Tohru Honda: a Subversion of Shoujo’s Nice Girl Trope
Tumblr media
Fruits Basket absolutely nails subverting your expectations of character tropes in anime.
Momiji is introduced as the cute childish boy but boom we are slapped with the fact that he a mother who hated him so much she had her memories wiped of him. Shigure right off the bat looks like the typical perverted uncle of anime when in reality he is one the most manipulative characters in the series. Ayame is the flamboyant, boisterous one whose bravado hides his regret and desire to repent for his past neglect of his younger brother. Which ultimately brings me to the protagonist of Furuba itself, Tohru Honda.
I'll make it no secret that I have a huge soft spot for Fruits Basket as a series. It was the first manga I read, I watched the 2001 series and I was right on the hype train when I saw it was getting a remake that would follow the manga storyline. But I did my best to be as objective as possible in this essay of sorts saying why I believe Tohru is a great example of subverting the "Nice Girl Protagonist" of Shoujo. Tohru is the protagonist of Fruits Basket and when it comes to those who don't like her, it seems she can be hit or miss due to the assumption that she is perfect.
The general consensus of those who do not like her or find her bland compared to the rest of the cast is that Tohru is a perfect and bland protagonist with no issues of her own. That all she does is wave her healing wand of warm smiles and makes everything better for those around her.
However, that opinion couldn't be more misguided. In reality, Tohru is just as emotionally broken as the Sohmas and they mend her heart just as much as she mends theirs. As such, I hope to show those who find her bland or otherwise boring that there is more substance to Tohru's character than they believe.
At first glance, Tohru does seems like your typical Shoujo protagonist. She's nice, almost to a fault. She would rather talk her way out of a situation instead of throwing hands, she doesn't get mad in situations other typically would, and she has a hard time asking for help. Oh and with a dash of anime originality, she's an orphan. However even as early as episode 1, you can see hints that Tohru is not going to be the usual nice girl protagonist with her desire to work and be as independent as possible. The mangaka does a great job throughout the series showing with hints and broad examples that Tohru is just as complex as the colorful cast around her.
Ironically enough though, when hints of Tohru's trauma are sprinkled throughout the series it is seen as annoying even when the Furuba takes time to give insight into why she does the things she does.
Tumblr media
She mentions her mother constantly in anecdotes of whimsical stories or snippets of wisdom her mother imparted her with.
Compared to the death of parents to other anime protagonists, Tohru's situation is a bit more unique. Tohru's father may have died when she was young but the same cannot be said for her mother, Kyoko, who died fairly recently. When the series begins, Kyoko has only been dead for a few months and it is more than apparent as early as episode 1 that Tohru is desperate to keep any semblance of her mother's existence alive. Kyoko died before Tohru's first year of high school even ended and worse, was told in the middle of class. Tohru has had barely any time to heal from this loss and it is evident in how she talks to her mother's photo.
Yes, in Japanese culture, it may be typical to have photos of departed family members, making a shrine for them and leaving offerings from time to time. But Tohru takes this to a completely different level, showcasing how deep her trauma runs.
When she is digging frantically to take out her mother's photo after the landslide destroyed her tent, she cries "She can't breathe in there. She's in pain." And that's just episode one.
Nobody completely over the death of their parent would speak like this, referring to a photo as a living person. She lost her mother and she didn't even get a chance to say goodbye, even feeling guilt to an extent about the situation. Tohru didn't wake up to tell her mother that she would see her later. There is no way that simply getting up to tell her mother goodbye would have changed the outcome of her fate, but Tohru still feels that way. That it didn't matter if she had tests or work or the next day, the one she should have put first was her mother.
Anyone who has or is currently experiencing the grief of losing a loved one has likely done the same. Wondering if, if the situation was anything other than illness or old age, there was something they could have done. Things they should have said or could have said differently. What more could they have done to help and the feeling is all consuming. Even if it is unprompted, they somehow will manage to insert their lost family or friend into a conversation that didn't include them or may randomly begin talking about them. A lot of the time, these people don't even realize that they're doing it which is shown in season 2 with Tohru when Hiro asks her why she talks about her mother so much.
Tumblr media
She is too positive.
Tohru's positivity is one of the most easily seen aspects of her character. Where others might see the glass half-empty, Tohru sees it as half-full. Her positivity is even noted upon by characters within the show, Saki (Hanajima) mentioning that she doesn't believe she could personally smile like that so soon after the death of a loved one.
Tohru doesn't like thinking about her problems. She doesn't like expressing her sadness. She doesn't want to worry those around her when they likely have their own problems to worry about. Saki predicts that this ability Tohru has to act this way is because she would scold herself if she ever showed a hint of sadness. And Saki was right because we see Tohru later on doing exactly that, crying but forcing herself to try and smile and scolding herself for not keeping it together.
Rather than let Yuki comfort her when she is in tears, she smiles and completely changes the topic even though tears are coming down her face.Tohru tells Kyo that she needs a minute to get herself together because breaking down in tears in front of him wasn't what she planned. She was supposed to smile when she saw him again.
Tohru would rather pretend everything is fine even when she is seconds away from falling apart because toxic positivity is something she struggles with.
No one can be that positive all the time, not even Tohru.
Tumblr media
Tohru has a hard time asking others for help.
