglia?"
The male agent sharply shakes his head. Clear message: change the subject.
"Well, if it's any consolation, Lord Scaramouche doesn't remember I exist," You add lamely, "I really think my recruitment was a mistake on his part."
Kazuki shakes his head, "I don't understand why you joined the Fatui to begin with. This is no place for someone like you."
"And what the fuck is that supposed to mean?"
"That you're too soft."
"Oh." That's pretty much true so you can't even say anything! "I didn't wanna get chosen by Lord Scaramouche, but apparently he thought I was most suited for his field since he commands the Skirmishers."
Kazuki raises a brow, "And how do you know that?"
"Well... Do you remember three months ago, the night of our personal recruitment's to the Harbingers?"

You wouldn't consider yourself talented in anything or skilled in areas that are remarkable. But you do pride yourself in being able to sweet talk your way into and out of situations, and your invisibility. Not that you're dIfFeReNt AnD qUiRkY and no one ever notices you, but you're an absolute fucking master at sneaking into places you do not belong in.
It's not often that Harbingers will recruit for direct subordinates, so when you (and Kazuki) were given the chance, you put on your best show in hopes of attracting the attention of a low ranking Harbinger.
That's right, you wanted to work for someone like Il Dottore. He's a researcher, and in your opinion, the most pacifistic department. You also heard he's not fond of Vision-wielders, so you thought he would've loved to have someone like you.
But no.
That's not what happened.
You knelled down in front of the door that led into Scaramouche's office, taking a long, thin, metallic tool from your pocket. You stuck the tool into the lock and began to twist and turn the device to pick at the door.
You're probably expecting some deep lore for the reason why you're a lock-picking master, but honestly you just learned it to impress your friends when you were a kid.
Anyway, you don't have a Vision, and honestly you're grateful for that. You've seen what happens to those who's Visions are taken away or destroyed. And if your own personal research has made you learn anything, you're not too eager about being granted into Celestia.
You openly displayed disgust when the recruitment reports. You, along with a handful of other brutish Fatui agents, were selected to be direct subordinates of the Balladeer: Scaramouche, Number Six of the Fatui Harbingers.
Not only that, he appointed you as his second in command simply because you're quiet (around him).
You bit your tongue from cheering out loud when a familiar click came from the door. You pulled the tool out and stuffed it back into your uniform. You quickly stood up and opened the door, slipping inside and quietly closing it behind yourself.
You sighed in relief when you didn't see anyone in the room. Perhaps it was extremely reckless to not check before entering, but that was just a flaw you needed to work on. Noticing the stack of folders on Scaramouche's plain desk, you quickly made your way to the other side of the room.

"YOU BR-" Kazuki quickly lowers his voice to a whisper, "You broke into Lord Scaramouche's office?!"
"Yeh."
"Holy fuck. How are you not dead?!"
"Let me finish."

Each folder was plain and unmarked, you had to open each one and skim for your name to find your folder. There were so many folders, and from what you gathered, three folders belonged to one person. One for their medical/physical information, one for their specialty, and if they wielded a vision or not, and the last one was personal information about the person's detailed background.
You weren't interested in anyone else other than yourself and Kazuki, and Scaramouche wouldn't have your friends' folder, so you only searched for your own.
Skimming through the first files for your name, then separating it three at a time, you begin searching more frantically when you start reaching the bottom and you've yet to see your report.

On the fucking bottom of the pile were your reports, no doubt Scaramouche did that on fucking purpose.
You organize the other folders neatly as they were before, leaving yours out to read it.

You shake your head and check your specialty folder. You don't think you can see how much the Fatui knows about your family, it might break you.
You skim through the folder to the last page where you see notes written in a different font and color. You're pretty sure this is Scaramouche's own notes on your person.
Wields no Vision, yet she is exceptionally more talented and stronger than the other incompetent agents who do wield Visions. She uses a Claymore, but is surprisingly fast with her attacks and just as powerful. I've heard she wants to be on a researching branch, or a collector, or something of the sorts. But that will be a waste of talent, which is why I recruited her before that idiot Childe could. The brat hesitates with harming the others during training, no doubt it will become a liability later on. But with enough exposure, she could become the perfect killer and wea-

You slam the folder closed and spin around to face the door since your dumbass had your back towards the entrance.
You widen your eyes, just realizing that you forgotten your mask with Kazuki in the main room where other agents just fuck around.
You grin nervously, "I... Lord Tartaglia...!"

"HOW ARE YOU NOT DEAD, [Y/N]?!" Kazuki shouts too close to your ear.
You frown and rub your ear against your shoulder, "Well, stop interrupting me, Nao, and I'll tell you!"
"Fine."
"Fine!"

"What are you doing here?" Tartaglia crossed his arms, an expression mixed with a smile and a scold, "You are aware this is Scaramouche's office."
"Wh-uh, w-what are you doing here, hm? Lord Tartaglia?"
You messily shoved your folders under the pile since you were doing it behind your back. You're sure Tartaglia wasn't blind to it, considering he was fucking looking right at you.
"You must've picked the lock, the door wasn't all the way closed," Tartaglia amused you, "Now, explain yourself. I'd hate to have you executed for treason."
"Treason? Isn't that a bit uh-an overreaction?" You bit the inside of your cheek, "I-I just wanted to check why Lord Scaramouche chose me as his direct subordinate. I'm not a Skirmisher, and I did my best to make it perfectly clear that I wanted the most pacifistic branch..."
You turn your gaze to the side, silently referring to the folders behind you on the desk, "I have no other motives, I just wanted to know why the Archons have forsaken me."
You hear a soft puff of air from Tartaglia before the sound of footsteps. You keep your gaze down, knowing better than to look a Harbinger in the eyes.
"Does Scaramouche explain why he recruited you?" Tartaglia asked as he stopped by your side, nudging you to move so he could look at the files.
"Yes, sir. Well, I think so? Something about how he can turn me into a weapon and a killer if the fucker traumatizes me enough," You scoffed.
"Ha-ha! Is that so?"
"Oh!" Shit, you forgot who you were talking to, "I-I mean-I'm so sorry! I mean no disrespect towards Lord Scara-"
"-No, don't worry about it," Tartaglia said dismissively as he picked up your folder from the bottom, "He's certainly unpleasant, I'll give you that. Where are his notes?"
"Second folder, last page."
Tartaglia follows your instructions, grabbing the folder and opening it to the last page. You keep watch of the door, watching and listening for any intruders since Tartaglia didn't bother closing the door. You're sure he did it on purpose so if Scaramouche does come in, the blame would quickly fall on you.
Fucker.
"Interesting. You're a skilled fighter, [L/n]?" Tartaglia mused, "And you hid this fact from me? How rude."
"I'm not-" You felt your eyelid twitch, "-I don't like fighting. That's why I hope to be recruited by someone lame like Lord Dottore. Or even you, so I can just collect debts."
Tartaglia hummed quietly for a moment. You push yourself off the desk, stretching your arms above your head. You're actually preparing yourself to die right now. You disrespected not one, but two Harbingers in front of Tartaglia, got caught breaking into a superior's office, and you didn't even properly greet Tartaglia like you were supposed to.
You're honestly surprised to have lived so long anyway.
"Well, get out of here already," Tartaglia picks up your second folder to read it, not bothering to look at you, "If you leave now, you won't get caught."
You blink in surprise, "I... Lord Tartaglia-"
The ginger finally looks at you with a grin, though it doesn't reach his eyes. Later you learn that it never does.
"-Leave, before I throw the blame on you and say you picked the lock."
You bow deeply in gratitude, "Thank you, Lord Tarta-"
"-Childe."
"...Yes, thank you, Lord Childe."

