This crab day thing has gotten so frustrating so fast. The person who suggested it is an anti-abortion anti-feminist right wing christian transphobe. Many of the people spreading additional posts and info are ALSO anti-abortion right wing christian transphobes. Seriously. Start clicking their blogs when you see these posts. Search "abortion" and "feminism" and "trans" and "gender" and "groomer." This is really easy to confirm. But people don't give a shit because "crabs fun." okay.

And its not like people aren't aware of it at this point. Search "crab day" on tumblr and a good chunk of the results are asks saying "hey btw crab day was started by a transphobe/right wing christian." and most of those people have responded with something along the lines of "Um okay but like its a good idea though??? You guys can't even collaborate with conservatives for like a second to achieve a political goal? UGH this is why nothing ever gets done 🙄." or "Um okay but like that post had nothing to do with their political beliefs. so like its fine lol. Crab fun." Or "oh no omg im so sorry thats so gross i deleted the post but im still gonna keep reblogging all the other posts by the conservative transphobic anti abortion right wing christians whos blogs i wont check because we need to save tumblr!!!!"

Let me make this really fucking clear for those who don't get it: it doesn't matter if the post is not about their political beliefs. You and all your mutuals are reblogging them. You are making it easier for them to network and find each other. You are bringing them new followers, a bigger audience, a bigger platform and a bigger pool of people who will spread their oh so relatable non-political posts. Which will bring in more followers. And some of those new followers are going to be young dumbasses who are going to see all their posts about "groomers" and "mutilation" and the evils of porn and the horrors of abortion and how feminism actually harms women and do i need to tell you how that story ends?

You are showing that "crab fun" is way more important to you than the safety of trans tumblr users. You are giving them a bigger platform and a wider net with which to potentially harm trans people. By saying that you're not going to let their political beliefs ruin your fun, you're making it very clear that trans people are less important than your fun. And you're making it VERY fucking clear that you'd RATHER tumblr become a safe and welcoming place for anti-feminist anti-abortion right wing transphobes than give up fun crab.

You are showing that your need to throw money at a corporation is more important to you than trans tumblr users. I get where you are coming from. I do. You want tumblr to keep existing. I want tumblr to keep existing. I also want the other trans people who use this fucking platform to keep existing because frankly, they are the only reason i'm here. and if they aren't safe here and if you will throw us away just to keep tumblr shambling along a little longer then I have no fucking interest in tumblr.

Its not a bail them out once and its all good forever situation. Tumblr is not a small message board run by volunteers who actually use donations to stay afloat. They are not a non-profit. They are not running a pledge drive. Throwing money at a corporation does not a nonprofit make. It makes you a consumer.

Your response to "tumblr making bad changes" is "give them money for making the bad changes to show that we don't like bad changes!! A reverse boycott'll show 'em!!" You sure about that??? I think ship hate in general is pointless and best kept in private where you can vent without bothering anyone but there is something profoundly idiotic about how often I see people who ship The Biggest Ship in a fandom get so so SO upset when any other ship involving their characters exists. i do have criticisms of chainsaw man part 2 tbh as much as i gleefully enjoy it, and one of them is that it feels so heavily built on fire punch that it must not do *nearly* as much if you haven't read fire punch beforehand. it's like half of a conversation and if you're missing the other half i imagine it must sound a bit like nonsense

Controversial take, but no individual is an oppressor simply for existing. Certain groups of people have the privilege and power to oppress, and will have a lot of learning and unlearning to do, but to actually be an oppressor requires action on your part.

So I have been playing Children of Morta and there are a lot of things I really enjoy about. I haven't quite finished the story mode

LET ME REPEAT THAT: I LIKE A LOT OF THINGS ABOUT CHILDREN OF MORTA! I LOVE A LOT OF THE GAME PLAY AND CONCEPTS GOING ON IN THIS GAME! ITS A BEAUTIFUL GAME AS WELL!

However... (do not pass this point if you are not up for dealing with criticism of the game, especially with a feminist lens)

The writing for the women and girls in the game is kind of awful. At least that I have seen so far

Mary is so chronically ill that she had to leave Lucy in the care of Margeret for years, and yet she is still having another kid. In fact, her whole character boils down to the sickly wife and the occasionally nay saying mother. Narratively, there isn't anything else to her, and in game mechanics, there is nothing to do with her. In a game about family, somehow, the mother is sidelined.

Sheila, the only woman mentioned so far at all to be a physical close combat fighter, never makes even an appearance and is, in fact, dead. Her death and the introduction of her son are used as a reason for character growth for Uncle Ben.

Margeret is supposed to be the matriarch to the family, and at least narratively and mechanically, there is a decent amount to actually back this up. Her upgrades from the book of Rhea are an important mechanic to progress. Her cutscenes consistently show her as knowledgeable and an authority in the family. She is still somewhat static, but she is shown to be consistently impacted by the revelations that have been made about the Corruption. However, she still has limited impact to the storyline for the family members compared to Ben, and her role as a magical herbalist and religious scholar are also overdone roles for older women characters.

All the playable girls (unless the final character I haven't unlocked yet goes against this trend. I am betting money that is not the case) are ranged fighters only. Lucy as a mage and Linda as an archer, which are some of the most common roles that women in media are put into. We rarely see, if ever, a woman in media that is allowed to be physically strong on par with her masculine counterparts, especially not in some way where she isn't damseled, killed, violated, or made palatable to male audiences. In fact, even Lucy and Linda both are made chickified by things such as their hobbies being music and art.

Lucy had to go through a whole trial to show she was ready to join the fight, while Kevin simply snuck out to prove himself with very little consequence for terrifying the family. Linda also sneaks out but only to join her father on his investigation at the start of the game and immediately return home.

All of these things separately, I could write off, but with these elements combined, it really comes off like the game has an issue devaluing the women in the Bergson family. It likely wasn't a conscious decision on the part of the writers. That is the insidious thing about patriarchal culture or any other cultural absorption of prejudice, you can unconsciously perpetuate it. However, it has been something grating at me while playing the game.

Tbh this post and the tag comments keeps making me think because; it truly seems like some fellas don't know how to control their own knee jerk reactions to weird people

And its like- I can be an asshole. I get Asshole thoughts all the time. I see an stranger being a bit weird or awkward in a way i dont like and monke brain goes "lmao we should maul this guy". But what is what one must do? Not just follow the natural instinct, but instead pause and reflect "oh but is this fella doing anything harmful? Are they insulting me or messing with me? Am i strongly disagreeing with an opinion of theirs? Or are they just being themselves and having fun in a way i don't vibe with?" Dont just act based on feelings but instead reflect on them and then figure out a way to react accordingly.

If a person is just living their life then the best thing to do is not to antagonize them but rather just let them do whatever, or communicate directly what the issue is and see how both of you can find a way to solve it and coexist peacefully, all while venting the frustration through a diff outlet that won't harm the other.

And like i know its not that simple- a lot of this branch of thought comes from me having nasty social anxiety, and also the fact that i do can slip and be, well, an asshole. I am absolutely no saint. But the point is that your discomfort with another person isn't a permision into attacking them and there are better solutions than that