Yes, Tohru is kind-hearted by nature but she genuinely does believe that she could burden those she troubles for help. Considering how her maternal side of the family wanted nothing to do with her and her paternal side of the family talks poorly about her, it isn't difficult to see where that frame of thinking came to be. When her mother died, her paternal side of the family didn't argue over who wanted to take Tohru in, they argued over who should take Tohru in and that is an important distinction. Even more so the fact, they had these arguments in front of her. When it was finally settled that she should live with her grandfather and that was uprooted due to upcoming renovations, it makes sense that she would rather be homeless in a tent than bother her friends who don't have the space to provide for an additional person even if that.
In Tohru's mind, it was shown very clearly by her family that she is a burden. She's an extra mouth to feed and an unwanted mouth at that, as her family never holds back in disparaging Kyoko even if Tohru is present.
As such, when Tohru is in a situation where she has no other choice than to accept their help, she believes she should be extremely grateful. They're taking their time to help her when they easily could have done otherwise, so why should she want more? Why should she complain? If she has any desires, she pushes it down because of that belief because she feels awful and that she shouldn't want for more when people are already going out of their way to help an extra mouth to feed. Because of this mentality cultivated by the bulk of her paternal relatives mistreatment, she will seldom voice her wants.
Tumblr media
She never gets angry or upset.
To say Tohru never gets angry or close to physical in her reactions is far from the truth. Tohru gets angry when the issue impacts those that she cares about.
Tohru can tolerate being mistreated but she will always draw the line at the abuse being directed to someone else. When she first meets Akito and she sees Yuki's clear discomfort and fear, she pushes Akito away from him immediately. When she witnesses Momiji being punched by Akito, she immediately steps in and places herself in front of Momiji to physically shield him. When Rin tells her not to meddle with the curse and involve herself, Tohru, without cruelty, shoots back that she will absolutely meddle and involve herself because she refuses to lose the people she cares about to someone who has clearly been abusing them emotionally and physically for years. Tohru's tolerance for mistreatment has a limit, she is just unfortunately not included in that limit. So when we finally see her get angry in a scenario that includes herselfー when Kyo tries to run away because he feels he doesn't deserve her love, it's incredible.
Tumblr media
There is so much more to Tohru than meets the eye. Tohu's reaction to Yuki getting a cold isn't just Tohru overreacting for the sake of being a nice girl, it's because her father died from a cold he brushed off and that cold turned into a fatal illness. For Tohru, colds aren't something that can just be brushed away because what if it turns into something worse.
Tohru would rather wear clothes until they practically fall apart than buy new clothes because she knows that she can't just spend her money haphazardly. But when it came to Valentine's Day and wanting to express her gratitude for those who cared about her, she had no problem dropping an entire check to purchase the ingredients to make enough chocolate for everyone.
She disregards herself and the efforts she puts forward. When she feels she has failed in helping Arisa, she specifically says "everyone around me has always helped me and when it is my turn to do the same, I can't." These aren't problems she overcomes herself by simply "smiling through the pain" as some who discredit her argue. Tohru is repeatedly loved and helped by those around her who care for her and opens herself up to receive that love and help over time. She is taught by her grandfather and Sohmas that is okay for her to be selfish and ask for things.
Her friends teach her that she helps them so much and that in reality they feel like they are never there to help her when she needs it.Her friends get upset that the same amount of money she would spend on them, she wouldn't spend on herself.
She is told that the way she villainized Katsuya after his death because doesn't make her dirty or a bad person because she was a child that was scared to lose her mother. That her fear and desperation to make her mother acknowledge her was understandable. That mimicking her father in her attempt to draw her mother's attention probably helped more than she realized.
Tohru is not just a "Nice Shoujo Girl" Protagonist, she is a girl with trauma who would rather focus on the issues someone else has than look to her own.
Like I said before, this isn't me trying to get Tohrus haters to like her. People are entitled to like and dislike whichever characters they please, but it is a complete disservice to Natsuki Takaya's writing to say Tohru is bland and has no struggles of her own. Tohru has many problems and struggles she has to deal with throughout the series and seeing those issues she overcomes being brushed aside as her being perfect and having no problems is a complete oversight. As such, I just simply wanted to peel back Tohru's layers and showcase that just as characters such as Momiji, Shigure and Ayame are more than the tropes they are introduced as, Tohru is as well.

heather | kyo sohma x gn!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
content: no manga spoilers, angst to fluff with comfort, kyo defending his heart by pushing you away :((, inspired by the song "heather" by conan gray

kyo sohma was the boy you always chased after.
for someone who always came off as hot-headed and impulsive, you were able to see the soft, vulnerable side within. kyo was an orange, someone you had to peel apart to get what was good, to get what was inside.
a boy who was wronged since he was born for something he never did. they say he’s sinned by simply existing, yet how could the sweet boy that took care of you be a sinner?
you were 5 years old when you met him. he was 6 at the time, and his mother had recently passed away. it was a couple of months later that you met him. you were at kazuma sohma’s dojo when the older man introduced you two to each other.
“kyo, met y/n. y/n, meet kyo. y/n is a year younger, so make sure you take care of them, kyo.”
at first, he didn’t like you. you could tell by his childish glares and the way he crossed his arms every time you came over. it wasn’t until you confronted kazuma that you learned the reason why.