Kazuki whistles loudly, "Wow..."
"Yep," You cling to Kazuki's arm as you pick up the report you have dropped, "And I guess he kept his word since I'm still alive and Lord Scaramouche hasn't said anything to me yet."
Kazuki suddenly stands up, causing you to fall off the rock and land in the cold snow.
"You fucker! You couldn't give me a warning?! This is why I have trust issues, Nao! You have any-"
"-Let's go inside, [Y-er, [L/n]," Kazuki's tone is suddenly more monotonous as he reaches his hand out, "I actually came out here to get you. Lord Scaramouche requested for you."
"You motherfucker."

God, I fucking hate the morons that go "Here come the dummies making comments about animal abuse!!! It's called conservation, sweaty <3" because they're so fucking obnoxiously uneducated, it's not even funny. Like you said, REAL conservation sites will not let you feed the animals, for one thing, and I also literally volunteer at a raptors rescue center in which TONS of our birds had to be rescued from horrible fucking "owl cafe" type locations in which the birds are neglected and treated like decorations rather than living fucking creatures. These people have LITERALLY NO IDEA how bad these places are for the animals, and yet they pretend like they do, they're literally telling on themselves by showing how fucking stupid they are. In an ACTUAL conservation center like mine, we do have flight shows and we have SOME birds that we allow customers to pet and hold (ones that have been with us for years and that we know have the temperament for it, as well as it having to happen with a staff member present and not for long periods of time) but after that, they get put back into their own enclosures. Repeat, ENCLOSURES, that are large, and with space for them to move and fly as they please. Not one fucking stick that they're goddamn chained to for people to gawk at. These people are tone-deaf, brainless idiots if they genuinely believe those cafes are suitable environments for wild animals. To all Vivzie stans that are defending her support of these places, from the bottom of my heart, fuck you, you horrific, awful, animal abuse enablers. That is what you are, no matter how much you yell and cry that it's not. Fuck you.
It's absolutely maddening. The smug "um, it's called conservation sweaty, it's being rehabilitated in a sanctuary" remarks on the false killer whale burned me the most because cetaceans are my thing in the way birds are yours and there are very few real sanctuaries for cetaceans.
One is the Umba Lumba Center in West Bali, which rehabilitates and releases show dolphins and cares for those who can't. The beluga whale sanctuary in Iceland is another. They're trying to set up one in Nova Scotia, and the Baltimore Aquarium has (ostensibly) been trying ever since 2016.
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, where Viv visisted, is not one of these. Okinawa Churaumi keeps Taiji dolphins.

At this point why do people keep complaining about E/L shippers. I don't get it😭 It's becoming redundant tbh. It's not like they're going to change. On the contrary, at Twitter they just keep growing in masses. We're letting them occupy Levi spaces too often.

I'm really glad you said this, because this is exactly how I feel. I keep getting asked about it, over and over, and it's driving me nuts. That's why I pinned my post about Levi and shipping, to try and get these people to stop bugging me, lol. Instead of asking me about Levi, or wanting to just talk about Levi as his own, separate character, people keep coming to me complaining about Levi/Erwin as a ship and how awful the shippers are, and I really, really just don't care. I don't care about the ship, and I don't care about the shippers. I want to talk about Levi, not about these people and their delusions, lol.
The problem I feel, is I get why people want to complain about it, but by complaining about it constantly, and focusing on it, instead of Levi himself, they're letting these people win. They're letting the shippers dominate the conversation surrounding Levi, so that instead of actually discussing Levi as a character, they only ever talk about the ship of him and Erwin, whether it's to complain about it or not, you're still ONLY talking about it.
Like, damn, there's so much to talk about with Levi as a character. So much to discuss and analyze and understand. But I would say 95% of the questions I get are either people complaining about how much they hate shippers, or coming and telling me about some negative bullshit some idiot on twitter or ticktok said about Levi (when I've said repeatedly that I don't go on those platforms specifically to avoid seeing that shit, and yet they tell me about it anyway). It's like they want me to reassure them that what some moron said about Levi isn't true. You can figure out it isn't true on your own just by reading the manga or watching the anime. That's all you need to counter these fools. Nothing they say should matter or bother you, because the canon completely undoes whatever mad claims they want to make.
Anyway, yeah, it's getting to that point for me too, whenever I see Erwin's name, I feel irritation, because almost every time, I know it's going to be someone asking me if Levi cared more about Erwin than humanity, or accusing Levi of caring more about Erwin than humanity, or asking some dumb fucking question about "the vow" and completely not getting that it wasn't FOR Erwin, it was for all his comrades that gave their lives that day in Shinganshina. It's fucking stupid. Why are people so insecure about Levi's character? They shouldn't be. Levi's character speaks for itself. He doesn't need defending, because he's a genuinely good person and a hero.

Remember when you said that DLF could always make thing worse? Well get a load of this recent rumor per courtesy of YouTuber Tyrone Magnus through a "reliable source". In the Rey movie, Rey will have a 9 year old daughter fathered by none other than Ben Solo's force ghost.
Yep, you read that correctly FORCE GHOST. The “leaker” literally says that Rey could not have a child with anyone else but Ben Solo’s force ghost. 6 whole years after Ben’s death. She will have force ghost sex. In an effort to placate the Reylos and get some of that NYT bestselling moola per the leaker.
I for one as a Reylo will never give them money again for as long as I live if this is true and they go through with it . I haven't since 2019 and I felt that eventually I would get over it and move on, but this? I don’t care how perfect the casting is for the kid. And I don't care if they film Adam and Daisy rawing it on a bed of roses, I would never invest in something so asinine and that’s a promise I will happily keep.
Well, straight off, I don't believe this at all and would say don't worry about it because the chances of anything like that happening are astronomically minute. Just zero credence. But given how catastrophically moronic and goofy the tros leaks were, I can't much blame people for thinking no leak is too stupid to be true. 'Too stupid to be real' is not an argument with purchase in the post-tros world.
In this case, however, it would require them to have understood that Bride of the Brand, creepy permachild cenotaph avatar Rey was bad and why it was hated, and I just don't see it happening while the same people are in charge. They've done nothing but triple down on all their most repugnant and reactionary choices and this (insane) story would be walking a lot of it back. It'd be walking back Repatine Skyusurper and admitting Ben matters, the family matters, and that romance is productive. In the worst way possible, but still. That's admitting they fucked up on pretty much every level. It goes completely against their chosen direction.
And it's awful and stupid and would please no one, but you know, again, we can't use that argument any more.
I'll never give them money again or invest in their shit again no matter what they do, and I will indeed die mad, but I would be very surprised if this was anything other than whole cloth made up. Not shocked per se, because I feel like I've lost the capacity to be shocked by incompetence at this point, but very surprised.

