GOOD NEWS GUYS, IT'S A BUG AND I'LL TELL Y'ALL HOW TO FIX IT!

So what was going on here?

Apparently, they changed something an update or more ago, so if you're using an outdated version of the app or have been working with one tumblr tab for a while without restarting your browser, there can be some issues. Don't ask me how or why, this site is held together by duct tape.

I'm experiencing this bug. What do I do?

If you're using the app (note that I can only speak for the android version but I'm guessing it'll work the same on iPhone) you should update it. If you don't have the space (I know it's why I always have auto updates disabled) you should be able to make a new sideblog in your browser, then customise it even on the app and use it normally. If you're using a browser, close all tumblr tabs and open a new one and it should be fixed. If you're still having issues after that, hit me up, we'll try fixing it and I'll add it to the post.

Is tumblr phasing out page view and archives at a later time?

Honestly, who knows. But knowing them it's also possible they messed something up that makes sideblog creation no longer backwards compatible, god knows when or with what. I am hoping this was a genuine bug and nothing else. Losing the archive would be one of the worst changes this website could make. And the page view? Man. But here's hoping the site stays somewhat habitable.

So what happens now?

Nothing. I inform people where I can that it's a bug, not an intentional change, I apologise to them, and we all stay here forever as always. In case anyone else has the same problem I did...

I wanted to opt out of tumblr's new abyssmally tone-deaf and reprehensible scheme to scrape their users' content to sell to their generative AI business partners, but neither app or desktop version showed the toggle, despite updates.

For me, what finally worked was to go to tumblr.com/settings/blog/x (where x is the username of your blog) in a web browser and scroll all the way down.

There I finally found the toggle to opt out.

Please opt out, in solidarity with artists and writers and other creatives, to protect yourself - and to send the higher-up a clear message that we tumblr users aren't "content", and our posts are not for sale.

The more poisioned art midjourney eats, the more useless it will get. Nightshade has already become so commonplace amongst artists that its already starting to happen. With this bullshit fucking deal tumblr is pulling, you have the power to make it happen faster.

Poison your art, make sure its on a side blog opted IN to third party ai data sets, and then we sit back and watch it catch fire. This is going to be the worst deal midjourney ever made.

Just so you know, tumblr is currently using art for AI training and the only way to stop them is to go into your settings and turn it off 'third party sharing' manually (on each of your blogs)

Hey guys! I haven't seen any posts about this yet but since it seems like Tumblr is going to go ahead with the selling of all of our work, now is the perfect time to go through your settings on EACH BLOG that you run to turn off sharing! It's super easy, just a bit time consuming.

Here's the desktop directions:

Go to your Blog Settings

Scroll down to the Visibility section and turn off the Share with Third Party option

Remember to do this on EVERY BLOG YOU RUN!

Hopefully the mobile version isn't much different, I don't go on Tumblr on my phone so someone will have to make a new post or reblog the instructions on here.