“he’s just scared,” he reassured you, his hand on your back. “he thinks that you’ll eventually take me away from him. and don’t tell him this, but i think he’s scared to befriend you because he thinks you’ll leave. will you, y/n?”
you turned your head to the man, “no… mom left me like his did, so i understand him. i want him to know i won’t leave. how do i do it, kazuma-san?”
that started the time where you never left his side.
as much as you could, you’d always go to kyo first. when people said mean things to him for being the cat, you defended him. when he was alone at the dojo, you tried your best to come over and keep him company.
eventually, kyo warmed up to you.
“y/n is a year younger, so make sure you take care of them, kyo.”
he remembered those words from his master, and he followed them through. when you came over to keep him company, he always made sure to take care of you by making you snacks. and when people started talking about you because you would defend him, he’d yell at them.
“they have nothing to do with this! if you’re going to talk bad about someone, then let it be me!”
you never did anything wrong, so let the world be damned if they thought otherwise.
as the two of you grew up, he continued to think that. however, you didn’t know that. during an encounter after he had run away from seeing a woman he once knew in an accident, he yelled at you.
“GO AWAY!”
kyo was sitting alone in a dark room before you bothered to go inside. your hand, gentle, touched his shoulder. you were going to ask him what happened before screamed at you.
“k-kyo,” you stuttered in shock.
“you never know when to quit,” his body shook. he then clenched his fists, “just leave me alone! you’re always coming back to annoy me… leave…! JUST LEAVE! I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOUR FACE AGAIN!”
he always coped by running away, which is what he did at that moment. he was distancing himself from you. if you were in that woman’s position and said what she did… he’d lose a reason to live. so if he was ever going to lose you, he didn’t want to care. he wanted you far away from him before he fell apart.
you didn’t get to see him until almost a full year passed. since you were a year younger than him, you were also a grade below. you weren’t supposed to, but the head of the family had sent you to go to kaibara, the same school that kyo and other members of the zodiac go to.
things didn’t go well the first time you two saw each other. well, you thought of it that way. you found him in a certain position at the wrong time. and with no explanation, it hurt you more than you thought.
you stood, frozen, at the scene in front of you. it was the first day of being in high school, the same school as him, and you were attempting to find your way around.
it was easy, really. the private school organized classes by their grades or department. you were coming back from the restroom when you saw kyo, his fist resting on the wall behind a brown-haired girl.
the boys the cat zodiac was trying to intimidate had run away, almost bumping into you. as kyo’s eyes followed them, they landed on you. the moment he made eye contact with you, his eyes widened.
no one had told him that you were also enrolling in the school. and after your last confrontation, he never got to talk to you again.
“kyo?” the brunette called, looking between both him and you.
unsure of what to make of everything, you looked down to the ground for a brief moment. your grey hair swept over your face before you left. just like kyo would, you ran away. you didn’t get to hear him call out your name as you did.
the next time you saw him, still the same day, the brown-haired girl was there too. you learned that she was the tohru honda your fellow zodiac had been talking about. besides them, there was yuki, momiji, hatsuharu, and tohru's best friends, uotani and hanajima.
they asked for you to join them in playing, but you turned them down. as you politely bowed down at them in apology, your hands tightly gripped the straps of your bag. you just couldn't bear to stick around kyo.
you knew he didn't want you around, he told you himself. if he was staying, then you thought it was better for you to go.
and as if the world was trying to torment you, you kept on seeing him. as much as you tried to avoid him, gatherings kept on being set up, and you'd often get dragged into it.
one thing you noticed after a while is that kyo didn't make an effort to talk to you. he'd act like he normally did for the most part, but he was a twinge softer than he was before.
what hurt the most is when you saw him smile. oh, that beautiful smile of his. your heart cracked when you recalled that it wasn't for you. he was talking to tohru when he grinned, slightly turning his head away.
again and again, you continued to see tohru make everyone smile and laugh. she had only been sweet to you, yet you couldn't help the feeling of burning jealousy in your heart. kyo pushed you away, yet he let her in. jealousy was ugly, and you hated yourself for feeling it.
with that, you let the distance between you and kyo grow further. despite the storm of feelings in your heart, you pretended like it was all okay. it only took so long for your heart to burst.
your day had already started off roughly after you saw akito in the morning. and to make matters worse, you ended up at shigure's house after school. momiji dragged you over, and now you sat with the older man while kyo helped tohru in the kitchen.
after getting a glimpse, you were sure they were cooking your favorite food. watching kyo cook it with tohru left a sour flavor on your tongue.
"you know," shigure spoke teasingly, "envy doesn't suit you so well."
you peeled your eyes away from the two in the kitchen, "what are you talking about?
he smirked, "oh, you know what i'm talking about. kyo pushed you away, and now you feel like our sweet, little tohru has taken your place. it's written all over your eyes."
"shigure-"
"you wish you were in her spot right now. it seems like kyo has made his choice, and you weren't the answer. it both angers and saddens you, doesn't it?"
“you never know when to quit. just leave me alone! you’re always coming back to annoy me… leave…! JUST LEAVE! I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOUR FACE AGAIN!”
everyone downstairs had jumped when you suddenly slammed your hands on the table. kyo and tohru turned to where you and shigure sat, but you were already running out of the house.
the dog zodiac closed his fan, "oh my, seems like they took that to heart."