It makes sense and I agree tbh, people are hanging onto how Cool Gallifrey is with its houses, and how you can live basically forever and travel through time and have all this awesome technology but actively don’t Want to see that it’s the proverbial rotten apple in a cartoon. It looks So good until you take a bite out of it and it’s rotten and filled with worms.
Feel like it should also be said that the gallifrey british empire metaphor ALSO takes the rotten to the core class system in the uk and makes it even More explicitly awful (as opposed to generational inherited power where the same families have the same political sway and power hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years down the line with no sign of it ever stopping, it’s literally just the same people who don’t die. Permanent stagnation. No progress.) and you only really get to see the aristocrats and royalty in dw (save for our plucky hero, i guess) and it taps into that specific class envy. The kind where people hate the aristocratic system only bc they’re not at the top of the pile, Not because of any moral objections to it. Jealousy, not opposition.
To them it’s that, if you’re a time lord, not only are you a cool alien who can travel through time, you have pseudo generational wealth and power to go with it! How COOL.
People still don’t wanna admit that these scummy aristocratic monsters are bad in real life, it’s not surprising slightly metaphorical but “cooler” versions of them aren’t hated.
Gallifrey is the british class system on crack in the worst way possible. Your superiority for being Upper Class is now Literally Genetic on Gallifrey.
I cannot read anything about the place without immediately clocking it as a nightmare to the point I can’t fathom an escapist fantasy of wanting to be a part of this. This was before the whole timeless child thing. Now it’s just... wow.
I mean, I’m not Surprised, because i remember everybody saying how cool it’d be to compete in the hunger games and i think that’s a worse fandom thing to be aspiring to, but I guess in that weird little fantasy they’re not actively wishing to be the evil people??? i guess? Fucked up anyway.
(also, I don’t actually think the show has been bad at portraying Gallifrey as bad? Like, yeah sure the doctor goes all nostalgia glasses sometimes but Only when they cannot go there which says things. And generally speaking they’re being nostalgic about local wildlife and flora, not, you know, the society. And strictly speaking, when actual time lords Do show up they’re usually doing something awful. So they don’t often say ‘wow these guys suck’ but it’s generally obvious.)
Really, I think the bottom line is people see the concept of being a time lord as some escapist fantasy of coolness where you’re some kind of hero, both missing that A) if you’re not earth level aristocracy you’re the poor people they oppress and B) that the only actual ‘cool’ time lord is the one who is objectively a moron whom did a runner from said society. And that doing that runner is what started their journey into the realms of ‘good person’ and that they’re hated en masse for it back home.
can’t acknowledge that gallifrey is just a monstrously evil fascist space state with nothing but a good PR (propaganda) team if you wanna be part of it i guess

Head Canons:
-Not so much HC, more so actual canon. He is a construct built from stolen Kheanri'ahan's knowledge. He doesn't need to eat, sleep, or drink. He can, but it isn't necessary for survival. For me, he is male with male anatomy.
-He is a divine puppet! He will never be human. This isn't fucking Pinocchio, and you will not love him in to becoming a real boy.
-That time is spent in research pertaining to Nahida's missions and his desires. He also pokes around in the Abyss, which currently is probably the only place he feels whole.
-Not a player per se, but I wouldn’t put it past him to manipulate randoms into bed, use them for what they are worth, and ghost them… If the mood ever struck him. It would not be pretty or nice in the least.
-There is just nothing soft about this man. He is toxic, selfish, vengeful, hateful and power-hungry. Until he decides to give a fuck about something other than himself and vengeance killing this will remain the case.
-Weaknesses will be exploited. He is not a good person.
-If he’s nice it is because he wants something, or he simply is bored and wishes to toy with someone because he can. We have seen this behavior in the meteor event where he played the good guy to get close and attempt to kill the Traveler and again in Irminsul. It is a mask and a role; he can slide right into it for any reason he chooses.
-On offering his memories back, Nahida specifically states that he will revert to his previous incarnation (The Balladeer). During this cut scene, he specifically says, “All worthless dross will be purged that’s why this won’t be the end.” While he is less antagonistic towards them and he does take responsibility for his actions, he does not regret them. He assists them because he feels like he owes them both and it's better than being worthless.
-He is also an injustice collector. The “betrayals”, outside of Dottore, could be explained to any reasonable being. However, he clings to them like a blanket. It’s not only HIS INJUSTICES he collects. It’s everyone’s, every misstep of every human he has ever met is a mark against humanity. After 400 years of watching humanity doing the awful shit they do, he has simply determined they are inferior.
-He doesn’t stay in Sumeru. He is in contact with researchers due to assisting Nahida. He is not “the popular asshole college/high school guy.” Nahida wants badly for him to see the good in humanity, so I would not put it past her to leak out his birthday and encourage interaction.
-He doesn’t even consider his “birth” day to be anything then another day… and I don't see Nahida being good for him. You don't help a person get better by forcing them to do something they hate; this is only going to breed more hate.
-Wanderer’s clean slate isn’t to fit into humanity, it is to learn to accept himself and to be himself, and going along with that he'd want to be accepted for who he is by the people who claim to care. Which is the dual meaning behind the finches. Rebirth and find your true north. This is your path, stay on it.
-He still hates humanity and still believes that they are inferior. All of this is made clear in his voice lines on his playable character, and all of this combined with his story so far indicates that he's not changed all that much. Sometimes, broken things are just too broken.
-He's been tortured by Dottore twice.
-He’s tried to kill the Traveler on 3 occasions. This ship is not something I am going to write. Is cool if you are into it, it's just a lot for me to get past to even feel anything.
-With that being said he considers the Traver to be a dull naive waste of time. A mewing kitten with a hero complex accompanied by an equally moronic screeching garbage disposal. His somewhat tolerable attitude toward them being nothing more than a shred of respect and repayment.
-Due to spending a lot of time in the Abyss, he's met the Abyss twin, and this would be a preferred interaction.
-On EI. This is easy to write off as abandonment issues and it may have even started off that way. However, over time it's become more anger about being denied his birth right.

