for @bluewonderer’s #7days7sentences challenge! today’s prompt was heat ft. zoro and luffy. | day 1

Shortly after their departure from Skypiea, after Chopper’s stopped hanging of off him so much with big, watery eyes that make it difficult to ignore his pleas, he’s finally given the full all clear to get back into his proper workout routine (as if he hasn’t before, since the nights are long and watch is boring).

He watches the horizon, squinting in the sun and standing out in the blistering heat, where Nami will tell him to go take a dunk in the sea and he’ll honestly consider it, and while he’s aware of his presence, all the same he starts at calloused fingertips feathering along the sweaty skin of his lower back. 

Zoro tilts his head to watch him over his shoulder, dumbbell lowering to his side as Luffy traces his way to his stomach and the corresponding exit wound scar where he’s forgone his shirt and haramaki, leaving both in a heap at the base of the mast. His body is a patchwork of scars, but very few were received solely for the sake of someone else.

Out of the corner of his eye, he can spot the residual lightning scars, the same Luffy crowded into the other night in the crow’s nest, tracing along them so that his fingers skimmed across his collarbone and then down the grisly scar on his chest. The gentle chime of his earrings had been the only noise in the otherwise quiet, and Luffy’s breath had gathered in the dip of his collar.

That was the first, Zoro thinks as he watches Luffy’s face twist in consternation, and he’s met with a yelp when he reaches up with his free hand to flick his forehead, but it will not be the last.

a/n omg yes!!! this is so cute! i hope you enjoy this short fluffy drable! also, i’m sorry if this wasn’t what you asked for.

“oh shit,” the green haired male muttered under his breath as he kept on making noises. “you... damn moss head,” the blond muttered but was still deep in slumber. sanji, the l/n’s family guard. though he is quite careless if zoro do said himself. 

‘i’d be a better guard... eh, not like they approved me as one,’ he thought to himself. he finally arrived in front of your door, surprisingly without making another noise despite how he controlled himself from jumping on sanji. 

his fist came in contact to the wooden door. he anxiously waited for you outside, looking around in case the blond suddenly woke up and decide to wander around. you slide the door open, eyes widened at the person standing before you.

“zoro?! what are you doing here?!” you whisper shouted while pulling him inside your room. he shrugged his shoulder, “i was bored,” he said. you sighed, slowly massaging your eyebrows. “well, what if you get caught? it’s a little bit too late. people would get suspicious if you were to get caught for visiting me so late at night,” you said.

“don’t care,” zoro replied. you took in his appearance. he wasn’t wearing his usual attire. he’s only wearing his white kimono and without his swords. ‘huh... that’s a surprise,’

“where’s your swords?” you asked, leading him to sit down at the table you had in the middle of the room. “send it to the swordsmith to polish it,” he answered. “but i thought that you polish your swords by yourself. i mean, you do love them enough not to trust it with other people,”

“i trust them with you,”

you chuckled. “well thank you for trusting me mister moss head,” he let out a little grunt at the nickname. “thought that i told you to drop that nickname,” he scolded, though there wasn’t any hint of anger behind it. you chuckled.

“well? what are you still standing over there for?” you asked, indicating an invitation for him to sit down beside you. he hummed and stride across the room before taking his place, barely two inches far from you.

not long after, his head was already on your lap while you played with his hair. “they told me to stop being friends with you. said that you’re a dangerous man and that you would die one day,” 

“i am ― a dangerous man as they said. after all, i am a swordsman. what kind of swordsman would i be if i am not dangerous?” he said in an annoying tone. it wasn’t directed to you. you know that he was directing it to your parents. “but i would never put you in danger,” he said softly, gazing up at you with a hard look.

“i know you wouldn’t. you love me too much to be putting me in danger,” you rolled your eyes, though the smile on your face gave away your playfulness about it. “you know, i don’t mind you coming here every night. it’ll be like our little secret,” you winked.

he finally let out a light hearted laugh which you had to smack your hand to his mouth in an attempt to keep him quiet. you knew it was futile when you heard a certain blond knocking at your door. “y/n-chan? is there someone in your room?” 

“n-no one!” you quickly replied, ushering zoro towards the open door that leads you to the house’s engawa. “i hope you can forgive me for kicking you out,” you aid with an apologetic look. “not at all,” the green haired replied with a smirk. “y/n-chan?” sanji called out again. “can i come inside please?” 

you could see zoro’s eye twitched at sanji’s request. he never liked the blond to begin with. “wait ― i’m not wearing anything proper right now!” you lied, eyes not leaving zoro. “i’ll see you soon,” you whispered, hugging him tightly before letting him go.