"what the hell did you do!?" kyo yelled at shigure.
the man cheekily looked at him, "oh kyo, you seem to care a lot."
"of course i-!" the orange-haired boy stopped mid sentence.
he let out a stressed sigh before he sprinted in the direction you ran off to. things weren't supposed to be like this. today was the day. he's said things, hurtful and untrue, and he wanted to fix it. yet there he was, spending over half an hour searching for you.
it was when he heard a familiar howl that he knew he had found you.
kyo moved towards where it came from to find you, adjusting your shirt. a branch snapped beneath his feet, and you whipped towards him at the sound. the tears that ran down your cheeks glistened underneath the setting sun.
you would've ran away, but kyo was faster. he grabbed your wrist and held you back, catching his breath. he didn't budge as you tried to free yourself. you wiped away your tears before you decided the effort to escape was fruitless.
"why?" you asked. "why are you here?"
"why'd you run away?"
"i asked first, kyo."
"and my question is more important."
with his words, you finally gained the courage to look him in the eye. when you did, kyo could see the clear pain you held. your eyes used to shine when you hung out with him, but now you looked at him with heartache.
“more important?” you repeated. “don’t act like you actually care now. you’re the one that told me that i annoy you. if i did, why would you come to find me?”
“i didn’t mean it, (y/n).”
“is that so?”
kyo gently let go of your wrist, “it wasn’t supposed to be like this… that day, i- i pushed you as far as i could. i’m sorry, i regret it.”
you would’ve made a comeback, but kyo’s sincere eyes captured your attention. he clenched his fist at his side, “all i do is hurt people, and i didn’t want to hurt you. so… i did the first thing i usually do. i pushed you away..”
“and tohru? what about her?”
he looked at you confused, “huh? what does she have to do with this?”
you clenched your fists lightly, knowing that she had everything to do with this. you frowned, “she’s a pretty girl, you know. she’s also been so kind to me too, just like everyone else was saying. i can see why they all cling on to her, why you do the same. she makes you happy, huh…” the horrible feeling of jealousy bubbled inside of your stomach again.
“you think i like her, don’t you?”
it went silent.
of course you did, you thought. tohru was such a sweetheart, so it was no wonder that kyo seemed to be that comfortable around her.
when you couldn’t bring yourself to answer, kyo had sighed. he brought his hand to his face, covering it from you. it was when you were already looking away that he took a peak at you from between his fingers.
you had curled up into a ball on the ground, staring at his shoes. you glanced up at him when he began to take steps towards you. he knelt down to your height and hand your hand. you parted your lips at the action.
“you’re wrong, (y/n). tohru… i only care for her in the way a friend does. her mom, she- i knew her. the one i care about in that way is you. any feelings you think i have for her, i have for you.”
the pace that your heart began to beat at had increased, and the jealousy you felt in your stomach began to dissipate. for years, you thought anything you felt was one-sided. but as he cupped your cheeks, you realized you were wrong. you teared up again, pressing your forehead against his.
“kyo,” you murmured, heart racing, “please say it. i need to hear it from your-“
“i love you, (y/n). i love you and only you,” his thumb brushed over your lip. “after all these years, you’re the only one that’s made me feel like this… like i’m running in circles. it’s always you. now quit it with the tears, you crybaby.”
you let out a laugh, forehead still pressed against his. the cat wiped your tears away from your cheeks gently, even as new ones fell. he pulled your body in close, providing you comfort through a hug.
“so we’re okay now?” you shyly asked.
kyo looked away, “if that’s alright with you… i’m sorry for acting like how i did, truly. i want to stay. i want to stay with you for as long as i can. please, (y/n), let me be selfish.”
“selfish? oh, you’re anything but that,” you pulled away from his hug. a smile graced your face, “but if you see it that way, then i want to be selfish with you. i thought that you wouldn’t ever choose me, but you proved me wrong. i want you, kyo. all of you and what you have to offer. i love you, so please take care of me.”
all he could do is stare at your precious face. with his right hand on your cheek, he had done what he always dreamed of doing. kyo moved his head closer to yours and pressed his lips onto yours. you immediately closed your eyes, basking in the feeling of his slightly-chapped lips.
“even if you stop feeling the same,” he told you, “i’ll take care of you until the end of my days.”

"Hatori! I fucked up!" Hatori sighed as he heard Y/n scamper into his office.
"What happened this time, Y/n?" Hatori asked the young woman. "And I thought you were with Shigure today?" Hatori raised an eyebrow.
Y/n whined. "I was, I was. But like I said I fucked up and said something stupid and Shigure teased me and took it too far." She said.
"And what on earth did you say?" Hatori asked.
Y/n flinched at his question. "You don't wanna know trust me, you'll get mad at Shigure and then me." You muttered.
"I won't. Just... just tell me, y/n." Hatori said softly.
"Fine, promise you won't get mad? Y/n asked for clarification from Hatori.
Hatori nodded at as she took a deep breath as said. "I jokingly asked Shigure if we could have a baby and teased me saying "oh, do you want to do it right now?" like the smug bastard he is. I know he was joking but he... took it to far..." Y/n trailed as she noticed the tick mark on Hatori's forehead.