Seeing Good Omens 2 from the perspective of an abuse victim (of any kind) is even more heartbreaking. I'm in awe of how well this series was crafted.
I haven't seen actual hate against Aziraphale but I understand the frustration of the fandom, I myself want to kill him for being a fucking moron BUT, at the very start, Crowley was happy. He had pure, childlike, unapologetic joy. Aziraphale may not remember Crowley specifically, but he was smitten with him then, with this happy, gentle face among a vast emptiness of harsh people who are told not to question anything.
I don't think we have seen Crowley this happy and "pure" after the fall and I think he will never be like that again, which is something Aziraphale doesn't understand. He may not remember Crowley in particular (maybe), but he sees what happened to the fallen, he knows that they are not full of wonder and childlike happiness.
I'm not saying Crowley (or victims of abuse) can't be happy ever again, he can achieve happiness, be excited, but I don't think he will ever have the childlike happiness that comes with innocence again. What heaven did to him can't be erased.
Wanting to make everything "perfect" like it used to be (before trust was broken and damage inflicted) is literally like expecting a victim of abuse not to have changed fundamentally after what has been done to them. What happened can't be fixed, and that's what is so heartbreaking about the whole confession and Aziraphale's response.
Crowley has always being kind (not good or nice, just kind), as an angel AND a demon, which is at odds with an institution that told him that killing and doing horrible things is good because that is what God wants, no questions asked. He went to God with suggestions because he has a moral compass and he was punished for not blindly doing awful things.
No matter what anyone does, that can't be changed and the innocence heaven took away from him can't just be restored by "making heaven better now". Aziraphale is too kind of heart too, but he is still caught in a war between what he knows is right and what he thinks he has to do to protect them both.
He didn't fall and he was not there when Gabriel told him to shut his mouth and die. In a way, he has been protected from the full truth of what heaven is like. He is not stupid, he just had the fortune of keeping his innocence more or less intact till now.
He still thinks "demons are inherently bad and angels are inherently good" because he has been conditioned to think that. He knows how badly going against heaven ends for angels. He thinks he can make heaven better with Crowley at his side, not because he wants to change Crowley into someone good (he knows Crowley is kind), but because he wants to see him filled with Innocent joy again. He knows demons are kinda miserable to be honest.
He is doing this out of love for Crowley who, in his mind, must have been his happiest during his time as an angel. He just wants them to be together without the constant fear of "when is heaven going to try to destroy us again?". When the realization of what heaven really is and has always been hits him it's going to be very painful, and it should be. He needs to realize that he made the love of his life think that he turned him down for the THIRD TIME, to chose a side who wanted them both dead, because he is not enough.
Because, after 6000 years of properly knowing each other, and of Crowley showing all the time that he is kind, at times even more than Aziraphale himself, he is still not enough. He is a demon who needs to be "fixed" before he can be loved. He basically put his heart on display and got told that everything would be better and they could be together if he went back to the place were the most traumatic event of his life took place and changed who he is because, you know, he is kind, but he is a demon.
This is why my heart actually broke when he put the sunglasses back. They hid not only that he was crying, but his most obvious demonic feature, which he has always been confortable showing to Aziraphale because he thought they were partners, together, that they always had each others back. But it turns out, at least in Crowley's mind, that Aziraphale was holding up the hope of changing him, of stopping him from being a demon, so he distances himself with the glasses, and even with that distance, he still tried, he was still trying desperately to keep Aziraphale with him because he loves him, he gave all he had in that kiss but it was still not enough.
We have the miscommunication of the century here. An angel that is giving up his freedom to try to restore the innocent joy of the love of his life -something impossible because you can be happy and live your best life after trauma but it changes you permanently and that can't be undone- and in the process, he made his partner think that he doesn't love him for who he is but for who he was or could be; and a demon who is so kind that he is giving up the being he loves the most because going back to a rotten institution like heaven would go against everything he believes in, but who is also so bad at communicating, he failed to tell Aziraphale that everyone up there cheerfully wanted him to die, that Gabriel quit because heaven wanted to destroy earth again, and that they are still planning to do so.
I'm pretty sure Crowley actually remembers Aziraphale from before The Beginning. He keeps saying that he doesn't remember all the people from the fall or from when he was an Angel but I think he's lying. He was the only one who recognized The Metatron, something not even Michael did, and he remembers his rank and the "password" for confidential stuff. It must be so painful for him to see Aziraphale choosing a side Crowley deeply knows to be rotten instead of their relationship because of a lack of understanding on Aziraphale's part.

Like I could count on my hand all the times folks would have their hot takes about upcoming shows, for example regular show, adventure time etc, and the creators kept their mouth shut and had the shows quality speak for itself

To be fair, and this is on me for not scrolling through the comments of the reupload, the person who made the comments wasn't the creator but is actually one of the main VAs.
That still doesn't help because she's still representing this show, but still; presenting correct information for the sake of being genuine.
Now, aside from that: what she's referring to when calling LatAm people 'Native American's is the notion that everything from Canada all the way down to Chile was known as 'The Americas' during the Age of Imperialism. So, under that mindset, all of the indigenous groups from Canada to Chile would be Native Americans.
The thing with that is, though, is that not only has the cultural makeup of these regions drastically changed from then to now, but even back then the indigenous groups in these areas would not have been in some kind of Kumbaya unity with each other. So lumping them all together is a misstep.
But then again, all of this gets hurled out of the window because I keep seeing people talking about how the show is supposed to be based in L.A., so...

As a Garmadon fan, seeing some of these people talk about Wu and Misako is fucking insane. Like, I’ve always been pretty indifferent to the two of them, not because of anything they’ve done, more just because I don’t find them all that interesting (to me). But damn I do not think they deserve some of the hate they get. People get fucking unhinged going on rants about how they’re bad people or whatever when all of their evidence is just twisting the truth or making shit out to be worse than what actually happened? Like, yes, Misako left lloyd in a boarding school for bad boys, do I think that was a mistake? Uh, probably. Perhaps a different school would have been a better choice, but whatever. She had Lloyd’s best interests at heart when she did so. It was not out of malice or anything but people just. Don’t get that. It’s so stupid. Anyway. Point of this: keep up the good work. Stand up for those two little Lego people, and don’t let the morons out there get to you. They are stupid and it shows

Yeah, leaving Lloyd at Darkley's wasn't the best move, but we literally know nothing about Misako's situation at the time, other than Garmadon was succumbing to the venom or was already in the Underworld, and she knew Lloyd would be the Green Ninja. That's IT. We don't know if she HAD other options.
Also, it's really weird when people compare taking your kid to a BOARDING SCHOOL to leaving them at an orphanage???? Those are two different things???
And I wish people would stop saying she left him to "go exploring" or stuff like that.... she left him to research the prophecy. To find out all she could, maybe even stop it.
And since coming back into Lloyd's life, she's been there constantly.

