You’re drained from another stressful midterm. You’re sure you failed it, and it takes everything within you to hold back tears as you glare at the blurred lines painted on the asphalt below your windshield. You want nothing more than to go home and drown your thoughts in a scalding shower, and the thought of another night shift at Fazbear’s Fright wrings your stomach with nausea. The thought of him, with all of his teasing, only makes you feel worse.

He’s been waiting for you again, probably scratching away in the faded purple notebook you had given him. When you enter the office, his ears perk up, awaiting your usual greeting of a pat on the head and a silly nickname. You don’t have the energy for it today, and you slouch wearily in the creaky chair. You try to ignore the pervasive light of his silver eyes as they search your face.

After a few minutes of watching you listlessly check the cameras on the monitors, he walks up close to you and stands by your shoulder. You crane your neck to meet his gaze and are met with the familiar grimace of the decaying animatronic suit. You have long grown used to his disconcerting appearance and smell, and now you can only bring yourself to stare tiredly into his face. He tilts his head curiously, as if to ask you what’s wrong.

“I’m okay, man. I just want to get through tonight,” you sigh.

He pauses before returning to get his notebook. Bringing it back to you, he scribbles a reply. Your head is swimming, and you struggle to read his words.

You don’t look okay

“Seriously, I’ll be alright, man. I just need to zone out for a bit. I had a rough day,” you answer, the words sounding colder than you expect.

Springtrap notices the change in your tone, and hesitates again before writing another reply.

Would you like to talk about it?

“No!” you groan, the events of the day flooding back into your mind. Your face heats up, and you lean over your desk and rub your eyes with your fingers.

You hear the animatronic’s footsteps, followed by silence. Whatever. You’re not in the mood for his drama right now anyway.

You stay like that for a good ten minutes until you feel a tap on your shoulder. You open your eyes to see Springtrap back at your shoulder, arms folded behind his back. You open your mouth to speak, but he puts a hand up and gestures to the other side of the room as if to show you something.

“What is it?” you mumble, and he takes your hands, pulling you gently from your chair.

He leads you to the beanbag chair that you brought for him to sit in, and he guides you to sit down. You notice that he’s made some sort of set-up for you. He’s placed your thermos, headphones, and favorite snack by your side, along with your phone and a few comics he knows you like. You’re shocked by the gesture, and you can only gape at him like an idiot until he begins writing in his notebook again.

I will take over for tonight. You relax

“But it’s my job, and I know sitting for a while makes you restless—” you try to protest, but he leans over and holds up a finger.

I don’t mind. I want you to be okay

You sit there for a moment, unsure of what to say. You don’t notice that you’ve started crying until he kneels down to wrap his arms around you, pulling you close to his chest. The synthetic fur of his suit brushes your cheek, and your shoulders heave and shake as you cry unceremoniously into his shoulder. He can’t say anything, but he gently strokes your hair as if to tell you that he’s got you, and that everything will be alright.

When you’ve calmed down a little, you cup his face in your hands, and touch your nose to his.

“I’m sorry for being short with you. Thank— thank you, Springtrap.”

His eyes show his smile, and he lifts a metallic finger to wipe the last of your tears.