"I told you'd get mad." You mumbled out.
"I can't believe I have to share a woman with him." Hatori grumbled out.
"You guys agreed to that! You can't back out now, I agreed too." You said.
"Sometimes I regret I did..." He trailed.
You frowned, sulking a bit. Hatori noticed this looking your way. He sighed getting up from his office chair.
Hatori grabbed your chin between his fingers and tilted your face up to look at him.
"Listen, Y/n, very carefully," He started as you nodded. "I love you and I don't regret ever meeting you but agreeing to share you with Shigure is something I'd never thought I'd do." He said.
You chuckled. "That's because you love me! And I love you too, Tori!" You exclaimed.
Hatori kissed you and backed you up to the wall, pinning you there.
"Let's get back at him," Hatori whispered lowly in your ear once he pulled away from the kiss. "Let's have a baby." His voice was hot and husky as he whispered to you.
Your face was turning fifty shades of crimson until Hatori looked back at you with satisfied smirk on his face.
"Okay." You said softly pulling him into a heated kiss.

Kinktober Day 6 - Dubcon/Chastity/First Kiss
For Kinktober day 6!
Shigure Sohma x Female Reader
Content warnings: female reader, dubcon, chastity, sex shaming, virginity, first kiss, grooming, fingering, unprotected, body shots, upskirt, shame/embarrassment
18+ MINORS DNI
More under the cut!
A proper lady is meant to keep her legs closed; you should be able to hold a skittle between your knees. You don’t remember where you heard that phrase before or if maybe you read it somewhere, but it’s the only thing your mind can settle on as your best friend’s dad grips your thighs and pulls as them gently, suggestively as his eyes study your face for a reaction.
This, of course, was not the goal of your afternoon. You had hiked all the way up the hill to the remote house of your best friend to borrow the notes you had missed in class the other day. With graduation looming in just a few weeks, now was not the time to fall behind. Unfortunately, the flu never waits, and you were down for the count. Fortunately, on the other hand, your friend was gracious enough to let you borrow his notes.
However, after you huffed and puffed up all the stairs to his house, you knocked on the door and his dad, not your friend, answered it with an air of surprise. Now, Shigure Sohma wasn’t exactly Yuki’s father - maybe uncle was a more appropriate term, you weren’t really sure - but you just never asked for more details on his family situation. You knew Shigure just as you knew all of your other friends’ parents; it was practically the same.
When he saw you, his face changed from pleased surprise to welcoming smile as he leaned against his front door, his eyes darting down your body and back up again before he thought you would notice.
You exchanged pleasantries and banalities and quick glances at each other and before you knew it, he was ushering you inside because “it was really no trouble at all” and of course, “Yuki would be home soon” he was sure of it and what luck you must have because he “just made too much tea and doesn’t want it to go to waste.” You hated having to entertain adults - it always felt so deeply impersonal, like a performance for their sake - but you just couldn’t say no, so you soon found yourself kneeling at their table with a cup of tea in your hand.

Kyo Sohma X Reader: Protective [fruits basket]
Tumblr media
You love your school friends, but one has always been a little more protective than the others.
Even though I’ve been at school since the beginning of the academic year, I’m still not adjusted well with the students. Some students still treat me with disrespect and no remorse. I’m happy to at least have supportive friends like Tohru, her friends, and the Sohma’s; especially Kyo.
For whatever reason, he’s been very protective of me as of late — as weird as it is to put it that way. Truth be told, it does get on my nerves sometimes. His support is appreciated and all, but I can also take care of myself. Though none of this is to say I want him to change. I wouldn’t change my friends at all.
It’s currently the morning of the school day. I’m putting away my shoes in my locker when Kyo, Tohru, and Yuki walk up to meet me. Yuki gives me a wave, partnered  with a "Good Morning" and Tohru says a quick hello in passing. The two of them head to class, though Kyo hangs behind with me.
"So, Kyo, How's your morning been so far?" I ask him. He scratches the back of his head.
"Annoying. Yucky Yuki's already ticked me off," he says.
"Oh, is that a new record? I’m sure he’s done worse sooner," I say sarcastically.
"Haha," he feigns an unenthusiastic laugh. "What about you? No one's tried to mess with you yet, have they?"
"Kyo, I can handle myself. Besides, no one gets violent. Just a couple of crude words,"
"I want to make sure you're safe,"
"I know, Kyo. Thanks,"I say, resting my hand against his shoulder. "C'mon. Let's get to class,”
The two of us start our trek to class. I noticed Kyo trying to hold my things for me, and while I appreciate the gesture, I tell him I can take care of things myself. We arrive at the room well before homeroom starts and claim seats with Tohru, Uo, Hana, and Yuki. Of course when the teacher actually gets here we’ll have to move to our assigned seats for the whole day, but for now some light chit-chat should be fine.
“Hey, you guys. Where's Yuki?” I ask, noticing his absence.
“He had some prince business to attend to. He’ll show up later,” Uo explains.
“I hope he’s doing alright,” Tohru says.
“Me too. He didn’t seem to want the student council position to begin with, much less to be the president. I hope he knows if he’s struggling he can come to us. That goes for all of you, as well,” I say.