Hey, are you up for receiving an entire freaking essay about how you write Dirk and how fucking incredible it is? That was a rhetorical question, YOU'RE GETTING IT ANYWAY.
So. Dirk Strider. The absolute moron who sends himself back every iteration, gets increasingly splintered as a result, and is way too emotionally compromised to do anything about it at this point. I've noticed a lot of the characters draw inspiration from beyond canon, so we can refer to this Dirk as a sort of Ultimate self if I am not mistaken. The guy has memories from all past iterations rattling around his skull after all, and it is MESSING HIM UP BIG TIME!
Like, the man is going by a script at this point. Do this, and this happens as a result. Say this to a person and they'll react that way. Let Roxy leave so you can stay with Dave alone, stab him in the back, and leave him for dead so he gets off the empire's radar, make sure he doesn't actually bite it, and then he'll end up in the position most advantageous to him. He has a ship! A crew! A small support system! He's living his best life this iteration, and he has DIRK to thank for that! Never mind that most of his relationships were completely destroyed in the fallout. Never mind that he has accumulated major trauma from the carapacian war, and was betrayed by someone who he thought he could count on for anything, that's not important. Oh yeah, he hates Dirk's guts now, but he always calculated with that loss. He sacrificed his brother's trust in him and it sucks, it sucks and nobody understands, but it was to give him a happy life, so at the end of the day Dirk's the selfless hero!
And with that, I've accumulated my thoughts on what I think went through his head when he went through with this batshit awful plan. Dirk's literally so wrapped up in himself, that he can only think in terms of other's gain versus personal cost. I don't think he's selfish, no, from a certain perspective, he's far from it, because he's sacrificing the few things he holds dear for the few people he actually gives a shit about in all these loops. His relationships with said people. It's just that he is INCAPABLE of seeing how his decisions and attempts at helping them cause more pain and anguish, and eventually, the doom of the timeline. It's like at one point, he stopped seeing them as real people, with psyches that can be damaged, and feelings that can be things beyond 'I hate you now because you hurt me', and instead thinks of them as merely... puppets.
Because he's the only one who remembers. He's the one who can see the bigger picture, while his friends and family are caught up in the mundanity of each loop, living lesser lives, being lesser people. If only they knew, if only they understood like him, maybe they could be on equal footing, but no, he'd never wish this existence on anyone, and besides, even if they had all that intel they'd never really get it, because they aren't him. So it falls on him to save everyone, him and only him, no Grimmage, just because you have a handy helmet that spouts bullshit about the loops at you does not mean you have all the answers. This is Dirk's mission, Sollux would just fuck it up. Everybody needs to stay out of the goddamn way, you're saving this goddamn timeline. All those previous ones you doomed? They were just test runs, you know what you're doing now.
I just... LOVE how AUTHENTIC he feels in your fic. Like, I look at this guy and say 'Ah yes, that right there is textbook Dirk Strider behavior,' but you wrote him with motivations and a mindset that I can see combined with his Ultimate status. He's an incredible antagonist, and I can't wait for him to show up again, because I need Dave to go up to this guy and somehow slap some sense into him. Unlikely but hey. I want a happy ending for him too, let me hope.
Okay, first of all, I loved this ask! I've put a lot of time and effort into writing Gold Pilot so if anyone has other essay-length asks or comments about the fic, go ahead and submit them, this monster AU deserves the attention. For anyone who hasn't read the fic, it's a Davesolkat Rebellion/Time Loop Au but it also will go deep into the other characters as well, particularly the Strider-Lalondes, so if you're into that, give it a read!
Okay, now onto Dirk- he's one of my fav characters in Homestuck okay, he's so complex! And I felt like they did him dirty in Beyond Canon and the Epilogues but at the same time they explored some hella interesting aspects of his character that have been in the main comic there all along, same with everyone else. Gold Pilot is MY take on how everyone's true 'Ultimate Self' would work and also them reaching their 'fullest potential' in a way? The situation is much different than in canon, of course, but overall I will try to deconstruct both, the Ultimate Self thing AND the classpect of their God Tier selves. This will happen to everyone, not just Davesolkat, though we WILL focus on those three because I have Davesolkat brainrot and Dave WILL be the only POV character because ‘unreliable narrator who might not have an idea of what’s going on’ is the best trope.
But Dirk- it's funny that you call him an antagonist because he's not that in the story. An antagonist opposes the hero/protagonist in some way, they're there as an obstacle to achieve their ultimate goal, but here's the thing, Dirk WANTS what everyone else wants. He wants an end to the Time Loops, he wants to protect his family and friends and help them reach the best version of themselves, and he also wants to kill the Condesce. Mainly because she's the one who kills Dave, Roxy and Rose, but also, because he recognizes that she's the TRUE threat in this AU (as far as we know). So no, technically, Dirk ISN'T the villain and he's helping everyone else fullfill their own goals, the role they will play in the Rebellion as it is, and he knows full well that they WON'T achieve that unless he's there to provide support.
You're right that he's sacrificing everything else to achieve this. He sacrificed Dave's trust on him, and Dave IS in probably the best position he can be because of it. Does Dave realize this at this point of the story? Probably not. There's hints that Dirk's actually going to be working with them further in on the timeline, but right now? Right now Dave thinks his brother is the person who ruined his life.
You're right in saying that Dirk's so completely wrapped up in himself, but I don't think he's incapable of seeing how his attempts at helping everyone are actually hurting them. I think he's well aware of this, and a part of him is well-aware that none of them will ever forgive him, but he's fine with this because this makes him an even more selfless hero. He does treat them as puppets, but I think he knows that he NEEDS them to be certain versions of themselves so they can properly fight the Condesce. Also, he's aware that even in this, they have a certain level of personal choice. Would he have been forced to stab Dave on the back if he HADN'T become a Treschutioner? We know Dave could have become an entertainer guy instead, and he would have STILL ended up with the Rebels. We've explored this with the Iteration Logs of the Solluxes, but the timelines are less a straight road where everything always happens the same way and more a collection of choices that give out wildly different results while still ending in the same way any way because the Condesce is such a menace, with everyone dead.
And he's another fun thing, Dirk doesn't ACTUALLY know about the helmet. Sollux has specifically kept him in the dark about it because he's convinced Dirk would exploit it if he knew about it, especially because the helmet's not only a device that spouts info about the timeloops. It's a goddamn database containing the research that EVERYONE Sollux has been able to contact has done in the past, what? 286 years or so. So yes, it's quite a powerful tool, but you're right, Mage doesn't have all the answers. And you can say that Mage's actually some kind of cheat code. It allows Sollux to have access to the memories of the loops WITHOUT all the trauma and emotional baggage that come with them, so if anything, I suppose that Dirk would think of it as the coward's way out.
Sollux quite literally decided to divide himself into two different people (or as different as two people can be when one does have all the memories of the other one) and has basically locked the part of himself that DOES remember in a digital prison/dimension, where it cannot harm anyone or control anyone else. What this has done to Mage, well, I think we’ve seen it already, so yes, one could argue that this is an incredibly selfish thing that Sollux did, meanwhile Dirk isn’t afraid to live with the consequences of his own actions, which automatically makes him the better man/hero.
As far as Dirk knows, Sollux DOES remember, he's just, you know, someone who will not do what is necessary to save the timeline. He's soft, he spends so much time trying to get along with everyone that he allows the people he loves to get killed every single time (though Dirk's doing the exact same thing, one could argue). They're more foils to each other that they're enemies, and it will be a lot of fun once we actually see them interact, because while Dirk does think Sollux is as easily manipulated as everyone else, and that he doesn't have what it takes to save everyone which is why it falls on HIM, Dirk does know that Sollux is the only person who knows him in a way. Who can recognize the sacrifice he's making and just what's at stake here, if he doesn't take exactly the same path he's taken every time to ensure everyone will be able to fight for as long as they can.
You're right on the money on the 'Dirk thinking all the other iterations are test runs for the real deal', because Dirk HAS found pretty much the 'best path' for everyone to take. We'll see more of it when we meet Rose, who IS still a very powerful seer in this AU and who also takes after him in a way, but yeah, the fantastic thing about Dirk is that he IS helping everyone and he does care. He's on Dave's side. He just, you know, also Dirk. That's why I've always found fascinating about his character, and what I liked about him in the actual comic. I feel like Beyond Canon let go of that fundamental part of him (the fact that he DOES care) and I'm using Gold Pilot to basically fix that? Basically how I think it should've been handled.
As for the happy ending- I don't think it's much of a spoiler that Gold Pilot WILL have one, because it's in the tags themselves lmao. 'Earn Your Happy Ending', they will get there, but it will take them a long time, and it won't happen in this iteration even. Dave WILL slap some sense into Dirk, but who knows, maybe it'll be Dirk who slaps some sense into him too before he does.
Once again, thank you for this analysis! I wouldn't say I'm the authority on how to write any of the Homestuck Characters, but I'm glad I at least got Dirk's character right :) as I said, he's one of my faves and his relationship with Dave will be explored and milked for all of its angst and comfort in this fanfic.

Rant
For almost 1.5 years, Elriels have been berated, harassed and screamed at on every platform about the Lightsinger theory. ENDLESSLY.
We've been accused of hating women. Of hating and abusing a victim of r*pe. We've been called horrendous names. Bombarded with vile anons, telling us that we should get r*ped and killed because we are making an SA victim a Lightsinger. We've been accused of making an SA victim a 'luring' siren, and how dare we, because we are 'excusing' assault. We are giving 'approval' to men who r*pe because we are saying that it's the woman's fault.
SO. MUCH. BULLSHIT.
SO. MUCH. ABUSE.
And now, when the author giggled like an idiot in an interview and essentially confirmed that indeed Gwyn is a Lightsinger, those same people are celebrating!!! OMG! Look! Gwyn is mates with Azriel (? WTF) OMG, such a good theory!!
Am I fucking enraged by this bullshit? Yeah.
I still remember very well how I posted that the Sangravah scene was a retcon, that in ACOMAF Mor wasn't in Sangravah,a nd that SJM changed the story. That was just an observation. A pretty simple post supported by sceenshots from the books. And then I was accused of 'denying' Gwyn's SA. Of not believing women who state that they were r*ped. I've gotten like 50 anons in 2 hrs, telling me to kill myself, hoping I'd get sexually assaulted and that I am a piece of shit human being.
3 months later, the big Gwynriel accounts admitted that it was a retcon and suddenly ... silence. Oh, well, it was a retcon, no big deal. Because you know, clearly it's because Gwyn and Azriel are mates! (naturally)
I am not even mad at the moronic Gwynriels, though the ruthlessness with which they attack people for pointing out the obvious is gross and absolutely abhorrent. But I am pissed at SJM and BB for perpetuating all of this toxicity. I am really, genuinely disappointed not only with how the fandom behaves and how women treat other women, but how the author treats her fans.
But also, this is such a good, if unfortunate, lesson in how awful herd mentality is. How easy, and how devastating it is to become part of something that is ugly and bullying towards others.

(IsmaGenie briefly follows Alix and Kim. He floats up to Alix, staring daggers at her.)
IsmaGenie: When this is done, I’m going to have a word with you. And it won’t be pretty.
Aladdix: This is bullshit, Kim!
Kimules: You’re out of line, Alix. You were tryna get her to fight you, when you knew she was sensitive about it.
Aladdix: You’re on her side?! After all that shit she did in freshman year?!
Kimules: You know damn well that’s not the case. You’re heated, and you need to breathe. End of discussion. Oh, and you better hope that Ismael’s cooled down enough by the time he gets here.

*Meanwhile, Zoe is taking Chloe to her room as well. Chloe already looks ashamed, and just wants to get the discussion over with.*
Chloestasia: I know, I know, I’m sorry, ok?! I just couldn’t take it anymore!
CinderZoe: Well the first way to prove that she’s wrong is by not taking the bait. She’s not able to cope with the fact that you’re trying to change, so she’s lashing out. We’re going to talk with her tomorrow, and this’ll start to resolve.
Chloestasia: I don’t hate her, Zoe. I promise, I just thought that if I beat her up there, she’d shut up about it.
CinderZoe: Well that’s not how the world works, ok? Think about it, did anyone else really seem like they wanted you to fail? Do you think everyone in this place hates you?
Chloestasia: No… but they could’ve come to my defence, right?
CinderZoe: They were probably too shocked to respond, and Kim defended you right? And Alix is one of his best friends.
Chloestasia: Yeah… I guess I just lost myself. Well, I’ll apologize to her tomorrow. I don’t even care if nothing changes. I just want to move on.
CinderZoe: Look, how about you sleep on it. Ok? You’ll be calmer in the morning.
Chloestasia: I don’t deserve you, you know that?
*Chloe sighs as she hugs her sister. She still has a lot of work to do, and she's trying her best.