“He’ll be fine. He was practically born for the role,” Kyo says, rolling his eyes. This, of course, earns him a quick jab to the ribs, courtesy of myself. Our chatting continues as the class waits for things to begin. For some reason, I thought it would be a great idea to drink a huge can of an unhealthy, sugar-filled beverage first thing in the morning, and I start to regret it as I feel a strong need to pee.
“So close to class? Excuse me guys, I’m going to use the restroom quickly,”
*
Yuki walks into the room just as class is about to begin, but sees you are nowhere in sight.
“Good morning everyone. Where’s Y/n? Didn’t she come to class?” Yuki asks before finding his seat.
“Now that you say that, it has been a while since she went to use the bathroom,” Hana notes. “Do you think she’s alright?”
“Orange top! Go check on Y/n!” Uo demands.
“Hah?? Don’t you tell me what to do!”
“It’s okay, I’ll do it,” Tohru suggests, but Kyo rises from his seat before she can.
“Sit down. I was going to check on her anyway,” Kyo says. As he goes to leave the room, the teacher stops him.
“Haven’t we been over this? Quit trying to skip my class,”
“I’m not trying to skip nothin’! I’m going to check on Y/n. She went to the bathroom a while ago and she’s not back yet. I’m doing your job here,”
“Just go. Don’t cause trouble,” the teacher excuses him and Kyo heads off.
*
The bell rings and I know I’m late for class. But it’s not completely my fault. Two students, a boy and a girl, had stopped me on my way back from the restroom. I don’t know their names, but they’ve stopped me before. They’re not really my biggest fans. I stand there against the wall as they ask and say to me things no one should ask or say, cruel words I would rather abstain from repeating. But it doesn’t really affect me. I stand there with no reaction as they berate me. Turn the other cheek, you know?
“Hey!” The interjecting voice is immediately recognizable to me. Kyo. His eyes are narrow as he walks up to the two students and I. “How about you shut your mouths? The both of you,” Kyo offers.
“Kyo, it’s alright, I got it,”
“No, I think these idiots need to learn who they’re talking to,”
“Kyo I said I got it alright? Getting aggressive isn’t going to change their perspective so let’s just head back,” you say. He grabs my hand, passing the two students a dirty look as he drags us away from the scene and back to class.
*
The bell rings, concluding the school day and letting the students out. To be truthful, I’ve been avoiding Kyo a bit. I’m not mad, just a bit annoyed. It’s great having such a considerate friend, no one has ever looked out for me the way he does, but when he steps in for me it looks like I can’t handle myself. I open my shoe locker, pulling out my things to leave. When I close the locker door, Kyo is leaning against the ones next to it, looking down at the floor.
“I’m sorry,” he says. I cross my arms and lean against the lockers myself.
“About what?”
“I know you don’t like it when I get really protective of you,”
“Yeah, what were you even doing out there?”
“You hadn’t come back yet and we were starting to get worried. I was starting to get worried,”
“You’re a good friend for staying by me, and I appreciate what you do for me, wanting me safe and happy, but I can fight my own battles. You can stick up for me, but you don’t need to act responsible for me,”
“I know. I’m trying to not get annoyed by them, it’s just…” Kyo trails off, debating his next words, “I don't like when people make fun of the person I like"
“What?”
“Gosh, ya need me to spell it out for ya?” I stare at him for a moment before realizing.
"You… like me? More than a friend?”
"Well duh. Why wouldn’t I?” I shrug.
“I don’t know. It’s not like you flirt with me. I don’t remember you telling me or asking me out,”
“You seriously never noticed?”
“Didn’t have a clue,”
“Well, then you must be really dumb because I made it really obvious,”
“Hey!” I say, nudging his arm. “I guess like you too… dumb dumb,”
Kyo smiles. He stands up straight, extending his hand to me. “Want me to walk you home?”
“Sure,” I say after rolling my eyes. I take his hand and we walk off the premises together. I guess I should pay more attention to things.

heart-thumping, car-bumping.
Tumblr media
Words: 1505 Content and warnings: sohma hatori x fem!reader smut, hatori picks you up from work and you can’t stop staring at him in the car, he pulls over in an abandoned parking lot and you guys fuck. hatori calls you baby. short and sweet. safe sex w condom
Hatori chuckled at your reaction when he knocked on your office door. He was beautiful, really. His shirt slightly unbuttoned at the top to expose his collarbones and part of this tanned chest. Was everyone else here staring at him too? You couldn’t help but wonder.
“Hi. I’m here to take you home.” He stated it simply. It gave you no other choice, you packed up your things and quietly said goodbye to your coworkers.
The man is a sweetheart, downright gorgeous. He opened the car door for you to step in as if he was your personal chauffeur. You can’t stop staring at him as he’s driving, as he’s carefully keeping his eyes on the road.
“What is it?” he asked quietly, voice deep and soft, as he noticed your gaze. He reminded you of an ocean, maybe it was his blue eyes, or the way you felt swept away when he spoke.
“You’re-,” you swallowed. You didn’t know how to say it, choosing to run your fingertips across his neck instead, draping them into his undercut.
He glanced at you quickly at the touch. “Don’t distract me while I’m driving.”
“You should pull over at the next car park.”
He arched his eyebrow at this, but followed your instructions nonetheless. He was always curious about you, after all. What you were up to, what you’re planning. He wished he could live in your brain sometimes, so that he would know what ran through your mind.