Honestly, she just wanted this day to be over and for everyone to act like nothing had happened. Mostly, she hoped she could avoid Ismael until he calmed down. IsmaGenie: Don’t go thinking you were gonna get out of this! You and me, we’re going to have a talk!
Aladdix: Aw come on, man! I already aplogized, what more do you want me to do? *The genie floats in, not even bothering with any funny illusions or wisecracks. He's hopping mad.*
IsmaGenie: You know as well as I do that you apologized so it would be brushed under the rug, and so you could avoid this moment. Well, not a chance, sister!
Aladdix: Alright, go on. Yell at me and about how I'm the biggest moron in the world. *This actually makes Ismael even more furious. He knows exactly what she's doing. She's pulling an Adrien, well a Past Adrien to be fair, the boy had made a lot of progress from escaping those tactics. He's gonna yell at her alright, and gonna verbally slap some sense into her.*
IsmaGenie: Don’t do that, Alix. Don’t fucking try to pull that with me! You were wrong and you know it, that’s why you’re acting defensive, because of your god-damned pride! You made an ignorant comment at the WORST possible time, and when you were called out for that, you made a complete jackass of yourself, and attacked Chloé in front of not only our friends, but those evil psychos too! You KNOW she’s been working to improve herself, and you’re the only one who still gives her shit about it. Why?! You know what I think? I think you’re taking out your anger towards people from our past on someone who, while they may have deserved it before, doesn’t now! And that’s not okay at Alix, it’s not okay at all! And if Aus was here, he’d say the same thing, and you know it! So don’t go to him like you always do when we have a disagreement. We’re not leaving this room until you LEGITIMATELY admit that you fucked up!
*Aladdix looks stunned, and can barely squeak out a response* Aladdix: I know I fucked up alright? I knew it as soon as I made that comment during her meeting. I knew it all along.
*Ismael blinks, and sputters. Why did she keep going if she already knew she was wrong?*
IsmaGenie: Then what the fuck was all that down there?! If you knew you were wrong, then why did you try and make it worse? Especially in front of people you KNEW would take advantage of the situation!
Aladdix: BECAUSE I WANTED HER TO BE WRONG TOO!... I figured if she fought me, then I could pretend I was right. I know damn well that she's been getting better, ok? I know! I just... it felt good! It felt good to take her down a peg. It's a problem. allright! I like being right, and when I'm not, then I get stubborn. And it just so happens that even if I know Chloe's changed, I still hate her voice, her face, her personality, everything! I don't hate her, just everything she is!
IsmaGenie: And you think you’re the only one?! Half the time, it’s painful for me to be in the same room as her! Same as it is for Ivan, Juleka, Max, Denise, you get the gist! But where you go wrong is that you don’t try to confront and work through those feelings, you just let them boil over and it makes you act like an asshole at the worst possible times!
Aladdix: You're right, ok? It's just... I'll never be able to fully accept her, ok? I can leave her alone, let her do what she wants... but she will NEVER be my friend. I know about the trauma or whatever. But her parents put a roof over her head. I mean, look at Zoe, she was abused too, but she didn't treat me like garbage! And you can say, "Oh, Alix, her mom was so horrible to her, even if it was less than Zoe" BUT AT LEAST HER MOM'S ALIVE! *Begins to tear up* At least she has a dad even if he wasn't that good a parent. *Tears fall down her cheek*
IsmaGenie: *Calming down a little* Al…
Aladdix: *Full on sobbing now* Her sister still loves her! *Punching the wall* MY. BROTHER'S. FUCKING. DEAD! *She lets out a rageful scream, before sobbing into IsmaGenie's arms* Aladdix: I HATE IT! IT'S NOT FAIR! WHY DID MINE HAVE TO DIE?! WHY DOES SHE GET TO HAVE FAMILY?!

Honestly, wrt that masking post, I see unmasked people I immediately know that my life isn’t worth anything to them. i find reading 4chan posts absolutely fascinating in a like anthropological study way. everyone on that site has something horrifically wrong with them but there's a clear dividing line between people who are managing their lives but hang out on there because they are also unbelievably racist vs people who know theres something wrong with them and with the world but cant cope with it and get encouraged by the site to sink deeper into their own misery. i think there was a point in time when there were people on 4chan who werent reprehensible human beings but we're long past that point and now its just purely egregiously awful.
but there is something so interesting about it as a like hive of human suffering. no one on there is like actually happy with their lives. sometimes you get those posts like the turtle one i just reblogged that are kind of beautiful in their earnest appreciation for life and that we can all empathise with but there's no doubt in my mind that every single other post that user has made is like talking about the pussy phrenology of different anime girls.
you have this very specific type of person who is completely disaffected by society and is deeply isolated, either has no real friends or no one he feels close with enough to be actually honest with, understands that the system we live in is broken and that he himself is a broken person, but has chosen to concentrate all that anger and misery into becoming the most hateful version of themselves possible. probably doesn't even see it as a choice because he doesn't see immediate reward for making the most minute amount of effort to improve his life, so assumes that it's totally helpless. and that's not to say they don't live in circumstances that do make profound change incredibly difficult because i have seen that some of them do, but there's also a refusal to stop being in online spaces that are actively encouraging you to destroy yourself.
there's this very specific type of person you get, which is someone whose rage and misery comes from their own narcissism. they are convinced they are smarter, better, more worthwhile than everyone around them, that everyone they know is a moron and a worthless person. but they themselves see no success and no happiness in their own life, despite the fact they feel they deserve better. and because they know they're the best person alive but they're also a failure by their own metric, they become hateful both internally and externally. obviously to some extent we all feel something like this, we all at one point or another get stuck in a shitty job or shitty class or shitty family that is holding you back and you're with genuinely bad people. but with this case, with this kind of real internalised hatred, your anger escalates outside of just immediate irritating coworkers, there's this genuine pure and unbridled hatred and rage for everyone around you for experiencing any kind of earnest and genuine emotion in the face of your own misery.
and that kind of mindset is an epidemic on 4chan, that each of them deserves more and that they despise anyone who feels anything earnestly. they're not really capable of escaping their own cynical hatred. unsurprisingly you see this a lot with white supremacists and misogynists, since most if not all 4chan users are also white supremacists and misogynists, where their whiteness and maleness should automatically make them the superior but they aren't successful and therefore there must be some other reason, some kind of conspiracy against them. there's this constant awareness on 4chan that the system is fucked but they're also unable to put the pieces together because of their own bigotry and their own refusal to see that they might be wrong.
it's interesting to me because on one level there's things I understand; i have been profoundly lonely and isolated almost my entire life, i feel disenfranchised by the terrible system we live in, i love the movie Drive. i can also sometimes understand the desire to make yourself as reprehensible to outsiders as possible, to become some kind of truly vile thing to make everyone who doesn't understand feel ill and uncomfortable and awful. but i also can never understand everything else, the deep-seated true venomous hatred for all humanity, the bigotry, the total close-minded determination to be miserable. it's like looking through some kind of hideous black mirror of what life could be like if i didn't grow up being taught feminist theory and anti-racism. because i don't think there's any single innate trait that proves you can or can't be one of these people, it takes effort. you have to work to expand your knowledge, to open your mind, to keep trying. you have to be able to accept when you're wrong. you have to choose to care about people.
but like i said i do read a lot of these posts and it is always fascinating to me how much these people try to escape their humanity but are so human in doing so. there's something kind of Sisyphean about it.
there was a trend back in the 2012s on here to talk about 4chan like it was full of leet dark hackers and at some points in time there have definitely been people on there who know how cybersecurity works and how to get around it, but as of this present year in the 2020s, the userbase seems to be almost entirely just the most pathetic, saddest part of humanity imaginable. i assume that has a lot to do with the shifting userbase, the website changing hosts and domains and owners, etc, and the different face of the internet now. mostly now i think they're just profoundly sad.
and its like. I do find these people fascinating. but they are also so fucking unbelievably mind-numbingly boring. they will never produce anything true or beautiful because they are so fucking scared of feeling and of people. they will just sit alone for their entire lives believing that if it's going to get better it will only be because of someone finally recognising their genius.
i don't know if you can or can't help them. I don't really see it as our duty to do so. if someone is a nazi for their entire young adult life i don't think any of us should have to fix that for them. I think if the system we live in is changed it will also make life better for them, because it will make life better for everyone, but i don't particularly want to assign the duty of "we NEED to help these poor racist white men" to anyone. i understand how people get in these positions but it's the same issue again and again. a total refusal to take any action out of a sense you should not be inconvenienced, people should hand stuff to you.
i have no real deeper conclusion here. i just find something really strange and interesting about looking at a post about seeing a beautiful spark of hope for humanity and knowing that that same person, the day before, wrote about how he intentionally shit himself in public to try and make a woman on the bus uncomfortable.