He pulled over and parked the car in a mostly abandoned car park, not a soul in sight, then turned to look at you expectantly.
You reached between his legs as if foreshadowing, to the bottom of the chair, pushing it back to give you space. Then you started unbuckling his belt with haste, hands moving across to take his cock out. His eyes widened at the sight of you so desperate, cock already hardening.
“Y-you couldn’t wait until we got home?” It was his turn to gulp at the way you were acting, as you put him in your mouth, both of you moaning.
That was his answer, he presumed anyways, his hands moving to your hair. When you’re like this, he doesn’t know how to resist. His windows are very tinted, but it’s still risky. Someone could hear you, someone could look in. He threw his head back and sighed as your tongue grazed again the head of his cock, along the underside, mouth gaping and fringe in his eyes. He was beautiful, and clean, the scent of his masculine cologne filling your senses. You can’t stop thinking about it as you smile and look at him.
“Baby, ugh, fuck.” Hatori can’t take this. He doesn’t know how he handles you in the first place. You could see him moving his long arms in your periphery, but you’re too focused on bobbing up and down his cock, making him moan deliciously above you, that you don’t realize what’s happening as he flitted your skirt up and reached between your legs, fingers swiping over your core.
You moaned around his cock at the sudden sensation, momentarily hesitating and hovering on his cock.
“Isn’t so great being distracted, now is it?” he chuckled, continuing his ministrations. He rubbed his fingers over the wet spot forming on your underwear, still bewildered at how wet you get from just looking at and touching him. He raked his nails lightly over your core, causing shivers as you tried to focus on sucking him off. You purposefully concentrated on the head, tracing your tongue up the veins and ridges. He grunted as he teased you in return, thumbing your clit over your underwear, making you whine. You moved as far as you can down his cock, nose brushing over his pubic hair, and swallowed, and that’s when he pulled you off him.
“Fuck. Get in the backseat, right now.” It’s a demand, not a question, and the sound of your usually put-together man swearing did something to you, slick dripping down your core. You kicked off your shoes before climbing into the back.
Hatori could feel himself starting to sweat as he unbuttoned his shirt, left his shoes in the front as well and followed you, snatched a condom from his wallet on the way. He caged you in his arms when he leaned against the backseat, long legs stepping over, belt clinking as he moved. He grabbed your thighs the moment he sat down, moving you over his lap.
You slid your hands over his shirt and chest, then moved them under, feeling the muscles under your palms. You wanted him so bad, your clothed core grinding over his cock as you kissed.
He can’t believe you made him like this, made him want to fuck you in the car like a goddamned teenager. He moved his hands under your skirt, groping your butt, your panties sliding up with his hands, causing an intoxicating friction on your core that made you more desperate, not enough to get you off. You mewled into his mouth, his hot breath ghosting over your lips, tongue tracing yours. It’s not enough, it’s not enough. His pants are barely down his legs as he gripped your waist away from him, forcing you to still.
You whined at him, and he hushed you softly, ran a hand down your side soothingly. He opened the condom and slid it onto his dick slowly as you watched, mouthwatering.
“It’s okay, baby. C’mere,” he whispered, cooing at you to come back to him. He swiped your panties from the side to expose you, and you lowered yourself onto him, moaning synced at the sensation.
“Fuck, you feel so good, baby,” he grunted into your ear, and you marbled something incoherent and high-pitched in response. Your knees rested on either side of him as you raised yourself up and down his cock, hot pants filled the air, your skirt tickled the tops of his thighs each time you lowered yourself.
It was desperate, intense. His lips met your neck and bit down, leaving hickeys down the side that you didn’t know how you’d cover up later. He used his strong arms to help you, lifting you up and down. You were so wet, he could hear the squelch as you moved. He glanced at where you were connected to see the white ring forming at the base of his cock, making his eyes darken as he gripped your ass and thighs harder. He almost growled at the sight.
“Are you this desperate for my cock?” his voice was a snarl, deep and dark, and all you could do was gasp into his ear, unable to reply. It was only when he was so in the moment that he spoke such savagery, his hair unkept as he stared at you, cheeks flushed with arousal.
“Mm, Hatori, oh,” was all you could say, but he loved it. Loved that only moans and his name were on your mind as he forced you up and down his cock faster. Your hands gripped his shoulders as you got closer to your peak, thighs shaking as they tensed.
“You gonna come for me? Are you gonna, oh, you’re so tight, baby. You’re getting tighter, fuck.”
Your breaths came deeper, and your heartbeat quickened. He slid his arm under you as he freed one of his hands, licking the pad of his thumb and bringing it to your clit. You almost shrieked at the touch, your head resting in the crook of his shoulder, pressing your face into his neck to muffle your screams.
“That’s it, baby. Come for me.” He groaned, and as if on command you tightened around him, hitting your peak. The satisfaction of release filled your mind, chanting his name, “Hatori, Hatori,” like a prayer as your mind blanked. He didn’t stop his circles on your clit once, riding out your high until he couldn’t handle it anymore, cumming inside of you with a low grumble. He was beautiful as he came, pretty eyes shut and eyelashes blinking over his blush-filled cheeks, the vibrations in his chest humming against yours.
You both stayed there for a while as he softened inside of you, post-orgasm glow. Then, you slid off him and see your slick heavily coating the condom as he removes it from himself, tying it and placing it gently on the seat to throw away later. He wrapped both hands around your face and brought you in for a kiss. He kissed you deep and long, the kind of kiss that makes you believed the world stopped. You placed your hands on his chest and could feel his heart still beating rapidly.
“Are you satisfied now, baby?” he asked as he parted his lips from yours, still breathless as his pants were faint over your lips.
You nodded at him, and he smiled back at you. A real, genuine smile. You don’t think you’d ever get enough of seeing those from him.

<=========>
The loud sound of thunder made Y/n jump as she looked out the window, seeing lightning flash across the sky. She shivered a bit, gripping the book that she had in her hands a bit tighter. Y/n was left alone at her home, her parents were currently on a business trip and they trusted everything to her, which she didn't mind. She was old enough to do things on her own.
Getting up from her spot on the couch, she walked over to the window. She pulled back the curtains and peered out the window watch the rain pour from the sky. Y/n sighed a bit.
"It sure is coming down out there..." She muttered to herself, still looking out the window peering up at the dark clouds the curtained the sky.
Y/n hoped that it didn't get too bad to the point where her house would lose power. She grumbled knowing that she couldn't fix those sort of things without her father's help. He's handy like that.
There was a knock at her front door that startled Y/n out of her thoughts and she whipped her head towards the door. She was expecting anyone, especially not at this hour, in this whether.
Cocking an eyebrow, she asked herself. "Who the hell could that be?" Putting her book off to the side on the table, moving away from window in the living room and walked over towards the door.
Opening it, Y/n answered the door with her eyes closed with a "yes" before opening them to see who has come to her house. Her eyes widened seeing her classmate and a close friend, Hatsuharu Soma.
She and Haru have been friends since they were young which was odd considering the fact that she and her family were outsiders, but Y/n's mother used to work as maid at the Soma Estate before she got a new job and Haru and Y/n met then and their friendship carried over, though Haru would always sneak away from the Estate to see her until now since they go to the same high school.
Dripping wet from the rain, Haru looked up at her through his hair that hung in his face. His brown eyes stared into her E/c ones. She couldn't read what emotion he was showing, it was always hard for Y/n though they've known each other for a long time but she still can never truly know.
"Haru..." She finally spoke and the male perked up to his name. "What are you doing here?" Y/n asked him. It was seriously out of the blue and in this whether no less.
"I just... I just needed to see you." He said in a low tone.
Y/n frowned at this but then raised an eyebrow at the strange boy. "You needed to see me?" She asked him, confused at his action.
"Yeah." Haru replied back, very monotone but that's how he's always been.
"But, you see me every day at school, moron." Y/n said.
"It's not enough." Haru said back.
Y/n sighed out in frustration, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Alright then. Get in here before you drown out there. I'll get you a towel." She said, letting a rain soaked Haru in.
"Thanks, Y/n." He said with a small smile.
"Whatever," Y/n said. "Sit on the floor please I don't want my parents' furniture getting wet." Y/n left to the bathroom to fetch a clean towel for Haru.
*small time skip*
Haru sat on the floor, his back resting on the couch as Y/n dried his hair with a white hand towel. Y/n had a soft glare on her face as looked at the white haired boy. She cared for Haru but he's honestly was kinda hopeless as well as he is careless.
"You're tense," Haru's low voice and him grabbing her arm, snapped Y/n out of her thoughts as she lost her glare and it was replaced with a surprised look in her eyes. "Is something wrong?" He asked her looking up at her with worried look in his eyes.
"No. I'm not tense at all." Y/n said, her hands leaving the towel on Haru's head.
"You're lying." Haru said.
"How do you know that I'm lying?" Y/n asked the boy.
Haru frowned. "We've known each other for years now, Y/n and I know when you're lying. I thought we could tell each other anything." Haru said.
She flushed from embarrassment. He's right, she really can't lie to Haru, Haru might be a bit blunt and dense at times but that doesn't mean he's not observant. Y/n looked off to the side. She went into her thoughts as the two sat in collective silence until Haru spoke.
"Y/n," He called her name, making her turn her head to look at him. His saddened expression made Y/n's eyes widened a bit. "Do you not want to be around me anymore?" He asked.
Y/n turned to face him fully and shook her head frantically. "No, No, that's not it all, Haru! It's just... my family and I are so very different from you and yours. I mean we are from the outside, we're outsiders. In all honesty, I wonder why you're still friends with me." Y/n confessed.
Y/n felt arms wrapped around her small frame for a split second until a puff of colored smoke appeared around her and a black and white cow was in Haru's place with its head on her lap. She was shocked and honestly horrified. What just happened?!
"Why are you worried about what my family or anyone else thinks?" Haru's voice came from the cow.
'What, the cow is Haru?! What is going on? What is he not telling me?' Y/n thought.
"I-I don't know... I just didn't know if you're friends for real or this is all fake." Y/n replied.
"It's not true at all. I'm friends you because I want to be and I want to be more than just friends, Y/n." Haru said.
"Uh?" She asked not sure what he was getting at.
Cow Haru looked up at her. "I've fallen for you, Y/n. And I can't keep it a secret anymore."