Yes, from ages 8-17ish maybe, I loved hp, it was my main special interest/ocd obsession for pretty much the entirety of that time. blah blah read the books a zillion times wrote fanfic first tumblr fandom *checks watch* went to the theme park owned merch was in the high school hp club etc. I still unfortunately have a hp username in some old things where usernames are permanent. He's the one who convinces Harry to start using unforgivable curses (remember that shaun video in which he points out that the potterverse has no "bad actions" only "bad people?" yeah harry uses the torture and mind control spells like, repeatedly, with ZERO FUCKING REFLECTION OR CONSEQUENCES OR CARE and it's fine, they're such bad books man.) Griphook literally leads harry away from the light of christ and backstabs him. bill warns harry that goblins are Not Like Us, because they have evil and weird and unholy traditions and magic and steal power from wizards. jo specialized in studying the historical roots of legends and fairy tales throughout uni and has talked about them at length. she literally dual majored in "classics" (and french, strangely, considering how she writes french people lmao. failing upwards?) And yet she managed to go as dark and bad as possible on every occasion. Joanne knew exactly what she was writing. AND EVEN IF SHE DIDN'T, somehow, she has doubled down in subsequent years. There was no, "yeah, sorry about the goblins and the house elf shit, I dunno what I was thinking but we won't be doing that anymore!" House elves and goblins continue to be featured and doubled down on, between pottermore, the terrible fantastic beasts movies, and this game (you can own your own slaves in the game i believe, hooray!) Fantastic beasts even features a ***part-house-elf*** woman. Let THAT horror sink in. The franchise has doubled down on and actively CHOSEN TO FOCUS ON its worst and darkest parts and there is no more way to hide behind any semblance of ignorance at this point.
(The same goes for Umbridge being raped by centaurs. There is NO FUCKING WAY that was not deliberate. The woman literally studied english fairy tales for school. SHE KNEW. Rape is a punishment in HPland. Hermione literally gets sexually assaulted by a guy and Harry tells her it serves her right for leading him on and the book nods right along with him. Joanne hates cis women too lol)
People have written at length about the game's plot and why it is clear, blatant, not accidental antisemitism and blood libel. The game's original director was a far right gamergate lunatic and I SINCERELY doubt he was the only one of the crew who was. None of this was an "oopsie poopsie we made a big nosed shady advisor" and the devs are not the sweet widdle victims you morons want them to be! And continuing deeper into the franchise: there's a whole lot of nazi imagery surrounding Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts (originally played by fucking Depp the wifebeater who collects nazi memorabilia for kicks so that's on the nose). Guess which main character turns to the dark side and starts doing evil nazi shit? The one named Goldstein. The Jew. Yay! Also she was, like, mind controlling her good christian boyfriend to force him to marry her, so there's a lot going all the way down on that one huh.
And honestly, even when people are expressing allyship it's all so fucking performative! You all just keep going "oh there's goblins" and then recommending fucking alternatives. I don't want to hear about how pjo/earthsea/witch hat atelier/owl house/twilight/animorphs/whatever is Wholesome And Perfect and Good! This is not an opportunity to stan! Do you people really think, when discussing a violently antisemitic game that's part of a franchise made by a fascist, the appropriate way to end your twee little thread is by promoing some OTHER children's media that you think has the morally pure high ground? Do you realize how performative that makes your so-called allyship feel?? Do you genuinely believe that these GROWN ASS ADULTS simply did not know that other children's media about wizards and magic exists in the world and that is the only thing driving them to keep worshiping at joanne's feet even now?? You think they just genuinely believed this video game is the only video game in the universe? The whole thing reminds me of how, at peak 3h-popularity-fighting, there were many long threads going around twitter about how Hubert falls into the "shady advisor" stereotype and how Rhea and co are secretly lizards and how that's not great. Yeah, sure, not great, old stereotypes rooted in antisemitism that media can't seem to turn away from. And then those SAME PEOPLE would talk about "instead stan tellius!" Tellius which features these characters, who form a tribe specifically known for being backstabbing greedy traitors obsessed with money, who sell one of their blond white beautiful allies into slavery for money. THAT tellius. And that's what i mean by performative fucking allyship. Based on their own behavior, none of those people appeared to give a real shit about Jews. It looked like they were only pretending to so they could come up with a way to dunk on Modern Fire Emblem and encourage people to play Classic Fire Emblem. And not that the modern games didn't deserve criticizing! But it was so, so clear that none of them had any fucking clue what they were talking about, were just pointing to tropes and going "antisemitic!" without bothering to learn the hows and whys and critically analyze the context. So I do strongly encourage people to try and learn about WHY certain media is so bad and, while intent certainly isn't the be and end all, why certain portrayals are so much worse than others. Naesala is a damn sight more of an antisemitic caricature than Rhea, and fucking obviously the wizard school game is worse than owl house! It is much worse, much more insidious, and Warner Bros, avalanche, etc have all joined right in, doubled down, and made it very clear that antisemitism as well as slavery apologism is a key part of the series and not going away for a good long time by making it EVEN WORSE in the games and movies. even if she wasn't seeing a penny of any of it (lol!) her ideas are being happily and uncritically spread by you fucking lunatics.

Just grow up. It is really, and i mean this from the bottom of my heart, genuinely unhealthy and sad to still be so deeply tied to your favorite book when you were ten. It's time to move on. It's past time to move on. Thank the books for what they did for you and let them go. Personally, I can't engage with any HP media. I derive zero joy from it and haven't since like...I don't know, 2016ish maybe. Even the last dregs I clung to were more fond memories of sharing the books with friends and family. I truly don't understand how anyone can still like them knowing what they now stand for. But even if you're not like me, even if you've managed to fool yourself into believing this is a franchise about love and kindness and leftism (lol), it's time, it's PAST time, to move forward. Nothing wrong with liking old media or children's media or even problematic media (to an extent ofc). But when a series is doing this much tangible harm, when you are so deeply entwined with it that you feel you have no identity without it, when nostalgia has become more important than your principles...then you need to let it go. If you don't care enough about trans people, or Jewish people, or rape victims or Black people or Chinese people or Irish people or Scottish people or gay people, then do it for yourself, because being shackled to your childhood like that is simply not healthy.
